Le Jules Verne

Ratings and reviews, food and ambience, location and contact, michelin guide's point of view.

This is a dining experience to remember. With its own private entrance at the base of the Eiffel Tower, the Jules Verne Restaurant is on level 2. The food and wine were excellent, the service was excellent, but the views and the atmosphere were exceptional.... The price was not inexpensive, but this is a unique dining experience that you won't find anywhere else in the world; so if fine dining is something you enjoy then you must visit Le Jules Verne if ever you're in Paris. More

Dear guest, The reading of this comment has touched our teams and Frédéric Anton, to whom we share all the reviews we receive. We are absolutely delighted to have contributed to the success of your evening. It is essential for us to provide our customers... More

This was a lunch time meal with my wife for her 50th birthday. An absolutely fabulous experience . Exceptional view, brilliant service and exceptional food. We had a fabulous time. It’s a smart, relaxed formal atmosphere. 100 metres above the Paris roof tops, eating perfectly... cooked fantastic food. Is it expensive ? I don’t think so for the whole experience you are getting. I ate at Marcus at the Berkeley 2 days before which whilst a very pleasant experience cost significantly more and couldn’t match the food or service on offer here. At some point in the future we will definitely comeback to enjoy this fabulous place again. I cannot recommend it’s highly enough. More

We visited this restaurant for our anniversary and it certainly was a night to remember.Everything went perfectly, from the moment we booked our reservation online until catching a taxi from the tower at the end of the evening. The service is faultless. We entered through... the reception at the foot of the tower and were whisked away to the top as soon as they checked us in at reception. We were met at the restaurat and escorted to our table which had a stunning view of the Trocardero. This is a fine dining restaurant but is ultra modern. If you expect white table cloths and old world ambience, you wont find it here. Instead it is immaculately clean, beautifully presented and has faultless service. The 7 course menu with matching wine is excellent. The presentation of the food is a work of art and the wine waiter explained each wine that accompanied each dish. The individual dishes were excellent although the chicken dish was not as outstanding as the other dishes. That one dish was good but not great. This is easily one of the best dining experiences in Paris. The views are amazing and coupled with the food and overall experience, this is a must do for those who like fine dining and the price associated with it. Then there is the lights of Paris at night from the tower. Unforgettable. More

We reserved what we thought was a table for lunch at the restaurant, only to find upon arrival that we had in fact reserved a place on the wait list and the restaurant was full. The hostess smiled when she found our name on the... wait list and said “this happens all the time!” So perhaps the restaurant should change their online booking confirmations to explain that when it states “confirmed reservation for a specific date and time” in the header it is a wait list confirmation not an actual booking. We actually ended up having an amazing lunch at a restaurant near the Eiffel Tower, and we got a spectacular city view from the top of Montmartre for free! More

Dear Guest, We sincerely regret that you have not had an experience that meets your expectations. We have taken into consideration your remarks with the greatest attention because we make it a point of honor to offer an unforgettable experience to our customers. Best regards,... More

After being left outside in the freezing cold until the exact opening times, and then having to wait for ages in a hall to wait for the elevator we arrived in the restaurant. All the wait staff were delightful and friendly and kind, but the... head waiter (maitre d) was atrociously rude, after we saw a menu with “ a la carte” written on it given to a Neighboring table (which later we find was accidentally given the lunch a la carte menu) and so when seeing the set dinner menu which we didn’t like the look of, kindly requested to see the a la carte menu, the maidre d’ was so rude and said in a condescending way that they have never had a a la carte menu, we said kindly we had seen it (we are 3 cute girls from New Zealand - not rude at all ever) and he treated us so badly then tried to shame us in front of the restaurant by taking the now replaced set menu from another table to show us we were wrong. He laughed at us in a rude pompous way. so we quietly stood up and left. We were willing to pay over $900 New Zealand dollars for this meal and to be treated so badly was disgusting. Not one person asked us what was wrong. So we ate elsewhere which delightful service. Do NOT recommend this place at all. Treat your patrons well next time. More

Le Jules Verne restaurant is a very special place to dine atop the Eiffel Tower. Fine dining, more waiters than guests and a delightful experience. No cues. You are met by staff who whisk you to a private reception entry and then a private lift... up to the restaurant. Very elegant. Very good service and quite spectacular food presentation. We loved the entire experience......except for the bill. Bring your money. It isn’t cheap. Then again. It is something to experience and remember. Recommended. More

Dear Sir, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We are very glad to read that you enjoyed your moment at Le Jules Verne. Regards, Le Jules Verne Restaurant Manager

You do this for the experience. The food was great especially the scallop and venison plates i found then amazing. The servings were small as expected. Having had many degestation experiences previously i was expecting some palate cleansers between courses that didnt come. Also was... shocked that the meal wasnt paired with wines that complimented the dish, we have always had this previously and were shocked when the wine list came out. Having those 2 little criticisms the meal is very costly when you consider there is no wines with it as we were expecting. They also gave us a special little chocolate as it was our anniversary dinner which was a nice touch and appreciated. More

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We are so glad to read that you enjoyed your moment at Le Jules Verne. Regards, Le Jules Verne Restaurant Manager

Our last visit was 2017 for lunch, and all was excellent. This time for dinner. Lovely atmosphere. Hoards of staff. We requested a window table (who doesn't?) but got an inside seat while the window tables went empty during our meal. I faced my wife... which was better a view than Paris by night. Asked for sparkling water, got flat (12 Euros). Had the 5 courses. The 2 appetizers were OK. The Cod tasted like someone's unmentionables (not that there's anything wrong with that). The venison was delicious once we found it on the plate (it was that tiny a portion). The chocolate dessert was excellent. Total without wine nor extra tip was 408 Euros. (!!!) I can do without the view and am no longer impressed with doting male waiters. I more or less left with the feeling of being ripped off. For less than half the price and with wine we will dine at Philippe Excoffier, L'Initial, or Cezembre next time in Paris. More

My younger daughter and I had the pleasure of dining at Le Jules Verne with several travel friends in January. The venue in the Eiffel Tour with its fabulous views and city lights all over was marvelous and then when the Eiffel Tower lights themselves... sparkled the romantic feeling was even enhanced. - We both wished for our spouses to be present. As expected, the restaurant itself was of high quality, understated elegance with a classy ambiance. The menu presentation on a marble tablet opened the dining experience with grace. The sophisticated menu tempted even the most luxurious palate; the wine list superior. Every dish was delicious, beautifully served with waiters on cue placing plates and bowls before the guests. Timing and temperature were superb, the plating was amazing and considering a seven course meal the servings were perfect. The evening will be one of our favorite memories and I highly recommend a special dining event at Le Jules! More

We found our way in by approaching the valet car parking man and he swiftly escorted us to the little gate at the front of the security queue. At this point you can feel the glares of those queueing for general admission as you queue... jump, but we weren’t exactly dressed for tourism. After passing security we were then escorted to the restaurant reception… a haven of peace when most of Madrid and Liverpool could be heard outside (no trouble, just enthusiastic singing of football songs). Someone came in enquiring after a table and was told they were booked until August, so if you want to go here then plan well in advance! We couldn’t fault the view from our table and the service was pretty good. Be aware of the price of the champagne… €37 a glass for the all chardonnay blanc des blancs is probably a record for us and we have been to a lot of Michelin starred restaurants! Not that you come to a restaurant like this of you are concerned about prices. The sommelier irritated us by trying to push a bottle of Mercurey really hard. He made no attempt to discover our taste in wines and recommend accordingly as is the normal practice. He just seemed to assume that as Brits we’d want Burgundy? On prising the wine list off him, we selected something far more to our taste … and which cost a lot more. The Langoustine ravioli was the real wow of the meal on the tasting menu. The rest was good. After your meal, you are welcome to go out onto the tower proper as they have their own private exit to level 2. This really is the most civilised way to see the views from the Eiffel Tower and we definitely enjoyed it. It wasn’t quite a 5 star experience for us mostly because of the sommelier. More

A restaurant that should be on every food-lover´s bucket list. Located on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower - there is just no better location for a restaurant anywhere in the world. You are seated in an extraordinary dining-room with an unparalleled view, Services... is impeccable with attentive and friendly staff. The meal was exceptionally tasty, as expected when a true master is at work. The Eiffel Tower is also a gastronomic destination with Frédéric Anton at the helm. Reservations should be made in good time before visiting, as this is a much wanted experience. There is a special priority entrance for the guests (so you can skip the line), but note that tickets to the top floor of the Eiffel Tower must be bought separately, and are not offered by the restaurant. Been living in France for four years and still think the Eiffel Tower is one of the greatest things ever made. I took my fiancée to Le Jules Verne an hour after I proposed to her. She's French so you can imagine I'd be nervous... bringing her to a place her Parisian friends consider treasonously cliche. "Mais, là? Pourquoi?!" She might hand back the ring and walk into the river, right? Or, worse, she'd walk into it and KEEP the ring. No one who lives in Paris has actually eaten here. It's rumored William Morris frequently hung out in the Eiffel Tower because it was the one place in town where he didn't have to look at it, to which you'll rightfully say, "Who the hell's William Morris?" He plays soccer or something. The gorgeous, iconic, metal monstrosity is Steam Punk on max, glitters at night, and even though there's, yes, a ton of tourists to wade through at the base, the restaurant has a discreet, out-of-the-way entrance and once you're walking through it, the staff escorts you up like you're Marie Goddamn Antoinette. (These people ultimately guillotined her.) I ordered a prefix menu and from the first bite was smitten with the culinary excellence, reminiscent of my first meal at the French Laundry in Napa. Lunch and dinner are expensive, sure, but it's the alcohol that stings, so if you and your date can guzzle a bottle on the bus ride over, you'll save at least $300 on wine. Kidding. You'll save $600. The service is top notch. The view spectacular. Decor lovely. Food divine. Price is... well... fine dining. More

We were not disappointed after reserving and pre-paying our 7:15 PM dinner 90-days in advance. Amazing view of the Paris skyline. You'll note comments about the service being slow, but you need to remember you aren't eating at a fast food restaurant and the staff... doesn't wish to rush patrons. The service is excellent! Perfect location to propose to my future wife. Highly recommend if you can obtain a reservation. More

I booked a reservation well in advance as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend. He has talked about trying a Michelin star restaurant from the day I met him, and I thought what better way to celebrate our time in Paris than to enjoy a... meal IN the Eiffel Tower, iconic. The view was awesome, and the food was amazing (we selected the 7-course tasting menu with our favorite dish being the Langoustine and least favorite the Cod dish), and staff very attentive/professional. You get to skip the security line and are escorted to the restaurant entrance. Upon completing our meals, we had access to the observation platform via a private door leading from the restaurant. Concerns; My name was on the reservation and my credit card on file since this was a gift. However, when entering the establishment and throughout the meal, my boyfriend was presented the menu with prices, and addressed as Mr. “insert my last name”. I get it, most females coming to this establishment with a male are probably not paying the bill, but I would suggest looking at the reservations more closely in the future. Lastly, upon arriving at our table we were offered a glass of champagne, which we both agreed too. I thought based on the wording; the glass of champagne was part of the meal or complimentary. However, after receiving the bill I quickly realized we were charged $26 per glass. This felt very deceiving and left a poor taste in my mouth at the end of the meal. More

You can not eat in a more iconic location. Priority access to enter the grounds, private elevator to the dining room, and the food and service was by far the best we have ever experienced. From the time you are seated you are treated with... impeccable care. The sommelier was very helpful in navigating the wine list. The main dining room contained perhaps seats 40 and at one point we counted 13 or more wait-staff in there at once. All dishes are placed and removed in front of couples in unison and the food was so unique and delicious. We all had a 6 course prefixed dinner and they were the most beautiful and tasteful you may ever eat. I have always detested caviar but even that course was delicious. It may be the one of the most expensive dinners you will ever eat, but REALLY….you just ate at a Michelin restaurant in the Eiffel Tower. More

IN OTHER WORDS

Reviews of the current chef Frédéric Anton

  • Michelin’s View from the Inspectors (2024) “As we walk to the dining room, the view is entrancing. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide a panoramic view of the Seine and the city’s other iconic landmarks: Quai Branly, Trocadéro, Invalides, the Panthéon, La Défense and Montmartre. On the south side however, the view is quite different with Montparnasse Tower acting as the main attraction. Engineering buffs should sit at the counter or the alcove, where you’ll get an unparalleled view of the inner workings of the Eiffel Tower, but no other views (specify your desired seating location when booking).”
  • Michelin Guide “Frédéric Anton presides over the fortunes of this emblematic restaurant on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower, accessible by a private lift. The magic of this location 125m up from ground level instantly bewitches diners, who are further captivated by the high-flying cuisine. Every day, Kévin Garcia’s teams pull out all the stops to elevate blue-ribbon produce and deliver delicate, perfectly judged dishes boasting flavour combinations that are always on point. For example, a sublime soufflé of scallops with a Dieppoise sauce and Oscietra caviar, or grenobloise-style caramelised calf sweetbread, perfectly executed with no unnecessary frills. Germain Decreton’s desserts are in keeping with the lofty standards. When booking, ask for one of the tables near the windows, as the view over Paris through the tower’s iron fretwork is nothing short of spectacular. An impeccable welcome and very committed service.”
  • France Today (2020) “Manning the kitchen of Le Jules Verne, however, is a huge logistical challenge, since no gas is allowed in the  Eiffel Tower.  Much of the actual cooking at the restaurant is done in an underground kitchen at the foot of the tower, and the sky-high galley is really more of a garnishing and serving station. Doubtless it takes some time to master these constraints, which is why I’d be inclined to give Anton the benefit of the doubt after a recent dinner here…. Despite the curiously uneven quality of our dinner and the slightly rough dining room service, we enjoyed Le Jules Verne and, as the new team and chef Anton settle in, I expect it will become a restaurant that’s every bit as magnificent as Le Pré Catelan.

Reviews of the previous chef Alain Ducasse

  • Financial Times (2008) “Of the six dishes we tasted, four were on the better side of good, one was dreary and another just missed the mark. The “vol-au-vent slowly stewed garnish” is a witty revisiting of a French classic. Think outside the (vol-au-vent) box – forget the puff pastry (there is none), it’s all about the garniture or filling, an insolent combination of sweetbreads, crayfish and succulent chicken “oysters” with a perfectly soft-boiled egg lurking in its intensely delicious recesses. On top are lightly cooked green asparagus spears and a shower of raw asparagus shavings.”

Complete Guide to the Eiffel Tower’s Jules Verne Restaurant

French Cuisine

Since its opening in 1983, Le Jules Verne restaurant has been a bucket list dining destination. Its location on the second level of the Eiffel Tower is a once-in-a-lifetime setting for an unforgettable culinary experience.

Imagine sitting down to an intimate dinner, leaving the busy streets of Paris 410 feet below, and being surrounded by the glittering lights of the city. I had always dreamed of having that experience myself. So while planning my honeymoon in Paris, including a romantic visit to the Eiffel Tower , a table at Le Jules Verne was the first thing I booked. Believe me when I say, everything about the restaurant, from the moment you step inside to the last bite of indulgent dessert, lives up to expectations.

I’ve Rounded up everything you need to know about visiting and eating at Le Jules Verne in this handy guide, along with helpful tips for your meal. Let’s start with a quick history of this famous restaurant.

About Le Jules Verne

Plating Food

The restaurant was named in honor of famed French author, Jules Verne, who was also a spokesperson for scientific and industrial progress. If that name sounds familiar, he was the author of the classic novel, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.”

While the interior design and types of dishes have changed over the years, the restaurant itself has always been an iconic spot for Parisians and tourists alike.

In celebration of the Eiffel Tower’s 130th birthday in 2019, Le Jules Verne was given an elegant upgrade by designer Aline Asmar d’Amman. Aline pulled inspiration from the city itself using shades of silver-gray, blue-gray and green-gray to echo the sky, the Seine , and the cobblestone streets. Black, gold and metal accents added an understated sophistication to the modern design.

Three-Michelin-star chef Frédéric Anton has been at the helm of Le Jules Verne since 2019.

As the interior of the restaurant was getting a fresh new look, Frédéric revamped the menu to reflect his passions for refined cuisine and beautiful aesthetics. Each dish highlights seasonal ingredients from various regions throughout France.

Like many popular restaurants in Paris, don’t plan to drop by one evening and get a table for dinner.

Reservations are required at the Jules Verne restaurant for both lunch and dinner. Le Jules Verne is open daily from noon to 1:30 p.m for lunch and 7-9 p.m. for dinner. It’s always closed on July 14 for dinner due to the national holiday.

While children are allowed in the restaurant, it’s important to note neither high chairs or children’s menus are available. Children are required to order off the regular menu, and charged the same price as adults. If you’re looking for an excuse for an adults-only date night, this is it!

Making a reservation

Reservations can be made online up to 90 days in advance for groups of 8 or less. Larger parties need to contact the restaurant directly using this form .

As you can imagine, most guests have their eye on a table by the windows for the best views. These prime spots go fast, so be sure to request one in advance. Although it’s never guaranteed, try to make reservations early for your chosen date so you have a better chance of scoring dinner by a window inside the Eiffel Tower.

Bonus tip: Celebrating a birthday? You can pre-order a cake from the restaurant, complete with candles, to be delivered right to your table. Be sure to place the order no later than 72 hours before the reservation date.

Getting there

Guests of Le Jules Verne are treated like VIPs before even setting foot inside.

For starters, you get to bypass the long lines of tourists waiting to go up the tower. Instead, use Gustave Eiffel avenue to access the restaurant’s private entrance, located in the tower’s southern pillar. After checking in inside, a private elevator whisks you up to the second-floor restaurant.

What to wear.

The official dress code for Le Jules Verne is “smart casual.” This simply means no athletic clothing, T-shirts, sneakers, or shorts. While jeans can be acceptable, they need to be on the dressier side. Stick with a darker wash without any holes or rips.

Ideally, men should wear a dress shirt and slacks with a sports coat for dinner. Women might opt for a dress, skirt, or blouse with slacks.

Enjoy it. This is Paris after all, one of the most fashionable cities in the world. Take the opportunity to dress up and leave the casual wear for another day.

The food at Le Jules Verne

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Le Jules Verne (@lejulesverneparis)

As gorgeous as the restaurant is, let’s get down to business and talk about the food. That’s what we’re really here for after all. I’ve been known to plan entire vacations around where to eat, especially in a foodie city like Paris.

The first step is deciding whether you would rather go for lunch or dinner.

Either way you can’t go wrong, but there are a few things to consider. The view is breathtaking any time of day, but if you want to see those sparkly lights twinkling in the background, dinner is the way to go.

Le Jules Verne is a Michelin Star restaurant, and the prices reflect that. If you’re planning your Paris trip on a budget , make a reservation for lunch. An à la carte menu is available only during lunch and is friendlier on the wallet than the tasting menus. (More on tasting menus below.) You will still get to enjoy classic Le Jules Verne dishes, just without the formality of a multi-course tasting menu.

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by BEST RESTAURANTS GUIDE (@bestrestaurantsguide)

For lunch, you can choose to order à la carte or opt for the 5-7 course tasting menu. The à la carte menu is only available Monday-Friday, and offers a selection of starters, entrees and desserts.

On the à la carte menu you will find dishes like:

  • Ravioli with fresh herbs, sheep cheese, and garlic cream
  • Cod with condiments and Hollandaise sauce
  • Beef with pepper sauce and grosse frites
  • Apple tatin with dentelle de croissant and crème cru ice cream

Some of those dishes or ingredients may sound unfamiliar to you — that is perfectly OK! Don’t hesitate to ask your server for help. Menus are also posted online , making it a breeze to research ahead of time.

The tasting menu may seem intimidating, but it’s the perfect way to try dishes you wouldn’t normally order. If you’re on the fence and it’s within your budget, go for it!

For dinner there is not an à la carte option, only the 5-7 course tasting menus. Wine pairings, thoughtfully chosen by the restaurant’s master sommeliers are available to compliment either menu.

Standouts from the tasting menus include:

  • Scallops with Hollandaise sauce, thinly sliced sea urchin, and lime zest
  • Farmhouse poultry with black truffle, pomme anna, and jus gras
  • Langoustine ravioli with truffle cream and beetroot jelly
  • Chocolate souffle with cocoa nib ice cream

After the incredible lunch or dinner you are bound to have, head to the second floor viewing deck via a private entrance from inside the restaurant.

A dinner to remember at Le Jules Verne

In a city filled with remarkable restaurants, nothing compares to the experience of dining inside the Eiffel Tower. You’ll remember the artistic, flavorful dishes and breathtaking views for years to come.

The next question is, where should you eat for the rest of the trip? We have you covered there too. Check out our local guide to some of the best restaurants with views of the Eiffel Tower .

Choosing between lunch and dinner at Jules Verne depends on what you’re looking for in your dining experience.

Insider Tip: Visiting the Eiffel Tower at night is a great idea.

Jules Verne is a highly-rated restaurant  on Tripadvisor .

Here are some of the phrases used by guests while describing their experience at the Eiffel Tower restaurant:

# Chocolate dessert # Once in a lifetime experience # Paris skyline # Window table # Glass of champagne

Four trips to this 2 Star Michelin restaurant and won’t be our last. Everyone goes the first time for the view and come back for the exceptional food and service. Not inexpensive, but worth every penny. Although the menu is fixed, they managed to effortlessly allow for my wife’s seafood allergy with excellent alternative courses. 794Charless
Our lunch at the Jules Verne absolutely lived up to expectations and hopes. The food was sublime as you would expect from a 2* Michelin restaurant. The staff are fantastic, very unobtrusive, but always attentive and friendly. We had the seven course tasting menu with wine pairings and it was superb. The view of course is another plus. 740Stuarta, Farnham, UK

Here are some questions guests planning to book a table at Jules Verne ask.

Eating at Jules Verne is expensive, but it depends on what you value. If fine dining, incredible Eiffel Tower views, and a unique experience matter to you, it is worth the price.

You can expect a refined, elegant atmosphere at the restaurant with subdued lighting and an air of sophistication.

Jules Verne doesn’t offer a kids’ menu or a high chair for infants. If you plan to visit with kids, booking a  lunch or dinner at the Madame Brasserie  is better. It is more child-friendly and even has a kids’ menu.

Yes, the Eiffel Tower restaurant accommodates as long as the guests inform them about their allergies or dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, etc.) in advance using their  contact form .

If you are not on a budget holiday, opt for the 5 or 7-course tasting menu, which is better than the a la carte menu.

Frédéric Anton took over as the restaurant’s Chef in 2019. He is a celebrated chef known for his precise and innovative culinary style. He has also earned multiple Michelin stars for his work at other prestigious establishments.

Jules Verne offers contemporary French cuisine with a focus on fine dining and exquisite presentation.

Valet parking service is available near the southern pillar, at the corner of Avenue Octave Gérard and Avenue Charles Floquet.

The restaurant is accredited with One MICHELIN Star.

No, because the Eiffel Tower is a completely non-smoking area.

You can cancel your reservation 48 hours before your arrival if you want a refund of your partial prepayment debited at the time of booking. Canceling less than 48 hours before your arrival doesn’t get you any refund.
