How to Find Missing Safari Icon on iPhone or iPad

By: Waseem Patwegar | Filed Under: iOS

When the Safari Icon goes missing from the Home screen of iPhone, most users start thinking about the possibility of Safari App being accidentally deleted by them or by someone with access to their device.

However, this is never the case as Apple prevents users from deleting native apps and Safari happens to be one of the most essential native Apps that cannot be deleted from an Apple device.

In most cases, the problem of missing Safari Icon ends up being due to the Safari App being accidentally moved to another Home Screen or becoming hidden in a Folder on the App Library screen.

A less common reason for Safari Icon missing or disappearing from the Home screen on iPhone is due to the Safari App being restricted by Screen Time Settings .

What to Do If Safari Icon is Missing on iPhone?

It can be quite frustrating to find Safari Icon missing on iPhone. Fortunately, in most cases, you should be able to fix this problem using the following steps.

1. Check All Home Screens & Folders

As mentioned above, the most common reason for Safari Icon missing on iPhone is due to the Safari App being accidentally moved to another Home Screen or a Folder.

Hence, the first step would be to carefully go through all the Home screens on your iPhone and look for the Safari App.

Also, go through all Folders and make sure that Safari Icon is not hiding in a Folder on your device.

Follow the steps below to make your iPhone look for the missing Safari app.

3. Look For Safari in App Library

If you had accidentally removed Safari from the Home screen, it should be available in the App Library on your iPhone.

1. Swipe Left on the Home screen of your iPhone, until you reach the App Library screen.

2. On App Library screen, type Safari in the Search bar and you should find Safari appearing in the Search results.

3. Once Safari appears in the search results, tap and hold on Safari Icon and select Add to Home Screen option.

How to Get Safari Back on iPhone (iOS 17)

What to know.

  • Typically, if Safari has disappeared, it most likely was just removed from the Home Screen.
  • Some users are reporting that there is a glitch that appears to delete the Safari app from your iPhone altogether.
  • To get it back, you must re-download the Safari app from the App Store.

Has your Safari app suddenly vanished into thin air? The good news is that you don't have the option to delete the native Safari app on your iPhone, so it has likely just been accidentally removed from your Home Screen. For this situation, we'll show you how to find the hidden app and move it back to your Home Screen. In rare cases, a software glitch can delete the app from your iPhone, so it will need to be re-installed. For either situation, let's cover how to get Safari back on your Home Screen.

Safari deleted re-install safari on iphone.

For most people, the missing Safari app has not been deleted, just removed from the Home Screen. Below, we'll show you how to find the app and move it back to your Home Screen by searching the App Library or by using Siri Search. Both methods will work if Safari has simply been removed from your Home Screen, so you can simply choose the option you prefer.

How to Put App Back on Home Screen Using the App Library

Here's how to add Safari to your Home Screen by searching the App Library:

iPhone Life

Your Safari app should now be added back to your Home Screen! If you're not familiar with the App Library, I recommend checking out this article on how to use the App Library . How to Add Safari to Home Screen Using Siri Search

If you prefer to avoid searching your App Library, you can also find the hidden app by using Siri Search. Here's how to add Safari to your iPhone Home Screen:

Open Spotlight Search

Adding the Safari app to your dock is optional, but it does make it more convenient to access Safari. Your dock displays up to four apps at any given time, and will appear at the bottom of each Home Screen.

If you were not able to find Safari using the solutions above, the app has likely been removed from your iPhone. Below, we'll show you how to re-download Safari from the App Store. If that fails, you may need to reset your Home Screen layout to get Safari back on your device.

Download Safari from the App Store

Here's how to re-install the Safari app on your iPhone so you can get it back on your Home Screen:

Open the App Store.

Reset Your Home Screen to Re-install Safari

If you were not able to find or re-install Safari using the steps above, this method will reset your iPhone’s Home Screen back to the factory version, which is how the Home Screen looks when setting your device up as new. Since Safari is one of the apps featured on the default Home Screen, this method will allow you to add Safari to your Home Screen.

Open the Settings app.

Hopefully, the solutions above worked, and you found adding Safari to your Home Screen to be a breeze! However, if the above solutions haven't worked, there might be a deeper issue with your device. In this case, I recommend contacting Apple Support or visiting the nearest Apple store for further assistance. If you're interested, I also recommend learning how to find your lost iPhone , even if the battery has died.

  • How do I get the Safari icon back on my iPhone?  If your Safari app was accidentally erased, you can get the app icon back on your iPhone by redownloading the Safari app from the app store. If your Safari app was simply removed from the Home Screen but not your device, you can just add the Safari icon back to your Home Screen by using the App Library.
  • Why did my Safari app disappear on my iPhone?   At the moment, it is unclear why this glitch is happening to some iPhone users. However, for the most part, if your Safari icon has disappeared, you can either redownload the app from the App Store or add it to your Home Screen again via the App Library.
  • Why can't I get Safari on my iPhone?  Sometimes people are unable to download apps and run into many other glitches and issues if their iOS is old or out of date. It's important for security reasons and for the overall smooth running of your device to keep it as up-to-date as possible. Check to see if your iPhone needs to be updated, and if so, check out this article on how to do it .

How To Fix A Missing Safari Icon On iPhone Or iPad

Safari icon touchscreen

Safari is built into iOS and cannot be removed from your iPhone or iPad (except when the device has been jailbroken), but it can go missing from the home screen. If it does, it's often easy enough to locate it.

You can usually find it with the Spotlight — swipe down on the home screen and search "safari." Sometimes a user will tuck Safari into a cluttered folder where the icon can get lost. To find it, you just have to look for it.

Suppose you always launch the app from the App Library, and the Safari icon is missing. In that case, it's possible the browser was accidentally deleted from the App Library — a space where all apps are auto-organized into tidy folders. You can hide an app from the Home Screen when it's being moved to the App Library. When it's also deleted from the Library, the icon can go missing.

But what's more likely is that the restriction features in iOS are hiding Safari from you. Parental controls or Screen Time management can hide Safari from view, according to Apple .

How to bring the missing Safari icon back

Before reconfiguring the restriction features on your iPhone or iPad, try resetting the Home Screen. The Safari icon may be hidden, not the app itself. Here's what Apple  recommends.

  • Open Settings.
  • Find and tap General.
  • Select Transfer or Reset iPhone .
  • Select Reset.
  • Select Reset Home Screen Layout.
  • Select Reset Home Screen.

Resetting the Home Screen sends all app icons back to their original slots.

If you still can't see Safari, Screen Time is hiding the app from you. Screen Time is a feature that limits how much time you're allowed on a particular app. It's protected with a PIN (that's supposed to be different from the password that unlocks your iPhone or iPad).

You can either disable Screen Time entirely, or just safelist Safari.

  • Tap Screen Time.
  • Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  • Enter your passcode.
  • Tap Allowed Apps.
  • Enable the switch next to Safari to allow it.

To disable the feature entirely, you can also toggle off the switch next to Content & Privacy Restrictions.

In case, Safari is missing from your iPhone then you might be looking to reinstall it. Well, you can’t reinstall Safari on iPhone because the app is already there on your iPhone or iPad. Moreover, you cannot update Safari from the App Store as it updates automatically when there is an iOS update.

That said if you can’t find Safari on your iOS device then you shouldn’t worry. The app is intact on your iPhone with all the settings and data including browsing data and logins. Possibly, Safari isn’t appearing just because you accidentally removed it from your home screen, moved it to an app folder, or disabled the app at some point in time.

Thank you! There were many other sites whose only solution was to reset the home screen which, apparently, reverts it to factory settings! I did not want that. Your solution to restore the (in my case) Safari icon was fast, easy, and accurate! I knew there had to be a better way! Thank you, again!

Troubleshooting Safari Icon Visibility

The iPhone screen shows the Safari browser icon missing. A magnifying glass hovers over the icon, indicating troubleshooting

When the Safari icon goes missing on an iPhone, it doesn’t mean the app is deleted. It could be hidden on a different Home Screen, within a folder, or the settings might have changed. Here are steps to get it back.

Check All Folders and Screens

Sometimes, we reorganize apps without noticing. Safari could easily be tucked away in a folder. Check any folders that exist by tapping them and inspecting their contents.

Use Spotlight Search to Locate Safari

Using Spotlight Search is a quick way to determine if Safari is still on your iPhone. If the app appears in the results, it has not been deleted and is merely hidden somewhere in your layout.

Inspect Content & Privacy Restrictions

If you’ve ruled out accidental deletion or misplacement, it’s time to check if restrictions were applied.

This setting can prevent Safari from appearing on the Home Screen. If it’s disabled in the restrictions, simply toggle it back to regain visibility of the Safari icon.

These steps will cover the vast majority of scenarios when the Safari icon seems to disappear. However, if you’re still unable to locate or access Safari after following these tips, it might be worth exploring other more complex IT support routes or potentially seeking help from Apple.

Resetting Home Screen Layout

When the Safari app disappears from your iPhone, resetting your Home Screen layout is a quick and effective method to retrieve it. This process can declutter your Home Screen and restore the original settings.

Reset Home Screen to Default

In the event of a missing Safari icon, we can return our iPhone’s Home Screen layout to its default configuration. Here’s how we do it:

By selecting ‘Reset Home Screen Layout,’ our iPhone will revert to its original state, which means apps like Safari will return to their default locations. Ensure any customized folders or app placements will also be reset.

Restart iPhone to Refresh Layout

Sometimes we must restart our iPhone to effectuate changes or solve minor software issues:

Restarting can refresh your Home Screen layout and may bring back the Safari icon. If the reset is unsuccessful, ensure that iOS is up-to-date or check if Safari is not restricted in your settings.

Restoring Safari App and Data

We often rely on the Safari app for daily browsing, but what happens when Safari disappears from our iPhone? Here’s how to ensure that your browsing data remains intact and how to restore the Safari app if it has been accidentally deleted.

Recovering Accidentally Deleted Safari App

Step 1: Open the App Store and tap on the Search tab at the bottom.

Step 2: Type “Safari” in the search bar. Check if the app appears with a cloud icon, which indicates it’s not currently installed on your iPhone.

Step 3: Tap the cloud icon to redownload the Safari app.

Restoring iPhone from Backup

By trusting these steps, our experience with technology can be seamless and stress-free. If complications arise, Apple Support is always available to assist with restoring our devices and retrieving our valuable information.

Additional Help and Support

If you’re dealing with a Safari icon that’s missing from your iPhone, we have some additional steps you can try. These methods will provide you with support beyond the basic troubleshooting and ensure that any potential software glitches or parental control settings are properly addressed.

Contact Apple Support for Assistance

Utilize online troubleshooting guides.

If you’re looking for a quick fix or want to understand more about common issues before involving Apple Support, we recommend exploring online troubleshooting guides. These resources are often filled with detailed steps tailored to fix Safari icon disappearance, which may be caused by accidental app deletion or restriction settings. Fortunately, there’s no need to tirelessly scroll through your home screen, as it is possible to restore the missing app icons on your iPhone home screen with the tips mentioned below.

Table of Contents

1. Restart or Force Restart Your iPhone

Restarting your iPhone is a basic yet effective trick for fixing temporary glitches. To do this, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the side, then use the slider to turn off your iPhone. Wait for a minute or two before turning it back on.

If the issue remains, you can try performing a force reboot. For that, press and quickly release the volume up button, followed by pressing and quickly releasing the volume down button. Then, press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.

Once your iPhone boots up, check if you can find your missing apps.

2. Free Up Storage Space

Although restoring icons from the app library to your iPhone home screen is easy, repeating the same troubleshooting steps often is inconvenient. Make sure you address the reasons why shortcut icons suddenly go missing.

  • Moved Folder Positions: Be careful not to hide iOS apps and pages by accident. In Edit Home Screen mode, you can hide and unhide entire pages through the page swipe indicator dots above the home screen dock.

Step 2: Search for Safari

Swipe down on the home screen and use the Search feature to look for Safari.

Sometimes, Safari might not be deleted but just hidden in a folder or on another page. The Search feature will help you locate it quickly. If it appears in the search results, you can open it from there, and it will tell you which folder it’s in so you can move it back to your home screen later.

Step 3: Reinstall from App Store

If steps 1 and 2 don’t work, open the App Store, search for Safari, and download it again.

If Safari was indeed deleted, it could easily be reinstalled from the App Store. Just search for it, and as it’s an Apple app, it should be the first result. Tap the download icon, and it will reinstall on your device. Once reinstalled, Safari will be back on your home screen or App Library.

Additional Information

When Safari disappears from your iPhone 13, it can feel like you’re cut off from the world wide web. But fear not! The solutions provided here are reliable and tested. Plus, once you get Safari back, you can take preventative steps to avoid future disappearances. For instance, you can rearrange your apps to keep Safari on the main home screen or the dock for easy access.

Another tip is to regularly backup your iPhone 13 either through iCloud or your computer. That way, if you ever need to restore your device, you won’t lose important data like your Safari bookmarks. Remember that while Safari might be the default browser for iPhone 13, other browser apps can be used in case Safari isn’t available for some reason.

  • Check Restrictions to ensure Safari isn’t being blocked.
  • Use the Search feature to find Safari in case it’s hidden.
  • Reinstall Safari from the App Store if necessary.

Tips & Tricks

Troubleshooting, icons randomly missing on iphone here’s a fix.

iPhone missing icons on Home Screen and dock

A peculiar issue can occur for some iPhone users where the icons on their device screen are missing. The icon names may or may not appear, or the icon badges may or may not appear, but the icon itself is usually gone.

Sometimes the entire bottom row of icons in the Dock are missing, along with other icons that are supposed to be on the iPhone Home Screen or within folders.

When the icons are missing, the places they should appear on the screen are still taken up, but they are not clickable, and nothing shows up there at all. It’s a very strange issue and it can be somewhat alarming. But don’t worry, if this happens to you the icons are not gone permanently.

So, does your iPhone screen look something like this, missing icons randomly?

iPhone missing icons

If so, don’t panic.

Help, My iPhone Apps Icons Are Missing!

1: reboot iphone.

The first thing you’ll want to do is reboot your iPhone .

A hard reboot is often the easiest thing to do, which is accomplished by pressing Volume Up, then Volume Down, then pressing and holding the Power button until you see the  Apple logo show up on screen.

Sometimes this alone can fix the missing icon problem, or the blank dock issue.

If the iPhone starts back up and is still missing icons (often they will be different icons missing after a reboot, like a fun game of musical chairs), the next thing to do is to clear up some storage space on the iPhone itself.

2: Clear up storage space

Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage and locate apps, videos, or other large data hogs, and remove them from the iPhone.

Make sure the iPhone has at least 1GB of storage space freely available.

Then reboot the iPhone again by turning it off and back on (or hard reboot again).

At this point the icons should be back on the screen as expected.

What’s going on here? Why does this happen?

Having personally encountered this issue several times with my iPhone 11 running various versions of iOS 14.6 and iOS 14.x, it’s a bit of a mystery as to what is going on. However, because clearing up storage space and a reboot seems to fix the problem, it could simply be a quirk of what happens when iPhone has run out of space and can’t figure itself out. In my experience, the phone ends up like this in the morning after the iPhone has been plugged in and unused over night, though it’s unclear what if anything that may have to do with why it happens.

It’s well known the iPhone starts dramatically underperforming and misbehaving when the devices storage is full, sometimes deleting photos, mail, apps (though this is a feature called Offload Apps which is separate from the issue mentioned here), and other data from the device. Or perhaps your contacts are seemingly lost, showing phone numbers instead of names as they should. It’s not always related, but try and always keep some storage space available on your device so that it performs well.

It appears that variations of this problem have shown up on Apple discussion boards for a while, so if it’s a bug then it may been longstanding and yet to be addressed. Nonetheless, try freeing up some storage space on your device, and then rebooting, it should work and the icons should be restored.

Thanks, this column really helped.

Thanks, this worked for me!

I rebooted my iPhone but my settings icon is missing but i can still click on it because I know where it is supposed to be but I’ll go to general and then storage but whenever I get to storage the app crashes, and then when I go to photos it always is just a black screen. Is there anything else I can do.

Thank you for these basic steps. Unfortunately neither of those tips worked for me. More advanced information would be great. Thank you

I hate my 12SE without a proper home button, unresponsive glass & now a disappearing DuckDuckGo icon. None of the recommended strategies brought it back. I may go back to the 5S that is out of support but so user friendly (and never lost any icons).

Maybe Apple had had its day.

My Apple Camera icon disaopeared and removing videos from storage and turning off and on did not solve. Also, my storage shows 58 of 128GB used. Anything else I can try?

i did force restart but it made things worse! i tried freeing storage but all it did was crash! i guess its bye bye… my iPhone SE 2 Had a good life

I have noted missing app icons on my iPhone, but when I scrolled to the app library page I would see the missing app icons.

I think in the circumstance shown in pictures it is clearly a unique bug.

No missing icons altogether, but I do have a persistent problem with three icons for New York Times sites changing from the Times T to the bee icon that goes with the Times spelling game. The bee should go with the spelling game; the other two sites should have the T. iOS seems not to understand that. So some mornings I have three bees; others, Ts.

I get that too with my Home Screen bookmark of osxdaily.com, sometimes the bookmark icon is the X and then sometimes it is a generic icon, and I can’t figure this out at all. I used to have the same problem with the Amazon.com bookmark showing a tablet or the A, but I ended up just removing that and going there directly.

How to Get Missing Apps Back on Your iPhone

Find missing apps like Safari, FaceTime, Camera, and App Store

What to Know

  • If you can't find the app using the iPhone Spotlight search tool , go to the Settings app to see if Restrictions are enabled.
  • Go to the Apple Store to reinstall iPhone apps that you've purchased or preloaded apps that you may have deleted.
  • If your phone is jailbroken, you might need to restore your iPhone to factory settings to get back your missing apps.

This article explains how to get apps back on an iPhone when they've gone missing. Instructions apply to all iOS devices.

How to Search for Missing Apps

Not all apps that appear to be missing are actually hidden or gone. Make sure that the apps are truly missing, and not simply moved to another screen or in a folder . After upgrades to iOS, apps are sometimes moved to new folders. If you recently upgraded your operating system, try searching for the app you're looking for using  the built-in Spotlight search tool .

If Spotlight doesn't turn up the app you're looking for, check to see if Restrictions are enabled in the Settings app. How you turn them off depends on what version of the iOS you're running.

How to Get Deleted Apps Back

Your apps could also be missing because they've been deleted. As of iOS 10 , Apple allows you to delete some pre-installed apps (though technically those apps are just hidden, not deleted). Earlier versions of the iOS didn't allow this.

You get these deleted apps back by reinstalling them. To learn how to reinstall built-in apps that have been deleted, read How to Download Apps You've Already Purchased .

Getting Apps Back After Jailbreaking

If you've jailbroken your phone , it's possible that you have truly deleted some of your phone's built-in apps. If that's the case, you'll need to restore your phone to factory settings in order to get those apps back. This removes the jailbreak, but it's the only way to get those apps back.

Why Do iPhone Apps Go Missing?

Every iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch comes pre-loaded with a ton of useful apps from Apple, but sometimes those apps can go missing. If that happens, you may wonder where they went, why they disappeared, and how to get them back.

The apps that this can happen to include the App Store  app, the Safari web browser, the iTunes Store app, Camera , FaceTime , and many others. There are a number of possible reasons why an app has disappeared. It could have been moved or deleted. That's obvious. Less obvious is that "missing" apps may still be on your device but have been hidden using iOS's  Restrictions feature.

All About the iPhone Restrictions Feature

The iPhone Restrictions feature built into iOS allows users to turn off certain pre-installed apps and features. Besides blocking apps, Restrictions can be used to disable or block changes to a lot of functions and features of the iOS — including Privacy settings, changing email accounts, Location Services, Game Center, and more.

Most importantly for this article, though, when Restrictions are in use, apps can be disabled and hidden — at least until Restrictions are turned off. If enabled, Restrictions can be used to hide the following apps:

Why Restrictions Might Be Used to Hide Apps

As mentioned earlier, there are two groups of people who will generally use Restrictions to hide apps: parents and IT administrators.

Parents use Restrictions to prevent their children from accessing apps, settings, or content that they don't want them to. This can be to prevent them from accessing mature content or from exposing themselves to online predators via social networking or photo sharing.

On the other hand, if you get your iOS device through your employer, apps may be missing thanks to settings instituted by your company's IT administrators. They may be in place due to corporate policies about the kind of content you can access on your device or for security reasons.

How to Disable iOS Restrictions on iOS 12 and Up

If you're running iOS 12 or newer, follow these steps:

  • Tap Settings .
  • Tap Screen Time .
  • Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions .
  • If Restrictions are already turned on, you'll be asked to enter the passcode. This is where it gets hard. If you're a kid or a corporate employee, you may not know the passcode your parents or IT administrators used (which is the point, of course). If you don't know it, you're basically out of luck. Sorry. If you do know it, though, enter it.
  • If you can access the Restrictions settings, you can enable some apps while leaving others hidden, by moving the slider next to the app you want to use to  on/green .
  • Move the Content & Privacy Restrictions slider to off/white   to enable all apps and turn Restrictions off entirely.

How to Disable iOS Restrictions on iOS 11 and Lower

The Restrictions settings are in a different place in iOS 11 and lower:

  • Tap General .
  • Tap Restrictions .
  • The same issue with the Restrictions passcode as described in the last section applies here. If you know the passcode, enter it and choose which apps to enable.
  • Tap Disable Restrictions to enable all apps and turn Restrictions off entirely.

To  hide apps on an iPhone , open the App Store app and tap your profile icon . Go to your Account screen and tap Purchased to see a listing of the apps you’ve downloaded on your device. Tap All to see all your apps. Locate the app you want to hide, swipe left, and tap Hide .

To  unhide apps on an iPhone , navigate to your App Library via the iPhone’s home screen by swiping right until you reach it. Tap the search bar to view apps alphabetically. Tap and hold the app you want to unhide, and then slide to the left to move it to your home screen and unhide it.

To delete hidden apps on an iPhone, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage and view all your apps in order of memory size. Find the hidden app you want to delete, tap it, and tap Delete App .

iPhone App Disappeared? How to Find Missing Apps on Your iPhone

How many times have you flicked through your Home Screens and you still can't find that app? Here's how to find hidden or missing apps on your iPhone.

Are you trying to open an app on your iPhone but can't find it anywhere? It can be worrying if it's a vital app you use for finance, productivity, or work.

Sometimes, we may intentionally hide an app, forget about it, and then struggle to locate it when needed, whereas other times, the app seems to have disappeared from the Home Screen of your iPhone.

Whatever the case, if you can't unhide apps or notice that some apps are missing from your iPhone's Home Screen, here's how to find them.

1. Find Your App in the App Library

If an app is installed on your iPhone but not on your Home Screen, it's probably in the App Library, which places all your apps in proper categories. Swipe left on the last Home Screen page to reach App Library . Then, use the Search box to find your missing app quickly.

Once you find the app you're looking for, long-press its app icon in the App Library, and if this app isn't on the Home Screen, you will see an option to Add to Home Screen . Alternatively, you can drag it left from the App Library onto the Home Screen.

In the future, if you want all the new apps you download to show on the iPhone Home Screen, open Settings > Home Screen and select Add to Home Screen . This will put an end to new apps not appearing on the Home Screen.

2. Use Spotlight to Find the Missing App

The second method is to use Spotlight search, which helps you find files and apps stored anywhere on your device.

If your iPhone is updated to iOS 16 or later, just tap the Search button above the Dock to access this feature. If not, swipe down on the center of your Home Screen to bring up Spotlight search.

Now, type the app name to find it. Once you do, you can also long-press the app icon and select the Add to Home Screen option or manually drag it onto the Home Screen.

3. Ask Siri to Open the Missing App

You can use Siri to open downloaded apps that have disappeared from the Home Screen. If you have already set up Siri on your iPhone , simply activate the voice assistant and ask it to "Open [app name]."

To activate Siri, you can say "Hey Siri" or press and hold the Side button (on iPhones with Face ID) or Home button (on iPhones with Touch ID). Besides opening apps, there are many other tasks you can ask Siri to carry out for you .

4. Look Inside Folders to Find Hidden Apps

Sometimes we put apps inside folders to hide them or keep them away from plain sight in case those apps aren't used frequently. After a while, it's possible to forget about them.

If this is your situation, open all the app folders on your iPhone Home Screen and look for the missing app inside. Once you find it, you may want to drag the app icon out of the folder onto the Home Screen.

5. Check Screen Time to Unhide Restricted Apps

You can use Screen Time to hide and restrict iPhone apps like Safari, Camera, FaceTime, Mail, and more. As a result, you won't find the app icons for these restricted apps on the Home Screen or the App Library. They won't even appear in Spotlight search results or be accessible via Siri.

To unhide these apps, open Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps and ensure all the apps are allowed. Next, tap Back , go to Content Restrictions > Apps , and select Allow All Apps . Alternatively, you can also turn off Screen Time on your iPhone and iPad to remove all the restrictions at once.

After doing this, you should see the missing app icons on the Home Screen and App Library. If not, you'll have to use the Spotlight search method explained above to re-add them to the Home Screen.

6. Unhide Home Screen Pages to See All Your Apps

iOS allows you to hide Home Screen pages for a cleaner look, but if you did that accidentally, you might get confused, wondering where your installed apps have gone.

Worry not! If you want to continue retaining a minimalist Home Screen, you can access the downloaded apps in the App Library or restore your Home Screen pages by unhiding them.

To avoid confusion in the future, learn more about hiding and unhiding the Home Screen pages .

7. Use App Store to Check If an App Is Installed or Not

When an app is downloaded on your iPhone, the App Store page says Open (or Update ). If the app is not downloaded, it says Get (or shows the Download cloud icon).

Using this information, here's how to find a missing app on your iPhone:

  • Long press the App Store icon and tap Search .
  • Type the name of the missing app.
  • In the search results, if the app says Open , tap it. If it says Get or shows a cloud icon, download it.

8. Reset the Home Screen Layout to View All Apps Alphabetically

If you want every app listed alphabetically to be sure not to miss anything, you can reset the Home Screen and Dock layout. After this, the Home Screen will show all the Apple apps (just like a new iPhone). And the apps you have downloaded will be placed alphabetically in order.

Here's how to reset your iPhone's Home Screen layout:

  • Open Settings and tap General .
  • Scroll to the bottom and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout .

9. Additional Fixes if You Still Can't Find an App

Most of the methods we covered above involve unhiding an app and getting it back on the Home Screen again. But if those don't work, an app disappearing may be caused by a glitch.

In this case, you can use generic (but frequently effective) solutions such as restarting your iPhone . You should also update your iPhone to ensure your device receives bug fixes from the latest version of iOS. Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check if an iOS update is available.

Hopefully, You Found the Missing iPhone App!

These were the quick ways to find any missing or hidden apps on iPhone. Sometimes if you can't find an app, you likely deleted it. In this case, re-download it from the App Store.

Additionally, it's possible that the app was removed from the App Store by the developer or Apple (as was the case with Flappy Bird and Fortnite, respectively). In such situations, you will have to use one of its alternatives.

If it's often difficult to find apps or open them quickly, it might be worth allocating some time to organize your iPhone's Home Screen layout to help with that.

Remove or delete apps from iPhone

You can easily remove or delete apps from your iPhone. If you change your mind, you can download the apps again later (if they’re still available in the App Store).

Do any of the following:

Remove an app from the Home Screen: Touch and hold the app on the Home Screen, tap Remove App, then tap Remove from Home Screen to keep it in App Library, or tap Delete App to delete it from iPhone.

Delete an app from App Library and Home Screen: Touch and hold the app in App Library, tap Delete App, then tap Delete. (See Find your apps in App Library .)

If you change your mind, you can redownload apps you’ve removed.

In addition to removing third-party apps from the Home Screen, you can remove the following built-in Apple apps that came with your iPhone:

Contacts (Contact information remains available through Phone, Messages, Mail, FaceTime, and other apps. To remove a contact, you must restore Contacts.)

FaceTime (In iOS 17.4 or later, if you remove the FaceTime app from your iPhone, or if you removed it in an earlier version of iOS before updating to iOS 17.4, you won’t be able to make or receive FaceTime calls or join SharePlay sessions on your iPhone unless you redownload the app . See Make FaceTime calls on iPhone .)

Find My (Removing this app doesn’t turn off location sharing or Find My for your device or items—it just removes the ability to view locations in the Find My app on that device.)

iTunes Store

Voice Memos

Wallet (Removing this app doesn’t delete cards and passes you stored in iCloud.)

Note: When you remove a built-in app from your Home Screen, you also remove any related user data and configuration files. Removing built-in apps from your Home Screen can also affect other system functionality.

Hey Missing-app,

It's likely Safari was removed from the Home Screen, but should still be present in the App Library. We'd recommend reviewing this article for steps to help locate and add Safari back to the Home Screen: Organize the Home Screen and App Library on your iPhone - Apple Support

"Find, hide, and remove pages on your Home Screen

With iOS 14 and later, you can hide pages to streamline how your Home Screen looks and add them back whenever you want. Here's how to hide a page:

  • Touch and hold an empty area on your Home Screen.
  • Tap the dots near the bottom of your screen.
  • Tap the circle under the page that you want to hide.
  • Tap Done.

To unhide a page, repeat the steps above. Then use the App Library to quickly find apps hidden on different pages.

To remove pages from your Home Screen:

When you remove a page from your Home Screen, the apps will still appear in the App Library."

Spring cleaning: Make your iPhone feel new again

T here are two types of iPhone users: those whose unread emails are non-existent, and those whose mail app shows a four-digit red number. If you find yourself in the latter camp, your smartphone is probably housing more than just unopened messages but unnecessary apps and outdated files. A cluttered iPhone doesn't just make it hard to find the right app, a smartphone with storage near capacity can have reduced performance.

A cluttered iPhone doesn't just make it hard to find the right app, a smartphone with storage near capacity can have reduced performance.

But, when it comes time to clean up an iPhone, there are a few tricks that can make the process faster. And, frankly, who doesn't love a way to simplify their spring-cleaning chore list? Here are a few tips and tricks to clean up your iPhone quickly, from opening up storage to physically disinfecting your device.

How to clean and disinfect your AirPods and AirPods Max

How to clear memory on an iphone by deleting unused apps, photos, and files.

Once your iPhone's storage is full, you can't take any more photos or download any apps -- ideally, you should clear out unused data before your smartphone becomes perilously full.

How to quickly remove apps from an iPhone

The easiest place to start is by deleting unused apps. To delete an app from your home screen, follow these steps:

  • Tap and hold on the app until a small menu pops up.
  • To delete several apps quickly, tap Edit Home Screen . In this mode, all the app icons start to wiggle.
  • You do not need to exit the wiggly app mode to navigate to different home pages, you can simply swipe over to the other pages.

One of the biggest culprits that triggers a "storage full" message on the iPhone is photos and videos. The first step is to save the photos that you want to keep in another location -- and there are a few different ways to do this. You can plug your iPhone into a MacBook and use the Photos app to transfer the files over to your MacBook. Or, you can transfer photos to a portable hard drive plugged into your iPhone. Cloud storage is another option as well, if you have the space.

Before you start, be sure you have the photos in another location besides the iCloud, as deleting images from your iPhone will also remove them from the iCloud.

Once you've saved the memories that you don't want to lose, it's time to mass delete large quantities of photos . If you don't need any of those old photos, you can follow this guide to quickly delete all iPhone photos. If you have a few photos that you pull up on occasion, there are still some shortcuts that you can use to delete large amounts of photos without removing everything.

The fastest way to clear out unnecessary photos is to use the iPhone's built-in utility that finds and merges duplicate images, keeping only one version.

  • Open the Photos app and tap Albums.
  • Scroll down to Utilities .
  • Select Duplicates .
  • Tap Select in the upper right corner.
  • Tap Select All .
  • At the bottom, tap Merge .
  • In the pop-up, choose whether you want to merge only exact copies, or similar copies as well.

How to hide a photo and create a hidden album on iPhone

While removing duplicate photos is great, the iPhone, unfortunately, doesn't have an option to automatically remove all your unflattering selfies. But, you can quickly select large groupings of images.

  • If you scroll down on the album page, you can also see folders organized into media types. This is a great shortcut for, say, deleting all of your screenshots at once.
  • Next, tap the first photo in the grouping to delete, then drag your finger across the screen and photos until you've selected every image in that section. Skip over any images that you want to keep and repeat until you've selected everything that you want to remove.
  • Tap the trashcan icon in the lower right corner and confirm your deletion in the pop-up window.

How to organize your iPhone's home screen and add widgets

Once you've cleared out the storage space, your iPhone home screen may look a bit bare. Organizing your home screen allows you to access your most frequently used apps the fastest, while making other apps easier to find. I like to put my most-used apps on the first page, then arrange subsequent pages by category, so everything is easy to find, but you can use whatever organization strategy fits your lifestyle.

  • Tap and hold the background of the home screen until the apps start to wiggle.
  • To move an app, tap and drag the icon to its new position. Drag to the side of the screen to jump to a new page.
  • To create a folder of apps, drag one app and drop it on top of another app that you want to group it with. Type in a folder name at the top. Tap outside the folder to exit. Any subsequent apps to be added can be dragged to the new folder rather than dragging on top of another app.
  • To add a new Widget, tap the plus icon. On the next screen, select a Smart Stack for a group of Widgets, or choose a Widget from the list.
  • Widgets can be dragged and dropped to new home screen locations just like app icons can. Or, you can leave your home screen Widget-free and access Widgets by swiping from the left, then tapping the edit button on the bottom to customize.

Clean up safari by closing old tabs and deleting bookmarks.

Another culprit for forgetting data-hogging iPhone space is Safari. Opening new tabs with each link can lead to hundreds of forgotten tabs. Thankfully, iOS has a few tricks that make cleaning up those old tabs take just a few taps.

  • Clean up old Safari tabs by following this guide . The gist: Open the tab view, long press one thumbnail and select Close Other Tabs.
  • Set Safari to automatically delete unused tabs, so you don't get another backlog. Head to Settings > Safari > Close Tabs and choose to close old tabs after either a day, a week, or a month.
  • Clear out unneeded bookmarks. Open Safari > Bookmarks icon > Edit . Then, tap the red minus icon to quickly remove items from your bookmarks or reading list.

Clean up old emails and texts.

I'm guilty of letting my unread email count creep well past the hundreds, but I now try to delete all the junk on a weekly basis to avoid missing an important message. iOS has a few tools to clean up the communication clutter without deleting one email at a time. And, if you download an app for mass unsubscribing junk mail, you can keep those numbers from quickly creeping back up.

  • Delete lots of emails quickly by opening up the email app, then tap Edit > Select All . Go through and unselect any emails that you want to save, then hit the trash button.
  • Consider downloading an app to unsubscribe from junk mail. I use Unroll.Me to quickly unsubscribe from any mass email lists. It's much simpler than unsubscribing the manual by clicking the link at the bottom of each email.
  • Delete old text messages that you no longer need. You can do this in a similar process to deleting emails -- open the Messages app, tap on Edit > Select Messages . Then, select the ones you no longer need and tap Delete.
  • Use iOS 17's new tool to automatically delete two-factor authentication messages by following this guide .

Perform a privacy check-up

The annual spring clean-up is a good time to double-check your privacy settings and ensure that no unnecessary apps are using your information. iOS has a built-in tool for this called Safety Check. Head to Settings > Privacy & Security > Safety Check . Your iPhone will walk you through the process.

Physically clean the outside of your phone

Scrubbing your iPhone clean of old apps and emails feels great -- but what about the physical exterior of your phone? As often as our phones are in our hands, the devices can get dirty pretty quickly. In fact, you probably want to clean your phone more than once a year during spring cleaning. The question is, how do you disinfect an iPhone without destroying it? Thankfully, Apple lists just what's safe to use when cleaning an iPhone.

First, remove any cases and wash them separately. Dirt build-up inside a case can lead to scratches on your device, so it's a good idea to clean the case both inside and out. Silicon and plastic cases can be soaked in warm water with dish soap and scrubbed with a clean toothbrush. Leather and wood should never be soaked and instead should be cleaned with a slightly camp cloth. Make sure the case, including the microfiber lining, is fully dry before putting it back on your iPhone.

For the phone itself, Apple recommends wiping clean with a lint-free cloth such as a lens cloth used for glasses and screens. This works well for regular cleaning.

For a deeper clean, or, if you did the unthinkable and let your iPhone slip right out of your pocket and into a toilet, disinfecting is in order. Apple recommends using a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe -- you can usually find these in the first aid section at a grocery store or pharmacy. Or, Apple says Clorox disinfecting wipes are also okay, but be sure to get the kind without the abrasive scrubbing materials embedded into the cloth.

Never put moisture in the iPhone's ports or speaker openings. If you have a build-up in these openings, follow our guide to clean an iPhone speaker or clear out an iPhone port .

SOLVED - Headphones icon missing in Chatgpt app

To restore the headphones icon in the iPhone app go to Settings > ChatGPT > Toggle the microphone setting to off then on. You should be good to go!

This method did not work for me. The app continues to be text only.

It is still missing and the app is working only by text not interactive voice

Why is this marked as SOLVED? It is NOT solved, at least not on Android. It seems to me they just removed the functionality but they’re not being transparent about it.

I have a Samsung Note 20 ultra and also the same problem on the latest iPad Pro 13 inch. No headphone icons sometimes it comes on then suddenly disappears again and logging off sometimes brings something then it is gone again uninstalling reinstalling also does nothing delete the complete cash the phone restart your iPad also does nothing. I don’t understand why this problem is marked as solved here although there are countless users who have this problem - like me!!!

I installed chat gtp 3 days ago on iPhone. I enjoyed the headphone icon for language learning. Then yesterday it wasn’t there? Nothing has worked- what’s changes?

I tried re installing app / toggle microphone etc??? What’s going on

Same problem here. It was working just fine until last week. Now the headphone is gone.

the problem is with the permissions, once you set the proper permissions the button appears again
