What’s the movie about? The action movie is about Aquaman (Jason Momoa), whose real name is Arthur Curry. But his half brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) has other plans: He wants to unite all six kingdoms of the seas and fight against the people who pollute the oceans. Aquaman tries to stop his half brother together with Mera (Amber Heard). For this it is necessary that Aquaman finds the trident of the first king of Atlantis. Josh Kiszka: The Voice Behind Aquaman’s Safari Song

Josh Kiszka is the lead singer of the American rock band Greta Van Fleet, which has been compared to Led Zeppelin for its classic rock sound. He is also the writer and composer of the song “Safari Song”, which was featured in the 2018 superhero film Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa.

How Josh Kiszka Got Involved in Aquaman

According to IMDb, Josh Kiszka wrote “Safari Song” with his bandmates Daniel Robert Wagner, Samuel Kiszka, and Jake Kiszka. The song was released as part of their debut EP Black Smoke Rising in 2017, and later included in their double EP From the Fires in the same year.

The song caught the attention of Aquaman director James Wan, who was looking for a rock song to accompany a chase scene in the film. Wan said that he wanted a song that had “a lot of energy, a lot of attitude, and a lot of swagger”. He found “Safari Song” to be a perfect fit, and contacted the band to ask for their permission to use it.

I Totally Forgot That Greta Van Fleet’s ‘Safari Song’ Plays in ‘Aquaman’

Mid-Michigan's own Greta Van Fleet is red hot right now. They're everywhere -- the radio, the Grammys, SNL, and even the DCEU.

I saw 'Aquaman' in theaters on opening night. It was an action-packed, non-stop thrill ride the entire time. This movie somehow keeps throwing everything at the screen, including the kitchen sink, until you have every kitchen sink in the world piled up on top of you... I mean that in the best way possible. I imagine that's why I forgot that Greta Van Fleet's music is featured prominently in the film.

I was very surprised to hear GVF's 'Safari Song' featured in a bar scene that was maybe 20 minutes into the movie. I was thrilled that the local boys got such a big needle drop in a funny part of the biggest DCEU movie thus far. I remember telling myself, "ooh, I gotta mention this on the website tomorrow," but then the movie spent the next 2 hours giving us literally all the things and I forgot until right now.

I'm not kidding. Here is a list of random things that appear in 'Aquaman' after the montage set to Greta Van Fleet's 'Safari Song'... and obviously -- there are kind of spoilers below:

This movie had everything and it was so much fun. Even if you haven't seen it, the aforementioned things aren't really spoilers. So much happens that it's almost an unspoilable movie. It just crazy that someone pulled off the impossible task of making an Aquaman movie cool, while simultaneously making every kind of movie at once. I can't wait to see it four or five more times.

It's also unbelievably cool for Greta Van Fleet. I remember playing 'Highway Song' on our old local rock show The Flint Town Throwdown  way back in 2013. Don't quote me on this, but I believe that was the first time they were played on the radio. Now that they're megastars, it was pretty cool to bump into the boys from Frankenmuth again as they joined me in the DCEU.

Yes, you read that right. It was not a typo. I'm in the DCEU too. I'm canon. Have I not mentioned that I appeared in two of the ten highest-grossing movies of 2016 at least 48 times before? Just in case I haven't -- I was in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Martha Justice' and 'Suicide Squad.'  No big deal. Batman is my friend. It's chill.

Ridiculous humblebrags aside, I'd like to congrats to Greta Van Fleet on all of their well-deserved success. Welcome to the DCEU, boys. By the way, did you guys get paid? I'm not getting any residual checks from either of the movies I was in. Can you ask your contact at Warner Bros. about that? Thanks.

What are the songs in the aquaman movie.

The Aquaman movie uses more licensed songs than the average superhero movie, so from Roy Orbison to Skylar Grey, we've got fans covered.

Aquaman may set a new level of visual spectacle for the DCEU, but the selection of licensed songs and music used in the movie make it an exception among superhero blockbusters. And sure to send moviegoers in a race to add some of the songs to their favorite playlist.

It's rare that a comic book movie will send people out of the theater wondering where they can listen to "Mera's Song," the new Skylar Grey track, or even one of Roy Orbison's songs re-imagined as a Disney-esque love ballad. Such songs are often found being used in movie trailers, but rarely do full, lyrical songs punctuate a comic story as loudly and clearly as Aquaman director James Wan has chosen to. And for those wanting to know what songs are used in the Aquaman movie, we've got you covered.

"Sæglópur" by Sigur Ros

Even if it's sung in Icelandic, there's a good chance that the music chosen to back Tom Curry and Atlanna's love story will sound familiar. The track is titled "Sæglópur" by the Icelandic group Sigur Rós, first released back in 2006 (from the album Takk ), and was widely used in marketing for Prince of Persia , and the season one finale of  Sense8 . And believe it or not, the choice of song adds several layers to the scenes it accompanies.

For starters, the title roughly translates to "lost at sea" or "lost seafarer," which could be used to describe both Tom Curry and the Arthur, both before and after Atlanna came crashing into their lives. What's more, while most of the song is performed in Icelandic, sections also rely on "Hopelandic," a made-up language used by the band, which matches the film's idea of opposed and completely unknown cultures perfectly.

"Ocean to Ocean" by Pitbull (Sampling "Africa" by Toto)

No use of licensed music is going to come as a bigger surprise than when Arthur and Mera make their escape from Atlantis in the mouth of a whale, and come to shore west of the Sahara Desert. Strolling in slow motion out of the waves to the pounding sound of Pitbull and a new cover of Toto's "Africa" isn't exactly the kind of visual and audio experience superhero blockbuster fans expect - but somehow, it works.

"She's a Mystery to Me" by Roy Orbison

Once Arthur and Mera are finished solving the mystery of the Deserter tribe, they return to the coastline of Sicily for a sequence that could be plucked from any modern Disney movie. But the song that plays as Mera discovers the beauty of the surface - and Arthur discovers the beauty of  Mera - is no orchestral number. It's Roy Orbison's "She's a Mystery to Me." A song that was actually written by Bono and The Edge of U2, after the former dreamed of it the night before meeting Orbison after a London concert. The tone fits beautifully for Arthur and Mera, and James Wan confirmed to us it's one of his favorites in the film:

That’s just my sensibility I guess. One of my favorite uses of existing music is the Roy Orbison track for when they’re having that sweet, nice, romantic moment through the Italian market and she’s sort of getting used to the surface world. I loved that piece of music.

"It's No Good" by Depeche Mode

Technically, it's Aquaman's fault that he burned himself into the life and memory of Black Manta, by indirectly killing his father in the opening act of the movie. Manta swore to get his revenge for the act, and fate all but confirmed his path when King Orm dropped a cache of Atlantean weapons in his lap, with a request that he kill the would-be ruler of Atlantis. The tech needs some work before it can become as cool as Black Manta's in the comics, and to do it, the villain turns to - what else? - a montage.

The music supplied for the scene is Depeche Mode's "It's No Good," and the lyrics actually add to the revenge (albeit in defiance of the less-than-vengeful style of music). The claims that "I'm going to take my time/ I have all the time in the world" fits a revenge scheme as much as a love ballad, as well as the promise that "You can run but you cannot hide." Is it also an elaborate joke courtesy of James Wan, since the last verse states that you "can't turn back the tide" ? There's no way to know for sure.

"Everything I Need" by Skylar Grey

The end credits for Wonder Woman treated movie audiences to an original song by Sia, titled "To Be Human," and for fans of current sensations, Aquaman doesn't disappoint either. This time around audiences will be able to hear Skylar Grey's "Everything I Need," but the song is sprinkled through the movie long before - even if the viewers have never heard it enough to notice. James Wan explains:

Skylar Grey wrote the ending and the love song theme that we use throughout the movie. Skylar wrote that beautiful song, and then we use that and pepper it throughout the whole film as like the love theme for Mera and Arthur throughout the film. Kind of like what [James] Cameron did with Titanic, right? You know, you have Celine Dion singing the song, but then you hear that theme played throughout the whole film.

Yes, you read that right, Pitbull tackled Toto’s “Africa.” Take that, Weezer!

Technically, the song is titled “Ocean to Ocean,” but the chorus (and some of the background instrumental) is pure Toto, with some ample support from Rhea.

“The ocean, the sea and any body of water, to me, is true freedom,” said Armando Christian Perez (Pitbull) in a statement. “The ocean has always been the border from where my parents came from Cuba and the United States, which gives us freedom. That’s why I respect water. Bottom line: water gives us freedom.”

“Writing the themes for the different characters was awesome,” Gregson-Williams said. “Arthur Curry has such a strong character—he’s a real rock star—so I felt he deserved a big melody. He gets to rock out for certain intense moments too. Orm is Atlantean, and the score I wrote for Atlantis is in big contrast to the score for the surface world, epic and glorious. Black Manta inspired a more industrial, electronic feel. And, of course, there’s romance—two in fact. Atlantis and the entire world James created is truly amazing, giving me such a rich opportunity.”
