The second way is to trekking through the tree-lined trails, learn about the ecosystem there. This is usually accompanied by local guides or forest rangers. We recommend you go with the second way because you will have time to immerse yourself in beautiful nature.

Trekking Phu Quoc National Park

Because the road is difficult to travel in Phu Quoc National Park, and still wild, with the desire to preserve the integrity of nature, trekking is always the best choice.

phu quoc national park

Trekking in Phu Quoc National Park gives you great feelings if you are a nature and photography lover. This is an exciting experience because you will encounter giant ancient trees, rare species of plants, and beautiful scenes of desolate nature. How great it is when you have the opportunity to explore the primeval vegetation!

And of course, if you are a new visitor to Phu Quoc for the first time, trekking in the national park should go with a guide or forest specialist for guidance to fully discover the nature and beauty of the forest, especially avoid getting lost.

> Please check the forest survival skills when lost in a tropical jungle .

Conquering Mount Heaven Phu Quoc

Conquering Mount Heaven Phu Quoc on the range of Ham Ninh will be a very attractive challenge when participating in Phu Quoc tours.

You will walk through tropical forests, valleys, and streams to reach Heaven Mountain with an altitude of 565m, which is considered the roof of the island.

From the top of the mountain, you can zoom out into the distance, observing all the beauty of the island. It is the village, the sea, and the primeval forest of Phu Quoc National Park.

In the distance is An Thoi archipelago, and Hai Tac island. The feeling of standing in the air at the top of Heaven Mount will be an unforgettable experience for you when traveling to Phu Quoc.

Please note that when exploring Heaven mountain, you should wear suitable clothes for trekking: a pair of sports shoes, and lightweight comfortable clothes, bring little food and drinking water. And, you should go in groups with a local guide.

Swim in the stream of the national park

Besides the mountains, forests, and the coast, Phu Quoc National Park also has beautiful streams, typically Tranh Stream, Da Ngon waterfall, and Da Ban stream.

stream in phu quoc national park

As for Tranh stream and Da Ban stream, you should go in the rainy season because in the dry season, these streams are dry and there is no running water.

But don’t worry, Phu Quoc National Park also has a beautiful 7-storey Da Ngon stream like a fairyland flowing all year round, from day to night without tiring. This is also one of the most beautiful streams on pearl island.

Da Ngon stream has wonderful beauty like a fairyland. This is a great place to bathe in streams and enjoy nature with your family.

Pro tip: when swimming or walking at wet stones, you need to go slowly and mind your steps carefully to avoid falling down.

Explore phu quoc national park wildlife

Called a national park, the wildlife in Phu Quoc National Park is extremely rich. When trekking in the forest, you can go slower down to explore old trees and animals on low mountainous terrain.

an old tree in phu quoc national park

You can easily come across large species of big trees, precious and beautiful orchids, as well as rare herbs such as ha thu o, licorice, peas, etc.

Birds and animals are still there, but it is hard to see them. You need to follow the forest rangers and get more time to wait to see these animals off the beaten tracks.

Wildlife will be the top thing to do when going back to nature. At the National Park Phu Quoc, the natural jungle is waiting for you.

Taking pictures of nature

Surely, the trip is indispensable for beautiful photos to bring back.

national park in phu quoc

If you are an enthusiast of landscape and nature photography, a journey to Phu Quoc National Park cannot be complete without a camera.

Lots of opportunities for you are to create beautiful photos with nature or record the activities of wild animals as you are lucky to encounter.

And always remember to bring backup batteries, good lenses to be able to focus on beautiful scenes or distant butterflies, which you can’t get close to.

Notes when conquering Phu Quoc National Park

Like exploring other national parks in Vietnam, you need to read the general regulations of the park before entering any forest.

If you trek, you need to equip yourself with comfortable clothes, especially sport shoes. Besides, it is necessary to prepare a small amount of food, snacks, and drinking water.

If you travel with a motorbike, you need to fill up with gas and wear protective clothing. You should hire a local to ride you around.

Bring some medicines and medical supplies, just in case, typically repelling insect spray, and anti-mosquito spray.

Conquer National Park of Phu Quoc is suitable for group travel of friends, avoid going alone.

During the journey, always prioritize caution and safety. It is better to follow the instruction of the local guide.

If you travel in the forest in the afternoon, carry a thin raincoat will be a good thing to escape sudden rain.

3 Island Snorkel, Cable Car & Waterpark!

We had an absolutely incredible time on this jam-packed tour when we were in Phu Quoc. It literally comes with everything you need; snorkelling, swimming, beaches, lunch, waterpark, and the world’s longest cable car. Check it out in the video below or book right here!

The BEST PHU QUOC TOUR: Snorkelling, Waterpark + Cable Car!

The Best Phu Quoc Tours

There is so mstuch to do in Phu Quoc and so many Phu Quoc tours that it can be a little daunting to know which companies to trust and which tours to jump on. From snorkelling and jeep tours to the longest cable car in the world and discovering unique secret beaches, Phu Quoc has it all.

This guide will go through our personal favourites and towards the end of the guide, we will list the best accommodation options for varying budgets to make the most of the free pick-up included with a lot of these Phu Quoc tours. Remember to click through to the tours as there is so much more information waiting on the other side!

Snorkelling Tours

Take one of the following boats and get in amongst the incredible coral and sealife that surrounds the Phu Quoc islands!

Greatever Snorkel Set

We all know how frustrating it can be to hire snorkels from local vendors as the quality tends to be below par, or they just immediately fog up. We have chosen the Greatever snorkel set due to its affordability, face fit, and anti-fog attributes, which all combined make for an excellent addition to your luggage!

Small Group Adventure Snorkelling

This small group adventure snorkelling tour with OnBird is one of the best Phu Quoc tours for snorkelling. This is a small group of 6-8 people which I believe is the best way to save money over a private tour but also not get the negatives of a huge group.

You will visit at least two of the most famous reefs near Phu Quoc which will be made even more enjoyable with the in-water guides who are there to ensure safety and point out key features and wildlife in the reef.

Key Information

  • Tour Duration: 6 Hours
  • Pickup Included: Yes (additional charge)
  • Age Suitable For : Any Age (1 Under 12 free)
  • Underwater Guide?: Yes
  • Start Time: 7:30 am OR 12:30 pm

Premium 4 Island Snorkelling Trip

This 4 island snorkelling trip absolutely blows me away with its price. 12 is still a relatively small amount of people and with this Phu Quoc tour you get 2 snorkelling stops (the usual amount), 2 beach/island stops and you also get lunch (with alcoholic beverages) included!

I am not surprised by the huge amount of 5-star reviews they have had and I can see this being one of, if not the best, Phu Quoc snorkelling tour there is. Click through to have a look at the reviews and images in more detail.

  • Tour Duration: 7 Hours
  • Pickup Included: Yes (included in price)
  • Age Suitable For : Any Age
  • Underwater Guide?: No
  • Start Time: 8:30 am
  • Lunch Included: Yes

Private Adventure Snorkelling

This private snorkelling tour is the most expensive of the three snorkelling Phu Quoc tours I have recommended but for good reason, it is completely private. The price changes depending on the group size so if you have a very large group there will be some savings to be made!

Apart from this, it is very similar to the tours above, you will go to multiple snorkelling locations and have an in-water guide to either teach newbies or guide the group around the best spots in the reefs. This is the best option if you simply have to have that private tour experience.

  • Tour Duration: 6-8 Hours
  • Pickup Included: Yes
  • Age Suitable For: All
  • Start Time: 12:30

Phu Quoc is a relatively small island with lots to see and do off the coast. This is why boat tours are some of the best Phu Quoc tours available. We believe the first tour in this list might be the best tour in all of Phu Quoc so make sure to have a read and follow the links for availability and price!

3 Island, Waterpark and Cable Car Tour

This incredible tour starts with you going down to the harbour with hotel pick-up included and from there you visit a gorgeous reef for snorkelling or swimming. The snorkel equipment that was provided was some of the best we have ever had anywhere in the world.

Then you make your way over to the second island where you have lunch on board the boat. The lunch was a pretty decent spread of seafood and vegetable dishes which I rate quite highly.

After lunch, you make your way over to the island where there is a gorgeous white sand beach with a bar where you can grab a beer and relax on the beach for a short time.

An island you can visit on our recommended phu quoc tours

You then make your way over to Pineapple island where you will be bussed off to the incredible water world away park where you have a short time to run around the park trying to get on as many slides and rides as you can.

Finally, you make your way back to the main island on the incredible Phu Quoc cable car which is the longest in the entire world and boasts some of the most incredible views of Phu Quoc.

The cable car that is part of so many of these Phu Quoc tours

As you can see, this tour is extremely dense with activities and it is very fast-paced. If you only have a short amount of time on Phu Quoc then this is absolutely the best of all the Phu Quoc tours. If you have a little more time then maybe book multiple tours so you can spend a bit more time doing each activity.

  • Tour Duration: 8 Hours
  • Age Suitable For: Any
  • Tour Pace: Fast

3 Island Hopping Boat Tour

This tour is by the same provider above (John’s yours) and is basically the same tour but without the stop at the waterpark and the cable car. This may be perfect for you, especially if you don’t like heights or waterparks are not really your thing.

It is also the same length as the tour above (8 hours) which means that each stop is much more relaxed and you have more time to experience and enjoy each activity. If this sounds like more your thing then be sure to check it out right here.

  • Tour Pace: Medium

Sight Seeing Phu Quoc Tours

There is absolutely loads to do in Phu Quoc that does not require a boat to get to. The following Phu Quoc tours are the best sightseeing tours in Phu Quoc that are all land-based. They are perfect for exploring the array of things to do on the mainland as well as for people who are not the best on boats (poor Jade did struggle on the boat tours we went on).

The North By US Army Jeep

This company uses authentic US Army jeeps that were left after the Vietnam war to explore the wild north of Phu Quoc Island. If that hasn’t piqued your interest then I don’t know what will! (you can do this tour in a modern jeep if you would rather, just speak to the provider at the time of booking).

You start by making your way up to the Ganh Dau border where you can see Cambodia around 4km off the coast. After that, you’ll make your way through the jungle where you will have the opportunity to take a walk as well as drive to see the incredible scenery.

The tour continues with a stop at a fishing village, a secluded beach and a pepper farm before returning to the hotel. This is a one-of-a-kind experience in Phu Quoc and I highly recommend checking it out right here.

  • Start Time: Flexible

Sightseeing The South

This is probably the most rammed tour of all the Phu Quoc tours on this list. If you want to see the south of mainland Phu Quoc then this is the tour for you.

  • Sim Wine Factory
  • Pepper Farm
  • Fishing Village
  • Ho Quoc Pagoda
  • Coconut Prison
  • Fish Sauce Factory

Suffice it to say that this tour is going to be fast-paced. A lot of these options have a shopping vibe to them and the prices will be inflated over other places on the island. However, if you are looking to grab some souvenirs and see all of the best sights in the south then this is the tour for you.

  • Start Time: 9:00 am

Highlights Of The South

I know this is the second highlight of the south Phu Quoc tour on this list but it’s slightly different and may appeal to a different audience. The tour above properly focuses on the mainland and shopping opportunities whereas this tour gives you much more time for the more active, family-orientated activities.

It does start with visits to the pearl farm, Ho Quoc Pagoda and Pineapple prison but it finishes with visits to Sao Beach, the cable car AND the Watertopia aquapark. Both tours are brilliant so choose whichever suits you or your group the most!

Private North & South Tour

This private entire island tour by John’s Tours is a great tour to jump on if you are really limited to time or you have left it the last day to book something. If there’s a group of 4 of you then it also works out to be very cost-effective (the price is per group, up to 4).

This is where you will visit on this hyper-packed Phu Quoc tour;

  • Pepper farm
  • Sim Wine factory
  • Ham Ninh Fishing Village
  • Tranh stream
  • Bee Farm National park
  • Ganh Dau: view Cambodia
  • Nguyen Trung Truc temple
  • Vũng bầu beach OR starfish beach
  • Dinh Cau temple
  • Pickup Included: Offered
  • Tour Pace: Extreme

Resorts Tours

There are a few huge resorts and parks in Phu Quoc which are not to be missed. In this section, you will be able to arrange admission tickets and, in some cases, transfers to the resorts if required. Remember to always click through to have a look at prices and availability!

Sun World Hon Thom

Sun world on the southern island (Hon Thom) is home to a fantastic water park and theme park which is a definite must-book whilst planning your Phu Quoc tours.

We visited the waterpark towards the end of the tour we went on (check the video towards the end) and we were absolutely blown away by the quality.

This booking will enable you to pre-book your admission ticket to Sun World and this includes the cable car to the island and the return journey. When you consider what you are actually getting with this then I believe this is one of the best deals I have ever experienced.

Vinpearl Safari Park

A very highly rated safari park and zoo with large enclosures for the animals. This is a fantastic activity for families and animal lovers alike. Klook has a cool video to check it out in more detail so be sure to have a look at that here.

Vinwonders Park

Another one of the best Phu Quoc tours for families, this will get you entrance to the excellent VinWonders theme park. As you can see, quite a few of the attractions in Phu Quoc are run by VinPearl and this means that you can get combi-tickets which include multi-day entrances to all of their resorts. If you are interested in more than one of the VinPearl activities then be sure to check that out.

Accommodation For Phu Quoc Tours

Many of the Phu Quoc tours in this list say that they include hotel pickup, however, in most cases, this is only from select locations. You will not be getting pickup if you are staying in the far north of the island for the majority of these tours. The following 3 accommodation options are some of our favourites in Phu Quoc and should all qualify for free pickup when included!

FINE9 HOSTEL

If you need a hostel then this is the one to get! Cheap, clean, quality rooms and is right in the middle of Duong Dong town. Picture the perfect hostel in your head, put it in the ideal location and this is it.

Green Tree Hotel

Just a few minutes drive down the coast, the Green Tree hotel is a very good option if you are looking for something a step up from a hostel. It boasts a gorgeous swimming pool, restaurant and bar to make your stay perfect.

Salinda Resort

I always go to write something about these 5* properties and revert to just saying ‘check out the resort by clicking through the button below’. My words are usually not enough to describe the beauty of these accommodation options.

Osprey Daylite Plus Backpack

Jade has used this backpack throughout the world on our travels and we have both been very impressed with the design. It comfortably holds a 3L water reservoir in the specifically designed pouch and contours very nicely over your back to distribute the weight well. I have always had a full camera bag so Jade usually has to take enough for two people which it can do. It's a very reasonable price for a very good day pack.

Phu Quoc Tours, Island Packages & Day Trips from Saigon 2023-2024

Located in the prime location in the Gulf of Thailand, 60km west of Ha Tien and 15km south of the coast of Cambodia, Phu Quoc Island has been becoming one of the most-visited destinations in Vietnam.

Endowed with white-sand stunning beaches, turquoise sea and with large tracts still cloaked in dense, tropical jungle, the tear-shaped Phu Quoc Island saw a significant transformation from a sleepy island backwater to an ideal beach escape for Western expats and sun-seeking tourists. Phu Quoc tours allow you to explore and escape from your ups and downs of your life. Dive the reefs, kayak in the bays, eat up the back-road miles on a motorbike, or just leisurely lie on the beach, indulge in a massage and pamper yourself with freshly-caught seafood.

Núi Đá Bạc Mountain Trekking Guide, Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam

Núi Đá Bạc Mountain Trek | Phu Quoc Island

First published January 2022 | Words and photos by Vietnam Coracle

A fun and rewarding hike to the top of one of the jungle-clad escarpments lining Phu Quoc’s eastern flank, trekking up Núi Đá Bạc mountain offers stupendous views and is yet another way to explore the island’s beautiful interior. This hike is a wonderful way to spend a morning or afternoon: providing some physical exertion, excellent photo opportunities, lots of nature, and a side of Phu Quoc Island that few people experience. The Núi Đá Bạc mountain trek is further proof that Phu Quoc Island is much more than just a beach destination.

GUIDE: NUI ĐA BAC TREK , PHU QUOC

A Mountain Hike with Panoramic Views

This fabulous hike takes between 2-3 hours round-trip depending on your pace and how long you spend gawping at the views from the two boulder-capped peaks. The trek can be undertaken independently, without a guide (I’ve done my best to describe the route in detail below). However, the trailhead can be difficult to find and so too can the two spectacular view points at the top. Therefore, you might consider hiring a guide. You can try contacting Pierre (0776 830 072) or enquire at nearby Cây Sao Beach Resort , although I can’t personally vouch for either. The best months are the dry season (November to May). From June to October, frequent rains make the trail slippery and treacherous. The hike should be possible for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. Bring water, sunscreen, insect repellent, a picnic for the top, and wear decent shoes. After the trek, cool off in the ocean and reward yourself with a cocktail and food at Kiki Coconut on the sand beneath the palms. Combine the two and you have all the ingredients for a great day out. Núi Đá Bạc trek, Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam

Trekking to Núi Đá Bạc Peak

Difficulty: moderate | Time: 2-3 hours | Entry: free | Guide: optional

[ View Map ]

The trail begins on the east coast road, about half way between Cây Sao Beach Resort and Vaniza Resort . On the inland side of the road, look for a long concrete and stone wall, about two metres high, wrapping around the property of a small, blue farmhouse. I’ve marked it on my map here , and there’s a photo below. If you have a motorbike or bicycle, you can leave it beneath the tree next to the blue farmhouse (the family will charge you 10,000vnd per bike).

The trailhead itself begins at the southern-most limit of the farm’s walled enclosure, where a fence blocks the way to a concrete lane leading uphill. Climb the fence and head up the concrete lane, running parallel to the fence. Follow the lane straight up for about a hundred metres until it starts to turn toward the right. At this point, leave the concrete lane and walk directly ahead into the jungle. There’s a clear frontier where the plantations and farmland end and the jungle begins. Using the straight concrete lane that you’ve just walked up as your line of entry (perhaps just a little to the right), walk directly into the trees and you should see a small, narrow, but unmistakable path leading beneath the trees and into the brush. (Note that the trekking route marked on my map is only approximate.)

Farmhouse at the beginning of the Núi Đá Bạc trek, Phu Quoc Island

The path is very occasionally marked with red paint on rocks and tree trunks, but it’s not much help. However, it definitely is possible to follow the trail all the way to the top without getting lost and without a guide, but you do need to pay attention so as not to ramble off course. Parts of the climb are pretty steep (at a couple of points there are ropes tied to trees to help hikers pull themselves up) and at times the undergrowth is dense and difficult to move through. But, the trek isn’t especially long and the level of fitness required is moderate. Watch your step, because the pathway is rocky, uneven and knotted with roots and vines. It’s humid under the thick canopy of trees, but also very shady. Most of the trees are narrow-trunked and spindly, with twisting vines tying the forest together like a spiderweb. As you start to get near the top, large boulders flank the pathway and the trees become more gnarled.

Climbing on the ropes & tree trunks, Núi Đá Bạc trek, Phu Quoc Island

Eventually, the slope levels off, and the path veers to the left, entering a clearing with two giant boulders that look like the petrified stone-trolls from Lord of the Rings. This is a good rest stop but, unless you climb the boulders (which is pretty risky), the views aren’t expansive. Instead, continue past the ‘stone-trolls’ for another couple of minutes. On the left, obscured by foliage, there’s a rocky outcrop protruding from the undergrowth on which you can stand and take in the extraordinary panorama. With the jungle canopy beneath you, the views stretch down to the east coast resorts on Cây Sao beach and all the way to the southern tip of the island. Out at sea, the Cambodian mainland is clearly visible and so too is Đảo Hải Tặc ( Pirate Islands ). As you’ll see from the images below, you obviously need to be extremely careful when standing on the rocky outcrop. (Without a guide, it may take a few minutes of searching before you find this view point.)

The 'stone-trolls' at the top of the Núi Đá Bạc trek, Phu Quoc Island

To reach the second boulder view point, head back towards the ‘stone-trolls’ and continue a bit further beyond and behind them. (Again, it can be difficult to find without a guide.) Climb up the back of one large boulder and traverse a very precarious wooden log bridge over a 5-metre-deep chasm to another boulder, this one exposed to the sky, affording yet more spectacular 180-degree views. From here, the vistas due north over the dense, green, unbroken jungle and long spine of mountains are really impressive, reminding you that inland Phu Quoc Island is still largely in its natural state. This view point is much larger and more spacious that the other, making it the perfect place for a ‘peak picnic’ before heading back down the mountain again.

Update to Phu Quoc, Nui Bac Mountain

Unfortunately, the described route to the Nui Bac is now closed, as we found out in December 2022 and again in April 2023. The former access, which was still inviting and open on the website – is blocked with barbed wire. We spoke to both the property owner (who used to act as a guide for this tour) and one of the rangers who maintain the trails on the island and their response was that this is a permanent closure, the community doesn’t want it a path that starts so close to the coast. Regrettable!

The search for detours is followed suspiciously by the property owner and above all by several dogs and cannot be recommended.

There are, however, numerous other hikes in Phu Quoc, not only to Tien Son Peak and to the springs (see Vietnam Coracle ebsite), but also to peaks such as K7 and God’s Mountain (the latter with a guide). In addition, there are some fantastic paths through the jungle in the national park in the Bai Thom region, some of which – on bamboo stairs – go down to the coast.

Andreas and Tuyet

phu quoc jungle tour

Hi Andreas & Tuyet,

Thank you for the update. Yes, the main entrance has always been blocked (as mentioned in the overview on the page above), but if you walk beyond the wall and into the brush, you can find places to get over and then find the trailhead into the forest. It’s not easy, but it can be done. It’s a shame that the island does not want to encourage this hike. I hope they change their mind about that, because other independent hikes on the island are proving to be very popular with visitors.

Hi Tom its Jamie from Kiki coconut. Unfortunately now there is a gate in place at the entrance that is padlock so currently unable to enter, so i redirect many to the other hike nearby that you have listed.

Hi Jamie, good to year from you.

Thanks for the update and for redirecting people to the Dinh Tien Son Peak hike instead.

However, that gate has always been locked. You should be able to access the trail by walking behind the little house on the road (the same house where you can park your bike under the tree). It’s a little tricky at first, but then you climb a wall and you’re at the trailhead. Perhaps the people in the house could offer directions to get to the trailhead.

Tom thanks for notes – they were super helpful. Entry now harder a lots of barbed wire. I came in the Google maps entry at lotus homes & followed a wall up to the forest. I then went straight up & climbed / scrambled the cliffs – not recommended unless you’re comfortable scrambling. I came back via the path then went got to small rope at the top of bottom of the forest I traversed back to the wall – this seemed much easier then trying to go down via barbed wire fence.

Glad you enjoyed the hike. Yes, it can be tricky to get to the initial trailhead. If anyone is having difficulty, you can go to the little house under the tree by the road where you can park your motorbikes (as suggested in the guide and on the map) and ask them to point you in the right direction.

Thanks to this post we went there did the hike which was pretty cool. The beginning is now (end of 2022) a bit trickier to find than it used to be.

Thanks, Killian.

Yes, it’s a bit difficult to get to the trailhead, but you can always ask the people at the local house for directions.

Phu Quoc — Vietnam’s best kept secret?

For those wanting to combine a thirst for adventure with a desire for luxury, you can’t go far wrong with the Regent Phu Quoc .

Situated off the tourist trail on Vietnam ’s Phu Quoc island, this new resort is the Regent brand’s flagship property and knows it: this place is staffed to the brim, immaculately trendy and with acres of sunlit daybeds simply begging to be used. In other words, paradise.

Phu Quoc is perhaps Vietnam’s best kept secret: a tiny, secluded island far to the west, just off the Thai coastline. With resplendent white-sand beaches , miles of blue ocean and a tropical climate to die for, Phu Quoc is a tourist destination on the up.

Though the entire place is slowly being devoured by high-rise hotel developments, they don’t come much nicer – or more luxurious – than the Regent Phu Quoc.

Situated on the southern tip of island’s dreamy west coast (and fully open to the public since April this year), the Regent is pure wish fulfilment at the highest level, boasting multiple restaurants, stellar staff and gorgeous views. Everything needed, in other words, for a long relaxing break.

Every square metre of this place screams relaxation. It’s minimalist in the extreme, designed to blend into the natural landscape: think artfully tended pools of water frothing with koi fish, black stone walkways and glass walls giving out onto jungle and ocean. At the ocean-side itself, hammocks and daybeds perch just by the sea, inviting you to drop in and spend a few hours.

The stand-alone villas are low-rise and discreet, there’s greenery everywhere and calming music plays as you walk down the shaded pathway to the hotel’s restaurant area. Breathe in and feel your blood pressure drop.

Food & drink

The Regent boasts three restaurants that span the gamut between Mediterranean and Vietnamese.

Top of the list is Rice Market: the main one of the bunch, which offers a breakfast that truly has to be seen to be believed. Picture whole rooms dedicated to baking, cold cheeses and meats; there are fruits galore, gallons of coffee and even a station to try traditional Vietnamese pho (noodle soup); basically, it’s the adult’s version of a sweet shop.

For lunch and dinner, it offers up Chinese-Vietnamese fusion food including Wagyu beef salad (ridiculously melt-in-the-mouth), fried rices and all the noodles you could eat: delicious, but a tad heavy on the stomach for those who have overindulged at breakfast.

Not to worry: Ocean Club, situated as it is right by the sea, serves up the Mediterranean, fish-centric food of dreams. I drooled over the butter-slathered lobster roll, and the pan-fried squid with homemade sriracha sauce and fennel salad was indecently good (as was the homemade pasta strewn with freshly-seared beef and capers). We topped it all off with a coconut panna cotta that melted on the tongue like chocolate: delicious.

There is one more restaurant, the beef-centric Oku (it serves up Japanese-French cuisine dedicated to all things meat), but it was closed the days we were there – more’s the pity.

And should you feel a tad antisocial, don’t worry: the hotel also offers a (huge) Floating Champagne Breakfast that will be delivered to your room in the morning. Why floating? The whole thing comes in a wicker basket that will bob around on the surface of your pool. Perfect for sitting back, cracking open a book and eating your way through the morning.

With all that to contend with, do also make time to visit the resort’s two bars: Bar Jade (which was closed at the time we visited), which offers more of a speakeasy vibe, and Fu Bar. Situated poolside on the tenth floor, we sipped our cocktails and watched the sun go down in style. Yum.

Anything you want, the Regent has. There’s a gym, stacked with top of the range equipment; there’s even morning yoga at 7am on the top floor. There’s a beautiful little spa tucked away at the bottom of the hotel, surrounded by running water, which offers treatments ranging from crystal bowl quartz meditation to pedicures and Alpha Quartz Sand Cocoon Therapy (which is what I had: basically, a massage on a bed of hot sand that managed to be both sweaty and relaxing).

And pools? There are pools aplenty – the huge Family Pool down by the Ocean Club lets you relax on daybeds shaded by palm trees, but our favourites had to be the infinity pools on the hotel’s two rooftops. Situated on the tenth floor, they gave onto the open sky and made us feel like rock stars.

There’s even a yacht, for which you can book a sunset tour excursion for around 4 million Vietnamese dong (or £120). The views were spectacular and the on-board catering was spot-on. Champagne on the open ocean: the stuff dreams are made of.

Extracurricular

There isn’t actually a whole lot to do on Phu Quoc, thanks to the island’s reputation as an off-the-beaten-track kind of place — and the Regent’s excellent service means you probably won’t want to leave.

That said, those thinking of heading out face a short drive to one of the island’s famous seafood markets for some of the freshest fish in Vietnam. Duong Dong’s busy night market offers grills, vegetarian food and coconut ice-cream to gorge on (follow the local crowds for the best seats).

Outside of Duong Dong, Phu Quoc is also an excellent place to beach-hop: try Sao Beach, Long Beach and Thom Beach to get your fill of crystalline waters and golden sand, while further inland, a trip to the huge Phu Quoc National Park demands a motorbike to be enjoyed properly (especially as there are no hiking trails).

Which room?

Every room here is gorgeous. Most have their own private pools and range from super-private villas (essentially a stand-alone house in the resort grounds) to city-living style apartments. That said, we’d especially recommend the Sky Pool Villa. Situated in one of the hotel’s three high-rise buildings, the Sky Pool Villa is an apartment that boasts its very own infinity plunge pool as well as a huge bedroom and living room panelled with glass.

The best thing about this room (apart from the massive bathroom) is the view: get a room as high up as you can, and let your eyes feast on the vista as you sip your morning Vietnamese coffee (strong and served with lashings of sweetened condensed milk). Artfully designed buildings that blend into the jungle, white sand and the ocean: yes, please.

When to go?

Though most people come in December and January, when the weather is at its best (clear skies, calm seas, not too hot), there’s something to be said for the off-season (April-May), when the Western tourists have gone and the hotel descends into a peaceful, empty solitude. It also means you’ll be able to grab some of the best rooms for better prices – a win in anybody’s book.

Couples in need of a long, relaxing break in the sun – though be prepared to splash the cash while you’re out there.

King bed ocean view suites are priced from £350 per room per night including breakfast. To find out more click here
