2 – Old Town Trolley Tours

Old Town Trolley Tours, Washington DC

Old Town Trolley Tours brings a unique charm to city exploration, thanks to the live commentary provided by its friendly and knowledgeable guides. The company offers two routes: a 15-stop sightseeing tour in Washington, DC, and a 10-stop tour of Arlington National Cemetery.

The main hop on hop off route passes by many key D.C. landmarks, including the White House and US Capitol, as well as memorials and monuments dedicated to Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King and George Washington. The loop also includes designated stops at several Smithsonian museums and typically lasts one hour and 45 minutes.

The 45-minute tour at the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery is unique to the Old Town Trolley Tours company and makes 6 stops on weekdays and 9 on weekends. Stops include the President John F. Kennedy Gravesite, The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington House, and the US Marine Corps War Memorial Iwo Jima.

There are five different Old Town Trolley Tour tickets available, with prices varying depending on the day you wish to book. Children aged 4 to 12 are entitled to a reduced price, and additional discounts are often available for online bookings. All trolleys include free Wi-Fi.

  • trolley tours in Washington DC

Both Hop on Hop off sightseeing companies offer tours with similar daytime and evening itineraries; however, they each have distinct differences.

What I really like about Big Bus Tours is that they offer two- and three-day passes, which are ideal for longer stays in Washington, DC. When coupled with perks such as the discounted bike rental, these packages offer great value and allow you to get a real feel of the city.

As for Old Town Trolley Tours, I really appreciate the live commentary, as it adds a unique flair to the experience, as well as the dedicated tour of the Arlington National Cemetery. The ability to book tours on separate days also gives greater flexibility in covering the city at your own pace.

By "Church of the Immaculate Conception" do you mean the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception? (There is a Church of the Immaculate Conception, but it's not generally a tourist attraction.) If so, be aware that the Basilica is on the opposite side of town from every other activity you've listed for 5/18. I don't think it combines well with them geographically, but if you're absolutely determined to see it, do it first instead of criss-crossing back and forth.

Thank you! Updated the name to Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Will put the route in the correct order :)

I would take Metro to the Arlington Cemetery stop, walk to the Visitor’s Center and then buy tickets for the HO/HO bus. The bus tour with stops to see the Changing of the Guard and Arlington House will take a couple hours. Yes, you could walk across Memorial Bridge to get to the cemetery, but it’s a bit of a schlep and you’ll be doing a lot of walking on this trip anyway. You might want to save your walking for when it’s necessary.

Also, remember that each if you must have a government issued photo ID (like a driver’s license or passport) to enter Arlington Cemetery.

Being that all Smithsonian are free go their website and see what interests you

Will definitely do the museums - planning for the rainy 05/18, just haven't decide which ones, but National Gallery and History Museum are my personal favorites.

The Spring Loudoun County Farm Tour is May 18 and May 19. This year there will be free shuttle buses to take you to 30-plus Virginia farms opening to the public.

The Loudoun County Department of Economic Development, which organizes the yearly fall and spring farm tours said it got great feedback after piloting a “hop on hop off” shuttle bus during last fall’s tour on a much smaller scale.

The 20-passenger “hop on hop off” shuttle buses will pick up passengers at the Ashburn Metro station throughout the day and operate on a constant loop between the towns of Leesburg, Lovettsville and Hillsboro.

“From each of the towns, you’ll be able to pick up a smaller van and go on a guided tour of anywhere from three to four farm stops, without ever having to drive your car or having to navigate,” said Colleen Kardasz, assistant director at the Loudoun County Department of Economic Development.

Shuttle buses will be on a constant loop between farms from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Farms that open to visitors are diverse, from llamas and alpacas, to those that produce honey, mushrooms and protein, as well as produce growers.

“You can go to two different garlic farms on the spring farm tour. You could go to Green Hills Nursery and learn about the tea that they are growing, and buy some green tea grown in Loudoun County. Brookfield Dairy Farm is on the tour, and they are one of the last remaining dairy farms in Loudoun. You can see their practices and also purchase some ice cream made with their dairy,” Kardasz said.

Buddy Rizer, executive director of Loudoun Economic Development, said the tour “serves as a testament to the incredible diversity of farms that call Loudoun County home.”

“Each farm offers a unique experience, reflecting the ingenuity, passion and dedication of our local farmers,” Rizer said.

Many farms will also have educational components on agricultural practices and sustainability initiatives.

Attendance for the farm tours is tough to gauge, since many farms don’t count visitors, but during the fall tour, one farm said it had 2,000 visitors, with most of the other farms recording between 200 and 500 visitors.

A list and a map of farms participating in this year’s Spring Loudoun County Farm Tour is online .

A new touring company rode into San Antonio. Here's what we know.

F or many years, tourists and locals have seen the red double-decker tour buses on the streets of downtown San Antonio. However, there's a new sheriff in town. A national touring company took over, offering all things sightseeing in now green and orange buses.

Old Town Trolley Tours debuted its San Antonio city tours in March after the City Sightseeing of San Antonio shut down earlier this year. The new trolley business operates under Historic Tours of America, the largest operator of themed sightseeing vehicles in the United States.

The tours offer guests a 90-minute narrated tour with 14 stops throughout San Antonio, such as the San Antonio Zoo, the Japanese Tea Garden, the San Antonio Botanical Garden, and the Witte Museum. I toured the new green trolleys. Here's how it went:

What happened to the double-decker buses?

Before detailing my experience, it's important to know how Old Town Trolley Tours rode into town. In 2010, David Strainge, founder of City Sightseeing of San Antonio, started the trolley company. However, he closed the business in January, leaving the attraction open.

Historic Tours of America's CEO Chris Belland said in a news release that the timing could not have been more perfect. The company bought some of the assets of City Sightseeing and began revamping for its March launch.

Belland said the company has been looking to expand and the opportunity presented itself in an "amazing city." In addition to San Antonio, Old Town Trolley Tours operates in Key West, Boston, Washington, DC, Savannah, St. Augustine, San Diego, and Nashville.

"San Antonio is a city with incredible history, attractions, sites, and fabulous people which is what we look for when going into a city," Belland said. "We could not have done this without the collaboration of David Strainge. His knowledge and reputation in the tourism community of San Antonio made this transition seamless. He has been invaluable in assisting us in entering the market."

My tour with Old Town Trolley Tours

As a local, I still learn about San Antonio occasionally, which happened while I was on a ride with Old Town Trolley Tours. The tour has 14 stops with the first location in front of the Torch of Friendship landmark. You check in and hop in at the intersection of Commerce Street and Alamo Street. Parking isn't provided but there are parking lots and meters near the first stop.

I started at the first stop but you don't have to. You can hop on and off at any stop on the tour route, which departs every 30 minutes at Alamo Square from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you take the whole route, it's about a one-hour and 40-minute tour from start to finish.

When I rode the trolley, no locals were on the bus. It was just me and MySA's content video producer Nate Rodriguez. There were people from Germany, California, Boston, and New York. Our conductor Mr. O said none of them had ever been to San Antonio. And, I believe, Mr. O, represented San Antonio very well.

As we passed by historical landmarks, he told stories I didn't even know happened in San Antonio, such as how Johnny Cash was stationed here or the history of the downtown street names. I won't give up too much but it's worth touring, even as a local. Mr. O entertained everyone on the bus, dishing out his favorite bars and restaurants in the area and even starting up the Whataburger and In-N-Out war with the Californians.

We drove by the iconic enchilada library, Brackenridge Park, The Pearl, Hotel Emma, and more. I thought it was beautiful to see San Antonio through the eyes of tourists. The only eye-sore was the construction going on downtown. However, every time the out-of-towners awed at our historical, old-fashioned architecture, my heart melted.

If you want to experience the trolley, tickets start at $49.31 for adults. To learn more, visit the company's website .

San Francisco Bus Tours Reviews

Customer reviews.

It was a good experience, the bus frequency was really good, just the first boarding station has a longer wait, rest all stops have lesser waiting time.
