Dating back to the British colonies, Yelagiri or Elagiri is the charming little hill station near Chennai . Yelagiri is one of the tourist places that offers a delightful escape for those seeking tranquillity and natural beauty. Far from the madding crowd, and tucked between Vaniyambadi, and Jolarpettai - two small towns in the district of newly developed Tirupattur district, Yelagiri evokes a sense of peace and calm for those looking for an escape.
Yelagiri's landscape is breathtaking and out of this world. 250 kilometres drive away from Chennai, Yelagiri is an ideal weekend getaway for Chennaites. A getaway that people from far and wide indulge in as well. A large portion of the land is inhabited by tribal folks who make a living from forestry, horticulture, and agriculture in the local areas. One can go explore the Swami Malai Hills, or spend an afternoon on the boats on Nilavoor or Punganoor Lakes, marvelling at sunsets in the Forest Hills. Or make way to the ever-famous Yelagiri summer festival celebrated in the month of May to experience the authentic Yelagiri culture.

Peacefully serene, the park is well structured and is one of the most famous artificial lakes in Tamil Nadu and one of the best tourist places to visit in Yelagiri Hills. The beauty and tranquillity of the Pungannoor Lake Park also add to the overall experience. It is also worth noting that the park authorities are very strict about keeping the area clean, so it is critical to keep the area clean and well-maintained.
Telescope Observatory
Spot a star or two and indulge in the studies of the solar system, at the telescope observatory. It is one of the most prominent astronomical observatories situated on Indian soil. Look through one of the strongest telescopes to see the stars, planets and galaxies up close. Or better yet, join a stargazing event on your visit and allow the wonders of the cosmos to astound you.

Situated close to Puganoor Lake, the visit to this farm can be combined for more comfort. Take a stroll through the lush garden with the sweet smell of herbs tingling the senses or soothe your senses by meandering down the farm to glimpse the rows of plants and trees ripe with fresh juicy fruits.
Best Time to Visit Yelagiri
The months of October to March are the best time to visit Yelagiri. Solitudinarians usually flock to Yelagiri during the winter months of November to February due to the winter night views, uncongested places and low tariff rates. July to September is the best time for monsoon lovers to visit Yelagiri because the place looks vibrant and exuberant with the season's constant downpours. Just the same, Yelagiri weather never gets too hot in summer either, thus any time of year is the best time of the year to visit Yelagiri.
Yelagiri, with its serene landscapes and captivating attractions, is a paradise for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. "The Call of the Hills"
Yelagiri tourism.
A quaint little hill station located in Vellore, Yelagiri is just three hours away from Bangalore, making it the perfect spot for a quick weekend getaway. Spread a little over 30 square kilometres, and at a height of over 1100 metres above sea level, Yelagiri offers its tourists some beautiful places like the Jalagamparai falls, sweeping orchards and rose garden, among others. The ideal destination for nature lovers, Yelagiri is a town that is completely off the beaten tourist trail, lending it a quieter and much more peaceful vibe compared to other more famous hill stations nearby. Originally belonging to the Zamindar family of Yelagiri, the hill station began to gain popularity since the colonial rule, when it was used by the British as a summer getaway. Ever since then, it has been one of the hidden gems of South India, replete with rocky hills and natural scenic beauty, making it the perfect place to take a break from the fast-paced city life.
Yelagiri is one of those typical, silent places that seem ordinary on the outside but are more and more startling as you discover it. It has all the features of a great hill station, be it sunset points or lakes and parks. But the beauty of Yelagiri lies in all the more that it has to offer. Being one of the lesser known hill-stations in Tamil Nadu, the place is rarely overcrowded. The surroundings are pristine and the forests are home to some rare species of flora and fauna. The honey that is locally available is considered to be one of the purest and tastiest varieties.
