4. Princess Cays

With a marina called Love Boat, you’ll have an inkling of what’s in store at the classic cruise destination of Princess Cays . The private resort is located on the island of Eleuthera, encircled by white sand beaches and calm, turquoise swimming lagoons. Play a game of volleyball on Fury Beach, try kayaking or simply sway in a hammock to the sounds of island music.

6. Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is located between the calm waters of the Sea of Cortez and the waves of the Pacific. Therefore, you’ll find plenty of picturesque spots for swimming, fishing and sipping margaritas in the sun. Culture lovers will enjoy colonial San José del Cabo, with its mission church, art galleries and historic town square.

To delve into local highlights, a Camel and Mexican Outback Adventure takes you to an oceanside ranch to taste tequila, learn how to make tortillas and go for a camel ride on the beach. You’ll travel aboard a 4×4 Mercedes Unimog along cactus-lined streams and lush nature trails.

The best cruise destinations in winter all have one thing in common – sundrenched beaches. Then, there’s everything from jungle zip lining in Belize to swimming with dolphins in Nassau and dune buggy adventures in Princess Cays. You’ll forget the cold even exists, on a cruise to one of these paradise locales.

February in the Caribbean: Weather, What to Pack, and What to See

caribbean cruise in february

Juan-Carlos Muñoz / Getty Images

The Caribbean's most popular islands for travelers have one big claim to fame: year-round tropical weather. In North America, February is a frigid month with low temperatures gripping the northern states of the U.S. and pretty much all of Canada. Consequentially, everyone from snowbirds and spring breakers likes to make their way down to the Caribbean at this time of year, seeking warmer climates and fruity drinks.

Winter is high season for all of the islands in the Caribbean Sea, so while yes, you can expect high hotel rates, crowded pools, and sold-out tours in February, the good weather and plethora of exciting events are strong counterpoints for why you should go.

February Weather in the Caribbean

The weather across islands of the Caribbean in February is relatively unvaried and generally pleasant wherever you go. Wind can sometimes make the ocean choppy throughout February, but you can pretty much depend on good beach weather most days. Rain does happen from time to time and it's generally more cloudy in February than in other peak travel months .

Average February High/Low Temperatures:

  • Antigua and Barbuda : 82 degrees (28 C) / 74 degrees (23 C)
  • Aruba : 86 degrees (30 C) / 77 degrees (25 C)
  • The Bahamas : 78 degrees (25 C) / 67 degrees (19 C)
  • Barbados : 83 degrees (30 C) / 76 degrees (30 C)
  • Belize : 82 degrees (28 C) / 72 degrees (22 C)
  • Bermuda : 68 degrees (20 C) / 61 degrees (16 C)
  • Cuba : 79 degrees (26 C) / 64 degrees (18 C)
  • Dominica : 83 degrees (28C) / 71 degrees (21 C)
  • Dominican Republic : 85 degrees (29 C) / 67 degrees (19 C)
  • Grenada : 83 degrees (28 C) / 75 degrees (24 C)
  • Jamaica : 85 degrees (29 C) / 74 degrees (23 C)
  • Puerto Rico : 70 degrees (21 C) / 59 degrees (15 C)
  • Turks and Caicos : 77 degrees (25 C) / 76 degrees (24 C)

February is a pretty dry month, particularly for islands in the Eastern Caribbean . Typically, Dominica is the rainiest island in February, averaging just 4 inches of rain for the month. St Lucia , Puerto Rico, and Martinique also see rain frequently with an average 14 to 15 days of rain during February, but the average rainfall rarely exceeds 2 to 4 inches. If you really want to try to avoid the rain, Aruba, Bonaire, Barbados, and Jamaica, all average less than one inch of rain during February, but of course, there are no guarantees.

For swimming, average water temperatures throughout the region hover around 80 degrees (27 C), which is on the cooler side for the year, but not drastically cooler than the summer months. It's still very warm compared to the beaches you'd find in the northeastern U.S. at this time.

There's little use worrying about a hurricane interrupting your travel plans in February. Winter storms can happen, but they are extremely rare. The last storm to hit the Caribbean in February was a tropical depression recorded in the year 1952 and it did not cause serious damage or injury.

What to Pack

The Caribbean enjoys the same warm temperatures year-round, so you'll want to  pack  swimsuits, summer-weight clothing, sandals, and lightweight shoes. You should also pack a light sweater for nighttime. It doesn't get significantly cooler when the sun goes down, but it can get chilly sometimes. Take a poncho or raincoat if you plan on being there for a week or longer because you'll likely catch some rain during that time.

If you're escaping the cold weather, you'll still probably want to have a coat to wear on your way from home to the airport and vice versa. You'll have to keep it with you throughout your trip though, so consider bringing along a lightweight puffer jacket that can roll up into a small package. Also, make sure you have a pair of close-toed shoes with you, just in case you arrive home to snow.

February Events in the Caribbean

The Caribbean's high season happens to sync up with a number of annual events that are worth checking out if you're in the area or making a whole trip for.

  • Bob Marley's Birthday: Every year on February 6, Jamaica celebrates the life and music of their most famous Jamaican: Bob Marley. Usually, events are organized by the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston during the week leading up to his birthday.
  • Carnival : February is when Lent begins and the frenzy of Carnival hits its peak on many Caribbean islands like St. Martin , Jamaica,  Curacao ,  St. Barts , Martinique,  Trinidad , and Dominica. Every country has its own traditions, so be on the lookout for parades and special events going on wherever you end up staying.
  • Valentine's Day: There's no better time for a romantic trip to the islands than on or around Valentine's Day when many Caribbean resorts offer special packages designed to woo couples .
  • Valentine's Day Jump Up: Every year on Valentine's Day, the U.S. Virgin Islands celebrates with a giant block party in St. Croix.
  • Puerto Rico Freefall Festival : During this annual skydiving festival, three aircrafts are available to ensure daredevils can get in as many jumps as possible.
  • Barbados Holetown Festival : This small town tradition celebrates the anniversary of very first English settlement in a big way with events like pageants, marches, concerts, vintage car parades, and more.
  • Rum Cay Day Festival: On Rum Cay Day, all the locals of Rum Cay in the Bahamas will be out and about to celebrate in Port Nelson with live music and family games.

February Travel Tips

  • February is the third busiest month behind March and April , so you can expect crowds and rates on the high end for hotels and flights, but it's not as bad as it is about to get.
  • Cruising is a popular way to see more of the Caribbean in a short amount of time and it can actually be cost-effective to do so in February when rates are a little lower. Additionally, the dry season means the waters are less likely to be choppy.
  • February school vacation brings lots of families down to the islands, so avoid school vacation weeks if you're looking for a romantic getaway and book rooms and packages well in advance. You could also book a room at an adults-only resort if you'd rather not share the pool with the kiddos.

Caribbean Weather in February: Hottest Islands

Caribbean weather in February doesn’t always make a cruise or beach vacation a sure thing with warmth. Imagine this:

The water in Cancun was freezing. The air was cool. The trade winds made it even worse. It was the “warm” Caribbean during February, and no one was going into the water except me.

The same thing happened in Aruba during our February visit there, but it was not nearly as bad. Some people were going into the water—briefly—but most others were clearly staying out of it.

Welcome to the Caribbean in February. Temperatures are warm and sometimes even hot in many destinations, and people walk around in shorts for the most part. But swimming isn’t always a sure thing.

10-Day Weather Forecasts | See Caribbean monthly weather in: January - February - March - April - May - June - July - August - September - October - November - December Cooler waters from the north sometimes bring down the temperatures even in southern waters . Nighttimes are cooler, and trade winds can make a big difference. Luck with weather also can make a difference.

There are times and places when Caribbean weather is not as warm as people might think. So anyone planning a Caribbean vacation in February should choose their destinations carefully.

Warmest Temperatures in February

Travelers will find that Caribbean temperatures in February are almost always good for land activities.

Among major destinations, Aruba has the warmest temperatures during the month followed by the nearby Curacao as well as Grand Cayman. St. Thomas comes in fourth place.

Other major destinations don’t do so well with temperatures in February. The Bahamas (which are in the Atlantic) and Turks and Caicos are among the northernmost islands in the region with the coolest weather. Their temperatures hover in the upper 70s Fahrenheit or mid 20s Celsius.

Even though daytime temperatures are in the low to mid 80s Fahrenheit throughout most of the Caribbean, it’s the nighttime temperatures, wind chill and northern currents that make water uncomfortable at some destinations.

Anyone with flexible travel schedules should consider March or April instead for warmer weather along with low risk of rain.

Western Caribbean Weather in February

Vacationers will find that western Caribbean weather in February is right near the end of the coolest temperatures and also right in the middle of a dry season.

The most popular destinations such as Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize and Cozumel will have average high temperatures in the low to mid 80s Fahrenheit or high 20s Celsius.

Rainfall is lower than normal because late winter to early spring is a dry season for the western part of the region. The historical average is about two to three inches of total rainfall during the month, which is low for any part of the Caribbean.

Eastern Caribbean Weather in February

Eastern Caribbean cruises have a much wider range from north to south than western cruises because the Bahamas are often part of the itinerary, even though they technically are not part of the Caribbean.

Good choices for warm weather include St. Thomas and St. Maarten. Rainfall is low during the month.

Some eastern cruises include San Juan and the Virgin Islands, which are somewhat warmer and offer more chances for swimming and times on beaches.

Southern Caribbean in February

The southernmost destinations have the best chance at warm weather. Vacationers are almost guaranteed of having warm air temperatures during the day, although sea water temperatures may at times be uncomfortable, especially in the mornings.

Swimmers will also find that currents play a role in water temperatures. Some days will bring cooler waters from the north and others will bring warmer waters from the south.

Sea water during this time also has the unusual habit of having patches of water that alternate between warm and cool.

The islands with the warmest water include the ABC islands of Aruba , Bonaire and Curacao as well as other southern locations such as Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maarten and Trinidad, although Trinidad is not a common destination because it is farthest south.

Average Rainfall

February is definitely part of the dry season for almost every destination in the Caribbean. Rainfall drops to about two inches on average and in some places less than one inch.

Most destinations have a low risk of rainfall. The two with the most rain—Dominica and Martinique—are rainy islands with lush vegetation anyway and are known for eco-tourism more than beaches.

Another way of planning for rain is by looking at the average number of days that it rains each month. Again, most destinations see a drop and in some cases reach the lowest point of the year.

So anyone planning a February vacation in the Caribbean to get away from cold northern winters should look at the southernmost destinations to get the warmest days and most comfortable water for swimming.

Nude cruise to set sail from Florida next year: Here are the starting costs, itinerary

caribbean cruise in february

The "Big Nude Boat" cruise, which allows passengers to bare all − yes, even at the buffet − is set to sail from Florida next year.

The "11-day adventure" to the Caribbean is set for the first two weeks of February on the Norwegian Pearl, according to the Bare Necessities Tour & Travel website.

"Bare Necessities’ newest nude cruise is a private island double-dip with a brand new travel partner!" the company wrote on its website.

The trip which embarks from Miami, includes "an exclusive visit to an idyllic private island" in The Bahamas as well a another exclusive stop on the way back to the Port of Miami.

"Two opportunities to enjoy a new slice of Bare-adise, coupled with a beautiful selection of Eastern Caribbean island stops, will make this a can’t miss Big Nude Boat experience," the travel company posted.

Why cruises are popular with swingers: 'What happens on the ship ... stays on the ship'

A cruise to nowhere: Royal Caribbean sailing canceled after guests boarded

Big Nude Boat cruise sailing dates and destinations:

The ship departs from the Port of Miami on Feb. 3 and returns to the same port on Feb. 14.

The itinerary includes stops at the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, Dominica, Martinique and St. Lucia.

How much does the Big Nude Boat cruise cost?

Rates for an inside cabin start at $2,000 per person.

They stretch as high as $33,155 for the top room on the ship: a Haven three-bedroom garden villa.

Laws of the land (and sea)

Guests are encouraged to park their bare behinds on towels provided on board in areas including the pool deck and the buffet area, according to the website.

"Passengers can easily follow our rule on nudist etiquette by always placing a towel down before sitting," it reads. "Remember to pack a swimsuit; not all excursions are clothing optional."

"Big Nude Boat" offers a trip to "bare-adise" on a naked cruise from Florida

By Li Cohen

Updated on: May 2, 2024 / 8:20 AM EDT / CBS News

Like to travel light? One cruise ship soon to set sail from Florida is making sure all you need is the bare necessities – no shoes, no clothes but plenty of service.

" The Big Nude Boat " will take travelers from Miami to the Caribbean on "an 11-day adventure back to Bare-adise," the website says. Setting sail from Feb. 3 through Valentine's Day 2025, the trip offers a "stress-free, clothes-free experience" during which up to 2,300 passengers can roam the ship in the nude while out at sea.

"It's our pleasure to provide you with the luxury of deciding what NOT to wear," Bare Necessities Tour and Travel says.

@cbsmornings Would you dare to set sail on a nude cruise? 🚢 Cruisebare's upcoming full-ship nude cruise, departing from Miami in February next year, is making waves. Even #TonyDokoupil is down to go. 🌊 #cruises #vacation #experience #miami #sail ♬ original sound - CBS Mornings

Passengers won't be allowed to be naked when the ship is docked, but can ditch their usual attire once they are anchored or out on the water. And when clothing is optional, standard nudist etiquette must be abided by, the website says. When sitting, nude passengers must either wear a thong or sit on a towel or some kind of fabric. And while the self-serve buffet on the pool deck is a clothes-free area, passengers must be dressed for all dining room meals – and no, bathrobes don't count.

Photos and videos will also not be permitted unless all individuals being documented give consent.

"The Big Nude Boat" is just one of the cruises offered by Bare Necessities, which says on its website that the company has been "working to break down the barriers against social nudity and make clothing-optional vacationing a viable and acceptable option for all."

"Social nudity is not a sexual activity, and we strive to dispel the misconception that it is anything but natural and beautiful," the company says. "We have made strides in the acceptance of nude vacationing and our wide range of cruise charters are a testament to our success."

Norwegian Cruise Line to launch a nude cruise for 2025 – and these are the rules for passengers

A specialist tour and travel company has partnered with Norwegian Cruise Line to launch a new nudist cruise to the Caribbean .

Bare Necessities, a nudist travel company that aims to “break down the barriers against social nudity and make clothing-optional vacationing a viable and acceptable option”, has teamed up with the well-known cruise operator to set up the 11-day trip, which leaves from Miami and takes in destinations including The Bahamas , St Lucia, Dominica and Puerto Rico.

The cruise, which will take place on Norwegian’s 295-foot 2,300-person capacity Norwegian Pearl , will set sail on 3 February 2025 and return on 14 February.

Prices start at $2,000 (£1,592) per person for a standard two-person cabin, rising to $33,155 (£26,400) for a three-person ‘garden villa’.

The trip is marketed as “an 11-Day adventure back to Bare-adise”, offering “a wide range of amenities to fit everyone’s style of bare cruising”. The Norwegian Pearl contains “loads of entertainment, lots of open deck space, and multiple dining options”, including 14 restaurants, 14 bars and “a large buffet area for nude outdoor dining”, in addition to a casino, spa and several “nightspots”.

“As always, it’s our pleasure to provide you with the luxury of deciding what NOT to wear”, reads a final message on the information page.

However, it isn’t an entirely clothing-free experience. Cruise rules require passengers to be clothed during the Captain’s reception and introduction, while docked in port, and at all times in the main and specialty dining rooms.

Other rules include putting a towel down before sitting “in the stateroom, pool deck, and buffet area”, as well as a ban on “being nude in front of other ships in port” and “fondling or inappropriate touching”. A message on the site urges passengers to “use common sense”, emphasising that proper cruise etiquette “is not any different from proper etiquette in any other social situation”.

In a statement to CNN , a Bare Necessities spokesperson said: “Our mission is to provide relaxing, entertaining and health-conscious vacation opportunities that offer non-threatening, natural environments where the appreciation, wonder and compatibility of nature and the unadorned human form can occur.”
