About the Author
Kay Thompson (1909–1998) was a singer, dancer, vocal arranger, and coach of many MGM musicals in the 1940s. The Eloise character grew out of the voice of a precocious six-year-old that Miss Thompson put on to amuse her friends. Collaborating with Hilary Knight on what was an immediate bestseller, Kay Thompson became a literary sensation when Eloise was published in 1955. The book has sold more than two million copies to date. Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight created four more Eloise books, Eloise in Paris, Eloise at Christmas, Eloise in Moscow, and Eloise Takes a Bawth.
Hilary Knight, son of artist-writers Clayton Knight and Katharine Sturges, was educated at the Art Students League, where he studied with Reginald Marsh. Besides the Eloise books, Hilary Knight has illustrated more than fifty books for children, six of which he wrote himself. He lives and works in New York City, not far from The Plaza Hotel.

About the authors
Tammie lyon.
Tammie lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with her husband Lee, and loves spending the day in her studio with her dogs Amos and Artie. She began her love of illustrating at a very young age while drawing at the kitchen table with her dad. She has fond memories of sitting for hours drawing things around the house and later presenting them as gifts to her mother. Since she was an only child, drawing became a favorite form of self-entertainment.
Tammie initially pursued a career as a professional ballet dancer before she decided to switch gears. She attended the Columbus College of Art and Design, where she received her BFA. She began her illustration career as a staff illustrator for a major greeting card company eventually becoming the director of the juvenile product line. Having discovered that illustration was her true passion, she left to begin a freelance career in the children's market where she has illustrated numerous books, posters, magazines, cds, games, clothing, and just about anything else you can think of. She has now turned to writing as well and has written her first children's book, Olive and Snowflake (Marshall Cavendish) .
Some of her most recent books include four new titles in a brand new series for emergent readers, Pedro First Grade Hero (Capstone) as well as two new additions to the popular award winning Katie Woo Series (Capstone).
Lisa McClatchy
Raised in Worthington, Ohio, Lisa started her career in publishing after graduating from The College of Wooster with a degree in Art History. Her first job was working as an assistant to Toni Mendez, a renowned Literary Agent in New York City. Lisa then realized her dream of working in children's books when she was hired the following year as a Marketing Associate at Orchard Books. Working directly for Norma Jean Sawicki and Dick Jackson, two giants in children's publishing, Lisa was able to learn all aspects of marketing. Since then, Lisa has worked for a number of children's publishers including Macmillan, Simon & Schuster, Little, Brown, Clarion Books, Scholastic, Random House and Disney. She is currently a writer and freelance publishing consultant. Lisa's debut picture book, Dear Tyrannosaurus Rex, was published by Random House Children's Books in July 2010. Inspired by her daughter, Eirann, this book tells the tale of a young girl who writes to her favorite dinosaur, Tyrannosaurus Rex. After living in NYC and Los Angeles for a number of years, Lisa moved back home to Columbus, Ohio with her husband Kevin (an actor, Associate Professor, and Director of The Ohio State University's Shakespeare and Autism Project) and their daughter Eirann. They soon welcomed their second child, Kavanagh. Lisa is also the author of over ten Eloise Ready-to-Read titles published by Aladdin Paperbacks and is currently working on a number of new projects.
