Recent tour reviews

I have been waiting for over 20 yrs for Tool to come back to Dallas and Jam out. Well that's exactly what TOOL did on 22January2020 in Dallas, TX at American Airlines Arena. From start to end nothing but excellence from all 4 Gentleman. lanyards voice was Top form and the musician's jammed do hard I know they have to have blisters on their fingers. They are a very fine tuned head banging, fist in the air rocking Rock and Roll band of the Decade. If you happen to get a chance to see TOOL within the next 4 shows, only in the states, get there. Because you dont want to miss this show. SHOW OF THE YEAR!!!!! Guaranteed!!!

Absolutely incredible show! The sound was perfect, the visuals were spectacular and the band sounded super-tight (no surprise there). That is no easy feat considering the complexity of their music (especially their new material). They're one of the very few bands that actually sound the same or better live than the studio album. Maynard is finally more visible on this tour as they've added two platforms on each side of the drum riser where he crouched, danced, slithered and delivered his exceptional vocals. He even engaged the crowd a little bit, which was shocking. You could tell he and all his band mates are in a good head space and were really enjoying themselves. Truly memorable show from one of the greatest rock bands ever!

The band was unreal as always.

I attended a Montreal show a couple of years back and this was just as good along with the addition of some new album tracks.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the crowd here. The fans were far more connected to the music in Montreal. They understood the ebb and flow.

But, for some reason, we've got fools in Toronto who show up, get trashed and are somehow louder than the band. People here don't seem to get the idea that they're there with 12 - 13 thousand other people so it's really not about them. But, hey, that's the maturity level of kids old enough to drink legally, but not self-aware...

If ever they're back again, I'll see them, but never at Scotia again.

Reviews of TOOL’s recent live outings praised the four-piece, with Loudwire dubbing the performances as “a masterclass of immersion, sound and stage design, musicianship… and levels of ungodly tightness.” The Austin Chronicle described the incomparable live experience as an “unbridled exchange of catharsis between performers and fans” and Revolver said “TOOL delivered a stunning… set featuring classic fan favorites, newer Fear Inoculum standouts and choice deeper cuts … the striking visuals also included a psychedelic laser and projections show bar none.”

Quite possibly the era's most highly anticipated album, TOOL 's latest LP, "Fear Inoculum" , arrived in August of 2019. Debuting at No. 1 on Billboard 's Top 200, the album earned heaps of critical praise with NPR saying, " 'Fear Inoculum' was worth the 13-year wait," Revolver proclaiming the album "a masterpiece to be dissected for years to come" and Consequence saying the release finds " TOOL in peak performance."

Last year, TOOL released "Opiate2" , a re-imagined and extended version of the 1992 EP's title track and an accompanying short film, marking the band's first new video in 15 years. The band also unveiled the first incarnation of "Fear Inoculum" vinyl, dubbed the Ultra Deluxe edition, the limited offering included five 180-gram vinyl discs emblazoned with a unique etching and accompanied by an elaborate pictorial booklet including never-before-seen artwork.

TOOL formed in 1990, releasing five studio albums: "Undertow" (1993), "Ænima" (1996), "Lateralus" (2001), "10,000 Days" (2006) and "Fear Inoculum" (2019); two EPs: "72826" (1991) and "Opiate" (1992),and the limited-edition boxset "Salival" (2000). The band has won four Grammy Awards : "Best Metal Performance" (1998, "Ænima" ),"Best Metal Performance" (2002, "Schism" ),"Best Recording Package" (2007, "10,000 Days" ) and "Best Metal Performance" (2020, "7empest" ).

TOOL is Danny Carey (drums), Justin Chancellor (bass), Adam Jones (guitar) and Maynard James Keenan (vocals).

Tool

Tool is getting back on the road. The band announced on Monday (Sept. 27) a massive tour spanning four months to kick off in January 2022.

“It is with great pleasure I get to announce our return to the road,” drummer Danny Carey said in a statement. “These past 18 months have been trying, to say the least, but from great trials come great lessons and great rewards. We are looking forward to sharing them with you.”

Added frontman Maynard James Keenan, “Let’s finish what we started, shall we?”

Tool's Maynard James Keenan Shares His 'Ugly' Second Experience With COVID-19

The U.S. leg of the tour will begin Jan. 10 at the Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Ore., where the band — like many others around the world — had to halt its 2020 tour in support of 2019’s long-awaited release Fear Inoculum due to the global coronavirus pandemic. After first delaying the tour in February 2020, Tool elected to scrap it completely a few months later in June.

After three months touring the States, Tool will take a few weeks off before picking up with the European leg, which is slated to begin April 23 in Copenhagen, and ending May 24 in Budapest.

Blonde Redhead will support the Jan. 10-Feb. 10 dates, while The Acid Helps will open the Feb. 19-March 20 shows.

Tool Army members can access presale tickets beginning Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. local time for European dates, and Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. local for U.S. shows. There will also be exclusive packages available during the pre-sale windows. Tickets for all dates go on sale to the general public Friday (Oct. 1) at 10 a.m. local time.

Tool Have ‘Many Ideas’ For New Album, Reveal When They’ll Hit the Studio

Fans endured a 13-year gap between Tool albums by the time  Fear Inoculum was released in 2019. With "many ideas cooking" and a firm timeline on when they'll return to the studio, perhaps the band won't make everyone wait quite as long for another new record.

In March of 2022, drummer Danny Carey loosely talked about what's next for Tool musically and how another decade-long wait (or longer) seems unlikely.

"I'm sure it won't take us this long for the next one. We even had some stuff left over from the last one that we'll develop. We have head starts on three or four new songs," he told  Cleveland Scene last year.

Providing an update as a guest on The Vinyl Guide podcast, Tool bassist Justin Chancellor lays out what the band has in store for the next few months.

"We've got many ideas cooking. We haven't recorded anything yet. But we're quite busy until — I guess until after the spring of next year touring. So once that's done, we're gonna get back in the studio and knuckle down and put some of it together," Chancellor reveals (transcription via Blabbermouth ).

"We've already had a few pretty decent sessions of writing," he adds, "So we've got the ingredients in place. We've just gotta really bang it out and spend that time when we're not touring."

That studio time will likely takes place in early spring as Tool just announced a 2024 U.S. tour that stretches from Jan. 10 through Feb. 18, with support coming from Elder . See those dates here .

Pressed about whether or not Tool have leftover material from the  Fear Inoculum sessions, Chancellor says, "Yeah, tons from the last album. We have tons of ideas, but not recorded to the standard we'd put on an album. Just kind of, I'd say, lots of demoed stuff. And then just tons of ideas just kind of stored away."

2024 Corales Puntacana Championship Tournament preview

The Corales Puntacana Championship Tournament is this week, and the PGA Tour is in the D.R. for an opposite-field event while the RBC Heritage unfolds. This golf course is long but plenty gettable for players of various lengths off the tee.

2024 Corales Puntacana Championship Tournament rankings: Top 10 expert picks

1. Nicolai Hojgaard: Hojgaard had a taste of the Masters lead and then fell down quickly. Here's hoping he's a quick learner.

2. Alex Noren : Noren is such a consistent ballstriker that it makes sense for him to hold up well this week.

3. Billy Horschel : Horschel isn't the longest player, but he does embrace tougher conditions when they come. He's been playing better lately.

4. Mark Hubbard: Hubbard has been consistently good all year, and he's having a strong year in the FedEx Cup. He beats up on weaker fields.

5. Victor Perez: The Frenchman has thrived on the DP World Tour in tougher weather conditions, and he can here, too.

6. Aaron Rai: Rai isn't the longest hitter, but I love him in windy conditions. He fared well at the Mexico Open.

7. Ben Griffin: Griffin isn't playing as well this year as last season, but he has made three cuts in a row, including a T-17 at the Valspar.

8. Bud Cauley: Cauley has been playing really well in his return to the PGA Tour, missing just a cut this season. Contended at PGA National.

9. Davis Thompson: DT has been playing pretty well, missing one cut in his last five PGA Tour starts.

10. Matti Schmid: A high-variable player, Schmid hasn't missed a PGA Tour cut since the Cognizant Classic and has sprinkled in some good finishes.

Oracle Trains 10,000 Students and Professionals in the Latest Technologies to Fuel Singapore’s Digital Future

Oracle collaborates with TechSkills Accelerator for Institute of Technical Education and Polytechnics Alliance to provide internships and apprenticeships to nurture Singapore’s next generation of digital talents

Oracle University offers trainings and certifications for the future of work

Oracle Student

Oracle today announced its collaboration with the Singapore Government to bolster the nation’s digital workforce by training up to 10,000 students and professionals in the latest digital technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), cloud, cybersecurity and data science by 2027. Through the collaboration with IMDA’s TechSkills Accelerator for Institute of Technical Education and Polytechnics Alliance (TIP Alliance) , Oracle is offering internships and apprenticeships to students and graduates across five polytechnics. Additionally, Oracle University , the company’s comprehensive training and enablement platform, will provide Singapore-based learners certifications and trainings in key digital skills. This will equip Singapore’s digital talent pool with essential skills for tomorrow's technology-driven careers.

“When we launched the refreshed National AI Strategy (NAIS 2.0) in December last year, we set ambitious goals, one of which involves tripling our AI practitioner pool to 15,000 over the next five years.  Although it has only been four months, Singapore is already making good progress towards realising our vision of cultivating a skilled tech workforce capable of driving innovation and meeting industry demands. I am delighted to welcome like-minded partners such as Oracle to join us on our AI journey,” said Mrs Josephine Teo, Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-charge of Smart Nation and Cybersecurity .

“Oracle’s decades of data expertise and unique full stack of cloud-based AI continue to fuel our own business and our commitment to digital skills development in the industry,” said Garrett Ilg, executive vice president and general manager, Japan & Asia Pacific, Oracle. “With Singapore’s digital economy nearly doubling since 2018 ,  it's essential for the nation's talent pool to evolve in tandem, ensuring a skilled future-ready workforce. Our TIP Alliance collaboration and Oracle University platform strongly align with Singapore’s Smart Nation initiative. By enhancing the digital literacy of the workforce, we aim to bolster local employment opportunities and equip individuals to navigate the complexities of the digital economy effectively.”

Oracle is offering up to 300 internships and apprenticeships to students and graduates across five polytechnics over three years in collaboration with TIP Alliance as well as via Oracle’s programmes. To prepare the next generation for the tech industry and shift industry hiring practices from qualification-based to skills-based, Oracle is offering training to students and graduates in vital career skills for the digital era. This includes AI, generative AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data management, and autonomous databases. Students will also receive on-the-job training and benefit from the invaluable opportunity to work alongside industry experts at Oracle. To-date, close to 100 students have embarked on their internship journey.

As part of Oracle’s on-going efforts to provide readily-available digital talent to the local workforce, Oracle University will provide trainings and certifications for up to 9,700 learners in Singapore over the next three years. The program offers rigorous foundational training in data-driven technologies that will then channel students to professional-level training and certifications in areas such as AI, cloud, cybersecurity and data science—as well as additional training curated individually based on learning levels and educational goals. Oracle has also introduced a new Gen AI Professional Certification, specifically designed to empower digital professionals in Singapore with advanced expertise and skills in AI technologies. Additionally, learners can earn digital badges to indicate their job readiness for specialized roles, helping potential employers to better identify candidates and support job placement opportunities in Singapore.

Oracle University provides access to some of the world’s leading technology experts and practitioners to support cloud technology training and certification all over the world. More than 20 million hours of Oracle University learning content have been viewed by learners globally, and the programme has trained more than 3.1 million Oracle certified professionals in the global workforce, including Singapore.

Analysts and Customers on Oracle’s Digital Training Programmes

“IDC predicts that by 2027, two-thirds of cloud applications will use AI, leaving 80 percent of Asia organizations to struggle with finding enough skilled AI professionals to continually manage and update them. The combination of limited hiring budgets and scarce talent availability presents a significant obstacle for regional organizations seeking skills necessary for smart cloud and AI applications. Without prompt action, this could substantially impede AI adoption progress compared to other regions,” said Deepika Giri, associate vice president, IDC.

“Innovation is one of our values at Singlife. With our roots in insurtech, we are an early adopter of AI in our technology stack. This is why we continue to nurture our employees to develop innovative solutions. At our internal competition, #BetterIdea Challenge, we partnered Oracle, tapping on their Cloud Infrastructure solutions to develop innovative proof-of-concepts, ranging from AI, Gen AI, GPU, Autonomous Database and document analysis to AI-assisted recommendations,” said Romil Sharma, group head of technology and operations, Singlife .

Maynard James Keenan's Sessanta setlist: What A Perfect Circle, Puscifer and Primus played

tools next tour

Maynard James Keenan made a solid case for turning 60 as the new “you won’t believe what happens next” when the Sessanta Tour hit Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre in Phoenix on Tuesday, April 16, for a two-night stand, the second night of which falls on his actual 60th birthday.

The premise of the tour is that members of A Perfect Circle, Puscifer and Primus will not only share a stage but also musicians as the night unfolds, resulting in some truly awe-inspiring feats of musical cross-pollination.

Keenan, who launched his career in the ‘90s as the voice of Tool, is the singer for two of those bands, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. He’s friends with Primus, whose drummer, Tim Alexander, convinced him to give Jerome, Arizona, his home of many years, a look when he was in the market for a new home in the ‘90s.
