Parking & Reservation Information

Our Main entrance is located in the front of the building. We have parking available in the rear of the building. Please use our lot as well as the church parking lot, Hellertown does offer free street parking as well. Please refrain from entering thru the back patio door with the exception if you may need special assistance & handicapped access.

Most nights we are fully booked to capacity.  Please Allow a 15 minute window for reservations if needed. Our goal is the serve our guest, our family with in a reasonable, enjoyable time. Most parties are all reserved a 2 hour table time. Please understand there are parties after your party unless seating after 8pm.  We kindly request all guest to arrive on time. Feel free to contact us with any special request or needs. We can’t wait to meet you, come be our guest, join the family, be a friend of ours and enjoy our great Italian food!

We were very satisfied with the food! I had a tomato/basil/mozzarella salad and my husband ordered a Caesar Salad. We were both very happy with both salads! Service was very good! Ambience was incredible! We dined in the latest room completed that was very ambient and had a calming atmosphere.

We were happy to try this popular Italian restaurant in Hellertown. Tables in dining room were filled at dinner time, American 50's background music playing. Waitress brought bread in a basket with olive oil and butter, which was good with Caesar salad. Rigatoni Tartufo Bolognese contained cream, truffle oil, whipped ricotta and mushrooms and was pretty good.

The food is good, but nothing to brag about. The service was great! Our waitress was Meadow and she was priceless! We wanted to take her home, but that would have been weird! The ambiance looked more like a Fellini movie than a neighborhood restaurant. Go and enjoy but keep your expectations in check!

It hits on certain points but misses on very basic Italian food necessities. Bread is hot and served with your meal. Servers are kind and knowledgeable. Kitchen is running on time. Food items came out as described. They overcooked the pasta and didn't flavor the sides. I get the idea and they have a lot of good points the food just wasn't executed properly. If you had 4 components to your dish on your plate 2 of them were good and 2 of them were like Italian cafeteria food. I have eaten at the owner's restaurants before and they were great. I am not sure if we got a mid week chef and that is why it was not as good as we have heard. We may go back on a weekend to see if it different. It is better than most Italian restaurants around here just not great.

We ordered from this place for a work birthday party. It was a pretty good Italian place. I really liked the vodka sauce and the rigatoni was pretty delicious. The chicken parmesan was delicious. The chicken was cooked well and the sauce really complimented it. There was a ton of chicken in the dish as well.

Decided to try this Italian restaurant in Hellertown again. We had gone there with friends when it first opened and had an issue with a dinner that the chef actually came out to apologized for and the owner came over and said he'd comp the meal but then when we got the bill he refused, saying "well you ate it". Strike one! But after reading some very good reviews from others, I figured we'd try it again. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the staff extremely nice. Our party of 6 were seated and the waiter came right over to bring water and open our wine bottles. An app was ordered for the table while we decided on our entrees. I ordered the crab meat pasta dinner with angel hair. My wife ordered the same and asked the waiter how big the side salad was and if we could split it. The waiter said no problem but when he brought them out they were 2 separate salads which we were charged for both. I must admit the food was delicious, but certainly overpriced. When we finished the bill was brought without asking for it with a tip of 20% already included. I almost always tip at least 20% if the service is good but 18% is the norm if added by the restaurant. We would have asked for separate checks if given the opportunity. In my opinion they care more about the money than about their customers. Strike two! Not giving it a third chance.

Lump crab meat with pasta

This big restaurant is a little Gem! Their food is outstanding! From the meatballs to the Lobster everything was amazing even the salads and the desserts. Highly recommended! BTW BYOB-so add another star! We give it a 6! We were 1st timers but our friends had been there 3 times. If that doesn't say something about this review nothing than nothing does.

This is a great addition to our town although I did think "do we really need another Italian place?" Well, we have been there twice now and to answer my own question 100% yes! This place is different from all the other Italian places in town for a few reasons; the vibe is classy and chill, the noise level is tolerable and the food is fresh! So many great choices and the pasta is legit! As a chef owned and operated restaurant you get quality ingredients and a healthy portion; be prepared to take 1/2 home! It is BYOB but they have soft drinks etc. Save room for the house made desserts that rotate. Prices are reasonable especially considering the portion size. Definitely make a reservation to be on the safe side. Call if you want outdoor reservations. Servers are younger but they are thoughtful and attentive.

This was an overall great experience. Meadow is an amazing waitress that lives up to the hype! The appetizers we got were calamari and the meatballs. Both fresh and very tasty. I like the hot peppers with the calamari - nice touch. We had the lamb chops, tour of Italy, shrimp with rose pasta, and Nona's lasagna. First of all, the tour of Italy is massive. Easily could feed 3 people. It was also delicious. The lamb chops and shrimp pasta were both solid choices. The lasagna is heavy on the cheese but still a great dish. The celebratory ice cream at the end was the cherry on top of a delicious meal and amazing dining experience. Make reservations and try this place out - you will thank me later for it!

Called to order dinner to go. Was told that they do not make food for pick up and dine in only. Then was told that they were full up. Which I would be unable to eat in anyways. So why would you turn people away who are willing to place a 70$ order because you can't make the food to go? Not a great first impression. So much for trying that. To anyone looking for food and they say they won't serve you, try DiMaio's Italian right down the street. They allow you to place orders to go. They want your business.

“Great new Italian restaurant” Review of Taste of Italy ristorante

Just opened 5 weeks ago at the former Bellas. BYOB, large portions, reasonable prices. Friendly efficient service staff. Ambience , inside and outdoor patio. Food is just as good as Bellas. Now run by the Grisafi family with over 50 years of experience in the restaurant business. We had the Zuppa di Pesce and the Citrus Salmon. Both were excellent. Also the Italian bread served with meal was butter than garlic knots. Can’t wait to return! Also they take reservations.

This was our first visit to this new restaurant. The atmosphere, service, and food were delightful! We started with bruschetta and calamari for appetizers. We believe it was perhaps, the finest bruschetta we’ve ever had. I ordered Rigatoni Alforno. The shrimp was done perfectly, and... the vodka sauce was rich and savory. My wife ordered chicken francese, her frequent “go to”, and gave it two thumbs up. We finished with cannoli that was delicious. Sarah was our waitress, and she was amazing. Her description of the menu was extremely helpful. Her service was impeccable. We will definitely return to A Taste of Italy in the near future. We give it 5 out of 5 stares! More

Best Italian in Lehigh Valley. It's tough to get convenient reservations during prime time, so plan ahead. I had just about the best pasta of my life (linguine with white clam sauce). Seats are not too close together, and even when full, its not too... loud. Could use more bathrooms. Service was good. Everyone in my party of four loved their food. More

Very good food, nice atmosphere, and very friendly staff. The rigatoni tartufo bolognese was amazing. Great portions. BYOB is nice. The owner came by our table to check on everything which was nice to see. Definitely my favorite Italian restaurant in the area, and I’ll... be back soon. More

We had one of the best meals I have had in a very long time. You will not be disappointed! Many unique choices so something for everyone. Great appetizers to delicious deserts too! Seasoned Local Restaurateur Opening Italian Eatery in Hellertown

Chef and noted Lehigh Valley restaurateur Joe Grisafi is no stranger to Italian cuisine. As the former owner of A Taste of Italy and Roma Ristorante in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, as well as downtown Bethlehem’s Corked and several other local dining establishments, his culinary creations have tickled the tastebuds of many area residents. Grisafi is now preparing to bring his formidable talents to Hellertown, where he plans to open an as-yet unnamed Italian restaurant at 639 Main Street in early to mid April.

Hellertown area residents hungry for a new restaurant to try won’t have to wait long to satisfy their craving. Local restaurateur Joe Grisafi plans to open an Italian eatery at 639 Main Street in the borough in early to mid April. The as-yet unnamed restaurant will feature the Italian cuisine for which Grisafi has become known, and will be similar to South Whitehall Township’s Vivo Italian Kitchen, which is owned and operated by his father. Once the weather is warmer Grisafi said he will offer al fresco dining at tables near the restaurant’s entrance, which has been moved from the back of the building to Main Street.

The space in which the restaurant will be located has housed two Italian restaurants over the past 12 years. Bella’s Ristorante was located there from 2011 to 2019, and from the summer of 2019 to April 2022 Ella’s Ristorante occupied the space .

After taking a break from the restaurant business over the last couple of years, Grisafi said he missed it and decided to start fresh in Hellertown in part because he lives nearby.

As a resident of Center Valley for the past decade, he’s familiar with the area and said there is a strong market here for the kind of dining experience he’s developed over the years.

His new Hellertown eatery will be “not (just) another Italian restaurant,” Grisafi said.

“We’re going to be very similar to my dad’s restaurant, which is Vivo,” he said, referring to Vivo Italian Kitchen on Crackersport Road in South Whitehall Township.

With a family-friendly ambience, Grisafi said there will be pizza on his menu, but emphasized that Italian cuisine will take center stage. Patrons should expect to find dishes he has served at some of his former establishments on the new menu; dishes such as Chicken Giuseppe, Shrimp Limoncello, Veal Frangelico and Shrimp & Scallops Spedini, which features a veal cutlet, shrimp, scallops and portabella mushrooms in a pink vodka sauce.

Sauces and bread will be made from scratch and everything on the menu will be be prepared fresh to order, he said, adding that the pasta served will either be fresh-made or imported from Italy.

For guests with a gluten intolerance, there will be a gluten-free pasta, and dishes will be modified upon request to remove any ingredients that may contain wheat.

Grisafi said he’s not sure whether the restaurant will be open for dinner only or for lunch and dinner, but he expects it to be closed Sunday, which he said is reserved for time with his family.

Use of the former Cafe Erica which is attached to the restaurant space is not part of Grisafi’s current plans, which include seating for approximately 120 to 130 guests.

The main dining room will accommodate 70 patrons, he said, while two smaller rooms will hold 25 to 30 each. Those rooms–one of which is upstairs–will be used primarily for larger parties, special occasion gatherings and overflow seating.

Visitors to the restaurant will notice that the main dining area is now more open, with a wall that separated table seating from the former main entrance at the rear now removed.

Grisafi has moved the main entrance to the front of the building, where he said he plans to have outdoor table seating once the weather is warmer.

Grisafi said he is currently hiring for all positions, including servers, and encouraged anyone who is interested to stop by the restaurant to apply on weekdays between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

When it opens, the restaurant will be BYOB, with reservations available via the Resi and/or OpenTable apps.

Once a name has been chosen and an opening day determined, Grisafi said, he plans to move quickly to create social media accounts and a website to help spread the word.

Grisafi: The First Generation

It’s hard to miss that Taste of Italy is sandwiched between two businesses with the word “dollar” in them. The restaurant, though, likely predates both of them, having set up in that shopping center in 2001, long before the development of Airport Road as we now know it.

Much has changed since then. There’s an enormous strip mall across the street, an increasingly busy airport and a wildly popular minor league baseball stadium down the street. A nearby cluster of hotels spills out guests looking for dining options.

Taste of Italy, too, can be added to that list of changes. This past summer, the restaurant underwent a major facelift, ditching the relaxed pizza joint vibe in favor of a more slick, minimalist appearance. Rustic, terra cotta walls have been replaced by a cool grey Venetian plaster. The pizza by-the-slice counter is history, along with its adjacent six-pack fridge. In its place, there’s a bar with seating for a dozen, plus three recessed flat-screen TVs and two wine taps, and blue and green neon bling that automatically echoes the Grisafi family’s latest venture, Corked—albeit to a lesser degree. Gone are pastoral scenes of the Italian countryside, and the “ristorante” designation. In their place are splashy wine paintings lining the walls from Leeane Laine, and decorative beer kegs suspended over the front dining room on an open shelf. Meet Taste of Italy, bar and grill.

This past summer, the restaurant underwent a major facelift, ditching the relaxed pizza joint vibe in favor of a more slick, minimalist appearance.

The value for your dollar remains intact, so longtime customers don’t need to worry too much about these changes, as they are largely superficial, with the exception of the bar addition. Everything is still made to order. Pizza is definitely still available (even by the slice, albeit on limited duty). Sandwiches are definitely still a possibility for dinnertime consumption. However, as suggested by the artwork, wine is front and center, although the list is more thoughtfully edited. Instead of its previously customary two or three types of varietals by the glass, there’s now just one iteration of a house merlot, house chianti, etc. (You can buy bottles, too.) There’s still beer, with an emphasis on craft brews. Undoubtedly, the restaurant’s calling card—the ample menu with wide appeal and generous portions of food made to order—has a new look, but maintains 85 percent of its venerable offerings at the same prices, says Nicolo Grisafi, chef and owner. Grisafi, 60, estimates about 75 percent of their business comes from walk-ins. And Taste of Italy will continue to happily accept walk-ins, although you can now make a reservation via Open Table.

Grisafi says his established clientele is loving the new look out front where there’s a better opportunity to mix and mingle over a drink in a more contemporary atmosphere. Make no mistake, though, this place is still where the variety of pies is numerous and recipes for each, coveted. “The pizza is still here and so am I!” Grisafi says.

Grisafi’s youngest son, Franco, 22, is now managing the bar area and that is no surprise, as culinary skills run as thick as sauce in the veins of this Italian family.

For Grisafi, the process of perfecting pizza and pasta started when he came to the U.S. at just 19 years old.

Brother Paul (Paolo), runs the kitchen at Roma and Joe (Giuseppe), who opened Roma four years ago, has been occupied since October 2013 with the steakhouse/wine bar concept, Corked in Bethlehem.

“They grew up in the business, so it is in their blood,” Grisafi says.

For Grisafi, the process of perfecting pizza and pasta started when he came to the U.S. at just 19 years old. He set up his first small shop in Phillipsburg and several since then. “But I’ve never felt the location was right until I got Taste of Italy,” concedes Grisafi.  

There’s no big secret about what keeps him here, though: the great food and seemingly endless satisfied customers. Not an easy task in a Valley now replete with convenience food opportunities. “I just keep on top of everything; a watchful eye on everything,” Grisafi says.

Speaking of great food, if you’re curious about the particulars of those 15 percent new items, Grisafi says, “We are doing a lot more steak than we had been in the past.” They’ve added a Sicilian Steak with Crabmeat, a new hit. It’s a 12-ounce New York strip topped with lemon butter crabmeat. It’s unusual because it’s breaded and finished in the oven and served with roasted potatoes and asparagus. The Lobster Sinatra entrée is an undertaking. Imagine a four-ounce lobster tail, with littleneck clams, scallops and shrimp, sautéed with portabella mushrooms and roasted red peppers in a vodka sauce. You can keep it simple, though. Taste of Italy does that old-school move where you can customize your own dinner by selecting your protein (chicken, shrimp or veal), pasta type and sauce. The same approach is valid for their handful of pasta dishes, which includes but isn’t limited to gnocchi, tortellini, Alfredo and puttanesca.

In the world of greens, the popular but bitter green arugula shows up in a heavily accessorized salad form (arugula capriciossa) with shrimp, tomato, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, Kalamata olives and more, tossed with a lemon-basil dressing.

Other new items include a broccoli rabe appetizer, sautéed with olive oil and garlic, along with cherry tomatoes. They’ve added a Casa Wedge salad, topped with diced tomatoes, red onion and cucumber, topped with crumbled Gorgonzola cheese and applewood bacon and tossed with the traditional blue cheese dressing. These are modest additions to an otherwise robust menu that might leave you scratching your head trying to decide what to order.

As for Grisafi, he knows his tried and true favorites. “I love both my Marsala and my Francese sauces.” The one dish that does it for Grisafi, though, is his savory Shrimp and Scallop Risotto with Spinach. We’ve tried it and we couldn’t agree more, Nic!
