21 Wisconsin Instagram Spots For Stunning Photos (With Map)

Although Wisconsin is notorious for cold weather, beer and football, the state boasts hundreds of beautiful landscapes, historic architecture and undoubtably Instagram-worthy places. Don’t believe me? Here are 21 Wisconsin Instagram spots for stunning photos .

21 Wisconsin Instagram Spots For Stunning Photos (With Map)

Table of Contents

Prepare To Take Stellar Photos

Before we jump into the Wisconsin Instagram spots, there are a three steps you need to take to make sure you can capture excellent photos.

  • Gather your camera gear — even if that’s just your iPhone. (I’ve listed all of the  best budget camera gear for travel photography here .)
  • Learn the basics of taking amazing travel photos (as you can find  here ).
  • Learn a couple of poses for your travel photos. (Here are  25 easy poses for travel photos with examples !)

Now for the Instagram spots.

1. Lavender Fields In Washington Island

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to travel to France or the Netherlands to witness the beauty of lavender fields .

Washington Island , located just off the Door County Peninsula , is home to a plethora of lavender fields, including Fragrant Isle lavender farm and shop, and well as the Historic Island Dairy lavender field.

2. Peninsula State Park In Door County ( Wisconsin Instagram Spots)

On the way to Washington Island, you will drive through Door County and inevitably pass by Peninsula State Park .

Peninsula State Park, one of the most popular Wisconsin state parks, offers various hiking trails , bike trails , bluffs , and many breathtaking overlooks of Lake Michigan that require no hike at all.

Whether it’s spring, summer, fall or winter, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to take some Instagram photos here.

And, if the weather is nice, I highly recommend you pack a picnic to enjoy by the lake.

3. Milwaukee Art Museum In Milwaukee

Next, moving farther south, the Milwaukee Art Museum in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is hands-down one of the best Wisconsin Instagram spots for photos.

(We even had our wedding portraits taken here!)

Obviously, you could sneak artsy photos inside the museum with some Renoir or Degas , but the really Instagram-worthy parts of the MAM are actually in the building’s architecture.

Inside the museum, the architecture features an enormous white and windowed pavilion overlooking Lake Michigan , as well as uniquely shaped modern corridors .

On the outside, the museum looks like a modern white spaceship, sporting a Jetson-like photo opportunity .

The best places to take photos outside the Milwaukee Art Museum are either across the pedestrian bridge or on the grassy hill (shown below, respectively).

4. Lawrence University Memorial Chapel In Appleton

Similarly, the Lawrence University Memorial Chapel in downtown Appleton features bright white architecture, too.

However, the white architecture of Lawrence University resembles a much more classical look .

There are several Instagram-worthy spots on the Lawrence University campus (like the iconic red doors ) but the most popular place for photos (especially for senior pictures, homecoming pictures or prom pictures) is in front of the campus chapel .

5. Anderson Dock In Door County

In addition, Anderson Dock in Door Country is also an extremely popular Wisconsin Instagram spot.

Anderson Dock, known for its colorful graffiti signatures , has taken Instagram by storm in the past five years.

Rarely will you find an Instagram post about Door County without a joyful photo on Anderson Dock.

6. Wilson’s Restaurant & Ice Cream Parlor In Door County (Wisconsin Instagram Spots)

Just down the street from Anderson Dock is the iconic Wilson’s Restaurant & Ice Cream Parlor .

Not only does Wilson’s serve fantastic American food and milkshakes, but the old-fashioned soda-shop look of both the restaurant’s interior and exterior make for fabulous photo opportunities.

7. Apostle Islands National Lakeshore In Bayfield

Moving farther north, the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore lies on Lake Superior and features massive bluffs , caves , hikes and lots of kayaking .

If you’re up for an adventurous day trip or weekend getaway, the scenic Apostle Islands will definitely provide spots for epic Wisconsin travel photos.

8. Big Manitou Falls In Superior ( Wisconsin Instagram Spots)

Not far from the Apostle Islands is the legendary Big Manitou Falls .

Big Manitou Falls, located inside Pattison State Park, is the tallest waterfall in the state of Wisconsin .

It rages a roaring 165-foot drop from a river-fed lake, and its numerous overlooks give you the opportunity to see the falls from all upper angles, including a rare sighting of the waterfall’s  crest .

This waterfall is a perfect road trip pit-stop, as it is  easily accessible  and  minimal walking  distance from the parking lot.

In fact, the best place for an Instagram photo is located in the park directly across the street from the parking lot .

9. Devil’s Lake State Park In Baraboo

Wisconsin natives love Devil’s Lake State Park . The fact that Devil’s Lake is the most visited Wisconsin state park proves this to be true.

And, Wisconsin natives love to post pictures from their Devil’s Lake hikes on Instagram.

In particular, the hike to Balanced Rock is rewarded with a marvelous view of Devil’s Lake and, naturally, a photogenic lopsided balancing boulder.

There are several trails that will take you to Balanced Rock , such as the strenuous hike straight to Balanced Rock or the more moderate loop trails that pass by Balanced Rock.

10. Wilke Glen & Cascade Falls In Osceola

Next, Cascade Falls .

Hidden beneath downtown Osceola, the Cascade Falls waterfall pours 25 feet over the Earth’s erosion into a large, shallow pool.

Because the ledge caves under the falls,  you can actually walk under it  from the far left side to the far right side of the waterfall. Just be careful not to slip!

Additionally, the falls are stowed inside burnt-orange clay canyon, leaving a safe space for swim and recreation.

11. Morgan Falls In Marengo ( Wisconsin Instagram Spots)

Morgan Falls ’ smooth, flat trail details a picture-worthy walking bridge, a myriad of wildflowers and glittering streams. The sound of the waterfall peaks through the foliage about 0.5 miles into the hike.

The cascade falls into a freshwater lagoon,  ideal for a quick dip , while 20 feet of neighboring granite offer  an entertaining climb . These remarkable features plus its pleasant vacancy names Morgan Falls the  Neverland of the Midwest .

12. Neshotah Park & Beach In Two Rivers

You no longer have to fly to Florida to get the perfect beach shot!

Neshotah Park in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, is one of the nicest swimming beaches in the state .

It’s located on Lake Michigan, which means the endless blue water will have you feeling like you’re on the ocean .

wisconsin instagram spots

13. Atwater Beach In Milwaukee

Another superb Wisconsin beach is Atwater Beach.

Like Neshotah Park, Atwater Beach is situated on Lake Michigan, and it truly feels like an ocean’s beach . So, if you’re looking for a beachy escape from the city , spend a day at Atwater Beach.

And, don’t forget your camera!

The best time to take photos at Atwater Beach is at sunset . In fact, my husband and I had our sunset engagement photos taken at Atwater.

14. Winding Road In Door County (Wisconsin Instagram Spots)

Winding Road is exactly what it sounds like: a winding road .

However, what makes Winding Road particularly unique is its ironically straight view of each little turn. This gives the road a photogenic zigzag appearance .

To get to Winding Road, take Highway 42 all the way to the northernmost part of the Door County peninsula. This will eventually take you to the Washington Island Ferry. You’ll pass the winding road just before the Washington Island Ferry line.

If you see signs for Gills Rock , know that you’re close.

The best time of year to take photos at Winding Road is early-mid October , when the fall foliage is in full swing in Door County.

Also, if you have a telephoto lens (like this one for Canon EF cameras ), bring it!

Most Instagrammable Places In Wisconsin

15. Nordlys Lodging Co. In Frederic

Next, Nordlys Lodging Co. has blown up on Instagram due to its envied glamping aesthetic.

Nordlys Lodging Co., a modern cabin rental company in northwestern Wisconsin, has two unique, modern cabins.

If you’re not into the cabin/camping scene, don’t worry! These cabins are fully equipped with a chef’s kitchen, central air, cozy fireplace, high-speed internet, Netflix, a laundry machine and more .

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nordlys Lodging Company (@nordlyslodgingco)

16. Rib Mountain State Park In Wausau ( Wisconsin Instagram Spots)

Rib Mountain is a  gold mine  of Wisconsin fall foliage, literally.

Drive around the hilly neighborhoods of the Rib Mountain area, and you are sure to find the perfect location for fall-color photos .

Before departing from Rib Mountain,  take the ski lift  up the hill to  see the colors from a bird’s eye view . You can purchase low‑cost tickets next to the Rib Mountain State Park parking lot.

17. Cranberry Bogs On The Wisconsin Cranberry Highway (Wisconsin Instagram Spots)

Drone pilots , you’re going to love this Wisconsin Instagram spot.

Cranberry marshes are plentiful in the state of Wisconsin — so much so that the 50-mile stretch from Wisconsin Rapids to Warrens is nicknamed the “Cranberry Highway.” The best time to see the cranberry bogs here is between October to December .

Although cranberry fields seem somewhat uneventful, their vastness, uniqueness and maroon colored quality ensure that you’ll be posting the best one-of-a-kind Wisconsin pictures .

Likewise, if you have a drone, you will be able to capture some incredible aerial footage here.

18. Cave Point County Park In Sturgeon Bay

Unlike the pumpkin patches and cranberry bogs, Cave Point County Park offers stunning scenery year-round .

In particular, the winter views of Cave Point County Park are exception, boasting massive icicles , ice shelves and frozen bluffs on the bay of Lake Michigan.

I personally recommend visiting Cave Point at sunrise because the pink sky and icy blue ground compliment each other wonderfully in photos.

However, if you plan to walk out onto the bluffs, ice shoe spikes (like these attachable ones ) will be important.

Door County Wisconsin Instagram Spots

19. Ice Castles In Lake Geneva ( Wisconsin Instagram Spots)

Next, it wouldn’t be a complete Wisconsin Instagram location list without the iconic Ice Castles of Lake Geneva.

The Ice Castles , which are quite literally castles constructed of ice , open every winter (weather depending, of course).

Tickets typically go on sale around January, and they sell out fast . So, if you want to visit the Ice Castles, follow them on Instagram so you can stay as up-to-date as possible on ticket sales.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ice Castles (@icecastles_)

20. Washington Island Stavkirk In Washington Island

The  Washington Island Stavkirke is a replica stave church that was built by local carpenters who wanted to depict the island’s vast Scandinavian heritage.

After you cross the boardwalk that leads to the church, your eyes will be drawn immediately toward the details of the structure. Four  wooden dragons  extend over the ship-like staves.  Detailed Norwegian carvings  are on every wall and post to represent the ancient mix between paganism and Christianity. And, a multitude of  small wooden shingles  endlessly scale the roof.

The Washington Island Stavkirke will quench your thirst for international travel , making it one of the best things to do on Washington Island .

door county wisconsin instagram

21. Lambeau Field & TitleTown In Green Bay

Last but not least, I don’t think I could hit all of the best Wisconsin Instagram spots without mentioning at least one stereotypically football-esque location: Lambeau Field.

You have to take a picture if you go to a Packer game. That’s a given. (If you don’t already know, Lambeau Field is the Packers’ stadium .)

But, the best spot to take a photo in Lambeau Field is actually on its seasonal ice rink in front of the huge, colorfully lit Christmas tree .

Lambeau locals love posting friendly photos in front of this tree. So, you want to fit in with the locals, this is one of the best Wisconsin Instagram spots for you.

The Badger State may not spring to mind as a vacation hot spot or bucket-list destination, but frankly, it should. Wisconsin has plenty to offer every type of traveler, with tons of geographic diversity, excellent mid-sized cities, gorgeous natural wonders, a bevvy of notable culinary traditions, and more. If you’re headed to America’s Dairyland for a long weekend getaway or a quickie day trip , the state is sure to shine with Midwestern charm. Here are the 14 best things to do in Wisconsin, whether it’s your first or fiftieth time visiting.

Great River Road Wisconsin

Explore the Great River Road

Following the Great River Road along the Mighty Mississippi River is a quintessential American road trip. A not-so-well-kept secret is that Wisconsin boasts the prettiest views on the entire journey. Start in Prescott, home to the Great River Road Visitor and Learning Center . Then, consider grabbing a bite to eat at the excellent seasonal eateries along the way, like Chef Shack in Bay City, Hop Dish & Vine in Stockholm, and Harbor View Cafe in Pepin. Stretch your legs with a quick, scenic hike at Maiden Rock State Natural Area, which overlooks the stunning waters of Lake Pepin, the widest natural part of the river. Wash it all down with a glass of Cotes Du Pepin white at Villa Bellezza , one of just many stops on the Great River Road Wine Trail , part of the Upper Mississippi River Valley American Viticultural Area.

Fun fact: The entire Great River Road route just earned the All-American Road designation from the National Scenic Byway program .

Whistling Straits Golf Course People playing golf sunset

Golf Whistling Straits

Whistling Straits is a bucket list, world-class, Pete Dye-designed public course that kisses the coast of Lake Michigan in Sheboygan County. Designed to look and feel like Ireland, the course is actually one of many stellar golf options associated with a nearby luxe resort, The American Club in Kohler, Wisconsin. The state boasts a myriad of fine courses, Sand Valley and Erin Hills among them, but Whistling Straits stands out from the pack as the host of the 2021 Ryder Cup (rescheduled from 2020), three past PGA Championships, and all the charm and amenities that come with Kohler hospitality.

Door County Schoolhouse Beach aerial

Experience Door County

The popular destination Door County , long ago nicknamed “The Cape Cod of the Midwest,” offers full immersion into all things Wisconsin. Start with a fish boil at the The White Gull Inn and stay for a starry night at Newport State Park , the state’s first International Dark Sky Park . Take the ferry to Washington Island for a visit to Fragrant Isle , a massive, Provence-esque lavender farm. Back on the peninsula, pop into an old school Supper Club like Earl’s in Sister Bay, one of over 250 in the state; for the most authentic version of this culinary tradition, be sure to order fried cheese curds with ranch, a Midwest must, along with a Wisconsin (Brandy) Old Fashioned.

Ice Caves Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Wisconsin A beautiful natural arch on Lake Superior covered in ice

Hike to the ice caves at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore

The Bayfield region on Wisconsin’s northern tip has a federally designed National Lakeshore, which is administered by the National Park Service. While Apostle Islands makes for a memorable destination all year long, a wintertime trip belongs on your Badger State bucket list for one reason: ice caves . These are only open when weather allows, as access to the caves requires a minimum two-mile, round-trip hike on the frozen waters of Lake Superior. Expect massive ice formations among the craggy shores, made even more special by the specific conditions necessary to view them in all their glory.

This area is also known for its embrace of native culture and is home to Frog Bay Tribal National Park , the nation’s first, as well as the U.S.’ original indigenous-owned distillery, Copper Crow .

Wisconsin Cheese Trail Interior of Fromagination Cheese Shop

Sample award-winning cheese in the capital city

We probably should have led with this one, since you can’t come to Wisconsin without eating all of the cheese. The state, affectionately called America’s Dairyland, produces more than 600 types of cheese, including the winningest U.S. cheese of all time, Pleasant Ridge Reserve , a divine alpine-style delicacy produced by Uplands Cheese in the Driftless Region . Travel Wisconsin actually has two distinct cheese trails , though our favorite is the Southwest Itinerary. Some highlights are Fromagination, an artisan shop on Capitol Square in Madison, and the fourth generation Carr Valley Cheese , which produces more than 100 styles. While in Madison , visit the Dane County Farmer’s Market, the largest producer’s-only market in the country.

Fans tailgate prior to a game between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field in Green Bay Wisconsin.

Tailgate where it was invented

Green Bay, home to the NFL’s Packers and their home base at Lambea Field, is the official seat of tailgate culture. Legend holds that Packer fans first coined the term a century ago while cheering on their pigskin team. The mixed-use development around the stadium is now known as Titletown , but be sure to stick to the Lambeau lots for sanctioned tailgating action. Sports fans will especially enjoy this offering, though the pretty scenery of Northeastern Wisconsin attracts a broad spectrum of travelers to the area. For more football-focused activities, consider walking or driving the Packers Heritage Trail and visiting the Hall of Fame .

Kayaking on Lake Michigan

Paddle the Lake Michigan Water Trail

Once complete, the entire Lake Michigan Water Trail will be a 1,600-mile route that traverses the Great Lake’s shore. Eventually, it will be the water equivalent to the Appalachian Trail and the longest continuous loop water trail on earth. Wisconsin is ahead of the pack here, as its 525 miles form the only completed section of the trail, beginning near Kenosha and ending by Door County. Paddlers can canoe, kayak, and stand-up paddleboard to campsites every ten miles on the beach, with plenty of lighthouses, sand dunes, and shipwrecks along the way.

aerial view of Cranberry Bog Wisconsin

Drive through cranberry country

A lesser-known agricultural gem are Wisconsin cranberries. The state produces more of this tart red fruit than any other, growing more than 60 percent of the nation’s bounty. Warrens is considered the Cranberry Capital, and it hosts an annual festival that coincides with the cranberry harvest every year in late September. This central Wisconsin town is also the start of the so-called “Cranberry Highway,” a scenic 50-mile jaunt through ruby red, century-old marshes. For the most interactive experience, consider a tour of a working marsh like the Splash of Red Cranberry Tours in Pittsville.

New Glarus Brewery

Take a sip of Spotted Cow

Beer is another major staple in Wisconsin. After all, its largest city of Milwaukee has a baseball team called the Brewers, and residents consume more alcohol than almost any other state. Of all the brewing operations in this land of beer, we suggest a visit to the female-owned New Glarus Brewery down south. Their tasty beverages can only be enjoyed in the Badger State. If you’re having just one, try the best-selling, cult classic Spotted Cow. If time allows, consider a brewery tour and tasting to sample Fat Squirrel, Moon Man, Two Women, and Staghorn Octoberfest.

Frank Lloyd Wrights Taliesin

Visit Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin

Frank Lloyd Wright grew up in the Badger State, which inspired his famed Prairie Style of design. Visitors can follow in his footsteps on the Frank Lloyd Wright Trail , which traverses the southern reaches of Wisconsin and includes nine total stops. Taliesin and the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor’s Center remain the star attraction, 800 acres set among the rolling hills of Spring Green.

Boy Karting at Road America

Discover Road America in Elkhart Lake

Elkhart Lake is a teeny, jewel-toned wonder that is called the clearest lake in the state. And while it is a gorgeous body of tranquil water, that’s not the biggest draw to this cute village and resort area. That honor belongs to Road America , one of the most historic tracks on the planet that happens to call Eastern Wisconsin home. Guests can see a race in action, camp overnight, ride ATVs, race go karts, take driving classes, and so much more on this 600-acre-plus property.

GeesClippers Barber Shop in Bronzeville Wisconsin

Celebrate Black excellence in Bronzeville

Milwaukee’s Bronzeville neighborhood was a historic jazz, arts, and entertainment district for primarily the African American community. Today, it’s home to a diverse mix of businesses, like food halls and artist galleries. Be sure to stop into the Bronzeville Collective , a grouping of 25 artist’s shops focused on makers of color. America’s Black Holocaust Museum will also open in the area soon.

Waterpark in The Dells Wisconsin

Make a splash at America’s largest waterpark

Southern Wisconsin is the so-called “Waterpark Capital of the World,” with Noah’s Ark as the largest individual park property set on more than 70 acres of family-friendly fun. This region is colloquially known as The Dells, and its full name is The Wisconsin Dells. Beyond racing down water slides, The Dells claims excellent golfing, is near the most visited state park in Wisconsin at Devil’s Lake , and is famed for its duck boat land-to-water tours.

Eau Claire Murals Art

View the murals in Eau Claire

This funky hamlet is considered the “Indie Capital of the Midwest,” and it shows. A booming art and music scene has helped Eau Claire become the fastest growing city in the state. Outdoor sculptures, massive murals, and art galleries galore combine into an art capital that’s a worthwhile destination on its own. A stellar lineup of festivals like the Blue Ox Music Festival, Eau Claire Jazz Festival, and Eaux Claires (championed by local resident and Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon) round out the creative offerings in this small but mighty city.

Travel Wisconsin launches campaign: 'Here's to those who Wisconsin'

travel wisconsin instagram

Travel Wisconsin campaign

MADISON, Wis. - Travel Wisconsin launched its 2022 summer campaign, "Here’s to Those Who Wisconsin" on Monday. The new campaign highlights Wisconsin’s spirited and celebratory nature, encouraging travelers to experience shared moments of joy in a way that is unique to Wisconsin.

The ads feature real families and real friends discovering the unexpected in Wisconsin and showcasing the welcoming personality of our state.

Building on the momentum of the 2021 advertising campaign, the 2022 campaign launched in the same 12 markets with a bigger spend and deeper reach than in any previous campaign in Travel Wisconsin’s history. In-state markets include Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay and Wausau while out-of-state markets include Chicago, Minneapolis, Cedar Rapids, Duluth, Rochester, Davenport, Des Moines and Rockford.

"2022 is expected to be a huge year for tourism’s recovery and Travel Wisconsin is ready to help people enjoy quality time with friends and family while making lasting memories," said Tourism Secretary-designee Anne Sayers. "We’re making historic investments, but most importantly we’re using data to help make sure our dollars are working hardest for us as we engage more travelers in the Wisconsin brand. This data helped confirm our most strategic target advertising markets and informed decisions to expand investments in the Minneapolis and Chicago markets, which currently provide the greatest return on our investment and have the most untapped potential."

WEATHER ALERT

A river flood warning in effect for Columbia County

Biden lauds new microsoft center on the same site where trump's foxconn project failed.

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden on Wednesday laced into Donald Trump over a failed project in the previous administration that was supposed to bring thousands of new jobs into southeastern Wisconsin and trumpeted new economic investments under his watch that are coming to the same spot.

That location in the battleground state will now be the site of a new data center from Microsoft, whose president credited the Biden administration's economic policies for paving the way for the new investments. For Biden, it offered another point of contrast between him and Trump, who had promised a $10 billion investment by the Taiwan-based electronics giant Foxconn that never came.

“In fact, he came here with your senator, Ron Johnson, literally holding a golden shovel, promising to build the eighth wonder of the world. You kidding me?” Biden told the crowd of about 300 people, who clapped and cheered loudly as he spoke. “Look what happened. They dug a hole with those golden shovels, and then they fell into it.”

Noting that 100 homes were destroyed to make way for the project, which wasted hundreds of millions of dollars, Biden added a jab: “Foxconn turned out to be just that — a con. Go figure.”

Biden was in Sturtevant, in Racine County, to promote the $3.3 billion Microsoft data center, which the Democratic president said will employ about 2,300 union construction workers to build it and then 2,000 permanent employees to staff it.

Microsoft’s president Brad Smith said in an interview with The Associated Press that Microsoft had a “steadfast commitment to under-promising and over-delivering” and praised the Biden administration and the state’s Democratic governor, Tony Evers, for economic policies that set the stage for the developments announced Wednesday.

But Biden was eager to take the credit and use the opportunity to repeatedly take swings at Trump, arguing that his presumptive Republican challenger embraced the same type of “trickle-down economics” that Biden abhors and failed to revive domestic manufacturing during his four years in the White House.

“Folks, during the previous administration, my predecessor made promises, which he broke more than kept, left a lot of people behind in communities like Racine,” Biden said. “On my watch, we make promises, and we keep promises."

Trump's campaign didn't address Foxconn, but the Republican former president often says the economy was in a much better position when he was in office and will be again should he win in 2024. Republican National Committee chairman Michael Whatley said Biden's trip was an attempt to “save face in Racine County as Wisconsinites feel the pain of Bidenomics.”

“Manufacturing has stalled, family farms are shuttering, and costs are up for everything from electricity and gas to food and housing,” Whatley said. “It’s no wonder why Biden is losing in Wisconsin and battleground states across the country: his policies have failed and people want President Trump back in office.”

Foxconn, meanwhile, said its current Wisconsin operation “greatly contributes” to the company, which has invested roughly $1 billion in the state and now employs more than 1,000 people at Foxconn Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Republican U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil, who represents the district where Biden was visiting Wednesday, said the Microsoft announcement was good for workers. But Steil said Biden is using it to hide his record on failing to control rising inflation and said Biden was taking credit for private-sector work in the region that began a decade ago, much of it for the Foxconn project.

As for Trump, he was back in Florida on his day off from his New York hush money trial on Wednesday, meeting at his Mar-a-Lago club with people who, as part of a promotion, bought digital trading card NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to publicly discuss it. The “MugShot Edition” NFTs featured images of Trump as a cowboy, with lightning coming out of his hands, walking by the U.S. Capitol and taking the place of Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial.

Later, Biden met with about 50 Black supporters and volunteers at a community center in nearby Racine, noting that he first got into politics “because of the African-American community.”

He also briefly laid out the stakes for the election, warning of the potential risk to democracy and Trump’s threats to “get rid of all the stuff that we’ve done.”

Racine County is a critical location. All but five of the past 33 winning presidential candidates carried it. Trump is one of the five. He won Racine County but lost the election. Biden was the first Democrat since 1976 to win Wisconsin without carrying Racine County.

The race is expected to be close in Wisconsin, where four of the past six presidential elections have been decided by less than a percentage point. Biden won by just under 21,000 votes in 2020. A recent Marquette University poll showed that Republican voters in Wisconsin are somewhat more enthusiastic about the election than Democrats.

Biden's trip to Wisconsin — his fourth of the year and 11th as president — came as his reelection also sharpened its outreach to minority voters on the airwaves. It announced the launch of a new, $14 million digital and television blitz that follows the $30 million effort that began after his State of the Union address in early March.

One of the new ads in the latest ad campaign focuses on Trump’s failed yet determined push to repeal the Affordable Care Act. A significant portion of the $14 million campaign starting Wednesday will go into Black and Hispanic media, as well as Asian American print and radio, according to the campaign.

By the end of May, Biden’s reelection effort will have more than 200 offices and roughly 500 staff members in place, according to Dan Kanninen, the campaign’s battleground director. Those figures include offices in areas that traditionally haven’t seen investments by Democrats in pockets of Michigan, Arizona and North Carolina.

While Microsoft has been ramping up artificial intelligence-driven data center construction around the world, “this one is more important than many because there is more land and ultimately access to power available,” said Smith, who as a child lived in the area where the center is being built.

Once in operation, however, even the most powerful data centers typically employ a relatively small group of full-time employees to oversee them. Microsoft will have about 500, pulling from highly skilled workers in the corridor between Milwaukee and Chicago, Smith said.

Kim reported from Washington. Associated Press writers Michelle L. Price in New York, Scott Bauer in Wisconsin and Matt O'Brien in Providence, Rhode Island, contributed to this report.

National Nurses Week 2024: A RN reflects on the state of the profession, calls for change

When is National Nurses Week?

National Nurses Week is observed annually May 6 through May 12.

What is National Nurses Week?

National Nurses Week grew out of a congressional resolution and proclamation signed by President Reagan in 1982 deeming May 6 as a National Recognition Day for Nurses.

The American Nurses Association board of directors expanded this to a National Nurses Week in 1990. The permanent dates for the week were designated in 1993 to be officially observed starting in 1994.

The week includes National School Nurses Day on May 8 and May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, which has been celebrated as International Nurse Day since 1974.

Articulated electric buses coming to campus this summer

Photo of an articulated bus parked on the side of a road in front of a tall building on a sunny day.

You may have already spotted the shiny new buses winding their way through campus and the streets of Madison. Sightings will become more common, and you may even get a chance to take a ride as the new buses begin serving UW–Madison campus routes later this summer.

The impressive 60-foot articulated vehicles are longer than regular buses, with two sections connected by an accordion-like structure to maneuver around corners. They are part of the City of Madison’s all-electric fleet , which will serve the city’s new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes .

The new buses are expected to become fully operational on campus circulator routes beginning in fall 2024.

Transportation Services, in partnership with UW–Madison and the City of Madison, has contributed to matching efforts to secure federal funding for the new buses.

Photo of a group of people seated inside the articulated section of an articulated bus.

What is new about the articulated buses?

The new buses are fully electric, zero-emission vehicles. They will recharge at stations located at the Madison Metro bus depot. Additional recharging stations will be located throughout the city.

A regenerative braking system also recharges the batteries during operation by reclaiming the bus’s kinetic energy when the driver takes their foot off the accelerator.

According to the manufacturer , a zero-emission bus can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 135 metric tons – equivalent to the emissions produced by a 40-foot clean-diesel bus each year.

Being battery-operated, the electric buses also run more quietly than traditional buses.

Photo of female-presenting student in a mobility device stationed at a self-securement area in a Madison Metro Transit bus.

Improved ADA accommodations

The buses are kneeling buses with wide doors and ramps for passengers with mobility devices. There will be two areas to accommodate wheelchairs, including a new self-service wheelchair securement space.

More elbow room

According to Mick Rusch of Madison Metro Transit, the new buses can comfortably carry up to 120 passengers — approximately 40 more passengers than standard city buses.

The additional capacity is expected to alleviate strain on campus routes by reducing instances of drivers bypassing people waiting at stops because the bus is too full.

What about the hairpin turn?

Transportation Services is working closely with UW campus partners and Madison Metro to ensure the larger buses can safely navigate campus roadways. On a recent test drive, the driver successfully maneuvered around Route 80’s tight corners — including the hairpin turn on Observatory Drive.

More information coming soon!

Details regarding bicycle transport, accessibility and tips for campus bus riders will be shared throughout the summer. Also follow Madison Metro Transit for updates .
