It is issued to travelers who plan to stay in Hong Kong for a short visit to engage in non-lucrative activities like tourism, visiting family, or attending a conference or cultural event. It can also be obtained for travelers transiting through Hong Kong on their way to another destination.

The validity and duration of stay will depend on the applicant’s nationality. Holders of this visa type are not permitted to take up employment, engage in business activities, or study in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Tourist Visa Requirements

To apply for a Hong Kong tourist visa, all applicants must provide the following documents:

The applicant should hold a valid passport or travel document.

Applicants should complete the tourist visa application form accurately with all the required personal and travel details.

The photo should be attached to the first page of the application form.

In that case, the sponsor must submit the relevant documents on the applicant’s behalf including an Application for Entry for Visit/Transit (Sponsor) form ID 1003B and a photocopy of either a Business Registration Certificate (company) or a Hong Kong identity card and passport (individual).

Applying for a Hong Kong tourist visa can be completed by following a few simple steps. Applicants can follow these steps to submit their visa application and required materials: 

Applicants should collect all the required documents for their specific purpose of travel.

Visa application forms and required materials can be submitted online through the official immigration portal , by post, or in person at a Hong Kong embassy or consulate.

If their application is approved, applicants will receive a link to complete the visa payment. They can pay online or in person at the nearest Hong Kong embassy or consulate. The payment method will depend on where they submit the visa application.

Once the application is submitted and the payment completed, approved visas will be sent to the applicant as an eVisa by email. The eVisa can be downloaded and printed by the new visa holder on their own. In some cases, if the applicant pays in person at a Hong Kong foreign mission (embassy or consulate), they will receive the eVisa as a PDF directly.

A Hong Kong tourist visa will cost $230. Visa fees can be paid using a variety of methods depending on where they submit the application. Payment can be made through the link, using a credit/debit card, Payment by Phone Service (PPS), or Faster Payment System (FPS).

Unlike a visa for other nations, Indian passport holders who want to visit Hong Kong are required to apply for Pre-arrival registration (PAR) before they visit the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) visa free. Indian nationals are not required to apply for pre-arrival registration for direct transit by air and not leaving the airport transit area. 

Eligibility criteria for Hong Kong visa

To enter HKSAR, an Indian passport holder can apply for pre-arrival registration online free of charge if: 

• The passport they hold is valid for at least six months.
• They intend to visit or transit (except in direct transit by air and not leaving the airport transit area). 
• They don’t intend to stay in the HKSAR for more than 14 days. 

Indian nationals belonging to the following categories may visit HKSAR without pre-arrival registration, provided normal immigration requirements are met:

• Indian official or diplomatic passport holders.
• Valid HKSAR Travel Pass holders. 
• Holders of United Nations Laissez Passer visiting the HKSAR or transiting the HKSAR for official United Nations business to/ from a third country. 
• Indian nationals who have enrolled for e-Channel service for frequent visits. 
• Indian passport holders who have received a valid entry visa for the HKSAR. 

In addition, Indian aircrew and seacrew members on board vessels, or a contract seaman can also go to HKSAR without pre-arrival registration, provided they meet normal immigration requirements. 

Indian nationals must get a relevant visa from Immigration Department, if they:

• Need to visit the HKSAR for a period of more than 14 days.
• Or the purpose of visit to the HKSAR is employment, study, or to take up residence in the HKSAR. 

Hong Kong visa application process

Here is the procedure to apply for a Hong Kong visa from India:

• Visit the designated website of the Hong Kong Government for pre-arrival registration. 
• Provide the correct information in the pre-arrival registration form same as it is on your passport.
• Once you enter the information, the computer system will process the registration automatically and the registration result will be out instantly. 
• After successful registration, print the “Notification Slip for Pre-arrival Registration for Indian Nationals” generated by the computer system.
• Crosscheck the information on the slip to verify if all the details are correct before signing it.
• If the pre-arrival registration is not successful, you should apply for a valid Hong Kong entry visa at the Immigration Department to visit HKSAR. 

Validity of registration

• Pre-arrival registration is valid for a period of 6 months from its issuance.
• Subject to meeting normal immigration requirements, you can use a valid notification slip together with a valid Indian passport linked to the pre-arrival registration to make multiple visits to the HKSAR visa free, during the validity of the pre-arrival registration. 
• You can stay in the HKSAR for up to 14 days on each visit.
• You can make a new registration after the current registration expires.

Documents required for Hong Kong PAR

Based on the visa type, here is the checklist of documents required for a Hong Kong visa for Indians:

Family visit visa

• A duly signed visa application form filled with correct information about the applicant.
• A cover letter mentioning the applicant’s name and the travel schedule. 
• Copy of a certificate serving as proof of relationship of the applicant with the family member you are visiting Hong Kong. Such as a document that includes a spouse’s/ parent’s name, marriage certificate, or birth certificate.
• Financial documents, such as bank statements, salary slips, tax receipts, employment contracts, etc.
• A copy of the first and last pages of your passport. 
• A copy of the flight itinerary containing all details about your trip to Hong Kong. 

Documents that a visa sponsor should submit

• A copy of the invitation letter.
• Visa application form filled by the sponsor.
• A copy of the sponsor’s passport or Hong Kong ID card.
• Sponsor’s financial documents, such as bank statements, salary slips, tax receipts, employment proof, etc.

The fee for the issuance of a tourist visa for Hong Kong depends on the procedure that you follow. With PAR, you will have to pay the fee after arrival to the HKSAR (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) as PAR is free of cost. Hong Kong has always been a tourist hotspot owing to its many tourist attractions. Most tourists are not required to apply for a visa to visit Hong Kong.

Citizens of 170 countries are required to fill a landing slip once they arrive in the country which will include the conditions and limits of their stay. India is included in the list of countries.

Pre-arrival Registration

Citizens of these countries will have to fill in a pre-arrival registration form before entering the country. With this they can stay up to 14 days in the country. This registration can be done online, the documents required are:

The “e-visa” arrangement (implemented with effect from 28 dec 2021).

With effect from 28 December 2021, the Immigration Department (“ImmD”) has implemented the “e-Visa” arrangement. An applicant for an entry visa/permit, extension of stay or change of status, etc. will be issued with an “e-Visa”, such as a “Notification Slip for Entry Visa/Permit” or “Notification Slip for Conditions of Stay”, upon approval of the application and payment of the relevant fee (where applicable).

“e-Visa” is a collective term for the relevant notification slips in a PDF file format. The samples are appended at the bottom of this page.

With the implementation of the “e-Visa” arrangement, the ImmD has ceased issuing sticker-type physical labels for entry visa/permit and extension of stay, etc.

Online Payment

For applications approved on or after 28 December 2021 (regardless of whether the applications are submitted before or after that date), applicants may pay online through the online payment webpage link provided in the notification of the application result, and then download or print the “e-Visa” by themselves upon payment.

Payment at an Immigration Office

If the applicant or his/her representative attends an Immigration Office in person for payment and collection of the “e-Visa”, he/she will be issued with an “e-Visa” printed on a sheet of A4 white paper on the spot.

A20: Upon arrival clearance, an “e-Visa” holder should present his/her valid travel document, an exit endorsement issued by the relevant Mainland authorities (where applicable), and the “e-Visa” saved on a personal mobile device or printed on a sheet of A4 white paper, and scan the encrypted QR code on the “e-Visa” with the optical reader at an immigration counter.
