Sharing is caring!

If you’re planning a Bermuda cruise, you’re in luck! Bermuda is an island with a rich history, friendly people and genuine pink sand beaches!

After cruising to Bermuda several times, I’ve put together a list of the very best things to do in Bermuda on a cruise. Whether you are looking for family-friendly activities, Bermuda beach excursions or something off the beaten path, these must-see Bermuda attractions won’t disappoint!

In this guide, I’ve included some useful Bermuda tips and information you need to know about this popular cruise destination, including how to get around and explore on your own.

Why Cruise to Bermuda?

The island of Bermuda has become a popular cruise destination for numerous reasons. A self governing British Overseas Territory, Bermuda has a comfortable sub-tropical climate. A misconception is that Bermuda is located in the Caribbean. However, Bermuda’s location is just 700 miles away from North Carolina, in the Atlantic ocean.

Convenient North-East Departures

Bermuda cruises have North East departures leaving from New York, New Jersey, Boston and Baltimore. This is a convenient for many Americans and Canadians who like to drive to their port or have a short flight.

Overnights in Bermuda

Many cruises to Bermuda offer overnight stays (2-3 days in Bermuda), allowing time for excursions to pink sand beaches, world renowned golf courses, and a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Options for Cruise Lines and Cruise Ships

There are many cruise ships that sail to Bermuda, from large cruise ships that dock in Royal Naval Dockyard, to smaller ships that may dock in Hamilton or St. George.

Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival all have regular cruises to Bermuda. Luxury lines like Viking Cruises and Regent Seven Seas have some sailings that include Bermuda as well.

Where Do Cruise Ships Dock?

Most cruise ships dock in King’s Wharf or Heritage Wharf, also known as the Royal Naval Dockyard , or just Dockyard. This cruise port is great spot, within walking distance to the National Museum of Bermuda, Snorkel Park Beach and the Bermuda Craft Market.

Getting Around in Bermuda

King’s Wharf is a short walk to public transportation options. A shuttle or the local bus will take you to the beautiful pink beaches on the south shore of the island. The ferries are the best way to get to Hamilton Parish and St. George, where you’ll find many attractions and natural wonders.

You can purchase 1-3 day passes for the bus and ferry at the visitor’s center in Dockyard, steps away from your cruise ship.

Suggestions for Cruisers When Planning Your Bermuda itinerary

Remember that your ship will be docked at the cruise port for a night or two, depending on your itinerary. It’s a good idea to plan excursions that will be further from the cruise ship on day 1 and day 2. Then save the last day for activities that are close to the ship in the Royal Navy Dockyard .

Top Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise

Hamilton Bermuda pastel buildings

Here are a few popular must-see Bermuda attractions. Please tailor this Bermuda cruise guide to your interests and pick a few attractions to focus on. If you love Bermuda, simply plan another cruise to return!

1. Horseshoe Bay Beach

horseshoe bay beach

Arguably the most famous beach in Bermuda, Horseshoe Bay Beach is about a 15 minute drive from the Royal Naval Dockyard cruise port. You’ll see long stretches of blush pink sand and striking rock formations, jutting out from the turquoise waters close by the shoreline.

You can get there by taking public transportation or a shuttle right from the cruise port. At about 7$ a person from port right down to the beach, the shuttle is very convenient. While there are other beaches nearby, including Warwick and Church Bay which you may also want to visit, you simply must see Horseshoe Bay!

Do not let the crowds scare you off – walk all the way past the crowds to the left. Continue past the first couple rock formations and it is Heaven!

2. Baby Beach

If you have young children check out Baby Beach immediately to the right. The rock formations insulate the cove area from rougher seas at the main beach and provide for great viewing of many fish and crabs!

3. Rum Bum Beach Bar and Beach House Restaurant

While you’re at Horseshoe Bay Beach, you can grab a bite to eat at the on-site take out restaurant along with a pretty good Rum Swizzle from the Beach Bar. While not inexpensive at about 10$ a drink, they’re quite good!

4. Tobacco Bay Beach

Located in St. George’s parish, Tobacco Bay Beach is considered to be one of the best Bermuda Beaches for snorkeling. While Tobacco Bay is known for it’s shallow and clear waters, perfect for seeing marine life, how Tobacco Beach got it’s name is interesting part of Bermuda’s history.

In the early 1600’s, a group of Castaways whose ship wrecked upon the reefs explored the island of Bermuda and it’s beautiful beaches. At this beach, they found wild tobacco growing. Hence, Tobacco Bay Beach was named .

Now don’t go looking for tobacco on your Bermuda cruise. There’s none to be found hundreds of years later, but the name “Tobacco Bay Beach” remains.

5. Hamilton City

Just a ferry ride away from Royal Navy Dockyard is Hamilton, the capital city of Bermuda. This truly is a beautiful small city to explore. If you enjoy history, consider spending a day in Hamilton to see the sights.

As you arrive in Hamilton, you’ll see Front Street, the main street lined with colorful pastel buildings facing the harbour. Hamilton is a great place to shop for jewelry, clothing, crafts made by local artisans, souvenirs and rum.

Tip:  There’s a department store called Marks & Spencers in walking distance from Hamilton Harbour.  It has a section in the back with delicious food imported from the UK. We buy some shortbread and jam cookies and striped mint candies called Humbugs. We bring them back as souvenirs for friends and family back home.

6. City of Hamilton Walking Tour

Hamilton Bermuda

Spend a couple of hours walking around the city of Hamilton on a self-guided walking tour or take a tour with the local town crier. Start on Front Street, then explore up and down Queen Street, Cedar Avenue and Church Street.

Some interesting sights to see include government buildings such as the Cabinet Building, the Sessions House and the impressive City Hall. An interesting fact about Bermuda’s rich history, is that Bermuda’s parliament is the oldest in the British commonwealth.

If you enjoy museums and art, make sure to stop in at the Bermuda National Gallery.

7. Cathedral of the Holy Trinity

In the parish of Hamilton, you’ll also find some of Bermuda’s oldest historic churches. In particular, the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity is worth a visit. On weekdays it’s open to guests who wish to climb the tower, where you experience incredible views of Hamilton city.

8. Hamilton Harbour Nights

Gombey Dancers in Bermuda

If your cruise ship will be in Bermuda on a Wednesday, you should plan on going to Hamilton’s Harbour Nights Festival. Hamilton Harbour Nights is a fun evening street fair with local vendors of handicrafts and delicious street food.

There are performers and a parade. You will also get to see a parade of local Gombey Dancers in traditional costumes. This is truly one of my all-time favorite Bermuda attractions. You won’t find this anywhere else!

How to get to Hamilton from the cruise port (Dockyard)

You simply take the 25 minute ferry ride from the ship dock to Hamilton. I suggest going a bit early as the ferry line does get long and it will be crowded. The ferry is 5$ per person each way, however depending on what you are planning during your visit to Bermuda, it may be worth buying a multi day pass for the ferry and bus.

Bermuda Cruise Tip

If you head into town a couple hours before, you can visit some of the Government buildings and beautiful churches and perhaps do a bit of shopping. You can also check out some of the popular local restaurants and people watch.

9. Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo (BAMZ)

If you are looking for things to do in Bermuda with kids, this Aquarium, Zoo and Museum is a favorite for families. The super large aquarium is the main attraction, and is a living replica of Bermuda’s coral reef – so you’ll see a wide variety of Bermuda marine life here. You’ll see outdoor pools with seals and turtles as well.

Once you see the aquarium, visit the small zoo and interesting museum. Do check their website for opening hours and tour times.

10. Crystal Caves and Fantasy Caves

crystal caves, bermuda

In the parish of Hamilton, you will find the famous natural beauty of the Crystal Caves. This unique cave, home to underground shimmering stalactites set over a clear ocean fed lake is a sight you won’t soon forget!

You’ll be intrigued to know that Mark Twain himself was the first tourist to visit!

If you’re thinking of going to Crystal or Fantasy Caves, here’s detailed review and helpful guide with how to get to Crystal Caves from Royal Naval Dockyard  using Bermuda’s public transportation.

11. The Swizzle Inn

This well known pub and restaurant is home to the famous Rum Swizzle. If you’re planning a day, consider coming here for a casual lunch or dinner after visiting Crystal Caves or another sight. Consider getting a pitcher or original rum swizzles and sharing.

The Swizzle Inn is located across the street from Crystal Caves.

12. Bermuda’s National Drink – the Rum Swizzle

Bermuda is known for 2 drinks, the Rum Swizzle and the Dark and Stormy, both made with Goslings Rum. I’ve had both, but the Rum Swizzle is one of my all time favorites. I now even make a version of this drink at home!

You’ll find Rum Swizzles at quite a few bars and restaurants in Bermuda, however the original is at the Swizzle Inn.

Follow along in our YouTube video as we head over to Crystal Caves, Swizzle Inn and Hamilton by ferry and bus.

13. Gibb’s Lighthouse

Located about 30 minutes away from the cruise port, accessible by bus or taxi, Gibb’s Lighthouse is a phenomenal spot to get a great bird’s eye view of western Bermuda and the cruise ship port.

There’s even a restaurant where you can enjoy afternoon tea. If you are a lover of Maritime History and British history, be sure to put this on your list of things to do while in Bermuda.

14. Parish of St. George Historical Reenactment

St. George is about 45 minutes away from  by ferry. It is a truly gorgeous ride, so well worth the trip!

St. George is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and this is a good place to do a walking tour. You’ll find historical landmarks and museums, including the T ucker House Museum, The Unfinished Church and Fort-St. Catherine.

What is the Must-Do ?

This town is quaint and slow paced and has some interesting sites to see, plus one of the quirkiest things you will see anywhere! The Ducking Stool in the town center, King’s Square.

St. George has 18th century historical re-enactments in King’s Square which include a Town Crier and “The Dunking of the Nagging Wench”.

Now, I bring my sense of humor when I travel and we just thought this was totally different.

Local actors participate and school children come watch. They just really have a fun time and involve the “audience” in the show. It is usually on Thursday’s at 12:30, however please check for the current schedule .

Things to do near the cruise ship in Bermuda – Royal Naval Dockyard/King’s Wharf

The Dockyard area near the cruise ship has quite a lot to do and see, however do plan your Bermuda itinerary carefully.

It may surprise you to know that even with 2 and 3 days in port, every year there are cruise passengers who miss the ship , as don’t return to the ship on time.

As a suggestion, use your first day or two to visit places further from the port and do excursions on your own. Your last day and evenings could be spent closer to the ship in the dockyard area.

Just note that the last day in Bermuda is always busier around the cruise port/Dockyard area.

15. Royal Naval Dockyard

The Royal Naval Dockyard has quite a few activities to do and places to visit, all within a short distance of your cruise ship. It’s well worth exploring and taking time to visit this part of Bermuda.

There’s even a free trolley if your feet are just a little tired from exploring Bermuda’s beaches and other attractions. You’ll find really pretty shops with Bermuda crafts and souvenirs, well as some nice, casual restaurants and pubs. There are museums, a beach area and several types of activities!

Since there’s so much to see, we toured Royal Navy Dockyard and created this video below (where you’ll see some of our favorite things!)

16. Snorkel Park Beach

This man-made beach is literally a 5 minute walk from the cruise ship dock. It’s a very calm small beach to visit if you have young children as well as if you’re looking for a beach day on the last day of your cruise. At 5$ to enter, its a great deal for nice, fun beach day.

They have snorkel gear that you can rent, or you can bring your own. Kayaks and other water sports equipment is available for rent.

17. Dolphin Quest

Right next to Snorkel Park, you’ll find Dolphin Quest. If you or your children have dreamed of swimming with dolphins and learning about them, this is offered within walking distance of the ship. Booking ahead is suggested.

18. National Museum of Bermuda

If you or your children enjoy learning about Bermuda’s History as well as seeing artifacts from sunken treasures, this is a great way to spend a few hours. There is also a play area for young children. The museum located in the Keep, Royal Naval Dockyard is free for children 16 and under and does have a charge for adults. Check their website for opening hours and rates.

19. Clock-tower Mall and Local Shops in Dockyard

The Clock-tower Mall, which is visible in many of the the pictures you’ll see of the Bermuda Cruise Port, is filled with small local shops. If you want to bring back some Bermuda perfume, some artist’s paintings or prints, handmade jewelry and other crafts, this is the place to find it.

Other shops in Dockyard include a rum cake shop and the glass blowing shop where they demonstrate their work. Some great clothing stores feature nautical themed clothing and made in Bermuda jewelry, candles and other collectibles.

*Many of the shops and some local artists and shopkeepers are featured in this Bermuda Dockyard video on YouTube .

20. Bermuda Treats to Eat or Take Home

My favorite souvenirs to bring home usually include some local treats. You can find some good options right in dockyard, close to your cruise ship.

21. Bermudas’s Moongate in Dockyard

bermuda cruise port moongate

Bermuda has several Moongates located around the island. Lucky for us cruisers, there is one right in Dockyard fairly close to the cruise ships.

Legend has it that if couples walk through the Moongate together, they’ll be blessed with a long and happy life together.

My husband and I first walked through this Moongate in 2008 during our first visit to Bermuda by cruise. Since then we’ve gone through it each and every time we’ve returned.

I’ve come to realize that this Moongate is part of many people’s Bermuda stories, from anniversaries, to engagements to just being together and stopping for a moment to create a vacation memory.

Let it become one of yours – find the Moongate (and take a photo).

Bermuda Shore Excursions

It’s been said that Bermuda is best seen from the water. There are some great excursions including catamaran snorkeling , wave runners, glass bottom boats and more.

While you certainly don’t have to book and excursion, as there is plenty to do and see on your own, there is value to a local excursion. You can book these with your cruise ship, or directly with a local tour operator.

It can be a good idea to book online before you go as excursions are popular and can sell out.

22. Snorkeling and Boat Excursions

I quite like catamaran and boat excursions as for me it is the right amount of “organization”, local information from the tour operator or guide, and activity to make it an enjoyable part of our visit.

The last couple of years we’ve had great excursions with Rising Son Tours. We’ve appreciated the gorgeous catamarans, friendly and informative crew, and rum swizzles of course!

We were provided with noodles, paddle-boards and had an overall great time floating in the crystal clear waters.

If you’re not fond of getting into the water, consider a romantic Champagne Catamaran excursion at sunset or a boat tour of some of the beautiful and famous homes of Bermuda.

Here’s my review, so you can see what is offered and what to expect:  Bermuda Rising Son Cruises Catamaran Snorkeling Review

23. Port Royal Golf Course

Bermuda has some of the most beautiful and highly rated golf courses in the world, so if you are a golfer, put this on your wish list. Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton is the closest golf course to the ship and is easily accessible by bus or cab. Golf clubs, shoes and carts are all available to rent. However, if you are cruising to Bermuda it is very easy to bring your own golf clubs on board.

24. Tom Moore’s Jungle/Blue Hole Park

If you are looking for something different that is not often on the cruiser’s radar, make your way to Tom Moore’s Jungle in the parish of Hamilton. This nature reserve has wooded paths, mangroves, caves and grottos, including well known Blue Grotto. You’ll see a variety of birds and fish as well.

There’s always an interesting story in Bermuda: this nature reserve is named after Irish poet Tom Moore, who wrote poetry under a calabash tree in this reserve in 1844. The famous tree was destroyed in a hurricane several years ago, however its branches have begun to grow again.

25. Dining in Bermuda & Local Eats

Bermuda is a bit on the expensive side, as a lot is imported from the US or Britain. Since you are cruising, try to plan your day so that you can take advantage of eating some meals on the ship and some meals in Bermuda.

Some of the most popular pubs for both locals and tourists include the Hog Penny Pub or Flanagan’s Irish Pub in Hamilton. If you want to grab a bite close to the ship, a great spot is The Frog and Onion Pub.

A little place quite close to the cruise port that is distinctively local is Woody’s. It’s only about 5 minutes away by cab. I’ve unfortunately not eaten there yet, however I hear from the locals that they make a fabulous fish sandwich!

If you’ve been to Bermuda and know other great spots I should add to my list, please leave a comment below.

Final Thoughts on the Best Things to do in Bermuda for Cruisers

I hope that this list of the best things to do in Bermuda on a cruise can help you enjoy Bermuda as much as I have!

Although Bermuda is a small island, remember to build a little itinerary so that you plan things that are in the same area. Divide up your must-see Bermuda attractions into your 2-3 days. Whatever is left, just means you must return on another cruise!

My favorite thing o do was on the other end of the island is an old NASA tracking station. Looking around old buildings and tracking equipment from the 60’s was cool. It also has over a two mile long runway from the old space. Shuttle days. Built for emergency landings of shuttle.

Hi Russell,

That is so interesting! I’ll have to look into this and probably one day do a good tour of the island!

Thanks for the great suggestion!

Bermuda cruise guide: Best itineraries, planning tips and things to do

Melinda Crow

Is Bermuda on your cruise radar? Many people don't realize they can cruise to Bermuda because the itineraries are usually seasonal. You can't escape January's snowstorms by hopping on a cruise to Bermuda the way you can with a Caribbean cruise.

Plus, the itineraries are unusual because they mostly depart from Northeastern U.S. home ports (instead of Florida) and don't include stops in other destinations because Bermuda is a long way from other ports of call. If you love island-hopping and waking up in a new port every morning, you should know a Bermuda cruise isn't that.

But cruising to a single destination might be the most relaxing cruise you've ever done. Start your dreaming with this Bermuda cruise guide. It's got everything you need to know, including when you can cruise to Bermuda, when to book and what to pack.

Why cruise to Bermuda?

bermuda travel by cruise

Bermuda sits just 774 miles off the coast of New York, making it a prime island escape for upper East Coasters looking to experience the archipelago's stunning pink-sand beaches. But why should anyone else cruise to Bermuda , especially when there are so many other beachy islands to choose from?

For starters, the historic town of St. George's and its fortresses built in 1612 are a UNESCO World Heritage site. If history isn't your thing, maybe you can get excited about watersports or golf. Perhaps you'd prefer to visit stalactite-dotted caves or sample rum swizzlers.

You could experience all of that by flying to Bermuda and staying in a quaint inn or beachfront hotel. As fun as that sounds, a quick check of airfares and lodging prices shows us you'll pay more for that experience.

The cheapest seven-night package deal we could find flying between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Bermuda, with a three-star, nonbeachfront hotel, was $1,480 per person, no meals included. Searches of cruise prices for matching dates consistently turned up options with lower prices, including $749 per person on Celebrity Eclipse in an outside cabin and $1,541 per person in a balcony cabin on Norwegian Gem. The cruises would include all meals onboard.

Cruising to Bermuda is easy from several East Coast port cities, with enough options among various cruise lines to stay within your budget — whatever that is. Plus, cruise fare includes food on board the ship and a relaxing (or fun-filled) day at sea getting there and back.

But the best reason to cruise to Bermuda is that cruise ships most often stay overnight in port. Guests come and go from the ship during stays of as long as fifty hours in port. You can pack in a lot of exploration into those hours.

When do cruises go to Bermuda?

bermuda travel by cruise

You might be surprised to learn that Bermuda cruises depart most months of the year. The prime Bermuda cruise season, however, takes place from April to October.

Norwegian Cruise Line operates the longest season, with cruises starting in every month except January and February. Premium and luxury lines like Silversea Cruises , Regent Seven Seas Cruises , Explora Journeys and Windstar Cruises offer seasonal transitioning cruises in spring and fall. Oceania offers one or two sailings per season that include Bermuda, throughout both the peak season and during the shoulder seasons.

Best Bermuda itineraries

The fun thing about Bermuda cruises is that you can easily find a cruise length that works best for you. Weeklong cruises stay in port longest for the most time exploring Bermuda — most often two nights. Fun four- or five-night getaways either don't stay overnight in Bermuda, or include a single overnight and a half-day stay on the second day. These can be easily added to a visit to East Coast departure ports, such as Manhattan, Boston and Baltimore.

Alternate ways to cruise to Bermuda include stopovers on some transatlantic cruises and on lengthier sailings that include stops in the Bahamas , the Caribbean or even on Canada and New England cruises.

Best Bermuda cruise lines

bermuda travel by cruise

As mentioned above, Norwegian offers the most sail dates, cruising from both Manhattan and Boston most of the year. Even though the line's itineraries are mostly seven nights, look for an occasional five-night choice, as well as lengthier cruises that include other destinations.

Carnival Cruise Line is easiest on your Bermuda budget, running multiple cruise lengths from multiple ports, starting at only four nights. Royal Caribbean leans heavily into five-night itineraries, but those can often be booked back-to-back with longer cruises to other destinations. MSC Cruises, a newer entrant in the Bermuda cruise market, sticks with seven-night cruises, though you can book those sailings back to back with ones that feature a week visiting Florida and the Bahamas for a 14-night island-hopping escape. All four of these lines are ideal for family or group travel.

To step up a notch, try Celebrity Cruises , which designs its ships with adults in mind. Celebrity sails a regular schedule of seven-night cruises from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, all featuring two nights in King's Wharf.

If you want a high-end experience and the aforementioned luxury lines aren't sailing when you want to travel, consider the exclusive ship-within-a-ship enclaves on MSC Cruises (Yacht Club) and Norwegian (The Haven).

Things to do in Bermuda

bermuda travel by cruise

Obviously, those pink beaches call like a siren song. Dockyard Beach and Snorkel Park Beach are the closest to the cruise pier in King's Wharf. Both are known for snorkeling. Butts Beach features picturesque rock formations scattered amid the sand, both in and out of the water. For long stretches of uninterrupted sand, try Elbow Beach.

When you've had your fill of beaches, you can explore multiple historical sites and popular landmarks in Bermuda.

Bermuda is Britain's oldest colony, so expect plenty of British charm along with a healthy dose of history. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, the town of St. George's doesn't have the only fortress on the island, just the largest. Fort St. Catherine was used by the British, the Bermudian militia and Royal Artillery units from 1612 until well into the twentieth century.

Museums abound in Bermuda, including the National Museum of Bermuda found at the Royal Naval Dockyard. Don't overlook the Bermuda Underwater Institute and the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo.

Related: Avoid these 10 mistakes when booking cruise shore excursions

Caves are also popular attractions in Bermuda. In fact, the airport sits on an island named Cave Island. Several caves are open to the public and shore excursions featuring them are common. Crystal and Fantasy Caves are part of one attraction offering tours, shopping and food. Cathedral Cave is located at Grotto Bay Beach Resort, but nonguests are allowed to visit the cave.

Lighthouses are scattered around the islands, but the two most popular to visit are Gibbs Hill and St. David's. All those lighthouses didn't do much to prevent disasters at sea. Bermuda is considered the shipwreck capital of the Atlantic Ocean. You can easily visit a few of the wreck sites by snorkeling, helmet dives and scuba. Others are a bit deeper and require certified scuba diving. Some are accessible from shore, but most require boat tours.

If you're into a bit of nighttime boating, consider an after-dark boat ride into the Bermuda Triangle, complete with ghostly tales.

Serious golfers delight in the seven courses in Bermuda — all worth checking out: Turtle Hill, Mid-Ocean, Port Royal, Tucker's Point, Ocean View, Newstead Belmont Hills and Five Forts. The rest of us can get into the putting action at Bermuda Fun Golf at the Royal Naval Dockyard.

Best Bermuda cruise ports

bermuda travel by cruise

Bermuda has three cruise ports: the main port at King's Wharf (also referred to as Royal Naval Dockyards), the capital city of Hamilton in the middle of the island and St. George's near the northeastern end. Most ships dock at King's Wharf because it's the only one that can service the larger ships.

If you can envision the map of Bermuda as a big fishhook, the Dockyards (and King's Wharf) are at the tip of the pointy part of the hook. Adjacent to the wharf, cruise passengers will find beaches, the National Museum of Bermuda, tour operators, mini golf and transportation options for getting around the entire cluster of islands, including ferry service to both Hamilton and St. George's.

Hamilton and St. George's are much smaller ports and only serve a handful of smaller ships each year. Look for cruises on Oceania, Windstar and Silversea that visit these.

When to book a Bermuda cruise

If you plan to cruise to Bermuda in the peak season, the best cabin selections and prices will be found months ahead of time. Black Friday deals might be the best option. You can find last-minute availability and often deals by booking outside the popular vacation months of June, July and August.

May and October both offer daytime temperatures near 80 degrees, making them ideal months to cruise to Bermuda, and you'll likely find the islands less crowded.

What to bring on a Bermuda cruise

bermuda travel by cruise

Bermuda is a bit dressier than, say, the Bahamas. Even shopping, touring or heading to the beach, you'll want to spiff things up a bit. Dress like you're headed to one of those golf courses or going sailing on a yacht, and you'll fit right in. A pair of Bermuda shorts and your best kicks will work just fine.

Bermuda weather is temperate, with only small seasonal variations. Average daytime highs rarely break 90 degrees, and the average lows almost never dip below 60 degrees. Layers are ideal; as with almost any island travel, you should plan for rain. Because your time in port might be lengthy, you'll need a backpack or tote to haul your stuff around all day.

Passports are not required on closed loop (departing and returning to the same U.S. port) dedicated Bermuda cruises but might be required by some cruise lines. Adult passengers without passports will need a certified copy of a birth certificate and a government-issued photo ID. Children under the age of 16 do not need a photo ID but must have a birth certificate.

Official rules aside, passports are strongly recommended, as they are required to return to the U.S. by air. In the event of an injury, illness or cruise alteration that requires a flight back to the U.S. rather than returning to the same port by sea, a passport would have to be procured while in Bermuda.

Bottom line

Cruising to Bermuda is often overlooked by those who don't live on the northern East Coast of the U.S. It's an island destination with a lot to explore, and luckily, cruise ships often give you the time to do that with overnight stays in port. Longer stays are actually the norm in Bermuda, not the rare exception. Those overnights lend themselves not only to deeper exploration but to a more relaxing trip. It's okay to sleep in and start your day a little later. It's fine to plan a late-afternoon adventure. You'll leave feeling like you really know the place.

The best part is that there are options to suit almost any schedule and budget — from family-friendly mainstream cruise lines to premium and luxe lines. And if all that isn't enough, cruises to Bermuda leave from ports of call worthy of exploration themselves. It's easy to add a Bermuda cruise to a stay in Manhattan or Boston. You're already there, so why not?

2025 Bermuda Cruises

Make 2025 the year you experience Bermuda’s perfect blend of island vibes and British charm. Our stunning Solstice® Series ship, Celebrity Silhouette®, will be back to bring you everything this sophisticated island escape has to offer.

For our 2025 Bermuda season, we’ve designed the perfect 7-night itineraries that sail round-trip from Cape Liberty, New Jersey. Get up close and personal with the Statue of Liberty on your way to Bermuda, where you’ll have three days and two nights to do as much—or as little–as you want. Kick back on the famous pink sands of Horseshoe Bay Beach and snorkel the crystal-clear waters. Uncover the island’s rich British history. Enjoy a night or two on the town, exploring the exciting restaurant and bar scene along Front Street. Our Bermuda vacations have something for every kind of island-hopper spelunking the island’s otherworldly caves, teeing it up at world-class golf courses, retail therapy at the stylishly curated boutiques, or simply lounging on the beach listening to the waves wash up while sipping a rum swizzle.

5 Perfectly Dreamy Cruises to Bermuda

Whether you want to spend several days just relaxing in and around bermuda or love the idea of combining the north atlantic island with nearby coastal destinations, there’s a perfect bermuda cruise for you..

The beautiful beaches and charming cities of Bermuda are closer than you might think.

Often confused as part of the Caribbean , Bermuda stands alone with its strong British heritage, world-famous regattas, and quintessential pink sands. The closest landmass off the coast of North Carolina, this small North Atlantic Island is not a far jaunt from the East Coast but feels a world away, which makes it a singular cruise destination.

A hallmark of any Bermuda cruise is time in the destination. Unlike other cruise itineraries, where you might pop off the ship for a couple of hours, sailings to Bermuda almost always include one or two overnights in port. This lets travelers get to know the island at a slightly more relaxed pace. Visitors have the option to head farther afield from where they’re docked, dine in a restaurant ashore, or experience a little local nightlife.

If you’re considering an ocean voyage to the cerulean shores of Bermuda, these cruises showcase five unique ways to sail there in style.

A quick getaway from Manhattan on Virgin Voyages

To book: Virgin’s 5-night Big Apple to Bermuda itinerary is priced from $2,340 per cabin

Yes, you can squeeze a full Bermudian vacation into only five nights if you sail round trip from New York City. Virgin Voyages, known for its adults-only policy and PTO-friendly cruises, offers a Big Apple to Bermuda itinerary for those who are short on time but not standards. Docked just shy of 24 hours in King’s Wharf, passengers are set free in the center of a six-acre complex known as the Royal Naval Dockyard. Surprisingly, this tourist hub does not feel tacky. Cruise passengers can take in architecture like the picturesque clocktower, some stellar shopping (don’t leave without a rum cake) and lunch at a decades’ old favorite, the Frog & Onion Pub. From here, the quickest way to Hamilton, the capital city, is a 20-minute ferry ride. Back aboard Virgin’s 2,762-passenger Brilliant Lady , “sailors” can expect edgy entertainment like an absurdist dance party with rave vibes called the “Untitled Dance Show Partything” and more than 20 appealing eateries—all included in the fare.

One week with Oceania Cruises featuring a stop in Rhode Island

To book: Oceania Cruises’ 7-night Bermudian Breeze voyage starts at $1,699 per person

Three of the eight days of this Oceania voyage are spent docked in Bermuda, which is nearly half the cruise. The 670-passenger Insignia is small enough to dock in downtown Hamilton, the centrally located capital, bringing you straight into the heart of the city. After two full nights, the ship repositions to the historic former capital of St. George at the northern end of the island for a full day spent strolling its cottage-lined cobblestone streets, fragrant with frangipani. What sets this sailing apart—aside from Oceania’s knack for culinary excellence—is a day spent in Newport, Rhode Island, on your way from New York to Bermuda. Home to splendid Gilded Age mansions, Newport displays its opulence best at the Breakers, former home of the Vanderbilt family. A tour along the dramatic Cliff Walk is a must, offered as an optional shore excursion through Oceania.

Bermuda plus Charleston and Martha’s Vineyard on Celebrity

To book: Celebrity Cruises’ 10-day Bermuda & Charleston starts at $1,388 per person

Celebrity Cruises runs a series of weeklong sailings from Cape Liberty, New Jersey, to Bermuda and back. But for those who have a few extra days, go for Celebrity’s Bermuda & Charleston itinerary. Not only does this cruise tack on an overnight in Charleston, South Carolina, to its 48 hours in Bermuda, but it also includes a call on famed summer enclave Martha’s Vineyard. Ashore, you’ll be up to your eyeballs in charming shops and shaded squares, but back aboard, there is still plenty that will impress. The 2,886-passenger Celebrity Silhouette seamlessly blends the outdoors into its ambience with private balconies in 85 percent of its rooms, plus the Lawn Club, a live grass lawn on the top of the ship for an impromptu picnic or game of bocce.

An epic Lesser Antilles sailing on Regent Seven Seas

To book: Regent Seven Seas’ 16-night Iconic Islands to Empire City is priced from $10,099 per person for fare including flights, hotel, and transfers

We’ve already noted that Bermuda is not the Caribbean, but if you want to explore both, Regent’s Iconic Islands to Empire City is an itinerary to remember. Departing from Miami for New York, this luxury, all-inclusive voyage calls on Bermuda in addition to seven other islands along the way. En route to Hamilton, why not stop off in Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Bart’s, Puerto Rico, and all three of the ABC islands? Sailing Regent’s 700-passenger Seven Seas Mariner , you won’t have to even think about lifting a finger; everything from airfare to Wi-Fi is built into the fare, including tips, shore excursions, and fine wines and spirits. This is the Bermuda cruise for those who have perhaps already spent time on the island and now want to expand their repertoire of tropical sandy beaches—in the lap of luxury.

One week with an ocean crossing on Windstar

To book: Windstar’s 7-night Bermuda Bliss cruise starts at $2,599 per person

Bound for Bermuda with the sea breeze in your hair is the vibe aboard Star Pride , one of Windstar’s distinguished yachts. This weeklong sailing is actually a crossing, taking up to 312 passengers from New York to San Juan, Puerto Rico, via the Atlantic Ocean. After two sea days, you’ll disembark for some time in St. George, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for being the earliest example of an English colonial town in the New World. Another two sea days bring you to the Port of San Juan, where passengers disembark and can opt for a brief land vacation. With a casual and intimate atmosphere aboard, this Windstar cruise is the right move for travelers who really want to unwind at sea with a Bermuda stint in between. Begin your mornings with yoga on deck, and if the weather allows, take a dip in the ocean from the water-sports platform.

Bayonne/Cape Liberty

bermuda travel by cruise

Formely known as a city of oil refineries, Bayonne is now a city of trade, services, technology and manufacturing. Located in the heart of the New Jersey-New York metropolitan area, Bayonne offers a unique combination of small town atmosphere and big city convenience. The municipality is proud to work with the Town Center to promote the retail stores, restaurants, professional services, and other businesses located in Bayonne’s Broadway area. The City of Bayonne has a new Urban Enterprise Zone, outstanding development properties, convenient mass transit connections, a great school system, and people who care.

Royal Naval Dockyard

bermuda travel by cruise

Otherwise known as the “Gibraltar of the West,” the Royal Naval Dockyard fortifications in Sandys Parish were built in 1809 to compensate for British ports lost in the American Revolution. Convicts transported from Britain and Bermudian slaves built the fortifications from local limestone. In fact, British war ships set sail from this dock to attack Washington, DC during the War of 1812. Britain built the Royal Naval Dockyard in the West End as a buttress against everything from Napoleon’s threats to pirate attacks. Walk across the moat bridge into the Keep, our island’s largest fort, and relieve the past at the impressive Bermuda Maritime Museum. Imaginative redevelopment transformed this old naval installation into charming shops and restaurants. Stop by to climb the ramparts, eat savory fish ‘n’ chips, and visit a snorkel park. Now only a quick ferry ride from Hamilton, visitors love to dive into its historical artifacts and island culture. Royal Naval Dockyard at the island's West End is one of Bermuda's most popular attractions. Once a working fort built by Britain's Royal Navy in the 1800s, it's now a place for the Maritime museum, a craft market, theater, arts center, shops, restaurants, a night club and more. The Bermuda Maritime Museum is more than a collection of old ship models. There are underground tunnels, 30-foot ramparts and everything pertaining to the island's nautical history. If you're looking to get off the beaten path so to speak, take a bike tour or go riding on your own. The Deserted Railway Trail gives you great panoramic views and there are plenty of fun places to stop along the way including the picturesque Gibb's Lighthouse. And be sure to enjoy the outdoors at its best with snorkeling, golfing, kayaking or afternoon sport fishing or splashing around the beach.

Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos

Grand Turk, the capital of the Turks and Caicos Islands, is a small island bursting with turn-of-the century Caribbean charm, retaining the look and feel of the Caribbean 40 years ago. Grand Turk is six miles long and just over a mile wide with a population of only 6,000. It is blessed with miles of uncrowded, beautiful beaches and is close to several uninhabited cays such as Gibb's Cay, home of the stingray encounter. Grand Turk is world-famous for its healthy and beautiful coral reefs that surround the island, stretching almost from the coastline to the 7,000-foot vertical wall just offshore.

Fun Things to Do:

  • Visit the many landside attractions and explore the Old Prison, Lighthouse Park, and the re-created salt salina, the real beauty of the island lies underwater.
  • Explore Turks & Caicos National Museum, located in one of the oldest stone buildings on the islands, chronicles Grand Turk's history from 700 A.D. to modern times and features artifacts from the Molasses Reef wreck.
  • Grand Turk Lighthouse, this lighthouse was brought from the U.K. to help halt shipwrecks on Grand Turk's reefs. Today, it's a prized historic site, protected by the National Trust.

Amber Cove, Dominican Republic

Tucked on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, Amber Cove, named for the translucent gemstone found on its shores, sits just seven miles from the town Puerto Plata, a cinematic locale used as the backdrop for the first Jurassic Park film. Just steps from the dock take in the sparkling beach, which offers a plethora of water activities, and the serene, natural beauty from the comfort of a private bungalow.

  • See the marine adventure park that showcases the largest man-made dolphin habitat in the world. Here you can snorkel in the Reef Aquarium, feed exotic birds, walk through a tropical rainforest, watch a sea lion show, and much more.
  • Enjoy a myriad of activities at the public beach.
  • Nature lovers and thrill seekers will enjoy Amber Cove's diverse landscapes, which offer a variety of outdoor adventures – from a rainforest zipline, kayaking down a tropical to an outback country terracross excursion.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

San Juan vibrates to a lively salsa beat. There's an unmistakable zest in the air here. Perhaps it's the stunning natural setting: the verdant peaks, tropical forests, and gleaming white-sand beaches. Or maybe it's Puerto Rico's mix of cultures, the blend and occasional clash of four centuries of Spanish heritage overlaid with a century spent as America's only Commonwealth. Whatever the reason, San Juan is one of the most enticing ports in the Caribbean, and it only gets lovelier with age.

  • Explore El Morro de San Felipe, this 16th-century citadel is a maze of tunnels, dungeons, barracks, outposts and ramps. Named after King Phillip of Spain, this six-level fortress guarded the bay from sea invaders.
  • Visit Casa Bacardi which is home to the Bacardi family's extensive rum distillery, the visitor center has a fascinating tour with videos and olfactory exhibits, as well as a museum and replica of its very first distillery.
  • Enjoy the Cultural & Botanical Gardens of Caguas. Puerto Rico has a perfect climate for growing some of the prettiest flowers and plants imaginable. This large park has many paths that let you meander.

Bermuda (West End)

The Royal Naval Dockyard, the westernmost point in Bermuda, not only showcases Bermuda's nautical heritage, but it also provides a home for an impressive array of attractions and shopping opportunities. The fortifications of the Royal Naval Dockyard were built by British convicts and slave labor during the mid-1800s. The centerpiece of the Dockyard is the commanding Clocktower building, which once served as a naval store and the captain's offices. Today, it has been marvelously restored. Throughout the Dockyard, you will find several restaurants, art galleries, the Bermuda Craft Market, and the Bermuda Maritime Museum, as well as an array of specialty shops and boutiques.

  •  Spend the day in Hamilton, Bermuda's capital city is named after Sir Henry Hamilton. It is a busy port and popular travel destination thanks to its colorful architecture and shopping.
  • Visit the Maritime Museum that is home to 500 years of history, displayed in military buildings, including the Commissioner's House. View cannons, shipwreck artifacts and maritime art.
  • See one of the oldest cast-iron lighthouses in the world, Gibb's Hill Lighthouse. It first flashed its light on May 1st, 1846 using kerosene, and can be seen by ships up to 40 miles away.

Activity Level 2:

This tour requires average physical activity. You should be in good health, able to climb stairs and walk reasonable distances, possibly over uneven ground and cobblestoned streets.

*Please see your Travel Agent to reserve your choice of shore excursions.*

Itinerary is subject to change at any time without notification and/or compensation.

I’ve Been Cruising for 20+ Years, Here Are the 15 Best Dinner Outfits to Pack for Your Next Trip — From $27

These stunning styles match any dress code — and budget.

bermuda travel by cruise

Travel + Leisure / Jaclyn Mastropasqua

When you think of a cruise, you might imagine walking around in flip-flops and a bathing suit all day. But for me, one of my favorite things about setting sail is the excuse to dress up. Many cruise lines have dress codes at night in their ship's formal dining rooms, and if you choose to eat at a specialty restaurant, you’ll want to show up looking your best. I've been cruising for over 20 years , which adds up to about 15 cruises, and have sailed everywhere from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean. Needless to say, I’ve learned a thing or two about what you’ll need once aboard.

Cruise dress codes have become more relaxed in recent years. However, I just got back from a five-night cruise to Bermuda on Royal Caribbean ’s Liberty of the Seas, and the itinerary included multiple theme nights. When there was no theme, guests were asked to wear smart casual outfits in dining rooms and on-board restaurants. I took this as an opportunity to turn the ship deck into my own personal runway with flowy maxi dresses , lightweight linen , and colorful floral prints. Here are 15 cruise outfits that will make you the best-dressed guest aboard your next cruise.

Anrabess One-shoulder Wide-leg Linen Jumpsuit

A night on a cruise ship isn’t just about good dining — you’ll often have the chance to see a show before or after your meal. This breezy wide-legged jumpsuit would be a comfortable option to wear all night long, especially while sitting for long periods. It’s made with lightweight linen for breathability and features a fashionable silhouette with a one-shoulder strap. The cinched waist and smocked back are ultra-flattering on different body types while the side zipper makes it easy to put on after a long day at the beach.

Grace Karin Criss-cross Halterneck Floral Maxi Dress

Every night might feel like a tropical night when you’re out at sea, but there was actually a dedicated theme night on my most recent cruise that required a specific look. I packed a flowy blue maxi dress with a halterneck and Hawaiian-inspired flower print and ended up wearing it to Chops Grille , which is arguably Royal Carribean’s nicest specialty restaurant. While my dress is an older style from For Love & Lemons , I found a dress with a similar one on Amazon for a much more affordable price.

Abercrombie Linen-blend Shell Mini Dress

Abercrombie

Linen clothes and beach vacations may go hand-in-hand, but this mini Abercrombie dress is versatile enough to become a most worn item in your wardrobe — which is always helpful to take into consideration if you’re using girl math to justify your trip's clothing purchases. On a cruise ship, I’d wear this dress with sandals, but it instantly becomes city-ready when paired with cowboy boots. The high neckline balances its mini length and it features vertical stitching to accentuate your curves.

If you’ve ever sailed with Virgin Voyages, you know the cruise line features Scarlet Night , a full-ship activation where guests are invited to dress in red. This dress would be perfect to pack, and it also comes in black, gray, and white for those who prefer neutrals.

Reformation Annabella Lace Trim Linen Minidress

Another common cruise theme night is for guests to be asked to wear all-white outfits. A white dress is a timeless closet staple that you’ll wear again and again. If you don’t already have one, why not invest before your trip? In my opinion, no one does white dresses better than Reformation, and this button-down dress is the perfect combination of classic and trendy. The lace trim gives an otherwise simple shirt dress a more feminine touch.

The high-quality materials make it worth the splurge — it’s made from 100 percent linen, which is lightweight, breathable, and durable. One Nordstrom shopper said they kept receiving compliments on this dress, while another called it “my favorite summer dress.” Hurry, it's selling out fast.

Travel + Leisure / Rebecca Shinners

PrettyGarden Floral Maxi Dress

I wore a red maxi dress with pink flowers on my cruise, and you should too. Or, you could go with one of the 29 other colorways of this flowy maxi dress, ranging from solid light blue to pink and blue stripes. My dress is from Faithfull the Brand , and while its 100 percent linen fabric made it worth the splurge to me, I can’t deny that this more affordable version from Amazon is just as eye-catching.

A long, tiered maxi skirt makes this a comfortable option for walking through windy decks. The one-shoulder tie is stylish but also practical, making the dress more adjustable. It’s no wonder the dress has more than 3,700 five-star ratings. One reviewer , who called it “very comfortable” and “flattering,” said, “If you are on the fence, go ahead and buy it — you won’t regret it!”

Nashalyly Tiered Maxi Skirt

Tiered white maxi skirts have become a popular trend recently, but they’re also a match-anything closet staple. My mom wore this boho-inspired style multiple times on our recent trip, inspiring me to add a similar Aerie skirt to my own wardrobe. However, you can achieve the same look with this top-rated style from Amazon , which is available in a slew of colors and made with a lightweight gauze material that can be dressed up for a smart casual outfit, or worn casually during the day.

Meshki Suki Knit Maxi Dress With Flowers

Crochet is another fabric that goes hand-in-hand with a tropical vacation. This maxi dress was a bit out of my comfort zone but ended up being one of my favorite outfits of the trip. I felt so good in it all night long. My dress is Caroline Constas from Marshall’s , and while it isn’t available online, this Meshki version is basically identical. It features the same 3D crochet florals but has the bonus of coming in five different colors. The black with white flowers might have to go into my cart for my next vacation.

FQA Long Evening Gown

If you’re the type of person who enjoys dressing up, a cruise is your time to shine. Most cruises I’ve been on have included one or two formal nights, but on my most recent trip, this was replaced with a "wear your best" night. While some people dressed down, others wore gowns. Personally, I never mind being the most dressed-up person in the room. After all, a cruise does offer great family photo opportunities.

This dress features a thick material with spandex for some stretch, which makes it comfortable and flattering, while the leg slit will keep you cool. “The V-neck and sleeveless design gave it an elegant yet comfortable feel, and the split wrap style added a touch of flair. I received so many compliments throughout the evening,” said one reviewer, who wore this dress on a cruise . A versatile piece you can re-wear is always a win, and this dress would also be appropriate for a black tie wedding.

Grace Karin Sequin Wrap Mini Dress

One of my all-time favorite cruises took place during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, ending with a balloon drop on the ship’s promenade. If I were to ring in the new year in a tropical destination again, this Amazon-loved number is the dress I’d want to be wearing.

Similar to a sparkly option I've been eyeing from Pacsun, this pick is sure to help you stand out with its shimmery navy sequins and sexy wrap front. The dress has some stretch to it to keep you comfortable throughout dinner in the dining room. Throw a pair of silver kitten heels in your suitcase and you’ll be ready for a long night of celebrations.

Anrabess One-shoulder Smocked Two-piece Set

A matching set is a one-and-done travel outfit that you can rely on to look and feel good on board. I wore a floral two-piece from Marshall’s to dine at Sabor, Royal Carribean’s Mexican specialty restaurant, but I’m eyeing this Amazon set for my next cruise. The one-shoulder top is smocked all over, which I find hugs your body in a way that’s both comfortable and flattering. It’s paired with a maxi skirt in a simple but pretty silhouette. Plus, it has pockets — perfect for stashing your state card, which is pretty much the only thing you need on a cruise ship.

This set comes in 18 colors, including both prints and solids. While it would be perfect for a smart casual night, it also comes in white and floral prints, depending on what themes you’re packing for. Reviewers who have worn this set everywhere from Hawaii to Mexico praise its lightweight material as being perfect for summer. "The material is very soft and flattering," said one shopper . And, if you’re going on a longer trip, you can mix and match this set with other tops and bottoms to make the most of your vacation wardrobe.

Resistor Midi Slip Dress

There are other patterns besides florals to make a statement. To add charm and fun to your cruise outfits, I recommend opting for something like the Resistor Midi Slip Dress that's decorated in unique, geometric squiggles for intrigue. the simple yet elegant nature of the slip dress will match any cruise itinerary. Plus, Personally, I was eyeing this Madewell x Lisa Says Gah! illustrated dress inspired by the Greek Isles and deep blue seas; I can’t think of a better way to spend a night than watching the sunset over the ocean while wearing lemon wedges and wine bottles on my dress.

Wayf Two-piece Poplin Pleated Skirt Set

I’m the type of person who likes to dress on theme for where I’m headed, and this set says, "New England cruise." I’d imagine sailing from Maine to Canada in the matching poplin shirt and pleated skirt. Plus, it fits the smart casual dress code of most cruise lines. The long-sleeved top would keep you comfortable in a cold dining room, but the sleeves can also easily be rolled up. I’d likely wear this outfit with loafers or ballet flats, but it could also be made more warm-weather appropriate with slip-on sandals .

Cider Tube Ruched Ruffle Mini Dress

This might look like just another white dress at first glance, but stick with me here to see the vision. Disney Cruise Line is known for having a pirate theme night during some itineraries, and this dress would be the perfect base for your outfit. Just add accessories and, shiver me timbers, you’ll look like an extra straight out of Pirates of the Caribbean .

On other ships, the dress would be a great pick for an all-white night or a more casual night where you skip the formal dining room and head straight for the buffet. “This is the perfect summer dress that you can dress up or down,” said one reviewer . “The quality was good and it fit very well.”

Peppermayo Ayla Satin Mini Dress

This yellow slip dress was one of the first things I packed for my trip, and I felt so good in it that I brought it to the beach in Bermuda for a fun photo shoot. Not only was butter yellow one of the biggest color trends of this past summer, but it also looks great against a fresh sun tan. However, this dress is also available in blue if you prefer.

As someone with a smaller chest, I was worried about how the bust would fall on me, but it ended up being ultra-flattering due to the ruching. It’s also a higher cut and provides more chest coverage in comparison to other similar dresses I’ve tried. The delicate lace and satin material feel elegant while the open back makes it perfect for warmer nights at sea. If you do choose to order this dress, keep in mind that there’s no stretch (though the tie back is adjustable) and Peppermayo tends to run small. I went up one size, following the size chart for just the right fit.

Newshows Lightweight Button-down Cardigan

You may have dinner dresses, matching sets, and jumpsuits on your packing list, but trust me, this cardigan is the one piece of clothing you won’t want to set sail without. Cruise ships are notorious for blasting the air conditioner inside and you won’t want to be forced to cover your chic dinner outfit up with a sweatshirt. Toss this cardigan into your suitcase to stay warm without sacrificing your outfit. It comes in 35 different colors to match any look, but I prefer to go with white so I only have to pack one.

Why Cruise Demand Is Even Bigger Now Than Pre-Pandemic

bermuda travel by cruise

Many or all of the products on this page are from partners who compensate us when you click to or take an action on their website, but this does not influence our evaluations or ratings. Our opinions are our own.

When the Grand Princess — a cruise ship that carried thousands of passengers bound for Mexico — instead sailed into an Oakland, California, port in early 2020, the ship quickly became a symbol of the COVID-19 pandemic. The vessel's passengers were among the first documented cases of coronavirus in the U.S. And as they waited — quarantined in their onboard staterooms — the image of a floating city-state adrift in a sea of uncertainty became a defining image of the era.

Journalists , politicians and infectious disease experts have referred to cruises as “petri dishes.”

Yet, despite the early skeptics and pandemic-induced challenges, the cruise industry has not only survived but thrived. In fact, demand for cruises is now even higher than it was before the pandemic.

Cruises make a comeback

The number of cruise transactions worldwide in the first quarter of 2024, including bookings and onboard purchases, was about 16% more than the same period in 2019, according to a 2024 report from the Mastercard Economics Institute.

More money is floating into cruises, too. Mastercard found that, as of May 2024, nine out of the last 10 all-time record spending days in cruises occurred in 2024.

Spending on cruises is not just up pre-pandemic, but over the past year. According to Bank of America credit and debit card data from May 2024, spending on cruises is up 12% year-over-year.

Why are cruises so hot in 2024?

A few factors indicate why cruises are sailing toward growth:

Pent-up demand: Cruises are, in part, riding the general wave of pent-up demand for travel. People who skipped cruises (or trips as a whole) in the early years of the pandemic might now be ready to return.

Appeal to older demographics: While there are certainly great cruises for families or cruises for young couples, cruises tend to have special appeal to older folks. According to Bank of America’s internal data from January through May 2024, baby boomers, (which the company defines as people born between 1946 and 1964) make up around half of total spending on cruises.

Unique offerings: Cruises these days are appealing to younger demographics, too.

Disney Wish, which is the newest in Disney Cruise Line’s fleet, capitalizes on "Frozen" fandom with a one-of-a-kind “Frozen”-themed restaurant that includes an Olaf puppet, live music (performing songs from the film, of course) and technology such as invisible fiber optics embedded in the ceiling designed to look like Elsa’s magic.

That’s not the only example of unique experiences that can only be had at sea.

The Sun Princess by Princess Cruises offers a cruise line version of the Magic Castle, which is a famously tough-to-get-into, exclusive club in Los Angeles. The cruise line version, called Spellbound by Magic Castle, guides guests through magic-themed rooms and serves them clever cocktails. The biggest difference between the Los Angeles version versus the cruise version is that the latter is quite easy to get into. All you need is to book a sailing on the Sun Princess and reserve your spot, which means paying an additional $149 admission fee.

Other unique cruise line bars include the Skyy Vodka Ice Bar aboard certain Norwegian Cruise Line ships. The entire bar (including seats and glasses) is made entirely from ice.

More cruises on the horizon

As many of the biggest cruise operators are expanding their fleets, cruisers now have even more choices. Disney’s current fleet of five ships is an example of an operator in the midst of massive growth.

Among the new ships to join Disney’s fleet include a Japan-based cruise, which is expected to launch in early 2029. Then in August 2024, Disney announced four additional ships, which are expected to be ready between 2027 and 2031. That means Disney’s fleet of five will grow to 13 by 2031.

The first of those new ships, the Disney Treasure, will take its maiden voyage in December 2024. The Haunted Mansion Parlor, which is a bar themed to the iconic theme park attraction, is among the ship’s most-anticipated features.

Carnival Corporation, the world's largest cruise company, also made waves this year when it announced a new ship would join its namesake Carnival Cruise Line brand. The ship, which is expected to be ready by 2027, marks Carnival’s first newbuild order in five years — suggesting the company is ready to invest after a pandemic-era lull.

Sure, the pandemic cast a long shadow over the cruise industry. But going forward, the industry appears to be full steam ahead.

Cruise News: A First Look at Norwegian Cruise Line’s all-new Norwegian Aqua, set to sail in March 2025

Meet norwegian aqua: what to expect on board.

Published on 18 September 2024

In 2023, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) introduced Norwegian Aqua as the latest evolution in its Prima Class fleet and the first ship in the expanded Prima Plus Class. Cruise TV by LoveitBookit’s presenters, Dan & Sam, have been invited on an exclusive ship visit to get a sneak preview of Norwegian’s newest ship, before her official maiden voyage in March 2025. From  accommodation to experiences, what can we expect from the all-new Norwegian Aqua?

More Expansive Spaces On Board

Spanning 1,056 feet long and weighing 156 gross tons, the all-new Norwegian vessel will have more space per passenger than her predecessors, Norwegian Viva and  Norwegian Prima . Fincantieri, an esteemed Italian shipbuilding company, built Aqua with 10 percent increase in size and capacity from her sister ships, accommodating 3,571 guests at double occupancy. She will also offer greater wide-open spaces and the highest passenger-crew ratio of any new contemporary cruise ship to provide guests with more flexibility and exceptional service on board!

All-new Aqua Accommodations

Every stateroom and suite in Norwegian Aqua is designed with luxury and comfort in mind. Boasting the largest Haven complex among the NCL fleet with 123 well-furnished suites, Aqua will launch the cruise line’s first-ever Three-Bedroom Duplex Haven Suites , offering an even more spacious home at sea within the brand’s signature private ship-within-the-ship oasis. These two-story suites feature separate living and dining areas; a massive balcony; three bathrooms; and three bedrooms, including a master with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking endless ocean views!

New Dining & Drinking Options

A spectacular array of new and elevated dining experiences await on board Norwegian Aqua. Aiming to serve a more extensive selection of menus than ever before, Aqua introduces fresh dining venues and concepts to suit every mood and taste. Among these is NCL’s first Thai speciality restaurant, Sukhothai , offering traditional Thai cuisine infused with modern flavours. Prima Class’ signature Indulge Food Hall will also include a Planterie , an eatery with a full plant-based menu. In addition to these dining venues, an upscale wine lounge, Swirl Wine Bar , offers the perfect intimate and elegant space to raise a glass!

Guest-first Entertainment & Activities

Norwegian Aqua will deliver the most groundbreaking entertainment and activities opportunities, ensuring non-stop and guest-first experiences at sea. These pioneering advancements include the Aqua Slidecoaster – the world’s first hybrid roller coaster and water slide. This dual, adrenaline-pumping slide will take guests into a whirlwind of twists and turns across three levels in rip-roaring speeds, whilst surrounded with breath-taking views!

She will also premier the Glow Court – an avante-garde sports complex featuring an interactive LED sports floor lit with bright neon lights, which transforms into a nightclub in the evening. This state-of-the-art sport court space is engineered for immersive play, perfect for hanging out with friends and family for an epic game.

Along with these exciting, novel additions, guests can continue enjoying some of the Prima Class favourites on board, including  The Drop ; NCL’s 10-story free-fall slide, The Stadium ; an expanded game space with free activities, and a refurbished Mandara Spa offering a new wave of rejuvenating treatments plus so much more! Guests can also look forward to plenty of original Norwegian outdoor spaces, such as the  Infinity Edge Pool , Vibe Beach Club , Ocean Boulevard , Infinity Beach and La Terrazza – all are intricately enhanced for the ultimate guest experience on board!

Premiering exclusively on the innovative Aqua are two original productions,  Revolution: A Celebration of Prince and Elements: The World Expanded , which will be showcased in the upgraded Aqua Theatre & Club . The first in-house show is a tribute to the award-winning music legend Prince, featuring a concert-like experience of his life story and iconic hits, such as  “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Little Red Corvette” and more. The next-generation ship is also taking its all-time guest-favourite show inspired by the four elements to a whole new level, with new surprises to bring world-class entertainment at sea!

Sailings & Itineraries

For her inaugural season, Norwegian Aqua will explore the Caribbean coast from Port Canaveral with seven-day itineraries, calling at Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic ; Tortola, British Virgin Islands ; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands ; and Great Stirrup Cay , NCL’s private island in the Bahamas.

Starting August through October 2025, she will set sail on five and seven-day journeys to Bermuda from  New York , followed by five and seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruises departing from Miami in October 2025 through April 2026.

Travellers can now book Aqua’s first voyages to the Caribbean . Be one of the first to experience this impressive vessel that represents the future of Norwegian Cruise Line, with our exclusive  Blissful Bays & Cays: Miami, Caribbean & Bahamas cruise offer!

A NEW SHIP IS COMING SOON!

Following the debut of Norwegian Aqua, the up-and-coming Norwegian Luna is set to grace the high seas in March 2026 and make new waves in the World of Cruising! The next evolution of NCL’s Prima Plus Class will feature the same groundbreaking amenities and experiences on board Aqua, such as the Three-Bedroom Duplex Suites in The Haven, the first-of-its-kind hybrid roller coaster and waterslide, a ‘glowing’ sports complex, as well as an amazing, new slate of dining venues. Cruise on the moon: Norwegian reveals new ship debuting in 2026, Norwegian Luna

Portrait of Nathan Diller

  • Norwegian Cruise Line's new ship, Norwegian Luna, will launch in April 2026.
  • The vessel will be part of the line’s Prima Plus Class.
  • Luna will sail round-trip Caribbean cruises from Miami, Florida.

Norwegian Cruise Line guests can soon go to the moon – no space travel required.

The cruise line revealed details about its new ship, Norwegian Luna, which will launch in April 2026. The vessel will be part of the line’s Prima Plus Class.

“Inspired by the relationship between the moon and the tides of the ocean, we are excited to introduce Norwegian Luna as the vessel that perfectly complements her sister ship, Norwegian Aqua,” David J. Herrera, the line’s president, said in a news release. “The debut of Norwegian Luna truly showcases our ongoing commitment to providing guests more of what they enjoy and value – a brand-new ship with the latest, innovative offerings sailing to the beautiful, tropical destinations of the Caribbean.”

Where will Norwegian Luna sail?

The ship, accommodating 3,550 guests at double occupancy, will sail round-trip Caribbean cruises from Miami, Florida, beginning with a pair of Western Caribbean itineraries to Roatan in Honduras; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; and Norwegian’s Belize destination Harvest Caye.

Luna will then sail Eastern Caribbean cruises for the rest of its inaugural season, visiting Tortola in the British Virgin Islands; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands and the line’s Bahamas private island , Great Stirrup Cay.

What can passengers expect?

The ship’s theme will be evident from the time guests embark, courtesy of hull art from street artist ELLE, titled “La Luna.” The piece – measuring 1,056 feet long – will serve as “a visual exploration of humanity’s deep-rooted connection with the celestial forces in space as human beings are intrinsically linked to the ebb and flow of the moon,” the line said in the release.

Luna will also boast a number of features making their debut on Aqua, such as a combination waterslide and roller coaster, the Aqua Slidecoaster ; Thai specialty restaurant Sukhothai; and the Glow Court, a digital sports complex that turns into a nightclub as the sun goes down.

Other familiar amenities will include a free-fall slide, The Drop , allowing thrill-seeking guests to plummet 10 stories; Cagney’s Steakhouse; the sustainability-focused Metropolitan Bar ; French eatery Le Bistro; the adults-only Vibe Beach Club and more.

The cruise line will share other specifics about Luna’s guest experiences “in the upcoming new year,” according to the release.

An African safari cruise?: This Norwegian sailing takes you on a bucket list adventure

How much does Norwegian Luna cost?

Prices vary by sailing date, stateroom category and other factors, but available itineraries currently start at $1,394 per person based on double occupancy, according to Norwegian’s website .

The fare includes many meals on board, beverages like iced tea and regular coffee and more.

Even on a budget, cruising offers exceptional value, allowing you to explore iconic cities and sail along breathtaking coastlines at a reasonable price tag while unpacking just once. With the world's best budget cruise lines , you can sail through iconic cities and along breathtaking coastlines, all while the operator handles the planning.

Onboard, you'll discover a world of amenities that make cruising an unforgettable experience. From diverse entertainment and activities to meticulously planned itineraries, cruise lines handle all the logistics, ensuring a stress-free vacation. If you prioritize relaxation, great food, and sightseeing, cruising, even on a budget, is the perfect choice.

While planning ahead is generally recommended, booking a trip at the last minute can sometimes lead to unexpected savings, helping you find the best cheap cruise deals for that same month. However, availability is key, as popular itineraries may sell out quickly. Still, there's time to score some superb deals on last-minute trips; here are some of the best end-of-season cruise deals for September 2024.

In our quest for the most budget-friendly end-of-season cruises in September, we carefully considered travel aggregator websites such as Expedia Cruises and TripAdvisor. Our criteria included cruise prices, ratings (with a minimum of 3.0 stars), and the overall experience offered. The starting prices mentioned here specifically apply to the most affordable rooms available via TripAdvisor or Expedia during the published dates in September.

10 Affordable Family Cruises To The Bahamas

Enjoy an affordable, fun experience in the Bahamas by booking one of these incredible cruises.

6 3 Night Cruise To The Bahamas

Starting price: usd $175 per person.

Book a Mediterranean-Inspired Escape aboard the MSC Magnifica, a stunning vessel where contemporary style meets family-friendly cruising. Influenced by the Mediterranean, everything—from the ship’s décor to its cuisine and entertainment—reflects a distinct flair.

Picture yourself indulging in delicious Italian cuisine in the main dining room, surrounded by a warm ambiance. And don’t miss the state-of-the-art fitness center and the inviting pool area—perfect for staying active or simply unwinding. Your package includes entertainment, daily activities, and onboard meals, but keep in mind that it doesn’t cover shore excursions, personal expenses, gratuities, or alcoholic beverages.

As the MSC Magnifica docks in Key West, a superb family destination , you’ll step onto an island bursting with character. Key West proudly holds the title of being the southernmost city in the contiguous United States. Its specific location, marked by a buoy at the intersection of Whitehead Street and South Street, is a must-visit spot for travelers.

Ocean Cay, MSC Cruises’ private island , is definitely going to be the main draw for most cruisers, which was once an industrial sand excavation site. However, the corporation paid $300 million to transform it into a tranquil haven for swimming and water activities.

Miles of white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and an inner lagoon await you on Ocean Cay. Since it sits just 65 miles southeast of the Port of Miami, ships sometimes dock overnight, allowing passengers an entire day (and more) on this exclusive island.

10 All-Inclusives Offering The Best September Vacation

Escape to paradise in September—the month when summer lingers, crowds thin out, and the allure of an all-inclusive escape beckons.

5 3 Night Cruise To Pacific Coastal

Starting price: usd $182 per person.

A September vacation aboard the Ruby Princess, part of Princess Cruises, promises an unforgettable experience. As you step onto the Ruby Princess, your adventure begins with a wearable device; a key to personalized convenience.

Imagine ordering food, drinks, and more directly from your smart device, with delivery anywhere on the ship. And speaking of dining, the Crown Grill steals the spotlight. Recognized as one of the ‘ Best Cruise Ship Steakhouses ’ by USA Today , this restaurant serves premium beef, delectable seafood, and elegant appetizers and desserts.

During this three-night cruise, you’ll spend two nights at sea, gliding through the ocean. Most of the ship’s pools are on the 15th floor, accompanied by extra Jacuzzis and inviting bars—perfect for relaxation and soaking up the sun. Head up to the 19th floor, where a green area awaits. Play croquet or practice your putting skills—all while enjoying the best views from up high.

As you approach San Francisco, anticipation builds. And while there are countless guides on what to do in this iconic city, the Golden Gate Bridge is the most iconic of them all. Yes, it’s a must-see. But here’s the surprise: It’s not smack in the middle of the city. Instead, venture across it and take in the breathtaking views.

8 Underrated Things To Do In San Francisco

With so many tourist attractions in San Francisco, here are some underrated destinations to explore.

4 4 Night Cruise To The Bahamas

Starting price: usd $297 per person.

This trip onboard the Celebrity Reflection leaves from sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida, destined for two enthralling destinations: Key West and Binimi, Bahamas. There are seldom dull moments aboard the ship. The crew events are exciting, and if you enjoy shopping, the mall section has its own appeal. Those feeling lucky might test their luck at the casino tables or slots.

The first stop is on the United States' southernmost point, the charming island of Key West, located in the heart of Florida. When your cruise ship docks, head to Duval Street or Mallory Square, both of which are popular shopping and nightlife destinations. Don't miss the six-toed cats who live at Ernest Hemingway's iconic Spanish Colonial house-turned-museum. And, of course, a photo opportunity awaits at the Southernmost Point of the United States, a concrete mark commemorating Key West's geography.

Bimini is a relatively recent port of call for cruise ships, as the dock was just completed in 2021. It's a lovely little island, only 700 feet wide and around seven miles long. If you want a stress-free day with everything taken care of for you, book The Resorts World Bimini excursion. The resort sponsors a free tram that will carry you from the pier (near the ship) to the hotel, where you can spend the day at the pool and Beach 360.

13 Famous Things Bimini, Bahamas, Is Known For

Bimini is a quick private island escape only about 50 miles away from Miami. Here are the many things the beautiful island is known for.

3 5 Night Cruise To The Western Caribbean

Starting price: usd $327 per person.

This is a five-night cruise departing from the iconic city of Tampa, Florida , heading to the Western Caribbean, with two port days in Mexico. Royal Caribbean has surely made its Serenade of the Seas a fun-filled environment for the entire family; there is so much to see and do.

A fantastic way to start a trip is to go up to one of the upper decks and appreciate all the great views you'll see, as well as observe things you wouldn't normally notice unless you were on a cruise ship.

The sail away is a highlight of this cruise, with guests congregating on deck to take photos as the ship passes under the big, gorgeously lit Sunshine Skyway Bridge. It's breathtaking when the captain perfects the timing so that guests cruise under the Skyway Bridge right after sunset. Those unfamiliar with sailing out of Tampa Bay must cross under the Skyway Bridge to reach the Gulf of Mexico.

Amenitity-wise, the ship offers three pools, a mini golf facility, a rock climbing wall, and exceptional dining options.

2 6 Night Cruise To Bermuda

Starting price: usd $361 per person.

This cruise on the MSC Meraviglia is the ideal vacation for New Yorkers because it departs directly from Brooklyn. This ship has so much to see; it boasts an incredible Houdini show, a casino, a Sportsplex, a water park, a Broadway theater, a flying simulator, and a bowling alley, to name just a few.

Enjoy visiting the Galleria, which features a stairway made of Swarovski crystals and an LED ceiling that seems to captivate visitors. Their gorgeous pools and amenities include the spa and the MSC Yacht Club, a special portion of the ship with exquisite dining and luxurious guest suites.

This six-night trip will take you to the gorgeous island of Bermuda. Bermuda should be on everyone's vacation bucket list ; the beaches are spectacular, the sand is pink, and the people are wonderful. There's plenty to do in Bermuda while docked for three days. Parasailing from Tuckers Point Club is an excellent visual technique to capture the island's splendor.

Now Is The Best Time To Book This Bucket-List Cruise Destination For Next Summer

With Alaskan cruises gaining in popularity, booking now will not only save money but ensure your desired dates of travel are guaranteed.

1 7 Night Cruise To Mexico

Starting price: usd $709 per person.

The Carnival Firenze embarks on a voyage that seamlessly blends Italian elegance with Carnival’s distinctive touch. Drawing inspiration from its sister line, Costa Cruises, Carnival has curated an exceptional experience for guests. Features like Terrazza staterooms, exceptional wine selections, and the refreshing Rococo frozen drink bar are some of the amenities guests can expect onboard.

Before departing from Long Beach, California, if this is your first time in this California city, explore the iconic Queen Mary, a historic ocean liner rumored to be haunted. Enjoy seven days of exceptional amenities aboard Carnival Panorama, including the thrilling Sky Zone Trampoline Park, the SkyRide aerial adventure, the WaterWorks waterpark, the relaxing Cloud 9 Spa, and the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat.

The first port is in Puerto Vallarta, where you can embark on exciting shore excursions like swimming with dolphins. As you continue, in Mazatlán, immerse yourself in history by visiting the charming colonial villages of Copala and Concordia.

The cruise docks in Cabo San Lucas on day six. With two seaside cities, Cabo San Lucas promises a spectacular vacation and stunning photos, anything from exhilarating ATV rides in the desert to leisurely sipping margaritas on the beach.
