What people love about Scotland Tours in July

Great tour with Neil. Our group was small enough that he allowed us to pick and choose some of the places we wanted to see. Meals not included but breakfast was available in the hostels for a small fee. Our guide was great at providing options for dining wherever we stopped or stayed. Hostels are more like two stars. For the price you pay, don't expect fancy accommodations, but that's part of the affordability experience. This tour is a great way to get a taste of Skye and the Highlands but you'll need longer stays if you want to do major hikes and climbs.

Very comprehensive & enjoyable tour.

The tour started fine; more time in Glasgow would have been better. All we had was a ten-minute bus tour through Glasgow without any information about what was there. At the end of the day, all we got from the tour guide was restaurant suggestions. The travel packet states that we stopped at Loch Ness, but we did not. The tour guide stopped off the road at a parking lot, and we had to walk up a road to look through some bushes and trees and see a partial castle, apparently on Loch Ness. If you were short, you wouldn’t get to see anything. That does not stop at Loch Ness, and the stop at Loch Ness is also listed as a tour highlight for the day, which didn’t happen. There were so many stops we could have made but didn’t. When we stopped at Glenfinnan, the tour guide only talked about the Harry Potter reference, no mention of the Jacobite monument. The tour was constantly filled with Harry Potter references, the guide’s political opinions, and insufficient historical references. No one cares what the tour guide’s political views are; just do your job. Also, at the same stop, it was the only stop with food available, and there was only a little café where several people did not get their orders after they paid, and the tour guide did not care. Some of the people on the tour also missed the monument because the tour guide did not mention it. The Aberdeen Altens Hotel was a complete disaster. The hotel was out in the middle of nowhere. If you didn’t go on the optional excursion, then you were stranded at the hotel with minimal options, such as a pool, where you had to make an appointment to use. It was not available, the hotel had an escape room in the basement which sounds like to beginning of a horror movie, but thankfully it was not open that day, or you could take a taxi where the closet place was a ten minute drive. Still, everything was closed that day, and the taxis don’t drive around the city, so you must remember to take down the number to get back to the hotel. Also, the dinner at this hotel was a disaster; it took over three hours to get through a substandard dinner. The chicken was dry, the potatoes were terrible, the fishcakes were overcooked, and even the dessert was awful. The tour guide didn’t even stay for dinner, and then the following day, she explained that Globus knew about the problem with the amount of time it takes to get dinner and that there was nothing they could do about it. Yes, there is; use a different hotel, location, etc. The fact that this is a known problem and Globus does nothing is despicable. This hotel and location are terrible choices by Globus. The tour of The Royal Yacht Britannia was a waste of time. It seems like it was just a time waster until dinner. Overall, this tour was below satisfactory and not worth the money.

Boarding Points for Day Excursions

You can board your Johnsons Day Excursion from 40  local boarding points including Sutton Coldfield, Pype Hayes and Castle Bromwich in the north; Coventry, Warwick and Leamington in the east; Alvechurch and Barnt Green in the west; Evesham, Stratford-upon-Avon, Wellesbourne and Shipston-on-Stour in the south; and Birmingham and Solihull in the middle. Or you can park for free at our yard in Henley-in-Arden to join your day trip.

We provide full details and times for each Day Excursion so that you can clearly see what is included and how the Excursion has been designed to run. Reserved seating is provided on all day trips. Just choose your seat when you book – we find most people generally like to be near the front, so the earlier you book the better choice of seats you have.

What you can expect on board

Our wonderful fleet of coaches offer a luxury travelling experience with onboard entertainment and spacious seating. With air conditioning for the warmer months and heating to keep you toasty in the winter, we aim to provide total comfort for all our passengers whatever the season. Our large coaches are all fitted with toilets and seatbelts for our customer safety and convenience when on board. We have only run our services with our own high specification vehicles including minibuses to seat 6, right up to luxury charter coaches for 63 passengers.

Cowboys announce when team will fly to Oxnard for training camp

The Dallas Cowboys are currently holding minicamp at The Star in Frisco, Texas, but the start of training camp in Oxnard, California is just around the corner.

Training camps across the league will begin in mid-to-late-July, but exact dates have yet to be announced.

We do know, however, when the team will head out west.

NFL Network's Jane Slater reports that the Cowboys will fly to Oxnard on Tuesday, July 23. The tentative plan is to hold the first training camp practice on Thursday, July 25.

Dallas opens its preseason just over two weeks later against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, August 11.

They will then make the short trip to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to take on the Raiders, before returning home to host the Los Angeles Chargers and presumably finish out training camp at The Star.

Of course, everyone will be watching whether the team can agree to a contract extension with star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, quarterback Dak Prescott, or both. Everyone will have their fingers crossed.

The USA women’s basketball roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics is set

The 12 women’s basketball players who will compete for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics has been revealed.

USA Basketball announced the roster for the women’s team on Tuesday.

Veteran Diana Taurasi, who has five gold medals from her previous trips to the Olympics, will lead a squad that includes first-time Olympians Sabrina Ionescu, Alyssa Thomas and Kahleah Copper.

WNBA star  Caitlin Clark did not make the team.

The women’s team has won seven consecutive gold medals, a streak that started with the 1996 Games in Atlanta.

Taurasi takes pride in receiving that legacy from her predecessors and in passing it down to the next generation.

“USA Basketball is such an amazing culture of history and partnership, and teammates and all these relationships that you build throughout your whole career,”  she told Olympics.com in November 2023.

“You put the jersey on for the next person, and people have done that for me and hopefully I’m doing it for the next generation,” she added.

Who will coach the U.S. women’s Olympic basketball team?

Cheryl Reeve, president of basketball operations and head coach of the Minnesota Lynx, is helming the coaching staff for the Olympic team.

Her assistant coaches are Mike Thibault, general manager for the Washington Mystics; Kara Lawson, head coach at Duke University; and Joni Taylor, head coach at Texas A&M University.

This coaching staff previously won gold at the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup.

“I really enjoyed the time that our staff had over in Sydney at the World Cup, our first time in competition together,” Reeve said in a statement in February.

“Each has different strengths they bring to the table and I’m looking forward to working with them for the run in Paris,” she added. 

When does the team play?

The team’s first game in the Paris Olympics is Monday, July 29, against Japan.

Its second game is Thursday, Aug. 1, against Belgium, followed by a third matchup on Sunday, Aug. 4, against Germany.

The quarterfinals, semifinals and medal matches in women’s basketball are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 7, Friday, Aug. 9, and Sunday, Aug. 11, respectively.
