The height of autumn typically isn’t peak vacation season – which is exactly what makes October a good time to take a Disney cruise. Most Disney destinations are hot and sunny in October, prices are low, and the onboard entertainment is deliciously spooky. The promise of a Disney-fied Halloween celebration is what attracts many travelers to these ships in October, and it doesn’t disappoint.

The Upside of Cruising in October

Because October doesn’t coincide with any traditional school break periods, it’s a non-peak period for Disney Cruise Line. While prices fluctuate from week to week, cruising in October is generally less expensive than cruising during spring break periods or the summer. For a family of four, taking a four-day cruise to the Bahamas could be more than $2,000 cheaper in October than it would be in April or July. And while Disney cruises are always full of children, you’re less likely to be overwhelmed by crowds of school-age kids on an October voyage.

The weather in some of Disney’s prime destinations is generally warm and sunny in October. Average temperatures are in the 80s in the Bahamas, and in Cabo San Lucas, it tends to be even a little hotter than that. For travelers who prefer changing leaves and crisp autumn air to sandy beaches, a Disney cruise that travels from New York up to St. John in Canada may be the perfect itinerary.

Halloween is the other major perk of taking a Disney cruise in October. All cruises scheduled during the month are part of Disney’s “Halloween on the High Seas” itinerary, which means they include both kid- and adult-friendly holiday celebrations in addition to all the other amenities offered year-round.

Strikes Against Cruising in October

Weather issues and itinerary limitations are the biggest downsides of taking a Disney cruise in October. Hurricane season on the Atlantic is between June and the end of November, and Baja and Mexico are also prone to tropical storms in October. There’s always a chance that storms will derail your October cruising plans.

The other issue with cruising in October is that Disney, like other major cruise lines, limits its itineraries in autumn and winter. Disney doesn’t cruise to Alaska or Europe in October. But, for travelers who want to visit the Bahamas, Bermuda, the Caribbean or Mexico, Disney delivers.

What to Expect on an October Disney Cruise

Unless you’re bound for Canada, expect warm days and cool nights, keeping in mind that the sun may set before you’ve even finished your dinner. For cruises headed to the Bahamas or other warm locales, pack a mix of swimwear, shorts and T-shirts and warmer clothing, including pants, sweatshirts and jackets.

To avoid over-packing, plan to use the self-service laundry facilities on every Disney ship.

Don’t forget your costume. Specific Halloween activities vary by ship, but in October, Disney cruises offer activities such as pumpkin-carving, scary movie viewings, and both kid-friendly and adults-only costume parties. A semi-spooky pumpkin tree is a hallmark of Halloween Disney cruises, and it transforms over the course of every trip.

Disney World Weather by Month

Weather can be unpredictable – here’s what you need to know about disney world weather by month.

weather at Disney World

Disney World weather can have a profound effect on your vacation. While nothing quite compares to visiting Disney when the sun is out, and the temperatures are mild, some Florida weather can be less than ideal. Rain, hurricanes, and tropical storms are always possible here, and these occurrences can “dampen” your plans. In addition, the summers often experience long periods of excessive heat reaching into the ’90s and beyond. The good news is that there are certainly more days during the calendar year when the weather at Disney World is anywhere from  good  to  perfect . So how can you prepare for the unpredictable  Orlando climate ? This article will explain what to know about Disney World’s weather by month.

Disney World Weather Overview

Disney World weather

Most people book their  Disney World  vacation months and months before their arrival. They plan every detail exactly how they want it and strive to make their Disney experience as perfect as possible. After all, most trips cost thousands of dollars, so who  wouldn’t  want it to be perfect?!

Unfortunately, the weather is one factor that is totally out of your control. And you won’t be able to simply change your vacation reservations at the last minute if you spot a poor 10-day weather forecast. However, you  are  in control of deciding  which month to go , and you can base this decision on the historical weather patterns of the Disney World area.

Extreme Weather

Like the other parts of Florida, Orlando is prone to extreme weather like tropical storms and  hurricanes . These weather events don’t happen every year, but when they do hit, you certainly don’t want to be caught outdoors for any length of time.  ( Read more about hurricane season at Disney World)

Disney does close outdoor rides during storms and rain events in order to protect its guests from lightning strikes.

Rain showers are a more frequent occurrence. Most of the rain at Disney is just a passing shower or sudden downpours. However, some rain events may last several hours or even several days. As sunny as the  weather is in Florida , you would be very lucky to spend a whole week at Disney World without at least one rain shower or rainy day.

(See our  Disney World Packing List  page to find a poncho for your trip and our  Disney Attractions for Rainy Days  page to find the best theme park rides when the weather turns south)

Another weather factor you can almost certainly count on is the high heat and humidity during the summer months. Temperatures over 100 degrees are not out of the question during the months of June – September. These scoring temps can make you scramble to find the nearest air-conditioned building or grab your bathing suit and run for the nearest pool. Even so, you can have a wonderful experience at Disney World even when the weather is less than ideal.

The upside is that most days at Disney World experience comfortable weather for outdoor activities, more so than in other parts of the country. In addition, certain times of the year are more predictable and storm-free. Spring and fall are the seasons with the best weather, whereas winter is cooler, and summer is obviously the hottest.

Best Weather Seasons at Walt Disney World (Best Time to Visit)

weather disney world

As far as weather goes, the  best time to visit Walt Disney World Resort  is during spring and autumn. The weather during these seasons tends to be warm but quite comfortable for any outdoor activity. As a result, humidity levels are lower, and the UV index remains in a safe range.

Spring is a beautiful time to visit Disney World. The trees are awakening, the flowers are blooming, and the lovely scents of nature are in the air!

The spring is short in Orlando, but it’s quite enjoyable because temperatures remain favorable throughout the season, with low temperatures ranging up to around 82°F. Disney World’s springtime experiences moderately low rainfall (mostly in the afternoon), relative humidity of around 50%, and the sun is strong for up to nine hours per day. With the favorable climate and magical blooming grounds, spring is unquestionably one of the best times to vacation at Walt Disney World Resort, FL.

Disney World weather is close to perfect in the fall. In fact, it may just beat out the spring as the single best season to visit Walt Disney World.

Like spring, Disney’s autumn season is short. It’s characterized by crisp air, mildly warm weather, and moderately lower rainfall. Tourists who want to avoid the hot summer weather will appreciate the milder temperatures of autumn and still have up to 8 hours of sunshine per day. However, nights typically cool off considerably, so it may be advisable to bring an extra layer or light jacket if you plan to extend your daytime activities into the evening and nighttime.

Worst Weather Seasons at Disney World (Worst Time to Visit)

Disney World rain

Unfortunately, not all seasons at Disney are as agreeable as spring and autumn.

Summer, in particular, suffers from a double whammy because the park is more crowded when schools are on break, and the weather can become sizzling hot. The heat translates into crowded swimming pools and an uncomfortable time  waiting in lines .

Winter experiences fewer crowds, but the temperatures are considerably cooler than at other times of the year. But for some, cooler temps are welcomed… so winter may not be so bad for those of you who can’t stand the heat. If crowds are our major concern, then please see our  Disney World Crowd Calendar .

Disney’s summer season extends from May through September. It’s characterized by warm – if not  scorching  – weather with mid-day temperatures reaching as high as 100+ degrees. Humidity stays relatively high even in the hot weather, with an average of 61%, while rainfall is at its peak, with an average precipitation of 6.4″. A noteworthy positive aspect of summer is the fourteen hours of daylight the park experiences.

Disney’s winter runs from December through February. The highest average temperatures top out in the low 70s, and rainfall is lighter than in other seasons. With moderate temperatures, minimal rain, and humidity of around 59%, winter may be one of the better times to visit Disney World if you aren’t fond of the heat and don’t mind bringing an extra layer of clothing for the evening hours. Another added bonus: Winter tends to be the  cheapest time to go to Disney World .

Winter does have a few drawbacks. Disney World tends to be a little on the cool side for the pools and water parks during this season (but that decision is up to you). In addition, there are fewer daylight hours, the park grounds aren’t nearly as beautiful as during the spring season, and the temperatures aren’t as ideal as during the beginning and latter half of autumn (still too hot or becoming too cool).

  • Travel Documents: Keep passports , booking confirmations, and travel insurance details in an easily accessible pouch.

Navigating Onboard Activities and Dining

  • Research in Advance: Most cruise lines release their activity schedules and dining menus ahead of time. Familiarizing yourself can help prioritize what you want to do.
  • Book Specialty Dining Early: If your cruise offers specialty dining options, book in advance to secure a table, especially if you’re eyeing a specific date or time.
  • Participate in Onboard Orientations: These sessions, often held on the first day, provide invaluable information and can help first-timers get acquainted with the ship’s layout and offerings.

Tips for First-Time Cruisers in October

Shore Excursion Tips

  • Group vs. Independent Tours: While group tours offer convenience, sometimes exploring independently can provide a more personalized experience. Weigh the pros and cons based on the destination.
  • Safety First: Always be aware of the time. Ships operate on strict schedules, and you don’t want to be left behind. If exploring independently, set multiple reminders and wear a watch set to the ship’s time.
  • Local Currency: While many tourist spots accept credit cards, it’s wise to have some local currency on hand for smaller purchases or tips.

In essence, while cruises in October come with their unique charm and advantages, the essence of a great cruise experience often lies in the details.

By being prepared, informed, and open to new experiences, first-time cruisers can ensure their maiden voyage in October is nothing short of spectacular.

Safety and Health Considerations

When embarking on cruises in October, ensuring safety and maintaining good health are paramount.

From navigating potential weather disturbances to staying fit on board, here are key considerations to keep in mind for a smooth and enjoyable journey.

Navigating the Remnants of Hurricane Season

Parts of the Caribbean and the Atlantic remain susceptible to hurricanes during October, although the risk decreases as the month progresses.

  • Stay Informed: Before booking, research the typical weather patterns for your desired destination.
  • Travel Insurance: Opt for a comprehensive travel insurance plan that covers trip disruptions due to weather events.
  • Stay Flexible: Cruise lines prioritize passenger safety and might change itineraries based on weather conditions. Understand that these changes are for the best.

Health and Wellness Onboard

Staying healthy onboard is vital, especially with the myriad of dining options and potential for reduced physical activity.

  • Stay Active: Utilize the ship’s gym, attend fitness classes, or simply take long walks on the deck.
  • Balanced Diet: While it’s tempting to indulge, ensure you maintain a balanced diet. Many cruises offer healthier menu options—take advantage!
  • Hydration: With the abundance of beverage options, don’t forget to drink plenty of water.

Preventing Seasickness

While modern ships are equipped with stabilizers, seasickness can still be a concern for some, especially first-time cruisers.

  • Choose a Central Cabin: Cabins located centrally and on lower decks tend to experience less motion.
  • Over-the-counter Medication: Consider seasickness pills or patches, but consult with a doctor first.
  • Focus on the Horizon: When feeling queasy, looking at a fixed point, like the horizon, can help.

October cruises

Travel Insurance Considerations

Beyond weather disturbances, travel insurance can cover a host of potential trip disruptions or medical emergencies.

  • Comprehensive Coverage: Ensure the plan covers trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and potential evacuations.
  • Pre-existing Conditions: If you have any medical conditions, make sure they’re covered or consider a ‘cancel for any reason’ policy.

Personal Safety On and Off the Ship

Ensuring personal safety is crucial, both onboard and during shore excursions.

  • Follow Ship Guidelines: Adhere to safety drills and guidelines provided by the cruise staff.
  • Stay Aware: During shore excursions, be aware of your surroundings, keep valuables secure, and avoid isolated areas.
  • Drink Responsibly: If you consume alcohol, do so in moderation and never leave drinks unattended.

cruises with kids

Environmental Considerations

This wasn’t explicitly mentioned in the section heading, but it’s worth noting the environmental responsibilities of cruisers.

  • Respect Marine Life: Avoid touching or disturbing marine life during snorkeling or diving excursions.
  • Limit Plastic Use: Refrain from using single-use plastics. Instead, bring reusable water bottles and bags.
  • Follow Leave No Trace Principles: Whether on a beach or in a port town, always clean up after yourself and respect the local environment.

In essence, while cruises in October offer a blend of adventures and relaxation, ensuring safety and maintaining health should be top priorities.

By being prepared and vigilant, you can ensure that your October cruise is not only enjoyable but also free from unwarranted disruptions or health concerns.

October cruising, with its enchanting blend of pleasant weather, vibrant festivals, and reduced crowds, truly offers an unparalleled experience. As the seas beckon and distant shores call out, travelers get a unique chance to rediscover the world’s beauty.

Yet, with this joy comes the responsibility to travel consciously, ensuring our voyages cherish and not harm our planet. What’s the Best Month to Cruise? Pros & Cons of Sailing Each Month of the Year

Let’s get one thing straight right at the start. There is no bad time to cruise . Whether you want to have a summer vacation or a winter getaway, the weather somewhere in the Caribbean is always warm and welcoming.

disney cruise in october weather

That said, with our experiences having sailed seemingly every month on the calendar, we have found there are definite advantages and disadvantages to sailing each month of the year. For example, cruises in August offer the ability to sail when the kids are out of school (meaning entire families can travel together). On the other hand, August is also notorious for hurricanes disrupting travel to Caribbean ports.

As you’ll see below, there are trade-offs with each time of year to sail. No month is perfect. However, many of the potential downsides are manageable in our opinion — and shouldn’t deter you from taking a cruise when it fits your schedule and budget.

Taking a Cruise in January

Pros : We like sailing in January as one of the biggest advantages of cruising this time of year is price. During this time of year school is in session and many people are back at work after a holiday break. That means it’s difficult for many to cruise. Cruise lines typically have discounted rates to fill up the ship in January; the same cruise departing at the height of the busy summer can cost hundreds of dollars more than in January.

As well, when winter has gripped most of North America, the Caribbean still offers a warm getaway with lots of sunshine. It’s a welcome change from the snow and cold see in most areas.

Cons : If you are a family, it might be tough for you to take a January cruise. It will usually mean the kids have to skip a few days of school to take the trip. In addition, if you have to fly in for your cruise, there are chances of winter weather causing delays to your schedule. You’ll want to make sure you plan your flight to arrive the day before your cruise, just in case.

As well, this time of year trips from the West Coast will still be cool and Alaskan cruises don’t start sailing until April/May.

Taking a Cruise in February

disney cruise in october weather

Pros : February offers the same advantages to sailing as you see in January. Fares are normally discounted, with the ability to save hundreds on a cruise by sailing in February versus the height of the summer season. It’s also cold in most of the United States and Canada, making a warm getaway awfully enticing.

Cons : Like January, you might find it difficult to take time off after the holidays to enjoy a cruise. Doing so means spending vacation days early in the year and/or having the kids miss school. There are also still strong snowstorms in many parts of North America during February, meaning it’s possible that getting to the port can be an adventure if you have to fly in for your cruise from a northern city.

As well, even if sailing to the Caribbean, the pools and water on a ship may still be too cool to enjoy fully. Don’t plan on spending much time in the water in our experience.

Taking a Cruise in March

Pros : With warmer weather and Spring Break, a cruise is on many people’s minds come March. In fact, if you are a Spring Breaker, this is a great time to sail as a cruise offers an affordable getaway to the beach without having to worry about flights or hotel. Just hop on the ship and start your vacation.

As well, if you’re headed to the Caribbean, March can be warm — but not too warm compared to the heat of the summer months.

Cons : If you aren’t a Spring Break fan, then this might not be the best month to sail. Cruises — especially shorter trips (3-5 days) — will have a younger crowd and more of a party atmosphere. You’ll also see a spike in prices starting in mid-March as cruise lines raise prices for trips that coincide with Spring Break.

Taking a Cruise in April

disney cruise in october weather

Pros : April represents one of your last chances to get a deal on a cruise before the busy summer sailing season. Discounts and deals are still available up until about mid-May, giving you the chance to save a bundle on a trip compared to sailing just a month or two later. As well, the threat of snow is diminished in northern parts of the United States and hurricane season isn’t here yet for port cities. It’s hard to find better weather than what you get in April.

Cons : After Spring Break, it’s back to school and work for most people. That means many have a tough time taking a trip at this time a year. That’s unfortunate because April is the “Goldilocks” of cruise months for the Caribbean — it features affordable prices, good weather, and is before hurricane season gets cranked up, which always adds a wildcard to travel in the Caribbean.

Taking a Cruise in May

Pros : Heading into May, cruisers hitting the Caribbean can start to experience some warmer weather both at home and on their cruise. While the water and beach are typically warm enough for swimming and laying out even during the coldest winter months, it is a few degrees warmer in May, which can make it more inviting to hit the beach. For example, Cozumel’s average high in January is 83, compared to 91 degrees in May. If you’re the type who loves warm water, May is when things start to heat up.

Cons : If you wait until too late in the month, you’ll start to see higher prices for your cruise. The end of May marks the start of the summer cruising season, and fares start to jump up. One place where you can save? Cruises to Alaska typically start their season in May, and it’s the cheapest month to sail to that region . We’ve sailed Alaska this time of year and highly recommend it.

Taking a Cruise in June

Pros : If you want a summer getaway with warm weather and water, June is a great choice. Hurricane season starts June 1st, but it’s still rare that you’ll have a chance of a hurricane this early. Meanwhile, the Caribbean is starting to heat up so you can have a true beach summer vacation without worrying about it being too chilly either on the ship or in port. Also, with the kids out of school, you can take them on your trip without worrying about absences.

Cons : With schools out of session and the popular summer vacation season, fares spike for June and through the rest of summer. You’ll usually be paying more for the same cruise compared to taking it earlier in the year. As well, if you aren’t the type that likes to cruise with families on the ship, then keep in mind that summer months typically see an influx of kids.

Taking a Cruise in July

Cruise in July

Pros : Like June, you’ll find warm and sunny days filling July. And with the kids out of classes, you’ll have the opportunity to sail without missing school, making it an ideal time to cruise if you are traveling with kids. While it is warm in the Caribbean, regular afternoon “pop-up” showers can help cool things off during the heat of the afternoon. This also represents the height of the Alaskan cruise season, offering the most options (albeit at higher prices) of the year.

Cons : The biggest negative with sailing in July is hot weather. On sunny days, it can get downright hot in many Caribbean ports. If you aren’t used to the heat and humidity, it can be draining. As well, you should start to look out for hurricanes and tropical storms during July — especially if traveling later in the month. While cruise ships will avoid any storms, they can be unpredictable and cause changes to your itinerary.

Also, just keep in mind that you should expect the highest cruise fares of the year during this time.

Taking a Cruise in August

Pros : Consider August the last hurrah if you want to be able to cruise with the kids out of school. While the weather is hot, being able to travel as a family without missing school days is the biggest draw of sailing in this month. If the kids don’t start back until September, then you can sometimes find deals late in the month that can save you considerably on your cruise fare.

Cons : Similar to July, you can run into weather issues in August. Specifically, the heat and humidity is at its worst in the Caribbean during August. While afternoon showers can cool things off, they are not a guarantee. You also have to start worrying seriously about hurricanes. Late August is reaching the peak of hurricane season. While the chances are low that your specific cruise will be hit by a storm (cruise lines steer clears of storms as much as possible), it could disrupt your trip if a hurricane hits a port of call.

Taking a Cruise in September

Pros : With the busy summer cruise season past, students back to school, and summer vacations in the rear view mirror, September offers a “shoulder” season of sorts. While the Caribbean is still warm — perfect for those that want to hit the beach and the water — cruise fares are heavily discounted versus the expensive summer months. In other words, you get the warm weather of the summer with the lower prices of the fall. As well, your cruise is likely to have fewer kids onboard. It’s also the last chance to sail Alaska for the season, when crowds are fewer and fares are generally cheaper.

Cons : September actually marks the peak of hurricane season. Historically, the first week of the month is the busiest for storms and then activity quickly drops off later in the month. Still, even if your ship isn’t directly impacted by a storm, it can cause issues at Caribbean ports.

Taking a Cruise in October

Cruise in October

Pros : If you’re not wanting to deal with heat, then October is a great time to visit the Caribbean. While the humidity is always a factor, October sees the start of a cooling trend in the weather. As well, while hurricanes can occur in October, the season is largely over so you don’t have to worry about them disrupting your trip as much. Finally, cruise prices also fall during this time of year, meaning you can book a solid deal without spending a bundle.

Cons : It shouldn’t be a surprise that April and October are two months that we consider great times to sail. Like April, the biggest con is that it can be difficult for people with kids to travel without taking their children out of school for a few days. Apart from that, the month sees good weather and cheaper fares, and it’s before the harsh winter hits many places in the U.S. and Canada, disrupting air travel to the port or the weather in the port city.

Taking a Cruise in November

Pros : By the time November rolls around, people are starting to think of warmer weather, especially if you live in a cold area. Taking a trip during this month can lead you away from the cold and gray to the warm and blue. It’s also a great time to find cheap cruises, apart from trips that sail during the Thanksgiving holiday (which are more expensive).

Cons : Scheduling around the Thanksgiving holiday can be tough, and if you have to fly to your cruise during the busiest travel time in the United States, it can mean dealing with long lines and delays at airports. Apart from that, November is a great time to book a cruise with cheap deals and nice weather in the Caribbean and The Bahamas.

Taking a Cruise in December

Pros : The period between Thanksgiving and Christmas is one of the absolute cheapest times to sail. With many people not looking to travel between these two major holidays, cruise lines slash fares. It’s not unusual to see a trip costing 50% less than a comparable trip during the summer. Needless to say, cruising in December is also a big draw for people wanting to get away from the snow and cold of many places in the north.

Cons : Trying to fit a cruise between Thanksgiving and Christmas can be tough for many schedules. And while many people take a cruise during Christmas itself, those trips are more expensive. If you are traveling by air, be ready for the possibility of delays due to weather and holiday travel crowds.

What Are the Least Expensive Months to Sail?

If you want to sail for cheap, then we suggest looking at months like January, February, April, May, September and October . We find that rates during these months tend to be less expensive than for the same cruise if headed to the Caribbean. During these times fewer people are traveling, leading to generally lower cruise fare.

If headed to Alaska, then the months are more limited. The season runs largely from May through September. In this case the ‘shoulder’ months of May and September offer the lowest prices.

So Which Month Is Best to Cruise?

As mentioned above, there is no “bad” time to sail. However, if we had our pick, we would suggest either April or October if you need to fly into a cruise port . The generally good weather and low prices combine to make it a cheap and easy time to sail.

If you are within driving distance of a port, then you can expand these months to include early winter months and later fall months. During these times the weather on a cruise will be warmer than back home, prices are very affordable, and if driving, you can get to the port without worrying about airline delays.

October at Disney World: Weather, What to Pack, and What to See

 Gerardo Mora / Getty Images

With its warm climate and abundance of Halloween events, Walt Disney World in Orlando is a popular destination come October. Families line up to see zombies, headless horsemen, and Mickey and company dressed in costumes. But despite the festive vibes, this time of year is actually value season—discounts and deals abound.

After the summer crowd dwindles, some rides and attractions close for renovation and refurbishment, so be sure to check the specifics on your must-do list before you go. The Magic Kingdom closes at 7 p.m. on many nights in October for Mickey's Not-So-Spooky Halloween Spectacular, an event that requires a different ticket than the standard park pass.

Disney World Weather in October

Orlando is one of the warmest U.S. destinations to visit in October, with the average high being 85 degrees Fahrenheit (29 degrees Celsius) and the average low being a still-mild 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Celsius). The later into the month you visit, the cooler you can expect it to be.

The summer rains start to wane, too, and with them, the humidity. October typically sees about 13 rainy days, accumulating just over 3 inches, but most of the precipitation occurs via brief afternoon showers. Mornings and evenings bring sunshine even on wet days.

In early October, Orlando gets about 12 hours of daylight, but the days get shorter by about an hour by the end of the month. Still, there is plenty of time in the day to visit a water park or lounge by your resort pool, seeing as the water at Disney World is usually heated.

What to Pack

Your suitcase should be packed with shorts and t-shirts for daytime and light jackets, sweaters, and pants for after dark. Certainly don't forget a pair of sneakers (or two)—any Disney-goer knows how much walking is involved. If you plan to participate in water rides at Disney World, bring a backpack with a change of clothes. Sunscreen is obligatory. The park allows visitors to bring in their own outside food and drink so long as it's not kept in glass containers.

October Events at Disney World

With the Halloween festivities and culinary events happening in October, there should be plenty to entertain Disney World-goers of any age.

  • Mickey's Not-So-Spooky Spectacular : Come in costume and enjoy trick-or-treating, parades, fireworks, costume parties, and not-so-scary shows at the Magic Kingdom. This party takes place on multiple nights throughout the month, culminating on Halloween, but it requires a special ticket. In 2020, all featured parties have been canceled.
  • Disney After Hours Boo Bash : Twice nightly, beloved characters parade down the streets of Disney in Halloween costumes, joined by zombies and ghosts and other scary (but not too scary) things. The procession is led by a headless horseman. For much of 2020, the parades have been canceled.
  • Epcot's International Food & Wine Festival : This months-long event is in full swing through October. In the Global Marketplaces, you can sample an array of cuisines with gourmet small plates and exotic drinks before getting your groove on at the Eat to the Beat concert series. Expect cooking demonstrations, celebrity chef appearances, and food seminars. In 2020, the festival will be modified for social distancing. About 20 Global Marketplaces (themed around Hawaii, Hops & Barley, Islands of the Caribbean, and more) will be spaced out around the park.

October Travel Tips

  • You can make advanced dining reservations for most table-service restaurants within 180 days of your visit. There are typically first-come lounges and quick-service restaurants available, but they often take a long time.
  • Restaurants closest to the resort normally fill up quickly on Mickey's Not-So-Spooky Halloween Spectacular nights, so be sure to book ahead.
  • You can still benefit from Disney's FastPass+ system in October, so use it to cut down on longer wait times for popular attractions such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Expedition Everest, which almost always have long lines.
  • Crowds during the "Columbus Day" weekend, also celebrated as Indigenous Peoples' Day in other states on the second Monday of October, rival those of the summer season and peak holiday times.
  • Weekends during Epcot's International Food & Wine Festival get very busy as many local residents attend these festivities.
  • Even without promotional rates, you can always save money by purchasing your Disney World tickets online rather than at the park's ticket windows.
  • If you're not keen on crowds, try to visit mid-week versus over a weekend. As a bonus, mid-week tickets are cheaper, too.

We cruise in October 2000, Eastern Caribbean. The seas the first day out were moving, but the second morning we woke up to Caribbean blue and smooth as glass. The weather was warm to hot all the time. It rained in St Thomas at around 4 or so in the afternoon.

October is a great time to cruise. The weather is ideal

Host Mick

All of my cruises have been in September or October.

Though it's hurricane season, we never saw a tall wave. On the last cruise, it was windy on the first and last nights as we went through the Gulf Stream. There were a few seas, but not enough to make me queasy and I get Mal-de-Mer very easily.

It also rained on our Castaway Cay day, but it didn't ruin it for us.

Just be ready for some rain and be ready for some skipped, added or ports visited out of order. Be ready for the worst and expect the best, remember that the ship's Master wants his passengers to have the best cruise possible so he'll take the ship wherever he can to do just that.

Disney Crusie #2 (Magic Oct. 2nd 2004)

  • 5 years later...

I agree with just making the best of it...I will be cruising Oct 3 Carnival fascination on my 2nd cruise. My 1st one was in sept on the heels of some pretty intense storms. The first night the boat was rocking but I was so focused on having a good time that I put any thoughts of getting sick out of my mind. I had a great time and now am down to 63 days and counting on my next cruise and I cant wait. I am also in the process of booking my 3rd cruise for 2010 on Carnival Dream but thats later...on cruise at a time...LOL

We soley cruise in Oct it is our Aniv. Until last year weather has never been a problem! We were on the Legend Carnival and it rained 5 out of 7 days. It would have been nice to get a tan but it was 7 days without work so that is a plus. We return to the Magic on Oct 17th!

Jrabbit128

We have cruised the last week of September into October and the weather was great. They changed our itinerary around due to a hurricane but it was no biggy to us. I don't think it ever rained. It was very warm though because we were on the beach on almost all the islands we stopped at.
