Join the Hoboken Art Walk & Studio Tour on Nov. 12

Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the City of Hoboken invite residents and visitors to the annual Hoboken Art Walk & Studio Tour taking place on Sunday, Nov. 12, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.  

The Hoboken Art Walk & Studio Tour is a free, self-guided walking tour that offers participants a unique opportunity to explore 43 local galleries, artists' studios, murals, and group art exhibition displays featuring work from over 100 artists.

“I am continually inspired by the extraordinary creativity that our local artists bring to our community,” said Mayor Bhalla. “The Hoboken Art Walk & Studio Tour is a unique opportunity to enjoy the vibrant cultural tapestry of our city and to get to know the local artists who help make it so vibrant. I invite everyone to join us on Nov. 12 to experience the beauty, talent, and passion that these artists bring to our city."

The tour will feature a wide range of artistic mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, multi-media work, ceramics, jewelry and more. In addition to the art on display, there will be live demonstrations, musical performances, and special receptions scheduled throughout the day.  

A digital art map and tour directory are available online at www.hobokennj.gov/events/hoboken-fall-artists-studio-tour-2023 . For those who prefer a physical copy, a limited number of printed directories and maps will be available at the following locations:

  • Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington St. - Nov. 9, from 8 a.m.to 6 p.m. Please use the Newark Street entrance and pick up the directory from the security guards; Nov. 12, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. in front of City Hall.

Hoboken Art Tours To Give Visitors Rare Look Inside Artists' Lairs

H OBOKEN, NJ — One might wander right by the YES Gallery on the west side of Hoboken and not even realize the diverse types of art on the various levels inside. Artist Jannie Wolff, who hails from New England, has curated exhibits from respected artists all around the area, in one cozy and welcoming space.

Her gallery is just one of dozens you can visit this Sunday for free in Hoboken.

Each spring and fall, Hoboken's Artists' Studio Tour And Art Walk allows visitors an easy way to enjoy and support the arts community.

Besides the exhibits, there are often performances of music, dance, and spoken word.

The fall 2023 tour, set for this Sunday afternoon, features a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, multi-media work, ceramics, jewelry, and more.

The event takes place from 1-6 p.m. Nov. 12.

First Jersey City, now Hoboken is back in the swing of things when the annual Hoboken Art Walk & Studio Tour returns to the Mile Square City on Saturday, Nov. 5, and Sunday, Nov. 6.

The free, self-guided walking tour will feature local galleries, artists’ studios, murals, and community art displays at over 40 of the city’s locations.

“Our city is blessed by the artists, photographers, musicians, and writers who call Hoboken home, and I am thrilled to once again invite everyone to the Hoboken Art Walk & Studio Tour,” said Mayor Ravi Bhalla. “These artists add to the diverse culture and vibrancy of Hoboken.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet more than 100 artists, learn about their inspirations, and discuss their creative process.

Artists include Elina Gelfand, Andrea Kroenig, David White, Jada Fab, John Patterson, Dawn Cohen, Gloria Pacis, Pranali Bharambe, Janhavi Firke, Bruce Stiglich, Diane Stiglich, Chesleigh Meade, Jean Paul Picard, Shauna Finn, Michelle Doll, Lou Carbone, Ibou Ndoye, Liz Ndoye, Jodie Fink, Dara Levine, Olga Nenazhivina, Bill Curran, and Sheila Phalon.

Some of them will be demonstrating their various forms of visual art at City Hall, 94 Washington St., on both Nov. 5 from noon to 6 p.m. and Nov. 6 from noon to 5 p.m. These include painting, henna design candles and stands, and henna tattoos by Pranali Bharamba; pyrography and henna tattoos by Janhavi Firke; photography by HobokenPrints; oil paintings by Karlissas Giron; photography and metal on display on Bloomfield St. behind City Hall by Jason Hite; oil paintings by Leonard Scrivanich; and pen and ink drawings by Elizabeth Walsh.

There will also be events exclusive to City Hall on Nov. 6 from noon to 5 p.m. including natural elements such as moss and dried flowers by Dawn Cohen, and paintings and mixed media on canvas by Eliana Forero.

The tour will also have a variety of mediums that include paintings, drawings, photography, sculptures, multi-media work, ceramics, and jewelry among others.

Various utility box murals can be seen along Washington Street at these addresses: 89 Washington St. (Lawrence Clarallo), 101 Washington St. Sayeed A. Syed), 201 Washington St. (Anita Torre), 301 Washington St. (Kelli Glancey), 401 Washington St. (Jane Migliore), 425 Washington St. (Chesleigh Meade), 537 Washington St. (Matt Dean), 802 Washington St. (Greg Brehm), 829 Washington St. (Mher Khachatryan), 1001 Washington St. (Eleanor Sgaramelia), 1039 Washington St. (Raisa Nosova), and 1131 Washington St. (Alison Josephs).

Rorschach and Andre Leon’s mural, Flight, will be on display at Tom Olivieri Park at Willow Ave. and the corner of 13th Street along with a mural by Ray Guzman.

A mural by DistoArt that pays homage to Hoboken’s historical figure can be seen at 1320 Adams St. on the backwall of CubeSmart.

Paintings and photography by Sheila Phalon can be seen in the window of Hudson Cuts, 109 14th St., on Nov. 6.

The container murals by RH Doaz and Liv Novotny can be seen at Southwest Pop-Up Park, 57 Marhsall St./60 Harrison St.

You can also check Ricardo Roig’s mural at Napoli’s, 133 Clinton St., titled Hoboken Color, on the 2nd Street side of the building.

There will also be demonstrations, live musical performances, literary readings, and special receptions scheduled throughout the weekend.

Special events include Field Colony, 1001 Bloomfield St., which features Suminagashi Japanese marbling demos by Aaron Boucher with selected works typed upon by poet Pierce Logan. Visitors will have a chance to try marbling and have a poem composed. The event is open from 3 to 7 p.m. on both days and a reception takes place on Nov. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. with new work by Boucher.

Frank Hanavan will be demonstrating the art of ship model building at the Hoboken Historical Museum, 1300 Hudson St., on Nov. 5 from 2 to 5 p.m.

A new portrait by Danilo Peguero will be unveiled during an opening reception at YES Gallery, 408 6th St., on Nov. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m.

A live performance by The Benson Ridge Project can be seen at Skyline Graphics, 601 Adams St., on Nov. 6 from noon to 6 p.m.

Tours will be led by George Sorenson at St. Ann Church, 704 Jefferson St., on Nov. 5, from noon to 4 p.m. The tour will focus on the art and history of the church, which is on the National and New Jersey Registries of Historic Places, and will cover its history, architecture, paintings, sculptures, and stained-glass windows.

Live music by the Joe Taino Trio will be at the Monroe Center for the Arts, 720 Monroe St., on Nov. 6 from 2 to 5 p.m. The band will be on the 2nd floor of the space.

Neumann Leathers, 333 Newark St., will have open studios on Nov. 5 beginning at 5:30 p.m. on the 4th floor of building H with live music by Debbie Schawrtz with Larry Heinemann, Those Handsome Devils, and a set by Psych-O-Positive at 7 p.m.

Hands-on ceramics demonstrations will take place at Project Studios Clay Studio, 66 Willow Ave., on Nov. 6 from noon to 6 p.m. Studio owner Nick De Pirro and members of the studio will demonstrate different methods of working with clay while visitors can try their hand at wheel throwing and hand building. Then, on Nov. 6, the studio will perform Raku firing outside in the Neumann Leathers courtyard.
