Sellaronda MTB Tour: Counter-clockwise
Introduction
The Sellaronda MTB counter-clockwise tour (green signposting) is ideal for mountain bikers who are in good shape and enjoy cycling uphill. Of course, you can also do the route around the Sella on an e-bike, which will save you a lot of sweat but is just as much fun as a classic mountain bike. Start in Selva in Val Gardena and experience a 57.7-kilometre tour with an ascent of 1,020 metres .
You will be rewarded for your efforts with wonderful descents on trails and gravel roads as well as fantastic mountain panoramas. Part of the route is covered with the help of the comfortable mountain railways, which allow you to take your bike with you. Including an extensive lunch break, even experienced mountain bikers should allow themselves six to nine hours to complete the tour. General information about the tour can be found on our overview page " Sellaronda MTB Tour ".

You can start the tour from all four valleys on the Sellaronda: Alta Badia, Val di Fassa, Arabba and Val Gardena . We recommend Selva in Val Gardena as the starting and finishing point. The best way to get there by car is to take the Brenner motorway and follow the signs to Selva from the Val Gardena/Chiusa exit. By train, you travel to Bressanone, Bolzano or Chiusa and then take the bus. If you arrive by plane, choose between the destination airports of Bolzano, Verona, Milan, Bergamo and Innsbruck. If you don't bring your mountain bike, you can rent one for the Sellaronda MTB Tour from one of the bike rental shops in Val Gardena .
Description
Sellaronda MTB counter-clockwise tour : find all the information about the tour here.
Start: Selva
The Sellaronda MTB tour counter-clockwise is fundamentally different from the clockwise route. The route is only suitable for experienced mountain bikers and you should either be in good shape or use an e-bike if you attempt this tour. You will be rewarded with outstanding views and wonderful descents. It's also recommended that you do this tour with a professional guide at your side.
The tour starts in beautiful Selva. The Ciampinoi cable car takes you to the foot of the Sassolungo . Follow a hiking path and trail with some steep passages and curves. Arriving at the legendary Comici Hut, you descend to the valley station of the Gran Paradiso cable car. The 8-seater chairlift with extra bike transport seats takes you to the highest point of the Città dei Sassi, through which you then roll to the Passo Sella.
From the Sella Pass to the Pordoi Pass
Once you have crossed the car park, a short trail leads uphill to the ridge and continues to the right along a gravel road towards Col Rodella . Just before the Salei Hut, the "Rodeline" begins an exciting trail that joins the Joel Trail and leads to Pian Frataces (Lupo Bianco). Shortly after, you enter a road tunnel to access the "Infinity" Trail. This trail leads to Canazei. Canazei in the Val di Fassa thankfully offers you the opportunity to take a short rest. From here you take the cable car to Pecol and with another cable car, you finally reach Col dei Rossi.
Enjoy the view of the Marmolada and the Fedaia Lake, and then ride briefly uphill to the Fredarola Hut. Continue on the "Lezuo" Trail in the direction of Arabba. You won't get all the way to the village of Arabba: the trail leads you to the Fodom cable car that takes you to the Passo Pordoi. Here, after a short section on a seldom-used asphalt road, one of the most beautiful trails of the Dolomites begins: the Pordoi-Burz Trail, also called Ossario.
To Arabba and Corvara
The "Pordoi-Burz" Trail ends at the Burz Hut and here you ride along the Burz Trail, which is perfect for practising tight turns, to Arabba. Follow the green Sellaronda MTB TOUR signs and enjoy a quiet 450-metre uphill to the La Marmotta Hut. From here the trail continues flowing for a short while on the Fle Trail that runs through the forest towards Corvara. One last gravel section downhill and you arrive in Corvara in Alta Badia. Here you have to pedal a bit again because it goes from Corvara in the direction of Colfosco to the Plans-Frara circuit.
From Corvara back to Selva
From Corvara, you have to pedal a bit again as you head towards Colfosco until you reach the Plans-Frara cable car. The cable car finally takes you to the Jimmi Hut on the Passo Gardena. From the Passo Gardena, a beautiful path (also used by hikers) leads over the Plans de Frea to the Restaurant Gérard and further downhill to Plan de Gralba. From Plan de Gralba, the only descent left is on the ski slope to get back to Selva.

Explanation
The Sellaronda MTB Tour is a mountain bike tour around the Sella massif with unique panoramic views of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.
Spectacular Dolomite peaks and legendary mountain passes: The Sellaronda is one of the most beautiful and popular circular routes in the Alps and offers all kinds of exciting options in winter or in summer. One of these is the Sellaronda mountain biking tour. The tour requires a good level of physical fitness and mountain biking experience, because there are some tricky climbs and a few difficult descents to manage. However, for the last few years there has been the option of avoiding some of the particularly steep climbs by using lifts, making it possible to complete the tour in a day. Thanks to several chairlifts and cablecars the height difference to ride up by bike is relatively small in the clockwise route of the Sellaronda MTB TOUR. There are several descents on bike trails, which require a medium level of bike practice. The time needed to complete the tour varies according the ability of the biker: generally from 5 to a maximum of 9 hours, lunch break included.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.
Track types
Turn-by-turn directions.
From Corvara you take the Col Alto and Braia Fraida lifts to reach the “Alta Via”, a flowing path to the Campolongo Pass. Here take the chairlift Campolongo and start the descent on another single trail to Arabba and to the next cable car Porta Vescovo. At the top the bikers can admire the scenic view of the peak of the Marmolada Glacier and the manmade Fedaia Lake. The descent down to the Fodom cablecar is a mix of steep gravel road and a challenging but flowy single trail. From the Pordoi Pass there is a long and very panoramic bike trail which leads down to Canazei. Once in Campitello take the cablecar Col Rodella. From the top station on another short descent you will reach the Sella Pass. Continue thru the “Città dei Sassi” (City of stones) to the start of the first of the two flow trails leading to Plan de Gralba. From there, another path leads back to Selva Gardena. From here, take the Gondola Lift ‘Dantercepies’. Just under the top station there is the first single trail which leads to the Gardena Pass and then continues down to Colfosco. The route then leads back to Corvara. www.sellaronda-mtb.com

Sellaronda MTB Track Tour
Four passes with cult status.
On the Sellaronda trail, skiers and cyclists circle around one of the most distinctive natural landscapes in the Dolomites: the Sella group . It lies at the heart of four valleys, which wind their way down in all directions from the Sella massif. The circuit leads over four passes and offers visitors breathtaking panoramic views throughout, making the Sellaronda a trail with true cult status. Our guides will gladly accompany you on this unusual Dolomites bike tour , which counts as one of the most famous in South Tyrol: it is 58 kilometres long, leads through forests, mountain pastures, and along trails, and lasts around six and a half hours.
Clockwise Tour
Panoramic tour for mtb enthusiasts, elevation gain, lift facilities.
Travelled in a clockwise direction, the Sellaronda is best suited for mountain bike enthusiasts whose legs have had little training. Numerous cable lift facilities reduce the elevation gain from almost 4,000 m to 330 m. Riders are therefore able to focus fully on downhill fun in this iconic tour. Exciting trails and varied meadow and alpine paths ensure that a plethora of techniques is required along the way. And the view of the majestic Dolomite peaks is the jewel in the Sellaronda’s crown. The starting point is Selva Gardena/Wolkenstein in Val Gardena, heading up to the Gardena Pass before descending to Colfosco/Kolfuschg and Corvara in Val Badia. From there, you regain altitude with a gondola before enjoying the descent to the Campolongo Pass and on to Arabba in Livinallongo del Col di Lana. The next stages are the Pordoi Pass, Canazei, and Campitello in Val di Fassa, which are also well connected with lifts. You then step on the pedals once more to climb up to the Sella Pass before finally returning to Selva Gardena/Wolkenstein. Welcoming mountain lodges and inns make this the perfect tour.
Anticlockwise Tour
A tour for experts.
Anyone taking on the Sellaronda in an anticlockwise direction should be aware that it differs radically from its younger sister circuit. It begins in Selva Gardena/Wolkenstein in Val Gardena and not only orbits the Sella group anticlockwise, but also on a different, far more demanding route: This time, there are only three gondolas instead of five to lessen the elevation gain by 2,400 metres. The remaining 1,020 vertical metres present a tempting challenge for seasoned riders. To compensate for the physical exertion, this variant likewise offers innumerable panoramic views of the most majestic of all Dolomite peaks, and also regularly passes by lodges and inns where you can rest and find refreshment. Those tackling the Sellaronda in an anticlockwise direction are recommended to do so in the company of an accredited bike guide, and our expert MTB leaders will ensure that everything runs smoothly.

History of Novosibirsk Oblast
Over thousands of years, the territory of the Novosibirsk region, due to its location on the border of natural zones and cultural regions (the Siberian taiga and the Eurasian steppe), played the role of a buffer zone or border zone of different peoples.
In the 13th-15th centuries, this land was the eastern outskirts of the Golden Horde. Later, until the end of the 16th century, it was part of the Siberian Khanate. In the 18th century, the territory of the present Novosibirsk region became part of the Russian Empire.
Despite the relatively favorable climate, the Russians began to settle here relatively late. The Barabin Tatars were the indigenous people. Today, their total population is about 10,000 people living mainly in the western parts of the region.
The Barabin Tatars were subjected to constant attacks of the Kalmyks (the Oyrates and Teleuts). Russian villages were also under the threat. That’s why people preferred to settle in the north, near Tomsk. Only at the end of the 17th century, Novosibirsk province became attractive to settlers.
More Historical Facts…
The first settlement was founded by the boyar son Alexey Kruglik in 1695. Later, this settlement became the village of Kruglikovo. Today, it is located in Bolotninsky district. In the early 18th century, Berdsky stockaded town was built. Over time, the threat from the nomads decreased and the number of settlers increased.
In 1722, the Siberian line of fortresses along the Irtysh River was constructed. The locals were mainly engaged in soil tilling, fishing and hunting. In the early 19th century, the famous Ural manufacturer Akinfiy Demidov constructed two copper melting plants here - Kolyvansky and Barnaulsky.
In 1893, due to the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway and the railway bridge across the Ob River, Alexandrovsky settlement was built (from 1895 - Novonikolayevsky). Thanks to its convenient geographical location (the Trans-Siberian Railway crossing the Ob River, transportation ways connecting Siberia with the European part of the Russian Empire), its trade importance grew rapidly. In 1909, Novonikolayevsk became a town. In 1925, it was renamed in Novosibirsk.
Before 1921, the territory of Novosibirsk oblast was part of Tomsk gubernia, from 1921 to 1925 - of Novonikolayevsk gubernia, from 1925 to 1930 - of Siberian krai, from 1930 to 1937 - of West Siberian krai. September 28, 1937, West Siberian krai was divided into Novosibirsk oblast and Altay krai. This date is considered the official date of the region formation.
Novosibirsk Oblast - Features
Novosibirsk Oblast is located in the south east of the East-Siberian Plain, in the steppe, forest-steppe and taiga zones, between the Ob and the Irtysh rivers. The length of the region from west to east - 642 km, from north to south - 444 km.
The southern part of Vasyugan swamp, the largest swamp in the world, occupies the territory in the north and north-west of the province. In the southwest, it borders with Pavlodar oblast of Kazakhstan.
There are about 3,000 lakes on the territory of the Novosibirsk region. The largest lakes are Chany, Ubinskoye, Sartlan. Novosibirsk Reservoir also known as “the Ob Sea” (1,082 sq. km.) was created for Novosibirsk Hydroelectric Power Plant.
The climate is continental. The average temperature in January ranges from minus 16 degrees Celsius in the south and minus 20 degrees Celsius in the north. The average temperature in July - plus 18-20 degrees Celsius.
The largest cities and towns are Novosibirsk (1,621,000), Berdsk (103,500), Iskitim (54,700), Kuybishev (43,000). Novosibirsk is one the largest industrial, transport, scientific, and cultural center of Russia, the third most populous city in the country after Moscow and St. Petersburg. It is also the capital of the Siberian Federal District.
In the historical part of Novosibirsk you can find a lot of preserved monuments of the Russian Empire times. The Soviet era is presented by numerous scientific and cultural attractions, as well as beautiful parks.
There are more than 500 deposits of various mineral resources in Novosibirsk Oblast (coal, refractory clay, peat, anthracite). Natural gas and oil fields are located in the north-western part of the region. There are significant reserves of underground thermal and mineral waters. Forests cover about 4 million hectares, more than 20% of the territory.
Novosibirsk Oblast is one of the most industrially developed regions in Siberia (metal processing and machine building, food, power engineering, non-ferrous metallurgy industries). Heavy industries are concentrated in Novosibirsk, Iskitim and Berdsk.
The regional agriculture specializes in the cultivation of grain, potatoes and vegetables. Dairy cattle breeding, poultry farming and beekeeping are developed. The production of flax plays an important role too. Agricultural development of the territory is not high (about 48%). In general, it has about 25% of all agricultural land in Western Siberia.
