Oceania Cruises’ Specialty Restaurants

Oceania Cruises

The Marina, Regatta, Nautica and Insignia each have specialty restaurants Toscana (Italian) and Polo Grill. Marina also has Jacques (French, named for Jacques Pépin) and Red Ginger (Japanese and Vietnamese). Reservations can be made in advance online or on board and number of reservations may be dependent on sailing category. There is no additional charge for any of these specialty dining rooms.

The Marina and the Riveria each offer two exclusive dining experiences at Privee and La Reserve available at an additional cost.

Privée stands alone as Oceania Cruises’ most indulgent, one-of-a-kind dining experience. Even superlatives pale when describing Marina’s ultimate venue, which you may reserve solely for exclusive parties of as many as ten privileged guests. Opulently decorated with Ferrari Red carpeting, oversized white baby crocodile throne chairs, ornate Baroque millwork, and flanked by backlit onyx-clad walls, the setting for Privée is absolutely exquisite. A custom-made oval table, illuminated by a white Venini glass chandelier, lies at its heart, accentuating the culinary magic that awaits you.  Guests will be able to enjoy a menu selected from Polo Grill, Toscana or a combination of both. Each guest can select their own menu. Within the sanctum of Privée, dining engages all the senses, leaving you and your guests immensely fulfilled. This dining extravaganza can be reserved for $250 per evening for a party of up to 10 guests.

La Reserve The clink of wine glasses signals the beginning of a very special event, an exclusive affair for only 24 fortunate guests to savor La Reserve by Wine Spectator. Perched high atop Deck 12, La Reserve by Wine Spectator is decorated in a sophisticated decor to provide the ideal venue for wine tastings and gourmet dinners.

During the day, you might sample a flite of distinctive vintages from the wine cellar, each one hand-selected by the head sommelier to reflect the region of the world in which you’re sailing. Tastings are developed by Wine Spectator and do not require advanced reservations. Please check Daily Currents for specific times.

Evenings are reserved for more elaborate affairs, such as seven-course, gourmet dinners where each course is delightfully paired with carefully selected premium wines. The innovative menus are designed exclusively for that evening by the Executive Chef, pairing Oceania Cruises’ signature “finest cuisine at sea” with vintage wines recommended by the connoisseurs at Wine Spectator. It’s an experience food and wine aficionados will savor long after the affair has concluded. Advance reservation required.

Choose from three menus consisting of a seven-course gourmet dinner with seven different wine flites; The Explorer and Discovery Menus are $95 per guest* and the Connoisseur Menu is $165 per guest*

Specialty restaurant reservations with "Dining Segments"

Our upcoming cruise this winter will be our first cruise on O since covid, and I don't remember anything like this earlier.  We are booked on a 20-day cruise on Marina, and staying in a suite, so we get 3 reservations at each of the 4 restaurants.  This is not a B2B cruise, but a single 20-day segment.  When we tried to make reservations, we discovered there are two buttons to select the "Dining Segment".  The first segment covers the first 12 days, and the second covers the final 8 days:

image.png.b6b2aee57e57c20f68614d5620ae53aa.png

Note that "?" in circle is not clickable to explain what it means.  So we discovered we were not able to book the same restaurant twice in that final dining segment.  We get the error message "You've reached your limit for this time segment, would you like to replace your existing reservation with this one?".  Through trial and error, we discovered we could book two at the same restaurant during the first dining segment, but not two during the second.

First, is this normal and what is the purpose?  It almost sounds like O has this coded in their computer that this is a B2B cruise with two segments, but it is not.  Has O discovered that people like to eat at specialty restaurants toward the end of their cruise so they want to try limit the number of reservations during this time to let everyone have a shot at them?  Why no limitations during the first dining segment?

Are you are booked on a Grand Voyage  which consists of  2 cruises

The purpose  for delaying your booking for the  2nd segment is to give those booked on that cruise the opportunity to book the reservations  in the same  time frame

If you are in a top suite you get to book  90 days  from Feb 26 th

You are still ahead of most on that segment

As I clearly stated in my post, this is not a B2B or Grand Voyage.  It is a single 20-day cruise.  In fact, at the transition point between the two dining segments, we are in the middle of 5 consecutive sea days cruising in Antarctica; no one is embarking or disembarking.

I just  went to see  your sailing

I am surprised you can even book this early

Usually it is 90  days out  not 5 mths ??

Maybe call O on Monday & find out  why

You booked what O officially calls an “extended journey” (two consecutive segments with a single booking number that is marketed as a single cruise. If not marketed that way and you have a single booking number with two cruise ID numbers, you booked a “custom cruise” (also splits the dining dates).  Recently, O reintroduced “grand voyages” with marketed cruises of three or more segments and single booking number. They too will have split dining booking dates.

As I said in a previous post, this is definitely not two segments (at least on those dates they show for the segments).  We are at sea cruising in Antarctica on the day one segment ends and another begins.  No one is getting off the ship on that day, unless we hit an iceberg and need to abandon ship 🙂

@LHT28 We can book restaurants this early since we are in a suite and can therefore book at time of final payment, which we made today.

So my question remains, why is this cruise broken into two dining segments.  If anyone wants to take a look, the cruise is here (the days for the dining segments are in my first post above):

Uhh....  But it is.   It's even being sold as a B2B2B.

O is selling:

Santiago → Buenos Aires, 20 days

Santiago → Rio de Janeiro, 30 days

Santiago → Miami,  51 days

All departing Santiago, 14 Feb '24 on Marina.

I think  the OP  cruise  may start with 2 others but  their segment  is  not over lapping  but the  other 2 cruises are

 Feb 14 to Mar 5   20 days

Feb 14 to March 15  30 days

Fen 15  to Apr 5  51 days

Only Oceania  has the  answer  of why they have the  reservations  blocked  for part of their  cruise

It does seem strange  as there are a limited number of top suites   that can now book & even if they all booked the same restaurant on the same night  there would still be seating for others onboard

Yes, the cruise can be booked as a B2B.  But we are only on the 20 day segment and the dining segment break is in the middle of those 20 days.  The break on the dining reservation page is Feb. 25 where one ends and Feb 26 when one starts.  There is no B2B that starts/ends on those dates, and as I have said, we are cruising in Antarctica on those days and definitely no one is getting on/off the ship.

It sounds like this is not normal to have dining segment break in the middle of a cruise segment, and no one really knows why?  Its no big deal for us, we just swapped two of our restaurant reservations around, but it just seems strange.

Indeed……appears a bit of a mystery.

If you ever find out why, please post the reason.

I looked into it and was reminded that I’ve seen this before with single segments that are about 3 weeks long. The reservations blocks are split so that reservations are forced into a somewhat equal distribution where you must split your allotment over the multiple blocks (both by number and specific restaurant.

I’m trying to find where I can see how many speciality dining reservations can be made for concierge vs penthouse on O. (18 night cruise). If someone could help I would appreciate it!

It's worth noting that, if you are on a multi-segment "extended journey" (marketed as a single cruise with a single booking number) or on a multi-segment "custom cruise" (also with a single booking number), your pre-cruise reservation allotment is based on X reservations per segment .

For example, on a 17 day one segment cruise, veranda cabins get one pre-reservation for each specialty restaurant (i.e. 2 on R ships and 4 on O ships). However, if your 17 day multi-segment (single booking number) cruise consists of a 7 day segment and a 10 day segment, a veranda cabin would get double the allotment  (i.e. 4 on R ships and 8 on O ships). The only caveat is that you would have to book each segment's allotment for dates during that segment.

And, of course, you can always add reservations (space available) once onboard.

Now thats only 1/2 the program.    You can make, on board unlimited reservations in any venue. . if space is available and your flexable once on board.   Every morning you can see whats opening...  on a 18 day cruise there will be lots of openings once on board     It does not matter whether your in the Owner Suite or an Inside.    O treats everyone equal outside their cabin...  In penthouses and above  you can order in cabin dining from any venue too !

ORV

Dan, in theory that's the way it is, but a good butler can get those in the Upper rooms extras when us peons in the lower rooms can't . Been there done that. But you are right that when you're on the ship pretty much everyone is treated the same.

I just booked some reservations this morning, and realized that if you are booking with another room then you can't chose sharing, at least I didn't see any way to do that. Perhaps if I had picked Sharing first then I could have added the other couple. Anyone have any experience with that?

Mura

I have had success in adding another couple to a reservation (online) where initially we were alone.  But I also have to say that more often I've needed to call Oceania to accomplish this ... once I think our TA took care of it for us.  As long as you have both booking numbers you should be okay.

On our last cruise (on Riviera) we had made sharing reservations (with strangers) for 7:30 in Polo.  My itinerary said 7:30, the postcard reminder said 7:30, but the restaurant thought we were due at 6:30.  Fortunately they found a table for two for us when we showed up, and they said the other couple hadn't had a problem either.  That happened to be the same cruise where they lost our reservation for La Reserve ... but our butler was on top of that situation and solved the problem.  We ended up at a more expensive dinner for the same price as the cheaper dinner so even though it was for another evening, we had no complaints.

You say NO to sharing  then  ADD A GUEST   I think is the wording

You need their booking number  ..if that fails call Oceania  & ask them to add your other party

Maybe I wasn't clear, I had the guest added, but the times I wanted were not always available, I wanted to Share, but our group of 4 wanted to share with others to maybe get an earlier time.

Just now, ORV said: Maybe I wasn't clear, I had the guest added, but the times I wanted were not always available, I wanted to Share, but our group of 4 wanted to share with others to maybe get an earlier time.

I misunderstood you  then

Maybe call Oceania  & ask if they can make it work with the 4 of you  to join  a sharing table with others

That does sound more complicated than I was thinking about as well!  I agree with Lyn:  give Oceania a call.

We ended up at a table for 6 on our last cruise in I forget which restaurant -- probably Toscana.  They were a group of 4 who checked in just ahead of us ... so maybe that's why we were seated together.  They were two British couples and it was one of the most delightful meals we've ever had on a cruise.

A  note.... if your  on a  cruise longer than 14 days,   many just get tired of the specialties.    Some like myself  only care about 1 or 2 for the specialties Red Ginger and Jacques    Also people frequently make lots of reservations and dont  show up or they cancel them.

Any time the sea begins to move the ship even slightly  you will see all sorts of cancel's    So it pays to  ask not only in the morning  but in the evening as well......   On a 28 day cruise....  you can get almost any time you want where you want.

Thanks
