Star Trek: What Happened To Data?

A canceled game of thrones spinoff has been brought back to life, 7 best superhero comics that are not published by marvel or dc.

The Star Trek franchise provides several of the most iconic alien species in science fiction history. Klingons and Vulcans stand out among most of the aliens on TV. For every iconic example of extraterrestrial life in the Star Trek universe, many series provide a dozen species that appear once or twice before disappearing into obscurity. Sometimes they slowly build an alien species over the course of years until they introduce a main character from its ranks. That was the slow roll-out the Saurians experienced.

Though Star Trek frequently indulges in the Planet of Hats trope , they just as often introduce alien races that behave just like human beings. Some Star Trek races have one character trait that informs every representative and all of their dialogue, while others do everything humans do despite looking the way they do. It's a fascinating way to use alien makeup, often depicting the utopian future of endless unique species operating as one bold collective.

What is a Saurian?

Saurians are an alien species from Star Trek . They are large, humanoid lizards with most of the features one would associate with reptiles. They're taller than humans, on average. In place of skin, they have thick scales. Their scales tend to be gray, pink, or dull green. Their massive eyes tend to lack irises or any other features. They have two sets of eyelids around their pitch-black orbs. That unique trait allows them to see a far greater spectrum of light and detail than humans. Other aspects of their biology provided substantial evolutionary weaknesses. Saurians shed their skin annually, forcing them to quarantine themselves to avoid contaminating clean areas. They also endured more severe symptoms when afflicted with conditions like the common cold due to their six nasal canals.

Their native language consists mainly of clicks and pops. It's unusual enough that the universal translator sometimes struggles to capture it. They seem to eat plants, as they're most often seen eating bamboo. Saurian culture doesn't come up often, but it's known that they spawn clutches of eggs and raise their young as communal multifamily units. They have distilled and bottled a unique liquor called Saurion brandy since at least the late 22nd century. It was extremely popular and common in the Federation. The Saurians have served the Federation for several centuries.

Where did Saurians first appear?

Star Trek mentioned the Saurian species years before they depicted them. Saurian brandy appears in several early episodes of The Original Series . Season one, episode four, "The Enemy Within," is the first episode to mention Saurian brandy. It depicts an evil doppelgänger of Captain Kirk demanding the unique liquor and wandering around drunk. Janice Rand brings up Saurian brandy in the following episode, and Kirk offers it to another ship's crew in episode seven. The first Saurian in the franchise appeared in Star Trek: The Motion Picture , 13 years after their first mention in a script. That Saurion doesn't have a name and is never identified in dialogue. Instead, extraneous details labeled the pink-scaled reptile. Costume designers Fred Phillips and Robert Fletcher added details to the Saurian and every other race they designed. The Saurians went dormant for several decades before introducing a central character in Star Trek: Discovery . It's a bizarre path for a Star Trek species , but it eventually led to a fun character.

Notable Saurians in Star Trek

The franchise's most iconic Saurian is Linus from Star Trek: Discovery . David Benjamin Tomlinson portrayed Linus and several other costumed aliens. Linus is a relatively minor figure in Discovery , but his comic relief scenes add a ton to the series. He frequently used a personal transporter that transported him to unexpected locations and awkward encounters. Linus is a sciences division officer who decided to stay aboard the Discovery as it traveled into the future. Most recently, he became the Spore Drive Operations Officer after a promotion. Other Saurians in Star Trek include:

  • Y'Shi: Jean-Luc Picard has a Saurian skull in his trophy room. Production designer Dave Blass later identified him as Commodore Y'Shi, named after Yoshi from the Super Mario franchise. Picard presumably killed him at some point.
  • The Commander of the USS Titan was an unnamed gray-skinned Saurian.
  • At least one Saurian scientist served on the Enterprise during its refit in the 2270s.
  • A Saurian diplomat worked under Federation President Laira Rillak while bringing the Vulcan's homeworld back into the Federation.
  • Aennik Okeg: Okeg is the first Saurian President of the Federation, though his election and reign are non-canonical.

The Saurians have a strange path through the Star Trek franchise. They existed as a meaningless background detail for decades before they became a notable species. Their planet, background, and many of their representatives remain non-canonical. Star Trek and its genre stablemates can drop alien species names on any detail of the world without tying it to anything. The Saurians are more than just the universe's favorite brandy distillery.

The most famous android in Star Trek has had a huge impact on the franchise.

Saurian Name Generator (Star Trek)

This generator will produce 15 random names at one time, fit for the Star Trek universe Saurian species. The Saurians are a bipedal reptile race. They have big eyes, a skin that is either red, brown or green (and something in between) and typically looks like a lizard's humanoid version. They have a second set of eyelids in their eyes, which allowed them to see infrarot. In terms of physical operation Saurians exist on a very wild planet. Volcanic eruptions, temperature changes, poisonous emissions and a naturally hot atmosphere have transformed the Saurians into extremely resilient creatures. But what they are most popular for is not their strength, it's their Saurian brandy. A space-wide popular alcoholic drink, so popular in reality that not only did many races enthusiastically trade for it, it was also sold to the Romulan Empire. Sadly no Saurians have ever been named in official canon works, although they are named in the Star Trek Online game. The game isn't exactly strict about sticking to mythology, but we still used the names as the basis for this generator. Mostly because that is partly what these generators are supposed to do. Saurian names are rather guttural but they don't have hissing sounds like you would expect from reptilian names unlike Gorn names. In certain cases, female names are much more melodic but the distinctions are very slight.

In the science fiction series "Star Trek", the characters are the Federation crew from the planet Utopia Planitia and its many star systems. This series has been around since the first episode aired and to date is the most popular television show ever created. In this space adventure series, humans are on the brink of being destroyed by a race of aliens, the Borg. The Federation crew, known as the USS Enterprise, works to stop this race from destroying all life in the galaxy.

In the most recent Star Trek movie, "Star Trek Into Darkness", the evil species are called the Borg. In this film, the aliens are portrayed as having a very evil demeanor. The Borg Queen is one of their main villains and as such becomes a central player in the film. She takes over the ship and proceeds to torture the crew with extreme xenophobia. The star trek saurian brandy is a tribute to the fans who love the show but also to the movie.

The Saurian brandy was named after a series of commercials produced for the brand. They were shown during the commercial breaks. The advertisement featured a Klingon warrior drinking Saurian. The Klingon warriors were seen wearing Klingon style battle armor, which is the same type of armor that is seen on Klingons on the Star Trek Enterprise. The brand is also known as the "Klingon brandy". It is made by the American giant liquor company, Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Star Trek Saurian Name Quiz

Welcome to the star trek saurian name quiz. Having a name like Linus is the best way to show people you're a real Star-Trek fan. However, if you'd like to get more specific about your name, you can use thesauriannamegenerator.com to generate up to ten random names. You can even share your results with your friends and family! The first step is to learn more about the different Saurian names. In the original series, you'll learn the origins of each species. You'll learn about how they evolved from their wild home, and you'll discover that their names are very distinctive. In the movie, the name of their planet is derived from the word "saurian," which means "saurian". But it's not that easy. The best way to find out if your name is a myth is to make up your own. Think of phrases and words that move together. You could also use the history of the respective kingdoms, elements, or legends of those countries. The next step is to think of a name that sounds like your personality. While some Star Wars characters have strange names, Saurians tend to stick closely to the original lore. They're not shy about sticking with their own lore, and their names have reptilian-sounding, guttural sounds. Female Saurian names are somewhat more melodic, but there's no difference between male and female ones.

The surface consists of major islands and seas, with no continents . ( ST reference : The Worlds of the Federation )

Intense weather and a hot climate prompted the evolution of nocturnal animal life . Surface features included volcanoes and large rain forests . It was rich in dilithium , tritanium , and transuranic elements . ( ENT - Rise of the Federation novel : A Choice of Futures )

Its atmosphere had a lower percentage of oxygen than on Earth . ( TOS reference : Official Cooking Manual )

History [ ]

Before the Saurians had a unified planetary government , the Global League 's name for their planet was Lyaksti'kton , while the M'Tezir called it N'Ragolar . ( ENT - Rise of the Federation novel : A Choice of Futures )

First contact with Humans occurred in 2157 , when the crew of the Earth Cargo Service freighter ECS Silk Road , made contact for supplies. As the various planetary governments did not have a common name for themselves, the Silk Road crew referred to them collectively as Saurians . The name was eventually adopted, with the planet referred to as Sauria.

The Saurians had a scientific theory similar to basic warp understanding, despite not yet having developed any sort of practical spaceflight .

By 2162 , the Saurians had put their spaceflight knowledge to use and constructed at least two primitive space stations in orbit or their world. The Global League's orbital outpost was named Tai'sheku and the M'Tezir's M'Tezir One . Both of these stations hailed the USS Essex when it approached to make official Federation first contact. ( ENT - Rise of the Federation novel : A Choice of Futures )

In 2385 , Quark bought a new bar from a metalwright on Sauria for Deep Space 9 . ( ST - The Fall novel : Revelation and Dust )

Ten Forward Fridays: Saurian

Welcome to Ten Forward Fridays, where a new playable species is presented for the Star Trek Adventures roleplaying game, filling in some gaps until official material can be released. For December we’re returning to the time of Star Trek: The Original Series , presenting species that could be used in games set in and around TOS. This week is the reptilian Saurians .

A Saurian crewmember appeared in the background of Star Trek: The Motion Picture , but the species hasn’t really been seen since. This makes them fairly unremarkable on the surface, one of many background aliens in the group shots of the film series. However, the species live on through regular references to “Saurian brandy” in the various series, which was first mentioned in The Original Series episode 1×04 The Enemy Within , one of several references to the beverage in that series alone. This makes Saurians recognisable by name, which, along with their rarer lizard-like biology, makes them a good addition.

Novels and other sources suggest Earth encountered the Saurians early in the 22nd Century, with the year 2157 given (placing first contact in the time jump that occurred between Star Trek: Enterprise 4×21 Terra Prime and 4×22 These are the Voyages… ). This makes the species one of the older members of the Federation, a well- established people during the familiar eras. A Saurian is unlikely to be serving on a Starfleet vessel in the Star Trek: Enterprise era, but they would work very shortly after, perhaps even during the Earth-Romulan War. They’d almost certainly work in the decades prior to Star Trek The Original Series and even Star Trek Discovery .

There may be a mistake on the Saurian page, specifically under “Tenacious Will”. Are you supposed to get 2 d20 rerolls when you do or do not have a Focus? Because at the moment it says you get a bonus to reroll when have NO applicable focus, which seems counter to what its meant to do.

"Jester" David Avatar

There was a typo in that sentence but the intent was that you get to re-roll a dice if you have a Focus but can re-roll an additional dice if you don’t have the Focus. If you’re spending your Determination to get a second Task and it’s not something you specialise in, you’re given better odds.

[…] species in Star Trek Online and, of course, one of the species written up by Jester David here on this site. They are a fun species to portray, particularly because of their famous Saurian brandy which […]

Saurian (Star Trek)

Biology [ ].

Saurians are fairly similar to Earth lizards in ways such as scaly skin and oviparous means of gestation, they evolved in an environment with five times the gravity of a standard M-Class planet. they have a mostly humanoid body type except for the fact they have either yellow or black eyes with vertical and horizontal eyelids, and six nasal passages which causes much discomfort when infected with diseases such as the common cold, they are believed to share a common ancestor with the Gorn going back at least ten thousand years, they shed their skin yearly and they have skin tones such as smooth red, brown, green, grey, pink and purple.

Saurians possess four hearts, which initially beat each in a different rhythm but as they age and reach the prime of their lives, they synchronize and beat as one.

  • Most of the information about this species comes from non-canon sources. For a long time, the only canonical appearance of Saurians occurred as one of the background aliens in Star Trek: The Motion Picture . Saurian brandy, however, has been mentioned numerous times on the original series and Deep Space Nine . Later, Linus, a Saurian, would become a recurring character in Discovery .
  • The Mego released action figure of a Saurian was incorrectly labelled as a " Rigellian ".

Starfleet career [ ]

Member of the uss discovery [ ].

Linus, 2256

Ensign Linus (2256)

Linus served on the Discovery as an ensign under Captain Gabriel Lorca in 2256 . ( DIS : " Face the Strange ")

By the following year, he had been promoted to lieutenant junior grade . At the time of the arrival of Captain Christopher Pike , Commander Nhan , and Lieutenant Evan Connolly from the USS Enterprise , Linus was sick, and sneezed on Connolly in a turbolift ride to the bridge . ( DIS : " Brother ")

He was later present on the bridge when Ensign Sylvia Tilly was taking her spot in the Command Training Program , only to be distracted by an entity only visible to her . Along with the rest of the bridge crew , Linus looked puzzled as to why it appeared she was talking to no one. ( DIS : " Point of Light ")

While present at a briefing on the Red Angel , Linus apologized that Discovery 's universal translator was still having difficulty translating Saurian into Federation Standard . He proceeded to explain that there was no known analogs to the images of the Red Angel.

When Discovery was pulled out of warp by a large, mysterious sphere , Linus assisted Commander Michael Burnham with analyzing the sphere. He reported that the sphere was approximately 100,000 years old . ( DIS : " An Obol for Charon ")

Linus was eating bamboo while sharing a meal and discussion with fellow Discovery crewmembers Joann Owosekun , Keyla Detmer , Nilsson , and Paul Stamets . Jett Reno joined them and challenged them to an autoantonym game, reminding Linus he was "0-for-3" so far and asking him if he was ready for "another round". Linus replied he was " hatched ready". During this exchange, Reno called Linus by the nickname " Bamboo Boy ". ( DIS : " Through the Valley of Shadows ")

Linus was one of the crew members who volunteered to stay on Discovery and accompany Commander Michael Burnham into the 32nd century . Based on the testimonies of the USS Enterprise senior officers following the battle near Xahea , Starfleet had presumed him as dead. ( DIS : " Such Sweet Sorrow ", " Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2 ")

32nd century [ ]

After arriving in 3189 , Linus assisted in repairs of the EPS relay system. He informed Commander Nhan that the grid on deck six had been repaired and she directed him to report to deck eight for additional repairs. Philippa Georgiou asked about Linus's visual spectrum, which he stated was 74,000 nanometers. Georgiou then volunteered to accompany him to deck eight, though it was a ruse so she could leave the ship to find Saru and Tilly. ( DIS : " Far From Home ")

Linus was eating in the mess hall when United Earth Defense Force inspectors transported aboard. ( DIS : " People of Earth ")

Linus had more trouble than most crew members learning to use the personal transporters provided by the Federation once Discovery tracked down its headquarters. Attempting to beam to the mess hall, he found himself instead in the captain's chair on the bridge. Later he unintentionally beamed into a turbolift occupied by Burnham and Cleveland Booker , having meant to go to the science lab . ( DIS : " Scavengers ")

Prior to Discovery 's mission to Kwejian , Linus was confined to his quarters due to his annual shed. Linus was working when Booker and Burnham returned to Discovery with the Steward of the Sanctuary 's, Kyheem , and his son Leto . Leto called Linus a "lizard", but according to Burnham, he would allow the child to take a piece of his skin. ( DIS : " The Sanctuary ")

Following Discovery 's hijacking and return to Federation Headquarters, Linus wore the updated 32nd century uniform on the Bridge when Burnham was promoted and first took command of Discovery . ( DIS : " That Hope Is You, Part 2 ")

In 3190 , Linus was present in dress uniform for the re-opening of Starfleet Academy , and was assembled with the Discovery bridge crew when Federation President Laira Rillak thanked them for everything they left behind to travel to the future. ( DIS : " Kobayashi Maru ")

Later that year, Linus was temporarily indisposed due to having to spend time under a heating lamp . Ensign Adira Tal was assigned to his bridge station during Discovery 's mission into the subspace rift left by the Dark Matter Anomaly . ( DIS : " Stormy Weather ")

By the year 3191 , Linus had received a promotion to Lieutenant, and had become the new Spore Drive Operations Officer aboard the Discovery . ( DIS : " Red Directive ")

At the conclusion of Discovery 's Red Directive mission to find the Progenitors technology, Linus attended Saru and T'Rina 's wedding on Ni'Var in dress uniform . ( DIS : " Life, Itself ")

Personal interests [ ]

Linus played the piano . ( DIS : " Choose to Live ") He had laid three clutches of eggs by 3191 , which were raised by his community as per Saurian tradition. ( DIS : " Jinaal ")

Background information [ ]

Linus was played by regular guest actor David Benjamin Tomlinson .

According to the Star Trek Adventures - Discovery Campaign Guide , Linus' real name might be Lss't-kel'sar. The book describes the Saurian language as consisting of clicks, chirps and growls, explaining that Saurians pick a name from Federation Standard that they would like to be called. Lss't-kel'sar (Linus) is listed as one of the example names.

Genshin Impact Devs Confirm Great News For F2P Players In Natlan Update

Genshin impact: where & how to get obsidian codex artifacts, how the new genshin impact 5.0 character & weapon banner rates work.

Three types of Saurians were introduced with the release of Genshin Impact 5.0, all of which can be interacted with and even controlled, seeing that the Natlan region permits players to embody these creatures through a process known as Saurian Indwelling. Saurians are native creatures to the land of Pyro and, while they dwell in that Nation, they are not all necessarily aligned with the Pyro element itself, much like the Natlan characters in Genshin Impact have different Elemental Types. Saurians are dragon-like creatures that live harmoniously among the various human tribes and factions within the region.

Each of these Saurian types is somewhat aligned to one of the game’s seven elements, though their main focus is not necessarily on providing elemental prowess in combat but enhanced mobility depending on their environment. With Saurian Indwelling, players can burrow underground and climb vertical walls, use a grappling hook to reach new heights, or even swim at enhanced speed across rivers and lakes. New Saurian types in Genshin Impact should be added with upcoming patches, as well as the tribes that revere them, expanding the gameplay possibilities, especially when it comes to mobility across the Natlan region.

Following Genshin Impact's latest Natlan gameplay trailer, HoYoverse clarifies that older characters will also be able to use Saurians for traversal.

Tepetlisaurus - Geo Saurian In Genshin Impact 5.0

Tepetlisauri live with the children of echoes tribe in natlan.

The first Saurian type that players are likely to encounter as they venture into Natlan is known as Tepetlisaurus. This Geo-aligned Saurian is a massive creature with a bulky body and large scales protruding from its back. Tepetlisauri also boast a hardened horn, which allows them to burrow underground. When using Saurian Indwelling on a Tepetlisaurus, players can use their new Saurian body to dig underground and move beneath the earth with increased movement speed . While in this state, players can also use the Tepetlisaurus to climb up vertical walls in Genshin Impact . This, however, consumes Phlogiston.

Tepetlisauri are revered by the Children of Echoes tribe, located toward the eastern portion of Natlan.

While moving underground with the Tepetlisaurus, players can also jump, which makes the creature leap out of the ground and then reenter wherever they land, be that ground or a wall. When using the attack action while underground, the Tepetlisaurus causes powerful tremors and can detect hidden underground objects . By using this attack, they can also free the objects, essentially digging up treasures that can be collected across Natlan. Tepetlisauri are great for reaching high locations and moving around quickly with the possibility of finding secrets in Genshin Impact .

To start farming the Obsidian Codex Artifacts in Genshin Impact, you will first need to find and unlock the Sanctum of Rainbow Spirits Domain.

Yumkasaurus - Dendro Saurian In Genshin Impact 5.0

This saurian has enhanced mobility & is perfect for exploration.

Likely the second type of Saurians that players will see right after leaving the Children of Echoes tribe is known as Yumkasaurus. This dinosaur-like creature has a green body, long legs, and a fluffy tail. When players use Saurian Indwelling with Yumkasauri, they unlock their exclusive abilities. Yumkasauri are capable of using their tongues as grappling hooks , which can be positioned to reach greater heights or lunge forward. In fact, this ability can be used twice in a row. With the Yumkasaurus form, players can also double-jump, combining the ability with the leaps to cover more ground in Genshin Impact .

Yumkasauri live with the Scions of the Canopy tribe in Natlan.

While using their grapple tongue in the air, Yumkasauri can hover as they select the next grappling location. In addition to their powerful leaps and lunges, Yumkasauri can also run up walls, further increasing their mobility abilities. Another powerful skill used by Yumkasauri is using their tongues to grab Flamegranates. These fruits can then be hurled forward and, upon impact, they explode . As such, this can be used as a combat tactic, especially as an opening move against groups of unaware enemies in Natlan. For now, Yumkausari are the most mobile Saurians in Genshin Impact , especially in wider areas.

Players will see a series of positive changes to the mechanics of both the limited character and weapon banners starting with Genshin Impact 5.0.

Koholasaurus - Hydro Saurian In Genshin Impact 5.0

These creatures can move quickly through liquid surfaces in natlan.

Koholasauri are possibly the final Saurian type that players will encounter in Version 5.0, thanks to how far away they are located from the starting zone in Natlan. Briefly described, these Hydro-aligned creatures are like sharks with legs. As is expected from their body type and location, Koholasauri can quickly swim through both water and liquid phlogiston , making them a valuable means of transport across these surfaces when using Saurian Indwelling. These creatures can swim at enhanced movement speed and can lunge out of the water in Genshin Impact .

The Koholasauri live harmoniously with the People of the Springs tribe in Natlan.

Furthermore, Koholasaurus creatures can fly through Spiritways, pre-established paths of Phlogiston. They can also use Jet-Set Eddies to leap upward. Outside of liquid surfaces and these mechanics, Koholasauri are not too mobile, but they are the best for exploring areas like the Toyac Springs. There is much to look out for in Natlan’s future, including new Saurian types and the release of Xilonen in Genshin Impact 5.1 , for example.
