Margaret River Wineries: Voyager Estate Lunch Discovery Menu

Avatar

Six courses matched with six wines which tell the story of Voyager Estate. I have never had such a mind-blowing dining experience and I have to say a HUGE thank-you to the Voyager team for inviting me along. The Discovery Menu at Voyager Estate is not just a dining experience, it is an interactive journey through food, wine and the history of the property. You are delivered post cards by the wonderful wait staff before the surprise dish comes out. For one of the courses you even get the honour of the chef coming to your table to explain the deliciousness in front of you.

I could write 5000 words on how amazing this experience was but I’m going to do this post a little differently and let the photos tell the story. But first I want to let you all know that this was an amazing experience and every single staff member was absolutely fantastic – nothing tops off a lovely meal than great customer service.

So here are the pictures of my 3 hour Voyager sensory adventure…

Everything about Voyager Estate in Margaret River says inspiration. Whether it’s the award-winning restaurant, the wine room or the Cape Dutch architecture with amazing formal gardens, Voyager Estate indulges the senses. Founded by the late Michael Wright, it is the epitome of elegance, opulence and class.

The best experience can be found in the guise of the Estate Tour which offers everything Voyager Estate can provide including wine tasting and lunch in the restaurant.

Gastronomic Excellence in Margaret River – Voyager Estate

Influenced by local and seasonal produce (including herbs grown on the estate), the Vintage Menu gives guests the chance to choose from a variety of dishes with wines selected to match every plate perfectly. Some of the more unusual ingredients featured include sumac, pickled daikon, spatchcock and spring flowers.

Maybe morning or afternoon tea would better suit your needs. The options include venison chorizo or Persian feta accompanied by the appropriate wine. Scones or homemade cake are also on offer with tea or coffee.

If you have more time, then it is highly recommended to experience the Discovery Menu which allows you to partake in a perfectly-designed, six-course meal complete with matching wine, ensuring a heavenly marriage between food and drink.

Speaking of marriage, Voyager Estate can even host your wedding with personalised, undivided attention from the events staff to make sure everything goes off without a hitch (except the one you came for!)

When you are done experiencing all that Voyager Estate has to offer, you can return to the website and download a selection of recipes to help you remember your fabulous day out!

We arrived expecting wine tasting and cheese, but were told our travel agent had booked lunch also, a full 3 hour experience, with wonderful wines. We’ve never been anywhere like it and have tasted wines in Moldova, Chile, France, Georgia, Albania, California and Australias Hunter Valley. The wines and the food together were simply exceptional, the staff knowledgeable and the whole experience is likely to be the highlight of our trip to Australia. The food was memorable, for all the right reasons! And the wines, spectacular - it would be good to have somewhere like this near home. Thank you - Two very happy Brits! Read more Written 11 May 2024

  • 530julieannes 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Wonderful, but pricey Origins Tasting Experience and Lunch My husband and I tried the Origins Tasting Experience and Lunch at Voyager Estate Margaret River. The staff member who conducted the Origins Tasting Experience at Voyager Wines was friendly, polite and knowledgeable. Our Lunch was delicious and the wait staff member Jorya from the Netherlands was attentive and helpful. Other wait staff members were efficient and polite. The Origins Tasting Experience and Lunch was of an extremely high standard, however please be prepared for the prices! $150.00 each for lunch, $40.00 for the Origins Tasting Experience (normally wineries don't charge for a tasting, if you purchase a bottle of their wine-we bought two bottles), $40.00 for a small taste of wines paired with your lunch-I think the wine serving sizes needed to be slightly larger and other non alcoholic drinks purchased were quite expensive. All in all an amazing experience, but please be prepared to come with deeeeeep pockets. We thought it was extremely over priced. Read more Written 31 December 2023

More on the higher cost end for this region, but it needs to be, at it is expected. It was very busy when we visited. The grounds and the buildings look great and are very well maintained, give a great impression as soon as you arrive. We had booked for the Origins wine tasting session followed by a 4 course lunch. The team member who took our tasting session (apologies as I forgot your name) was extremely knowledgeable and gave us a great overview of each wine, as well as the overall process and Voyager's background. We then moved to the dining room for lunch, the room is stunning with a lovely view over the gardens. Every course was amazingly presented and delicious. The staff had also noted my wife doesn't eat seafood and a well thought out replacement was served where required. Dining room service was also excellent with again a good overview of each wine given as we started each course, with a couple of extra tastings thrown in as well! To round off the day you also receive a discounted rate for any wines your purchase so we had to take a few bottles with us. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Voyager Estate

A luxury lunch experience that goes beyond the predictable winery format.

If you have the good luck to travel around WA wine country, eating here and there, it’s true that the upscale winery luncheon can get a tad predictable: clever nibbles, something light, something meaty, dessert. Voyager Estate is a good place to visit if you want to break out of that predictability, not because it strays too far from the format but because there’s a real sense of collaboration between the kitchen and the sommelier, and because Travis Crane is doing some of the finest cooking in the region.

Lamb is accompanied by a mushroom tart so elegant it steals the limelight.

The room, with its high ceilings and candelabra-style chandeliers, is a tad dated; the menu is anything but. Crane is clever – he mixes raw venison with diced rhubarb, the colour and shape of the two almost identical, the contrast in flavours surprising and complementary. His Spanish mackerel fillet is cooked to a glorious medium-rare, its meatiness tempered by a delicate sauce made from caulini and feijoa. Lamb is accompanied by a mushroom tart so elegant it steals the limelight. Service is enthusiastic and professional, with a sense that everyone is working towards the same goal: your pleasure.

Go Behind WA’s Most Beautiful Cellar Door On This Lush Vineyard Tour And Degustation For $280

By Claire Logan – who grew up in an ingredient household and swears by the healing powers of a good martini

6th Mar 2024

voyager estate lunch menu

It seems fitting that one of Margeret River’s most prestigious wineries is home to arguably the south west's most beautiful cellar door, not to mention a seriously stunning degustation. But what might surprise you is how down-to-earth and approachable the wine experiences are at Voyager Estate .

There are a bunch of ways to play, each without a single whiff of that familiar wine snobbery. But to truly get the most of it, we'd highly recommend going all in on their immersive estate tour, tasting and wine lunch.

Voyager Estate's vineyard

Your day starts  on the vines with a relaxed intro to Voyager's sustainable winemaking approach guided by Head Sommelier Claire Tonon (or another member of their wine room team). They'll have you frolicking through the grounds, tasting different grape varieties straight from the vine and learning about the sustainable farming practices that have helped Voyager achieve fully certified organic status in 2023. As they say, good wine starts in the vineyard.

From there you’ll go deep on wine production, learning about the different fermentation and aging techniques, and trying wine straight from the barrel. Seeing it all come together really puts into perspective that despite the fancy veneer, this is a small, family-owned and operated business that relies heavily on its passionate team—many of whom have been here for five, ten years or even longer, which says a lot.

After all that wine education, you’ll be ready to knock back a few sips. Hosted inside the private wine room or beneath the chandeliers in the main hall, the Origins Tasting session will get you up to speed on the varieties that put Voyager on the map—from their iconic chardonnay to cab sav. This is where everything you’ve learnt really comes full circle, and you can start to join the dots between the grape growing, winemaking and what’s in your glass.

Hot tip: if you don't have all day, you can opt for the tasting experience alone, which includes a cheese board and glass of your fave.

A group of people wine tasting at Voyager Estate

Now that you’ve fired up your appetite, it’s time to glide across to the dining hall for lunch. And when we say lunch, we mean a five-course, three-hour degustation experience to rival the best in the region. At Voyager, each dish has been thoughtfully developed to match the wines on offer, so a reversed take on your usual wine-paired experience where the food comes first.

No biggie for Head Chef Travis Crane, though. He plates up lavish seasonal delights featuring freshly foraged produce from their organic kitchen garden and locally sourced sustainable ingredients—all designed to complement each sip.

A beautiful dish from Voyager Estate's degustation

From a moreish potato churro to a refined take on a reuben sandwich, each luxe little morsel served up was more delicious than the next—so no matter which seasonal menu you're blessed with when you visit, it's bound to be beautiful. Just remember to try the wine with the food before inhaling each plate—it’s all designed to work together. Oh and if you really have to drive, don’t stress, they’ve got a designated driver version that’ll keep you under the limit.

The Voyager Unearthed experience will set you back $270pp, which is actually pretty reasonable considering the amount of food, wine and dedicated insight you're getting. The tours are also limited to groups of six, so they’re nice and intimate, especially if you book the whole thing with some mates. There’s also an option to extend to a full-day if you wanna cut your lunch short and add on an interactive food and wine session in the afternoon.

What a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary! Lunch at Voyager- 3 1/2 hours of joy all around. Divine! Not only was the food and wine pairing amazing but also the wonderful staff that explained the dishes and wine with so much care!

Happy anniversary Places63! Thank you for choosing to spend it with us. The wine and food pairing, and the teams explanation of this synergy, is what makes our Discovery degustation truly memorable. Thank you for acknowledging this! Look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Same time next year perhaps? Kind regards, Adam Elton Cellar Door Manager

Where do I start? Myself and my partner would be Margaret River tourist veterans now after many years but today at Voyager Estate opened a whole new world to us and we have now found the best winery in Margaret River. How we never happened to come across this place is beyond us. Claire Tonon a sommelier herself guided us around and explained the vineyard, the winery where Richard the wine maker himself showed us the process to the chefs who explained the 7 course lunch we received on the day is nothing short of top class. $250 for tour and 7 course meal. It's a BARGAIN. Do it. Best money you will ever spend.

Dear Patrickmchugh1984, Thank you for such an amazing review. Coming from Margaret River tourist veterans we are so pleased to be able to deliver a 'wow' experience. Indeed our bookable Unearthed, Estate Tour and Orgins Tasting experiences all provide a wonderful insight into our wines and operation as presented by our knowledgeable, professional and personable team. Our menu does change every 8 weeks so we hope to see you again soon. All the best. Kind regards, Adam Elton Cellar Door Manager

To celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, we treated ourselves to a tour and the 4 course lunch with wine tasting. It was such a wonderful experience, we were there 5 hours, and enjoyed every second. We were driven around the estate, learnt lots about vines, grapes and viticulture. Tasting straight from the oak casks in the cellar, going into the underground cellar, it was all amazing. Back to the restaurant for private seating and tasting in Michael's Room, sublime! Then lunch, 5 stars doesn't even cover it. Thank you Sally for the tour, and Ang for the restaurant service. What a delight this was 🥰

Dear emmar1605, Thank you both for sharing your special 20th wedding anniversary with us. So glad we were able to make this a memorable day for you. All the best. Regards, Adam Elton. Cellar Door Manager.

The service was just simply amazing, the staff were so welcoming, the food was delicious and the wines were the best of its class. What are you doing if you haven't been here

Dear thienanh267, What a wonderful review! Thank you. Hopefully, if they haven't been here they are simply waiting for an opportunity to make their visit. We look forward to creating more wonderful experiences for people and can't wait to welcome back more interstate and international visitors when the time comes. In the meantime, we have loved and appreciate the support we've had from those who have been able to attend, and look forward to future visits. Kind regards, Adam Elton Cellar Door Manager

voyager estate lunch menu

Travel beyond the Cellar Door with an immersive exploration of our craft and terroir.

Guests are invited to experience a special patch of land in Margaret River, from the rich soils of the Voyager vineyards to the aged oak in its cellar and beyond.
