The Pretenders are set to kick off their headlining Relentless Tour on August 16 at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom. Videos by American Songwriter
The tour runs parallel with The Pretenders’ new studio album, Relentless , which is set to be released on September 15. The project features the second full-length songwriting collaboration between Chrissie Hynde and James Walbourne, the first being the 2020 album Hate For Sale . The album was produced by Grammy Award-winning producer, David Wrench, and was recorded at the iconic Battery Studios in Northwest London. Another star-studded appearance on the album is composer Johnny Greenwood (Radiohead, The Smile), who both composed and played on the already-released album’s single, “I Think About You Daily.”

The announcement of both the tour and the album comes as quite the full-circle moment for the band. The recording and release of the album mark the band’s return to the Warner Music Group after their departure from the label two decades ago. Furthermore, the tour is the band’s 45th year of playing live shows since their debut in 1978.
The Pretenders will simultaneously be making appearances alongside Guns N’ Roses on their North American Stadium Tour set to begin on August 11 at Hershey Park Stadium. Additionally, the band will also be playing at the Ohana Festival as a supporting act for the Foo Fighters. In past years, the Pretenders has performed with Fleetwood Mac, Journey, Def Leppard, and Phil Collins. They’ve also made festival appearances at Glastonbury, Vilar De Mouros, and The Great Escape.

The Pretenders Announce US Headlining Tour
The post The Pretenders Announce US Headlining Tour appeared first on Consequence .
The Pretenders have unveiled special 2023 tour dates promising to bring a rare, intimate show to smaller venues across America.
Before their headlining jaunt starts, the band will kick things off in August with some dates opening for Guns N’ Roses on their 2023 world tour. Their own trek begins on August 16th at New York’s Bowery Ballroom. From there, both tours run concurrently for a little bit. The Pretenders will play a few opening gigs, return to their headline slots, and then back to opening gigs. Their final date with Guns N’ Roses will be September 9th in St. Louis, Missouri. Then, they’ll head over to Europe for a brief run of previously announced headlining gigs before wrapping up the US tour on October 6th in San Francisco. Check out their full touring schedule below.
Tickets for The Pretenders’ headlining shows go on sale Friday, July 21st at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster . Find tickets to all of their upcoming shows at StubHub , where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program. StubHub is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.
The announcement comes after the band returned this past May with news of their 12th studio album, Relentless . Since then, they’ve released two singles: “Let the Sun Come In” and “I Think About You Daily,” the latter of which features Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood. The full album is due to drop on September 1st via Rhino; pre-orders are ongoing.
In early October, The Pretenders are also set to fill a headlining slot at Eddie Vedder’s OHANA Festival , the same night Foo Fighters also have top billing. Last month, David Grohl joined the band onstage at Glastonbury with Johnny Marr.

Chrissie Hynde still has it going on. Her voice hasn’t lost pitch. She can rock the guitar and hold
Her own with all the musical greats. She’s funny. She’s honest. She is beautiful. Her music is relevant and soulful. Her band is tight. She is an inspirational iconic woman, not just holding her own in the male dominated musical world, but in life. Can’t wait to read her book!
Concert was short. About an hour and they left stage. Did two encores but I still think short. They left a lot of their best songs off, such as Mystery Achievement. They did have some highs. Chrissy’s voice was excellent. It just seemed a bit lack luster.

The Pretenders Announce US Headlining Tour
In addition to playing smaller venues across America, the band will also open on Guns N’ Roses’ stadium tour
Tickets are available via StubHub , where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program.

Singer, guitarist and chief songwriter Chrissie Hynde , meanwhile, last released her own work in 2021 with The Pretenders’ lead guitarist James Walbourne.
The record features covers of Bob Dylan songs, called ‘ Standing In The Doorway: Chrissie Hynde Sings Bob Dylan ‘.
In other news, last week, Hynde shared her thoughts on diversity within the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame , calling it “total bollocks”.
This month, Courtney Love started a conversation around inclusion in the prestigious club by calling for more female acts to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame , while highlighting that there are also “few” past inductees of Black origin.
Hynde, who was inducted into the hall with The Pretenders in 2005, then took to Facebook to share her thoughts on the topic, saying she doesn’t “even wanna be associated with” the institution.
“Other than Neil Young’s participation in the induction process, the whole thing was, and is, total bollocks,” she added. “It’s absolutely nothing to do with rock ‘n’ roll and anyone who thinks it is is a fool.”

Chrissie Hynde bringing the Pretenders to Phoenix. Here's how to get tickets
The Pretende r s will bring their summer tour to Arizona Financial Theatre in downtown Phoenix on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024.
This is the first Pretenders show in metro Phoenix since 2016, when they joined Stevie Nicks on the opening night of the 24 Karat Gold Tour at Footprint Center (then called Talking Stick Resort Arena).
Chrissie Hynde joined Nicks on stage that night for a crowd-pleasing version of Nicks’ iconic Tom Petty duet, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.”
The Pretenders tour is set to launch July 13 at Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, New Jersey, and features a handful of stadium dates as special guests of Foo Fighters.
From there, the Pretenders will embark on a nearly sold-out European tour, including shows in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Poland, France and the U.K., culminating Oct. 28 with a sold-out show at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall.

The Pretenders 2024 tour is in support of 'Relentless' album
This tour follows the release of an acclaimed new album called "Relentless," produced by David Wrench (Courtney Barnett, David Byrne) at Battery Studios in London.
“Relentless” marks the second full-length songwriting collaboration by Hynde and Pretenders guitarist James Walbourne following 2020’s “Hate for Sale.” The album includes “Losing My Sense of Taste,” “A Love” and “Let the Sun Come In."
It closes with “I Think About You Daily,” featuring composer Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, who provides the string arrangement and conducted the 12 Ensemble for the recording.
MOJO hailed the album’s “persistently brilliant songwriting … surely how Chrissie Hynde always wanted The Pretenders to sound” while Uncut praised it as “the new prime of Chrissie Hynde,” and Record Collector proclaimed it “the best Pretenders album in 20 years.”

Foo Fighters Launch 2024 Tour: Set List, Videos
Foo Fighters returned to the road with the launch of their 2024 Everything or Nothing at All tour on May 1 in Dallas.
The sold-out show took place at the Dos Equis Pavilion, with an estimated 20,000 fans in attendance.
Dave Grohl and his bandmates have a well-earned reputation for delivering long shows, and they certainly were up to the task on this night, rocking through 24 songs during their set.
READ MORE: Top 25 Foo Fighters Songs
Foo Fighters gave fans an eclectic assortment of songs during their tour opener. Yes, the massive hits were well represented, as “The Pretender,” “Times Like These,” “All My Life” and “Best of You” all got their time to shine. But the band also mixed in deeper cuts, like “Arlandria” (from 2011’s Wasting Light ) and “La Dee Da” (from 2017’s Concrete and Gold ).
Midway through the show, Grohl paid tribute to late Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell .
“Since we’re here in Dallas, I’m gonna dedicate this one to an old friend who lived around here,” the frontman declared. “His name was ‘Dimebag’ Darrell. How about that? Let’s hear it for Darrell. It’s called ‘My Hero’.”
Naturally, the evening ended with the Foo Fighters’ customary closer, “Everlong.” See the full set list and fan-shot videos from the concert below.

Foo Fighters’ 2024 Summer Plans
Foo Fighters’ initial stretch of 2024 U.S. dates will last two weeks and include stops at the New Orleans Jazz Fest, Shaky Knees Festival and Welcome to Rockville. In June, the band heads to the U.K. and Europe for performance, before returning Stateside for a longer run of dates beginning in July. Mammoth WVH and the Pretenders will each open select concerts later in the summer.
Notably, this marks the Foo Fighters first extensive North American tour with Josh Freese as part of the band. The drummer, who took over for the late Taylor Hawkins in 2023, previously joined the group for some one-off U.S. dates and a tour of Australia and New Zealand. The Dallas show featured several songs Freese hadn’t previously performed with the band, including “Bridge Burning” and “Medicine at Midnight.” The There Is Nothing Left to Lose song “Aurora” was dedicated to Hawkins.
