The apartment is comfortable. It has everything you need. The host is very accommodating. I asked for more coffee, and they provided more than enough. The water was hot enough that I was able to take a bath. It was great, thank you. I will be back. I noticed the changes that were made since the first time I stayed here.

Located in Żagań in the Lubuskie region, LEA Barn has a patio. This property offers access to a balcony, free private parking and free WiFi. On clear days, guests can head outside to enjoy the apartment's outdoor fireplace or simply kick back and relax. Ethnographic Museum in Ochla is 42 km from LEA Barn, while Lubuskie Military Museum is 44 km away. The nearest airport is Zielona Góra Airport, 87 km from the accommodation .

Very clean and well lit. The building was new and did not feel old. Owner provides a lavish gift basket. I am still thinking about the homemade cherry wine. The bathroom and kitchen had all of your needs. The furniture and linens were clean. Outdoor patio was beautiful. Wifi was available and so was private parking. Communication was great from the hosts.

Technically, a Wi-Fi router is not a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. But what it does do is allow you to take one internet connection with a tricky login situation — say, hotel Wi-Fi that asks you to input your room number every time you connect — and streamlines the process for connecting additional devices. In a nutshell, you connect to Wi-Fi via the router, which then creates a more secure network for you to connect to from other devices. Tips for Buying a Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot

Consider where and when you'll use it.

Not all portable Wi-Fi hotspots can be used everywhere. If yours is tied to a U.S.–based carrier (like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon), and you're planning on going abroad, you need to make sure you've paid for a data plan that includes international use. If you're only traveling for a short period of time, this might be the most convenient option. 

But if you're planning on traveling internationally for an extended period of time, you might want to opt for an unlocked portable Wi-Fi hotspot — that is, one that isn't tied to a specific carrier. You can then buy a data plan from a company based in your destination, which usually is a more economical decision. "SIM cards are cheap and easy to get in lots of countries worldwide, and going this route ensures you get the strongest signal possible for the lowest price," Peter Holslin, senior staff writer at internet comparison site HighSpeedInternet.com, told T+L.

The duration of your trip should also inform whether you want to purchase an as-you-go data plan (better for shorter tips) or a monthly one (better for longer trips).

Check with your phone carrier

"When you use a portable hotspot, you can choose the carrier it's connected to. So if you want to maximize your coverage, you can use one carrier for your phone and a different carrier for the hotspot," Walker said. It's often cheaper to buy a Wi-Fi hotspot to hook up to a local network while traveling versus paying for an international phone plan with your current carrier as well.

Think about voltage and battery life

For the most part, portable Wi-Fi hotspots use a relatively low amounts of power (about five to seven volts, depending on the size and strength of the device). However, you should still utilize a power converter when plugging your hotspot in during international travels. Not all outlets around the world support the same power output, so using an adapter can prevent blowing a fuse or sparking your devices. If you want a more portable Wi-Fi hotspot that doesn't need to be plugged in, be sure to check its expected battery life to know exactly how long you can use it on the go.

"Wi-Fi hotspots work similar to phones, tapping into your cellular network to provide high-speed data for use with laptops, tablets, gaming systems, etc.," Verizon spokesperson George Koroneos told T+L. "What's more? You can give access to your travel companions, so they can use your dedicated hotspot, similar to a Wi-Fi network."

Yes, it does. "Mobile hotspots connect to cellular networks to provide internet connection allowing customers to connect anywhere," Jeff Howard, AT&T's vice president of hardware and partner solutions, told T+L.

It depends on what type of portable hotspot you have and what type of plan you have. If your hotspot plan is locked to a specific carrier, you'll need to make sure your carrier has an international plan. (Spoiler alert: most do.) It might be as simple as turning your device on and letting it automatically connect to a local cell network. But if your portable hotspot requires a local SIM card to work, you'll have to pick one up at the airport or at a store and insert it into your hotspot to connect to a local cell network.

Many cell phone providers have international plan options for travelers, and you can turn most smartphones into a mobile hotspot under that plan. Then you can connect devices to your cell phone for internet services. But that's not always the best solution. "One thing to consider is carriers may limit the hotspot data amount on your phone, so you may see slower speeds at a certain point," Walker said. "You also don't have to run your cell phone battery when you use a standalone hotspot." On the other hand, portable Wi-Fi hotspots require their own data plans, which costs additional money.

Prepaid data packages vs. SIM card

To get your portable Wi-Fi device connected to the internet, you will need to purchase a prepaid data plan or local SIM card. If you plan to use your Wi-Fi hotspot for international travel, look for a device that has prepaid data plans available. Purchasing a prepaid plan prior to leaving on a trip means you can skip the hassle of locating a foreign service provider and picking up a SIM card.

If you're planning on using your hotspot primarily in the U.S. and North America, purchasing a SIM card from a major carrier like AT&T or T-Mobile will get you the best network coverage. I recommend this option for campers , hikers , or van-lifers that require an internet connection in remote locations.

Supported networks and frequencies

The frequencies used to transmit data vary depending on the region or country you're in and the carrier you're on. You need to keep an eye out for which frequencies your hotspot will support.

The most common networks and their frequencies include:

• 2G/3G : The second- and third-generation of wireless technology. These networks run on either GSM (Global System for Mobiles) or CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) frequencies. GSM is more widely used and better for travelers.
• 4G or LTE : This network is currently the global standard and offers the fastest connection speeds. 4G transmits through LTE frequencies, and only uses GSM or CDMA as a fallback when there is no LTE connection available.
• 5G: The fifth-generation mobile network technology provides increased reliability, speed, and network capacity, but global coverage is currently only at 25 percent . Outside of major cities, 4G LTE and 3G networks are the most widely available.

Luckily, device makers don’t want to build a different device for every frequency, so most Wi-Fi hotspots are compatible with 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE. Keep in mind that your hotspot will only work in areas where there is cellular coverage , no matter the frequency. Oftentimes, remote locations will not have a signal since there aren't any nearby cellular towers or the closest one can't reach it.

Your seatbelt may be secure, but is your internet access?

While connecting to free WiFi 30,000 feet in the air seems safe and easy — especially since everyone is doing it — travelers should be thinking about how secure their connection really is and start taking VPNs and other security risks into consideration.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) recently charged a man with establishing “fake free WiFi access points, which mimicked legitimate networks, to capture personal data from unsuspecting victims who mistakenly connected to them.”

The 42-year-old man had these “evil twin” WiFi networks on an airplane — while it was mid-flight.

When people on the plane tried to connect to the plane WiFi, “they were taken to a fake webpage requiring them to sign in using their email or social media logins. Those details were then allegedly saved to the man’s devices,” according to AFP.

“The email and password details harvested could be used to access more personal information, including a victim’s online communications, stored images and videos or bank details.”

An “evil twin” attack is when someone creates a hotspot with a name that will trick users to connecting to it, such as the name of a coffee shop, hotel or airline.

There are some easy ways to stay safe from this kind of cyberattack, and being mindful and aware is the key.

“To connect to a free WiFi network, you shouldn’t have to enter any personal details– such as logging in through an email or social media account,” AFP Western Command Cybercrime Detective Inspector Andrea Coleman said in a statement.

“If you do want to use public WiFi hotspots, install a reputable virtual private network (VPN) on your devices to encrypt and secure your data when using the internet,” she continued. “When using a public network, disable file sharing, don’t do anything sensitive — such as banking — while connected to it and once you finish using it, change your device settings to ‘forget network.’”

“We also recommend turning off the WiFi on your phone or other electronic devices before going out in public, to prevent your device from automatically connecting to a hotspot.”

On the side of the router there is a sliding Mode switch to set the device in Router/Hotspot/AP/RE modes so that the WR1502X can work as a traditional router, piggyback on an existing network or as a simple access point or range expander. There is also a WPS button next to the Mode switch for automatically adding devices to the network.

This pocket router has advanced support for OpenVPN and WireGuard for a secure and private network, even when connected to a public Wi-Fi hotspot such as a coffee shop. This $30 wireless charger got rid of my bedside cable clutter

I’m not a huge fan of wireless chargers. They tend to be slower and bulkier than your typical wall chargers, plus they can’t charge things like my over-ear headphones or a laptop . That’s why I have a ton of USB-C cables and Anker wall chargers at my desk.

A bit of cable clutter does not bother me when I am working — I am a tech reporter, I usually need lots of cables and chargers to do my job. But my bedside is a different story. I’ve been using an Anker charger and two charging cables in my bedside outlet for years. It does the job well, but having two long cables next to my bed isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing thing in the world.

Enter: wireless charging for your bedside.

What is the Hicober 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station?

Hicober 3-in-1 wireless charging station.

The Hicober wireless charger is designed for Apple devices, with charging pads for your iPhone, Apple Watch and earbuds. It is largely made of plastic and rubber, but the phone charging pad is magnetized and keeps your phone from sliding out of place.

It delivers up to 10W of power for iPhone, 2.5W for an Apple Watch and 3W for a pair of compatible wireless earbuds. The charging pad has a USB-C port on the top that must be plugged into a wall charger to supply power.

How i use the hicober 3-in-1 wireless charging station, to charge three devices with one cable.

The main reason I wanted to try this charging station was to reduce the amount of cables near my bedside. This charging station turned three charging cables into one. If you’re like me and you like to have your phone, smartwatch and wireless earbuds by your bed, this charger seriously reduces cable clutter.

To travel with

There’s a good reason this charging station is one of the best travel accessories on Amazon — it is small, slim and compact. It can also fold in on itself, stacking like three little pancakes, making it compact enough to fit into your weekender bag or luggage .

You can also fold it in such a way that it makes a triangle, turning into a makeshift phone stand in a pinch (though I didn’t use this feature very much).

Things to note

Not for fast charging.

Wireless chargers typically don’t charge as fast as wall chargers, and the Hicober is no exception. The bottom of the charging station states plainly that it delivers up to 10W for phones, 2.5W for Apple Watch and 3W for earbuds. None of these are the maximum power delivery available to each device — the iPhone 15 for example can take up to 20W, so you could charge any of them faster with separate dedicated chargers. This slightly slower speed is not an issue for overnight bedside use, though.

The bottom line

This wireless charger is an exercise in minimalism: it gets rid of clutter from my bedside and in my travel bag. It won’t do you any good if you need to charge larger items like tablets , over-ear headphones or laptops, you’ll need a charging block for those devices. But outside of those exceptions, this is a low-cost charger that made my bedside space more comfortable.

Acceptable devices.

No unauthorized devices are to be connected into the network at any time. Any device other than a personal computer, phone, tablet or gaming system shall be considered an unauthorized device. This network is designed, configured and optimized to use our wireless routers. When a third-party router is connected, this can cause technical issues on the network, impacting as many as 200 users at a time. Internet accounts support 1 simultaneous login.

Acceptable Use Policy

All customers and users of this service agree to and must comply with our Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), and your use of any Services, website or software provided, constitutes your agreement to abide by the terms of this AUP. This AUP is intended to improve the use of the Services by preventing unacceptable uses. Our service does not exercise editorial control or review over the content of the Services, or other material created or accessible over or through the Services. However, we may remove, block, filter, or restrict by any other means any materials that, in our sole discretion, may be illegal, may subject us to liability or may violate this AUP. We reserve the right to block any device connected to the network that is knowingly or unknowingly transmitting software viruses, worms, or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software, hardware or telecommunications equipment

Intentionally or unintentionally violate any applicable local, state, national or international law, including, but not limited to, regulations promulgated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, any rules of any national or other securities exchange, including, without limitation, the New York Stock Exchange, the American Stock Exchange or the NASDAQ, and any regulations having the force of law

"stalk" or otherwise harass another; or collect or store, or attempt to collect or store, personal data about third parties without their knowledge or consent

Resell the Services without our written authorization and expressed written consent

Payment Obligations

You must (i) provide accurate and complete billing information including legal name, address, telephone number, and credit card/billing information, and (ii) report all changes to this information within 30 days of the change. You are responsible for any charges to your account. If you have questions regarding charges to an account, you should contact our Customer Service Department, using the contact-us (phone and support form) links provided on our page. All charges are considered valid unless disputed in writing within 15 days of the charged date. Adjustments may not be made for charges that are more than 15 days old.

Your Username and Password Security

Upon registration, you will receive a username, password, and/or an account identification number. You are the only authorized user of your account. You agree, at your expense, to defend and hold us harmless, including all of our affiliates, officers, directors and employees from and against any and all costs, damages and reasonable attorneys' fees resulting from any claim that your use of the Services injured or otherwise violated any right of any third party or violates any law.

Copyrights and Trademarks

All content included on the Services, including but not limited to, text, graphics, logos, buttons, icons, images and software, is the property of us, our licensors or partners and is protected by U.S. and international copyright and trademark laws. Reproduction, duplication, modification, distribution, transmission, replication, display or performance of the content on the Services without the expressed written consent from the Services' content, copyright and trademark owners is strictly prohibited.

Termination

Without prior notice, we may terminate The Agreement or your use of the Services, if we, in our sole discretion, believe you have violated The Agreement or any of the policies applicable to customers, or if you fail to pay any charges when due. We may provide termination notice to you by email.

TravelWifi conducts every aspect of its business operations in the presence of appropriate rigorous; regular administrative oversight in accordance with applicable US Federal contracting guidelines and enjoys close supervision of US military and civilian authorities at each base of operations.

Any personal information provided by visitors to this website is strictly used for technical support, product/service returns/refunds purposes only. TravelWifi never divulges, sells or leases any personal information or any aggregate data to any outside party.

TravelWifi is a certified Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliant provider, strictly adheres to the PCI Data Security Standard and never keeps or stores any credit card or personal address information on its servers.

TravelWifi will never request credit card information or other confidential information. If you receive an email that appears to be from The Exchange asking for credit card information or other confidential information, do not respond and report it immediately.

Shipping & Delivery Policy

TravelWifi services become available immediately after an authorized viewer has successfully completed the purchase transaction. Viewing instructions are provided to the purchaser to view the services through an auto-generated email sent to the registered TravelWifi account holder’s email address at time of registration. An auto-generated email is also sent to the registered TravelWifi account holder’s email address at time of purchase.
