With all the anticipation of the upcoming Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling coming out in 2023, Barbiecore is having a moment. That means you have time to start saving up for a a trendy Barbiecore-inspired vacation in the future. The first step is, of course, picking out where to go. There are Barbiecore destinations along the West Coast in the U.S. as well as overseas in London and Japan. It’s just a matter of whether or not you’re ready to break out your passport for a pink dream vacay. For a more budget-friendly getaway, you and your besties could plan a weekend away to a hot pink Palm Springs resort or drive along the PCH seeing Barbiecore destinations at each stop. For something more epic to go with your wanderlust, scratch the pink sand beaches in the Bahamas off your to-do list.

A weekend in Palm Springs with the Midge to your Barbie should be on everyone’s list. And if Barbiecore is the aesthetic you’re trying to achieve on your vacay, you must stay at the Trixie Motel . This brand-new motel designed by the most Barbiecore drag queen ever, Trixie Mattel, is hot pink from head to toe. You’ll truly feel like you’re staying in Barbie’s Dreamhouse. While each room is Insta-worthy, the Queen of Hearts and Pink Flamingo Suite have the most Barbiecore vibes to them.

London, England

Miami, Florida

Miami is already known for being one of the most colorful cities in the U.S., so it’s a no-brainer that it’s also a Barbiecore travel destination for anyone thinking pink. El Cortez Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, Nevada This is the longest-running hotel & casino in Sin City, and bills itself to be the embodiment of Las Vegas. The property is home to a secret penthouse suite of the former owner, Jackie Gaughan, and his wife, Bertie (like Barbie) it is the ultimate Barbie-inspired stay. Located on the 15th floor, the pale pink '80s-style room has a big following with visitors and celebrities. Ellie Goulding used the room for her " On My Mind " video and Bad Bunny was photographed in the suite for a Billboard cover shoot .

The Beverly Hills Hotel Beverly Hills, California This five-star, five-diamond hotel has been a home away from home for celebrities since its opening in 1912. Having been home to stars like Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor, the space now not only looks like a Barbie Dreamhouse, but embodies the fantasy of it as well. The hotel offers 210 guest rooms and suites, including the 23 famous bungalows. This place was Barbiecore before Barbie even existed.

Trixie Motel Palm Springs, California It truly doesn’t get more Barbiecore than Trixie Motel , from iconic drag icon Trixie Mattel. Brian Firkus, a.k.a. Trixie, and partner David Silver have created a space so thoroughly fun and glamorous, with themed rooms like Malibu Barbara and Atomic Bombshell, and an exterior so candy pink the place almost doesn’t seem real. On top of the stay, you can also purchase Trixie Motel merchandise , which puts the cherry on top of any Barbiecore getaway.

Barbie Dreamhouse Pool Scotts Valley, California Anyone looking for a staycation or a daytrip can check out Swimply's Barbie Dreamhouse Pool, which is available to book for days and hours at a time. If you saw Dua Lipa's Barbie Mermaid and now you want to play mermaids in a pool all summer, this booking will help you bring the fantasy to life. Unfortunately, Dua Lipa is not included in the experience. 

La Casita Rosa Dripping Springs, Texas This pink house took the color assignment very seriously. There are pink knives. Pink candles, pink furniture, a pink Keurig. This place is definitely designed for big groups, with the main bedroom holding two queen beds and the second bedroom holding four. All in, the place is big enough to fit 12 of your favorite dolls.

East Austin Hotel Austin, Texas Do you remember the Barbie Camper? It was Barbie and Stacey’s hippie-era home, and while there was no shortage of pink, there was also the kind of nebulous motifs that immediately bring the 1970s to mind. This bright hotel is just like that, and it is right in the middle of Austin. The hotel features a poolside bar and rooftop terrace. Just like at summer camp, all the bathrooms at this place are shared. But what they lack in privacy they make up for in color.

Hotel ZaZa Dallas Dallas, Texas This summer for a week in July 15-23 (the Barbie movie premiere week), Hotel ZaZa Dallas will transform its pool deck into a Barbie summer vacation experience. There will be specialty cocktails with Malibu Rum, Absolut Vodka, and Hot Pink Cosmos. A life-size Barbie Box and poolside photo booth will be available to memorialize the experience. There will also be a Barbie package that will feature even more Barbie fun, available to book through the hotel.

Esme Miami Beach, Florida Esme is the Miami hotel that pairs pink and prestige. Newly opened in Miami Beach, this boutique hotel is as elegant as it is colorful. All of the rooms are appointed in rich shades of green, pink, and a slew of other jewel tones. The rooftop pool is covered in delicate and poppy touches of pink, and the onsite bar adds to the feeling of classic glamor.

The Don CeSar St. Petersburg, Florida If it were a competition on which hotel was most similar to the all time great 1990 Barbie Dream House , the Don CeSar would definitely win. This bright, pink hotel sits right on the beach in St. Petersburg, with a bubblegum pink exterior complete white crisp white finishes. The hotel offers spa services, many beach activities, and two onsite restaurants and bars.

Caribe Royale Orlando Orlando, Florida This hotel has a flamingo pink exterior and it promises to be a luxurious resort perfectly suited for fans of Barbiecore looking for a "Magic Dream House" escape. There are one-bedroom suites and two-bedroom villas, an onsite Island Spa, a pool featuring a 75-foot waterslide, and shuttle access to Walt Disney World Resort (in case you want to trade in your Barbie cosplay for some time as a princess).

Graduate Nashville Nashville, Tennessee Offering a special Dolly Parton-themed room, it doesn't get much more fun and pink than the Graduate Nashville. The entire hotel is dedicated to fun, buzzy design and eclectic art, and the Dolly Suite ups the ante: you've got neon lights, pink patterned wallpaper, velvet bedding, and fringe lampshades. The Vinoy Resort & Golf Club, Autograph Collection St. Petersburg, Florida The property is a historic institution that has been serving as a luxury getaway since back in the 1920s. The 362-room waterfront property has a soft pink exterior, delicate crown molding, looking so much like a Barbie castle. The hotel has two pools and five restaurants, in the heart of St. Petersburg. The kind of place to rock a large brim hat, white sunnies, and black and white striped swimsuit and feel exactly like 1959 Swimsuit Barbie.  

Sea No Evil Beach House Emerald Isle, North Carolina Set up right on the beach, this vacation home is perfect for big families. With a cotton candy pink exterior, six bedrooms, a hot tub, and all of the creature comforts you could possibly need. This is the upper middle class bliss every career Barbie was hustling to achieve. 

Saybrook Point Resort & Marina Old Saybrook, Connecticut The property's Three Story Guesthouse has a perfectly pink exterior and is big enough to fit aloof your closest and even less close friends. The guesthouse accommodates up to 16 people and has multiple wrap-around porches, lush private gardens, and richly decorated interiors. This is the perfect place for those of you hoping to live out your Yacht Barbie fantasies.

Moxy NYC Times Square New York, New York This midtown hotel features a rooftop bar and lounge that is described as an “urban amusement park” concept with ultra photogenic cocktails, 360-rooftop views, and ample pink photo moments. Right now, the hotel's Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge is featuring a summer pop-up experience called Pink Bunny Beach, decked out with pink lifeguard chairs and beach balls, open until September. Inns of Aurora Resort & Spa Aurora, New York The Inns of Aurora Resort & Spa is made up of five differently decorated boutique inns along the shore of Cayuga Lake. Request to stay in the Rowland House room 7, which is draped floor to ceiling in pink. The luxurious property promises to offer a decadent vacation. Other rooms offer floor-to-ceiling checkerboard wallpaper and over-the-top fireplaces. New York Marriott Marquis New York, New York The New York Marriott Marquis teamed up with the Britney Spears' inspired broadway show Once Upon a One More Time Broadway Show,  to deliver this ultra pink Y2K styled room, featuring references to famous Britney songs and '90s inspired decor. For anyone who grew up in the late '90s, this room will make you feel like you've been brought back to a time when the Britney Spears Barbie doll was just arriving on shelves. The room will only be available for a limited time , and sits in the heart of Times Square. 

In the Midwest

Pink Castle Bae-cation Hudson, Wisconsin This place is, like, the pinkest. There are zebra print carpeted stairs, crushed pink velvet wallpaper, a permanently installed pole, glittery pink walls in the kitchen, a pool that can be filled up with all of your favorite floats, pink landscaping, and there's even a pink piano. If I were allowed to build and design my own house at eight years old, this is exactly what it would look like. And as an adult? I'd love to pamper my inner child here.

International

Villa Fugata Flamingo Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica For starters, this villa is located on a beach called Flamingo—so it's already fitting our aesthetic aspirations with the name alone. The villa itself is perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and there are floor-to-ceiling windows providing a stunning view of the idyllic landscape. The kitchen comes with professional cooking gear, so you'll be able to combine your Beach and Chef Barbie personas at the same time.

Hilton Bogota Corferias Bogota, Colombia For the next year, Hilton Bogota Coferias will be offering an ultra Barbie-themed hotel room that promises to "to celebrate the innovation, fantasy and fun that Barbie personifies," according to Hilton. The room is on the 13th floor of the hotel, with views of the city, 1990s Barbie inspired decor, and will also include some Barbie themed activities at the hotel. 

The Pink Palm Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas Newly opened in March 2023, this is a luxury boutique property. A pink neon sign welcomes guests at reception and the color can be found on the outdoor lounge seating, to terrazzo tile on the terrace. The rooftop bar area has views out to the emerald waters surrounding St. Thomas. While the rooms themselves aren't wall-to-wall pink, I do think Barbie would approve of the palm print wallpaper and velvet bed frames.

Cobblers Cove Speightstown, Barbados Considered to be one of the Caribbean’s finest and family-owned hotels, Cobblers Cove has received much acclaim and is widely loved. It has a quarter mile of white sand beach in a quiet cove, and the boutique hotel is encompassed by a coral stone wall and three acres of lush tropical gardens. New this year, Cobblers Cove has partnered with the creators of the world's finest pool floats, Oliver James Lilos, to design an exclusive and completely bespoke collection of chic floats. The pink pool floats perfectly complement the pink umbrellas and sun chairs.

Mount Nelson Cape Town, South Africa This is where Bridgertoncore and Barbiecore meet, in my humble opinion. The decadent decor is so fine, it feels like the setting for a deeply passionate profession of love. The pastel-pink exterior is paired with kitschy china and pop art walls. It's where the modern, trendy, totally well traveled Barbie would be staying for a break from her time as the ultimate multi-hyphenate.

Hotel de Cataratas Iguazu National Park, Brazil Iguazu National Park is home to some of the most beautiful and expansive waterfalls in the entire world. Hotel de Cataratas is the only hotel in the Brazilian side of the national park (the park connects Uruguay, Argentina, and Brazil), and is resplendent with soft pink walls, whimsical murals, and sun-drenched grounds.

The ultimate Barbiecore packing list for you and your Ken(s)

Okay, you've made your very Barbie hotel booking, now it's time to pack. To complete the experience, your own gear should probably be as Barbiecore as your accommodations. Now, for the wardrobe. Picking out Barbie clothes was my favorite part of playing with dolls as a child, and at one point I even learned how to sew so I could make the exact outfit I had in my visions. Fortunately, we're not dependent on my sewing skills for Barbie-inspired fits this summer. Consider this boat neck dress from Gobi if you're looking for that classic retro Barbie look. For those of you feeling more Ken, these button-up shirts in a teal striped pattern or zebra floral print are perfect for lounging at the bar, thinking about Barbie.

Want to more clearly convey the Barbiecore-ness of your vacation? Mattel actually has a whole line of Barbie merch. Personally coveting this Barbiecore baseball hat , which has a complementing Ken option too . There's also shirts and '80s-inspired fits —these are honestly great options for your Barbiecore vacation or attending the opening night screening of Greta's film.

G reta Gerwig’s  Barbie  hits the big screen in the UK this Friday, 21 July, and if there’s one thing Barbie loves more than  fashion  and philanthropy it’s pink – sorry Ken.

So much so, that the over-the-top Barbieland set caused a  “worldwide” shortage  of fluorescent pink paint, while on-set pink days were mandated by Barbie actor  Margot Robbie .

Best for: Malibu Barbie (1971)

The OG hotspot for beach-loving Barbies ,  Malibu’s miles of white sands, boutique shops, wild waves and boardwalks are also a firm favourite with Barbie’s boyfriend Ken – he even calls it his “Kendom”.

Jaipur, India’s Rajasthan state’s capital, is often called “The Pink City” for its blush buildings, originally painted the pink-tone in 1876 to welcome Prince Albert – Queen Victoria’s husband – to the city.

In Calpe,  Spain , an avant-garde, postmodern apartment complex designed by Ricardo Bofill stands tall with vibrant pink walls – a haven for avid Instagrammers after a picture-perfect pink backdrop for selfies with their Barbie or Ken.

La Muralla Roja  apartment offers an off-the-beaten-track stay within a blush exterior in what we imagine could be Barbie’s Spanish holiday home or art project. The ideal accommodation for architecture lovers, it offers a pool with views over the stylish building complex.

Galway, Ireland

Best for: festival barbie (2017).

What’s Barbieland without a party?  Galway , with its lively music scene, vibrant culture and St Patrick’s Day parades is a surprising hub of excitement that may well emulate a Barbieland holiday with the right use of your imagination.

Barbiecore travel: Here are the pinkest destinations in Europe to visit this summer

Here are some of the best pink sights around Europe.

Travellers, say hello to a hot pink summer.

In anticipation of the Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, there’s a new aesthetic taking over fashion, interior design and even travel.

Barbiecore, as the style is known, is a homage to the Mattel fashion doll, in particular to her favourite colour.

If you want to be on trend this season, just make sure your destination is coloured somewhere between fuchsia and coral.

If you need a little inspiration, here are some of the best pink sights around Europe, compiled by travel planning site Omio.

Riomaggiore, Italy, for a salmon-hued hamlet

Riomaggiore is one of the celebrated colourful villages of the Cinque Terre. A jumble of houses, many painted in salmon and rose, spill down the cliffside towards a little harbour.

Arriving from the city of La Spezia, Riomaggiore is the first of the five hamlets. It is connected to the other vibrant villages by a clifftop walking path with spectacular views.

Just be warned, the Cinque Terre can often be extremely overcrowded in summer so try to book your visit towards the end of the season when things are quietening down.

Wi-Ki Woo Hotel, Ibiza, for a Barbie party

If you can’t make it all the way to Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse, there’s a hot pink hotel in Ibiza that’s the stuff of plastic-fantastic dreams.

Wi-Ki Woo Hotel in San Antonio is a candy-coloured extravaganza. Expect heart-shaped pool floaties, hot pink sun loungers, disco balls and jazzy fuchsia lighting in the evening.

The hotel is adults-only. There’s a DJ set every evening and at midnight the “mirrored wardrobe” opens to reveal the decadent Wi-gly-Woo club.

Elafonissi, Crete, for blush-coloured sands

Just like wine, rosé sand always feels a little more special than white. One of the most famous pink beaches in the world is Elafonissi in Crete, Greece’s biggest island.

The vibrancy of the blush-coloured sand is dependent on the tides, the season and the light, and is only seen down by the water’s edge.

If you time you visit right, it’s a mesmerising sight. But even if you miss the pink sands, there’s still crystalline water and curious rock formations to enjoy.

Green citadel, Germany, for an artist’s vision in pink

Magdeburg’s Green Citadel is a bit of a misnomer as the artist designed complex is actually a warm shade of pink.

The quirky, playful building houses shops, restaurants, a kindergarten and a hotel and was built in just two years.

It was envisioned by artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser as an “oasis for humanity and nature in a sea of rational houses.”

Rua Nova do Carvalho, Portugal, for a street of pink

A Barbiecore travel guide wouldn’t be complete without a mention of the world’s most famous pink road.

Officially named Rua Nova do Carvalho but usually referred to as “Pink Street”, this fuchsia road in the Cais do Sodré district was once Lisbon’s red light district.

Now, it’s the centre of the city’s nightlife with buzzing bars and restaurants and sometimes hosts open air art exhibitions.

The city of Charleston embodies Barbiecore all its own, with palm tree-lined streets and plenty of blush pink houses. Tucked inside Hotel Bennett is a stunning Champagne bar, Camellias , with pink marble tables, plush pink bar stools, and a dazzling chandelier towering over it all.

Hilton Bogotá Corferias | Bogotá, Colombia

The Hilton Bogota Corferias in Bogotá is home to one of the ultimate Barbie experiences. They debuted a 1990s-inspired suite, which features with graphics of Barbie and her friends, a dressing vanity, robes, slippers, and classic mantras written throughout the room. Add to the experience by booking a Sunset Pink-nic with Barbie-inspired snacks, taking a fashion and makeup masterclass, or having an all-pink dining experience.

Don CeSar | St. Pete Beach, Florida

Since 1928, the Don CeSar in St. Pete Beach, Florida, has been called The Pink Palace. This self-proclaimed real-life Dreamhouse has an onsite pool, beach access, and no shortage of pink and palm trees both inside and out.

Drusie & Darr | Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville’s Hermitage Hotel would earn Barbie’s approval in more than one way: not only was the hotel a major gathering space during the suffrage movement, but its onsite restaurant, Drusie and Darr, is dazzling all the way from its menu to its marble and mother of pearl detailing. The Barbiecore doesn’t stop there, however, a trip to the all-pink restroom is a must.

Barbie Beach | Turin, Georgia

With a name like Barbie Beach , a visit to this roadside attraction is a must for an odd Barbie-inspired experience. Located just outside of Atlanta in a small town called Turin, Barbie Beach is a 6-foot-by-4-foot plot of sand featuring a collection of Barbie and Ken dolls (often unclothed) arranged based on seasons or current events like: the Olympics, NCAA finals, a Royal Wedding.

The Curtis Hotel | Denver, Colorado

Denver’s hyper-themed hotel, The Curtis , has 13 different pop culture rooms ranging from comic books to scary movies. Barbie fans will love the themed “Big Hair Culture” room with a mural showcasing Barbie through the decades, with added touches like a salon chair and plenty of pink accents.

The Beverly Hills Hotel | Beverly Hills, California

The west coast’s Pink Palace is Barbiecore come to life. The all-pink Beverly Hills Hotel is as iconic as Barbie herself, with a blush exterior, coral Cabana Cafe terrace, pink poolside cabanas, and banana leaf wallpaper. A few days ago, aerial shots of a conspicuously hot pink mansion in the Malibu hills began appearing on Twitter . Barbie 's marketing campaign had been, heretofore, lavish to say the least, and speculation that an entire property had been brought into the fold was soon confirmed with the news that a Malibu DreamHouse would soon be listed on Airbnb . The conceit is that Ken, not Barbie, is hosting the property, and amenities include access to Ken's beach wardrobe. An outdoor disco dance floor, pool, and a take-home gift of yellow-and-pink Impala roller blades (more on those momentarily) are also included.

They don’t call it the “Pink Palace” for nothing—lounge by the pool in a pink-and-white striped cabana, dine on the coral terrace, and generally indulge in your most glamorous fantasies at the storied spot.

Move like Barbie

Even if you don't manage to score the Airbnb and, as a result, don't go home with a free pair of the Impala skate equipment featured in the film, you can still get your feet into a pair. When Barbie embarks on her road trip, the only thing in her backseat, it turns out, is Ken. No luggage. As the film’s producers told Architectural Digest , Barbie and her wardrobe are not necessarily constrained by the material laws of object permanence. This is not the case for the rest of us—your clothes need to be packed if you want them to come with you. Were Barbie to pack a suitcase, what suitcase would that be? Perhaps a number or two from the new Béis x Barbie The Movie luggage collection, which drops July 19 in tandem with the movie's release? On the market are hot pink weekender bags, hot pink hard-shell rollers, and hot pink cosmetic cases, just to name a few.

SteamLine has some stunning options that make me think of the sewing boxes in which my own sister stored her Barbies back in the day, the best being some pink-and-white striped leather pieces reminiscent of Barbie’s glorious gingham. If you want to step outside pink—as Barbie very much does!—the brand also has a canary yellow colorway that’s just as chipper.

While I’ve been a proud, pink-wearing Barbie girl for most of my life, I can relate to Barbie’s decision to embrace comfort. I’m also a mom in my 40s and a travel writer who does a lot of walking and exploring. I love a pink pump as much as the next girl, but I’ve learned to put function before fashion in my day-to-day life, and my feet have thanked me for it.

I bought one lone pair of Birkenstock sandals (a brown pair like Barbie’s, actually) several years ago but have to admit they remained on my shoe rack the majority of the time. I’d occasionally wear them with linen pants or jeans, but never dreamed of wearing them with shorts, skirts, and dresses. But the older I got, the more I found myself turning to my trusty Birkenstocks whenever I knew I needed to go easy on my feet.

Slowly, the comfortable sandals , which have molded to my foot perfectly, became my go-to shoe. Since then, I’ve ordered additional leather pairs, and a few rubber beach sandal styles as well. I’ve packed away my flimsy flip-flops and now find myself daily reaching for a pair of Birkenstocks, just like Barbie. Appreciative of the comfort and support Birkenstocks offer my feet, I wear them with everything, from denim shorts to summer dresses, and have even convinced my teenage daughter to try a pair herself. (She loves them.)

The ‘Barbiecore’ Aesthetic Is Here to Stay for a While

We're all just barbiecore girls, in a barbiecore world.

A style icon since the ’50s, Barbie has been setting trends with her pink aesthetic for multiple generations. Today, she’s still at the forefront of what’s cool as the “Barbiecore” aesthetic infiltrates pop culture. First, the hot pink color associated with the Barbie doll first popped up at Valentino’s Pink PP Collection, then came the first look of Margot Robbie channeling Barbie in the 2023 live-action film. Now, the doll’s influence is jumping into our favorite A-lister’s wardrobes. Today’s hottest style icons, including Rosalia and Kim Kardashian , have been rocking the signature pink Barbie doll look. 

The aesthetic, which has 6.9 million views on TikTok , is the latest core trend that is making the rounds. Earlier this week, Kardashian posed like a real life Barbie in a series of Instagram pics taken by her 8-year-old daughter, North. She wore a head-to-toe hot pink Balenciaga look that  even Barbie herself would be envious of.  Lounging in her bed and against a matching pink curtain, Kardashian sported a cropped pink hoodie and curve-hugging pantaboots paired with a sparkly top-handle bag.

A few days earlier, Rosalía embodied Babiecore while on vacation with her beau,   Puerto Rican singer and rapper Rauw. The singer shared a few snaps of herself in a pink bikini and captured pics getting her nails painted by Rauw, opting for Barbie’s go-to favorite shade.

Reality Check: How To Do The Jelly Shoes Trend Without Looking Like A Tween

Everyone’s favourite childhood footwear has had a designer glow-up.

Welcome to Reality Check: a new regular franchise from the ELLE fashion editors that asks: how well do the season's biggest trends really work in the wild? This week, everyone's childhood-favourite summer shoe has had a designer glow-up.

Given recent world events and the increasingly stressful demands of modern life, it’s little wonder that nostalgia is high on the agenda – sartorially speaking in particular. Fashion designers have been throwing it back to memories of ‘the good old days’ when formulating their collections: think back to Moschino ’s SS23 show, for example, that was inspired entirely by Jeremy Scott’s love of pool inflatables, or JW Anderson ’s joy-bringing arcade-themed collection – not to mention last year’s obsession with all things Barbiecore .

More recently, we’ve also seen the revival of babydoll silhouettes, colourful cardigans , Mary-Janes, cutesy bows (Simone Rocha, of course) and bright red tights – while the likes of Coach, Miu Miu, Fendi and Anya Hindmarch have taken us right back to our school days by covering their cult handbags with kitsch charms, stickers and key-rings aplenty.

But the cult childhood item that’s got the fashion folks most in a flutter this season is even more of a throwback: the humble jelly sandal. Yes, really – and like all good things, it’s all thanks to The Row . The brand best-known for its ‘Quiet Luxury’ aesthetic sent models down the runway of its SS24 show in a series of laidback-luxe tailored ensembles that, to everyone’s surprise, were paired with the Olsens’ grown-up take on the jelly sandals of yore.

Sleek, brightly coloured, suitably squishy and featuring a chic caged design, the Mara Flats are the perfect combination of childhood nostalgia and modern elegance – hence why they sold out within hours of dropping online, despite retailing at a cool £860. Now, due to popular demand, they're finally back in stock and already flying off the shelves again; the fact that Jennifer Lawrence was spotted in a red pair earlier this week serving only to heighten the frenzy surrounding them.

But The Row's jelly sandal isn't the only one having a moment right now. Depop has reported an increase of 105 per cent in searches for jelly shoes on its platform since January, and it's the same story at Net-A-Porter . 'Our customers have an appetite for nostalgic styles this summer, drawing inspiration from The Row's newest collection,' explains NAP's Market Director, Libby Page. 'In the last month we've seen searches for jelly shoes soar by 267%.'

Aquazzura's Almost Bare crystal-embellished PVC sandals have been a big hit on the site in particular – something which did not come as a surprise to the brand's founder, Edgardo Osorio. 'Nude sandals are one of my obsessions,' he says. 'I find the almost-naked effect very sensual and extremely feminine. The transparent jelly version is our most popular, and it's also the most fun. Pair them with a white dress or a colourful swimsuit to instantly add a joyful touch on a breezy summer's day.'

Ancient Greek Sandals has also released its own take on the plastic-fantastic footwear, albeit at a more accessible price point. 'The Iro ballerina has been the hit of the season – we've sold more than 4,000 pairs since launching them in May,' the brand's co-founder and designer Christina Martini tells ELLE UK . 'They're definitely having a moment right now, but I see jelly shoes as a perennial summer favourite. They're practical and comfortable, durable, waterproof and easy to clean, making them perfect for a season spent between the beach and city.'

But now for the all-important question: how does the trend translate IRL? Simply follow in the jelly-clad footsteps of the many street style stars and fashion insiders who have introduced the humble jelly into their summer wardrobes already. They all go by one simple rule: for a look that’s on the right side of chic rather than the wrong side of child-like, keep the rest of your outfit strictly grown-up.

Head-to-toe white has proven to be a winning combination: Jennifer Lawrence contrasted her red Maras with an all-white off-duty look of loose trousers and a matching unbuttoned shirt, while fashion blogger Arielle Charnas followed the same formula to showcase her light blue Ancient Greeks.

Or, of course, you could do the natural thing and simply copy the impeccable styling from The Row's show – if only for inspiration, before shopping similarly low-key luxe looks from the rather less extortionate COS ...
