Ferries and hydrofoils to Capri depart from Molo Cassone , located at the port of Amalfi. You can easily walk to the port from the city center.

Can I travel on the ferry from Amalfi to Capri with a car?

You cannot bring your car on the ferries and hydrofoils to Capri. Instead, you can leave your vehicle in a parking lot right before you depart for Capri. 

Reminder : from Easter until the beginning of November, the circulation of cars, motorcycles and mopeds in Capri is prohibited for non-residents .

Ferry luggage

The companies that operate on the Amalfi - Capri ferry route have different policies for luggage:

• NLG allows passengers to carry 1 piece of luggage with a maximum size of 50x30x15 cm and a maximum weight of 5 kg .
• Positano Jet considers trolleys and all types of suitcases to be luggage, regardless of weight and size, with an additional fee of €2 . Handbags and backpacks are allowed free of charge.
• On the ferries of Alilauro , each passenger is entitled to a single piece of luggage with maximum dimensions of 50x35x20 cm and a weight not exceeding 9 kg .

Given the short duration of the Amalfi - Capri route, there are no cabins on the ferries and hydrofoils. Onboard seating is included in the ticket price, alternatively.

Pet travel 

You can travel with your pet on the boat from Amalfi to Capri. In order to be allowed on board, all pets should hold a ticket . Smaller animals must be kept in special carriers, while large-sized animals must be equipped with a muzzle and a leash.

We recommend booking at least 12 hours in advance for a day out. This gives us, as a provider, a chance to perpare for your desired tour and make sure you get the best experience possible and in most cases guarantees availability for one of our boats.

What if the sea is rough on the day?

We all know that the weather can be quite unpredictable, if the sea is rough on the day of your tour, we will either postpone to the next calm day or offer a full refund.

What is the cancellation policy?

Our cancellation policy requires that customers provide at least 12 hours notice of their intention to cancel a reservation. Customers who provide less than 12 hours notice will lose their deposit. Customers who provide 12 hours or more notice of their cancellation will receive a full refund of their deposit.

What's the difference between a private and shared tour.

Private tours include exclusive use of a boat with a skipper, so there are no other passengers besides you and your group. The maximum number of passengers depends upon the type of boat you book and ranges from a minimum of six to a maximum of 12. Private tours include a general itinerary with lots of flexibility for stops for swimming and snorkeling, docking to spend free time on land exploring local sights and shopping at boutiques, or stopping for lunch. Group tours have a set itinerary and you share the boat with other passengers, ranging from seven to 40-50, depending upon the tour. Classic Capri small-group boat tours include 12 passengers.

What's the best length of time for a boat tour?

If you’re taking a boat tour of Capri at sea and also want to dock on the island to explore a bit on land, you should book an eight-hour full-day tour. For a boat excursion along the Amalfi Coast with no stops on land, a four-hour tour is long enough.

What's the difference between a gozzo boat and a speedboat?

A gozzo is a traditional local boat made completely of wood. It has a large sundeck in the front and padded couches in the back under the sun awning. Larger gozzo boats also have a cabin with a restroom and galley.

Speedboats are more powerful and faster than gozzo boats. Smaller speedboats may not have a restroom on board, so check in advance.

Can I rent a boat and drive it myself?

Of course! There are a number of different boats you can rent without a skipper. In our listings, you'll find boats with engines under 40 HP that don’t require a boating license to rent. We recommend renting a boat without a skipper only if you have previous experience piloting a boat.

Is there a restroom on the boat?

Yes, most boats have a restroom on board; however, smaller gozzo boats and speedboats may not have a restroom. If you need to have a restroom on board, check before booking to make sure a restroom is listed in the tour's description of amenities.

Can I bring pets on board?

Yes, small dogs can be taken aboard private boats and many shared tours. For larger dogs, check directly with the boat tour company before booking.

I want to visit the Blue Grotto on my boat tour. How does it work?

During the tour, the boat will moor near the grotto opening. Small rowboats pass through the larger boats to pick up passengers who want to enter the sea cave. You must purchase a Blue Grotto ticket at the floating ticket office near the entrance, paying in cash. The queue to enter can be very long, sometimes up to two or three hours in high season. We recommend visiting in the early morning or late afternoon.

Are boat tours family friendly?

There is no age limit for boat tours and all boats have a sun awning and safety equipment for children. You can leave your stroller at the port office while you’re on your tour. We recommend booking a shorter boat tour if you’re traveling with children under age three, especially if they’re not used to being on a boat.

Can I bring my suitcases or bags on board?

Larger boats with an enclosed cabin have storage space for luggage.

Can I cancel a tour?

Most tours offer free cancellation up to a few days in advance or even a few hours before the tour departs. Regardless, all tours offer free cancellation in case of bad weather that prevents the tour from departing (particularly for boat tours). The tour boat company should have recommendations and whether or not they have a changing room.

Yes, most of the private boat tours I've seen for up to 5 people include a WC, Kitchen and a Cabin. As already mentioned, ask your boat company.

I've enjoyed the ease and simplicity of wearing board shorts and a quick dry sun shirt. By the time we'd get out of the water and made it to our stops we'd be fine with casual dining.

If the weather is warm enough for swimming it’s likely your swimsuit will dry by the time you arrive at a lunch stop. Have a lightweight cotton or linen dress or loose trousers / shorts / skirt with loose top to wear over and you’ll be set.
