To Book a trip with us please send the following information along with your deposit. The deposit for most trips is $100 per person. (See below for exceptions.) If you are booking a trip 60 days or less before the departure date, the entire amount is due . Most trips require some walking. Even though most are bus trips, you can’t see things if you stay on the bus. Some trips require more walking than others. Most all our overseas trips require several hours of walking each day, and it is often on rough surfaces such as cobblestone streets, etc. If you are not sure that you can tolerate the walking that is involved, please contact us before booking. If some travelers are not able to keep up with the pace, it holds others back. It is very important that you check to be sure you are physically able to do a trip before you book. Deposits on trips are now non-refundable. They can be applied to book another trip. Balances will be due on some trips 90 days prior to the trip. This includes trips that include a flight, a cruise, the SEC Tournament, and all trips that include international travel. These trips also have more than a $100 deposit. Bus Tours Provide Great Low Cost Travel Option; Not Just For Old People!

If you are looking for an inexpensive way to travel, check out tour bus companies in your area.  If you think bus tours are just for “old people,” think again.  With my travel club, Rambling Fever Travel, I used to offer charter bus tours.  I had folks on those trips from 18 to 80!  It’s true that a lot of older folks do travel by this mode of transportation, but it’s not just for them. What do you consider “old” anyway?!

So many advantages….

Bus tours are great for so many people.  Maybe your partner doesn’t like to travel or maybe you don’t have anyone to go with you.  With group travel, you are never alone.  You meet new people and friendships are formed quickly.  It’s also great if you don’t like to drive, or don’t want to put the wear and tear on your vehicle. Convenience is key with this type of travel.  You don’t have to worry about traffic, finding a place to park, ordering attraction/event tickets, making reservations, etc.  Everything is done for you, including baggage handling.  Board the motorcoach, then just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.  You can choose to engage in conversations, take a nap, watch a movie, read, or whatever.  Then, you are dropped off right at the door of your destination!

Usually, any trip that is priced over $100 can be made in payments.  A small deposit reserves your seat, and you make payments till it’s paid off (just like a cruise–which I will discuss later).  Depending on how big the trip is, the balance must be paid off anywhere from two weeks to 30 days.  Bus tour companies offer one day events, weekend trips, and 1-2 week trips or longer.

Some even offer cruises; taking the bus to the cruise port–which is great for those who won’t fly.

Great value

Bus tour prices are very reasonable for everything you get in return.  I’ve traveled many times on bus trips and have always had a great experience.  Don’t worry about the itinerary being too strict.  You will have plenty of time on your own to do what you want.  It is customary to leave a tip for the driver at the end of the trip.  The tour guide will usually gather tips from the guests before they exit the bus.

A  favorite bus tour company in my area is Shockey Tours, http://www.shockeytours.com     (502) 267-4007, out of Louisville, KY.  They are a faith based organization and have been in business since 1984.

There are several pick up points in KY and IN.   If you are in this part of the country, check it out.  I highly recommend them!

I have not yet traveled with this bus tour company but I am looking forward to doing so! I have been following them for some time and from the pics and all the great comments I saw on their Facebook page, I just had to check them out. So, I attended one of their 2019 Meet & Greet

I did an interview with Owner, Lillian Jett, which you can see on the Gal Gone Camping Facebook page.  Lillian is a retired school teacher and a great lady!  This company has been in business for 46 years and travels to all the most desirable locations in the US and beyond.

          Ideas for future trips

Another good thing about bus tours is it gives you a chance to scout out the area for future exploration.  You may want to return to a particular area and camp or or take part in certain events or recreational activities.

Any way you look at it, bus tours are a great travel option.  If you haven’t tried it, give it a shot.  There are probably several in your area.  Just Google bus tour companies in your location and see what you get.  However, it is a good idea to check reviews and how long they’ve been in business.

What does the price include?

The price covers the round-trip transportation on a deluxe motor coach bus. We also provide a snack bag and a cooler of water. We do have a few trips that include an overnight stay in the city, on those trips the hotel is covered in the price.

What is the age limit?

Ages 3 and up! All ages are the same price.

How long do I have to reserve a seat?

We don’t have a cut off date to reserve seats for any of our trips. We just sell until all the seats are sold.

How will I charge my phone?

Each seat has a 2 prong plug in outlet on the bus. We also highly recommend bringing a portable battery charger.

Will I be able to sit next to the person I am booking with?

We create seating charts for each trip. This way you can sit with the people you have booked with.

Juneteenth 2024: Here's what will be open and closed on the holiday

The nation's newest federal holiday - Juneteenth - lands in the middle of the workweek next week. Here's everything you need to know about the holiday, including what day it takes place, what will be closed and why we celebrate.

When is Juneteenth 2024?

Juneteenth always falls on June 19. In 2024, the holiday is on a Wednesday.

Are banks open on Juneteenth?

Like most federal holidays, expect your local banks and credit unions to be closed in observance of Juneteenth. Plan ahead if you think you will need anything from your bank on June 19.

Are government offices open on Juneteenth?

No. All non-essential federal, state and city government offices are closed Wednesday, June 19, for the holiday.

Government closures would include high-traffic spots including the Monroe County Department of Motor Vehicles . and the Monroe County Clerk's Office.

Will you get mail on Juneteenth?

Your regular mail will not be delivered on June 19 because the  United States Postal Service  also recognizes the Juneteenth holiday.

However, you may still receive deliveries:  FedEx  and  UPS  will be open and offering their usual services.

Are schools closed for Juneteenth?

Yes, public schools will be closed for the federal holiday, even with the holiday landing during the last week of school in the Rochester region.

Regarding private schools and universities, check the academic calendar to see if it is closed.

Will stores, restaurants close for Juneteenth?

Even though it is a federally recognized holiday, individual businesses decide whether or not they would like to be open on Juneteenth. You may want to call any local stores or restaurants you're planning on going to and ask if they'll be open.

Why do we celebrate Juneteenth?

Juneteenth is a holiday marking slaves in Texas learning in 1865 that they had been freed by President Abraham Lincoln's  Emancipation Proclamation . The executive order outlawed slavery in Confederate states beginning Jan. 1, 1863, the midpoint of the Civil War. The holiday rose to prominence in 2020 amid the nationwide protests about racial inequality after the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia, Breonna Taylor in Kentucky and George Floyd in Minnesota. President Joe Biden made Juneteenth a federal holiday in 2021.

How many federal holidays remain in 2024?

Each year, there are 11 federal holidays. Juneteenth is fifth in the annual lineup.

After Juneteenth, six federal holidays remain in 2024:

• Independence Day  (July 4, 2024)
• Labor Day  (First Monday in September - Sept. 2, 2024)
• Columbus Day  (Second Monday in October - Oct. 14, 2024)
• Veterans Day  (Nov. 11, 2024)
• Thanksgiving Day  (Fourth Thursday of November - Nov. 28, 2024)
• Christmas Day  (Dec. 25, 2024)
