As much as Chimaira are a stylistically diverse band - their sound runs the gamut from groove metal to thrash metal to industrial - it’d probably be unwise to suggest that they’re especially fond of compromise. They’re named after a monstrous creature from Greek mythology, and that’s an adjective that you can reasonably use to describe their sound, too; it’s utterly brutal and unrelentingly noisy. Over the course of sixteen years and seven records, they’ve carved out a dedicated cult fanbase, despite the fact that frontman Mark Hunter remains the only permanent member; their sound has consistently evolved over that time, making them one of the most versatile bands in metal. Their latest album, Crown of Phantoms, was released last summer and proved beyond doubt that Chimaira remain a creative force, despite it being their first since the departure of guitarists Matt DeVries and Rob Arnold in late 2011. A planned UK tour last year in support of it had to be canned after Hunter fell ill, and has been rescheduled for this October, instead, with eight dates in the diary; expect a high-octane, high-volume affair, with a veritable cornucopia of technical ability on display and Hunter himself back on top form.

Chimaira Reunite Classic Members for First Shows Since 2017

Metalcore heavyweights Chimaira are reuniting for a pair of shows next year, welcoming back several classic members to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough album  The Impossibility of Reason .

In an announcement on Facebook , the band exclaims, "Your favorite rippers from Cleveland are back for our first show since 2017 to host another heavy metal rager!"

Both shows will be held at The Agora Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio on May 12 and 13, with Integrity and State of Conviction set to open the first night while Ringworm and Solipsist will serve as the special guests the night after.

The lineup for these reunion shows is as follows:

Mark Hunter - vocals Rob Arnold - guitar Matt DeVries - guitar Jim LaMarca - bass Chris Spicuzza - keyboards/programming Austin D'Amond - drums

Hunter and Arnold are the lone remaining founders and LaMarca, Spicuzza and DeVries were part of the band during what many regard as their classic period. D'Amond (who just left DevilDriver ), meanwhile, first joined in 2011 and was only featured on the 2013 album  Crown of Phantoms , which did not feature any of the aforementioned members except for Hunter.

First released on Roadrunner in 2003,  The Impossibility of Reason  thrust Chimaira right to the forefront of the burgeoning New Wave of American Heavy Metal movement, bearing now classic tracks in "Power Trip," "Pure Hatred," "The Dehumanizing Process" and "Cleansation."

Fans will get to hear all of those tracks and more with Chimaira performing the album in full on both nights, per a tweet from Hunter. He also informed fans that the two sets may differ slightly while confirming that no other tour dates are planned for 2023 and, no, the group will not be recording new music either.

Hunter did leave the door open for a potential concert film.

A pre-sale for Chimaira's 2023 reunion shows will begin on Dec. 14 at 10AM ET with the promo code TIOR20, as mentioned in the band's Facebook post. A general public onsale will follow on Dec. 16, all at Chimaira's website .

Chimaira Announce 'The Impossibility of Reason' 20th Anniversary Reunion Shows

New Wave of American Heavy Metal pioneers Chimaira have announced their first live shows in six years, which will see them celebrating the 20th anniversary of their beloved 2003 sophomore album, The Impossibility Of Reason . The band will be reuniting most of their classic-era lineup for two shows in their hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, on Friday, May 12th and Saturday, May 13th.

Core members Mark Hunter (vocals), Rob Arnold and Matt DeVries (guitars), Jim LaMarca (bass) and Chris Spicuzza (keyboards, programming, etc.) will be back together onstage. Joining them will be drummer Austin D'Amond (ex-DevilDriver), who previously played with Chimaira from 2011 until their 2014 breakup, and also for the group's 2017 reunion.

Each show will feature a different set of openers, with Ohio heavy-music veterans Integrity and Ringworm set to play in direct support on different days. (See details below.) Ticket pre-sales will launch tomorrow (December 14th) via chimaira.com . The public onsale will follow this Friday, December 16th.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland metalcore band Chimaira is reuniting to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album “The Impossibility of Reason” with a pair of shows at the Agora Theatre on Friday, May 12, and Saturday, May 13. Tickets for the shows go on sale at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, at AXS .

Chimaira formed in Cleveland in 1998 and was dubbed one of the “New Wave of American Heavy Metal Bands,” releasing seven albums before disbanding in 2014. “The Impossibility of Reason” was the band’s sophomore release in May of 2003 and, for many fans, the pinnacle of their brand of heavy, relentless, drop-tuned, nearly-no-clean vocals metal typified in brutal songs such as locomotive “Power Trip,” and “The Dehumanizing Process.”

According to a tweet from vocalist Rob Hunter the lineup for the Agora shows will be Hunter, guitarists Rob Arnold and Matt DeVries, bassist Jim LaMarca, keyboardist Chris Spicuzza and drummer Austin D’Amond. Only D’Amond did not play on the original recording.

Opening the Friday show will be Integrity and State of Conviction. Saturday’s openers will be Ringworm and Solipsist.

Since disbanding, Chimaira has reunited for a Christmas show in 2017 and had planned for a 2020 Christmas show that was shut down by the pandemic.

CHIMAIRA: New Tour Dates Announced

Cleveland, Ohio metallers CHIMAIRA will embark on a short headlining tour in late November with support from IMPENDING DOOM , DAATH and THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE . Dubbed the "Blue Collar Brawler Tour" , the trek will include the following dates:

Nov. 24 - Chicago, IL - House of Blues Nov. 26 - Columbus, OH - Al Rosa Villa Nov. 27 - Detroit, MI - Harpos Nov. 28 - Pittsburgh, PA - Mr. Smalls Theater Nov. 29 - Toronto, ON - Opera House Nov. 30 - Montreal, QC - Club Soda Dec. 01 - Poughkeepsie, NY - The Chance Dec. 02 - West Springfield, VA - Jaxx Dec. 03 - Allentown, PA - Crocodile Rock Dec. 04 - Lancaster, PA - Chameleon Club

In other news, CHIMAIRA will play its eleventh annual Christmas show on December 30 at the House of Blues in the band's hometown.

CHIMAIRA released a DVD/CD set, "Coming Alive" , on July 20 via Ferret Music . This unprecedented release includes a four-part documentary filmed over the course of a year and a half while the entire package includes over seven hours of exclusive content. The DVD, filmed entirely in HD, showcases CHIMAIRA in the studio while recording its latest album, "The Infection" , and chronicles the band's recent, worldwide touring season.

According to a press release, "Coming Alive" is an in-depth look into CHIMAIRA 's life and music in the studio and on the road. Not only does the DVD set include this amazing documentary piece, another section, "Chimaira Xmas: Live Concert Film" , celebrates the 10th annual CHIMAIRA Christmas show in Cleveland, Ohio, which took place on December 30, 2009. 13 HD cameras capture CHIMAIRA releasing their fury for their hometown crowd on a dark and snowy night in December. Bonus features on the DVD include a 45-minute "Resurrection" "making-of" documentary, a 40-minute home-video documentary of never-before-seen moments, and a live CD featuring 17 tracks recorded at CHIMAIRA 's December 2009 Christmas show.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
