Weeks ahead of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s big fat Indian wedding, their extravagant wedding invite is going viral on social media. A culturally rooted invitation card filled with the photos and frames of several Hindu gods has been shared with guests for the wedding on July 12. One video of the invitation was recently shared on Instagram and has since been shared multiple times on various social media platforms. A temple like box was shown in the video, which had a tiny temple made of silver. As soon as the box was opened, Hindi mantras played in the background. It appears that there are some gold idols inside the box too.

In the viral video, cards for different functions can be seen with details of the events. While one of them was the silver temple with mantras playing in the background. The other one was a silver card, which looked like the main gate of an ancient temple. The card along with details had pictures of several Hindu deities including Lord Ganesh, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi, Radha-Krishna and goddess Durga.

The third invite was box, again made of silver and had Lord Vishnu all over it. The box contained several tiny frames and idols of Hindu Gods along with a shawl.

The card caught the attention of many on Reddit. A user wrote, “Ek cupboard bhi bhej dete, to keep the ‘wedding card’. Another user wrote, “People would have loved this 10 months back but now they have just made a mockery of the wedding. So much show off.” “This card is my entire shaadi budget bro”, read other comments.

Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, who had their roka ceremony back in 2023, are all set to tie the knot on July 12 in Mumbai after two extravagant pre-wedding events. The first pre-wedding event comprised of three days of festivities in Jamnagar. The second pre-wedding function was on a cruise in Europe in June. Both the celebrations had several celebrities in attendance. Singers like Katy Perry, Diljit Dosanjh, and Rihanna among others performed during these celebrations.

A s the eagerly awaited wedding of Anant Ambani, son of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, and Radhika Merchant approaches on July 12 in Mumbai, their lavish wedding invitation has taken social media by storm. The opulent invite, showcasing a miniature silver-plated temple adorned with images of various Hindu deities, has captivated many in a viral video.

The video showcasing the invitation was posted on Instagram and has since been shared extensively across various platforms. The video reveals a temple-like box with a silver miniature temple inside. Upon opening the box, Hindi mantras can be heard playing in the background, and it appears there are gold idols inside as well.

The grand celebrations will kick off on Friday, July 12 , with the Shubh Vivah (wedding ceremony), followed by the Shubh Aashirwad (divine blessings ceremony) on July 13, and will conclude with the Mangal Utsav (wedding reception) on July 14.

Opening the intricately designed box reveals a background of Hindi mantras, and it seems to also contain golden idols. The invitation includes several leaflets detailing the various events.

One part of the invitation is a silver temple, accompanied by the sound of mantras. Another piece is a silver card designed to resemble the entrance of an ancient temple, featuring details and images of Hindu deities such as Lord Ganesh, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi, Radha-Krishna, and Goddess Durga.

A third invitation is a silver box decorated with images of Lord Vishnu. Inside this box are multiple small frames and idols of Hindu deities, along with a shawl.

GM's Cruise names new CEO as it works to relaunch robotaxi service

General Motors Co.'s Cruise LLC autonomous driving unit has hired Marc Whitten, a former Amazon executive and founding engineer at Xbox, as the next CEO as it tries to get back on track after halting services last year amid scrutiny over its safety practices.

Whitten will take over as Cruise's top executive effective July 16, Cruise said Tuesday. Kyle Vogt, former Cruise CEO and founder , left the company in November after Cruise  suspended operations in October. The serve halt was triggered  when one of Cruise's Chevrolet Bolt autonomous electric vehicles dragged a San Francisco pedestrian who was first struck by a human-driven vehicle and thrown into the AV's path.

Whitten will be joining Cruise as it pushes to relaunch service in Houston and other cities .

“Marc is a proven technology and business leader with extensive experience in scaling products and building ecosystems around them,” GM CEO Mary Barra said in a statement. “He has sparked innovation and driven growth in complex, fast-paced environments throughout his career, and I believe that will prove crucial to Cruise’s vision of creating technology that provides real, tangible benefits to society.”

At Amazon, Whitten was general manager and vice president across a range of entertainment devices and services, including Fire TV, Kindle and Amazon apps and entertainment services, according to Cruise. He was most recently chief product and technology officer for Create at Unity, which is a part of Unity Technologies, a leading software platform for game building.

Mo Elshenawy will continue to serve as president and chief technology officer at Cruise and Craig Glidden will be president and chief administrative officer. Both will report to Whitten, as will Steve Kenner, Cruise’s chief safety officer hired in February.

Cruise also announced it hired Nick Mulholland as its chief communications and marketing officer. Most recently, Mulholland led electric vehicle startup Rivian Automotive Inc.’s global communications team.

Separately, GM said Tuesday it hired Grant Dixton as executive vice president and chief legal and public policy officer beginning July 15. Dixton, who has decades of experience in the technology and manufacturing industries, has had senior leadership roles at Activision Blizzard, a video game holding company, and Boeing, according to GM.

In this role, Dixton will report to Barra and oversee the company’s global legal, compliance, corporate governance, privacy and public policy functions, GM said.

 Dixton is taking the position held by Glidden, who will focus his time on Cruise. Glidden will also serve as executive vice president and strategic adviser at GM.  Glidden joined GM in 2015 as general counsel.

Nearly 71 Million People Expected to Travel over July 4th Week

This year’s extended independence day forecast exceeds pre-pandemic numbers, sets new record.

WASHINGTON, DC (June 20, 2024) – AAA projects 70.9 million travelers will head 50 miles or more from home over the Independence Day holiday travel period*. For the first time, AAA looked at the entire July 4 th week, plus the Saturday before and the Sunday after the holiday. This year’s projected number of travelers for that time period is a 5% increase compared to 2023 and an 8% increase over 2019.

“With summer vacations in full swing and the flexibility of remote work, more Americans are taking extended trips around Independence Day,” said Paula Twidale, Senior Vice President of AAA Travel. “We anticipate this July 4 th week will be the busiest ever with an additional 5.7 million people traveling compared to 2019.”   

AAA projects a record 60.6 million people will travel by car over Independence Day week – that’s an additional 2.8 million travelers compared to last year. This year’s number also surpasses 2019 when 55.3 million people traveled by car over July 4 th week. AAA car rental partner Hertz says Dallas, Denver, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco are the cities displaying the highest rental demand during the holiday week. The busiest pick-up days are projected to be Friday, June 28, Saturday, June 29, and Wednesday, July 3.   

Gas prices are lower than last year when the national average was $3.53. Pump prices will likely continue going down leading up to Independence Day.  At that point, they will likely level off and remain relatively stable until after Labor Day, similar to last year.  An important caveat is hurricane season – underway now – which could affect gas prices should a storm negatively impact Gulf Coast oil production and refining centers.  

The number of air travelers is also expected to set a new record. AAA projects 5.74 million people will fly to their July 4 th destinations. That’s an increase of nearly 7% compared to last year and a 12% increase over 2019. AAA booking data shows domestic airfare is 2% cheaper this Independence Day week compared to last year, and the average price for a domestic roundtrip ticket is $800. Airports will be packed throughout the week. AAA recommends arriving 2 hours early, reserving parking ahead of time, and traveling with carry-on luggage versus checked bags to save time and money.   

More than 4.6 million people are expected to travel by other modes of transportation, including buses, cruises, and trains. This category is seeing an increase of 9% compared to last year, but this year’s number is shy of 2019’s figure of 4.79 million. Cruising continues its remarkable post-pandemic comeback. This time of year, Alaska cruises are in high demand, making Seattle and Anchorage top domestic destinations. Cruise travelers are also finding deals this summer. With new ships coming onto the market – and going for a premium – some cruise lines have been offering targeted discounts to fill older inventory for remaining cabins.  

Best/Worst Times to Drive and Peak Congestion by Metro 

INRIX , a provider of transportation data and insights, says the worst times to travel by car before and on July 4 th are between 2pm and 7pm. Drivers should hit the road in the morning, and travelers returning on Monday, July 8 th should avoid rush hour traffic in the morning and afternoon.  

“Drivers in large metro areas can expect the worst traffic delays on Wednesday, July 3 rd , as they leave town, and Sunday, July 7th, as they return,” said Bob Pishue, transportation analyst at INRIX. “R oad trips over the holiday week could take up to 67% longer than normal. Travelers should monitor 511 services, local news stations, and traffic apps for up-to-the-minute road conditions.”

Family Road Trip Checklist    

With road trips expected to set a new record this July 4 th week, AAA teamed up with Chicco to share safety tips for families with young children.  

• Check car seat fit. Before you hit the road, check your child’s weight and height to ensure they’re in the right seat and mode of use – especially when it comes to transitioning from rear to forward-facing. Children should remain rear-facing as long as possible for better protection of their head, neck, and spine in the event of a crash. If you are unsure which car seat is best for your child, Chicco offers a car seat comparison guide.    
• Double check car seat installation. Even if your car seat is already installed in the car, it’s worth checking everything is safe and secure. An easy at-home way to do this is with the “inch test.” Simply grab the seat at the car seat belt path and pull side to side and front to back. If it moves more than one inch in any direction, uninstall and start over until a secure fit is achieved. For any questions, utilize the car seat manual, QR codes, or online resources like those offered by Chicco.    
• Secure loose items in the car. Take time to organize and clean up your car before hitting the road. In cooperation with AAA, S&P Global Market Intelligence (SPGMI) developed a unique methodology to forecast actual domestic travel volumes. The economic variables used to forecast travel for the current holiday are leveraged from SPGMI’s proprietary databases. These data include macroeconomic drivers such as employment, output, household net worth, asset prices, including stock indices, interest rates, housing market indicators, and variables related to travel and tourism, including gasoline prices, airline travel, and hotel stays. AAA and SPGMI have quantified holiday travel volumes going back to 2000.   

Historical travel volume estimates come from DK SHIFFLET’s TRAVEL PERFORMANCE/Monitor SM . The PERFORMANCE/Monitor SM is a comprehensive study measuring the travel behavior of U.S. residents. DK SHIFFLET contacts over 50,000 U.S. households each month to obtain detailed travel data, resulting in the unique ability to estimate visitor volume and spending, identify trends, and forecast U.S. travel behavior, all after the trips have been taken.  

The travel forecast is reported in person-trips. In particular, AAA and SPGMI forecast the total U.S. holiday travel volume and expected mode of transportation. The travel forecast presented in this report was prepared the week of May 27, 2024.   

Because AAA forecasts focus on domestic leisure travel only, comparisons to TSA passenger screening numbers should not be made. TSA data includes all passengers traveling on both domestic and international routes. Additionally, TSA screens passengers each time they enter secured areas of the airport, therefore each one-way trip is counted as a passenger tally. AAA focuses on person-trips, which include the full round-trip travel itinerary. As a result, direct comparisons of AAA forecast volumes and daily TSA screenings represent different factors.  

*Independence Day Holiday Travel Period   

For this forecast, the Independence Day holiday travel period is defined as the nine-day period from Saturday, June 29 to Sunday, July 7. Historically, the Independence Day holiday period included only one weekend. This is the first year the Independence Day holiday travel period is a longer timeframe with two weekends included.

The happiest place on Earth will be so much easier to get to from next year. The Disney Adventure cruise will set sail from Singapore's Marina Bay Cruise Centre beginning in 2025, for three- and four-night voyages, for at least five years, announced Disney Cruise Line on Wednesday (Jun 26).  

This is the first ship under the Disney Cruise Line to homeport in Asia, and is part of a collaboration between Disney Cruise Line and the Singapore Tourism Board.

There will be seven uniquely themed areas onboard for guests to explore, each with different beloved Disney characters.

1. DISNEY IMAGINATION GARDEN 

Only with a little Disney imagination can an open-air performance venue also be an enchanted valley and charming garden.

This gathering space, inspired by Disney adventures over the last 100 years from Moana to Mowgli, will be guests' gateway into the other realms onboard the cruise. 

2. DISNEY DISCOVERY REEF

In the nautical themed shopping and dining haven, expect to bump into characters from The Little Mermaid, Lilo & Stitch, Finding Nemo, and Luca.

3. SAN FRANSOKYO STREET

What would it be like living in a city with Japanese and American architecture combined  – or, in other words, the central location of Disney's 2014 animated film Big Hero 6?

At least on the Disney Adventure cruise, San Fransokyo street will be a family entertainment area, comprising interactive games, shops, and cinemas. 

4. WAYFINDER BAY

Here, an open-air oasis under the sun combines relaxation and entertainment. A poolside retreat inspired by the Pacific Islands artistry of Disney Animation's Moana will offer cruise guests with breathtaking views of the sea and sky. 

5. TOWN SQUARE

This is the land  – or fantastical forest  – to be if you've always dreamt of becoming a Disney royal. Shops, lounges, cafes, restaurants and entertainment venues in this space will be fashioned after classics, including Tangled, Cinderella, Frozen, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and The Princess and the Frog.

6. MARVEL LANDING

As an homage to Marvel's larger-than-life personalities, this area will offer "Avengers-level adventure" for fans of all ages, with attractions and experiences that capture "imaginative representations" of guests' favourite superheroes.

7. TOY STORY PLACE

Old school Pixar fans are in for a treat here. Guests can interact with themed food venues and water play areas, all dedicated to bringing Toy Story movies and shorts to life.

The Disney Adventure is expected to hold approximately 6,700 passengers, with around 2,500 crew members.

Amazon Prime Day is fast approaching, and beyond viral beauty products or hot new kitchenware, the e-commerce giant is introducing savings on travel just in time for any last-minute summer vacations.

Amazon partnered with various travel companies, including Southwest Airlines, Viator, Turo, Carnival, and others, to give Prime members early access to price cuts on travel packages, car rentals, and cruises.

In a similar move last summer fellow retail competitor Walmart partnered with Expedia to give Walmart+ members the ability to earn Walmart Cash by booking vacations.

"These travel deals are sort of an extra that they can offer their members," RetailMeNot editor Kristin McGrath told ABC News. "There are plenty of ways you can save and get discounts. These membership programs can just make it a little bit easier."

Teresita Nino has used Costco to book vacation packages and told ABC News how she saved on international deals.

"My last trip that we booked was to Saint Lucia and we ended up booking the airfare and the hotel -- I ended up saving about $700," Nino said of her experience using Costco. "Nine out of ten times is Costco Travel is always giving me a better deal overall than other travel companies."

Access to Costco's travel deals require a paid membership as an extra perk for customers.

"The travel savings are the cherry on top -- but it's not necessarily the most lucrative benefit," McGrath said. "In these membership programs, you have to take the value of membership as a whole rather than just joining to save on travel."
