What We Fish For

Our Lake Lewisville catfishing trips will provide you with the opportunity to catch a trophy sized fish.  On these trips we target blue catfish but also catch channel catfish.  It is not uncommon to catch Blue Catfish in the 20-40 pound range on Lake Lewisville and there are larger fish out there.  The lake record Blue Catfish currently stands at just over 62 pounds.  Whether you are a beginner or advance angler your fishing guide will be there right by your side to give you the help you need to land one of these monster fish.

White Bass & Hybrids

Our Lake Lewisville White Bass and Hybrid fishing trips can provide some fast paced action with fish that put up a good fight for there size.  Lake Lewisville has been stocked consistently with hybrid bass for the last three years and we are really starting to see some good size fish.  Both white bass and hybrid bass are a schooling fish meaning if we are able to find a school of hungry fish we can catch a large quantity of fish in a short amount of time.  Depending on the season and weather we will use live bait or artificial lures.  Our most productive techniques are jigging, live bait fishing and trolling.  Your fishing guide will select the method of fishing that will be the most productive given the conditions on that particular trip.

What Sets Us Apart from Other Lake Lewisville Fishing Guides?

  • Safety - Your safety is our top priority.  Your captain and guide holds a 25 ton Masters Captain's License and is certified in CPR and first aid.
  • Commitment to creating memorable experiences - While we can't control the weather or fishing conditions on any particular trip, we focus heavily on all of the things that are within our control to make memorable experiences no matter what the fish count is.
  • Top of the line equipment - From the boat and electronics to rods and reels, we use top quality equipment and maintain it regularly.
  • Ability to fish in comfort - Our boat is not only set up to fish but also offers many of the comforts of home.
  • Fishery conservation - We are not strictly catch and release but promote responsible harvesting to ensure that this resource will be able to be enjoyed for generations in the future.
  • Knowledge - Your captain and guide has over 30 years of experience fishing both in fresh and saltwater.  In this time he has caught many different species ranging from bluegill to an 800 pound Blue Marlin.

"Mr. McVay was extremely knowledgeable and extremely helpful in making the trip a truly memorable experience. He provided extra assistance to a person in our group that has disabilities that presented challenges to fishing, but I don’t believe I’ve seen him smile as much as he did bringing in his catches."

  • Where Do We Meet? The location of the boat ramp will be determined when the fishing trip is booked. Once the location is determined, we will send an address. Our boat ramp for Lake Lewisville is the Little Elm Boat Ramp. Our boat ramp for Lake Ray Roberts is the Isle Du Bois State Park. Our boat ramp for Lake Texoma is Cedar Mills Marina. The location is subject to change based on fishing conditions. All changes will be communicated within 24 hours prior to the fishing trip.
  • Do We Need a Fishing License? Get in touch with us and we'll get you on the schedule for a guided fishing trip! An TX freshwater fishing license is required for anyone 17 or older.
  • How Long Are Your Guided Fishing Trips? Usually, our fishing trips last five to six hours, but on the weekends we offer full eight-hour trips just in case you do not find 5.5 hours sufficient.
  • Is It Ok to Bring Our Own Equipment? Yes, absolutely! It is understandable that you may have your own personal secret weapon, and we will do everything in our power to connect that weapon!
  • What is the Best Time to Go? Almost every day, we get asked when is a good time to go. In some cases, the bite is better in the morning, and in some cases, it is better in the afternoon. Every day is an opportunity to have a good time! It is usually best to fish in spring, summer, and fall, although fish can be caught in the winter as well. Our goal is to make every trip productive.
  • What Kind of Fish Will We Catch? White bass, hybrid stripers, crappie, stripers, and catfish are our main targets. We want to catch them and fillet them up so everyone can eat the fruit of our labor! It is not uncommon for us to catch freshwater drums, largemouth bass, and even carp occasionally. We are also happy to allow clients to take largemouth bass home to eat. Since freshwater drums and carp aren't great table fare, we will release them once returned to the lake.
  • What is the Payment Method? Barefoot Guide Service accepts all major credit cards, PayPal, and Venmo but cash is always the preferred method for payment.

What you should expect.

Expect to catch a lot of fish – I expect you to catch a lot of fish, otherwise, we would not be going fishing. I spend a lot of time looking and keeping on top of the fish so that when I take you (the customer) out you can catch fish and not spend a lot of your time looking for fish or just simply trying to catch fish. We want to catch fish (and lots of them). If at the time of your booking the fishing happens to be off, I’ll tell you that also. I will always be truthful with you. Rescheduling your trip is an option.

Spring & Summer Fishing in Texas

During March through May, all fish bite well. Expect lots of Hybrids and White Bass first and foremost in Texas. Also during this time, it’s eating size Blue Cats at its best – there is no better time for the eating size Blues than Mid March through Mid May. Starting in Mid April we also start fishing the Crappies, Aquilla, and Navarro Mills.

During June through November, the Hybrid/Stripers and White Bass and Crappie are good to GREAT. The last few summers have been very, very good in Texas. Also, the Blue Cats are very good again starting September through February.

Winter Fishing in Texas

During December through February, the White Bass and Hybrids can be very, very good in Texas. October and November provide some good Top Water Action on Texas, while December through February we Slab the Striper/Hybrids up from the deeper water, sometimes two at a time. Those Hybrids are fun to catch! And the Blue Cats can be great during this same time.

The December through February time frame is when we do the Trophy Blue Cat Fishing (Big, Big Blue Cats), you have to try that, they will wear you OUT!

Expect to be treated very well by a professional – My goal is for all my customers to have an enjoyable relaxing trip (letting me take care of all the work) and you just have a GREAT day catching fish.

Expect to really enjoy your fishing trip – And plan another trip as soon as you can.

In this guide, we'll explore the best seasons for fishing, the types of fish you can catch, and some tips to make the most of your fishing trip in Rockport.

Why go Fishing in Rockport?

Fish Caught Near Rockport, Texas

Rockport boasts a unique combination of serene bays, productive estuaries, and access to the Gulf of Mexico, making it one of the premier fishing destinations in Texas. The town's rich marine environment supports a diverse array of fish species year-round, ensuring that there's always something biting, no matter when you visit.

Best Seasons for Fishing in Rockport

While fishing in Rockport can be fruitful any time of year, certain seasons are particularly bountiful for specific types of fish. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect each season:

Spring (March to May)

Spring is an excellent time to fish in Rockport. As the waters warm up, many fish species become more active. During these months, you can expect to catch Speckled Trout, Redfish, and Flounder.

Summer (June to August)

Summer is the peak season for fishing in Rockport, attracting anglers from all over. The long, sunny days provide ample time to enjoy the water. Key catches include the Red Snapper, King Mackerel, and Tarpon.

Fall (September to November)

Fall brings cooler temperatures and a continuation of excellent fishing opportunities. The fish are feeding heavily in preparation for winter, leading to high activity. Expect to catch Speckled Trout, Redfish, and Black Drum.

Winter (December to February)

Winter fishing in Rockport is less crowded but still rewarding. The cooler weather and water temperatures change the behavior of many species, but dedicated anglers can still find success with Sheepshead, Flounder, and Speckled Trout.

Types of Fish in Rockport

Rockport's waters are teeming with a variety of fish species, each offering a unique challenge and reward. Here are some of the most sought-after catches:

Inshore Fish

Speckled trout.

Speckled Trout Caught Near Rockport, Texas

Known for their spotted appearance and tasty fillets, Speckled Trout are elongated fish with a distinctive silver coloration, dark green or blue backs, and black spots along their upper bodies and dorsal fins. Commonly found in shallow coastal waters, including bays and estuaries, they thrive in areas like Aransas Bay and Copano Bay. To catch speckled trout, use light tackle with live shrimp or soft plastic lures mimicking small fish. Drifting or casting near seagrass beds and under lights at night can be particularly effective.

Redfish Caught Near Rockport, Texas

Redfish, also known as red drum, have a reddish-bronze body with a black spot near the tail and are known for their strong fight when hooked. They inhabit shallow waters, particularly marshes, bays, and tidal flats, with key spots in Rockport including Estes Flats and Little Bay. Use medium to heavy tackle with live bait such as mullet or crab, or artificial lures like gold spoons and soft plastics. Sight casting in shallow waters can be very effective for catching redfish.

Flounder Caught Near Rockport, Texas

Flounders are flatfish with both eyes on one side of their body, typically brown with various spots and patterns for camouflage, while their underside is white. As bottom-dwellers, flounder are commonly found in sandy or muddy areas near piers, docks, and estuaries, prevalent in places like Rockport Beach Park and Goose Island State Park. Light to medium tackle with live bait such as mud minnows or finger mullet, or jigging soft plastic lures along the bottom, can entice Flounders to strike.

Sheepshead Caught Near Rockport, Texas

Sheepshead have vertical black stripes over a silver body, resembling a zebra, and strong, human-like teeth used for crushing shellfish. They are often found around structures such as piers, rocks, and jetties, with Fulton Harbor and the jetties at Aransas Bay being prime locations. Use light tackle with small hooks and live bait such as shrimp, fiddler crabs, or barnacles. Fishing near pilings and other structures where Sheepshead feed is particularly effective.

Offshore Fish

Red snapper.

Red Snapper Caught Near Rockport, Texas

Red Snappers have a vibrant red color with a streamlined body and a slightly pointed snout, making them highly prized for their flavor and sport. Typically found in deeper waters near reefs and artificial structures offshore, charter boats from Rockport can take you to these prime fishing spots. Heavy tackle with circle hooks and live or cut bait such as squid or sardines works best, dropping your bait near reefs or wrecks.

King Mackerel

King Mackerel Caught Near Rockport, Texas

King Mackerel are sleek, elongated fish with a greenish-blue back and silver sides, known for their speed and sharp teeth. Found in deeper offshore waters and around structures such as oil rigs and reefs, King Mackerel are often caught in the Gulf of Mexico, accessible from Rockport. Trolling with live bait such as blue runners or dead bait like ribbonfish is highly effective, using wire leaders to prevent their sharp teeth from cutting the line.

Tarpon Caught Near Rockport, Texas

Tarpon have large, shiny silver scales and an elongated body, famous for their acrobatic leaps when hooked. Usually found in coastal waters, estuaries, and near river mouths, Tarpon are present in Rockport's coastal waters and near the jetties. Use heavy tackle with live bait such as mullet or crabs, casting to schools of fish or drifting bait in strong tidal currents for the best results.

Boaters describe nightmare fishing trip after engine breaks, left stranded for hours in dark

MADISON COUNTY, Fla. ( WCTV /Gray News) - Three men are home safe after they experienced a nightmare fishing trip as they got stranded off the coast of Florida for hours over the weekend.

Scott Snow, Dillon McRae and Adam Simpson left for a fishing trip Friday morning.

However, that night, their boat broke down due to an electrical issue, leaving them stuck on the water without any cell service or radio signal to call for help.

The men said the wind started blowing around 40 mph with 10 to 12-foot waves crashing into the boat.

They tried to head back to land, but the waves and wind were so strong they worried their boat would capsize. So, they stayed overnight.

Snow and McRae said they both got violently sick from the crashing of the waves.

“I was throwing up,” Snow said. “All night, all day.”

The men survived the overnight hours and the next morning they tried to start the boat’s engine, but it wouldn’t start.

And that’s when they began to fear the worst.

“We were starting to ration water,” Snow said.

Frantic messages to friends and family went unanswered as they were still in an area without any service.

Miraculously, one of their messages ended up going through and hours later a helicopter and Coast Guard boat could be seen approaching.

“They passed us three times and didn’t see us,” Snow said. “We used all our flares.”

Finally, after shooting off their last flare, rescuers saw them.

“They started coming towards us and all of a sudden they started circling us,” McRae said.

The nightmare was over.

“Relieved,” Snow and McRae said when asked how they felt. “Relieved, to say the least. We were going home.”

The Texas rig just might be a bass angler’s best option for early summer action. There are limitless options of bait styles you can put on your hook, and depending on the size of your bullet weight, there are endless ways to fish it.

Most bass anglers learn the Texas rig as one of their first bass-specific techniques, and for a good reason. It is an incredibly versatile rig that tricks both aggressive and lethargic bass. It’s also straightforward to rig up, making it a go-to for beginner anglers.

You can fish a Texas rig anywhere, but it truly shines in and around underwater vegetation or in laydowns along the bank. In any case, if you’re headed out for a day of early summer bass fishing, don’t sleep on the Texas rig. Here’s everything you need to know to catch bass on this technique.

The Texas Rig

guided fishing trips north texas

The standard Texas rig consists of a bullet weight and an EWG hook with a soft plastic rigged onto the hook to make it weedless. If you’re fishing in thicker grass, sometimes it can help to add a small rubber peg, also known as a bobber stopper, on the line above the bullet weight to keep the weight and bait in contact to reduce the amount of weeds that could get stuck on your line. In most scenarios, however, I prefer to go with an unpegged Texas rig to maximize the action of my soft plastic.

As for the soft plastic you choose, your options really are endless. To make your life a bit easier, I recommend using a stick bait, a ribbontail worm, a creature bait, or a crawfish imitator. Those four soft plastics are my go-to options when I’m rigging up for some early summer post-spawn action.

How to Rig a Texas Rig

guided fishing trips north texas

A Texas rig should take no more than a minute to be ready to fish. The hardest part will be rigging your soft plastic straight and weedless on the hook. Below is a step-by-step guide.

Step 1: Select your Texas rig hook. Typically, a 2/0 or 3/0 EWG hook.

Step 2: Select your bullet weight. Typically a lead or tungsten bullet weight from ⅛-ounce to ½-ounce.

Step 3: Thread your bullet weight onto your line. Then, using a Palomar knot , tie your line to the Texas rig hook. (If you’re using a bobber stopper , thread that onto your line prior to adding the bullet weight.)

Step 4: Select your soft plastic and rig it onto the hook weedless. For further explanation, here’s a quick tutorial .

What Makes the Texas Rig so Effective?

The Texas rig has caught bass in every state where bass exist. It’s not just a beginner’s technique, many professional anglers rely on the Texas rig to produce bites when it matters most. But why?

The versatility of a Texas rig is what makes it so effective. Having the ability to put practically any soft plastic bait on your hook and fish it effectively can’t be understated. Most other techniques won’t be very effective if you’re not using the right type of soft plastic. But the Texas rig seems to shine no matter what you want to throw. Swimbaits, stick baits, creature baits, crawfish imitators, and big ribbontail worms will all catch fish on a Texas rig. Having a banner day simply requires figuring out where and how you’re going to fish this weedless rig.

Furthering a Texas rig’s versatility is controlling your bait’s fall rate. Fall rate may be a bit more of an advanced term, but it’s pretty self explanatory. With the ability to select any size bullet weight, you have all of the power to have your soft plastic slowly sink through the water column, or have it rocket to the bottom. Depending on the mood of the bass and the weather conditions, those options could make all of the difference in getting a bite or getting skunked.

guided fishing trips north texas

The fall rate can also be affected by the use of a bobber stopper. Putting a bobber stopper above your bullet weight can keep the entire rig together, allowing it to slip in and out of holes in the grass more easily. The downside is that you don’t get nearly as much action from your soft plastic. Without a bobber stopper, on a slack line, your bullet weight will sink to the bottom, but your soft plastic will slowly glide towards the bottom while enticing hungry bass into biting. As you hop the weight along, the soft plastic will dance behind it, leaving space between the weight and the bait, causing action in the soft plastic that’s hard to replicate using any other technique.

However, my favorite part of this technique is that it catches both largemouth and smallmouth the same. In the early summer, both bass species congregate in and around grass lines to feed. As ambush predators, the aquatic vegetation provides the perfect spot to sit and wait for an unsuspecting baitfish or crawfish to meander by. When that baitfish or crawfish is your Texas rig, they won’t know the difference.

In my opinion, when it comes to fishing for springtime or early summertime bass, there’s no better technique than a Texas rig.

For a deep dive video on the Texas rig, check out this great video from my friend TylersReelFishing.

When to Throw a Texas Rig

Typically, fishing a Texas rig around aquatic vegetation in the early summer is a surefire way to get a few bites. By the early summer, most of the bass have finished spawning in the shallows and have now pushed back to deeper water to find their summer haunts. Grass lines in 8 to 15 feet of water make a perfect location for ambushing their prey and hiding from other predatory fish like muskies.

I’ve found over the years that the best grass line or weed bed consists of two types of grass converging together. Whether that’s milfoil and hydrilla, eelgrass and waterweed, or any other combination you can dream up, finding those areas can lead to some of the best days you’ll have fishing a Texas rig.

guided fishing trips north texas

I wouldn’t recommend using a bobber stopper when you’re fishing younger, emergent grasses. You’ll see much more benefit having the increased action in your bait and you shouldn’t reel back too many weeds. But as the summer wanes on and the grass gets thicker, a bobber stopper might be necessary to get your bait through the holes in the grass and to the bottom where the bass lie in wait.

As you fish in and around grass, you’ll learn that losing fish in the grass is just a part of the game. Not every hooked fish will end up in your hands, they’re pretty good at digging into the thickest weed patch they can find to avoid capture. The Texas rig, however, seems to be a technique that leads to fewer lost fish than other popular grass fishing options.

The reason why boils down to how the fish are typically hooked on a Texas rig. It seems like nine out of ten times, when you set the hook with a Texas rig, the hook is buried right where you want it, in the roof of their mouth. This location allows you the most control over the bass during the fight, and once the hook is in there, it’s not easy for the bass to shake it. Having the right rod, reel, and line setup will only improve your likelihood of success and reduce the amount of fish you lose to the grass. Here’s the gear you need.

Texas Rig Setups, Baits, Hooks, and Weights

Picking the right texas rig rod.

Due to the versatility of the Texas rig, picking the right rod truly comes down to personal preference and knowing where you’ll be fishing a Texas rig most of the time. For me, that’s in emergent or medium-density grass lines, so my rod of choice will reflect that. But, if you plan to fish in heavier grass, a heavier action rod will always be a safer bet.

You can fish a Texas rig on a spinning rod , but I almost always reach for a baitcasting rod as it gives me more control when casting and fighting the bass back to the boat. Typically, I’ll pick up a 7 foot, medium action with a moderate tip. My favorite rod for this is the Shimano Zodias . The versatility of this rod choice matches the versatility of the Texas rig beautifully.

Picking the Right Texas Rig Reel

Since I’ve recommended fishing your Texas rig on a baitcasting reel, we’ll stick in that vein, but if you want to fish it on a spinning rod, check out the best spinning reels to use with it. As for the baitcasting reel, I prefer a low-profile reel with a solid drag. The low-profile reel gives me even more control when I’m casting or pitching the Texas rig in and around the grass. My favorite reel for these Texas rig scenarios is the Daiwa Tatula Elite 100HSL . It offers an incredibly smooth casting experience, and the drag works flawlessly, even when the bass digs into thick grass, which requires some patience and pulling to get them out.

The Best Texas Rig Baits

As I’ve mentioned before, you can fish practically any soft plastic on a Texas rig. But, for the sake of brevity, I’m going to list out three of my favorites.

When fishing around laydowns in the early summer, I often find myself reaching for some type of creature bait like a Zoom Baby Brush Hog . The Baby Brush Hog offers just enough action to entice bass holding tight to the tree limbs into biting.

When fishing in younger, emergent grasses, I tend to rig up a 7-inch Berkley PowerBait Power Worm . The action in the tail is unbeatable, and when I put on a smaller bullet weight, this worm dances through the water column just above the grass and drives bass nuts.

If I find myself fishing a Texas rig in thicker grasses like milfoil or hydrilla, I like to go with a beaver style creature bait. My favorite is the Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver . This streamlined bait paired with a bobber stopper and heavier bullet weight allows the Texas rig to slip through thicker grass and find its way to the bottom where hungry bass are waiting to ambush.

The Best Texas Rig Hooks

When deciding on which hook to throw on your Texas rig, don’t stress over it too much. As long as your hook is sharp and isn’t going to break on you, any EWG hook will do. My choice is almost always a 3/0 Berkley Fusion19 Superline EWG Hook . These hooks are sharp and have never let me down.

Bullet Weights for Texas Rigs

The bullet weight you choose for your Texas rig is one of the most important pieces of the puzzle. Picking the right weight for each situation is paramount. Lucky for you, bullet weights are offered in nearly any size you can imagine. Typically, I stay within ⅛-ounce to ½-ounce for my bullet weights.

As for the material the weights are made of, you have options there too. For the average angler, lead weights should be just fine, but if you’re looking to up your Texas rig to the next level, a tungsten bullet weight will offer you more sensitivity and feedback as you work your bait along the bottom. Below are my favorite options for lead and tungsten bullet weights.

Line for Texas Rigs

When it comes time to spool up your Texas rigging baitcasting reel, look no further than 12-pound Sunline Super FC Sniper Fluorocarbon Line . The fluorocarbon line will be the best option for your Texas rig as the line is slow sinking in and of itself, helping the action of your bait as it falls through the water column.

Final Thoughts and Tips on How to Fish a Texas Rig

As you can see, there are a million and one ways to rig up a Texas rig. From weight selection to deciding the right soft plastic, rigging a Texas rig can be daunting if you let it. Instead, I’d recommend picking a 1/4-ounce weight and your favorite soft plastic bait and heading to the water. More than likely, you’ll get a few bites before the day is over and your confidence will skyrocket.

From there, experiment with different baits and weight combinations. Each weight and bait combination will have a different fall rate and action. Figuring out a few favorites will help you narrow down the gear you really need for your next fishing trip.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

guided fishing trips north texas

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

guided fishing trips north texas

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

guided fishing trips north texas

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

guided fishing trips north texas

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
