There is no comparison with other tour companies. Yankee is THE BEST! If they weren't, we wouldn't be on our 10 tour with them. (We are aiming for 30+ tours & rallies like some of the more "seasoned folks.) Great value, knowledgeable guides, safety in numbers. and we're all able to communicate with each other on their radios.

Mary and I have been on Yankee Tours since 2017 and on the competition. Hands down Yankee is 5Star for sure. The wagon mastors are very confident and professional. Entertainment was always top draw.

Wagonmaster

Most RV caravans have a Wagonmaster who heads out first ensuring all reservations for RV Parks or excursions are ready for their customers when they arrive.  The RV owners are given advice as to what direction, the best route, sights to see along the way and given a suggested arrival time at that days destination.

Following the group is a tail gunner who follows along to ensure anyone with any difficulty whether it is regarding breakdowns or accidents are given the services they need to continue with the tour.  The tail gunner is most often an experienced mechanic or Rver with tools and skills to assist as much as possible.  This ensures no one in the group is left sitting along a highway with a breakdown and not able to communicate their need to the group.

Price Includes

Of course each RV caravan tour company is different but for the most part RV Park fees and reservations are included in the tour price.  Some other features usually included are:

• Trip logs (maps)
• Services of Wagonmaster and Tailgunner
• Emergency medical assistance insurance
• Fees for border crossings and visas
• Side excursions (pre-arranged)
• Organized social hours at the end of each day
• Trip preparation packet and check list

They do NOT include the cost of the RV if you are renting one, fuel, food and personal expenses.  When booking your trip ask questions and be sure you know exactly what you are getting for your money.

Although we have not utilized the services of the following companies my research has indicated that they are reputable and reliable.  Do your own research also and see if they offer what you may be looking for.

We are planning to travel to New Zealand to rent motorhomes with another couple in March 2016. Tracks to Adventure no longer seems to exist as a separate entity and that leaves only Fantasy, however their tour includes Australia, not a problem for us but our friends have not shown any interest in that part.

Are you aware of any NZ only caravan packages offered there that we might look into. Web search is daunting as there are so many offers that it is confusing. As an alternative we might consider just doing it the way we travel the US – on our own.

Paul, my husband and I rented RV’s in New Zealand for 6 weeks and traveled both islands on our own. Even though we had never experienced a motorhome before, we found it very delightful. The people there are so very friendly and helpful, and we felt very safe. First of all, Baja & Back is now out of business. Barry Monkman tragically died of a heart attack, & his wife, Vonda, decided not to carry on.

This spring a new company is doing a 71 day tour of Mexico’s west coast as far as Puerto Vallarta. It includes tours of Copper Canyon & much more. Starts Jan 12, 2013. See http://www.mexicorvbuddies.com . The caravan will be escorted by The Green Angels and led by an experienced Wagon Master couple. Since this is the first trip for this company (They have organized caravans in Quebec for 25 years), the price is only $3350 per rig, about 1/2 the cost of other competitors.

Have you ever visited eastern Canada in the Atlantic Provinces in particular Nova Scotia.

I know the folks at Adventure Caravan-Ron and Juanita Khon-the owners.They do a beautiful job of advertising the Atlantic Provinces with their tours.

Everyone in this area of Canada are always welcoming to those folks and any others that visit.

In this area in particular there is a new campground coming to life -Parkville Campground,Noel, Nova Scotia-with very enthusiastic young owners.I am trying to spread the word and be of any assisstance that is possible.

We are a new RV company. This summer we are traveling our proposed route, lining up campgrounds, activities and adventures. In other words, putting together our package. As our website says, we will be covering a specific route in the southern Colorado Rockies and are only interested in small caravans so more personal attention. We will be offering our tours starting in May 2012 and hope to run 5 tours a season.

The Class A RVs can comfortably sleep two adults and up to four children, while the Class C RVs can fit up to seven people. Both classes have a kitchen with a refrigerator, freezer, and an entertainment center featuring an LCD television, DVD player, radio, CD player, and MP3 adapter. (The Class A RVs also have an oven in the kitchen.) Of course, both come equipped with the essentials: air-conditioning, heating, a hot water heater, and a generator. A convenience kit (kitchen utensils, pots, pans, cups, and bowls) and sleeping kit (sheets, blankets, pillows, and towels) are also included.

The rate also includes a national park pass, if needed for the itinerary, and insurance of up to $1 million in damages.

As the pandemic hit last year, RV travel became a popular way to explore the country, with sales hitting record numbers last summer and rentals spiking during peak weeks .

RVshare, the largest peer-to-peer RV rental marketplace in the world, recently released its 2023 Travel Trend Report, which revealed the top destinations for RVshare renters in 2022.

Interestingly, 20 percent of rentals were booked to attend events, such as music festivals, tailgating, and auto and aviation shows. From events to national parks, here are the top RV travel destinations for 2022 according to RVshare insights .

1. Grand Canyon National Park

According to RVshare’s data, 68 percent of RV rental travelers say they’re very or 100 percent likely to stay in an RV for trips to national parks, which is up six percent from last year. Grand Canyon National Park  tops the list of destinations for RVshare travelers, which comes as no surprise as it is one of the most-visited national parks in the United States.

Park campgrounds fill up months in advance, so reservations are strongly recommended. Camping in the park is only allowed in designated sites within designated campgrounds in both the North Rim and South Rim . It is not permitted along roadsides, overlooks, pullouts, trailheads, or other parking areas.

According to NPS , 90 percent of visitors come to the South Rim, which is the Arizona side of the Canyon. It is open year-round and is easier to get to than the North Rim, which is more wild and secluded. Located on the Utah side of the Canyon, the North Rim is closed during winter.

2. The Campsites At Disney’s Fort Wilderness

The Campsites at Disney World’s Fort Wilderness  was one of RVshare’s top five campgrounds in 2020 and was number one in 2021 . It’s easy to see why. What other campground offers horseback riding, canoeing, a swimming pool, and archery?

It also hosts the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue dinner show. Disney expert Seana Beard recommends making reservations for  Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White .

Disney World’s Fort Wilderness offers four types of RV campsites . Rent a golf cart to explore this picturesque backcountry resort’s 750 acres.

3. Las Vegas, Nevada

Between entertainment on the strip , cocktail lounges , dining , and gambling, a Vegas trip can add up quick! Save some dough by camping in one of the great, scenic, amenity-filled RV parks in and just outside of Las Vegas. You could also take a page out of TravelAwaits contributor Kara Williams’s book and park your RV in the parking lot of  Circus Circus Hotel & Casino . For approximately $53 a night, you get an electric hook-up and are within walking distance of attractions and restaurants.

4. Burning Man

Up 10 percent since last year, 63 percent of respondents say they’re “very or 100 percent likely to stay in an RV for multi-day festivals.” RVshare’s top event destination for 2023, Burning Man also made the list of top five events to bring an RV to in 2022 . Camping is your only lodging option at this infamous music festival in the Black Rock Desert. Located a couple of hours from Reno, Burning Man is held the week leading up to and on Labor Day weekend. This year’s theme is ANIMALIA, which celebrates “the animal world and our place in it.” While you’re there, be sure to check out Fly Ranch Geyser .

5. Yosemite National Park

Spectacular granite cliffs, waterfalls, deep valleys, pristine lakes, rushing rivers, gorgeous meadows, giant sequoias, and vast wilderness areas make  Yosemite National Park  one of the most loved and visited national parks in the U.S. Reservations are no longer required to visit Yosemite next summer, but you will need to make reservations if you plan on staying in one of the 10 campgrounds that can accommodate RVs and trailers.

Be ready to boondock — electrical, water, and sewer hookups are not available in Yosemite . However, dump stations with fresh water are available. Additionally, generator use is only allowed during certain times of the day.

6. Ginnie Springs, Florida

Located near Gainesville in High Springs, Florida,  Ginnie Springs Outdoors  is a privately owned park that also made RVshare’s list of top campgrounds in the U.S. in  2020 , 2021 , and the summer of 2022 .

Home to seven crystal-clear springs that stay at a perfect 72 degrees year-round, Ginnie Springs is on 200 wooded acres. Divers are drawn to its extensive underwater cave system. Kayakers, canoers, paddleboarders, tubers, swimmers, and snorkelers take advantage of Ginnie Springs’s ideal water temps.

Reservations are recommended to snag one of the 123 water and electric campsites. There is a dump station, but no sewer hookups.

7. Zion National Park

Springdale, utah.

Zion National Park was one of RVshare’s Top Five National Parks to visit in 2020 and 2021 . Its red sandstone canyons and peaks call to hikers, climbers, and bikers, while the Virgin River that cuts through the park beckons boaters and kayakers.

One of the Mighty Five , Zion is one of Utah’s national parks that simply must be seen via RV. Located in Zion Canyon, Watchman Campground (190 sites, water and electric) is the most popular of the park’s three campgrounds . It is open year-round, while South Campground  (117 sites, no hookups) is closed in the winter. Both are inside the park, allowing for easy access to park offerings such as Night Sky programs hosted by park rangers. All three campgrounds stay full just about every night from mid-March through late November, so be sure to reserve a camping spot!

8. Campland On The Bay

One of RVshare’s top 10 campgrounds of 2021, Campland on the Bay® takes its spot as a top RV travel destination in 2022.

Located on the shores of Mission Bay just a 15-minute drive from downtown San Diego, Campland on the Bay offers waterfront RV camping and activities for all ages. Rent pontoons, jet skis, water skis, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and more to play in the bay. There’s also a marina, so you can bring your own boat.

Catch some rays on the beach, splash around in the pool, or relax in one of the two hot tubs. Rent a bike and pedal around  Pacific Beach  or Mission Bay Park. Other amenities include beach sports, a skatepark, a game room, and a basketball court. You can even build a campfire on the bay!

9. Daytona International Speedway

Just over half of respondents ( 52 percent ) say they’re very or 100 percent likely to stay in an RV for tailgating events. This is up 10 percent compared to 2022. Speaking of last year, NASCAR’s  DAYTONA 500 at the Daytona International Speedway was one of the top five events to bring an RV to in 2022 .

Did you know that you can actually camp  in the speedway’s 180-acre infield, surrounded by the famous 31-degree banked turns? The 65th annual DAYTONA 500 descends upon the World Center of Racing on Sunday, February 19, 2023.

There’s plenty to see and do while you’re in Daytona Beach . ONE DAYTONA is an outdoor shopping mall right across from the racetrack. The speedway is also just a few miles from the Museum of Arts & Sciences (MOAS), one of Central Florida’s largest museums. The beach and its boardwalk are just across the bridge!

10. The Gorge Amphitheatre

George, washington.

Situated near the Columbia River, The Gorge Amphitheatre is just west of George in Central Washington. That’s right, the tiny town’s name is a “humorous homage” to our country’s first president. Referred to as “The Gorge at George,” on occasion, the scenic outdoor concert venue offers spectacular views of the river gorge.

It also offers onsite camping for ticketholders, the night before or the night of the show. Up to six guests are allowed per campsite. RV sites with and without electricity are assigned in order of arrival.

How Timeshare Presentations Earn Me Cheap Travel

The most avid travel hackers often shoot me a skeptical glare when I utter the words “ timeshare presentation ” as a way to get discounted hotel stays and piles of points to use toward future travel.

The deal is pretty simple: receive a heavily discounted hotel or resort stay and other perks in exchange for attending a timeshare presentation — better known as a sales pitch.

The last email offer I received was in March 2023 from Hilton Grand Vacations. It dangled a three-night stay in Las Vegas plus 50,000 Hilton Honors points in exchange for $149 and sitting through a 90-minute talk.

Having attended four timeshare presentations over the last decade, I find that the discounted hotel stay and extra perks — like hotel points and discounted spa treatments or amusement park tickets — are worth my time. All you have to do is attend the presentation and say “no” (sometimes several times) if the timeshare is not right for you.

Here’s how to get nearly free vacations with timeshare presentations.

Determine the value of the promotion, then negotiate

I've successfully negotiated the terms of a timeshare presentation in the past, so I called Hilton to see if it could sweeten the deal with upgrades like more travel rewards points or food and beverage credits.

After reviewing the terms of my promotion — and with some very polite back and forth — I requested an increase to 100,000 points and a waiver on the additional resort fees of $34 per night. After a long wait, the sales representative’s supervisor approved the deal if I accepted it on the spot, which I did.

According to NerdWallet’s valuation , Hilton points are generally worth about 0.5 cent each , giving the 100,000 points an approximate value of $500. The nightly room rate over my travel dates was $249, plus $34 per night in resort fees. That gives this deal a value of over $1,300 in exchange for 90-minutes of my time and the $149 I paid for the package.

Understand the restrictions and limitations

Certain hotels require attending the presentation with a spouse, while others may have specific income requirements. Ask about blackout dates, package expiration dates and any other hidden fees (like those pesky resort fees).

For Hilton, I had to verbally confirm my income was above a certain threshold and attest that I hadn’t participated in another Hilton-based timeshare presentation over the past six months.

Once I purchased the package, Hilton gave me 12 months to use it. After my reservation in Las Vegas was booked, Hilton assigned a set date and time for the timeshare presentation. If you miss it, the company can charge the full cash rate for the stay and revoke any perks offered.

Also be aware that you won't earn hotel points or elite night credits with the host brand for the promotional stay.

Know what to expect at the sales pitch

The pitch usually starts with an introduction to your salesperson and a general video or presentation about the company’s timeshare program. You’ll then be whisked away to an office, where the salesperson asks about your finances and travel habits. You’ll be introduced to a rubric of costs to stay at different tiers of properties — costs that may fluctuate seasonally or during periods of high demand.

Many timeshare companies, even Disney , have transitioned to a points-based system, where you buy points used to make reservations after you’re an “owner,” but be aware these points are independent of the chain’s loyalty program.

Once the salesperson estimates the cost required to live your best timeshare life, they’ll take you on a tour of a model property. You’ll then return to the office and be introduced to the “closer” — the person who ran the numbers and tries to pressure you into signing.

The sales professionals will tug at your emotions with aspirational travel fantasies while making you feel like family. Remember, they are incentivized by commissions to make you buy a timeshare through signing a contract that can last the rest of your life.

Timing the pitch using my phone allowed me to politely tell the salesperson their time was up once the required duration under the promotion elapsed (usually 90 to 120 minutes).

Be in the 'no'

Timeshares are big business, with $10.6 billion in domestic sales in 2023, according to a 2024 study by the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), a trade association for the timeshare industry. For comparison, that’s similar to the annual revenue of Major League Baseball in 2023.

Hospitality companies wouldn’t offer these lucrative promotions unless enough people were buying what they’re selling.

Jason Gamel, president and CEO of ARDA, says that approximately 2 in 10 people decide to buy after a sales presentation. And that purchase, of course, comes with a financial commitment. The average purchase transaction was $24,170 in 2023, according to the ARDA study, with average annual interest rates near 15%.

This amount covers the initial cost to join the timeshare and the financing of the balance but does not include ongoing costs such as membership dues, maintenance fees or other required resort operation expenses.

If you’re not in the market for a timeshare, no sales pitch should persuade you to get one. Before the pitch, think (or talk) through the process of saying “no,” and if you have a spouse who'll be attending, include them in the conversation.

Later, if you change your mind and decide to sign a contract, a state’s rescission laws could allow the contract to be canceled within a certain window after signing — usually between five and 10 business days.

“I think that’s important because it does help people evaluate whether they’re making the right decision for them, and it gives them a very easy way to say no after everything is said and done," says Gamel.

Simply pack up and go

Despite skepticism from my travel-hacking cohorts, timeshare promotions allow me to save money on travel now and earn rewards to use for free travel in the future. The process won’t be for everyone, but if you’re willing to sacrifice a couple of hours and know the power of saying “no,” it could do the same for you.
