Although Upington offers the perfect base to travel from, we offer deliveries and pick-ups all over South Africa for your convenience. Many people even find Upington the perfect starting point for their holiday to Namibia and beyond. Even Botswana is now easily accessible through the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

Eat under the stars, sleep over or enjoy our rich heritage. The area is a refuge for outdoor fanatics and adventurers with unique flora and picturesque scenery all around.

Do you allow pets, must i have a credit card to rent with you.

We are perfectly happy to accept the deposit via an Electronic Transfer.

How long is my quote valid?

Do you accommodate hotel or airport transfers, do i need an international driver license to hire a car, can i extend the validity period of my quote, how do i secure my booking.

Please remember to use your booking number as reference.

Do you accept Diners or American Express credit cards?

We do not accept Diners or American express credit cards, we only accept Visa or MasterCard credit cards.

How do we pay for our rental?

We require a 25% payment to confirm any rental. The 75% balance must be paid two weeks/14 days prior to collection of the vehicle. If you book your vehicle less than two weeks prior to collection we require the full amount for confirmation. However, during the period of the Corona pandemic we recognize the increased uncertainty that COVID-19 may be causing in your own trip planning. To help you book with confidence, we are offering an exceptional cancellation policy: Until the situation has stabilized, we will be offering the option of a 100% refund on all new bookings made after March 15, 2020, for cancellations made more than 7 days prior to a tour.

Why am I calculating 9 days but you are charging/quoting 10 days?

We charge per calendar day meaning each date is a full day’s charge. However, if you drop your vehicle before 10:00 AM, the drop-off day will not be charged.

What is your minimum Driver rental age?

23 Years of age.

What is the minimum rental period?

3 Days is our minimum.

What type of driver’s license do I need?

If you can drive in your country and have a valid unendorsed driver’s license.

What if I need to cancel my booking?

Can i change my booking instead of cancelling, how does the deposit work, how long before i get my deposit back, will the deposit be refunded automatically or is there something i have to do, my friend paid the deposit and i paid the rental – who will get the refund, ask us a question.

When you arrive at Maun International Airport, you will be able to collect your 4WD land cruiser and proceed to drive to your lodge of choice.

Day 4-5: Khwai Concession

Day 2: Kalahari Desert (distance=260 km)

The Kalahari Desert has been deemed the world’s largest sand mass, extending for 900 000 square kilometres. By travelling south after breakfast, you will soon find the red sand of the Kalahari interspersed with semi-arid grassland, shepherd’s trees and acacias. You will most likely find accomodation on a private game reserve, where you will be able to experience the diversity of wildlife found in this region, including oryx, springbok, zebra amongst others.

Day 3-4: Fish River Canyon (distance=430 km)

On day three, you will travel further into the south of the Kalahari. Make sure you visit the quiver tree forest at Keetmanshoop, before settling in at your lodge, close to the Fish River Canyon. On day four, after breakfast, travel a short distance to the majestic Fish River Canyon.  The Fish River Canyon is Namibia’s longest interior river and is the second most visited tourist attraction in Namibia.

Day 5: Lűderitz (distance=420 km)

Your journey will continue past Aus and down the vast savannahs of the Great Escarpment to Lűderitz. On this route, you’re likely to spot the wild horses of the Namib. Once you arrive in Lűderitz, you will enjoy a scenic drive to Diaz Point, which marks the site where Bartolomeu Dias landed in 1488.

Day 6: Helmeringhausen (distance=270 km)

After breakfast, you will be able to explore the ghost town of Kolmanskop, which is the remnant of a once bustling diamond town that flourished in the year 1908-1950. Continuing north, your next stop is located on a densely vegetated area, along the foot of the Tiras Mountain.

Day 7: Sossusvlei (distance= 240 km)

Day 8: Sossusvlei (distance=200 km)

Wake up early to catch the sunrise over the Namib Desert and its vast plains. You will be able to explore the majestic Namib dunes while you’re here. When leaving your lodge, stop at Sesriem Canyon. This canyon is a 30 metre deep gorge eroded into the desert floor, caused by the Tsauchab river.

Day 9-10: Swakopmund (distance=350 km)

After breakfast, travel through the rugged passed and via the Welwitschia plains and the Moon landscape to Swakopmund. Swakopmund is known for being Namibia’s playground.  The town is situated between the Namib Desert and the cold Atlantic Ocean, and has an array of activities to offer travellers who are passing through.

Day 11: Erongo Region (distance=340 km)

Once you depart from the coastal town of Swakopmund, travel east towards the Erongo Mountain Range. You will travel past Spitzkoppe and have the opportunity to visit the San community who live in that area. Day 13: Etosha National Park (distance=210 km)

On this route you have the option of visiting a traditional Himba village and meet the indigenous people. The Himba are very traditional and have a strong sense of values and culture. Further north you will find the Etosha National Park, which is home to over 114 different animal and 340 different bird species.

Day 16: Central Namibia (distance=380 km)

Day 6-7: Kruger National Park to Kapama Private Game Reserve

Travel north, to the Kapama lodge. Kapama is next to the Kruger National Park. Here, you will be able to enjoy game drives and luxury leisure time. We recommend spending two nights at this lodge.

Day 8: Kapama Private Game Reserve to Tzaneen

After breakfast, leave Kapama and travel to Tzaneen. On your way, visit the ancient Modjadji Cycad Forest and Sapekoe Tea Estate.

Day 9: Tzaneen to Sandton

Spend the last night in Sandton, Johannesburg. Sandton is central and you will have access to everything you need in the vicinity.

Your journey starts here and leads you deeper south into the heart of the Namib Desert, where you’ll find the most awe-inspiring landscapes and dunes. Once you arrive at your lodge, near the entrance to Sesriem, the remainder of your day can be spent at leisure, a late afternoon walk or you could take part in the optional activities offered by your lodge.

Day 2: Sossusvlei (distance=360 km)

After breakfast, travel through the Namib Naukluft Park to the coastal town of Swakopmund, situated between the Namib Desert and the Atlantic Ocean. Here, you can visit the Welwitschia plains and the moon landscapes surrounding it. Swakopmund has various adventure activities on offer, including scenic flights, dolphin cruises, quad biking, dune-boarding or parasailing.

Day 3-4: Fish River Canyon

We’ve included a half day morning hike into the program this morning so that you can experience a bit of this iconic area.

Day 4: Horse Country

Today you continue going north to the history filled town of Aus. It’s a tiny town filled with history, and on walks in the area you are still able to see evidence of the war that took place between the Germans and the South African national forces. There is also remnants of a Prisoner of War camp.

Accommodation is arranged for you at Klein-Aus Desert Horse Inn, which is located just outside the town on the side of a hill, where all the chalets have views of the changing Namibian landscape.

Day 5: Damaraland (distance=360 km)

On your way to Damaraland you will be able to visit the largest fur seal colony in southern Africa at Cape Cross. The lodge is situated in the heart of the Damaraland, which is surrounded by wildlife.

Day 6: Etosha National Park (distance=300 km)

After breakfast, visit the National Heritage Site, Twyfelfontein and an open air art gallery that boasts over 2 500 different Bushman rock engravings and rock paintings. Take a worthwhile detour on your way to the Etosha National Park, here you can visit a traditional Himba village and meet the Himba people.

Day 7-8: Etosha National Park (distance=300 km)

Etosha National Park is best enjoyed in the early morning, where your time will be devoted to the abundant wildlife found here. Within the park, is a parched salt desert known as the Etosha Pan, which is home to the elephant, rhino, leopard and lion. The park’s waterholes are home to a diversity of animal and bird species.  The next day will be entirely dedicated to extensive game viewing experiences.

Day 9: Central Namibia (distance=380 km)

After breakfast, travel back to the south into the main cattle farming region of Namibia, where your lodge is situated. The remainder of your day is spent at leisure alongside the pool or deck.

Day 10: Departure (distance=490 km)

After breakfast, travel back through Okahandja to the capital city of Windhoek.  If time permits, stop at the local favorite wood carvers market in Okahandja or the craft market in main street.

Our 4×4 Safari Vehicle are well maintained and reliable. At Sunworld Safaris we OWN approximately 70 custom-built 4×4 safari vehicles and have always adhered to the slogan: “Create Your own safari” Hire one of our custom SAFARI-BUILT Landcruiser on A CHAUFFEUR-DRIVEN basis! At Sunworld Safaris we offer 4×4 safari vehicles on a chauffeur-driven or self-drive basis!

24hour Backup

Well maintained, emergency radio, eco friendly, professional guide, our 4x4 safari vehicle, choose from, landcruiser fleet, since 1997 we have been renting out custom built, safari accessorized 4x4 vehicles, suitable for the east african road terrain. all cars are maintained within our in-house workshop, offering excellent reliability and immediate back up-/recovery service in case of a mechanical breakdown., toyota landcruiser - custom safari built, photographically adapted landcruiser, luxury roof top camper & roof top camping, toyota prado, toyota landcruiser - with wheelchair access, interested in a self drive vehicle.

We usually require the following information from you when you hire a vehicle from us.

1. Car Hire Dates/ Number of Days

2. Number of Persons in the vehicle

3. Who will be driving the vehicle ?

4. Vehicle Pick up and Drop off Location

5. Brief Itinerary of where you will be travelling

For  SELF DRIVE  hire, kindly note that there is an excess liability of  USD. 3,500.00  applicable for the vehicle.  This is just a precautionary measure we take in case our vehicle is damaged, involved in an accident, or stolen while in a client’s possession.  Windscreen & tyres are not covered and in case of damage this would be payable extra. (This is applicable to the excess liability waiver as well).  

We shall run your  CREDIT / DEBIT card  upon delivery of the vehicle, to hold the amount.

The excess liability of  USD. 3,500.00  will  only  be charged if the vehicle is stolen or in case of an accident and the vehicle is damaged. Otherwise, we only charge the actual damage costs  IF ANY.  As earlier advised, this is just a precautionary measure we take in case our vehicle is damaged, involved in an accident, or stolen while in a client’s possession.  Should there be no loss / damage of the vehicle, then no charges to apply.

You also have the OPTION of foregoing the excess liability by purchasing an excess liability waiver insurance. Pls. find these costs below:

3 – 11 DAYS: 35.00 per day

12 – 22 DAYS:  25.00 per day

23 days or more:  15.00 per day

FUEL  – we will provide the vehicle FULL TANK and kindly request the client to return it Full Tank in  Nairobi . Otherwise a full tank is chargeable. The land cruiser has two tanks each with a capacity of 90 litres.

Upon handing over of the vehicle you will receive a copy of the car hire agreement that you have signed and a copy will be handed over to you.

FOR ROOF TOP CAMPING: a deposit fee of USD. 200 applies for the equipment rented. Should there be no damage / loss to the equipment, this deposit is REFUNDED upon return of the equipment. This fee can be paid in cash or by credit card upon hand over of the vehicle. The refund will be given upon return of the vehicle IF all items are returned in proper condition.
