Sightseeing:

With nearly four million people, Busan is South Korea's second largest city and the country's largest seaport. This gives the city an international flair, with sailors from around the world trooping through and, these days, more than a few tourists (mostly from China, Japan, and Russia) too.

Beomeo-sa Temple , subway Beomeosa. One of Korea's Great 5 Temples, this large temple complex is located up in the mountains, seemingly much further away from the big city than the few kilometers it is.

Taejongdae is one of the famous tourist attractions in Pusan, with its white lighthouse overlooking the green sea. Many people enjoy eating fresh raw fish on the rocky shore, taking a boat around the Olyuk ('five or six') Islands, and seeing the famous 'Suicide Rock.' When the weather is nice, Daema Island can be seen in the distance, 56 km away. The scene from the observation deck is beautiful and the white lighthouse together with the green sea looks very exotic. The walk from the entrance to the lighthouse is quite long. However, a shuttle bus runs from the shops.

Tours Excursions Transportation:

Busan Hop on/off tour. The Haeundae route is every 30 minutes while the Taejongdae route is every 40 minutes.

The Taejongdae route has a stop near the cruise terminal - simply walk out the port gates and turn left towards the Maritime Museum. Walk slightly uphill behind the building until you reach the main road and the HOHO stop is straight ahead. By subway

The three lines of the Busan Subway connect the bus terminals and nearly all sights of interest together. Rides are W1,100 or 1,300 depending on distance (hang onto your ticket until you exit), and both signage and announcements are in English so finding your way is easy.

There are plenty of taxis prowling the streets of Busan. Regular taxi flag drop is W1800 for the first two kilometers, then the meter starts ticking at W100 for each 169m. Deluxe taxis (black and red) charge W4200 for the first 3 km and then W200 for each 199m.

It is certainly doable to tour the area independently as it is quite safe and Koreans are very friendly. For best results, you should have some print-outs of where you want the taxi to take you.

Busan as a whole is far too large to walk around, but some areas like Gwangalli Beach and Yongdusan Park are best covered on foot.

Most Korean cities offer regularly scheduled city bus tours that provide visitors with a convenient and affordable way to take a closer look at the city. These tours often provide visitors the opportunity to get on and off the bus at the attractions they wish to see .

It pays to compare your cruise line excursions : Tours etc. offered by GetYourGuide and by Viator .

Nearby Places:

Shopping and food.

The International Market in the vicinity of Biff Square, where the shuttle drops you off. Do not get lost, this is a large area of small streets!

Ja-galchi Fish Market is also close to the shuttle stop. If you're in Busan, then you must visit Jagalchi Fish Market, which Busan is famous for. This market displays freshly caught fish and various other sea creatures that are still alive.

The currency of South Korea is the won. 1 US$= approx 1000 won.

ATM are ubiquitous, but most Korean ATMs don't accept foreign cards, only special Global ATMs do. These can be found at airports and some subway stations in major cities, as well as in many Family Mart convenience stores, so stock up before heading to the countryside. Credit card acceptance, on the other hand, is very good, and all but the very cheapest restaurants and motels will take Visa and Mastercard.

Currency Converter

Communication:

Korean. English is fairly well spoken, especially by the younger generation. They surely like to practice their skills on English speaking tourists.

South Korea is the world's most wired country and Cafes which offer free WiFi for customers, known as PC bang, are ubiquitous through the country. Most coffee shops have WiFi.

The emergency number for police is 112

Cruises from/to Busan (Kyongju), South Korea

Busan (kyongju), south korea cruise port.

Whether you call it Pusan or Busan, you’ll have an incredible experience visiting the city. Located at the southern tip of South Korea, Pusan is the nation’s second largest city. While this is a big city, it offers more natural beauty than Seoul, the capital. Pusan has beaches, hot springs and beautiful parks. If you are looking for more of a city feel, Pusan delivers on that as well. You’ll find lots of shopping complexes and tall buildings, and Pusan is South Korea’s hub for trading and its port is the fifth biggest in the world. If you are cruising to Pusan, here are a few things to see and do:

  • You don’t have to be hungry to enjoy the Jagalchi Fish Market. Sit back and watch the fish get delivered and assorted, and then observe the locals looking for the freshest specimens – the whole process is a show on its own.
  • Tour the Pusan Port and learn about all the imports and exports that make their way to and from Pusan. Your tour shows you just how significant this port is to South Korea and the world.
  • For some time in the great outdoors, visit Taejongdae Park. This park is along the shoreline and offers beautiful views of the coast. This park is also famous for its white lighthouse and the fact that ancient kings used this park for archery practice.
  • Take a strawberry milk bath at the Hurshimchung Spa where there are lots of different pools at different temperatures, along with heated igloos. It’s a great place to unwind.

busan port international passenger terminal cruise terminal

Busan Port International Passenger Terminal was a core construction project taken on by the Busan Port (North Port) redevelopment team. With the iconic shape of ocean waves, the terminal was designed to symbolize the role Busan has as a maritime gateway city and to create a world-class tourist attraction.

The facility consists of five-story buildings on a total area of 92,945 sq.m. (over 1 million sq.ft.). The terminal complex is located between Pier 3 and Pier 4. The new terminal has annual cruise passenger capacity of 2,78 million. It has dedicated facilities for immigration, customs, quarantine, 1 duty-free shop, 1 conference hall (multi-purpose room), waiting hall, cruise companies offices, convenience facilities, freight warehouse, gangways, employees rest area.  Project by PP+H with Chung Rho as Design Principal

On Celebrity Millennium in May with a port stop in Busan, South Korea. Is it possible to do Busan on your own? Is there a shuttle bus at the port and, if there is, where does it take you?

The ship will dock at Busan Port International Passenger Terminal Cruise Terminal. Compliment shuttle will drop off at the main building (2500 feet away). Busan metro is nearby, Busan City Tour Bus (BUTI) Station is near the The Korean Teachers' Credit Union (KTCU) Building.

We took a ship excursion which was interesting to a Buddhist Temple which is nestled on a mountainside surrounded by wisteria woods, Beomosa Temple and then to the Gukje Market and Jagalchi Fish Market.  The fish market was the highlight - we saw a dry market and then a wet market which was largest fish market we have seen.

thehowlingroad

We just came back from Busan; we opted for a private tour (just the family and a licensed guide with his own car). There are sections of Busan that are doable on your own and attractions that are accessible via the subway network or walkable from the port (BIFF Square/International Market and Jagalchi Seafood Market come to mind), but some of the most popular attractions aren't, such as the Gamcheon Cultural Village and Haedong Yonggungsa (a Buddhist temple nestled on a cliffside facing the sea). My advice is to pinpoint what you want to see first and then research if those places are DIY-possible, or if it'll be less of a hassle to book a guide with transport for the day.

I am posting from the Millennium.  We were at Busan three days ago.  The complimentary shuttle ran continuously from the pier to a Busan Subway Station.  Chinatown was close so apparently a number folks visited Chinatown.

My thanks to everyone who has taken the trouble to respond to my query. That's very helpful.

How easy is it to get a local guide or taxi available when you disembark if we have not pre arranged any tours?

9 hours ago, XSYTD said: How easy is it to get a local guide or taxi available when you disembark if we have not pre arranged any tours?

Lots of taxi drivers will congregate right outside the port terminal and all of them will be advertising some sort of tour or all-day transportation for a flat rate. Can't guarantee the quality of said tours, since we pre-arranged ours, but make sure to discuss the price before you get into the vehicle.

Thank you for your response!

Good Morning,

You have helped me with information on other boards regarding the Best of Japan on Millennium.  Is it possible to go to Haedong Yonggungsa Temple on our own from the Busan cruise port?  Any info will be appreciated & Happy Canada Day  🇨🇦

The distance between Busan cruise port and Haedong Yoggungsa is 9 miles.

Ship will dock at Busan Port International Passenger Terminal Cruise Terminal wharf, port shuttle drop off at the terminal main building. Busan Station is across the terminal building.

Taxi: From cruise terminal taxi stand, 40-45 min taxi ride to  Haedong Yonggungs, by far the quickest way to reach the temple.

Metro: From Busan station take the Orange Line metro towards Choryang Station and then hop off at Busan National University of Education Station. Walk to Donghae line (Blue) and take the metro until you arrive at OSIRIA station. 45 min travel.

From OSIRIA Station: (Donghae Line, Exit 1) Walk : Alight from the station and expect a 30+ minute walk, following the signs and trails of tourists up the hill to Haedong Yonggungsa.

Bus : Turn left upon exit. Walk towards the main road in front and turn right to the bus stop. 1 min walk. Take Bus# 1001 / 139. 4 mins. Get off at Yonggungsa Temple 용궁사 | National Institute of Fisheries Science 국립수산과학원 stop. Walk 40m in the direction as the bus moving off, turn right onto Yonggung-gil and walk all the way to temple. 12 mins walk.

Taxi : Take the taxi from the taxi stand in front of the exit. 6 mins taxi ride.

Not all Busan taxi drivers speak English, here are the addresses in Korea for them.

W 🤩 W this is amazing! Thank you! Have you been to the temple before? It looks like it is worth the visit.

I was there last September. Personal comment: an overrated tourist attraction, no English display and a lot of walking inside the complex (up and down stairs), very slippery when wet and no handrails. You can done in 30 min, but FREE admission 😜 . Join a local tour and having a Korean BBQ lunch is wiser choice.

Thanks

Cabo Rojo-Pedernales (Dominicana)

Cruise port schedule, live map, terminals, news.

Cabo Rojo-Pedernales cruise port

Region Bahamas - Caribbean - Bermuda

Local Time 2024-09-06 10:11

Port Cabo Rojo-Pedernales cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Cabo Rojo-Pedernales, Dominicana. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Port Cabo Rojo is in Dominicana's Pedernales province. The Port is private and owned by Alcoa Corporation (1888-founded, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania USA ). Alcoa (Aluminum Corporation of America) uses Puerto de Cabo Rojo for exporting bauxite (rock with a high aluminum content) and limestone.

The Port's cargo terminal is currently operated by Cementos Andino SA (1998-founded Colombian company) which exports cement clinker and concrete, as well as bauxite and limestone.

On June 1, 2022, officially started the construction works on Cabo Rojo Cruise Port (~US$100 million project). The port was completed in December 2023 (Phase 1) and officially inaugurated on January 4, 2024. The project includes building two docking facilities/piers, a modern passenger terminal, a premium yacht marina, a large water park.

When fully completed, Cabo Rojo Cruise Port has projected annual capacity to receive/handle up to 1 million cruise tourists.

The project's Phase I (June 2022 thru December 2023) included building two piers and the cruise terminal. Phase II (planned for completion in 2024-Q2) includes the expansion of the terminal, adding two more cruise piers and a pier dedicated to fishing boats.

The cruise port's annual passenger capacity is around 1 million, targeting predominantly international tourists.

Cabo Rojo cruise port is managed by APORDOM (Dominican Port Authority) and ITM Group (based in Cancun Mexico ). ITM also operates the cruise ports Costa Maya (Yucatan, Quintana Roo Mexico) and Taino Bay/Puerto Plata (Dominicana) . According to ITM, Cabo Rojo's cruise shipping activities could generate annually between US$120-150 million.

Cabo Rojo cruise port project's cost was estimated at ~RD$ 7,1 billion (Dominican pesos/~USD 126 million) and the entire money (a private investment) was provided via a loan from Banco Central de la Republica Dominicana (the country's Central Bank). Reportedly, the project was expected to generate 5000+ local jobs (direct and indirect) thus boosting Pedernales province's economy.

In 2022, Dominican Republic's investments in the Pedernales region were ~US$80-90M, and an additional ~US$150-200M was invested in 2023. The Government's RD$ 15B (~USD 270M) development plan included the construction of three coastal hotels near the cruise port (combined capacity 1600 rooms), building six more hotels, an advanced wastewater treatment plant, supporting infrastructure, internal roads, as well as repairs and expansion of the Barahona Enriquillo Coastal Highway and a new airport (cost ~US$70M).

In February 2023, NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line included Cabo Rojo Pedernales in its 2024 schedule as a new Caribbean destination. NCL's itineraries that visited Cabo Rojo in 2024 (January, March, April) were roundtrips from La Romana (Dominicana) and scheduled for the Norwegian Sky ship . In January 2025 NCL's ship Norwegian Jewel was also listed in Cabo Rojo Port's schedule. Norwegian Sky's 14-day " Panama Canal : Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic" itinerary (Jan 3-17) was a roundtrip from Tampa Florida USA . The Panama Canal segment was a partial transit ( Gatun Lake cruising ).

In 2023, the Dominican Republic also made investments in upgrades to Port Samana , which is often visited by ships of NCL-Norwegian and RCI-Royal Caribbean International .

The road distance from Cabo Rojo Port to Pedernales City is approx 20 km / 12 mi. Pedernales is on the Dominicana-Haiti border and has a border crossing to Anse-a-Pitres. The municipality's economy is based on agriculture (beans, coffee), beef cattle and goats, mining (bauxite), commercial fishing (lobster, lambi) and domestic tourism. The most visited tourist destinations are Bahia de las Aguilas Beach and Sierra de Bahoruco National Park, both a short distance from Pedernales.

Cabo Rojo Airport is approx 16 km / 10 mi southeast of Pedernales City (population around 30,000). The airport serves only domestic flights.

Cabo Rojo (translated Cape Red) signifies both the cape and the beach (Playa Cabo Rojo). This part of Dominicana is known for its bauxite mines, pristine turquoise waters and scenic white-sand beaches, the most popular of which are Cabo Rojo and Bahia de las Aguilas (8-km/5-mi long beach).

Dominican Republic's Cabo Rojo has namesakes in Mexico's Veracruz state (a sand barrier approx 55 km / 34 mi south of Tampico, Tamaulipas, that encloses Laguna de Tamiahua) and Puerto Rico (a city and municipality part of the San German-Cabo Rojo metro area).

Cabo Rojo-Pedernales cruise terminal

When inaugurated (Dec 2023), Puerto Cabo Rojo will have only one floating pier plus several anchorage areas.

When fully completed, the cruise port will have one large concrete piers with four docks/berthing positions (two on each pier) with capacity to accommodate four large ships simultaneously. Another fixed pier will serve fishing vessels.

Cruise Terminal's facilities include a passenger reception hall, aquapark, interactive play zone, outdoor playgrounds for kids, recreational and commercial facilities (including entertainment venues, shops, wellness complex), a large-capacity restaurant, a boutique hotel and an exclusive beach area.

Cabo Rojo's first cruise ship is currently scheduled to dock on December 14th (2023).

The Port of Busan is located at the mouth of the Naktong River in South Korea. It is the fifth busiest container port in the world and the largest transhipment port in north-east Asia. The port was the tenth busiest port in terms of total tonnage and the sixth busiest in terms of 20-foot TEUs of containerised cargo in 2007, as reported by American Association of Port Authorities.

Apart from Jeju City, the Port of Busan was the only city that was not occupied by North Korea during the Korean War (1950-1953). The Port of Busan became a self-governing city after the end of the Korean War. The city has become home for major industries including shipbuilding, automobiles, steel, electronics, chemicals, ceramics and paper.

The Port of Busan is developed, managed and operated by the Busan Port Authority (BPA) which was established in January 2004. The BPA has made it its aim to transform the Port of Busan into a world-class port.

Busan New Port construction

In 1997, the Ministry of Marine and Fisheries (MOMAF) decided to construct a new port 20km west of Busan to alleviate cargo congestion. It was decided to develop a new port, namely Busan New Port, in two phases. Phase one was carried out by a consortium of 11 Korean contractors led by Samsung.

A project for constructing 1.49km of breakwater and 600m of berth was started in October 1997. The project was completed in December 2002 at an investment of KRW123.3bn. Dredging soil ground revetment construction, divided into two construction areas i.e. construction area one and two, were started in September 1999 and May 2000 respectively. Construction area one, involving 8,916m of revetment, 23m of breakwater and 930m of bridge, was completed in November 2004 at an investment of KRW251.3bn. Construction area two, involving 7,401m of revetment was completed in 2004 at an investment of KRW245.8bn.

Construction of the connecting pier, multi-purpose wharf, and entrance passage was started in December 2002.

The connecting pier and multi-purpose wharf project was finished in 2006 at a cost of KRW80bn.

It involved construction of 300m of connecting pier and 400m of multi-purposed pier. For the entrance passage project, 3.76km of entrance passage and 0.46km of adjacent road were constructed. The project was completed in October 2005 at a cost of KRW109.2bn.

Phase 2-3 of the Busan New Port (BNP2-3) officially commenced in January 2012. BNP2-3 is a container terminal with a capacity to handle 2.7 million TEUs annually. It is spread over an area of 840,000m2 and includes four 50,000t berths.

Construction of the terminal commenced in January 2008 and completed in December 2011 at a cost of KRW865bn. It will be maintained and operated by BNCT Co., Ltd for 29 years and three months. Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries completed a 38 rail-mounted crane project for Phase 2-3 in August 2011.

Port facilities

The Busan Port has four fully equipped modern ports – North Port, South Port, Gamcheon Port and Dadaepo Port – an international passenger terminal and six container terminals. The port is facilitated by 26.8km of quay wall, allowing it to berth 169 vessels simultaneously and handle cargo of 91 million tons per annum.

North Port provides cargo and passenger handling facilities. Opened in 1978, the International Passenger Terminal can handle both passengers and cargo. With a length of 460m and alongside depths ranging from one to 8.6m, the terminal’s quay can simultaneously berth one 10,000t, one 3,000t, and two 200t vessels. It is also capable of handling 318,000t of cargo.

South Port is built in area of 90,000m² and has 4,144m of quay length and 400m breakwater. The port houses Busan Cooperative Fish Market which handles 30% of the total marine volume. It is also considered as the largest fishing base in Korea.

Built over an area of 153ha, the Gamcheon Port was developed to supplement the North Port and handle increasing cargo volumes at the Port of Busan. The Gamcheon port has pier processing functions exclusively for marine products and coastal freight.

Dadaepo Port is located in the west of Busan Port and deals mainly with coastal catches. The Dadaepo port will be further developed as an environmental-friendly port. It has 1.2km of breakwater and 593m of revetment.

The quay of the port can berth nine vessels.

Gamman container terminal is built over an area of 750,000m² and is operated by four ship carriers – Global Enterprises, Hanjin Shipping, Korea Express and a foreign company, Hutchison Korea Terminal Ltd. The terminal is equipped with modern container-handling equipment. Quay wall length of the terminal is 1,400m with berthing capacity for four 50,000t vessels. Annual handling capacity of the terminal is 1,280,000TEUs.

Opened in June 1991, the Sinseondae container terminal is equipped with advanced loading / unloading equipment such as high speed container cranes capable of handling post-panamax container ships. The terminal is operated by Busan East Container Terminal Company Limited. Facilities include a quay length of 1,200m and berthing capacity of four 50,000t vessels. Annual handling capacity of the terminal is 1,280,000TEUs.

Singamman container terminal was opened in April 2002 and is operated by Dongbu Pusan Container Terminal Company Limited (DPCT). Its quay length of 826m is capable of berthing two 50,000t vessels and one 5,000t vessel. Built over an area of 308,000m², the terminal has annual handling capacity of 650,000TEUs.

Operating since 1978, the Coastal Ferry Terminal has a quay length of 480.4m with alongside depths ranging from 6m to 8m. Operated by Dongbu Corporation Global Enterprise Limited, the Central Port has a quay length of 646m with alongside depth of 9m.

Port safety

In the wake of the 9/11 attacks in the United States, the port authorities have implemented the International Ship and Port Facility Code (ISPS Code) to heighten the security of ships and port facilities.

Busan port throughput

The Port of Busan handles nearly 40% of the country’s total marine cargo, 80% of its container cargo, and 42% of national fisheries production. The port handles nearly 130 vessels every day.

Total containerised cargo handled by the port in 2007 was 13.3 million TEUs. In addition, the port also handled refrigerated goods of and hazardous goods of nearly 365,000 TEUs. Other containerised cargoes handled during the same year were fertilisers, meat, scrap metal, petroleum and other gases, crude petroleum, coal, leather, fats and oils, iron ore, rough wood, natural sand, milling industry products, and sugar.

The port handled 13.426 million TEUs of container cargo in 2008, which was then the fifth highest annual cargo haul in the world. In July 2010, the port reported a 21.7% year-on-year rise in container cargo throughput. The port handled a total of 1.23 million TEUs of containerised cargo in July 2010.
