Coors Brewery Tour – Golden

The largest single brewery in the world, Coors Brewing Company, is located in downtown Golden. Tours and tastings are offered year-round and are open to guests of all ages as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Explore a live working factory where every phase of the beer-making process is observed. The tours cost a fee and are self-guided with headsets available. There are learning stations around with pre-recorded descriptions. Reservations are required for all guests.

Hailing from Prussia, Adolph Coors, and Jacob Schueler established the brewery in Golden in 1873. The mountain on the Coors can is based on a Rocky Mountain peak in southwest Colorado.

Touring the Coors Brewery in Golden

There are two types of tours: self-guided (year-long) and guided tours (seasonally). The traditional 30-minute self-guided tour has educational stations and individual headsets. You get to enjoy a complimentary sample and three 10 oz beers afterward. During slower months, a live tour is given and they run for about 30 minutes.

You can also go on the Sampling-only tour where you go straight to the tasting room and try three complimentary beers. This is often what the locals do and you are free to partake in this tour daily. Enjoy some of Coors’s classic, seasonal, and even test-market beers. The whole operation lasts 1 – 1.5 hours including the shuttle, tour, and beer tastings. Drinking time may vary.

Getting There

Parking for the tour is located at 13th and Ford Streets, one block from the brewery. A free shuttle takes you downtown to the Coors factory and the driver usually tells you about the city of Golden on the way.

Tours and imbibing at the bar get busy during peak season, so plan weekdays and off-peak times when possible.

As a Minnesotan, and one from the land of sky blue waters, it’s sacrilegious for me to claim my love of the beer which is born in the Rocky Mountains — Coors Light. But, I unabashedly continue to order my silver bullets and after a visit to the Coors Brewery in Golden, Colorado, I am even more of a patron today.

Tours are about $20 per person. Check the website for hours. You can make reservations online or over the phone. It’s really better than I had anticipated and I think you’ll have fun, too!

Booking Reservations for a Coors Brewery Tour

The first and most commendable thing I noticed when I booked my brewery tour (over the phone) was the tour booker told us we’d need to present ID and vaccination card upon check in. After traveling extensively in LA this summer and fall, I had been waiting for the time I’d have to pull out my vax card, but it never came. Here, we did get carded for both age and vaccination. The information upfront was extremely helpful for planning.

If you have a larger group, book NOW. Do not wait! Luckily, there were only two of us, and we were super flexible, so we were able to find a two-person slot. Otherwise, it was booked out for a few weeks. That was in April. It will only get worse with tourist season underway.

New Tour, Different Flow

There are only about a dozen patrons on each Coors Brewery tour. A tour guide is with you at all times and tours last about an hour. You get three 8 oz. beers throughout the tour (if you are legal to drink, children are allowed on tour, but are given a different bracelet to designate them as underage.) The beers are perfectly paced with the information and duration of the tour.

Bonus: You get to keep the recycled Coors cups from your experience as fun souvenirs.

This is a different model than previous tours, so if you’ve done it before and didn’t’ love the experience, try it again. This was really a GREAT date for an afternoon of fun. Everything is streamlined and clean and the pace is perfect.

Coors Brewery Tours are Perfect for an Afternoon Date

We weren’t sure that we wanted to do a Coors brewery tour. After a weekend in Denver and the surrounding cities, trekking all over the front country and into the Rockies, we agreed this was one of the most carefree and simple fun memories we made. If you’re a beer enthusiast, this is a great time. Lots of bite-size history tidbits and sips of the cold, fresh beer made a great date! The beer is made with Colorado Rocky Mountain water. They keep it local, proudly. (Don’t worry: I asked–it’s NOT made from the stream on location.)

If you ARE coming from Denver, before you enjoy the tour, enjoy this amazing street taco joint we found which sets up the afternoon for success! Golden is a short drive from Denver (about 40 minutes from the Denver International Airport), but it’s worth the trip to experience the Coors brewery tour.

There a few across from the parking lot, walking distance. I believe with your coors tickets some offer a discount. They give you names/lust of which ones will during your visit.

So you do not have to be 21 in order to participate in the tour and everything?

Under 21 is allowed but they have to be accompanied by someone of age (for example kids with parents).

What a great tour. Be sure to reserve this coors factory tour 25 days in advance, and there are certain days of the week that it's opened. I never knew the history behind the coors name, so that was neat to find out. Please leave your belongings in the car as there's no lockers and won't allow you to bring any bags inside. I did see people bring in small wallet sized bags, and those were allowed. Food isn't served, so just eat something beforehand. They do serve water and soft drinks for those who don't drink alcohol. They do give you 3 beers to sample that are made by the coors brand. The first one is either a banquet or coors light beer. The second and third are whatever they have on draft. Just know that if you don't have a reservation for the tour, you can still go to the store and get the samplings for $10.

It was okay. It cost more to uber from downtown to where the factory was than the actual tickets, and when you factor in the tour only lasting around 20 minutes, it didn't feel like it was worth it. It was also hard to hear our tour guide as he wasn't wearing a microphone so when he turned towards stuff to talk about it you couldn't hear him. They give you 3 tasting samples on the tour which was the best part. Can't say I'd do it again.

Came here with my husband, brother, and toddler to the tasting room portion of the brewery. We got to drink 3 beers of our choice and the ladies working there were so sweet and nice! They offered a soda to my daughter. Plenty of seating inside with a gift shop as well!

This tour should be on everyone's bucket list who is visiting Colorado! I recommend booking your tour at least a few weeks in advance, as tickets sometimes can be hard to come by. First off, everyone that we interacted with during the tour was extremely kind and knowledgeable. The tour starts off with a shuttle ride from the parking lot to the factory. During the factory tour, you get a few tastings along the way. The tour guide also gave us a lot of great fun facts about how Coors is made. You can truly taste the freshness when you get a Coors directly from the source. The tour ends with a few additional tastings, and there is a great variety to choose from!

This was fun. We had a friend contact us last minute with some tickets. It had literally been over a decade since we had last gone on the tour. It always seems when you live close to something, you don't think to go there. Our tour guide, Jesse, was enthusiastic and informative. I appreciated the fact that when presented with a question, if he did not know the answer, he went and found out the answer. He said he is constantly learning more. It would have been neat to see the canning line in motion, but it was down at the time we came through. Seeing the mass production equipment and process was fascinating though. At the end we were able to have three tastes in their tasting room. Since Colorado Native is only brewed in and for Colorado, I needed to try those varieties. I had the IPA, Pilsner and the Amber. I also tried a splash of their Palisade Peach Sour. Very peachy! This is still a fun activity that I would recommend to folks visiting from out of town.

First time here. We didn't plan on it, so we missed out on the factory tour. Not a big fan of giant corporate beer, but it wasn't half bad. The "free" tastings are very diverse, considering how many beers they make. I do appreciate that they honor the military. Every employee we ran into was extremely nice. They make sure that you have a great experience. May have to come back and do the tour.

Neat place to tour or sample. Be advised, you MUST make reservations to tour the factory about two weeks in advance and less than a day for sampling. You park in a parking lot near the brewery and check in with the staff there, get in a designated line then onto a mini bus. Very much worth doing if in the Golden area.

I stayed up all night to book our tour for June 17th. We have 8 in our party. Only openings for 3 people were available. We were aware Mondays were limited. But not to that extent. Why midnight? The tour website and reservation process is beyond any excuse. they don don't follow their own rule. the date jumped from June 17th back to May 24th. My wife has been looking forward to this tour for years. Very disappointe.

We didn't officially take the tour yet. However, growing up everyone around me drank Coors Light. Including myself when I was of age to officially drink. So this was a must stop for me. I never imagined the place would be so damn large, that the chances of getting closer were impossible. Next time we will book ahead to do the tour.

Super fun brewery tour to do if you're in Golden, passing through or just love Coors and want to do something fun and learn about the history of Coors! Would be great for a date night activity or a group of friends! Our tour guide, Summer, was a lot of fun and knew her stuff! She answered questions and interacted with everyone in the tour which made it not only educational but really fun. There really was so much to learn about the history and evolution of Coors. There was 3 tastings throughout which is obviously a bonus! The tour ended in a gift shop where you could buy clothing apparel and other gifts and souvenirs! I would definitely do it again in the future!

Coors Brewery Tour in Golden

Brewery tours are offered Friday, Saturday & Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The tour is now $20 for adults 21+ (with valid ID), those 3 to 20 are $10 , active duty or veterans with military ID are also $10 .

Visitors who are 21 years and older, with a valid government issued ID, receive three samples in branded recyclable aluminum cups that you can take home. Non-alcoholic beverages also are available.

Reservations are required and can be made online . Groups sizes will be limited.

Tours begin in the southeast corner of the visitor parking lot at 13th & Ford St.

Tours are not held on holidays so be sure to check the booking calendar.

2008 Update :  We recently got word from the source that  Coors  is now officially  MillerCoors , and the brewery tours are now  self-guided , audio tours lasting 35 minutes.

After a day of rock climbing at North Table Mountain (a.k.a. “Golden Cliffs”), riding a bike along Golden’s bike paths, hiking the trails of White Ranch Park, or just driving around to places in metro-Denver, how about a cold one (or three)? Take a tour at one of Colorado’s best-known companies, Coors, and enjoy up to 3 free samples of their variety of beer products (if you are over 21), or complimentary soft drinks if you are younger or prefer something non-alcoholic.

More than 250,000 people take this popular free tour each year. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis; no reservations are taken. Your audio tour device will guide you through the main steps of the brewing process at the world’s largest brewery at a single site.

Coors beer is brewed, packaged, and distributed cold. For many years, this dedication to keeping the beer cold at all times drastically limited the distribution region, since refrigerated transportation was nearly non-existent in the early days (the company has been around since 1873!), or too expensive to use until recently. Many college students who grew up in Colorado but attended an out-of-state University would bootleg cases of Coors beer when they returned to school after a break, and their special cargo would be in huge demand among their peers on campus!

Coors was also the first company to produce an all-aluminum, two-piece beverage can in 1959. Beer had been available in cans since 1935, but the cans were made of steel, which left a metallic taste and created a large disposal problem. The use of aluminum cans made it possible for Coors to no longer pasteurize its beer, which requires heat (and we’ve already learned that they like keeping everything cold). Coors uses a sterile fill process instead throughout their Golden facility. Another benefit of aluminum cans, of course, is that they can be recycled, and they don’t hurt as much as steel when you try to crush them on your forehead.

Prohibition – definitely not a good time for a beer company! But when Prohibition hit, the Coors family focused on their relatively small porcelain business, and it thrived, making everything from cooking utensils to scientific equipment. The brewing equipment began cranking out malted milk and a near-beer, and the Coors Brewing Company remained profitable during the “dry” years.

Go early if you don't want to wait for hours. We arrived at 9:45 am and a parking lot was closed off with a "Tours Parking" sign up. We circled and circled for a parking space to no avail. Well, at 9:50 they opened the lot for people to park. We were on the 2nd tour of the day, starting at 10. We got back to the car at 11:50. So allow 2 hours if no wait at the parking lot.

The plant tours are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

One of the first sights you see on the Coors Tour at Golden sits right in front of the brewery, a giant copper kettle that stands at least a couple stories tall. This kettle was hand-hammered and helped brew Coors Beer from the 1890s until 1914 -- when Prohibition started up in Colorado and the cops made them dump all the beer in the river. In the 1990s Coors set the kettle outside, though they won't let you get this much free beer on the tour.

A short 30-minute drive west on US-6 from Denver, Colorado will land you in a town you never knew existed, but will quickly become your new favorite destination for a day outside the city. Golden, Colorado is known for its history of having roots in the Colorado Gold Rush in the mid-19th century, but it's best known for being a hub of endless opportunities for outdoor recreation, like biking, hiking (you'll find some of the best hikes in Colorado in and around Golden ), fishing, and more.

City dwellers can easily access the various rides, routes, and trails open to explore the rolling hills and surrounding mountain ranges. And let's not forget, according to Oak Ridge National Libratory, Golden is home to the largest single-site brewery in the world...Coors Brewery. Now, that's impressive!

Surprisingly, Golden is quite the underrated (and undercover) Colorado town that feels like Denver but is maybe even better , and for many reasons! As Colorado continues to expand in order to welcome and support the thousands of people who have relocated here, surrounding cities to Denver have quickly adapted to the demand and begun to flourish with diverse offerings on what to do, see, and experience, other than outdoor adventures... even though this is still a fantastic way to get to know the state, and have an abundance of fun.

So if you're flying into Colorado for the weekend, or a local that's looking to get out of town for the day and explore somewhere new, consider adding Golden to your list of where to visit. You won't regret it!

Plan A Cheap Week In Denver For Less Than $1,000

Many shy away from visiting Denver because of its cost. However, there are many ways to make a week's vacation to the city affordable.

This Historic Town Has The Vibe of A Small Town, Yet Is Only 25 Minutes From Colorado's Capital City

Golden has a rush of unexpected things to do that everyone should experience.

With a growing population of nearly 20,000 people , Golden has quickly become an excellent alternative for those interested in living among the grand mountain landscapes of the Rocky Mountains, while simultaneously being within a short driving distance of the city center and city life.

Sounds like the ideal combo, don't you think? This is exactly what Colorado transplants are looking for: a mix of country and city.

As you may already be aware, historically, Golden was founded during the Colorado Gold Rush and was originally used as a mining town. Hence, the name of the prestigious university located in Golden, the Colorado School of Mines, which was established in 1874. According to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, Golden was initially the center of the territory and enacted as the capital city, before it was officially moved to Denver.

If you're interested in exploring Golden while learning about its history, there are multiple museums, tours, and cultural attractions that are not only educational but interesting to see.

Golden History Museum and Park , for example, is a free public space uncovering Golden's past where you can see the city's collection of over 15,000 historical objects. If that isn't enough, the Mines Museum of Earth Science will leave you flabbergasted (astonished) with the historical artifacts you'll find inside.

With its beginnings in 1874, the museum serves as the state's repository for Colorado's mineral heritage. Two very cool things you can also see here are two Goodwill moon rocks collected during the Apollo 17 mission and the Miss Colorado Crown, which has over 600 gemstones! Now, that's sparkly.

Last but not least, when it comes to special historical attractions, there's one particular attraction that is more popular and relevant today than during its initial establishment. If you're a craft beer fan or love spending your weekends at one of the 400 breweries in Colorado (yes, 400), then you'll definitely recognize the name Coors Beer.

Coors Brewery was established in 1873 by Adolph Coors, a German immigrant. Today, visitors can participate in a 30-minute look at the malting, brewing, and packaging process, and also taste a variety of Coors Beer samples. This is certainly a local favorite and a special way to see and experience the long history of Golden.

Brewery Tours can quickly sell out and can be booked 25 days in advance, so make sure to check the tour calendar as soon as you can to book your tour dates. Also, you can choose Sampling-Only without the tour.

This Mountain Town Has A Vibrant Culture With A Variety Of Family Fun Offerings

Golden offers the charm of a mountain town with an infusion of activities that'll make any city dweller green with envy.

The newest addition to life in Golden is a familiar favorite to Denverites. Babe's Tea Room offers afternoon tea, bubbly brunches, and sweet summer refreshments that are perfect for a day out with friends and family. It officially opened in June 2024 and is undoubtedly a unique cosmopolitan add-on to the historic feel of downtown Golden.

And if that wasn't enough sweetness for you, if you feel like you're a Parisian at heart, you'll love stepping into Earth Sweet Boutique , a French-inspired boutique that sells a variety of handmade, eco-conscious, and "Farm to Shelf" products made by women-owned companies. Plus, they offer a variety of classes, workshops, and events.

If you're an artist at heart, or your little one is interested in arts and crafts, the Foothills Art Center is filled with lists of classes available for adults and youth throughout the year. For adults, you can enjoy Botanic Printmaking with Gelatin Plates or Fall Scenes, and for your little ones, they can have fun with Underwater Watercolor Creatures or Krafting in the Kitchen.

These are just a few classes offered. If you're interested in exploring local artists and their work, schedule your visit around Artsweek Golden Festival , which runs from June 17th - 23rd. This is a week-long celebration with local and national artists exhibiting their beautiful work. If you're going to spend 24 hours in this Colorado city , this is certainly something to add to your to-do list.

Nearby Adventures And Attractions That Are Known Around The World

Golden may be under the radar, but these nearby adventures attract worldwide attention.

A quick 20-minute drive outside of Golden gets you to an amphitheater that is recognized unlike any other, literally. Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater is known for two things: the epic hiking and the equally epic open-air amphitheater, which seems to be practically carved out of the surrounding sandstone.

Since its official opening in 1941 (seriously, 1941!), Red Rocks quickly became a Colorado landmark that has shaped the world around it. Now, it hosts thousands of artists, bands, DJs, comedians, and various shows and activities throughout the year, which attracts people from around the world, curious and interested in experiencing a one-of-a-kind music venue and amphitheater under the stars.

There are many reasons to visit Red Rocks besides its concerts , and if you're curious to visit the park during the day, you can certainly visit the amphitheater and Red Rocks Park, regardless of whether there's an event to hike through the beauty of the Mars-like landscape.

Depending on where you park, you may have to hike to the amphitheater.

Last but not least on the Golden to-do list, a must-see that nearly every Colorado native is familiar with is Lookout Mountain, a beautiful scenic route and lookout that has multiple attractions hidden throughout. One of those being Ruby Falls, which holds the tallest underground cave waterfall open to the public in the United States! In order to get there, explorers descend 260 feet by a glass-front elevator and walk the cavern trail directly to the waterfall.

If you're more of a thrill-seeker, consider ziplining on the Ruby Falls High Point Zip Adventure, which also includes a 40-foot-high climbing wall! If you're an adventurer but prefer to take it easy, you can also spend some time overseeing the miles and miles of scenic panoramic beauty from the Lookout Mountain Tower.

If you choose to adventure in Ruby Falls, you can expect to dedicate 2–3 hours of your day.
