Route's Highlights

Jfk memorial plaza.

Dallas' John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza was dedicated June 24, 1970. In the years since, it has become an integral part of the city’s urban landscape and cultural heritage. It is located one block east of Dealey Plaza, between Main and Commerce streets, on land donated by Dallas County. Meeting location. We will meet our guests at the JFK Memorial, please arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the excursion.

Dealey Plaza

Dealey Plaza is a significant part of Dallas history. The site marks the birthplace of Dallas, originally founded by John Neely Bryan in the 1840s. Almost a century later, as part of President Franklin Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration, the familiar white concrete colonnades and triple underpass were constructed, creating a vehicular park to serve as gateway to the city. The project was spearheaded by civic leader George Bannerman Dealey. After G.B. Dealey died in 1946, a bronze statue to honor him was installed in the park that already bore his name.

Dealey Plaza / Sixth Floor Museum

The Pegasus first landed in Downtown Dallas in 1934, perching atop what was then the city’s tallest building: the 29-story Magnolia Hotel. We will see it up-close at a very different location during our walk.

Pioneer Plaza / Cemetery

Pioneer Plaza, located in downtown Dallas’ Convention Center District, honors the 19th-century cattle drives on the Shawnee Trail with a bronze sculpture of 49 longhorn steer driven by three cowboys on horseback. With a waterfall and artificial cliffs, the park is one of the most popular tourist spots in Dallas.

Dallas City Hall

If you are a fan of sci-fi 80s movies, you sure recognize this building. Designed by world famous designed I.M. Pei (the Louvre pyramid, the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston, Dallas’ Morton Meyerson Center), the City Hall is one of Dallas most famous buildings.

As one of Dallas' first commercial districts for African-Americans and European immigrants, Deep Ellum is one of the most historically and culturally significant neighborhoods in the city. Deep Ellum was established in 1873 as both a residential and commercial neighborhood. Originally called Deep Elm as much of the activity centered around Elm Street just east of downtown Dallas, the pronunciation "Deep Ellum" by residents gave rise to the district's current name.

Dallas Farmers Market

The Dallas Farmers Market was established in 1941 as the a municipal farmers market. Historically, it was the central hub for farmers to bring their produce, meats, and dairy to the city. Today, with the development in downtown Dallas, the Dallas Farmers Market has been transformed to be the farmers market for the future. The addition of food entrepreneurs along with farmers and ranchers, makes this a place to taste the diverse flavors and cultures of Texas. The Market marks half of our tour, we will stop here for 30 minutes, bathroom break, and time to explore, taste some local flavor or enjoy a local brew.

Main Street / Business District

The Neiman Marcus flagship and original store, Comerica Bank Tower, Bank of America Plaza, The Joule, Magnolia Hotel, The Adolphus, and numerous restaurants combine to form the central space known as the Main Street District. With landmarks such as Main Street Garden, Belo Garden, Stone Street Gardens, and Pegasus Plaza, as well as historic buildings that have been converted to residential buildings, the Main Street District is a must to visit.

Thanks-Giving Square is a place that inspires gratitude and honors the great American and world traditions of thanksgiving. Designed in 1976 by architect Philip Johnson, this island of serenity in the heart of downtown Dallas contains a landscaped meditation garden with cascading fountains and a chapel open to people of all faiths and traditions.

Spanning 68-acres and 19 contiguous blocks, the Dallas Arts District is considered as the largest urban entertainment complex in the nation. Klyde Warren Park

Klyde Warren Park serves as a central gathering space for Dallas and its visitors. The 5.2-acre deck park and urban green space is built over the recessed Woodall Rodgers Freeway between Pearl and St. Paul streets in downtown Dallas.

Dallas Skyline / Margaret McDermott Bridge

Before we conclude the excursion we will go across the Trinity River to take a closer look at the Calatrava Bridge and the ever changing Dallas Skyline.

We were a bit restless, but she was not warm and friendly. The driver was cool. The tour did not unfold in the order in which events happened so it was quite confusing. The best part of the tour was the rooming house where the lady who knew Oswald gave us some really interesting firsthand information. The tour guide said it was too hot to get out more than twice. She didn't ask us if we wanted to. Then when we said we needed to stop because we had several kids and they needed to go potty, she was quite reluctant to do so. Having visited the Sixth Floor Museum on a previous visit to Dallas, I was glad that this took a different approach by seeing where various events happened, meeting someone who actually knew Lee Harvey, and hearing our guide discuss the evidence and conflicting testimony. I am from Australia and wanted to take this tour to explore downtown whilst hitting some awesome food spots Well guess what, we visited 3 taco establishments (two of which were franchises that I could've found myself!!) and we received ONE taco at each one!! Are you kidding?! I paid $70 for this tour to be shown places I could've found myself and get a total of 3 tacos for the duration Absolutely ridiculous It is so disappointing to have toured with your company and I am so angry you charged me for that experience! Had the added benefit of Kevin training a new guide, who was doing the driving, so Kevin was able to give us his undivided attention. Tour was thorough and entertaining. We made stops at the assassination site, where we got out of the van and toured the area for a good 20 minutes - including the grassy knoll, X marks on the street, zapruder film location. They also took us to the Oswald murder site, where Ruby shot Oswald. Then they took us to the Bishop Arts area, and we made stops at the House Oswald and his wife lived together, which was the site of the famous "Rifle photo". Then they took us inside the boarding room Oswald lived in for about 6 weeks up to the assassination. It was remarkable seeing the house largely intact to the way it looked in 63. We were then shown site where Oswald killed Officer Tippitt, and subsequently the shoe store he ducked into "is now a quinceanera store" and finally the Texas theatre where he was ultimately arrested. I thought the tour visited all the critical sites with the history of the assassination, and the time spent at each location was appropriate. Kevin was also kind enough to give his own beliefs into the many different conspiracy theories.
