White sand beaches, swaying palm fronds, colorful coral reefs: for many, the allure of Fiji is in its landscapes. Yet this South Pacific archipelago offers just as many incredible experiences as it does sights.

The best weather coincides with higher prices and bigger crowds in Fiji, but there’s never a bad time to visit – not even during cyclone season. So whether you want to lounge on a beach, sail between islands or snorkel with manta rays, here’s when to go to Fiji.

June to September is the high season in Fiji – and the best time for enjoying some idyllic weather

Fiji has two seasons: summer (the wet season) and winter (the dry season). The latter (generally June to September) is the peak tourist season in Fiji with temperatures hovering between 20–30ºC (68–86ºF). Expect an uptick in accommodation prices. The large resorts on Denarau Island are usually filled with families from Australia and New Zealand, who come during the school holidays.

The words “high season” might conjure images of crowds jostling for a spot in the sand, but outside of Denarau, resorts are spread out amongst the islands , making it possible to find a slice of serenity even at this busy time of year.

This is also the best time to enjoy Fiji’s ocean adventures. Surfers saddled with board bags and spare leashes come to catch waves at iconic surf spots like Cloudbreak and Restaurants. For the first time in seven years, the World Surf League Championship Tour will return to Fiji in August 2024. Even if you’re not a surfer, it’s worth catching the 20-minute boat ride out to watch the pros try to make it through near-perfect barrels.

Peer out on the horizon during these months and you’ll likely notice the silhouettes of sails out over the water. Sailors from throughout the South Pacific blow into Fiji to explore the islands by boat and participate in Fiji Regatta Week during September. It’s a great time to sign up for a day’s sailing or try your hand on your resort’s Hobie catamaran. For a glimpse at Fiji’s long seafaring history, pay a visit to the Fiji Museum and admire a replica drua , a traditional sailing canoe. A working 72ft (22m) traditional vessel, the Uto Ni Yalo often sails around the islands during this time as well.

Under the sea’s surface, there’s plenty going on during this time too. The best time to scuba dive and snorkel with manta rays is from May to October, as they hang around Fiji’s Yasawa Islands and the Great Astrolabe Reef off Kadavu. A lack of rainfall around the islands of Vanua Levu and Taveuni creates great visibility during this time for scuba divers keen to explore thriving reefs of soft and hard corals.

Visit Fiji in May or October for fewer crowds but plenty of sun

May and October are considered Fiji’s shoulder months, offering that sweet spot of fewer fellow tourists and pleasant weather. In May, the start of the dry season, temperatures climb towards the high 20°Cs (high 60ºFs). By the end of October, Fiji’s temperatures consistently warm up to the low 30°Cs (low 80ºFs) with relatively low humidity.

October is also one of Fiji’s most festive months. At the start of the month, Fijians celebrate Fiji Day, commemorating their independence from British rule. Many Fijians will use this long weekend to head to the beaches, enjoy a hearty feast (called a lovo ), and put on music and dance performances. During early October, Uprising Beach Resort hosts the largest music festival in Fiji. It’s a chance to kick your shoes off and dance as local musicians play from midday until late into the night on the beach.

At the end of October (or November depending on the year), Fiji also celebrates the Hindu holiday Diwali. Diwali is a festival of lights where Fiji’s skies are alight with fireworks. It’s customary to hop from home to home enjoying incredible Indian curries and sweets, lighting candles and exchanging gifts. Nearly half of Fiji’s citizens – predominantly the Indo-Fijian population – are Hindu, though Diwali celebrations extend to everyone.

Take advantage of low season rates during Fiji’s cyclone season (November to April)

The climate in Fiji is warm all year round, especially during tropical cyclone season. This falls during the wet season, which begins in November and runs until April. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, the peak tends to be between January and February, the hottest months in Fiji.

While planning a holiday to Fiji during this time can feel a bit risky if you seek sunshine and calm seas, there is still a high chance of having pleasant weather. Temperatures can climb during the day, though most days they’ll linger around the high 20ºCs (high 60ºFs). On the smaller islands, heavy rainstorms come and go quickly, often leaving blue skies in their wake. Outside of the Christmas and New Year’s school holidays, you’ll find that accommodation prices tend to be cheaper than most other months of the year. You’re also likely to have your pick of room choices.

Christmas is one of Fiji’s largest religious holidays, as over half of the population is Christian. Special markets, music performances and events take place on the main islands, and a floral shirt or dress paired with sandals makes for the perfect party attire. Fiji’s major cities throw parties for New Year’s Eve and celebrations continue late into the next day as Fiji is one of the first countries to ring in the New Year. The International Date Line once ran through the island of Taveuni , and straddling the former date line on New Year’s Day is a novel thing to tick off your bucket list.

March is usually the wettest month on Viti Levu’s western end, with an average rainfall of 324mm (12.7 in) in Nadi. In the cities, Hindu Indo-Fijians bump up the saturation by throwing colorful powders at one another in celebration of Holi, a festival of new beginnings. At the end of March and early April, join a church service for Easter and prepare to be enchanted by Fijian hymns.

April salutes the end of cyclone season, with rainstorms dwindling by the end of the month. Temperatures, however, linger into the high 20ºs (high 60ºFs)  all month long. If you’re lucky, the first of the year’s surf major swells are pulsing through Fiji and it could be a great month for scuba diving. While rare, pilot whales occasionally cruise through Fiji’s waters starting in April.

Best Times To Visit Fiji

The best time to go to Fiji is whenever you have the chance. This is Fiji we're talking about! Temperatures stay pretty constant through the year, with highs resting in the 80s; however, from November to April, you might have to contend with some tropical storms. For the Fiji experience that you've always dreamed of, the best time to visit is from July to September, but you will have to contend with sky-high prices as this is also peak season. The shoulder seasons are short – May to June and October – but they're nice times to visit since heavy crowds will either have just departed or have yet to descend.

Best Time to Visit Fiji: Month by Month Breakdown

Fiji is a tropical paradise, and this idyllic archipelago in the South Pacific can be visited any time of the year if you’re looking for hot weather and an escape from the cold.

The country enjoys beautifully warm weather regardless of the season, and it’s a popular place to visit for anyone looking for winter sun.

Fiji does have a wet and a dry season, but unlike other parts of the Pacific, it’s only rarely hit by cyclones in the worst of the wet season.

The wet season runs from November to April, and this is when Fiji is hot and humid. You can expect rainfall but it’s often short, although fierce, and it’s a good time to visit for lower prices and quieter tourist spots.

The best time to visit Fiji is in the dry season, which coincides with winter. This is from May to October, and you can expect beautiful, warm weather, and clear skies. This is also the peak season of course, and prices can be much higher.

To help you to plan your Pacific getaway, here’s our month by month guide to choosing the best time to visit Fiji.

Don’t leave home without: Lonely Planet Fiji (Travel Guide)

Table of Contents

January in Fiji

January is the middle of the wet season in Fiji, and that means that it’s also the height of summer.

Temperatures rise well above 30 degrees Celsius and remain hot even through the night, which can be an uncomfortable experience if you’re not used to dealing with constant humidity.

January is a popular time though despite the heat because many Europeans or North Americans will visit to escape the cold of winter back home.

It’s also one of the busiest times outside of the dry season because many Australians and New Zealanders visit too, in order to enjoy their Christmas and New Year holidays.

It can be an expensive place to visit in January and it’s not the best time to visit Fiji if you are on a budget.

David Stock jr of Divergent Travelers adventure travel blog in Fiji

February in Fiji

February is also the middle of the rainy season, but this is the best time to visit Fiji if you’re looking for a bargain resort getaway.

The flights to Fiji tend to be much cheaper in February, and because this is low season, the hotel deals can be fantastic.

It’s so much quieter than January but the weather remains the same, with lots of heat and humidity.

You can expect to be caught in frequent rain showers, but generally speaking, these are usually short, although very fierce. Pack the raincoat and umbrella for February.

February is the best time to visit Fiji if you’re looking to see the waterfalls at their best because the swimming areas and the drops are powerful after heavy rainfall.

David Stock Jr exploring Fiji by Kayak

March in Fiji

Just like February, you can expect there to be a lot of rain in March and it’s not the best time to visit Fiji if you’re looking to stay dry.

This is the rainiest month of the year and it’s also the middle of cyclone season, meaning that if Fiji does get hit by tropical storms it’s likely to happen in March.

But for budget travelers , the deals on flights and hotels can be a steal compared to the high season.

If you want to experience luxury on a budget, then consider March, and book out a swanky beachside resort or overwater bungalow.

You’ll also find the jungles and forests at their most pristine, as the heavy rainfall ensures that flowers are blooming and the trees and foliage are verdant and beautifully green.

The waterfalls, of course, are easily at their most powerful extent in March too.

The Yasawas Islands are also a good pick for March because they receive less rainfall than places like Suva or Nadi.

Lavena Coastal Walk, Taveuni Fiji

April in Fiji

April is the last month of the wet season, and it’s a lovely time to be in Fiji if you’re looking to avoid the summer crowds that will soon arrive and enjoy fairly glorious weather too.

Temperatures are still very hot, and you’ll find it often rises above 30 degrees Celsius in the daytime and still stays high in the night.

The humidity is dropping though as Fiji transitions into winter.

You’ll still have rain showers in April but these drop off towards the end of the month.

The Yasawas and Mamanucas Islands will have much less rainfall so head here for a lovely tropical getaway.

A beachside resort is a good choice for April as you’ll be able to jump into the ocean to cool off.

Tavoro Waterfalls, also at times known as the Bouma Waterfalls.

May in Fiji

May is the start of the dry season and it can easily be the best time to visit Fiji.

You’ll avoid the real high season crowds that arrive in June and July and you’ll still have wonderfully gorgeous weather.

There might be the odd rain shower in May but it’s mostly dry across the islands.

The sun is shining and the temperatures are still hovering around 30 degrees Celsius, which is why this is a great time to explore Fiji.

Go scuba diving or snorkeling, as the water is still warm and the visibility is already much better than during the rainy season.

Fiji has some of the best coral in the world and one of the largest reefs in the world too.

Head to Vanua Levi for the pick of the snorkeling, or visit Denarau Island to explore the beautiful offshore paradise before the crowds arrive next month.

June in Fiji

June is the start of the high season because weather-wise this is the best time to visit Fiji.

The rain is now over and the skies are clear, while the temperatures are starting to drop too.

This is a great time for snorkeling and diving, so head to the tropical idylls of Yasawas or Mamanucas for some world-class underwater views and marine life.

June gets busy in Fiji because in Australia and New Zealand its winter and winter sun-seekers flock to the islands.

Drone photo of Cloud 9 in Fiji

July in Fiji

It’s winter in Fiji in July but that means that it’s a prime time to be exploring.

Everyone else will have the same idea though because this is peak season.

Not only is Fiji packed with winter sun-seekers but it’s the school holidays in Australia and New Zealand too, and for many, it’s the only chance they get to take a vacation.

If you are looking for peace and quiet then July isn’t the best time to visit Fiji.

It’s not a good time if you’re on a budget either because of the prices across the country skyrocket.

You’ll be paying a premium for resorts and paying a lot more for flights too.

It’s a beautiful time weather-wise but if you do go in July be sure to book everything in advance.

Lina Stock of Divergent Travelers walking to Turtle Island in Fiji.

August in Fiji

August can be just as busy as July, especially during school holidays, and August is best avoided if you are looking for a quiet getaway.

Prices remain high in August, but everywhere in Fiji looks beautiful this time of the year.

You can’t really pick a bad destination in August so try and get off the beaten track if you absolutely have to travel now.

LIna Stock of the Divergent Travelers Adventure Travel Blog snorkeling in Vanua Levu.

September in Fiji

September is much quieter than August so try and hold off and visit now instead.

This is getting towards the end of the dry season but the weather is still perfect. It’s getting hotter and it’s very dry.

This is the best time to visit Fiji if you want to snorkel or dive because the water is incredibly clear.

It’s also manta ray season and you can swim with these beautiful creatures off the coast in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Qamea Luxury Resort in Fiji

October in Fiji

October is the last month of the dry season, so make the most of the dry weather and clear skies before the wet season soon begins.

This is very much a shoulder month and it’s a great time to be in Fiji if you’re looking for a quiet escape.

Visit the Coral Coast or other popular destinations for excellent underwater activities in the clear waters that surround Fiji.

Sunset in Fiji on Taveuni Island

November in Fiji

November is the start of the rainy season again in Fiji, although it’s more of a transitional month.

This can actually be the best time to visit Fiji if you want to avoid the summer crowds.

You can still enjoy some great weather because there’s only a spattering of storms and rain clouds throughout the month.

Prices are cheap after summer and before Christmas so take advantage of the low costs and book into some luxury bargain resorts.

Lina and David Stock (America's Adventure Couple) in Fiji

December in Fiji

Although December is well into the wet season now, and temperatures are high and the humidity is at times unbearable, Fiji experiences a mini high season, especially over Christmas.

Holiday-makers flock here looking for a hot and sunny Christmas or a tropical getaway over the holiday period and prices skyrocket.

There are lots of rain showers, but actually, the wet weather isn’t too bad in December, which is why Fiji is still so popular a choice.

The warm waters are welcoming for snorkelers and divers and you can book a beachfront resort to enjoy the cool ocean breezes.

Published August 17, 2020

// By Margherita

If I say ‘Fiji’, what comes to mind? Probably images of dreamy beaches and honeymoon resorts, right? But what if I said Fiji is quite easy to visit, and can be surprisingly affordable? Find out how with this 5 days Fiji itinerary guest post, by Umang from Travelmax !

Once a beach bum, always a beach bum!

If you love the sound of waves crashing on the shores, or like rolling on the sand as the sea gently caresses your feet, then you are probably always on the lookout for your next beach vacation.

Put to rest all your musings and head straight to the fantastic Fiji Islands to relish a unique and relaxing time off your hectic city schedules. Fiji is not only a beautiful island country, but an epitome of cultural indulgence with a hint of luxury.

A good Fiji itinerary will give you a taste of the best in Fiji. Be it azure beaches, surreal forests, beautiful hikes, enchanting resorts or warm hospitality, you will be able to enjoy all of it in this recommended 5 day Fiji itinerary.

Fiji Intro

We were planning a trip to New Zealand for 20 days. Out of these 20 days, we were going to spend 6 days in North Island and rest in South. But, we cut our North Island trip short and visited Fiji . We revamped our New Zealand itinerary to include Fiji as well.

Where is Fiji?

For those unaware of this place, the Republic of Fiji is an is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, about 2,000 km northeast of New Zealand.

Fiji is an archipelago of more than 300 islands. The two major islands are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. The country is quite popular with international travellers and there are many reasons for that! We will try to cover these reasons in this 5 day Fiji itinerary.

Fiji has an interesting connection with India. When British was ruling both the countries, many Indians were brought to Fiji in order to help the British rule this island country.

India got its independence in 1947. However, the British vacated Fiji in 1970. Due to this, many Indian families were settled in Fiji, working with the British government till 1970. Hence, a slight influence of Indian culture is evident in Fiji.

In fact, Fiji has its own version of Hindi, India’s official language. This dialect is known as ‘Fijian Hindi’ , and recognized as one of the official languages of Fiji. Imagine our surprise when we landed in Fiji and were greeted by our own language!

What’s The Best Way to Get to Fiji?

Well connected by flights from major airports across the world, Fiji draws in many tourists who rave about its glorious sunsets and golden shores. The island country of Fiji has two international airports – Nadi and Suva . Both are located on the largest Fiji  island, Viti Levu.

Flying to Fiji

There are many smaller airports as well, but they do not facilitate international routes. Mostly, they are used for domestic routes. Internal flights are a good way to reach various islands quickly.

Out of Nadi and Suva, Nadi is the bigger airport with better connectivity to neighbouring countries. However, you can check both the airports in order to get best airline fare.

You can consider exchanging currency or buying sim-cards from the airport itself , they aren’t very expensive. This is contrary to the popular belief that airports are expensive for exchanging currency or buying sim-card.

In order to reach your resort, you can take the yellow cabs waiting outside the airport. These are metered cabs and generally, the cabs ply on meter. But if not, then anywhere close to 1 USD per KM should be a fair rate.

Here’s a 5-day Fiji itinerary to save you the trouble of time-consuming planning. Simply follow our lead and prepare yourself for a soul-refreshing week ahead.

Fiji Itinerary Day 1 – Check-in and Relaxation

The island of Viti Levu has two main cities – Suva and Nadi , the former being the administrative capital and latter being the airport with the most international connections.

If there’s no direct flight from your country, you can fly to New Zealand or Australia and take a flight from any of their major airports. Once you land at the Nadi airport, you will be pleasantly surprised by the warm hospitality of the Fijians.

beautiful Fiji Beach

We recommend spending your first day in Fiji in your chosen resort , relaxing in  luxurious surroundings and recuperating from your journey. Below, I have mentioned some recommendations on places to stay in Fiji.

Do note the location of these resorts. Depending on the location, you can either reach them directly via cab , or you may have to book a boat of sea plane to reach the resort.

5 Day Fiji Itinerary – Where to Stay

The coasts of Fiji are replete with resorts of international standards and you will be spoilt for choice no matter what your budget is. Here are a few of our recommendations:

  • Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay – Located 36 kms from the Nadi airport on Momi Bay, this hotel is opulence redefined. A private beach, multiple dining facilities, sea facing villas, exclusive children’s play areas and swimming pools – it is a five-star accommodation for your much-deserved break.

Fiji Marriott cottage night photo

  • The Radisson Blu Resort at Denarau – This hotel is about 15 kms away from the airport and offers private pick-up facility. It is located amidst 10 acres of tropical gardens, beautiful waterfalls, and a beach to yourself. The hotel is home to many luxuries and facilities that will pamper you. There is a wide range of cuisines available across the hotel, in addition to the local Fijian cuisine.
  • The Treasure Island Resort at Mamanuca Islands – As the name suggests, this is an adventurous getaway! From water activities like kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, snorkelling and scuba diving, to nightly entertainment and children’s activities, they have it all. The Senikai Spa is highly rated and the sushi bar is quite popular. They can organise island picnics or private waterside dinners- anything you demand. Worth every penny!

Spend the rest of the day relaxing at your hotel and watching the sunset from the viewing deck. Most resorts are sea-facing and have lovely seating arrangements to enjoy the outdoors.

Fiji Itinerary Day 2 – Scuba Diving at Coral Coast

Fiji is one of the most faraway lands you will ever visit , and the unique locale of this place has blessed it with pristine waters and excellent underwater life.

Scuba diving and snorkelling are extremely popular here and the long coastline at Coral Coast in Viti Levu is the perfect place for it.

Whether you’re a professional diver or a complete novice, you have experts to depend upon who will take you on an unimaginably eye-opening experience as you see the dark depths of the underwater open up before you.

Scuba Diving

If you have some energy left after Scuba diving, you can consider a local sightseeing trip on the Island of Viti Levu. This will give you a peek into the local culture and lifestyle.

You can explore some of the island and the sprawling markets for the rest of the day. Then, head over to the WW2 Momi Battery National Park. This was home to guns and bunkers during war, as the government expected Japanese attacks and wanted to be prepared. One of the bunkers is now a museum, hosting photographs portraying the history.

You can enjoy a g ood view of Momi Bay and the Mamanuca Islands from here. Once you have indulged in the Scuba dive and some local attractions, head back to the resort. The next day will have a beautiful hike in store for you.

Fiji Boat Ride

Fiji Itinerary Day 3 – Mount Batilamu Hike

When you think of beaches, you obviously envision long stretches of sand and sea. But this Fiji Itinerary also boast of dense rain forests and volcanic mountains. These vantage points provide spectacular bird’s eye views of the island and surrounding ocean.

While Mount Tomanivi , originally known as Mount Victoria, is Fiji’s highest mountain , standing tall at 1,232 meters, the hike on it can get tricky for beginners and you will definitely require a guide to take you along.

A better alternative for a more scenic yet easier hike would be to climb Mount Batilamu. Known as as the Sleeping Giant, this mountain peak is located in Korayanitu National heritage park, close to Lautoka in Viti Levu.

The entire hike should take you around five hours but the effort is worth it. The mountain is 1,110 meters tall and offers magnificent views of the Mamanuca and Yasawa Island groups.

On your way, you will come across cascading waterfalls, hidden swimming holes and dense greenery. This walk amidst nature’s purest form will give you memories that can be cherished for lifetime! Ask your guide if there are opportunities to indulge in the local culture. Maybe it would be a good idea to grab a local meal.

Spa in Fiji

Once back to the resort, consider indulging in a beautiful SPA experience which will help you overcome the tiring hike.

Fiji Itinerary Day 4- Cloud9 Bar or Malamala Beach Club

Known as Fiji’s floating paradise, Cloud 9 is a two-level floating platform with an internationally stocked bar and Italian wood-fired pizzeria. This unique pizzeria & bar is surrounded by turquoise blue water and picturesque views. With sun decks, day beds, and surround sound system throughout, this a traveller’s dream turned into reality.

Cloud9 Bar

Another alternative to Cloud9 Bar is Malamala beach club. It’s a part of popular Captain Cook Cruises and offers a peaceful vibe to guests. Both these destinations are bang in the middle of the ocean and would be definitely worthy of a visit.

Imagine lounging on a recliner with a cool cocktail in hand, a piping hot pizza to bite into, relaxing live music being belted out, and all of this right in the middle of an ocean! You can take a break and go snorkelling into the waters and come back for another round of cocktails. If this doesn’t define a relaxing break, what does?

Fiji Itinerary Day 5 – Check out and fly back

On your last day, you can choose between just heading to the airport after spending a relaxed morning in the resort, or opt for some local sightseeing.

For a lighter yet meaningful time, visit the museum at Suva where you can see a collection of historical objects unearthed from the sand dunes in Fiji.

Once you are done exploring this beautiful tropical paradise, you would perhaps want to hunt for some souvenirs to keep those memories alive. Head to the Municipal Handicraft Centre at the Municipal Car Park in Suva and collect some Kava Bowls, Grass Skirts, Tapa (Fijian Cloth) and Lali (Fijian Drum).

The Lawai Pottery Village in Sigatoka, Viti Levu, would be another unique experience as you will be guided by the local women through pottery kilns and you can purchase the items you like.

For those who are interested in buying traditional precious jewellery , head to La Galerie near the airport.

1 Week in Fiji Itinerary Ideas

Overall, this Fiji itinerary will take you through several diverse experiences across the country. However, this country can definitely keep you engaged for a time period longer than 5 days!

If you have more days, you can consider visiting the other islands of Fiji. The 5-day itinerary that we have presented here will keep you only in Viti Levu island.

But if you have more days, you can consider visiting Vanua Levu , the 2nd biggest island of Fiji. Next to Vanua Levu, you can visit Taveuni Island , 3rd biggest island.

Between these two islands, an oceanic strait is home to beautiful marine life. Known as Rainbow Reef , this Scuba diving stretch will leave you absolutely enthralled! On Taveuni Island, you have Bouma National Park, which is an epitome of how pure nature could be!

However, reaching Taveuni Island might take an entire day of yours – making this option feasible only if you have 1 week in Fiji (minimum).

With 1 week in Fiji, you can pick between spending relaxed time on the island of Viti Levu or shuttle between islands and cover more of this beautiful country!

Hope you liked this Fiji itinerary. While returning, wrap up the lovely aromas and scenes of this remote island country before you travel back home. You will be carrying with you an unforgettable journal of panoramic photographs and smiling happy faces.

Summer officially starts in June, and that means it’s time to book your next vacation. Whether you’re planning a weeklong family trip in the U.S. or a once-in-a-lifetime getaway somewhere farther afield, we’ve got you covered. We’ve checked out destinations near and far for travel ideas — gathering suggestions from local experts and frequent travelers — to round up the best places to travel this June.

Here are the best places to travel in June in the United States and around the world.

Located an hour south of Seattle-Tacoma Airport on the southern tip of the Puget Sound, Washington’s capital offers historic architecture and a vibrant arts scene. “June is when the Olympia area truly begins to shine with beautiful summer weather,” Shina Wysocki, owner of Chelsea Farms Oyster Bar in Olympia tells Travel + Leisure . “Extreme low tides allow for great beach exploration, and our forests are vibrant green, inviting hikers of all ages.” Visitors can rent a boat on Offut Lake or take a sunset sailboat tour with Olympia Sailing Company . It’s festival season, and the free three-day “Loveoly Summerfest” takes place June 21-23. Nearby, Seattle celebrates Pride Month with the 50th annual Pride Parade on June 30.

Where to Stay: The quaint four-bedroom Marie Bed & Breakfast radiates charming Victorian ambiance. The Swantown Inn is an 1887 Queen Anne/Eastlake Victorian mansion with modern amenities. In Seattle, stay steps from the waterfront at Hotel 1000, LXR Hotels & Resorts in the heart of downtown, or at Thompson Seattle near Pike Place Market .

Travel as summer vacationers have for hundreds of years to the car-free Mackinac Island where horse-drawn carriages are a daily sight and lilacs scent the June air. The 76th Mackinac Island Lilac Festival (June 7-16) celebrates the beloved flower with a Lilac Queen coronation, a 10K run, lilac planting seminars, a cornhole tournament, the Grand Parade, and more. “June is an exciting time on Mackinac Island. Flowers are in full bloom, temperatures are rising, and summer has officially begun,” says David Jurcak, president of the island’s iconic Grand Hotel. Visitors can explore Fort Mackinac, take bike rides, hike, sail around, and shop in the town’s boutiques, even if all you come away with is the island’s famous fudge.

Where to Stay: Set on 18 acres on the sunrise side of Mackinac Island, Mission Point Resort offers 243 guest rooms and suites, six restaurants, and a variety of activities. The Grand Hotel features a variety of accommodations along with 13 restaurants and bars.

This village of islands in the Florida Keys is located 90 minutes south of Miami. Known for sportfishing, Islamorada also offers hiking trails in a tropical forest, eco-tours, and state parks where visitors can enjoy nature and learn about Florida’s history. Divers can explore the reefs surrounding the islands or visit the History of Diving Museum . Boating, kayaking among the islands, swimming, and snorkeling are more ways to get out on the water and enjoy the scenic islands.

Where to Stay: The luxury oceanfront Islands of Islamorada features residential-style accommodations ranging from one-bedroom to four-bedroom villas with full kitchens. Recently renovated Islander Resort Islamorada offers bungalows, suites, and townhouse-style villas. Cheeca Lodge & Spa is a stunning option, and Islamorada Resort Collection offers three premier resorts with different vibes.

Music festivals arrive in this part of Tennessee in June, with CMA Fest in Nashville from June 6-9 and the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in nearby Manchester from June 13-16. “Once you encounter the food, artisans, and Bonnaroo culture, it becomes an annual pilgrimage to escape everyday life, slow down, move with the music, and talk to strangers again,” according to Rebecca Bordenet-French, general manager of the Manchester Coffee County Conference Center. “Plan to stay another night and enjoy Middle Tennessee with its abundant hiking and biking trails.” Meanwhile, in Nashville, travelers can dive into “The Music City’s” claim to fame with visits to the Grand Ole Opry and Ryman Auditorium and live performances at bars and clubs.

Where to Stay: At Bonnaroo, there’s on-site camping and glamping. In Nashville, stay at the art-filled The Joseph, a Luxury Collection Hotel , Bobby Nashville in historic Printers Alley downtown, or The Westin Nashville near Music Row. Nearby in Franklin, Southall Farm & Inn is a working farm with a spa, pool, two restaurants, guest rooms, suites, and cottages.

If the name Ocean City conjures up visions of waves breaking on the shore, a classic wooden boardwalk, restaurants, and summer fun, you have a pretty good idea of what you’ll find on this Maryland barrier island with ten miles of Atlantic coastline. For more than a hundred years, Ocean City has offered visitors sunny beaches, an amusement park, games, arcades, shops, boating, fishing, and water sports. There’s nightlife, a performing arts center with live shows, shopping, and nearby Assateague Island with beaches and wildlife that includes deer and wild horses.

Where to Stay: The newly renovated Ashore Resort & Beach Club features 250 accommodations including 15 multi-room suites, perfect for families and groups. Campers can check out nearby Frontier Town RV Resort & Campground .

This coastal city is a year-round destination, and June is an ideal time to visit thanks to temperatures reaching into the 70s and several events. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024, the Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Celebration is the largest event in Santa Barbara County, with a parade of floats, giant puppets, whimsical costumes, and music and a festival that attracts spectators from around the world. There’s also the Juneteenth Block Party , a celebration of Black culture and talent with music, dancing, poetry, art exhibitions, food, storytelling, and the Black Artisan Market. The Santa Barbara Wine + Food Festival and the Santa Barbara Lavender Festival are both set for June 29. My favorite spots in the area are the Santa Barbara Urban Wine Trail and Funk Zone ; I love visiting wineries, and the Wine Trail is a convenient way to taste a few new wines and hear their stories.

Where to Stay: The Steward , an all-suite boutique hotel, is set on nearly five lush acres with a fitness barn, pool, and restaurant. The Rosewood Miramar Beach features six restaurants and bars in nearby Montecito. The luxurious El Encanto, a Belmond Hotel is set on a hillside overlooking the city.

Located in southeastern New York about 100 miles from Manhattan, the Catskills have long been a destination for snow sports during the winter and an escape from the city’s stifling heat during the summer. The summer season gets underway in June, but visitors in the early part of the month can beat the crowds to enjoy the flowers, green trees, and fresh air of late spring. Miles of hiking and mountain biking trails reward trekkers with spectacular views, waterfalls, and wildlife. Fly fishing, kayaking, and rock climbing attract adventure travelers, and luxurious hotels are there for visitors seeking relaxation among natural beauty.

Where to Stay: Choose your own Catskills adventure, with accommodation options ranging from glamping in a vintage camper at Boheme Retreats in the Sullivan Catskills, relaxing at The Chatwal Lodge , a luxury all-inclusive resort, exploring the wilderness at Scribner's Lodge , or taking in the view from a soaking tub at the plush boutique Urban Cowboy .

You can still get ahead of most summer visitors to Utah’s five spectacular national parks if you start planning now. Skiers have packed away their gear, and most of the snow has melted, so hikers, rock climbers, river rafters, and campers have their choice of Utah’s mountains, rivers, trails, and parks. Utah is home to 23 designated International Dark Sky Places for stargazing; five are in national parks and 10 are in state parks. Plan for some time in Utah’s cities where restaurants, pubs, museums, and historic buildings offer more ways to enjoy the “Beehive State.”

Where to Stay: Under Canvas offers upscale, custom-designed glamping tents in Zion, Bryce Canyon, Lake Powell-Grand Staircase, and Moab, with special stargazing activities. In Moab, stay at the rustic Red Cliffs Lodge . In Salt Lake City, choose the Grand America Hotel or Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City .

This small Buddhist kingdom in the Himalayas, often called the happiest country in the world, is known for its stunning landscapes and monasteries. June begins the summer season, when two major cultural festivals take place with vibrant traditional performances, folk dances, and displays of spiritual devotion. “Bhutan is a country that has forged its own path and deliberately stands aside and apart from the mainstream — in travel, and much else,” according to TravelLocal founder, Huw Owen. “There is no mass tourism here, limited hustle and bustle, and plenty of space, peace, and silence. It’s one of the few destinations with the power to make you think, reflect, and perhaps change.” TravelLocal offers a variety of ways to explore Bhutan through guided tours.

Where to Stay: TravelLocal’s personalized itineraries can include hikes through the Himalayas, visits to the famous Tiger’s Nest, and time in Bumthang, known as “the Switzerland of Bhutan.” Accommodations are at hotels or local residents’ homes.

June is considered Fiji’s brief shoulder season before the summer crowds arrive, and the weather is generally dry with temperatures in the 70s to mid-80s. A rainbow of tropical fish and marine life make their habitats in the barrier reefs, so this destination is a paradise for divers and snorkelers. On land, there are rainforests, waterfalls, and hiking trails for adventure travelers. Fresh seafood, ripe tropical fruit, and local flavors represent Fiji’s tasty cuisine. Plus, daily nonstop flights from Los Angeles and service from other West Coast cities on Fiji Airways make getting there easy.

Where to Stay: My stay at VOMO Island , a private island resort among Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands, was wonderful, and the snorkeling expedition was the best I’ve experienced in my travels. Wakaya Private Island Resort & Spa offers waterfront cottage suites. Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort , Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay , COMO Laucala Island , and Turtle Island are more places to stay.

June is considered the last month of shoulder season in Los Cabos before the arrival of summer vacationers and hurricane season. Temperatures reach the high 80s, ideal beach and pool weather that’s also perfect for a sunset cruise or a sportfishing excursion. Dive, snorkel, or hike in Cabo Pulmo National Park, where a coral reef is home to a diverse array of marine life. Explore pedestrian-friendly San José del Cabo, with its town square, shops, galleries, restaurants, and Thursday evening Art Walk (through June). There are so many interesting and fun things to do in Los Cabos , even if all you want is a lounge chair by the pool and a margarita.

Where to Stay: My recent stay at the all-inclusive Grand Velas Los Cabos was superb, and I also visited the luxurious adults-only Grand Velas Boutique Hotel, another gorgeous resort. Another favorite, the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is planning a Festival of Flavors culinary weekend June 13-15. The Four Seasons Los Cabos Costa Palmas is another personal favorite for its golf course and beach.

June kicks off Toronto’s summer season with exciting festivals and events. World-renowned musicians gather for the Toronto Jazz Festival , June 21-30, and from June 6-16, Luminato Festival brings art, musicals, theater, concerts, and more to Toronto. The city celebrates Pride Month with a vibrant parade as well as parties, performances, and art. Toronto historian and tour guide, Bruce Bell , tells T+L, “You’ll never have to worry about food in Toronto.” He recommends St. Lawrence Market, “the oldest and largest food market in Toronto, established in 1803. There are over 80 vendors, and it’s very multicultural, which perfectly reflects the city’s population.”

Where to Stay: Kimpton St. George features The Fortunate Fox , a hip gastropub. The Shangri-La Toronto is located in one of the city’s tallest buildings. Ace Hotel Toronto was featured on T+L’s It List in 2023. Nobu Hotel & Residences Toronto is set to debut in summer 2024 with a two-level Nobu restaurant.

The mountainous island of Tasmania lies about 150 miles south of mainland Australia. Its untouched natural beauty includes waterfalls, lakes, wildlife, national parks, wineries, and some of the world’s oldest forests. June’s Dark Mofo , Hobart/Nipaluna’s midwinter festival inspired by ancient rituals, celebrates the longest night through art, food, music, fire, and light. “Dark Mofo has established itself as a beacon of artistic exploration and challenging ideas for a decade, immersing audiences in the depths of darkness and the heart of winter,” according to Chris Twite, Dark Mofo’s artistic director. The Winter Feast (June 13-16 and 20-23) showcases Tasmanian food, wine, and spirits. The Nude Solstice Swim will take place at sunrise on June 21, welcoming back the light after the longest night.

Where to Stay: In Hobart, waterfront and city accommodations are available, including The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel , set in historic waterfront buildings.

Daniel Gorostieta/Travel + Leisure

This country, bordered by the Aegean, Mediterranean, and Ionian seas, offers everything you could want in a summer vacation — sunshine, warm waters, beaches, museums, ancient sites, and delicious cuisine. That makes the season a busy one, but early June is the tail end of the shoulder season, a good time to get ahead of summer’s visitors. In Athens , thrill to the sight of the Acropolis, Parthenon, and other ancient buildings, but don’t miss the city’s old town and seaside. Then it’s time to get to know Greece’s cities and islands, each one offering distinctive pleasures. The popular island of Mykonos features beaches, clubs, and a lively atmosphere. Beautiful Santorini is known for whitewashed buildings topped with blue domes. You can also find your way to lesser-known places for a relaxing vacation with fewer tourists.

Where to Stay: Katikies Santorini topped T+L’s 2023 World’s Best Awards list of the top resorts in Greece , with Andronis Boutique Hotel and Andronis Arcadia (opening for the season in May) also on the list. Cali Mykonos (named to T+L’s It List in 2023) reopens on April 29, with 40 villas on secluded Kalafati Beach. Calilo on Ios reopens on June 1 with a new spa, and the all-inclusive Sol Cosmopolitan Rhodes is an ideal family resort.

Want to visit several European cities without creating your own itinerary, arranging flights and transfers, and packing and unpacking between destinations? A cruise could be your answer, and there are so many to choose from. Cruise Croatia offers small-ship cruises along the Croatian coastline and islands in its luxurious, modern fleet. You can cruise the Mediterranean in glorious style with Star Clippers in a five-masted clipper ship. Oceania Cruises features a variety of Mediterranean itineraries aboard the new Oceania Vista . I spent two nights on the 1,200-passenger ship, and it’s stunning, with spacious rooms, a range of restaurants, and a fabulous pool deck. Cruise Europe’s rivers on a specially themed sailing, like the AmaWaterways wine cruise through France. And there are fantastic family-friendly cruise lines that offer entertainment, food, and service for everyone in the group.

The Best Fiji Itineraries for 1 Week 🌴 [2024]

Our selection of the best 1-week itineraries for fiji.

Is spending one week in the same resort really not your style? Want to make the most of your time in Fiji seeing a few different islands? We have just the list of one-week Fiji itineraries for you! Whether you’re travelling with children, on a romantic honeymoon, on a budget, seeking luxury or something else, you’re bound to find something to suit your travel style in this list of the best Fiji itineraries for 1 week.

Destinations Visited in Our Fiji Itineraries for 7 Days

With 333 islands, choosing a destination in Fiji can be pretty overwhelming. So let’s break it down to the main destinations mentioned in the one-week itineraries listed below.

This is Fiji’s largest and main island where most arrive in Fiji via Nadi International Airport . Some of the itineraries below visit several destinations around Viti Levu , all of which are located on the coast and are accessible by road. These Viti Levu destinations include Nadi , Denarau , the Coral Coast , Pacific Harbour , Suva and the Suncoast (Rakiraki) .

Mamanuca Islands and Yasawa Islands

These two island groups are among some of the easiest island groups to reach from Nadi, with a developed tourism scene yet the islands themselves are still remarkably undeveloped. The island groups hold a mix of volcanic islands and small uninhabited coral islands. Read further in The Complete Guide to the Mamanuca Islands and The Complete Guide to the Yasawa Islands .

This is Fiji’s second-largest island located in the northern region of Fiji, about a 1h25min flight from Nadi International Airport . There are two main towns on the island, while the rest of the landscape is made up of small villages, remote resorts, copra and sugar cane plantations, and tropical forest. Find out more about the island in The Complete Guide to Vanua Levu .

Off the southeastern shores of Vanua Levu, Taveuni earns its nickname as the “Garden Island” thanks to its abundance of nature. Around 80% of the island is made up of the Bouma National Heritage Park, while marine reserves and top scuba diving locations are found off its coast. Find out more about Taveuni in The Complete Guide to Taveuni .

Fiji Budget & Backpacking Itinerary for 1 Week

Fiji has a reputation for being an expensive destination to travel but that’s certainly not the case when there’s both budget accommodation and free/cheap activities found across the islands.

For a one-week budget trip to Fiji, we recommend exploring Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu , to eliminate the associated costs of overwater travel . What’s more, Viti Levu has a huge range of experiences for backpackers and budget travellers: from urban to nature, mountains to sea, off-shore islands to inland river excursions, and the list goes on.

See our complete one-week budget itinerary in Fiji Budget & Backpacking Itinerary: 7 Days . Otherwise, check out this quick overview:
