We did the Anime + Traditional Japan tour in late December. The weather was above freezing and sunny. Our tour guide was great and answered every question. The sites are beautiful and the food was amazing. Lots of free time to explore each site.

Went with this agency after reading about them on Reddit. We purchased the Essence of Spring | Anime Pioneer tour. This was our first time going to Japan. The communication with the agency and myself was minimal. For example they didn't see that I updated my address and sent the tour information to my old address instead. They did do the right thing and resent it to my new address. As for the tour, the hotel was a business one which was a bit awkward since we are tourists. Sadly the check in time was not until 3pm and was not able to accommodate our super early arrival. The hotel itself wasn't too bad except for the tobacco smell on the floor. Thankfully they had air purifier machines in the room itself. The breakfast buffet was a mix of European and Japanese breakfast food, so no US style breakfast unless you walk over to Mc Donalds/Cocos a block away from the hotel. Now the tour itself, too much to do and so little time. The tour guides are awesome, knowledgeable and friendly. There were places I wished they had in the tour like Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, Shinjuku/Kubuki-cho, Ikibukuro, Diver City, etc. There wasn't much time to shop in Akibahara and Shibuya. There was less time to see the Ghibli Museum since we got there an hour before it was closing. Thankfully myself and my son was able to hit up most of the places that I listed that was not in the tour on our own. Suffice to say, the trains was confusing to navigate so be aware of that if you plan on using their system (google maps was a life saver for the train system). There is Uber in Tokyo, but that is going through the Taxi companies which is expensive ($50 one way). I hope in the future that they can tweak their offerings and have more locations to go to in Tokyo ( Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, Shinjuku/Kubuki-cho, Ikibukuro, Diver City, etc.). In the long run, a week isn't enough time to stay, 1 1/2 to 2 weeks would have been better. Overall it was a decent trip, we had good memories of our time in Tokyo.

We booked our summer vacation with JDT soon after Japan announced it will open up to foreign tourism post-Covid, and this was despite having no recent reviews on the tour company we could rely on. The JDT tour itinerary we selected was excellent and exceeded our expectations for our family, which included a college age student and a 12 year old. There was a wide array of sightseeing and activities covering every interest of our family, including anime sites and shopping, popular cultural sites, and entertainment activities (Universal Studios Japan, ninja demonstration, rickshaw tour, and geisha show). Some days included lunch or dinner, and this covered a good breadth of what Japanese cuisine has to offer. The driver was good and we can't say enough about our guide (Hiro) who was very friendly, informative and helped ensure that even our time to explore Japan outside the tour hours went smoothly. This was a group tour and we found all the other group members to be very friendly, many of whom shared our interests for anime and all of us were new visitors to Japan. This was our first trip to Japan and we can thank JDT for making the experience very memorable for our family.

Was our first time to Japan and had Kana as our guide (a very wonderful guide, anyone would be happy to have her!). The variety was good, the time to visit each thing was a little hurried (always wished to have a little more time), but thankful for the experiences we were able to enjoy. Very good experience as a first time visitor to Japan.

Having a great experience during our 7 days Essence of spring tour. Each day is planned with highlights of Kyoto, Hakone and Tokyo! Our tour guide, Hiroko, is great! She is very knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating, and goes out of her way to even show us areas and share recommendations of places/restaurants for us to see and try during our free time. So hard to choose a favorite activity since they were all so memorable... we went to see the popular Nara deer park, the different shrines, bamboo forest, went to a tea ceremony, the hot springs, and many more! I guess the most unique so far is the rickshaw ride to see the arashiyama bamboo forest. Highly recommend this tour agency since everything was planned with careful detail and exceeded my expectations. Can't wait to go back to Japan again!

Used them for a tour back in 2017. Super nice staff and had a lot of fun on the trip. I'd recommend looking into the "day-by-day" though. Not everyone was expecting such long days and a lot of walking during the tour... I was pretty tired myself but the hotels in Tokyo were so nice and the food was so good, I didn't mind the tired feet. Fun times, can't wait to go back to Japan :)

This tour is a great value and packed with a ton of great sights and cultural experiences. Our tour guide Hiro took us to sights around Tokyo, an incredible open air art museum, many shrines and temples, a meeting with a maiko in Kyoto, a tea ceremony, Himeji castle, Kurashiki and Hiroshima. We hit all the good spots and had a wonderful guide with Hiro and driver, Kenji-San. The crowd on our tour skewed toward older married couples, but everyone was warm, welcoming and super interesting to talk to. Japan is incredible with all kinds of hidden gems. The tour hits them all. The value can't be beat and the hotels are perfectly nice accommodation. I would have liked a bit more free time to shop or just wander, but I can't complain too much. The company was super helpful planning my time in Japan and this tour was exactly what I needed to get comfortable traveling here.

I am currently on the 9 day Japan Anime Tour, during cherry blossoms season. So far our whole family is having an awesome time! We were hesitant to travel this far with our 7 and 5 year old, but this tour has been very accommodating. They were able to get us bigger rooms because we want all 4 of use to stay in one room instead of 2. The bus is clean, hotels are very nice, food is good. The iteniery is jammed packed so we are not able to spend a lot of time at each location, usually only one hour. But the positive is that we do get to visit a lot of the key tour sites. Our tour guide speaks very good English and always very helpful. I would definitely recommend this company and we would use them again for our next tour.

I am sitting in the airport at the end of my highlights of Japan , anime and Hiroshima tour. It was fantastic we hit a nice balance of geeky/nerdy stuff, historical and cultural activities, and shopping. Everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Our tour guide , Hiroko, was amazing. So patient, prepared, and interesting. She did a great job at comparing and contrasting Japanese and western cultures. Her English and Japanese are superb. She made everything so easy for us as we knew no Japanese . Tour day generally ended around 6, so you had time to explore more on your own or rest of you wanted to. Hotels were nice and varied place to place. This was a trip of a lifetime and we are so happy we did it through this company.

Just completed Japan Deluxe 8 day Golden Route with Anime tour with my wife and we are extremely satisfied. There was a ton of items on our itinerary and we actually were able to see them all. The first half of the tour was packed with amazing temples, shrines, and shopping. The 2nd half was full of the crazy anime stuff we had only been able to see on TV. The guide Hiroko was excellent and made the entire trip fun. She was organized, polite, and there was no language barrier at all. We tracked our distances and our average day required 6-7 miles of walking, so be prepared and bring good walking shoes! This was our first trip to Japan and we were scared from the horror stories we had heard but this company was well organized, made the tour process very painless, and provided all the documentation we requested. When we go back to Japan we will definitely use Japan Deluxe Tours again. The hotels were nice and clean, the bus they chose was comfortable and had good AC, and the food that the tour picked for us was great.

I went on my trip in March 2023 and it was AMAZING. I've been planning to go to Japan for over six years and AJT was able to help me accomplish my dream. From the first time I reached out, everyone I spoke to was incredibly kind and full of knowledge. They were also very patient with my overwhelming amount of questions! The reps at the company let me know what I needed to apply for and fill out, along with due dates and timely reminders. I was also able to add on a 4-day Seoul addition with ease. Our guide, Billy, met us at the airport and was literally the most perfect tour guide. (He even assisted me with picking up my mobile wifi at the airport). I highly recommend him for your tours! He is incredibly knowledgeable about the places we were going. You could even ask him questions about places we passed and he would be able to tell you in-depth, despite it not being a part of the tour. I felt very comfortable with him and in extremely capable hands. I could go on and on about Billy, or the places we visited for days, but to sum it up, this trip, this tour is 100% worth it. AJT is incredibly thorough in helping me organize this whole trip, outside of my flights. I cannot wait to go on another tour with them! 100/10, definitely recommend!

The tour was great and well organized. The guide Billy and driver Nagato-San made all the difference. I haven’t seen a more conscientious guide than Billy. The tour gave a good flavor of different areas of Japan (I believe 19 prefectures?). We got the fully Cherry Blossom experience as well as the sites, food and culture!!! The communication was clear and concise.

I like the tour a lot especially that it was ny first time in japan. I wish all meals were included though and dotonbori included as well. Our tour guide Ms. Kim Kida was great and kind and she did her best during our tour and did above and beyond in handling some of the guests. Our tour driver Mr. Okuda was great as well and made sure our ride was safe.

Me ha ru was great at information. I learned a ton even after doing homework in advance. Japan is lovely. What needs fixed on this tour is timing (multiple over 12 hour days was insanity and even with that we lost a few items off the itinerary because people were DONE), accurate information about timing (stops were often underestimated, and our group was not particularly slow), and the included food was ... Not good (I'm not particularly a fan of japanese but why was there no ramen meal, and multiple meals involving cold rice, and food, including raw food, that was pre plated for Lord knows how long before we got there). People who already liked Japanese food were likewise unimpressed). If those things were fixed this would've been amazing, as it was it was good. Group consensus was that the imperial palace parking lot, the textile overpriced factory and the idea of going up into one of the castles could have been axed. Also, given the weather going up only to station 4 on Mt Fuji was too expensive timewise, a stop below when the mountain was out would've been preferable.

No...no one has replied and we have not been. Probably won't go now until end of 09. If you go, please let me know how it goes and enjoy!

Oh sure! I'll be the guinea pig! Their tours and website do sound great and its the perfect timing, length and where we want to go. Will keep you posted about working with them.

My wife and I are considering this company for a 2010 Cherry Blossom Tour. Most of their stuff (licenses, etc) check out. They are just down the street from where I work so I will drop by and talk to them. I would love to hear from anyone that has used them as their prices are quite reasonable.

My one negative comment would be the confusing communication while booking our trip and the lack of communication after booking it. The phone calls, emails and letters all seemed to have different information - it was a bit frustrating. I never received confirmation that our payment was received and had to call to confirm. The trip package (with a million little swag things) was more for advertisement than information. The trip booklet sent did not have a detailed itinerary at all - just the locales and hotels. We had no idea what we were going to do or see except what is on the original description. Beyond that we didn't have a clue. We didn't even know exactly how we were traveling (it was by bus and our bus driver was great!)

But everything worked out so well - we would definitely recommend the tour group and they are putting together a special festivals tour in August which sounds fabulous. If I go back to Japan - I will most likely include a tour with Japan Deluxe.

Wonderful trip to Japan in April

Wonderful trip to Japan in April. Two of us did a self-guided tour of Japan, with two private day tours. We were very fortunate to have seen so may cherry blossoms, and even an unexpected view of Mt Fuji. And being in Takayama for the Spring Festival was a wonderful experience. InsideJapanTours arranged all accommodation and train/bus/ferry ticketing for the trip, as well as the guide in Tokyo and the guide in Kyoto. The provided detailed Info Pack was easy to follow and the Destination Guides for our stops were a great source of information. We felt very well supported during our travels.

Attention to detail does really count when visiting a country like Japan.

Firstly, excellent listening by Inside Japan to what we wanted to see and experience in Japan. The documentation was excellent and made the trip so much easier. Having the WiFi to G4 mobile facility when out and about was a great idea and worth having. All the hotels were great except perhaps the traditional ryokan which we should have avoided as we didn't participate in the local customs in such a place. We informed Inside Japan of the sort of hotel and room we expect and on the whole had what we wanted. Sometimes having a great city view necessitated a slight compromise in the room, but all were perfectly adequate. All the travel was expertly planned and went without a hitch. We did the suggested excursions and enjoyed them.

Japan is unlike anywhere else

Japan is unlike anywhere else. An alternative reality for the 21st century. InsideJapan brilliantly guide you through this extraordinary country with seamless travel arrangements and well-chosen hotels. You will have a truly memorable trip! The practical side of things like bookings, train reservations or helping to make sense of the public transport system is very well done (although we did make extensive use of taxis as well, in Tokyo and elsewhere). And their local team is very helpful with 24h hour support while you are actually there on your vacation. We had guides for 1 day each in Tokyo and in Kyoto and we provided them with an advance outline of what we expected to cover. This worked very well indeed. The selected hotels are all very well situated and are good at what they do but we might have preferred rather higher end. And some of the advance timetabling for visit dates could have been better. As with anything, the more input you can make at the planning stage, the better the result. Oh, and did I mention the food? Great choices and recommendations from InsideJapan.

Wonderful memories to last a lifetime.

We did the HyperJapan J-Pop & Go and had the most fabulous time. Our tour guide, Yorie, was wonderful and was able to get us to each area and activity as planned. We loved everything about the trip. The hotels were in very good locations, the food was amazing and the activities a great mix to give a taste of the culture of Japan and the craziness of J-pop.

Brilliant service from initial inquiry

Brilliant service from initial inquiry, booking, and tour. Very well organised. Lots of info about places we were staying in as well as general info about Japan. Emailed customer services in Japan about a couple of minor things which were responded to really quickly. Would definitely recommend to book with Insidejapan. We met some Australians and Americans in Japan who had also booked with them and they were very happy too!

Two weeks in Japan

Guides on two days, tickets for the train and in Hakune, advise on where to go. Less good were the tiny rooms, being left in an hour Q for a taxi in Kyoto, arriving at our house before it was ready with four big suitcases. More guiding would have been good and I would not recommend Osaka unless you really like bustling cities with grimy tourist areas and nothing of real interest for tourists.

We could not have asked for a better guide. She knew how to navigate the busy Japanese season and how to shift when necessary. Always nice and professional (even when a few quests were high maintenance) The variety of food and dining experiences was excellent from sushi and tempura to a multi-course Japanese meal to bentos on the train. Hotels were all good - did a great job of orcestrating a great hotel to land at 1st to a ryokan experience.

Nice but Not first class

Our companions were great. We saw everything we were supposed to. But it was not really first l]class as we expected. Food choices were quantity and price based (not quality) and became boring. Our guide was competent but was focused of his schedule and needs more that reading the group and adjusting to ours. Pace was exhausting no time to get that Jappanese mellow moment.

We had an amazing holiday. Japan was all we had hoped for. The group worked so well, we all got on and became good friends. Shingo, our guide was totally great. He was so pleasant and helpful. His English not brilliant but he did a great job. We felt maybe a little more information on places and sights might have been good. He was constantly helping us all and looking after us. He made great suggestions for meals and always checked up on us all, even when we split into smaller groups for the evening. He went way beyond what he could have done and made everyone feel safe and well looked after. He even helped booking all our onward travel and ensured we were all ok on the day. Wonderful man!! The hotels were nice, if a little small with almost no storage in most of them! Breakfasts were generally very good. We saw and did so much. In fact, we felt sometimes it was a little too much to fit into each day, and either missed some things out or were too rushed, missing stopping and looking at leisure at things and shops etc. Shingo was so patient, even when we caused him to run a little late! Due to distances covered we spent a lot of time travelling which was an interesting experience. Just meant time at destinations was a little short. As Most of us were older we all felt very tired at the end of each day and struggled especially when we had to carry back packs whilst waiting to be reunited with luggage. Dont know what the answer is, if extra days added, then expense goes up. If itinerary cut back, then Interesting sights missed out! Overall, a truly great trip. We enjoyed it all!

This tour was fantastic. The tour owners are foodies so we were told and it showed. The tour itself was terrific and well organized but on top of that the restaurant and other food choices etc. were just stellar.

This tour is a fabulous introduction to Japan. It is fast paced with lots of walking and use of Japan’s massive transportation system- from the bullet train to the subway with someone to guide you through the complexities. Our guide, Mika, was exceptional making sure each individual’s needs were met and sharing her vast knowledge of the country and culture. The itinerary was varied from big city to country side and we found the Japanese people to always be polite and helpful. The group is limited to 15 or less so you get to know everyone. We were fortunate to have a great group.
