I failed to alert her ahead of time that two of our group were gluten-free but she made the best of it and offered them alternatives on the fly where possible. Some of us were out of towners and some were born & raised in Cleveland but the tour appealed to everyone with lots of insider information about the history of the market and the individual vendors that you would not have access to knowing if touring on your own. we would have liked a map of the market or a listing of the vendors that we visited so that we could find them easily after the tour to return and make purchases from them. The vendors were gracious and generous with their samples. Only change I'd make would be to get business cards from where we sampled. After the tour we went back and made several purchases. Loved almost all of the food stops along the way - the jerky was a revelation! Also nice that it was less overwhelming than some other markets (Reading Terminal or Pike Place) in big cities. A good way to see more of Cleveland than the downtown areas. Great Lakes Brewing is right next door too if you're into beer. Read more Written 28 August 2023

Barbara was our guide and she was absolutely fantastic. She is extremely knowledgeable about Cleveland and its history and culture. This knowledge and her willingness to share and answer questions added a great deal to this tour. The locations we visited had charm and character and the food was delicious and plentiful. I can highly recommend this tour if you are visitor or a resident of Cleveland. Read more Written 6 June 2023

We are used to Reading terminal market in Philadelphia and thought there would be more prepared food items and a place to sit and eat. There is a small restaurant inside the market and if you live in the area many fresh food stands to pick up for home. Would not recommend if you are staying in a hotel m Read more Written 20 April 2023

The description says we should of had Firebrick pizza, a meat & cheese platter, chocolate paired with wine or craft beer which we didn’t receive anything along the lines of this! The description made it seem like we were receiving 4-6 different items and we only made 3 stops. The tour guide wasn’t loud enough and didn’t do a very good job explaining what types of food we were receiving or explaining the history of the restaurants. Ann is fantastic - she’s very much a people person and shared her wealth of knowledge about Tremont and Cleveland. • SherylM1966 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Great food, Average Guide I had taken the Tremont Food tour several years ago with the same company and it was an amazing experience. The guide was from the area, very personable and had a lot of great stories This time, I took my BF to Tremont/Cleveland for his 50th birthday celebration in hopes of having a similar experience. The food was great and all of the hosts were friendly however, the guide (Steven) was a disappointment. He was pleasant enough but had to use index cards as reference for the tour and I believe he has been with the company more than a year. He glossed over a lot of the highlights and at one point, someone in the tour that was from the area was giving HIM information. We had some nice ladies that were not wearing appropriate shoes for a walking tour but the group was small and we didn't mind the pace. Steven stayed up front with a husband and wife couple with no regard for the others in the group. We got the impression that he really wasn't interested in being a tour guide that day but he made sure to remind up that tips were appreciated. Before you book the tour, you may want to ask who the guide is for that day. Good tour, great food selection and a wonderful neighborhood. Read more Written 2 September 2022

Ann was very knowledgeable, provided a lot of historical details and background information mixed with fun trivia. Her experience clearly showed. That’s Amore! A Guide to Cleveland’s Little Italy

Cleveland’s Little Italy comes alive in the summer, especially during the Feast of the Assumption coming Aug. 12-15. However, the neighborhood provides a cornucopia of family-owned shops, mouth-watering food and timeless traditions year-round. Here’s your guide to one of The Land’s most delicious hot spots.

The Food: The Little Italy restaurant scene is a mix of traditional Italian fare, modern cuisine and plenty of pizza. Please check with each establishment for its hours of operation and if they are offering dining-in, carryout or takeout.

Algebra Teahouse

Angelo’s Nido Italia Traditional not trendy, in atmosphere and food, you can expect Sinatra or Dino on the soundtrack and chicken piccata, veal marsala and cavatelli with marinara or meat sauce on the menu. It’s popular for private parties and special events and has live music on weekends. 12020 Mayfield Road, 216-421-0221, nidoitalia.com

Blue Sky Brews With its modern and sleek design, this corner shop serves up fresh espresso drinks, coffee and tea. Sit in the cafe with your favorite book or catch up on work with an iced latte. 2187 Murray Hill Road, 216-417-8080, blueskybrews.com

Corbo’s Bakery If there’s something better than an Italian lemon ice on a hot summer day, we don’t know what is. Pull up a chair and spoon up a scoop along with biscotti at this bakery and cafe, or pick up one of its famed cassata cakes to take home. 12210 Mayfield Road, 216-421-8181, corbosbakery.net

Etna Restaurant This little corner spot retains the cozy feel of the tavern it once was, but now guests order bottles of fine Italian red instead of shots and beers. Maiale al Rosmarino – sauteed slices of pork tenderloin with mushrooms, white wine, rosemary and cream — demonstrate how the Sicilian-born chef and owner Peppe Pilumeli puts his own spin on Italian cuisine . 11919 Mayfield Road, 216-791-7670, etnalittleitaly.com

Guarino’s Victorian-style decor and lace-curtain charm set the tone at Cleveland’s oldest restaurant in its original location. The red sauce still tops classics such as spaghetti and meatballs and manicotti. The patio’s a sweet, secluded spot, and in the summer, beds are planted with basil for caprese salads. 12309 Mayfield Road, 216-231-3100, guarinoscleveland.com

La Dolce Vita Life is good when it included Terry Tarantino’s fettuccine Fellini: flat, fat pasta strands tossed with tomato chunks, pancetta and Gorgonzola. It gets even better if followed by cannoli and cappuccino. Streetside tables offer the quintessential urban dining experience. 12112 Mayfield Road, 216-721-8155, clevelandladolcevita.com

La Pizzeria Get your pie here, whether you want a single hot slice or a 40-cut sheet. Choose from 21 toppings, 12 gourmet house creations and surprising apple or cherry dessert pizzas. There are a few tables, but this is really a takeout and delivery joint. 2188 Murray Hill Road, 216-229-9050, lapizzerialittleitaly.com

Lounge Leo This bar is a hidden gem tucked in the edge of Little Italy. Specializing in pub food, unique cocktails and draft beers, stop in to have a drink or spend time with friends. 2161 Murray Hill Road, 216-600-9733, facebook.com/loungeleo

Mama Santa's

Maxi’s Grab a table opposite the bar that runs the length of the long, narrow dining room, or ask for a seat out back under an umbrella. Old-schoolers can dig into stewed tripe or linguine and meatballs. If you want something more modern, try the goat cheese ravioli or smoked salmon pizza. 12113 Mayfield Road, 216-421-1500, maxisbistro.com

Mia Bella

Michaelangelo’s The best description is chef and owner Michael Annandono’s own: “We do fine dining without the stuffiness.” Enjoy an upscale setting in a renovated building with a comfy wine bar (great list) and upper-level deck. The handmade gnocchi in hazelnut pesto is unforgettable. 2198 Murray Hill Road, 216-721-0300, mangelos.com

Murray Hill Market This old-fashioned-looking corner store is filled with the smell of rotisserie-roasted beef, pork and poultry. Basic groceries and gourmet foods are on one side; a deli counter is on the other. The Italian BLT, pancetta with warm brie and balsamic-drizzled arugula on a toasted baguette, is inspired. 2072 Murray Hill Road, 216-791-1900, murrayhillmarket.net

Presti's Bakery

TOLI TOLI is a spin on a sports and wine bar and has a wide variety of food and drinks to offer guests. The history of Little Italy is engrained in TOLI, including the vintage photos hung up in its bathroom. The spaghetti aglio e olio is a classic dish that will leave you wanting more, paired well with wide selection of draft beers or wines. 12117 Mayfield Road, 216-331-1069, tolicleveland.com

Trattoria Roman Garden Generous portions have been standard at this casual, family friendly place since 1984. The antipasto platter, loaded with marinated eggplant, roasted peppers, tuna bean salad, calamari salad, carrot salad, olives and cheese is a great way to start a meal inside or out on the patio . 12207 Mayfield Road, 216-421-2700, trattoriaromangarden.com

Valerios V is for chef and owner Valerio Iorio and his winning ways with veal. There’s the 32-ounce long bone ribeye, tortellini stuffed with ricotta and lemon chicken breast. 12405 Mayfield Road, 216-421-8049, valeriosristorante.com

Experience overview:.

The majority of Italian immigrants came to Ohio in the late 19th and early 20th century. Cleveland's Little Italy brought together these families that shared a common bond as they started a life in a new, exciting country.

As the years passed and the community immigrated into the rest of the community, one thing in the neighborhood has never changed is the food. The best Italian and Italian American cuisine can still be found in the area, in restaurants all within walking distance of each other.

Our Little Italy Food Tour will explore the Cleveland Italian culture that has existed for generations; its people, its philosophies, and most importantly its food. We will enjoy specialized dishes from a variety of restaurants; some long standing, some new to the area, while we take time to appreciate the contributions of Cleveland's rich Italian culture.

Your food tour may include the following:

  • House made artisinal pastas from an award winning chef
  • Classic Sicilian dishes from a 30 year old family run restaurant
  • Deliciously prepared Northern Italian Cuisine
  • Traditional Italian desserts from a bakery visited by Food Network celebrity chef, Mario Batali

Little Italy Food Tour Reviews

Little Italy

The land of carbs and canoli.

We’re all Italian when we encounter the mom-and-pop restaurants, cafes and bakeries in Cleveland’s 100+ year-old Little Italy. This colorful, old-world neighborhood is home to people and stories rich in culture. Locals and visitors alike flock to these blocks for delicious food, art galleries and hidden gems galore. Parking may be a bit challenging, but everything in this neighborhood is walkable.

Located at the base of Murray Hill near the campus of Case Western Reserve University, this neighborhood thrives on community, faith and Euro vibes. You’ll feel like you’re walking around a charming little town right out of Italy with its narrow streets, majestic churches and cozy Italian eateries like Cleveland’s oldest restaurant, Guarino’s.

Spend a few hours slowly perusing Little Italy’s art galleries or take home some imported foods and other goods. Smell the fresh bakery from Pretsi’s or Corbo’s, and grab some to eat now, later or both—we won’t tell. Lounge on a historic patio and try delicious Italian pasta specialties with a nice glass of vino. With tons of yearly events like the vibrant Feast of the Assumption, regular art walks and the Taste of Little Italy (think mouthwatering, giant meatballs), no one goes hungry here.

Old World Charm Near World-Class Museums

Italian immigrants founded the area that is now Mayfield and Murray Hill Roads. Close to several Cleveland museums – like the world-class Cleveland Museum of Art – and Case Western Reserve University, just east of Downtown, this beloved neighborhood is a highlight for students, travelers, downtown residents and suburbanites alike.

Sip, Stroll and Taste

Walking around and exploring food, drink and art is the main attraction here. Wander through art galleries and boutique shops before deciding which authentic Italian eatery to feast at before wishing everyone “Buona notte.” Browse (and sample) the array of wines, cheese and unique gifts at Little Italy Wines. Snack on Italian sweets from cannoli to tiramisu at Corbo’s bakery. Then, visit the heart and soul of the neighborhood, the Baroque-styled Holy Rosary Church, the epicenter of the yearly “Feast” built in 1910.

From Our Sponsors

Festivals galore.

The streets fill every August for The Feast of the Assumption, a 120+ year-old festival that’s a five-block extravaganza of tangy marinara and delicious carbs in every form imaginable for four days. And the streets come alive with talented works from vendors, galleries and studios during Summer Art Walks.

2024 Little Italy Summer ArtWalk

This neighborhood fulfills all your wildest pizza, pasta and bakery fantasies. Take your pick of historic (think old-world charm) mom and pop restaurants serving up the good stuff made from family recipes.

A must-visit for first-timers, the famous Mama Santa’s has been filling everyone’s bellies with some of the best pizza and pasta around since 1961. An iconic red neon-sign lures hungry Clevelanders into La Dolce Vita (great fresh sea fare, too), where you’ll be treated to dinner and a show on opera night. Before heading home, grab cannoli, tiramisu or a slice of the most heavenly cassata cake you’ll ever encounter at Presti’s bakery.

Home Bistro

Tavern of little italy, la dolce vita bistro, corbo's bakery, cleveland neighborhoods: little italy, 48 hours in cle: wallet-friendly couples weekend, 48 hours in cle: the classics, cle’s east side brunch spots, trip planner: pack up the minivan for family fun in cle, welcoming walkable streets.

No, you’ll never mistake the vibrant vistas of Little Italy with a trip to Rome, but its classic Cleveland charm and warmth is nonetheless infectious.
