Six Reasons Why Going To Gigs Alone Is The Best
So you want to go see that metalcore band you love but none of your friends like that “shouty” music? Or you REALLY want to go check out that new artist on TikTok you discovered but all your mates won’t go to a gig where they only know one song? Or worse, your group of friends cannot get themselves organized and work out which show and when to go on a tour, so you’re worried you’ll miss out on tickets. Let them be miserable and start living your best life by going to concerts by yourself. Trust us, it’ll be the best thing you’ll ever do!
Going to gigs alone can be daunting. What am I going to do with myself in between sets? Are people going to think I’m weird? Why would I not want to share the experience?
Listen, we are all for sharing the experience, but sometimes it’s either missing out or going alone, and in those cases we definitely recommend going alone. Here’s a few reasons why you’ll never regret it once you build up the courage to go through with it.
1 . See artists you really REALLY want to see
Imagine the FOMO of missing your favourite band on their new tour, hearing all those new songs live, seeing everyone post about it. Don’t let that happen, and get that ticket. Plus you then get to tell the pals who didn’t want to come how you saw that band or artist before they blew up or how they played that one B-side track that everyone loves – now who has FOMO?
2. Meet new friends
It’s no secret that music brings people together. That moment when everyone’s favourite ballad hits and there’s not a dry eye in the building, you turn to your left or right and suddenly you bond with a stranger over your favourite song. For the metalheads, we also recommend mosh pits, follow the rules of the pit but what a way to make new friends!
3. The freedom
Now hear us out – but going to a gig alone means you can get to the venue when you want, you can go to the loos when you want, you can stand in line at the merch for hours and no one will ask if you’re sure you want to wait. And no one will drag you home when you want to wait after the show has finished and find every piece of confetti or ask for the setlist.
4 . It’s a cult
You are not alone in going to gigs by yourself, you’d probably be surprised by how many people do the same thing. Some fan groups even have entire sub cultures of going to gigs alone (shoutout to Frank Turner’s solo armada, we see you!) – bringing us back to reason #2, new friends.
5. Confidence boost
Going to a gig by yourself will do wonders for your confidence. Sure the first time might feel a bit awkward and weird, but isn’t it always? Remember your first day of school? And then it was kind of okay after a while (let’s ignore our teenage years…) Once you’ve done it and experience all of the divinity of a solo gig you’ll feel free as a bird.
6. Experience the music your way
Whether you love hanging out by the bar, need to be front row, prefer seats or want to leave a bit earlier to catch the last train – the world is your oyster! The experience is yours, you don’t need to coordinate with someone else, rely on them to enjoy the show as much as you are and have as much of a good time as you are. And frankly, if you took a chance on a new genre or new artist and it isn’t your vibe, you can just go home. Glorious.

As well as headlining Reading & Leeds 2023, the US band will head out on a short tour of the country
Published on
The Killers have confirmed a short run of UK and Ireland tour dates to complement their headline slots at Reading & Leeds 2023 .
After topping the bill at the twin festivals next August, the Las Vegas-conceived band will head to Scotland, where there will hold their first-ever show in Edinburgh. The group will headline the Royal Highland Centre Showgrounds on August 29.
In September, The Killers will continue the brief tour at Belfast’s Boucher Road Playing Fields before heading to Stradbally to headline the 2023 edition of Electric Picnic.

Tickets for the Edinburgh and Belfast shows will both go on sale at 9am GMT on Monday (December 12). Edinburgh tickets will be available to purchase here , while Belfast tickets will go on sale here .
The short tour follows the band’s massive, sold-out stadium tour this summer , which saw The Killers play to 400,000 fans at shows, including two euphoric nights at London’s Emirates Stadium.
The new dates are the latest to be added to what looks set to be a busy schedule for The Killers next summer. Previously, the band were confirmed to be performing at Atlanta, GA’s Shaky Knees festival alongside Muse and The Lumineers.
Meanwhile, the group’s latest album, Pressure Machine , was released in 2021 and was followed up by the standalone single “boy” in August. Written before the songs that made up Pressure Machine , the themes explored in “boy” helped lead frontman and principal songwriter Brandon Flowers to the subjects that would eventually be the focus of that record.
“This was the first song written after we had to cancel the Imploding The Mirage tour due to the pandemic,” Flowers explained in a press release at the time. “I had recently moved back to Utah and started to make trips to Nephi, where I grew up. I found that the place I had wanted to get away from so desperately at 16 was now a place that I couldn’t stop returning to.
“I have a son approaching the age I was at that time in my life. With ‘boy’, I want to reach out and tell myself – and my sons – to not overthink it. And to look for the ‘white arrows’ in their lives. For me now, white arrows are my wife, children, my songs and the stage.”
Buy or stream “Boy.” View The Killers’ tour itinerary below.

The best UK outdoor concert series for 2023
Beattie on a bandstand, Primal in the park, Hozier in Halifax… the best open-air concert series around the UK this summer
Summer is all about taking things you usually do indoors and doing them outdoors instead. Drinks on the veranda, steaks on the barbecue, dinner on the patio, baths in the paddling pool… wait… what? You know what else is great outdoors? No! Stop that. Gigs! For those now lacking the stamina for an entire festival weekend, the last decade has seen an explosion of the festival’s close cousin: the outdoor gig series. After all, the only thing better than one outdoor gig is a load of outdoor gigs. These balmy nights of big-name shows have grown massively in popularity, popping up in all sorts of lovely locations, from parks to seaside resorts to stately homes. Here are a few of the best outdoor concert series for summer 2023 and beyond.
All Points East
The lovely folks behind APE are better than most when it comes to curating a line-up. A lot of consideration has clearly gone into crafting the vibe for each day of this year’s run in Victoria Park. Stormzy’s This Is What We Mean organisation has an entire day, bringing along Kehlani, Sampha, Ms Banks and loads more. The Strokes with The Yeah Yeah Yeahs is a 00s paradise, while Haim with Confidence Man, Tove Lo and Girl In Red has summer bliss written all over it. Let’s not forget Field Day either. Bonobo, Aphex Twin and Fever Ray might be the best electronic line-up to ever grace the UK. Victoria Park, London | 18 – 28 August | Get tickets
Brighton Valley Series
Tom Jones, N-Dubz, Paolo Nutini and Nile Rogers & Chic all headline a poptastic schedule at Stanmer Park, just down the road from the Amex Stadium. Stamner Park, Brighton | 5 – 9 July | Get tickets
Where once there was Hard Rock Calling, now there’s British Summer Time (BST to its mates). The line-up gets bigger every year, although it’s hard to see how they’ll ever go bigger than Billy Joel, P!nk (twice), Bruce Springsteen (twice), Take That, Guns N’ Roses, Lana del Rey and Blackpink. Hyde Park, London | 23 June – 9 July | Get tickets
Cardiff Bay Series
Brighton Valley’s dancier cousin comes to Alexandra Bay in September with Scooter, The Chemical Brothers, The Streets and N-Dubz. You’ll need a helmet to protect you from all those shapes being thrown. Alexandra Bay, Cardiff | 6 – 9 September | Get tickets
Live At The Piece Hall
Halifax’s Piece Hall is an 18th century cloth hall now reborn as one of the country’s best outdoor venues. A long list of shows runs right into August, covering every base possible with Orbital, boygenius, James, Limp Bizkit, The Cult, Sting, George Ezra, The Lumineers, The Charlatans and more. The Piece Hall, Halifax | Now – 26 August | Get tickets
Lytham Festival
What began life as the Lytham Proms has grown exponentially into one of the highlights of the summer on the North West coast. This years boasts the return of space cowboy Jamiroquai, the soothing baritone of George Ezra, more hair and leather than Game Of Thrones with Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe, a new wave bill from heaven with Blondie supporting Sting and era-spanning pop titan Lionel Richie. Lytham Green, Lytham St-Annes | 28 June – 2 July | Get tickets
Margate Summer Series
The concert series that has audiences literally in Dreamland. Margate Summer Series is that rare opportunity to see massive acts and also go on a few rides in between. A well-laid-out site also gives a compact feel to proceedings, so you feel up close and personal with the likes of Tom Jones, Primal Scream, Olly Murs, McFly, Bastille and more. It’s a summer holiday and a gig all in one. Dreamland, Margate | Now – 30 September | Get tickets
Scarborough Open Air Theatre
Scarborough’s neatly laid-out theatre is a perfect amphitheatre. It’s tiered sections mean you actually get to see Dermot Kennedy, Pulp, Hollywood Vampires and the like, and not just the sunburnt neck of the really tall bloke in front of you. Scarborough, Yorkshire | Now – 23 August | Get tickets
Somerset House Summer Series
This gorgeous series by the Strand is known for going beyond the obvious in search of its headliners. This year is another great example, with Young Fathers, Interpol, Gabriels, beabadoobee, Greentee Peng and more. Somerset House, London | 6 – 16 July | Get tickets
Sounds Of The City
This annual series offers city centre shows in Manchester and Leeds, with headliners including Blossoms, The Lathums, McFly, Morrissey and more. Castlefield Bowl, Manchester and Millenium Square, Leeds | 29 June – 12 July | Get tickets
South Facing
Crystal Palace Park has one of the richest musical histories of any green space in the country and South Facing has played a massive role in bringing live music back to the park. This year sees Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, First Aid Kit, Primal Scream and more to the historic bowl. Crystal Palace Park, London | 28 July – 13 August | Get tickets
Summer Nights At The Bandstand
Last but not least, we head north of the border for the annual outdoor shindig at Kelvingrove Bandstand. A top-notch line-up includes headliners Siouxsie, Anastacia, Glasvegas, Jack Savoretti, Squeeze, Callum Beattie, Sophie Ellis Bextor and more. And it’s not really summer in Scotland unless Del Amitri show up, which they will. Twice! Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow | 25 July – 12 August | Get tickets

Coldplay announce 2023 UK & European dates for the Music Of The Spheres World Tour!
The morning after completing their triumphant run of six sold out nights at London’s Wembley Stadium, Coldplay have today announced further European and UK stadium shows for their Music Of The Spheres World Tour in Summer 2023.
The dates include the tour’s first visits to Portugal , Spain , Italy , Switzerland , Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands , alongside UK shows in Manchester and Cardiff . Since the band’s record-breaking tour began in Costa Rica in March 2022, more than four million tickets have been sold for the dates in Latin America, North America and Europe, which have attracted rave reviews from fans and critics alike (as per the recent praise for the Wembley shows above).
The tour has also been heralded for its groundbreaking set of sustainability initiatives which include a show powered by 100% renewable energy in almost all locations; the world’s first tourable battery system (made from 40 BMW electric car batteries); power bikes and kinetic dancefloors allowing fans to help power the show; solar panels and wind turbines at every venue; a pledge to cut tour emissions by 50%; incentives to encourage fans to travel by green transport; and one tree planted for every ticket sold.

The new tour dates were teased via Easter eggs in the band’s new video for Humankind (taken from their number one album, Music Of The Spheres ) which premiered last week. We’ve now seen enough stories, interviews and admittedly convincing speculation to start seriously wondering whether Bugzy Malone is going to fight Floyd Mayweather.
Yes, in case you haven’t been keeping an eye on this story which looks to be gradually building more and more momentum, UK rapper and actor Bugzy Malone is being linked with a possible boxing match with one of the most successful fighters to have ever lived, Floyd Mayweather Jr.
One of the biggest and most anticipated match-ups in years is just around the corner between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk (no, it’s actually happening this time, honest) but some fans now have their eye on an arguably more exciting exhibition that could take place right here in Manchester.
In fact, it’s now become such a genuine possibility that Bugzy himself, real name Aaron Daniel Davies, even addressed the rumours head-on in a recent interview with Eddie Hearn .
Bugzy Malone reveals to Eddie Hearn how rumours about him fighting Floyd Mayweather started 🥊👀 Listen to @EddieHearn : No Passion, No Point on BBC Sounds 🎧👊 https://t.co/KRZpLWaPnl #bbcboxing #bmalone pic.twitter.com/FdMpiIKmqu — BBC 5 Live Sport (@5liveSport) April 19, 2024
As the local grime artist from Crumpsall reveals in his sit down with the boxing mogul, who said that people in the industry had been hearing talk of a fight for some time, Floyd himself is said to have asked someone to contact Bugzy about a potential fight by way of a ‘private jet’ enquiry, no less.
Random one, for sure, but that’s just rich people things.
As detailed in the full episode of Hearn’s No Passion, No Point podcast for the BBC, it was actually Mayweather Senior who apparently saw a video of the Manc rapper training online and went on to suggest the fight to his son.
Having seen his physique and admitting he “looks strong”, and Bugzy’s love of boxing well-documented – a discipline he turned to earlier in his career to try and ‘stay out of trouble’ – Mayweather Jr then had this call set up and quickly began a discussion surrounding potential fight papers.
The 33-year-old even addressed the contract being ‘on the table’ in a snippet from the song ‘Daily Duppy’ from his latest album, The Great British Dream , which dropped on Friday, 10 May.
@FloydMayweather heard you wanna fight? 🤔 Somebody go tell him i’m down! 💯💯💯 Anyway, Daily Duppy out now… #TheGreatBritishDream pic.twitter.com/yrKHt0XBvK — Bugzy Malone (@TheBugzyMalone) March 21, 2024
Only ever having really plied his trade in the amateur arena, the prospective bout obviously wouldn’t be a full professional fight and with Mayweather having already taken on a number of exhibitions – most notably against influencer Logan Paul – his interest was already believable even before Hearn’s interview.
As Bugzy confessed in the chat, he had already been offered multiple fights in the past but had turned them down due to the advent of “ YouTube boxing “, insisting that he’s “not really interested in stepping into it”, but a credible offer for an actual fight against a legendary sportsman would turn anyone’s head.
Mayweather famously boasts a 50-0 unbeaten record, including 27 knockouts and 12 world championships in five different weight classes. Well, Bugzy won Best Grime Act at the MOBOs this year, so shove it.
Fellow boxing promoter Spencer Fearon also weighed in on how plausible the punch-up currently is, going on to corroborate details surrounding said offer made by the private jet company backed by millionaires and adding that Bugzy “can actually fight”, for those who were wondering about his ability.

- Liam Gallagher says he’ll ‘gig in Lidl’ if Co-op Live still isn’t ready – and they sound up for it
- Pubs can extend their opening hours if England make it to the Euro 2024 semi-finals
As Fearon puts it, the fight is “one million per cent genuine”, it’s a case of both sides being willing to pull the trigger and decide on things like the fight purse etc.
As for when we could expect to see this fight, who knows? However, there are indications it could happen later this year and the Manchester native would obviously want to have it at the AO Arena where the likes of Fury, Ricky Hatton, Anthony Crolla and others from the region have fought before him.
If you’ve seen even one picture of Bugzy Malone before you’ll know the man keeps himself in shape, but you only have to take a glance at the top of his Instagram page to see he’s been training pretty hard since last summer.
The question is, will the stars align and could, say, summer 2024 be the moment in sporting and entertainment crossover history that we get to see Bugzy Malone take on Floyd Mayweather in the ring?

A UK card company has decided to join in with the pile on over Co-op Live’s chaotic ‘opening’ weeks by creating a series of greeting and birthday cards mocking the arena and its ongoing saga.
If you’re a deeply sarcastic person who struggles to be sincere with those you hold nearest and dearest or simply want to get a co-worker something that says we care that you’re leaving but not so much as to let go without one final dig, these are right up your street.
After multiple cancellations, postponements and gigs being rescued by the AO Arena and more, it’s no secret that things could barely have gotten off to a worse start for the Co-op Live, having been described as ‘the Manchester Fyre Festival’ among a number of unflattering comparisons.
So, with that in mind, greeting card company thortful – who are just as good at novelty as they are being actually thoughtful when it comes to words – have come up with a few clever little ways of wishing someone a happy birthday or congratulating them on their new home at the arena’s expense.
Not bad, to be fair.
Tim Leiweke, Chairman and CEO of Oak View Group (which owns and operates Co-op Live), recently released a statement offering his ‘sincere apologies’ and explaining the steps being taken during the venue’s ‘short pause’.
He admitted, “It’s not been the smooth start we had planned for, and I know that has caused a huge amount of disruption and frustration to thousands of people”, adding that they are “working incredibly hard to get the building up and running, and we look forward to welcoming you to the arena from 14 May 2024.”
The London-based card company is known for lots of comedy captions and with every Tom, Dick and Harry taking a pop at the venue already, they clearly thought ‘We might as well join in’.
In fact, they’ve been taking the mick ever since the whole thing kicked off.

- Keane’s Manchester gig has finally been rescheduled after Co-op Live postponement
- KFC have launched their own perfume – oh, and a new BBQ-style burger
- Everton manager Sean Dyche randomly pops up in the music video for Blossoms’ new single
The date mentioned above will see Manc music legends Elbow arrive as the venue’s new opening act artists after so many other acts ended up having their gigs pulled and we can only hope and pray that everything is on course for next week.
With more and more names being announced for their 2024 and 2025 calendar left right and centre, the most recent being rapper Travis Scott , it looks as though they’re confident that the arena will open and live up to the expectations it has built up given its billing as the biggest indoor entertainment in the UK.
As for thortful and everyone else, we just have to wait with bated breath to see if there’s set to be another twist in this tale and enjoy the light-hearted jokes in the meantime.

- Here, There and Everywhere 2023
Here, There and Everywhere outlines the impact of the eagerly anticipated resurgence of live music in 2022 – the first full year of post-pandemic festivals, gigs and concerts in the UK, and shows the international reputation of the UK’s live music events.
Page actions
Share this page, you are here.
Music tourists were attracted by the return of major events such as Glastonbury, where headliners included Sir Paul McCartney, and UK tours by top British artists, including Dua Lipa, Stormzy, Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran and Elton John.
The key findings for 2022 of Here, There and Everywhere include:
- Total number of music tourists attending live music events across the UK in 2022 was 14.4 million.
- Total number of foreign music tourists in 2022 was 1.1 million.
- Total number of domestic music tourists in 2022 was 13.3 million.
- Total music tourism spending in 2022 was £6.6 billion.
- Total employment sustained by music tourism in 2022 was 56,000.
The data also revealed that:
- Total attendance at UK festivals and concerts in 2022 was 37.1 million.
- A total of 6.5 million music fans attended festivals in the UK in 2022.
- A total of 30.6 million people attended concerts (which includes everything from arena shows to grassroots gigs).
UK Music estimates that the £6.6 billion that music tourism supported last year could increase significantly by 2030 – with the right support from Government, local councils and others to spread growth and job across the UK.
A key part of the report focuses on the action that towns and cities across the UK can take to use music to help turbo-charge their local economies and support jobs.
A special toolkit (Music Powerhouses Toolkit: A Guide For Towns, Cities and Regions) outlines how local authorities and others can utilise existing funding and spaces to help music thrive across the UK.
The toolkit includes four recommendations for local councils on how to build their own music communities:
- Use data to ensure music is at the heart of planning and licensing policy.
- Create a register of available spaces and places to support music activities.
- Enshrine music and the local community in regeneration and development.
- Set up or support city-wide music advisory boards.
Here, There and Everywhere also features a breakdown of music tourism data for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – as well as in the eight English regions.

Glasgow Jazz Festival
19-23 June Glasgow, Scotland From £28

Isle Of Wight
20-23 June Seaclose Park, Isle of Wight £270
The iconic IOW festival packs a real nostalgic punch this year with headliners The Prodigy, Green Day and Pet Shop Boys. The Streets, Johnny Marr, Keane and Suede will be ensuring everyone can feel 20 again. As will The Darkness, S Club, Simple Minds and The Pretenders. You know what you’re getting here. The official theme is ‘summer solstice’, so don’t forget your midsummer folklore gear.
Glastonbury
26-30 June Worthy Farm, Somerset £355
The Eavis family have corrected last year’s all-male headliner misstep and booked pop sensation Dua Lipa, R&B superstar SZA and the one and only Shania Twain, who will perform in the legends slot on Sunday afternoon. Coldplay also get top billing, performing after Little Simz, who is surely edging closer to her own headline slot. Anyway, the real fun is to be had elsewhere, with absolutely loads of amazing acts over the weekend.
29 June Queen’s Park, Glasgow £63.25
Beloved Glaswegian noise wranglers Mogwai have put together a strong line-up for their first hometown festival. As well as a headline set from the organisers, expect NEU’s Michael Rother to give a krautrock masterclass, subversive pop thrills from Nadine Shah and shoegazing soundscapes from a resurgent Slowdive. White Rabbit books – publishers of Mogwai mainman Stuart Braithwaite’s excellent memoir, Spaceships Over Glasgow – will also host a literary tent.
The best UK festivals in July 2024
Love supreme.
5-7 July Glynde Place, East Sussex £177
Widely renowned as one of the best jazz and soul festivals on the circuit, Love Supreme always draws in the big hitters, and this year is no different. Get down to Chaka Khan and Kool & The Gang, enjoy a huge singalong with Dionne Warwick and groove with New Orleans maestro Trombone Shorty and UK neo-soul sensation Olivia Dean.
10-13 July Upcote Farm, Gloucestershire From £196.50 / day tickets from £36
Voted the best medium-sized festival at the 2023 UK Festival Awards, 2000Trees is an independent rock affair with a firm focus on community and a loyal following. Headlining this year are US rockers and Springsteen favourites The Gaslight Anthem, Aussie ‘shed rockers’ The Chats and Bedford’s Don Broco – in what will be their only UK live show of 2024. Last year’s headliner Frank Turner also returns, alongside much-hyped electro-rockers Wargasm, Bob Vylan and Welsh indie veterans Los Campesinos!
11-14 July Eastnor Castle Deer Park, Herefordshire From £255
Do some yoga, meditate, relax in a hot tub and then dance the night away at a festival hosted by the UK’s top party starters Cirque du Soul. You can see why it’s called El Dorado. Gracing the stages at this intimate gathering are Geordie rap star Casisdead, disco-pop titans Boney M and DJ/producer/vocalist sensation Eliza Rose.
Funk And Soul Weekender
12-14 July Dreamland, Margate From £99.50
This funk and soul extravaganza by the sea does what it says on the tin – it doesn’t get much funkier than Nile Rodgers & Chic, does it? Dance the night away with banging sets from Norman Jay, Craig Charles and Horse Meat Disco.
Mostly Jazz
12-14 July Moseley Park, Birmingham £170
This jazz, funk and soul festival in the second city’s suburbs has an incredible ability to ensure you only need to stop dancing to go to the bar. Kool & The Gang, London jazz star Yussef Dayes and Leftfield headline, with jazz-funk legends The Blackbyrds also performing. The Kurupt FM boys are also in town with their hilarious and actually-quite-competent UK garage set.
12-14 July Glasgow Green, Glasgow From £210
You know what you’re in for at this Scottish big hitter, which this year welcomes Liam Gallagher, Gerry Cinnamon and Calvin Harris. It’s not the most diverse line-up on this list – with other acts including Chase & Status, The Courteeners and Blossoms. But it’s nice to see Garbage on the bill, and much-hyped band The Last Dinner Party are also playing.
Tropical Pressure
12-14 July Mount Pleasant Eco Park, Cornwall £155
This festival celebrates the vibrant cultures of Latin America, Africa and the Caribbean. Musical highlights include creator of the Afrolectric sound Franck Biyong and psychedelic Afrofunk from Hannabiell & Midnight Blue.
12-14 July Finsbury Park, London From £94.60
The annual celebration of modern rap, hip-hop and Afrobeats keeps bringing in the top names from around the world. Nicki Minaj, Future and Doja Cat headline alongside local lad J Hus and London-born US star 21 Savage. Nigeria’s Asake and South African sensation Tyla are ones to watch.
13 July Herrington Park, Sunderland £43
The north-east’s biggest pop festival is here to transport you back to the 1990s and early 2000s – a more innocent time. Busted, Vengaboys, BoyzLife (Keith from Boyzone and Brian from Westlife – who knew?), Girls Aloud’s Nadine Coyle and even Rednex are performing. You get the picture.
17-20 July Lews Castle, Outer Hebrides £155
The unique Hebridean Celtic Festival has been a fixture in the cultural landscape of the Outer Hebrides for almost 30 years. It aims to protect and promote Gaelic and traditional music, platforming local talent as well as internationally renowned acts. This year headliners include James and Scottish pop-rock veterans Del Amitri, while genre-defying Irish musician Sharon Shannon will also perform along with Celtic icons Skipinnish.
Beat-Herder
18-21 July The Ribble Valley, Lancashire From £239
What started in 2006 as a small rave in the trees has now blossomed into a pretty huge rave in the trees. This year’s line-up features a who’s who of dance music, including Leftfield, Orbital, Erol Alkan, Dub Pistols, Sarah Story, Jamz Supernova and Channel One Soundsystem.
18-21 July Monmouthshire, South Wales £150
This four-day music and arts extravaganza in the South Wales countryside is one of the friendliest small festivals around. This year’s full line-up has yet to be released, but headliners include daisy age hip-hoppers Arrested Development. As well as live acts and DJs, the festival boasts circus performers, creative workshops and art installations.
Secret Island Festival
20 July Mersea Island, East Mersea £42.50
A one-day music, arts and culture festival blending disco, house, techno, and drum and bass with activities like yoga and ecstatic dance. Their ambition is to become a mini-Glastonbury by the sea! The festival has partnered with Youth Music Charity for 2024, who believe that every young person should have the chance to change their life through music.
Folk By The Oak
21 July Hatfield Park, Hertfordshire £58.50
A family-friendly festival of the finest folk, roots and acoustic music set against a backdrop of beautiful leafy parkland. Circuit mainstays the Levellers are headlining this year, topping a bill that also includes folk duo The Staves, Kora master Seckou Keita and his esteemed Homeland Band and the captivating six-piece Heisk.
25-27 July Belladrum Estate, Inverness £180
The family-friendly festival in the Scottish Highlands celebrates its 20th year by putting on a pop music feast. Deacon Blue, Sugababes, James Arthur and The Futureheads all feature, as do Teenage Fanclub, Ocean Colour Scene, Jake Bugg and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who is unsurprisingly higher up on the bill than she would have been this time last year.
Camp Bestival
25-28 July/15-18 August Dorset/Shropshire From £210
The ultimate family festival takes place in two separate locations. For the kids, there’s everything from skateboard lessons to space camp and beekeeping. The music stages are equally as fun – McFly, Orbital, Paloma Faith, The Darkness and David Rodigan, to name a few. If you’re going to Shropshire check out Say She She, who make fine disco-infused pop.
The best UK festivals in August 2024
1-4 August Cerne Abbas Brewery, Dorset £125
This is an old-school day festival set in the grounds of a Dorchester Brewery. Expect sound system bangers from the likes of Mungo’s Hi Fi (ft Eva Lazarus) and Zion Train, reggae from Macka B, punk hip-hop from PENGSHUi and while you’re there get down to the sounds of Manchester’s Riot Jazz Brass Band.
1-4 August Winter Gardens, Blackpool £230
Dust off your studded leather jacket, rip those jeans and head to the seaside for the UK’s biggest independent punk festival. Iconic acts such as The Stranglers, Sham 69 and Stiff Little Fingers will take to the stage, while there’s plenty of room for new blood, with upstarts Bar Stool Preachers, HotWax and The Chisel set to keep you pogoing into the night.
1-4 August Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire £278
One of the most sophisticated festivals around, this. Music, comedy, literature, wellbeing – they’ve even got a review of the Sunday papers. Underappreciated national treasure Michael Kiwanuka headlines along with Faithless, Bicep (DJ set) and Jessie Ware. De La Soul, Alison Goldfrapp and Ibibio Sound Machine show how deep this line-up goes. Comedy highlights include Edinburgh Comedy Award holder Ahir Shah and screwball sketch trio Crybabies.
Reggae Land
3-4 August Milton Keynes National Bowl, Milton Keynes From £110
As the name suggests, this festival is all about reggae and Caribbean culture. Dub, dancehall and jungle also get a look in with celebrated acts including roots pioneer Burning Spear, UB40, Shabba Ranks and Aswad appearing alongside stars of the younger generation such as Koffee, Popcaan and Skip Marley.
Boardmasters
7-11 August Newquay, Cornwall From £279
Spanning two seafront locations in Newquay, the long-standing Boardmasters festival combines live music with surfing – from pro competitions to beginners’ lessons – and wellness. Headlining this year are Chase & Status, Sam Fender and Stormzy, with strong support from The Streets, Nia Archives, Becky Hill and The Courteeners.
7-11 August Matterley Bowl, Hampshire From £300
“A festival, but not as you know it.” That’s how Boomtown describes itself – and it’s hard to argue. The site is split into eight ‘city districts’, where you’ll encounter ‘citizens’ (actors). Guests are encouraged to play along and discover the underlying message – how we can transform our world. This is a green festival that offers discounts if you travel by public transport and aims to have net zero emissions by 2026. The music is set across 12 main stages and 50 hidden venues. The line-up is still TBA.
Fairport’s Cropredy Convention
8-10 August Banbury £190
Folk rock veterans Fairport Convention have been hosting this annual reunion in Oxfordshire since they called it a day back in 1979. This year features Rick Wakeman & the English Rock Ensemble, Tony Christie, The Trevor Horn Band and, of course, Fairport themselves.
8-11/22-25 August Holkham Hall, Norfolk/Powderham Castle, Devon From £205
Get down to this adventure festival hosted by Bear Grylls. If you make it through the heart-pounding action, there’s a pop music feast waiting on the other side with McFly, Example, Sam Ryder, The Feeling, James and Ocean Colour Scene playing across the two separate events in Norfolk and Devon.
15-18 August Brecon Beacons, Wales £260
There’s something for everyone at this award-winning independent music, science and arts festival held in the beautiful surroundings of a national park. This year indie-folk darlings Big Thief and electro-soul crooner Sampha headline.
We Out Here
15-18 August Wimborne St Giles, Dorset £240
Gilles Peterson is back with the fifth instalment of his global music love-in. Headliners are flute newbie Andre 3000 and Sampha. Spoken word performer Kae Tempest, electronic producer Floating Points and Afro-pop star Obongjayar are our other tips.
15-18 August Tilford, Surrey Day tickets from £50
Set in The Rural Life Museum, Weyfest offers a festival experience like no other with a working light railway running both steam and diesel trains around the perimeter of the venue. They also have an eclectic line-up featuring the classic pop of The Feeling and The Lightning Seeds, acid jazz pioneers Incognito and irie vibes with Dreadzone.
All Points East
16-25 August Victoria Park, London Ticket prices vary
Running over two weekends in East London, headliners include cult pop icon Mitski, DJ/producer Kaytranada, disco punks LCD Soundsystem and rapper Loyle Carner. Field Day, which is now part of APE, will be headlined by alt-pop star PinkPantheress and disco veterans Justice.
Creamfields
22-25 August Daresbury, Cheshire From £240
The dance music Mecca never disappoints. Leading the bill are a flurry of A-listers including Calvin Harris, Fatboy Slim, Eric Prydz, Chase & Status and Charlotte de Witte as well as rising stars Peggy Gou and Eliza Rose.
22-25 August Boughton House, Kettering From £214
What was once a small evangelical Christian music festival has grown into a much bigger event welcoming those of different faiths and none, with a focus on activism. The festival has a ‘pay what you can afford’ ticketing model and does its bit to challenge global injustice. Among the acts playing this year are Corinne Bailey Rae, the House Gospel Choir, spoken word artist Jaspreet Kaur and rapper turned social justice campaigner Darren McGarvey , aka Loki.
Lost Village
22-25 August Norton Disney, Lincolnshire £324
One of the most creative festivals out there, Lost Village offers a surreal festival experience in a secluded woodland dressed up as an abandoned world – think dilapidated buildings, old junkyards, hidden gardens and a disused airbase. The focus is on forward-thinking music, art, food, immersive theatre, comedy, talks and workshops. Maribou State, Ben UFO and Jyoty are in town, and there will be live performances from Neil Frances, SBTRKT and Sofia Kourtesis. Rosie Jones and Josh Pugh are among the comedy highlights.
22-25 August Solway Coast, Cumbria £165
An independent, anti-corporate, family-friendly festival overlooking the sea? Nestled between the mountains of the Lake District and Southern Scotland? What more do you want? Solfest is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a dizzying array of rock, drum and bass, folk, reggae, and world music. Headliners include golden age hip-hop legends De La Soul, The Wailers and Peter Hook & The Light. There’s also a kids area, workshops and even a steam room and sauna on site.
Reading and Leeds
23-25 August Richfield Avenue, Reading and Bramham Park, Leeds £325
You won’t find a steam room or sauna at this classic rock festival, though Reading and Leeds has diversified a bit when it comes to booking acts – and all the better for it. Lana Del Rey joins Liam Gallagher and pop-punk pioneers Blink-182 as headliners, while Brits darling Raye and jungle revivalist Nia Archives are among the highlights lower down the bill.
Shrewsbury Folk Festival
23-26 August West Midlands Showground, Shrewsbury From £185
This celebration of folk, blues, Americana, world music and traditional dance is fun for all the family – even boasting its own festival-within-a-festival for the kids. Headliners on the main stage include Elkie Brooks, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, American bluegrass hip-hop band Gangstagrass and Scotland’s Peatbog Faeries.
Barnstomper
29-31 August Cerne Abbas Brewery, Dorset From £145
Live music and camping at a brewery? It’s a match made in heaven. Set in the grounds of the Cerne Abbas Brewery in the Dorchester countryside, this award-winning 18+ festival will be headlined by LA Celtic punk band Flogging Molly, EMF (of Unbelievable fame) and rockers Pet Needs.
End Of The Road
29 August-1 September Larmer Tree Gardens, Dorset £255
A music lover’s festival, with carefully curated line-ups in an idyllic setting that also offers comedy, films, workshops and literature events. The headliners are Idles, Slowdive, Fever Ray and, in a UK festival exclusive, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. We would also urge you to catch cult lo-fi star Ty Segall, New York power-pop princes The Lemon Twigs, Sheffield guitar hero Richard Hawley, festival veterans Yo La Tengo and feminist punk group Sleater-Kinney.
30 August-1 September Birmingham £170
Rated the UK’s best small festival by The Guardian , Supersonic operates sliding ticket prices and hosts a kaleidoscopic array of genres. We’re interested in Senyawa, who combine Indonesian tribal and primitive sounds with industrial music and Gazelle Twin, whose live show is “rooted in the theatrics of the séance”.
31 August-1 September Durdham Down, Bristol From £103
Forwards may be relatively new to the scene but it’s already drawing in the big names. Loyle Carner and LCD Soundsystem headline a bill that also boasts Jessie Ware, Four Tet and Yard Act, who are set to continue their ascent this year. Drummer and band leader Yussef Dayes, a leading member of London’s hip jazz scene, is also performing.

The World's Highest Grossing Tours of 2023
2023 was a serious year for live music . (Although more accurately, it was a huge year for several major headliners. Many smaller acts have faced a different story entirely).
According to analysts at Pollstar, total grosses for the top 100 tours that year were up 46 percent from $6.28 billion in 2022 to $9.17 billion last year. Attendance figures were also up, rising from 59 million to 70 million - an increase of 18.4 percent.
The following chart is based on data collected by Pollstar on the world’s highest grossing tours of 2023. It reveals that at the top of this list, comes Taylor Swift with her record-breaking “ Eras Tour ” - the first ever to break the $1 billion mark - which visited 60 stadiums in total. It was followed by Beyoncé’s “Renaissance Tour”, which grossed some $579,813,546 in 56 shows and Bruce Springsteen’s “Springsteen and E Street Band 2023 Tour” which grossed $379,496,085 across 66 venues.
Ticket prices for the top 8 grossing worldwide tours ranged between an average of $105.16 for an Ed Sheeran ticket to more than double that for Taylor Swift - $238.95.
This chart shows the box office gross of the highest-grossing music tours worldwide in 2023.

Money saving trends are constantly popping up on social media - but one in particular has been gaining huge amounts of attention.
Created accidentally by a comedian, loud budgeting is breaking down the taboo of speaking about money.
The idea is based on being firmer/more vocal about your financial boundaries in social situations and setting out what you are happy to spend your money on, instead of "Keeping up with the Joneses".
On TikTok alone, videos published under the hashtag #loudbudgeting have garnered more than 30 million views - and that figure is continuing to climb.
We spoke to Lukas Battle - the 26-year-old who unintentionally created the trend as part of a comedy sketch.
Based in New York, he came up with the term in a skit about the "quiet luxury" hype, which had spread online in 2023 inspired by shows like Succession.
The term was used for humble bragging about your wealth with expensive items that were subtle in their design - for example, Gwyneth Paltrow's £3,900 moss green wool coat from The Row, which she wore during her ski resort trial...
"I was never a big fan of the quiet luxury trend, so I just kind of switched the words and wrote 'loud budgeting is in'. I'm tired of spending money and I don't want to pretend to be rich," Lukas said.
"That's how it started and then the TikTok comments were just obsessed with that original idea."
This was the first time he mentioned it...
Lukas explained that it wasn't about "being poor" but about not being afraid of sharing your financial limits and "what's profitable for you personally".
"It's not 'skip a coffee a day and you'll become a millionaire'."
While talking money has been seen as rude or taboo, he said it's something his generation is more comfortable doing.
"I've seen more debate around the topic and I think people are really intrigued and attracted by the idea," he said.
"It's just focusing your spending and time on things you enjoy and cutting out the things you might feel pressured to spend your money on."
He has incorporated loud budgeting into his own life, telling his friends "it's free to go outside" and opting for cheaper dinner alternatives.
"Having the terminology and knowing it's a trend helps people understand it and there's no awkward conversation around it," he said.
The trend has been a big hit with so-called American "finfluencers", or "financial influencers", but people in the UK have started practising it as well.
Mia Westrap has taken up loud budgeting by embarking on a no-buy year and sharing her finances with her 11.3k TikTok followers.
Earning roughly £2,100 a month, she spends around £1,200 on essentials, like rent, petrol and car insurance, but limits what else she can purchase.
Clothes, fizzy drinks, beauty treatments, makeup, dinners out and train tickets are just some things on her "red list".
The 26-year-old PHD student first came across the idea back in 2017, but decided to take up the challenge this year after realising she was living "pay check to pay check".
She said her "biggest fear" in the beginning was that her friends wouldn't understand what she was doing, but she found loud budgeting helped.
"I'm still trying my best to just go along with what everyone wants to do but I just won't spend money while we do it and my friends don't mind that, we don't make a big deal out of it," she said.
So far, she has been able to save £1,700, and she said talking openly about her money has been "really helpful".
"There's no way I could have got this far if I wasn't baring my soul to the internet about the money I have spent. It has been a really motivating factor."
Financial expert John Webb said loud budgeting has the ability to help many "feel empowered" and create a "more realistic" relationship with money.
"This is helping to normalise having open and honest conversations about finances," the consumer affair manager at Experien said.
"It can also reduce the anxiety some might have by keeping their financial worries to themselves."
However, he warned it's important to be cautious and to take the reality of life into consideration.
"It could cause troubles within friendship groups if they're not on the same page as you or have different financial goals," he said.
"This challenge isn't meant to stop you from having fun, but it is designed to help people become more conscious and intentional when it comes to money, and reduce the stigma around talking about it."
Rightmove's keyword tool shows Victorian-era houses are the most commonly searched period properties, with people drawn to their ornate designs and features.
Georgian and Edwardian-style are second and third respectively, followed by Tudor properties. Regency ranked in fifth place.
Rightmove property expert Tim Bannister said: "Home hunters continue to be captivated by the character and charm of properties that we see in period dramas.
"Victorian homes remain particularly popular, characterised by their historic charm, solid construction, and spacious interiors. You'll often find Victorian houses in some of the most desirable locations which include convenient access to schools and transport links."

On Wednesday we reported on a new £12m ad from PG Tips in response to it falling behind rivals such as Twinings, Yorkshire Tea and Tetley....
We had lots of comments like this...
How on earth was the PG Tips advert so expensive? I prefer Tetley tea, PG Tips is never strong enough flavour for me. Shellyleppard
The reason for the sales drop with PG Tips could be because they increased the price and reduced the quantity of bags from 240 to 180 - it's obvious. Royston
And then this question which we've tried to answer below...
Why have PG Tips changed from Pyramid shape tea bags, to a square? Sam
Last year PG Tips said it was changing to a square bag that left more room for leaves to infuse, as the bags wouldn't fold over themselves.
We reported on data showing how downsizing could save you money for retirement - more than £400,000, in some regions, by swapping four beds for two.
Some of our readers shared their experiences...
We are downsizing and moving South so it's costing us £100k extra for a smaller place, all money from retirement fund. AlanNorth
Interesting read about downsizing for retirement. We recently did this to have the means to retire early at 52. However, we bought a house in the south of France for the price of a flat in our town in West Sussex. Now living the dream! OliSarah
How much should we pay for food?
Executive chef at London's two-Michelin-starred Ikoyi, Jeremy Chan, raised eyebrows when he suggested to the Money blog that Britons don't pay enough for restaurant food.
Ikoyi, the 35th best restaurant in the world, charges £320 for its tasting menu.
"I don't think people pay enough money for food, I think we charge too little, [but] we want to always be accessible to as many people as possible, we're always trying our best to do that," he said, in a piece about his restaurant's tie up with Uber Eats...
We had this in...
Are they serious? That is two weeks' worth of food shopping for me, if the rich can afford this "tasting menu" then they need to be taxed even more by the government, it's just crazy! Steve T
If the rate of pay is proportionate to the vastly overpriced costs of the double Michelin star menu, I would gladly peel quail eggs for four-hour stints over continuing to be abused as a UK supply teacher. AndrewWard
Does this two-star Michelin star chef live in the real world? Who gives a toss if he stands and peels his quails eggs for four hours, and he can get the best turbot from the fishmonger fresh on a daily basis? It doesn't justify the outrageous price he is charging for his tasting menu. Topaztraveller
Chefs do make me laugh, a steak is just a steak, they don't make the meat! They just cook it like the rest of us, but we eat out because we can't be bothered cooking! StevieGrah
Finally, many of you reacted to this feature on common mistakes in job interviews...
Those 10 biggest mistakes people make in interviews is the dumbest thing I've ever read. They expect all that and they'll be offering a £25k a year job. Why wouldn't I want to know about benefits and basic sick pay? And also a limp handshake? How's that relevant to how you work? Jre90
Others brought their own tips...
Whenever I go for an interview I stick to three points: 1. Be yourself 2. Own the interview 3. Wear the clothes that match the job you are applying Kevin James Blakey
From Sunday, eligible working parents of children from nine-months-old in England will be able to register for access to up to 15 free hours of government-funded childcare per week.
This will then be granted from September.
Check if you're eligible here - or read on for our explainer on free childcare across the UK.
Three and four year olds
In England, all parents of children aged three and four in England can claim 15 hours of free childcare per week, for 1,140 hours (38 weeks) a year, at an approved provider.
This is a universal offer open to all.
It can be extended to 30 hours where both parents (or the sole parent) are in work, earn the weekly minimum equivalent of 16 hours at the national minimum or living wage, and have an income of less than £100,000 per year.
Two year olds
Previously, only parents in receipt of certain benefits were eligible for 15 hours of free childcare.
But, as of last month, this was extended to working parents.
This is not a universal offer, however.
A working parent must earn more than £8,670 but less than £100,000 per year. For couples, the rule applies to both parents.
Nine months old
In September, this same 15-hour offer will be extended to working parents of children aged from nine months. From 12 May, those whose children will be at least nine months old on 31 August can apply to received the 15 hours of care from September.
From September 2025
The final change to the childcare offer in England will be rolled out in September 2025, when eligible working parents of all children under the age of five will be able to claim 30 hours of free childcare a week.
In some areas of Wales, the Flying Start early years programme offers 12.5 hours of free childcare for 39 weeks, for eligible children aged two to three. The scheme is based on your postcode area, though it is currently being expanded.
All three and four-year-olds are entitled to free early education of 10 hours per week in approved settings during term time under the Welsh government's childcare offer.
Some children of this age are entitled to up to 30 hours per week of free early education and childcare over 48 weeks of the year. The hours can be split - but at least 10 need to be used on early education.
To qualify for this, each parent must earn less than £100,000 per year, be employed and earn at least the equivalent of working 16 hours a week at the national minimum wage, or be enrolled on an undergraduate, postgraduate or further education course that is at least 10 weeks in length.
All three and four-year-olds living in Scotland are entitled to at least 1,140 hours per year of free childcare, with no work or earnings requirements for parents.
This is usually taken as 30 hours per week over term time (38 weeks), though each provider will have their own approach.
Some households can claim free childcare for two-year-olds. To be eligible you have to be claiming certain benefits such as Income Support, Jobseeker's Allowance or Universal Credit, or have a child that is in the care of their local council or living with you under a guardianship order or kinship care order.
Northern Ireland
There is no scheme for free childcare in Northern Ireland. Some other limited support is available.
Working parents can access support from UK-wide schemes such as tax credits, Universal Credit, childcare vouchers and tax-free childcare.
Aside from this, all parents of children aged three or four can apply for at least 12.5 hours a week of funded pre-school education during term time. But over 90% of three-year-olds have a funded pre-school place - and of course this is different to childcare.
What other help could I be eligible for?
Tax-free childcare - Working parents in the UK can claim up to £500 every three months (up to £2,000 a year) for each of their children to help with childcare costs.
If the child is disabled, the amount goes up to £1,000 every three months (up to £4,000 a year).
To claim the benefit, parents will need to open a tax-free childcare account online. For every 80p paid into the account, the government will top it up by 20p.
The scheme is available until the September after the child turns 11.
Universal credit - Working families on universal credit can claim back up to 85% of their monthly childcare costs, as long as the care is paid for upfront. The most you can claim per month is £951 for one child or £1,630 for two or more children.
Tax credits - People claiming working tax credit can get up to 70% of what they pay for childcare if their costs are no more than £175 per week for one child or £300 per work for multiple children.
Two big economic moments dominated the news agenda in Money this week - interest rates and GDP.
As expected, the Bank of England held the base rate at 5.25% on Wednesday - but a shift in language was instructive about what may happen next.
Bank governor Andrew Bailey opened the door to a summer cut to 5%, telling reporters that an easing of rates at the next Monetary Policy Committee meeting on 20 June was neither ruled out nor a fait accompli.
More surprisingly, he suggested that rate cuts, when they start, could go deeper "than currently priced into market rates".
He refused to be drawn on what that path might look like - but markets had thought rates could bottom out at 4.5% or 4.75% this year, and potentially 3.5% or 4% next.
"To make sure that inflation stays around the 2% target - that inflation will neither be too high nor too low - it's likely that we will need to cut Bank rate over the coming quarters and make monetary policy somewhat less restrictive over the forecast period," Mr Bailey said.
You can read economics editor Ed Conway's analysis of the Bank's decision here ...
On Friday we discovered the UK is no longer in recession.
Gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 0.6% between January and March, the Office for National Statistics said.
This followed two consecutive quarters of the economy shrinking.
The data was more positive than anticipated.
"Britain is not just out of recession," wrote Conway. "It is out of recession with a bang."
The UK has seen its fastest growth since the tailend of the pandemic - and Conway picked out three other reasons for optimism.
1/ An economic growth rate of 0.6% is near enough to what economists used to call "trend growth". It's the kind of number that signifies the economy growing at more or less "normal" rates.
2/ 0.6% means the UK is, alongside Canada, the fastest-growing economy in the G7 (we've yet to hear from Japan, but economists expect its economy to contract in the first quarter).
3/ Third, it's not just gross domestic product that's up. So too is gross domestic product per head - the number you get when you divide our national income by every person in the country. After seven years without any growth, GDP per head rose by 0.4% in the first quarter.
GDP per head is a more accurate yardstick for the "feelgood factor", said Conway - perhaps meaning people will finally start to feel better off.

Loaves of bread have been recalled from shelves in Japan after they were found to contain the remains of a rat.
Production of the bread in Tokyo has been halted after parts of a "small animal" were found by at least two people.
Pasco Shikishima Corp, which produces the bread, said 104,000 packages have been recalled as it apologised and promised compensation.
A company representative told Sky News's US partner network, NBC News, that a "small black rat" was found in the bread. No customers were reported to have fallen ill as a result of ingesting the contaminated bread.
"We deeply apologise for the serious inconvenience and trouble this has caused to our customers, suppliers, and other concerned parties," the spokesman said.
Pasco added in a separate statement that "we will do our utmost to strengthen our quality controls so that this will never happen again. We ask for your understanding and your co-operation."
Japanese media reports said at least two people who bought the bread in the Gunma prefecture, north-west of Tokyo, complained to the company about finding a rodent in the bread.
Record levels of shoplifting appear to be declining as fewer shopkeepers reported thefts last year, new figures show.
A survey by the Office for National Statistics shows 26% of retailers experienced customer theft in 2023, down from a record high of 28% in 2022.
This comes despite a number of reports suggesting shoplifting is becoming more frequent.
A separate ONS finding , which used police crime data, showed reports of shoplifting were at their highest level in 20 years in 2023, with law enforcements logging 430,000 instances of the crime.
Let's get you up to speed on the biggest business news of the past 24 hours.
A privately owned used-car platform is circling Cazoo Group, its stricken US-listed rival, which is on the brink of administration.
Sky News has learnt that Motors.co.uk is a leading contender to acquire Cazoo's marketplace operation, which would include its brand and intellectual property assets.
The process to auction the used-car platform's constituent parts comes after it spent tens of millions of pounds on sponsorship deals in football, snooker and darts in a rapid attempt to gain market share.
The owner of British Airways has reported a sharp rise in profits amid soaring demand for trips and a fall in the cost of fuel.
International Airlines Group said its operating profit for the first three months of the year was €68m (£58.5m) - above expectations and up from €9m (£7.7m) during the same period in 2023.
The company, which also owns Aer Lingus, Iberia and Vueling, said earnings had soared thanks to strong demand, particularly over the Easter holidays.
The prospect of a strike across Tata Steel's UK operations has gained further traction after a key union secured support for industrial action.
Community, which has more than 3,000 members, said 85% voted in favour of fighting the India-owned company's plans for up to 2,800 job losses, the majority of them at the country's biggest steelworks in Port Talbot, South Wales.
Tata confirmed last month it was to press ahead with the closure of the blast furnaces at the plant, replacing them with electric arc furnaces to reduce emissions and costs.
In doing so, the company rejected an alternative plan put forward by the Community, GMB and Unite unions that, they said, would raise productivity and protect jobs across the supply chain.
