Porcupine Tree
UPC : 802644816210
Voyage 34, an instrumental composition from 1992/93, is a journey split into 4 phases that rocks for over an hour, this was Porcupine Tree's entry into the ambient trance genre popularized by artists such as the Orb. Combining trance rhythms alongside more typical TP textures and guitar solos, Voyage 34 was a big hit in the ambient/chill out club scene of the early 1990's (when it was originally issued across two 12-inch singles). Following the now sold-out first box set of Porcupine Tree's Delerium Years, and the near sold-out second box set, Kscope are re-releasing the band's records from the era, including Voyage 34, as a series of LP's presented in gatefold packaging. This double LP version is pressed on to 180g heavyweight audiophile vinyl, and features the tracks remastered by Steven Wilson in 2016 with more naturalistic dynamics and EQ - remasters previously only available in The Delerium Years 1991-1993 box set. The artwork was completely redesigned for the original re-release and contains new images from long-term collaborator of Porcupine Tree frontman and founding member Steven Wilson, Lasse Hoile.

Voyage 34 is a concept album, where the LSD trip of a young man called Brian is told with spoken words. Musically it is a fusion of progressive rock, psychedelic rock and trance music.
Originally a 30-minute track intended to be the second disc of Up The Downstair, Wilson eventually decided to release "Voyage 34" independently of the rest of the album. It was released in two parts, as singles, as Phase I & Phase II in 1992.
In 1993, Voyage 34: Remixes was released, containing two remixes of the originals. "Voyage 34 (Phase III)" was a remix by the British electronic music group Astralasia, while "Voyage 34 (Phase IV)" was a remix by Wilson himself, along with future band member Richard Barbieri.
A voice sample of Dead Can Dance 's song "As the Bell Rings the Maypole Spins" is repeated throughout all four tracks as well as a synth effect sampled from Van der Graaf Generator 's song " A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers ".
Steven Wilson said of Voyage 34:
“The whole point about Voyage 34 was an exercise in genre. In that sense it stands apart from the rest of the catalogue...back in the early Nineties, there was an explosion in ambient music, a fusion of electronic music and techno music with the philosophy of people like Brian Eno and Tangerine Dream. I thought there was an interesting opportunity to do something that would bring progressive rock and psychedelia into that mixture. I wouldn't say Voyage 34 was a technical exercise, that makes it sound like a science project, but it was a one-off experiment in a particular genre in which I knew I wouldn't be staying for very long.”

'Voyage' 34 is one of the greatest space trips ever put on vinyl. This is Porcupine Tree at their most creative moment yet. 'Voyage 34' is really a story of a psychedelic trip told through a mind experiencing the finer points of LSD. The narration (which occurs throughout the trip) borders on total hilarity as the drug induced trip is detailed.

Voyage 34, originally a two-volume EP series from 1992-1993, was expanded into "The Complete Trip" after Steven Wilson remixed and added production for its eventual re-release seven years later. Documenting the ill effects of an acid trip by a frequent user (the first 33 were fine), the four-phase work begins with a straight-laced narrator explaining the events leading up to the trip, with ...
Porcupine Tree fills a great gap for those hungry for more Pink Floyd, particularly the earlier works. "Voyage 34" is a tribute actually to Pink Floyd, as hints of "The Wall" and practically the whole catalogue from the David Gilmour era make no attempt to hide.

The instrumental compilation 'Voyage 34', recorded by progressive rock outfit Porcupine Tree in the early Nineties but not released as a complete entity until 2000.An unusual exploration into ambient trance territory (think The Orb), the project had its genesis in a track titled 'Voyage 34' that had been intended for PT's second album 'Up The Downstair'.
