“I'd been itching to record an opus--basically a long, winding, bastard of a song, reminiscent of some of the compositions I cut my teeth (or ears) on, in my music-hungry adolescence,” bassist Les Claypool told Consequence. “"Conspiranoia" was sprouted from a seed I had planted in my notebook a year or so ago--a few lines commenting on the mental state of the contemporary world.”

Primus (originally formed in 1984), is an American rock band - currently made up of Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Tim Alexander.
Their style of music has been hard to pin point. Claypool said they were in the funk metal genre, but many people have described their music as alternative/ experimental rock and alternative metal.
The duo - Les Claypool and guitarist Todd Huth, originally found it hard to get a drummer when they started out, eventually finding a friend of Claypool's to fill the spot. They went on to rise to stardom in their local music scene with their funk metal fusion.
After members coming and going from the band, the group decided to have a short break in 1989, but shortly after the trio got together and recorded their first album called "Suck On This". This lead to the subsequent release of their album "Frizzle Fry" and a tour with Jane's Addiction.
The group released "Pork Soda", which made number 7 in the Billboard Top 10 in 1993. The album had gone darker than their usual style of music, which included elements of suicide and murder. Following this, the band went on to headline at the Lollapalooza rock festival. Whilst playing their song "My Name Is Mud" the audience actually threw mud at them, which ended with a lot of anger from Claypool.
In 1999 the group released "Antipop", which included many big names such as Meallica, Rage Against the Machine and many more. From that album the group released a music video for the album's single called "Lacquer Head", which was banned from MTV because of references to drugs.
Primus went on to tour up and throughout 2011, including the Bonnaroo festival, shortly after followed by a Europe tour, before embarking on a "major fall tour" to support their new album. And the next year the band went on tour with their first ever 3D-enhanced live musical performance. Each show featured Quad Surround Sound and 3D visuals to make it a different experience for their fans.
Live reviews
Every now and then, you come across a band that genuinely stand alone as a real musical one-off; as a genre, though, metal seems to have more than its fair share. Primus fit pretty neatly into that particular category; their weird blend of heavy instrumentation, funk-driven song structures and progressive, expansive leanings makes them a genuinely intriguing proposition. Not to mention, too, that they do it all with their own quirky sense of humour running through proceedings; classic records by the band bear titles including Sailing the Seas of Cheese and Pork Soda. After an initial split back in 2000 - because “it just wasn’t fun anymore”, according to singer Les Claypool - they reconvened in 2003 and continue to tour to this day, playing shows that are equal parts eccentric silliness and technical proficiency. Their most recent tour of the UK, saw career-spanning sets that included classics like ‘Jerry Was a Race Car Driver’ and ‘Frizzle Fry’ and typically ended with a bombastic, extended rendition of ‘John the Fisherman’. With drummer Tim Alexander returning to the fold late last year after a seventeen-year absence, there’s rumours that Primus may head to the studio later this year, meaning further touring plans shouldn’t be too far around the corner.

They're still killing it. Played a nice variety of their hits, with perhaps a bit more focus on Frizzle Fry than on other albums, just three songs from post-Brown album, including one from their upcoming album. Was stoked to see them play Over the Falls... Les fucked up on Southbound Pachyderm and stopped, then threw in Mr. Knowitall as penance before resuming Southbound Pachyderm to finish out the encore. Hell of a show...
Les was interactive and chatty as always. This was the third time I'd seen them and it was just as good as the first, which was rad. Primus rules and I will see them again whenever I can.
The concert was nice overall - great venue, amazing set list, good interaction with the public. The second half was the Chocolate Factory album, which you may or may not like but was impressive.
Quite disappointing though was the fact that despite a very, VERY cheery audience who called the band for more than 15 minutes, Primus didn't come back from an encore. I was personally very disappointed by this, as it's kind of a tradition in live events - especially which such a loud crowd! It was a sad ending for an otherwise perfect gig.
It was good. Lots of my favorite old songs. On the pork soda album. Also I was impressed with the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory psychedelic stuff. And a two parter with an intermission and I got a frizzle fry tee shirt. And I got my girlfriend a purple Charlie tee shirt. 1 thing, the Orpheum is really nice with reserved seating. And we had to stand the whole time to see because everyone else was standing. I like to rock out but I also like to sit down. Great show overall, great musicians
This probably replaced several other shows as my favorite. Claypool's humor and irreverent nature with the audience was fantastic. The band managed to play many of their classics and a few surprises thrown in as well. This being the Chocolate Factory, they eventually centered the show around it and hilarity ensued. With Claypool sauntering on stage as Willy Wonka amidst mushrooms and Oompa Loompas, Primus managed to trip everyone out.
Best concert ever!!! They played for allmost 3 hours. And they played all their old songs. The sound was perfect, the crowd was perfect, overall best night ever. Less claypool and his band rockend the crowd. I like their old hits kuch more than the experimental things less claypool tried the last couple of years. Primus played so good everybody was going out of their minds. Thanks for a great concert Guy's!
What can I say, it was Primus, it was awesome, it was everything you'd expect.
They jammed like no one's business, again what I would have expected even though I've never seen them before.
One good thing is they only played one of the Oompaloompa songs off the last album (which are the only decent songs IMHO).
One bad thing is that they didn't play "My Name is Mud" AT ALL! boooooo.
The atmosphere was really something else, like being on drugs but not really. It was a trip, all right. About midways through the concert they left the stage, and four POPEYE-cartoons played on a monitor for about 20 minutes. Some people got slightly irritated but I liked it. It was a nice break from the music and it really fits with Primus' antics.
Definitely worth going to!
That was an awesome NYE show. Aside from the 60 foot sperm whale hanging overhead, and the fact that the Fox is a gorgeous theater, the second set had Herb Alexander fresh from heart surgery and Tool's Danny Carey doubling up on the drums with an epic 2 kit drum solo. They rang in the new year with a pretty epic Van Halen Hot for Teacher cover.

Primus Announces New 46 Date ‘A Tribute To Kings’ Rush Tour
- No Comments
Primus has announced an extensive, 46-date, coast-to-coast extension of its wildly popular ‘A Tribute To Kings’ Tour, paying homage to prog-rock legends, Rush. ‘A Tribute To Kings’ will find the Bay area trio performing Rush’s 1977 album ‘A Farewell To Kings’ in its entirety, following a set of their own music. s bassist Les Claypool told Rolling Stone , the tour is about paying tribute to a band that has given him so much inspiration over the years. “ Hemispheres was my first concert,” Claypool said, referring to Rush’s 1978 album and tour. “Originally we’d always kind of joked around about doing Hemispheres …but we settled on Kings , because A) it was the first Rush record I ever heard and B) it contains ‘Cygnus X-1,’ which has always been my favorite Rush tune. It seems to be a good one for us to tackle; 2112 seemed a little obvious.” The announcement follows the massive success of the first leg of ‘A Tribute To Kings,’ which was long-delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It’s just the latest in a long series of Rush-related milestones for Primus, who first opened for their musical heroes in 1992.
“Geddy, Alex and Neil had been superheroes to Larry, Herb and I in our teens,” Claypool recalled, “so when we all became pals while touring together in the early ’90s, we were pretty delighted; partially because of the musical geek-out factor but mostly because the three guys whom we had admired so much from afar, turned out to be truly great, down-to-earth humans, and like us, a tad eccentric.” Kicking off in Oklahoma City before winding its way throughout the US, the second leg of ‘A Tribute To Kings’ will also include the tour’s first stops in Canada, beginning with two dates in Toronto on May 13-14. Rush was formed in Toronto in 1968. The second leg will also feature special guests Battles, Black Mountain, and The Black Angels.

Primus has announced an extensive, 46-date, coast-to-coast extension of their A Tribute To Kings Tour, paying homage to prog-rock legends, Rush.
A Tribute To Kings will find the Bay area trio performing Rush’s 1977 album A Farewell To Kings in its entirety, following a set of their own music. As bassist Les Claypool told Rolling Stone , the tour is about paying tribute to a band that has given him so much inspiration over the years.
It seems to be a good one for us to tackle; 2112 seemed a little obvious.

‘nursery cryme’: phil collins and steve hackett join the genesis cast, ‘the single factor’: a camel classic that wears its years lightly.
“Geddy, Alex and Neil had been superheroes to Larry, Herb and I in our teens,” Claypool recalled, “so when we all became pals while touring together in the early 90s, we were pretty delighted; partially because of the musical geek-out factor but mostly because the three guys whom we had admired so much from afar, turned out to be truly great, down-to-earth humans, and like us, a tad eccentric.”
A special pre-sale, including VIP upgrade options, are on-sale now. Tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday, December 17 at 10am local time.

LES CLAYPOOL's FEARLESS FLYING FROG BRIGADE Announces 'Hunt For Green October' 2023 Tour
As it continues to wind its way across the U.S. on a massive 41-date "Summer Of Green" tour 2023, marking the band's first appearances since the summer of 2003, LES CLAYPOOL'S FEARLESS FLYING FROG BRIGADE has announced that it will return to the road this fall for 10 additional appearances. Dubbed the "Hunt For Green October" tour, the run will begin at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California on Wednesday, October 11 before heading east, stopping at favorite venues like Denver's Mission Ballroom, St. Louis's The Factory, and Chicago's Salt Shed, before culminating with a special Halloween performance at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday, October 31. Additional performances may be announced in the coming weeks. The news comes as media around the country praise the band's reunion, with Glide Magazine writing, "Despite the 20-year gap in their touring history, LES CLAYPOOL'S FROG BRIGADE is hitting the ground running with a setlist filled with classic covers and loved originals." Buffalo.fm called the tour "spectacular."
A limited artist pre-sale will open tomorrow, Wednesday, June 14 at 10 a.m. local time and close on Thursday, June 15 at 10 p.m. local time, using the code WHAMOLA. General public on sale is this Friday, June 17 at 10 a.m. local time.
Formed by Claypool in the summer of 2000 during a short break from PRIMUS , the FEARLESS FLYING FROG BRIGADE made its debut appearance at the Mountain Aire Festival before embarking on several celebrated U.S. tours. Described by Claypool as "kind of a KING CRIMSON -meets- PINK FLOYD -meets- Frank Zappa -type thing," the band released two live albums in 2001, as well as a studio album "Purple Onion" in 2002. The band's most recent performance took place on May 10, 2003 at the House of Blues in Orlando, Florida.
The return of the FEARLESS FLYING FROG BRIGADE follows a busy year for Claypool , who in addition to performing with BASTARD JAZZ on NYE and throughout winter 2022, traveled the country with PRIMUS for the band's wildly popular "A Tribute To Kings" tour, and appeared alongside WEEN at Comedy Central's "South Park: 25th Anniversary Concert" at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Last year also saw the release of PRIMUS 's first new music in more than five years, the sprawling three-song "Conspiranoid" EP, which included the epic 11-minute opening track "Conspiranoia" and second single "Follow The Fool" .
Claypool is one of the most unlikely success stories in entertainment history. His trademark voice, thumping bass lines and unique worldview have become the calling cards for a number of wildly successful and influential albums in the last two decades. But through his myriad of musical and creative projects, Claypool has also become a favorite of jam banders, funk connoisseurs and pretty much everything in between.
"Let's put it this way … I think, with PRIMUS and without, I've played every music festival in the last ten years, except Lilith Fair ," he comments. "You could say I'm the guy who doesn't fit in anywhere, but a little bit everywhere."
LES CLAYPOOL'S FEARLESS FLYING FROG BRIGADE 's "Hunt For Green October" tour dates:
October 11th - Oakland, CA - Fox Theater October 12th - Riverside, CA - Riverside Municipal Auditorium October 14th - Albuquerque, NM - El Rey Theater October 15th - Denver, CO - Mission Ballroom October 17th - St. Louis, MO - The Factory October 18th - Chicago, IL - Salt Shed October 27th - Live Oak, FL – Hulaween* October 29th - Charlotte, NC - The Fillmore October 30th - Cincinnati, OH - Andrew J Brady Music Center October 31st - Nashville, TN - Ryman Auditorium

Primus Plot Rescheduled Rush Tribute Tour Dates
By Kory Grow
Primus will mount their long-delayed tour in homage to Rush , A Tribute to Kings , this summer. The band postponed the dates last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The trek, which will see Primus performing Rush’s 1977 album A Farewell to Kings in its entirety as well as some of their own music, will now kick-off August 10th in Boise, Idaho , before wrapping in Phoenix, Arizona, in October. Wolfmother will open all of the dates, and the Sword will join in on the festivities at some of them. Tickets are available now at Ticketmaster.com .
“Finally, the clouds are parting, the planets are aligning, the dough is rising … whatever metaphor floats your preverbal boat, Primus is going on tour again,” frontman Les Claypool said in a statement. “We were poised and ready for a massive, bent-rock extravaganza when the gremlins of Covid came and yanked the rug out from under us all. I personally have been climbing the walls like a shit-house rat and, after my first season off in 30-some-odd years, I’m very anxious and excited to stand in front of the microphone with my four-string piece of furniture and belt out some girthy ditties to sweaty throngs of punters.”
A statement from the band reinforced that it would follow local guidelines, regarding pandemic precautions. All original tickets will be honored, although anyone looking for a refund can seek one at their point of purchase over the next 30 days. Refunds to the band’s previously scheduled Toronto, Lafayette, and Minneapolis dates — which the band was not able to rebook — are also available at point of purchase.
Last year, before lockdown, Claypool told Rolling Stone how important it was for him to pay tribute to a band that gave him so much inspiration over the years. He sought Geddy Lee’s blessing before mounting the tour. “I texted with him — I keep in touch with Geddy — just to make sure we weren’t trodding on something weird,” he said. “So I checked in with him to see what he thought of it, and he was excited about the notion.”

Primus, Puscifer, and A Perfect Circle Announce Final “Sessanta” Tour Dates
In 2014, three legendary bands came together for a one-night celebration of Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan’s 50th birthday. That event, called “Cinquanta,” has expanded into a fully fledged tour for 2024, which will mark the singer’s 60th birthday.
Primus, Puscifer, and A Perfect Circle have announced the expansion of the tour, stating it will be the final dates for the outing. Beginning April 2nd and 3rd with two nights in Boston, the tour will hit spots across the East Coast, South, and West Coast before tacking on a few dates in the Midwest. The final date is slated for May 4th in Forest Hills, New York.
Each of the three bands will be performing a set of their own music. However, all of the band members – including bassists Les Claypool , Greg Edwards , and Matt McJunkins – will be joining each other’s performances throughout the night for a continually transforming night of music.
“What a glorious notion of combining three bands that all start with the letter ‘P’ for a tribute to Maynard Keenan’s 60th trip around the sun,” Claypool marvels. “I’ve known Maynard for more than three decades and I have to say, I’ve yet to meet a more creative, ambitious and industrious human being; that is assuming he is actually human. Often his perspective and output are more ‘extraterrestrial’ than that of this planet so, It wouldn’t surprise me if he has some sort ‘Prometheus’ type DNA deep in his marrow.”

Primus tour 2023: Where to buy tickets and details
Share Your Love
Primus perfectly illustrates what may happen when a band fuses the traditional elements of alternative rock, thrash, and funk experimentation. Their sound is unparalleled. Since the middle of the 1980s, this band has been performing, and because of the band’s instantly recognizable riffs and catchy songs, the local rock scene has been significantly altered.
The band’s progressive and experimental sound has earned its nominations for Grammy Awards and platinum certifications for several of the band’s albums. The band has built an impressively varied set of tunes throughout its career. Tickets to the band’s concerts are still highly sought after, and Primus has been requested to appear in various countries, allowing the band’s followers to see great guitar solos.

Fresh Out of the Frizzle Fryer
Les Claypool, Larry LaLonde, and Tim Alexander has been the band’s backbone for many years, although the band had a difficult time getting off to a good start when it came to finding the right drummer in its early years. Primus was initially created in 1984 in El Sobrante, California; however, the band originally performed under the moniker Primate. Primus is now known as Primus. Frizzle Fry was the name of the band’s debut studio album, which was successful enough to attract the attention of big record labels in 1990.
The band’s subsequent album, Sailing the Seas of Cheese, was responsible for the band’s meteoric rise in fame and exposing the band’s music to an even larger audience. The group’s standing as a pioneering new experimental rock band was cemented by the success of both Sailing the Seas of Cheese and Pork Soda, which both achieved platinum certification. Many of the band’s songs, such as “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver” and “My Name Is Mud,” have been included in media, and the band has inspired many other musicians.

A PERFECT CIRCLE, PRIMUS, PUSCIFER expand 2024 Sessanta tour to Northeast
Maynard James Keenan 's 60th birthday tour has gone from a small West Coast run to a full-fledged U.S. bonanza.

Sessanta will now be commencing on April 2nd for a two-night residency at Boston's Boch Center, and instead of wrapping up at Red Rocks in Colorado on April 26th, it will journey out East for a few more dates before the grand finale in Forest Hills, NY, on May 4th.

Luke Combs announces 2024 US tour: All 25 dates on the Growin' Up and Gettin' Old Tour
As Luke Combs is currently out on a world tour, he's already letting his U.S. fans know when they can expect to see him again.
The reigning two-time CMA Entertainer of the Year announced a 25-show 2024 stadium tour , called the Growin' Up and Gettin' Old Tour, on Tuesday. The tour will feature different special guests depending on the date, according to a press release. Artists include Cody Jinks, Charles Wesley Godwin, Hailey Whitters and The Wilder Blue for Friday shows and Jordan Davis, Mitchell Tenpenny, Drew Parker and Colby Acuff for Saturdays.
"When I found out we were going to be able to do two shows for most all of the cities on the 2024 tour, I decided I wanted each show to have their own unique set up of openers, as well as my own unique setlist," Combs said in a press release.
"I thought this would give people an opportunity to come to both nights if they want, but see two completely different shows."
Combs added, "With country music being such a wide genre and being a huge fan of it all myself, I wanted to open up my stage to acts that lean into Outlaw, Americana and Red Dirt on Friday nights, as well as having a night with people I have toured with in the past, who are more contemporary country."

"A supernatural song writer": Luke Combs praises Tracy Chapman as 'Fast Car' tops charts
Luke Combs is burning up the charts with Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car'
The performances add to yet another triumphant year for Combs, whose new version of Tracy Chapman’s Grammy-winning "Fast Car" has spent five consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. This is Combs’ 16th consecutive No. 1 single on country radio.
The song was recently certified double-platinum, has garnered over 435 million global streams and is No. 2 this week on Billboard’s Hot 100. "Fast Car" is the first song by a male solo artist to ever top both the Hot AC and Country Airplay charts.
Combs’ latest album, "Gettin' Old," is a companion to his acclaimed 2022 record, "Growin' Up." The New York Times praised the album as "grounded in country, complete with fiddle fills, but it’s also pointed toward a wide pop audience" while Billboard proclaimed, "His electrifying-yet-earthy voice soundtracking this time in his life as a husband, father and entertainer at the top of his game."
American Songwriter summed it up with, "He’s a rock star at this point."
