Request your advise on
1. How best to travel?...should we use a guided tour from London that includes travel and accommodation?
2. What places to visit in 3 days (max 4 day) that would help us the key places to see?
3. If possible would like to include a single malt tour at a distillery that permits a 17 year old.
4. Any other advise for the visit.
Thanks much in advance.
Regards...Chaitanya

This link should help with your 3rd question - https://www.wanderingspiritsglobal.com/50-distillery-tours-in-scotland-your-kids-can-actually-go-on/
I'm sure others will follow with more advice.
Oban has a distillery which is in the centre of town. In the Cairngorms any tour that visits Dufftown will probably include a distillery visit. A 17 year old will be allowed to visit them but won't be permitted to sample the produce as must be 18 to drink alcohol.
With such limited time, Glasgow is actually the better placed city for much of the best of the Highlands.
Most distilleries will allow a 17yr old to take a tour without drinking. Its under 14 that it becomes more problematic. Edinburgh isn't the best place for distilleries as there are only a small number in easy reach of the city.
Tours from London tend to be the "whistle stop" variety and with a full day's drive each way, to and from Scotland , tend to be longer affairs.
Oban is a good suggestion - an attractive/bustling place with a lot to offer in its immediate vicinity and straightforward to reach from Glasgow, station or Airport. Fort William , despite its direct connection to London, less so, unless you are climbing or taking the Jacobite train. A car would also be pretty essential as the Highland area is fairly poorly served by public transport but the Argyll area around Oban has better public transport options. The Aviemore/Cairngorms area is one part of the Highlands with reasonable public transport that can be reached directly from London by Sleeper Train. Don't include a Sunday in your plans though as this tends to be the day with the lowest service frequency and many services don't run at all.
Three days though - that won't actually let you see a lot whatever you choose to do. Places like Edinburgh or Glasgow would be viable but not rural/more remote places.
Get the LNER train from Kings's Cross Station and book now.
Look for the cheap Advance Purchase fares.
I'm responding to question 4 only.
So - assuming all the above apply, my advice is to re-consider the planned locations and work out a timeplan.
You could be doing something like this -
Day 1 arrive in London after a long flight , jetlagged.
Day 2 explore London, still jetlagged
Day 3 swap accommodation to Scotland
Day 4 & Day 5 explore Scotland
Day 6 swap accommodation back to London
Day 7 depart London for home.
If it is anything like that, it is very rushed, does not do justice to London nor to Scotland. IMO if only 5 'full' days in UK, drop either London or Scotland. Or at least book open-jaw / multi-city flights tickets so you can fly into London and home from Scotland.
What flights have you booked, and is anything else already booked ?
Considering we have another trip planned next year to London, we have decided to spend the 7 days in London, in and around and plan a longer Scotland trip next year, so we can do justice to what it offers.
Appreciate your inputs. thank you!
That is a much better idea. With a bit of time, you can see/enjoy a lot more.

While just about any month is great to visit Scotland, there are a few prime times of the year for the Discover Scotland tour. Here are some recommendations from our destination experts.
Spring: During the springtime, you’ll find fewer crowds in places like Orkney and the Isle of Skye, which can give you more opportunities to take the time to appreciate your surroundings.
Summer: August is the perfect time to visit Edinburgh, as the Military Tattoo and Edinburgh Festival both take place then. It’s crowded, but the city is alive with many cultural events. And generally, it’s good weather (fingers crossed for not too much rain!). Places like Orkney and the Isle of Skye can be crowded, too, but longer days give you more time to explore.
Fall: After mid-September, there are fewer crowds at Orkney and the Isle of Skye, making your visit all the more relaxing.
