New Building Completed at West Apartments

Maintaining a consistent layout with other student housing across the West side of campus, this new, three-story apartment style residence hall features 173 beds across 30 suites. Each suite consists of four to six single bedrooms, one kitchen, two bathrooms and a common living/dining area.

The building also includes communal laundry rooms for residents to share. The ground-up construction project will be available to upperclass students for occupancy in the fall semester, and will be included in room selection this spring for residents to choose from.

West Apartments Dorm Reviews at Stony Brook

Overall, West J is pretty good because it's a newer apartment building so it's pretty clean and relatively looks good. The only thing is it's far away from the dining halls and the academic buildings.

The West Apartments at Stony Brook exceeded all my expectations and provided an exceptional living experience throughout my stay. From the moment I moved in, I was impressed by the modern and well-maintained facilities. The apartments are spacious and equipped with everything needed for comfortable living, making it truly feel like a home away from home.

West Apartments are located in a great locality on campus. It is an excellent area for meeting new people and forging new relationships. Each of the rooms is spacious and maintained in a very clean manner. The access to a kitchen in the common area of each suite makes it convenient for students to cook their own meals, instead of being bound to a meal plan or having to pay for food on top of tuition and room/board fees. I highly recommend it - a 100% recommendation!

The apartments were definitely a step up from the other quads due to the option to have single bedrooms and AC(I previously lived in Tabler). However, for the price, the apartments were very small and not well kept up with. I know they are now doing some refurbishments to some buildings so hopefully positive changes are made, but I never felt like the apartments were very clean or inviting. I always felt safe living on campus and it was also convenient to be so close to class buildings, especially with the buses running so often, but I think that there needs to be deep cleanings and stylistic changes to begin to justify the cost. I would recommend these apartments only in comparison to the dorms or if someone was really in a pinch for housing.

Verified Resident

It is a great place to live in your last year of college, if you need peace and quiet/time to yourself. West Apartments is one of the few places on campus where you can have your own room and privacy.

Great apartment for upperclassmen. There are two bathrooms in each suite that are shared between 5-6 residents. The living room is decent sized and the kitchen has a lot of storage space. The single rooms are perfectly sized and have their own thermostat.

West Apartments offers single rooms and double rooms for students. Some buildings have only single rooms and each room can house 6 people. Each room also has 2 bathrooms, a kitchen area, and a living room area. Living at West would be a good option because you don't need to buy a meal plan as you can cook your own meals. You can live in a single room while still living with your friends. West provides a lot of parking spaces and bus stops are nearby for students. The only issues with West are that it is a bit far from everything on campus and single rooms are more expensive.
