Taylor Swift's 'The Eras Tour' dances to No. 1 at the box office, eyeing 'Joker' film record

Movie theaters turned into concert venues this weekend as Swifties brought their dance moves and friendship bracelets to multiplexes across the country. The unparalleled enthusiasm helped propel "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour " to a massive, first place debut between $95 million and $97 million in North America, AMC Theatres said Sunday.

It's easily the biggest opening for a concert film of all time, and, not accounting for inflation, has made more than the $73 million "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" earned in 2011.

In today's dollars, that would be around $102 million. And if it comes in on the higher end of projections when totals are released Monday, it could be the biggest October opening ever. The one to beat is "Joker," which launched to $96.2 million in 2019.

'Eras' tour movie etiquette: How to enjoy the Taylor Swift concert film (the right way)

A unique experiment in distribution, premium pricing, star power and loose movie theater etiquette — more dancing and shouting than a Star Wars premiere — have made it an undeniable hit.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Compiled from Swift's summer shows at Southern California's SoFi Stadium, the film opened in 3,855 North American locations starting with "surprise" Thursday evening previews. Those showtimes helped boost its opening day sum to $39 million – the second biggest ever for October, behind "Joker's" $39.3 million.

Internationally, it's estimated to have earned somewhere between $31 to $33 million, bringing its global total in the range of $126 million to $130 million.

"This is a phenomenal number," said Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst for Comscore. "To have a blockbuster-style opening weekend for a concert film is unprecedented."

Swift, who produced the film, went around the Hollywood studio system to distribute the film, making a deal directly with AMC, the largest exhibition company in the United States. With her 274 million Instagram followers, Swift hardly needed a traditional marketing campaign to get the word out.

Taylor Swift 'Eras' movie review: Concert film a thrilling revisit of her live spectacle

Beyoncé made a similar deal with the exhibitor for "Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé," which will open on Dec. 1.

The two superstars posed together at the premiere of "The Eras Tour" earlier this week in Los Angeles. It was a needed injection of star power with Hollywood actors over 90 days into a strike that has left most red carpets void of glamourous talent and resulted in several high-profile films being pushed to next year.

"The Eras Tour," directed by Sam Wrench, is not just playing on AMC screens either. The company, based in Leawood, Kansas, worked with sub-distribution partners Variance Films, Trafalgar Releasing, Cinepolis and Cineplex to show the film in more than 8,500 movie theatres globally in 100 countries.

The spotlight on Swift has been especially intense lately as a result of her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The two made separate surprise appearances on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend and were also photographed holding hands in New York.

It led to some hyperbolic projections going into the weekend, with some analysts predicting that "The Eras Tour" could make over $125 million. Dergarabedian said it's common for outsized expectations to be attached to massive brands like Swift. There's also no precedent for something like "The Eras Tour" and a celebrity of Swift's stature.

"The laws of gravity don't apply to Taylor Swift," Dergarabedian said.

More: Watching the world premiere of 'Eras Tour' concert movie with Taylor Swift felt like a dance party

The film scored well with both critics and audiences, who gave it an A+ CinemaScore, a metric that typically signals a film will continue to do well after its first weekend.

Elizabeth Frank, the executive vice president of worldwide programming and chief content officer for AMC Theatres, said in a statement that they are grateful to Taylor Swift.

"Her spectacular performance delighted fans, who dressed up and danced through the film," Frank said. "With tremendous recommendations and fans buying tickets to see this concert film several times, we anticipate 'Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour' concert film playing to big audiences for weeks to come."

The stadium tour, which continues internationally, famously crashed Ticketmaster's site and re-sale prices became astronomical. Pollstar projects that it will earn some $1.4 billion. The concert film offered fans both better seats and a much more affordable way to see the show for the first or fifth time. Prices are higher than the national average, at $19.89, which references her birth year and 2014 album, and ran closer to $29 a pop for premium large format screens like IMAX. Even so, they are significantly less than seat at one of the stadium shows.

Showtimes are also more limited than a standard Hollywood blockbuster, but AMC is guaranteeing at least four a day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at all AMC locations in the U.S. Many locations also specified that there are no refunds or exchanges. And fans will have to wait a while for "The Eras Tour" to be available on streaming — part of the AMC deal was a 13-week exclusive theatrical run.

Michael O'Leary, CEO of the National Association of Theater Owners said in a statement the moment was, "Another landmark weekend for cinemas."

"This year has been marked by unprecedented experiences for movie lovers in theaters across this nation," O'Leary continued in a statement. "The 'Eras Tour' debut proves, yet again, that fans are eager to share other experiences in a communal way, with theater owners working creatively to build memorable moments in their cinemas."

O'Leary said that a survey of 6,000 people by his organization and The Cinema Foundation found that 72% want to see more concert films on the big screen.

"The Eras Tour" accounted for over 70% of the total weekend box office grosses. "The Exorcist: Believer" placed a very distant second in its second weekend with $11 million, followed by the "Paw Patrol" movie in third with $7 million. Rounding out the top five was "Saw X" with $5.7 million and "The Creator" with $4.3 million.

"This is great news for theaters," Dergarabedian said. "'The Eras Tour' wasn't even on our radar in mid-August. You take this out of the equation and it would have been a totally different weekend."

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

  • "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour," $95 to $97 million.
  • "The Exorcist: Believer," $11 million.
  • "Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie," $7 million.
  • "Saw X," $5.7 million.
  • "The Creator," $4.3 million.
  • "A Haunting in Venice," $2.1 million.

  • "The Nun II," $1.6 million.

Missed the Eras Tour when it came through your city? Don’t worry, you still have a chance to catch it — but this time, on the big screen.

Taylor Swift announced on Aug. 31 that she’d be bringing her massively popular global trek to AMC theaters all across North America, following the conclusion of its first U.S. leg earlier this month. Sharing an 80-second trailer jam-packed with shots from Swift’s career-spanning stage show, the 33-year-old pop star took to social media to announce the exciting news.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ Is Officially Coming to Theaters: How to…

“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far,” she wrote. “I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon 😆 Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged.”

The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon 😆 Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! Tickets are on sale now at… pic.twitter.com/eKRqS8C7d1 — Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) August 31, 2023

Just like with the Eras Tour tickets, anticipation for the concert film is so high, Swifties brought down the ticketing app — in this case, the AMC app instead of Ticketmaster — with Swifties tweeting about wait times, and some noting that they couldn’t even get the app to load. Ahead of the concert announcement, the company had even upgraded its website so that it could handle more than five times thelargest ticketing traffic it previously experienced.

“AMC is … aware that no ticketing system in history seems to have been able to accommodate the soaring demand from Taylor Swift fans when tickets are first placed on sale,” the company had said in a statement announcing the concert film, which also warned fans of possible delays and outages of its website.

Keep reading to see everything Billboard knows so far about the Eras Tour concert film, below:

When It Comes Out

Taylor Swift

The Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour   movie arrives in theaters Friday, October 13.

How to Get Tickets

AMC will offer the film in IMAX and Dolby Cinema as well as standard screenings, with fees varying by format and theatre. In anticipation of an expected rush of interest — a.k.a., a repeat of Ticketmaster’s hectic presale roll-out for the U.S. Eras Tour dates — AMC upgraded its website and ticketing engines to handle more than five times the largest influx of ticket-buying traffic ever experienced by the company.

With all that said, standard tickets are $19.89 (plus tax) for adults and $13.13 for children and seniors (plus tax). The film will be available in AMC theaters in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, as well as certain other movie operators that AMC is working as distributor for in those three countries ( Cinemark , Cineplex and Cinepolis).

Every U.S. AMC Theatre location will run the movie at least four times per day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays while it’s showing.

Tickets are already on sale. Read on for more information on how to get tickets here .

When It Was Filmed, And Where

The Eras Tour film was shot over the course of Swift’s first three shows at SoFi Stadium, where she performed a total of six straight shows in early August. The Los Angeles venue attracted a total of nearly 500,000 fans.

Possible Surprise Songs

The pop star performed a total of six surprise songs during her Aug. 3-5 dates at SoFi, meaning each of them are possible contenders for a featured spot in the film: “I Can See You,” “Maroon,” “Our Song,” “You Are in Love,” “Death by a Thousand Cuts” and “You’re on Your Own, Kid.”

One possible hint as to which of these songs will be included is that the Eras movie trailer shows Swift’s “self-titled” debut as being featured in the film. The sole song from her first album performed at any of the three taped shows was “Our Song,” which cropped up during her acoustic set on Aug. 4.

Plus, against her early tour promise that she wouldn’t repeat any non- Midnights surprise songs, this was Swift’s second time singing “Our Song” during the acoustic section of an Eras show — the first being in Las Vegas in March. Coincidence?

The Runtime

Taylor Swift

An average Eras Tour concert runs for more than three hours, but Swift’s publicist Tree Paine confirmed to Billboard that the concert film has an official runtime of 2 hours, 45 mins.

It’s unclear what parts of Swift’s show her team may have shaved off to get the movie down to a shorter length.

The Director

The Eras Tour film was directed by Sam Wrench, the filmmaker behind past concert movies like Billie Eilish Live at the O2 and  BTS: Permission to Dance . The Grammy-nominated creative specializes in shooting live music content, with a resumé that includes projects for Lizzo, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd and Mary J. Blige.

There Are Already Easter Eggs

Notice anything odd about those ticket prices?

AMC is charging a standard $19.89 fee (minus tax) for adults, a clear callback to Swift’s 2014 fifth studio album 1989 — which, coincidentally, is also her next “Taylor’s Version” re-record on the docket, with 1989 (Taylor’s Version) arriving this October. Plus, kids and senior tix are priced $13.13, a not-so-subtle reference to Swift’s famous lucky number, 13.

Then, not so much an Easter egg but something worth decoding, Swift included this in her announcement post for the film: “1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk).”

Need an explainer? Allow Billboard to translate. Dating back to the Reputation Tour, it’s been a tradition for Swifties to yell “1, 2, 3, let’s go b-tch!” in between the opening refrain and first verse of “Delicate,” which Swift still sings live at the Eras Tour. It all started with a viral video from one fan who originated the phrase, and you can be sure to hear it ripple through the audience in the Eras Tour movie.

It's Going to Be A Full Experience

Taylor Swift

It seems like Swift is doing her best to make the Eras Tour film viewing experience feel as similar as possible to experiencing an actual Eras Tour concert. That’s because she encouraged fans to engage in all the same festivities as they would at a live show when they hit theaters for a screening: “Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged,” she wrote in her announcement for the film.

Inspired by a lyric in Midnights track “You’re on Your Own, Kid,” Swifties have spent the summer exchanging handmade friendship bracelets at Eras Tour shows — even celebrities have gotten in on the trend!

The Song You Probably Won't See

“‘Tis The Damn Season” is usually a fixture in the Evermore set list, but it probably won’t be included in the Eras Tour concert film. That’s because it was replaced with “No Body, No Crime,” which Swift performed with openers HAIM, in all of the performances that were taped for the movie.

The only way you’ll see the fan-favorite soft jam on the big screen is if it was shot at another one of Swift’s shows without anyone noticing.

It's Not Swift's First Documentary

Swifties may remember that this isn’t the “Anti-Hero” singer’s first time in a feature documentary film, and it certainly isn’t the first time she’s put together a concert film for one of her tours.

Taylor Swift | Eras Tour will follow Swift’s Netflix documentary Miss Americana , which came out in 2020. The Lana Wilson-directed project largely captured the star as she was transitioning from her Reputation era to Lover while finding confidence as an activist.

Prior to that, Swift released concert films for her Reputation and 1989 tours, via Netflix and Apple Music, respectively. She also released DVDs of her first two headlining treks before that: 2010’s Journey to Fearless and 2011’s Speak Now World Tour — Live .

How It Got Around The SAG-AFTRA Strike

The Eras Tour film was created at a time when production on almost every other big screen project was halted by the SAG-AFTRA writers’ strike. Rules of the labor strike, which began in July 2023, mandate that no members are allowed to work on or promote any of their films until their demands are met by production companies — so how did Swift’s come together in that time period?

As it turns out, a source close to the Swift film confirmed to  Billboard  that the Eras doc obtained clearance under the SAG-AFTRA interim agreement before filming. The agreement green lights individual non-AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) productions that meet the standards sought by unions involved in the strike, including scheduled breaks, payment for fittings, meal and wardrobe allowances for principal actors and background actors, per diems, rest periods and more.

Billboard  also confirmed that the Swift film is included under an assumed name on the  list of approved interim agreement projects .

It's Already Breaking Records

Taylor Swift

AMC announced the morning after tickets went on sale that the film event had already broken its single-day advance-ticket sales revenue records . The haul? An astounding $26 million in just 24 hours. The theater chain noted that its the highest advance sales revenue day in the company’s 103-year history. The previous first-24-hours record for AMC was held by 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home , which brought in $16.9 million — an amount that the chain said Swift’s concert film surpassed in the first three hours tickets were on sale.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Concert Film May Save Movie Theaters This Fall

Forget a cruel summer, movie theaters feared a devastating autumn for moviegoing this year amid the ongoing writers and actors strikes. But luckily for Hollywood, Taylor Swift is in her theater-saving era. As she embarks on the overseas leg of her Eras Tour , Swift announced on Thursday that a concert film documenting the blockbuster event will hit the big screen on October 13.

“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon,” Swift posted on her social media, alongside a trailer for the film. “Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! Tickets are on sale now at Taylor.linkto.com . Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged…1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk).”

The concert film will be released in the United States, Canada, and Mexico with AMC Theaters ensuring at least four dedicated showtimes per day from Thursday to Sunday upon opening, according to The New York Times . In light of the Ticketmaster terror that greeted fans purchasing concert tickets, AMC further promises that it has “bolstered its ticket server capacity to handle traffic at more than five times the current record for the most ever tickets sold in an hour.” The company added, however, that it was “also aware that no ticketing system in history seems to have been able to accommodate the soaring demand from Taylor Swift fans when tickets are first placed on sale.” And these tickets are a steal compared to some of the astronomical figures paid for the actual tour, starting at $19.89 for adults and $13.13 for children.

Swift, who has previously been at the center of the 2020 Netflix documentary Miss Americana and the 2018 Reputation concert film, is coming to the fall movie schedule at a key moment. There has been a fear that studios will have little to offer in order to capitalize on the Barbie - Oppenheimer box office afterglow as major projects shift away from the release calendar. With actors prevented from promoting their new projects, the hotly anticipated Dune: Part Two , Zendaya ’s sexy tennis saga Challengers , and live-action Spider-Man spin-off Kraven the Hunter have all been rescheduled to dates in 2024. But Swift’s tour has been good for more than gifting the world Channing Tatum in a homemade “ Hi, it’s me, I’m the daddy, it’s me ” shirt or Flavor Flav adorned with armfuls of friendship bracelets . It’s boosted the economies of every city it reaches—a boon Hollywood desperately needs.

However, for all its moneymaking potential, the Eras film could fall into at least one relatable theatrical trap: a supersized running time . Step aside, Martin Scorsese ’s three-hour-plus Killers of the Flower Moon . Given the 44-track set list and three-hour concert time , Swift may break yet another record by releasing the longest film of the year.

“ Taylor Swift : The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)” is coming exclusively to Disney+ — and the concert film will include five songs that were not available in the theatrical or digital versions.

Popular on Variety

So what are those four new songs from Eras that will be on Disney+? Based on Variety ’s analysis of Swift’s three shows at L.A.’s SoFi Stadium that were shot for the concert film but not included in the original cut, those are likely the four acoustic “surprise songs” she performed: “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” “Maroon,” “You Are in Love” and “I Can See You.” (“No Body, No Crime” featuring Haim also has not been in either the theatrical or digital release of the film, but that wasn’t an acoustic version.)

“This week is truly the best kind of chaos,” Swift posted on Instagram. “I’m thrilled to let you know I’ve found a streaming home for The Eras Tour Concert Film, and that home will be @disneyplus. For the first time we’ll be showing the entire concert (including ‘cardigan,’ plus 4 additional songs from the acoustic section!!) and I’m calling it, huge shock, ‘Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version).’ Available starting March 15 which is actually very 🔜😆🫶”

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” pulled in $261.7 million at the global box office after its Oct. 13 wide theatrical debut — making it the highest-grossing concert film to date. The film was shot at the first three L.A. shows of the superstar’s Eras tour from Aug. 3-5, 2023, and clocked in with a 2-hour-and-45-minute runtime, which meant five songs from the regular setlist were omitted .

The digital release of “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” was released on Dec. 13 , Swift’s birthday. That version, distributed by Universal Pictures, included three bonus songs that were not seen in theaters: “Wildest Dreams,” “The Archer” and “Long Live.” That pushed its official total runtime to 3 hours and 1 minute.

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” was produced by Swift and directed by Sam Wrench. The original film included 44 songs . Swift’s production company, Taylor Swift Productions, produced the film in collaboration with Silent House Productions.

In 2023, Swift’s Eras Tour — spanning music from her 17-year career — pulled in an estimated $1 billion in gross ticket sales. As the tour continues through 2024, it’s expected to exceed $2 billion in total sales , per projections by live-music trade publication Pollstar.

Disney+ currently is streaming Swift’s documentary performance film “Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions,” which was first released in 2020. Meanwhile, she is set to make her directorial feature-film debut in a deal with Disney’s Searchlight Pictures based on an original script penned by Swift.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert film takes its final bow at the box office this weekend

Taylor Swift  takes her final bow at the movie box office this weekend.

After a whirlwind four weeks in theaters, the singer’s Eras Tour concert film has  shattered records  and helped the theater industry weather a light release calendar.

Heading into its final weekend, the  Eras Tour film  has collected $150 million in domestic receipts and more than $200 million globally. That global haul represents more than 18% of the $1.092 billion total global box office earned since the film was released Oct. 13, according to data from Comscore.

“It’s been a remarkable, one-of-a-kind, record-breaking and influential run for the Eras Tour, not to mention a huge win for Taylor Swift and theater owners,” said Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at BoxOffice.com.

Expectations are that Swift will add another $10 million domestically this weekend and could be the number one film at the box office once again.

So far, the Eras Tour film is the highest-grossing domestic and global concert film release of all time, but lags just behind “Michael Jackson’s This Is It” concert documentary’s global haul of $262.5 million.

Swift’s concert film release came at an opportune time. Labor strikes in Hollywood led a number of films to depart the theatrical calendar, including the much-anticipated “Dune: Part Two” from  Warner Bros. Discovery  and Legendary Entertainment.

“One movie can make all the difference,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore. “This incredible box office performance is made all the more impressive given the film’s truncated release pattern that had it essentially playing on big screens four days a week.”

Swift’s unique release, coupled with her decision to distribute the film through the theater chain  AMC  instead of a traditional Hollywood studio, has also led to increased speculation about where the concert film will land on streaming.

Currently, it appears that Swift is waiting for the SAG-AFTRA strike to wrap up before negotiating with streamers for the rights to her concert film. The film is much-coveted in the industry and a big bidding battle is expected.

Swift has previously worked with Apple Music,  Netflix  and  Disney  to release filmed versions of her concerts and documentary projects.

Taylor Swift 's The Eras Tour Film  has achieved a remarkable milestone for both the music and film industries by earning a prestigious nomination for the 81st  Golden Globe Awards  in the category of Cinematic and Box-Office Achievement.

The Eras Tour is nominated alongside fellow 2023 box office winners Barbie , Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 , John Wick: Chapter 4 , Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One , Oppenheimer , Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Previously, Swift was nominated in the Best Original Song, Motion Picture category on four occasions: in 2013 for The Hunger Games ' "Safe and Sound," in 2014 for One Chance 's "Sweeter Than Fiction," in 2020 for Cats ' "Beautiful Ghosts" and in 2023 for Where the Crawdads Sing 's "Carolina."

The announcement comes on the heels of the tour's unparalleled success, setting the record for the highest-grossing concert film ever , making over $1 billion.

Swift, who is currently on a break from her Eras Tour, surprised fans at the end of August with news of a concert film capturing the magic of the tour's live performances. The film initially hit theaters, offering supporters a cinematic experience of Swift's electrifying stage presence and visually stunning production.

As a special birthday treat to her devoted fanbase, Swift took to Instagram to share her plans for a wider audience to enjoy The Eras Tour concert film. Ahead of her Dec. 13 birthday, she shared, "Hi! Well, so, basically I have a birthday coming up and I was thinking a fun way to celebrate the year we’ve had together would be to make The Eras Tour Concert Film available for you to watch at home!"

The announcement was met with widespread excitement from fans who had witnessed the tour in theaters and those eager to experience it for the first time. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will be available to rent on various platforms, including Apple TV+ and Prime Video, providing fans with the flexibility to enjoy the spectacle in the comfort of their own homes.

While the rental price is yet to be disclosed, Swift revealed an enticing detail that is sure to enthrall fans even more. The extended version of the film, featuring three new songs, is set to debut along with the at-home release. According to Swift's post, fans can anticipate hearing "Wildest Dreams," "The Archer," and "Long Live" in this extended cut.

Swift expressed her excitement about the extended version, stating, "Very happy to be able to tell you that the extended version of the film, including 'Wildest Dreams,' 'The Archer,' and 'Long Live,' will be available to rent on demand in the US, Canada & additional countries to be announced soon starting on … you guessed it, Dec. 13💋."

Although her film is nominated for a Golden Globe, don't expect to see a Swift - Beyoncé showdown at the Academy Awards, as it seems neither performer's concert documentary is eligible to be considered for an Oscar nomination.

While both projects took the box office by storm, Variety reported that neither can compete for an Academy Award nomination for documentary feature, or any technical category, under the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' current guidelines.

Beyond that, neither Eras nor Renaissance was submitted for consideration by the Oct. 2 deadline.

The 81st Golden Globe Awards will be presented live Sunday, Jan. 7 starting at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on CBS and streaming live on Paramount+.

Swift's Golden Globes nomination aligns seamlessly with the much-anticipated face-off between the Los Angeles Rams and Travis Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs in LA on the day of the awards ceremony.

Make sure you watch this 4-year-old taylor swift movie before the eras tour on disney+, 8 box office records broken by taylor swift: the eras tour movie.

  • The Eras Tour movie showcases Taylor Swift's globally acclaimed concert, featuring songs from all her albums, including bonus tracks.
  • The theatrical version had a shorter run-time than the live concerts, cutting some iconic performances, and leading to fans' mixed reviews about the overall running time.
  • Taylor's Version of The Eras Tour on Disney+ offers a full-length, extended view of the concert, including four additional bonus songs not included in the theatrical version.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has just landed on Disney+ and has become the third version of the worldwide acclaimed concert by Taylor Swift to be released. Directed by Sam Wrench, the movie depicts the ongoing world tour of renowned performer Taylor Swift , which began on March 17, 2023, and will conclude on December 8, 2024. It has broken multiple records and has become the first tour to pass $1 billion in revenue.

The Eras Tour contains songs from different albums that Taylor Swift has released during her career so far. The movie version of the concert was filmed at SoFi Stadium in August 2023, during Swift's Californian run of the tour. Disney+ released Taylor's Version of the concert on March 14, 2024 , marking it as the third version of The Eras Tour film to be released since the beginning of its impressive 22-month stint across five continents.

With Taylor Swift on a brief break from performing while prepping the release of her next album, it won't be long before she's back for The Eras Tour.

3 Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie (Theatrical Version)

First film version of the eras tour released.

The movie version of the concert was released to universal acclaim, with critics praising the cinematography, styling, and Swift's spectacular musical performances across her different eras.

The theatrical version of The Eras Tour was released on October 13, 2023. It allowed Swifties who missed the chance to buy tickets an opportunity to experience the acclaimed concert for themselves. The movie version of the concert was released to universal acclaim , with critics praising the cinematography, styling, and Swift's spectacular musical performances across her different eras; it was the highest-rated musical movie of 2023 (via Rotten Tomatoes ).

One of the few criticisms the theatrical version received was the final run-time compared to the live concerts. The theatrical version of the concert has a running screen time of 2 hours and 45 minutes, significantly shorter than the actual live concert which lasts over 3 hours. The run time of the theatrical version resulted in some of Taylor Swift's most iconic performances being cut from the final product , severely disappointing many of her fans. When Is Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie Leaving Theaters & Cinemas?

By Vansh Mehra

Hitting the theaters on October 13, 2023, the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie has performed extremely well at the domestic and worldwide box office. But, soaring past its fourth weekend, many fans across the world are wondering when the Eras tour will leave theaters and cinemas. Here’s all you need to know.

When will Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie be leaving theaters?

The Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie is expected to stick around at least until December in many domestic theaters.

At the time of writing, no official information has been provided on when the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie will leave movie theaters. It was initially presumed to stay until November 5, as per AMC Entertainment’s initial announcement of ticket availability. But the theater chain later confirmed that the Nov. 5 date was the cutoff for the first run of presales tickets available to purchase.

The Eras tour will certainly continue to play in theaters in the coming weeks beyond November 9. It reportedly opened in 3,855 domestic theaters and brought in $92 million. It dropped by 64.2% and only brought in $33 million in its second weekend. But since then, it has continued to stay strong, earning a reported $15 million and $13 million in its third and fourth weekends, respectively, bringing its domestic total to $166 million.

With no real competition offered by Hollywood, the Eras Tour still played across 3,604 domestic theaters from November 3-5. Other movies usually lose around 700-1000 screens by this time, but the Eras Tour held its screens due to its stronghold at the box office. Even its worldwide total stands prominent at $231 million.

The film will lose a few hundred screens in the coming weeks to movies such as The Marvels, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and Wish, but it is still expected to play until mid-December, if not later. However, the theater screens will reduce significantly from the last weekend of November. So, if you wish to catch the Eras Tour in theaters, it’s recommended that you do it before then.

I flew from LA to Paris to see Taylor Swift. I was only in the city for 48 hours but it was worth it and easier than I expected.

  • I left LA on a Thursday, saw Taylor Swift in Paris on Saturday, and returned to LA on Sunday.
  • The Eras Tour was as good as everyone says, but I was disappointed one album was left out.
  • Overall my 48 hours in Paris was worth it, for Swift and for the food.

Insider Today

I'm not exactly what you would call a Swiftie — so why did I fly 11 hours each way from Los Angeles to Paris for a couple of days just to see Taylor Swift on the opening weekend of the latest leg of her record-shattering Eras Tour?

For one, my soon-to-be mother-in-law invited me on a girls' trip and bought great tickets. Two, because I have been a fan of Swift's for years. (I saw her open for Rascal Flatts in 2008. Yes, open!) And three, because, well, who wouldn't want to see the biggest pop star of her generation at the top of her game?

In 2023, Swift's Eras Tour was estimated to have generated more than $1 billion in ticket sales, the most ever for a tour. Even her film adaptation of the show drew in $250 million, making it the highest grossing concert film of all time. And in the US alone, the Eras Tour was estimated to have generated $5 billion in economic impact.

Taylor Swift is an event, and I didn't want to miss it.

Flying nonstop from LA to Paris on Air France was a breeze

I flew from LA to Paris on Thursday, May 9, and only had to take two days off work — not bad for a trip to Europe. My Air France flight left LAX at 3:20 p.m. and was scheduled to land in Paris the following day, Friday, at 11:15 a.m. local time.

I had an aisle seat in Premium Economy. While nothing like the first-class cabin, where the seats fully reclined into a flat bed, the premium economy seats were wider, had more leg room, and reclined a bit further than the seats in the main cabin. It also had a footrest that could be extended out.

At the start of the flight, Air France offered complimentary glasses of Champagne to all passengers, which I passed on. During dinner, I did have a free glass of red wine, which to my surprise, was actually pretty good.

Dinner was served less than two hours after takeoff. I had mushroom ravioli, which was served with a salad, soft French cheese, biscuits, a roll, and cheesecake — all of which were much better than what I'm used to having on flights. There was coffee and tea service after dinner, which came with a piece of dark chocolate.

I watched "The Lord of the Rings" for the 100th time before and during dinner, which made the time fly by. After the meal, the lights dimmed in the cabin, and it was time to try to sleep.

Armed with eye covers and noise-cancelling headphones, I was able to sleep for around five hours or so, even though it was probably only around 6 p.m. my local time when I fell asleep.

I woke up only when the lights had been turned on, and breakfast was being served, around an hour and a half before landing. Breakfast was a warm spinach and cheese pastry, a roll with butter and jam, orange juice, a fruit cup, and a yogurt drink.

I watched more "Lord of the Rings" and the flight landed on time.

Paris was full of Taylor Swift fans

We went straight from the airport to our hotel, had lunch at a café, and were walking to the Eiffel Tower by around 3 p.m. local time.

I was feeling a little sleepy, but it was surprisingly tolerable. The weather was amazing in Paris and there were people everywhere taking in the sunshine.

Swifties were also everywhere. I spotted plenty of Swift merch and the beaded friendship bracelets that have become a staple of the Eras Tour — which was unsurprising, considering some 42,000 people were expected to attend one of the four dates at La Defense Arena.

Related stories

It was clear the Swifties had come from all over too, including other countries in Europe and the US. Swift was even expected to attract five times as many luxury American travelers to Paris than the Olympics will when it kicks off in the city in July.

Speaking of the Olympics , several areas near the Eiffel Tower and other surrounding areas had temporary scaffolding, as seating and other infrastructure are being put in place to host the games.

After walking around Paris all afternoon, we went back to the hotel to take a quick nap, and then went out for dinner at a classic French brasserie, La Rotonde de la Muette. I had beef tartar with french fries that was so good it alone may have made the trip worth it.

Struggling to stay awake by the end of the evening, I went to sleep that night around 11 p.m. and slept a solid 11 hours — which I am convinced helped me get through the next day and avoid jet lag.

I woke up Saturday morning ready to go. After an amazing café breakfast, more walking, shopping, and croissants, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for the concert.

The concert was over three hours, and she played songs from the new album

Before we even left the hotel, an adorable little girl from the US approached us and asked if we wanted to trade friendship bracelets, the first of several times that would happen that night.

We took an Uber to La Defense Arena, located northwest of the city center and about 15 minutes from our hotel. As we got closer to the arena, the streets were packed with people and police.

The huge crowds outside the arena, waiting to buy merch or lining up to be let in, were decked out in sparkles, sequins, and cowboy hats. I spotted several outfits that looked almost exactly like ones Swift has worn herself, or that were clearly inspired by a specific album.

We finally got in around 5:45 p.m. With our tickets, we had access to a quite bougie lounge that had free food (delicious) and drinks (also delicious). Inside the lounge, we spotted a famous TikToker whose videos of the show that night racked up millions of views, and I casually started chatting to a former top executive of one of the big five tech companies.

We stayed in the lounge while watching the opener, Paramore. When the countdown appeared on the screen for Swift, we went to our actual seats, which were right outside the lounge, stage left.

I won't describe the concert in detail — there is, after all, an entire movie of it — but needless to say, it was as striking as everyone says. The set pieces, the outfits , and the dance numbers were all incredible.

But the real sight to behold was Swift herself, running up and down the stage in heels for more than three hours, never appearing out of breath or even very sweaty, frequently smiling so big and expressing so much gratitude that it was easy to forget this was just one of dozens of tour dates.

There were also some changes to the show, most notably the addition of songs from her new album, "The Tortured Poets Department."

I was shocked and a bit disappointed to realize Swift was not playing any songs from her first album . I was also baffled to learn that she's never explained why she chose to omit her self-titled debut that launched her into stardom from a tour meant to celebrate all the eras of her career.

Theories abound (though most of them also apply to her second album, "Fearless," which she did include), but perhaps the most convincing is simply that the album is not very popular with her fan base compared to her newer work.

But besides making this millennial feel a bit old and a little sad by not playing those songs, the show was still great.

I flew back to LA just two days after arriving and somehow avoided jet lag

We went back to the hotel right after the show to get some sleep before our flights. My Air France flight took off from Paris on Sunday, May 12, at 10:40 a.m. and was set to land in LA the same day at 1:05 p.m. local time, some 11 and a half hours later.

The flight went almost exactly the same as the first, with dinner served less than an hour and a have after take off — this time, it was a mashed pea vegetable dish, salad, roll, biscuits, and a lemon pastry. I watched more "Lord of the Rings" until the lights went out and it was time to sleep again. (I finished the entire trilogy during the flights to and from Paris.)

Surprisingly I was able to sleep on-and-off for around four hours, until eventually the light came back on and it was time for breakfast, about an hour and a half before landing.

We again landed right on time at LAX. I got through customs in about 15 minutes and took an Uber home. It was around 3 p.m., and I was definitely feeling a little bit out of it. Still I forced myself to stay awake and just lounged on the couch the rest of the day — something that I think also helped me avoid jet lag.

I went to sleep at a normal time that Sunday night, about 80 hours after I had first taken off for France, with 22 of those hours spent in the air.

I woke up Monday morning well-rested, feeling exactly how I do after a normal weekend.

Taylor Swift has restructured her Eras Tour. Is this the show we'll see in Indianapolis?

taylor swift eras tour movie landmark

At her first show in Paris, France, Taylor Swift had many surprises in store for fans: New outfits, set transitions and most noticeably, a new setlist.

It is assumed this will be the setlist used throughout the rest of the tour, which means Indianapolis may be seeing this version of the Eras Tour in November as opposed to the version she did on the first leg of her North American tour (but don't worry, it will forever be immortalized in the movie experience on Disney+ ).

Here's everything you need to know.

Did Taylor Swift change her setlist?

Yes. At her show in Paris, France, the first show after the release of her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department (or TTPD, for short), a live stream revealed that she changed up the setlist .

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Fans were surprised she changed up the order of the different eras of her music as well as the addition of the newest era, TTPD.

Of course, to make room for the new section of the show, some cuts were made.

She removed "The Archer" from the "Lover" section, she removed "Long Live," from the "Speak Now" section, she combined the "Evermore" and "Folklore" sets to save time and removed "the 1," "tolerate it," "'tis the damn season" and "the last great american dynasty."

Taylor Swift Debuts ‘Guilty as Sin?' and Triple ‘1989' Mashup for 89th Eras Tour Show

Taylor Swift marked her 89th show on the Eras Tour in Stockholm, Sweden at Friends Arena on Saturday, and as Swifties could expect, she threw in some surprises. The show was her second performance of her three-night stint in Sweden.

During her surprise song section, which typically includes two songs, she marked the landmark occasion by giving the audience a taste of four songs from her vast repertoire, as fan footage from the set reveals.

She started by debuting "Guilty as Sin?" from The Tortured Poets Department live for the first time. "Welcome to the acoustic session. So, all night I've been noticing how absolutely wild this back section of the crowd is," she said, gesturing to the area. "Just wanted to say that to you because this night, when we're doing a concert like this, it just doesn't, it doesn't feel like we're even exerting any energy, because you just fuel us the entire night.

"Thank you for being this kind of crowd. You know it just, it makes me want to play one of my favorite songs from Tortured Poets that I've never played live before," she added prior to launching into the song on acoustic guitar.

Following the live premiere of "Guilty as Sin?" she dropped a triple surprise for the crowd. "It's crazy because it really does feel like the beginning of the tour," Swift remarked while she sat at a piano. "But this is actually our 89th show" she added before delivering a perfectly melded mashup of 1989 vault song "Say Don't Go," plus 1989 's  "Welcome to New York," and "Clean."

Swift is winding her way through Europe with her tweaked Eras Tour, which includes a brand-new section dedicated to her new album, The Tortured Poets Department . She initially launched the TTPD revamp during her four-night Paris run earlier this month. Following her third and final Eras date in Stockholm, she heads to Lisbon, Portugal for a two-night stand on May 24 and 25 before continuing on through her Europe and U.K. leg of the tour through August.

Fans flock to Paris to cheer as Lise Davidsen becomes classical music’s Taylor Swift

PARIS (AP) — Taylor Swift isn’t the only singer fans are flocking to Paris to hear.

Lise Davidsen has become classical music’s biggest draw, attracting crowds to the Paris Opéra for her first performances in the title role of Strauss’ “Salome” during the same week Swift filled La Défense Arena across town for the start of her Eras Tour’s European leg .

“It’s a voice of the century,” said American director Lydia Steier, who staged the sex-and-alcohol-fueled “Salome” at the Bastille. “It’s an insane intensity acoustically. I think its electric.”

Andreas Homoki, director general of the Zurich Opera, gave Davidsen her first major role in 2016 as Agathe in Weber’s “Der Freischütz.”

“Somebody said she’s the new Nina Stemme. I disagree. She’s the new Nilsson,” he said in a comparison with Birgit Nilsson, regarded as one of the greatest Wagnerian sopranos of the 20th century.

Davidsen is in the midst of a landmark season that included her first staged performances in the title role of Janáček’s “Jenůfa” in Chicago last November and her role debut as Leonora in the Metropolitan Opera’s new production of Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino” in February. She climbed another big step in the ladder of the leading dramatic soprano repertoire with her Salome debut Thursday.

“I feel very, very lucky that I have this job and that I get to do this as a career,” she said. “It’s an unbelievably privileged job, but it’s also an unbelievably hard job. I think it’s important to remember that it’s a gift to be able to do this because in the hard days, I wonder if I should just quit and never sing again. But then when you get to the end of a run or end of a show even or a good rehearsal, you think what a gift it is to do this.”

Davidsen starts this “Salome” in a back room of the brutalist set where Herod’s orgy is taking place, wearing a white raincoat, her black hair stringy in a Goth look. She wanders onto a staircase as three attendants in yellow hazmat suits dispose of bodies.

Steier replaces the dance of the seven veils with a gang rape. In another iconic scene, a Salome body double holds the severed head of Jochanaan (John the Baptist), while Davidsen sings the final portion of her 15-minute solo in a cage. She’s with Johan Reuter, who portrayed Jochanaan, and they rise toward the rafters in an apparent hallucination before Herod orders her death.

The audience whooped after the final note of Sunday’s matinee, the second of seven performances through May 28.

“She makes it sound easy. She makes it sound effortless,” conductor Mark Wigglesworth said of her voice. “It’s big, but she never shouts. It’s got a beauty to it. That means you’re not conscious of quantity, you’re just focused on the quality.”

Davidsen called Steier’s controversial staging “unbelievably new and modern.”

“As long as it makes sense, as long as there is reason, I really enjoy doing it,” she said.

At the Met on Feb. 26, Davidsen was so overwhelmed by the audience response after her big fourth-act aria, “Pace, pace, mio dio!” that she broke character, bowing her head and putting a hand over her heart.

“Relief that it went well and I was happy about it,” she explained a few days later.

Davidsen has been home of late only for brief stretches between singing engagements. She and her fiance have a house in London and are building one in Norway.

On the days of performances, Davidsen has a mundane routine that includes walks, laundry, naps and yoga. She gets to the opera house about 2 1/2 hours before curtain to warm up and go for hair and makeup.

Nervous energy on opening nights doesn’t dissipate until the wee hours.

“I pass out in a way rather than sort of fall asleep properly,” she said.

Now 37, the 6-foot-2 Norwegian debuted at the Vienna State Opera in 2017 in the title role of Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos,” at London’s Royal Opera in 2018 as Freia in Wagner’s “Das Rheingold,” at the Bayreuth Festival in 2019 as Elisabeth in Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” and at the Met in 2019 as Lisa in Tchaikovsky’s “Pique Dame (The Queen of Spades).”

Even with a string of accolades, Davidsen approaches each role with trepidation.

“Am I good enough?” she said. “It surprises me every time how nervous I get.”

She is to sing Act 2 of Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” for the first time in concert with conductor Simon Rattle and tenor Stuart Skelton with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in concert on Nov. 1 and 3 in Munich, then sings “Tosca” at the Met starting Nov. 12 and Leonore in Beethoven’s “Fidelio” there opening on March 4.

“I really wanted to do the ‘Fidelio’ here and, of course, when I was asked to do ‘Tosca’ that was a very clear yes for me,” she said in New York before heading to Europe.

Opera aficionados await her first full Isolde and Brünnhilde,

“The Verdi has now been a very big thing for me to get to do ‘Don Carlo’ and then ’Forza’ and I would like to do a ‘Un Ballo in Maschera,’” she said. “And then of course Tosca, it’s a really big thing for me next season. And then ever further away, maybe the bigger Wagner roles. I hope that the Verdi, Puccini, Strauss world can be my plan for some more years.”

Travis Kelce shares the sweet advice Taylor Swift gave him about performing at Kelce Jam music festival

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Taylor Swift gave boyfriend Travis Kelce a little bit of advice before he took the stage in front of thousands of people at Kelce Jam on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to Page Six, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end revealed the hitmaker told him to “just go out there and have fun.”

“I’d be silly if I tried to imitate what she does!” the 34-year-old joked on the red carpet ahead of the music festival, presented by Jim Beam.

Travis Kelce.

Over 20,000 fans flocked to the Azura Amphitheater in Kansas City, Mo., over the weekend for the second-annual Kelce Jam, which featured performances by Lil Wayne, Diplo, 2 Chainz, and, of course, Kelce himself.

The NFL star seemingly took Swift’s advice to heart as he was seen dancing and having a great time throughout the event.

The three-time Super Bowl champion, who brought the Lombardi Trophy out on stage, tossed signed footballs into the crowd, chugged a few drinks and even got the chance to play DJ with Diplo.

“Through all my years in [Kansas City], life could be no better than right the f—k now,” Kelce told the crowd.

The hunky tight end sang a similar tune while chatting with us before the show, praising the community for their “unbelievable” support.

“It’s just been better and better every single year and KC just keeps showing up and showing out,” he told Page Six on the red carpet.

Travis Kelce at Kelce Jam

Last year, Kelce held the music festival the same weekend as the NFL Draft, which also took place in Kansas City.

Without the surge of people coming to the area, the athlete admitted he was “a little nervous” it wouldn’t be as popular this time around.

“I didn’t know what the outcome was going to be but sure enough everybody showed up and it’s just so much fun just getting out there and giving some high fives and seeing the smiles,” he told us.

Although Swift, 34, couldn’t attend the fun-filled event due to her Eras Tour schedule, Kelce’s closest friends — including quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes — showed up to support him.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce

Fortunately, the “Cruel Summer” singer and the record-breaking tight end spent most of the week together on a romantic getaway in Lake Como.

Following Swift’s shows in Paris last weekend, the lovebirds jetted off to Northern Italy, where they stayed at a luxurious $21,000-per-night private villa.

The couple, who began dating last summer, rented the Neoclassical landmark for three nights.

The pair enjoyed a scenic candlelit dinner in their perfectly manicured garden during their first night in town.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift

They looked every bit in love as they drank wine and chatted while holding hands over the table.

Following the meal — likely cooked by their in-house private chef — Swift and Kelce took a stroll along the water.

Later in the week, Swift and Kelce were spotted on a romantic boat ride before heading to dinner at one of the most popular restaurants in town.

While aboard the private boat, the pair were photographed kissing and cuddling up in the backseat.
