By Road: Mukutmanipur is well connected with nearby cities by road. Private and state buses run very frequently between neighboring towns (Bankura, Medinipore, Kharagpur, Purulia, Jamshedpur of Jharkhand) and Mukutmanipur. You can hire a taxi or cab also to reach Mukutmanipur.

It is also directly accessible from Kolkata by road. There have three routes between Kolkata and Mukutmanipur. The shorter route is about 222 km journey via Tarakeswar, Arambag, Bishnupur, and Bankura. The second route is about 228 km road distance via Medinipur and Goaltore. And the third route is about 270 km journey via Dankuni, Bardhaman, Durgapur, and Bankura, which is about 48 km extra journey but the road condition is much better to compare with the shorter route. You can travel by bus also from Kolkata (Dharmatala or Esplanade) to Mukutmanipur.

By Rail: Bankura is the nearby railway station to Mukutmanipur. You can board a train which has a stop at Bankura. From Kolkata you can catch Rupashi Bangla Express at 6:25 am from Santragachi, Rajya Rani Express (UnReserved) at 6:30 am, Aranyak Express at 7:45 am from Shalimar, Howrah - Purulia SF Express at 4:50 pm, Rani Shiromoni Fast Passenger (UnReserved) at 5:45 pm, Howrah - Chakradharpur Fast Passenger at 11:05 pm, Howrah - Bokaro Steel City Fast Passenger at 11:05 pm from Howrah to reach Bankura.

It is 50 km road distance between Bankura and Mukutmanipur and it will take 1 hour 15 minutes journey by car. Regular bus services are also available to reach Mukutmanipur from Bankura.

By Air: Dumdum Airport at Kolkata is the nearest airport to Mukutmanipur.

The village is situated at the confluence of Kanshai and Kumari Rivers and the temple is located on the banks. Ma Ambika is held in reverence by the locals and also attracts tourists from all over the region and the state. The Goddess is worshipped daily and people are treated to ‘Khichuri’ bhog each day. Pareshnath Shiv Mandir

Pareshnath Shiv Temple is the abode of Lord Shiva situated on a hillock, close to the Musafirana viewpoint. It is a very ancient temple. Every year in the month of January, a mela is organized near the temple site by the locals. Bonpukuria Deer Park

Talberia Lake

Mukutmanipur - The second biggest earthen Dam of India. Mukutmonipur is 55 km from Bankura and is near the confluence of rivers Kangsabati and Kumari. Green forests surround the vast bluish tract of water. Hillocks are essentially a dream come here. The place is very much famous for its superb natural beauty. The undulating terrain along the southern edge of the Kangsabati Water Reservoir spreads as a three-dimensional necklace of green and terracotta colour. The stand-till water of the reservoir looks like a large blue-tinted glass mirror reflecting the vast expanse of sky over it. The vastness of the lake stretches as far one's eye can reach. The view of the sunset with the lake in the foreground is breath-taking. One must also experience the moonlit night around the reservoir. The surface of the static water turns into a shiny silvery plate gifted by God.

Jhilimili is situated around 15 km away from Mukutmanipur. A travel from Ranibandh to Jhilimili offers a wonderful exposure to spectacular forest of varying heights on both sides on the route, and finally reaching Jhilimili mounted on the top of a hillock is a great experience. Trains are available from Kolkata to the nearest railhead Bankura . Regular buses are available from Bankura to Mukutmanipur - distance 55 km. Regular buses are also available from Kolkata, a distance 250 km. Hotels can also arrange for cars.

You can also drive down from Kolkata to Mukutmanipur easily. It will take approximately 6 hours. There are two routes. The shorter one (241 km)is Kolkata > Tarakeswar > Arambag > Bishnupur > Bankura > Mukutmanipur. The second possible route (270 km) is Kolkata > Dankuni > Bardhaman > Durgapur (till here NH 19) > Bankura (SH 9)> Mukutmanipur. The second route is recommended because of the excellent road condition in spite of the additional 30 km.

Musafirana Viewpoint

During the construction of the dam, the idol was found by digging the Earth and it is considered to be an evidence of Jain culture. Masak Hill is situated within 2 km of Khatra. Papra Village is situated on the lap of Masak hill. Regarding the nomenclature, it is thought that a large number of mosquitoes prevailed in the bushes of masak hill, hence from 'Masa'(Mosquito) the name Masak came. To go topmost position footwalk odf 1km is necessary. From the top the whole khatra town can be seen.

Tusu  is a famous harvest festival celebrated by the local people of Mukutmanipur on  the last day of ‘Poush’ . During the winter (January- February), witness a ritual that is dedicated to the ‘Folk Goddess, Tusu’. The worshippers pray to the goddess for overwhelming wealth and happiness of their household. The lyrics of the folk songs related to this festival are quite different and you are going to love the melody of ‘Santhal’ and ‘Kurmis’. Don’t miss the  ‘Cockfighting’  which is arranged by the villagers during Tusu festival. As the last day of ‘Poush’ is called Makar Sankranti, people from ‘Santhal’ community celebrate  ‘Makar Parab’  during this time. People enjoy their gala days with meat, rice brew and fowl. A home-made drink named ‘Hanriah’ and dance on Dhamsa Madal’s beats add extra charm to their festivity. Karam festival  is celebrated on  ‘Bhadra Ekadashi’  and is mainly arranged for perfect cultivation and happiness of children. During this celebration, only one branch of a Karam tree is being separated from the tree and unmarried girls worship the branch. Bandna(Saharai)  is another popular tribal festival celebrated on the sacred day of  Kartik Amavasya in the month of November . Villagers give huge importance to their pets as well as animals and they performed the puja mainly for them. People wash their cows and bulls, feed them well, decorate them with ornaments and natural colors. They sing ‘Ohira’ to acknowledge the contribution of the animals in their lives. Celebrating the Saharai festival, Santhal people show their gratitude to ‘Ma Bhagabati’ for golden-yellow paddy fields. Raicharan Mela  usually held in February, is one of the attractions of Mukutmanipur. The mela is named upon a freedom fighter named Raicharan Dhabal Deb who committed suicide instead of giving in himself to the British rulers. People celebrates Raicharan mela to recall his dedication towards the country. Folk culture, local artifacts, handcrafted items and fun-loving people turn the mela into a festivity every year. Palash Utsab  is the festival of colors. You will understand how it feels exactly to play ‘Holi’ with Nature itself. Spring comes here with blooming Palash. Mukutmanipur proudly celebrates Palash utsab or Holi  in Spring . As you might guess from the title of Eugene Levy’s latest series — “The Reluctant Traveler” — he’s a guy who’s happy to stay put.

The show, now in its second season on Apple TV+ , follows Mr. Levy, a 77-year-old comedy legend known for his roles in “Waiting for Guffman,” “American Pie,” “Schitt’s Creek” and more, as he defies his anxieties about airports, heights, temperatures, textures and vast swaths of the animal kingdom. With great consternation, he leaves his comfort zone — Canada, as he often reminds viewers — to shadow an expert moose caller in Sweden, herd 600 sheep through a German resort town and politely avoid an octopus aboard a Greek trawler.

Raised in Hamilton, Ontario, about 40 miles southwest of Toronto, Mr. Levy got his big break in 1972 alongside Martin Short, Gilda Radner, Victor Garber, Andrea Martin and Paul Shaffer in a celebrated production of “Godspell” at Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theater . He has since called the city — and one historic, leafy neighborhood — home.

“Rosedale is a residential area that is right in the heart of Toronto,” he told me over coffee at Tavern on the Green, in New York, where he’d joined the cast of the fourth season of “ Only Murders in the Building .” With new skyscrapers going up “a mile a minute” in Toronto, he said, the scene from our table in Central Park looked a little like his view from Rosedale. He and his wife, Deborah Divine, are neighborhood loyalists — Avant Goût , a local bistro, has been their go-to for decades — but spots in other areas rank high, too.

Here are five of Mr. Levy’s favorite places in Toronto.

1. Terroni Bar Centrale

“Deb and I would usually do our daily constitutional in the morning and end up at Bar Centrale for a latte and some of their fine pastries,” he said, adding that the croissants are especially good at this spot in Summerhill, a neighborhood that borders Rosedale. Occupying the ground floor of the multistory Terroni Price restaurant in a 19th-century brick building, Bar Centrale forgoes the Wi-Fi you might expect with your coffee in favor of a wall’s worth of international magazines and — according to Mr. Levy — a staff full of good conversationalists.

2. Harry Rosen

The flagship of this family-run men’s wear emporium on Bloor Street is one-stop shopping for Mr. Levy. “I hate traveling around to different places to get different things,” he said, very much on brand. This place “has every designer, if that’s what you’re into, and everything from socks to tuxedos.” There’s also a sumptuous grooming department, a tailoring service and an array of coffee table books on topics like racecars, rockers and tattoo art.

3. CN Tower

Touristy? Sure, Mr. Levy acknowledged. Still, this approximately 1,815-foot communications and observation tower offers unrivaled views of the city and Lake Ontario, even if — like him — you avoid the acrophobia-inducing glass-floored sections. “We used to take the kids there when they were young,” he said. “I couldn’t even put my toe on the edge of the glass, but my kids would just destroy me — they would lie down on it.” A less stressful view: Rogers Centre , the stadium next door, where you can see the Toronto Blue Jays play baseball. “I’ve been a Jays fan for, I guess since they started in ’77,” Mr. Levy told me. He clarified his brand of fandom during a Season 2 episode of “The Reluctant Traveler”: “I don’t go and paint my face,” he told the Spanish footballer Héctor Bellerín , but “in a championship game, I’ll stand up and give them, you know, a thumbs-up.”

4. The Royal Conservatory of Music

“The musicianship coming out of the Royal Conservatory is just awesome,” said Mr. Levy, quick to note that his wife “would go there when she was a kid taking piano lessons.” (Students at the 138-year-old institution have included the pianist Glenn Gould and the singer Sarah McLachlan .) Mr. Levy loves concerts at the attached Koerner Hall — “the acoustics are impeccable” — where you can see top students or international stars .

5. Windsor Arms Hotel

The 1972 “Godspell” role became Mr. Levy’s first steady acting paycheck: “That was huge,” he said. And with his windfall (“140 bucks every single week”) he started enjoying meals and late-night cocktails, or cake and coffee, at the Windsor Arms , a 10-minute drive from the theater. The hotel was popular, he said, because it was “quiet and more residential” than others. (The suites feel like genteel prewar apartments, with musical instruments and plenty of plush seating.) One of Mr. Levy’s favorite old haunts there — the Courtyard Cafe — is now the Courtyard, an event space worth a quick wander to see where, among other things, Elton John and David Furnish held an engagement party. Mr. Levy, now a connoisseur of 5:30 p.m. dinners, is no longer the late-night cake-and-coffee guy he once was — but he still gives the place, you know, a thumbs-up.

This coastal city is beloved for its Old Port and storybook lighthouses, and while lobster rolls and clam chowder are famously on offer, the food scene is diverse and thriving, so be sure to swing by a couple of food trucks while in town and don’t miss out on the craft beer scene, either.

Whether you spend your days at sea on a whale-watching tour or strolling through the maze of picturesque cobblestone streets, booking a charming home base for your getaway is a must. Longfellow Hotel

This 48-room Small Luxury Hotels of the World property finally opens its doors this summer in Portland’s historic West End. It’s the first independent, full-service hotel to open in the city in two decades and is owned and operated by Uncommon Hospitality , with design by Post Company . The hotel’s food and beverage amenities will include wellness-focused Twinflower Café and a European-style lobby bar named Five of Clubs. The spa, Astraea, will be a particular highlight with private infrared sauna rooms and experiences tailored toward massage and meditation. Longfellow will also offer a complimentary house car that can provide guest transportation into the Old Port—a must when visiting.

The Blind Tiger

Arranged across a pair of renovated 19th-century homes in the West End, this boutique property blends the coziness of a guest house with the amenities of a discerning hotel. Blind Tiger on Danforth is set in a Federal-style mansion house, while Blind Tiger on Carleton occupies an 1869 Victorian townhouse. The rooms are decorated with local artwork, vintage furniture pieces, and layers of decor accents collected over time, adding to the nostalgic feel. While here, be sure to borrow the property’s picnic blanket and baskets for a day in the sun, or head for the historic speakeasy turned billiard room for an after-dinner tipple.

Black Point Inn

This beachfront hotel is located a few minutes from Portland proper in the Prouts Neck area, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on three sides. The property was originally built in 1878, and now offers 25 rooms and suites, each with individual furnishings and design schemes. There are several areas for guests to sprawl out, from the Sun Porch (stocked with games and books) to the Legendary Cliff Walk (a 1.75-mile trek that winds along the shoreline). Bikes, kayaks, and a pool are also among the offerings, as well as The Chart Room, the hotel’s main restaurant with breathtaking food and locally sourced cuisine.

The Press Hotel

Housed in the historic headquarters of the Portland Press Herald , this Autograph Collection hotel spills across seven different floors with nods to the building’s history (think typewriters and printing press motifs). Even the rooms and suites take design cues from the newspaper; each one comes with a vintage-style ‘journalist’ desk, wood floors, herringbone area rugs, and local artwork. The hotel’s Union restaurant is hyper-focused on sourcing local ingredients from land to sea, including honey harvested on their very own rooftop.

Inn by the Sea

A picturesque oceanfront resort merely a few minutes from Portland, the Inn by the Sea is quintessential Maine. Book one of the property’s Beach Suites to enjoy an outdoor patio and deck overlooking the water, and be sure to begin each morning with a peaceful stroll along the mile of sandy beach. The hotel’s restaurant, Sea Glass, offers an afternoon tea service complete with a lobster roll and front-row views of the sparkling Atlantic Ocean.

Pomegranate Inn

Vibrant and eccentric, this bed and breakfast is a celebration of color and print. It’s housed within an 1884-era building and each room flaunts unique qualities, such as fireplaces with intricate hearths, large windows, and painted murals. And because this is a B&B, expect a lovely breakfast each morning consisting of fresh bites such as an egg and asparagus scramble served with fresh pastries and coffee.
