Virtual Tour of the Drawing and Painting Spaces
Drawing and painting students are encouraged to work across various contemporary and traditional painting, drawing practices, concepts, methods, and techniques. Critique rooms are located throughout the building and provide a professional space for critiques to take place outside of the classroom environment, which mimics the professional world.
The drawing and painting spaces allow students to manipulate the classroom with easels, drawing horses, facilitating different working practices and different media. The windows are facing north to let in natural lighting. Every white wall in the Art Building provides a gallery space for students to display their artwork. The film on the doors provides extra privacy for figure-drawing classes.
Figure drawing courses investigate conceptual and narrative territories while expanding drawing media. Students will have many opportunities to interact with internationally acclaimed visiting artists who provide various views and approaches. The spray booth functions as a safe environment for students to spray fixative on drawings for charcoal or pastels or to experiment with spray paint.
Virtual Tour of the Fabrication Laboratories, "The Fab Labs"
The Fabrication Laboratories, which are often called the Fab Labs, are open to all CVAD students. The lab machinery consists of water jet cutters, CNC routers (computer numeric control), laser cutters, plasma cutters, 3D printers, and a vinyl cutter.
To gain access to the labs, you must complete the safety training and sign the Liability Release Form. Students learn to operate the equipment themselves with the support of a technician. The Fab Labs are unique to CVAD because they focus solely on producing artwork. To view a demonstration in the Fab Lab with Lab Manager Abby Sherrill, visit the Fab Lab demonstration video on CVAD's YouTube channel .

Virtual Tour of the Metalsmithing and Jewelry Facilities
Studio Art students in the metalsmithing and jewelry concentration explore formal and conceptual concerns in jewelry, hollowware and small art objects through traditional and contemporary techniques. Students meet in the main bench classrooms, which consist of soldering torches, drilling stations, and other tools necessary for metalsmithing.
The other studio spaces are dedicated to specific materials and processes. The Casting Room has vacuum machines, a torch, a centrifugal caster and burnout kilns.
The Enameling Studio houses a pneumatic shear and several enameling kilns of various sizes. Enamels are supplied to students. The Plasticity Plus, or ‘Hammer’ room, is where students practice traditional metal-forming techniques using hammers, forming stakes or a spinning lathe. This room also is home to a large powder-coating booth, forge, an annealing torch, and sandblasters.
The Finishing Room contains grinding and polishing machines where students can complete their artwork.

Virtual Tour of the Photography Facilities
Photography students learn traditional black-and-white darkroom techniques. They also learn historic and alternative processes, as well as studio lighting, digital imaging, and installation processes. There is a $30 digital printing credit. After that, printing costs one cent (0.01¢) per square inch. Photography students may also participate in an internship through UNT’s strong network of award-winning alumni.
Virtual Tour of the Printmaking Facilities
New state-of-the-art studios assist students in exploring their conceptual ideas through intaglio, lithography, letterpress, screen printing, monotype, artist’s bookmaking and mixed-media processes.
Our Printmaking faculty are nationally and internationally recognized professional artists who train students with technical skills, promote creative research and mentor students for professional development opportunities.

Virtual Tour of the Texas Fashion Collection: Gloria and Bruzzy Westheimer Research Gallery
The Gloria and Bruzzy Westheimer TFC Research Gallery is a student-oriented collection of more than 700 historical and designer garments and accessories, all selected for their relationship with the UNT curriculum and student-research interests.
A display area, often curated and installed by interns, augments classroom learning and enhances individual student-research projects. These pop-up exhibitions explore design and cultural history, ranging from a fashion design-oriented focus on construction to a sculpture-oriented look at form and materials to an art historical focus on context and style.
The Westheimer Research Gallery is a subset of CVAD's Texas Fashion Collection's permanent holdings. Housed at the nearby Welch Street Complex 1, the TFC includes nearly 20,000 artifacts spanning over 250 years of fashion history.

Twenty-five fifth-grade student council members from Davis Intermediate School in Wylie toured the American Red Cross North Texas Region headquarters in Dallas on a recent field trip.
During this visit, the young leaders gained insight into the vital work carried out by the Red Cross, such as the organization's disaster relief efforts. They also had the chance to learn about life-saving skills taught in Red Cross training courses and how they and their families can volunteer with the Red Cross.
The day started with a brief overview of the Red Cross's disaster response programs. Students listened as disaster program managers explained how volunteers and staff work together to help people during emergencies.
An emergency response vehicle pulled up just in time to deliver lunch to the students from its side window, just like during a disaster response. This hands-on experience allowed the students to see firsthand how the Red Cross delivers essential services to those in need during disasters.
The students then had the opportunity to learn and practice hands-on CPR training. They eagerly absorbed the life-saving skill, understanding its importance in emergencies. Learning CPR at a young age empowers students to act confidently and make a difference in critical moments.
The tour continued with a visit to the Red Cross Biomed testing facility, a fascinating experience for the students. Here, they learned about the processes involved in storing and testing the blood given by donors in the DFW area. The students also learned about the importance of platelets and the Red Cross' ongoing efforts to support individuals with sickle cell disease.
The Red Cross is proud to partner with schools and other organizations to inspire the next generation of leaders to help those in the community who need help and hope in times of crisis.
Support all the urgent humanitarian needs of the American Red Cross.

Cicada map 2024: See where to find Brood XIX and XIII − and where they've already been spotted
For many Americans, the cicadas are here .
Trillions of periodical cicadas are already emerging in a rare, two brood event across multiple states , with more expected to come in the following weeks. Thanks to warm temperatures and good conditions, these 13- or 17-year cicadas are emerging from their underground habitats to eat, mate and die, making a whole lot of noise in the process.
Broods XIX and XIII have not emerged together since 1803, and after this year, won't emerge together again until 2245. While they are largely in different states, they are both emerging in parts of Illinois and Iowa.
So if you've seen one cicada or hundreds of cicadas, here's where you can expect to see more this year.
Are cicadas dangerous? Busting myths on the harmfulness of the noisy pests.
Are cicadas already out in 2024?
Adult periodical cicadas from Brood XIX have been spotted by users in multiple states across the Southeast and Midwest including in Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and Illinois, according to Cicada Safari , a cicada tracking app developed by Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Through Cicada Safari, users can confirm their sightings of cicadas with pictures, look at a map of other cicada sightings, join a leaderboard with other users and learn more information about cicadas.
2024 cicada map: Check out where Broods XIII, XIX are projected to emerge
The two cicada broods are projected to emerge in a combined 17 states across the South and Midwest. They emerge once the soil eight inches underground reaches 64 degrees, expected to begin in many states in May and lasting through late June.
The two broods last emerged together in 1803 , when Thomas Jefferson was president.
What is a brood?
According to the University of Connecticut , broods are classified as "all periodical cicadas of the same life cycle type that emerge in a given year."
A brood of cicadas is made up of different species of the insect that have separate evolutionary histories. These species may have joined the brood at different times or from different sources. These different species are lumped together under the brood because they are in the same region and emerge on a common schedule.
Why do cicadas make so much noise?
You'll have to thank the male cicadas for all that screeching. Male cicadas synchronize their calls and produce congregational songs, according to Britannica , which establish territory and attract females. There is also a courting call that they make before mating.
Unluckily for us, the 13-year and 17-year brood cicadas are the loudest , partially because of the sheer number of them that emerge at once.

- Breaking News
The man who arrested Scottie Scheffler outside the PGA Championship in Kentucky last week violated policy during his encounter with the golfer, officials announced Thursday.
At a news conference packed with media members, Louisville Metro Police Department chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said Bryan Gillis did not turn on his body-worn camera as he had his run-in with Scheffler on May 17 -- a huge no-no.
She stated Gillis has been reprimanded for the act. The city's mayor, Craig Greenberg , also admonished the officer at the newser for his actions.
The two officials, however, said two different cameras -- one fixed on a nearby street pole, and one inside the dash of a police squad car -- did capture part of the arrest. The footage is expected to be released later Thursday.
Here is video that I took of Scheffler being arrested: https://t.co/8UPZKvPCCf pic.twitter.com/9Tbp2tyrJh — Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) May 17, 2024 @JeffDarlington
As we reported , Gillis claimed he initially came into contact with Scheffler at around 6 AM in front of Valhalla Golf Club -- as he was trying to get the star athlete to obey traffic directions.
Gillis, however, said in police documents Scheffler didn't listen to him ... and when he continued onward, he dragged the police officer several feet -- causing injuries.
Scheffler was eventually taken out of his car and placed in handcuffs -- before he was transported to a nearby jail. He was booked on several criminal charges, including felony assault of a police officer.
He was released a short time later ... and returned to the major event without further issues. He was able to finish off the weekend in a tie for eighth place.
Despite the officer's apparent violation, the charges against Scheffler still appear to be moving forward. He's due in court for a hearing on the matter on June 3.

LIV Golf team championship to be played at Maridoe Golf Club in North Texas
Maridoe golf club in carrollton will host the event from sept. 20-22, the league announced..
By SportsDay Staff

LIV Golf, the Saudi Arabia-backed league that brought upheaval to the professional golf world , is coming to North Texas.
Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton will host LIV Golf’s team championship from Sept. 20-22, the league announced Wednesday.
Maridoe owner Albert Huddleston , who bought what had been the old Columbian Club in 2014, has long wished to host a major golf event . During the pandemic, Maridoe was a haven for golfers, hosting events such as the 2019 Trans-Mississippi Amateur, the 2020 Southern Amateur, East-West Matches and the USGA Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship in 2021.
“Members of Maridoe Golf Club are pleased to host the LIV Golf Team Championship in September,” Huddleston said in a statement Wednesday. “Maridoe is designed to be an enjoyable but demanding member’s club while always ready to provide a great test for elite golfers to entertain golf enthusiasts.”

Related: Why Dallas billionaire Albert Huddleston is hosting LIV Golf at his Maridoe Golf Club
Backed by the billions of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, LIV Golf has been a lightning rod of controversy since its inception three years ago, to the point of protests from families of 9/11 victims. Critics characterize it as a public relations tool to cover up Saudi Arabia’s human rights record.
The tour’s launch also spawned lawsuits from LIV Golf and the PGA Tour, but in June of last year the sides surprisingly announced they were joining forces and dropping all legal battles. Not much has come to fruition, however, with talks stalling and many details yet to be hashed out .
“Our LIV Golf players are looking forward to playing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with its great golf tradition,” LIV Golf commissioner and CEO Greg Norman said in a statement. “Texas is legendary for producing and hosting great golfers who set a high bar while competing for championships. Our LIV Golf Team Championship at Maridoe Golf Club will be a great experience for our players and all the fans in attendance.”
Star golfers who left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf include major winners Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnston, Jon Rahm and former SMU golfer Bryson DeChambeau .
“I’m excited to play this course and compete in front of Texas fans for our closing event and can’t wait to bring LIV Golf’s electrifying energy and fierce competition to Dallas,” DeChambeau said in the release.
LIV Golf recently announced its individual championship would be held Sept. 13-15 at Bolingbrook Golf Club, a public course about 30 miles southwest of Chicago.
