Nestled on the banks of River Krishna in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada is the second-largest populated city in the state. Known as the ‘commercial, political and media capital of Andhra Pradesh’, the city is one of the most rapidly growing urban cities in India. Covered by hills and canals, Vijayawada is also home to numerous caves and rock-cut temples carved out of these caves.

Vijayawada is an amalgamation of the old world and the new; the air echoes with the clanking of temple bells mixed with the cacophony of traffic, the ancient monuments stand in perfect harmony with the modern architecture of the metro city. Among the most popular places to visit in Vijayawada are Bhavani Island, Victoria Museum, Hazratbal Mosque, Rajiv Gandhi Park, and Kolleru Lake etc., in addition to the host of temples and several caves. Other than this, the city is mostly a base to explore the nearby attractions like the Undavalli Caves, Kondapalli Fort, and Mangalagiri Hill etc. 

Vijayawada is well connected to the rest of India by rail, road, and air. Regular rail and bus services ply to and fro the city of Vijayawada; buses being operated both by private and government owners. Vijayawada airport, 13.5 km. away from the main city, is the principal airport that connects Vijayawada to the rest of India, as well as the world. Jet Airways, SpiceJet and Kingfisher Airlines connect the city with Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. Also, it is situated along the Chennai-Howrah, and Chennai-Delhi rail route, and is thus easily accessible.

AAA is giving their best tips for autumn travel opportunities

BOISE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) - With Autumn fast approaching, the cooler weather presents some exciting travel opportunities.

“For empty nesters or those with flexible work schedules, now is the perfect time to see the sights without the crowds,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “There’s definitely a lull between Labor Day and Thanksgiving, and travelers can take advantage.”

Based on AAA data, domestic travel bookings for Sept. and Oct. are down 7% compared to last year, despite the cost of travel dropping by 3% from a year ago.

“We had such strong numbers for Memorial Day and the 4th of July that some travelers may be pressing ‘pause’ this fall,” Conde said. “But if you do plan a spontaneous getaway, several factors may work in your favor.”

Domestic airfare costs about the same as a year ago, averaging $660 per roundtrip ticket and bookings up 1%. Hotel bookings are up 13%, while car rentals down 6% and the cost of renting has decreased by 5%.

International flights are about 3% higher, averaging $1,315 per roundtrip ticket, the same as a year ago. Hotel bookings are up 6%, while tour bookings are down 14-15% but costs are up 1-2%.

Domestic and international cruises are up 19% and 6%, respectively, with the average costs similar to last year.

“Regionally, some travelers will also seek out a quick adventure to the Oregon Coast, Denver, Billings and Butte, MT, or to the nearby National Parks,” Conde said. “With average gas prices 50 or 60 cents per gallon cheaper than a year ago, taking a trip will certainly be very tempting as long as the weather holds out.”

AAA’s fall travel tips include planning for sudden temperature changes, replacing windshield wipers, searching for the best places to see fall foliage, and watching for wildlife when traveling in the backcountry. Also, research fall festivals in the area and make sure to book the first flight in the morning if you can, the airplanes are usually on schedule with fewer delays since they’re already on the ground.
