-5***** I am writing today ''For Your Situation Awareness'' of the unprofessional service, that almost turn it to a nightmare, that we received from Cruise America-East Dundee location at: 895 Richardson rd., East Dundee IL 60118 on July 22, 2023, and almost ruined EAA Airventure Oshkosh 2023 experience for us this week. I'm going to try to explain everything from the beginning so you can understand what my family and I went through last Saturday before we start heading to Oshkosh. Every year for the last 10 years we have been renting an RV from Cruise America to go to the EAA Oshkosh Airventure Show. For the past two years we have been renting from the East Dundee location, because we keep getting better deals online. We know the drill, we know their policies and we always return our vehicles back the way they were, and sometimes even better and cleaner. Last year our family and two more of our friends rented from the same location and we were overcharged for cleaning fees when we returned them even if the RVs were spotless. After emailing central headquarters customer care and sending pictures of proof, the fee was removed from our final bill. I guess the representative/owner at East Dundee did not like that and held it against us this year by waiting till the last minute to tell us they would not give us a vehicle and jeopardize our vacation! Last Friday, July 21st, we called and left a message, to schedule an appointment for pick up and never got a response. Next morning, Saturday the 22nd, when I called the location at 10:30 AM to ask what time we could pick up our reservation they told us that they were getting ready to close in 45 minutes. We were going to lose our reservation and they also told us that they called us and left a message, which they never did. Me and my wife jumped in the car right away and were there in 20 minutes. When we got there the front office was locked and after asking an employee on the lot about who to talk to regarding our reservation, he took our credit card and driver's license and went inside to the locked office to start the paperwork. 10 minutes later, he came out and he told us that his boss told him to tell us that he is refusing to give a rental RV and he "does not want our business" due to that incident that happened last year regarding the fee for the RV wash, and to go somewhere else. Keep in mind that it was Saturday and 12 o'clock, and we were aware that all locations were closing at 1 o'clock and don't open again till Monday. Also, I reminded him that our reservation has been made since April with a down payment, EAA air show and campground tickets were prepaid too. If he didn't want our business, he had plenty of time to let us know and not wait till the last minute. Even worse, make us drive all the way there... We called the corporate office and after three calls with different people we finally got some help from someone and they found us a new RV from a different corporate location in Franklin Park IL. As it stands Cruise America-East Dundee location at: 895 Richardson rd., East Dundee IL 60118 lost our business forever! For future reference and FYSA: stay away from Cruise America-East Dundee Thank you

Go elsewhere. I've heard nothing but horror stories about this place from other customers. They overcharge and cancel reservations last minute after families have made vacation plans. Please write to corporate headquarters to let them know that you will never do business with them again. I will do the same. I recommend you try RV Share made up of private owners who rent their RVs and really care about their renters.

RUN AWAY! Rented an RV over the weekend. Upon returning it we informed the owner, Ryan, that all of the water features: kitchen sink, toilet, and shower leaked. The shower leaked so bad it was running from the walls so we didn't use these features as intended. Ryan's response was that per section 9c of the rental contract, he does not have to guarantee anything other than the vehicle itself works. Reading other reviews it seems he doesn't even do this. I wish I would have read the other reviews before giving him any kind of business. All of the negative reviews are not a conspiracy- it's a pattern of horrible customer service and business management. Avoid so you can have a pleasant trip. Edit- we contacted Cruise America Corporate and they were helpful and apologetic after learning of our interaction with the owner of this location. We will not be giving THIS location any more business and warning others to stay clear.

I worked here 10 or so years ago, as the Porter/RV Detailer. After reading all of these reviews, I'm laughing hysterically at how they still haven't changed. When I quit, the douche owner said I'd never amount to anything other than being a Walmart greeter. I should add, I was willing to put in two weeks before leaving, but Ryan told me he'd just consider that day my last day....AKA technically FIRED. He also refused to give me my last check. Well, he lost a fight with the labor board AND unenmployment, against me. He had an attorney, and I didn't, and was just a 21 year old kid at the time. These idiots FORGED a 1099 form supposedly filled out by me.....but my name was spelled wrong. How the hell would I spell my own name wrong? Had I thought faster, I would have gotten them for signature forgery. They also lied to the judge about what my job was, and even she knew they were full of it. A few years later, I was trying to get another trucking job (Walmart, eh?), and Ryan, the owner, LIED and said I had never worked there. Well, got the job, buddy. Now, I'm working an even better trucking job, 1500-2000 a WEEK. Much better than the measley, $9 an hour, under the table, with a forged 1099 you were paying me. These guys are CROOKED. I worked here for almost 2 years. STAY. AWAY.

If I could give less than 1 star, I would have. I didn't rent the RV for a camping trip. I rented it because I was moving 2100 miles across the country and the CDC has suspended air travel for pets. I had to get 4 cats and a dog across the country in time to meet the moving van at my new home. Cruise America was one of the few places that do one way RV rentals. I'd never driven anything bigger than a pickup truck, and the rental agent said the only vehicle that they rented one-way was the 25 footer. On the day I was to pick up the RV, I was informed I was being given "a free upgrade". They had given the vehicle I had reserved TWO MONTHS IN ADVANCE to someone else and gave me a THIRTY FOOTER instead. I didn't really want a 25 foot vehicle and the guy is acting like he's doing me a favor giving me something BIGGER. Besides using more fuel, I couldn't believe it's condition. It was FILTHY, inside and out. It had 141,000+ MILES ON it. It had 2 doors on the storage compartment that were extremely difficult to open and 1 that was hopelessly jammed. It had a drawer in the back that continually rolled out and slammed shut as the vehicle moved. It had a door on the shower stall that opened and cras hff ed shut. It had a refrigerator that STUNK. On the first day, after driving 700 miles, on a steep grade, it started making the most God-awful noise I've ever heard a vehicle make. I had to park over night and back track 50 miles to a Cruise America hub to have a mechanic look at it. He found nothing wrong, but he couldn't duplicate the conditions under which it made the noise. It cost me half a day's delay, 100 miles worth of fuel, and my peace of mind. I made it to my destination. The guy at the place I turned in the RV couldn't believe they had sent sent someone such a great distance in a vehicle that should have been retired from the fleet. I returned the vehicle every bit as clean as I got it, and Cruise America had the gall to charge me $100 cleaning fee. If you have a choice, DON'T RENT FROM CRUISE AMERICA!

We recently rented a Cruise America rv from this location for a cross country trip. The owner was very good to us. He was very thorough in explaining how the rv worked and what he expected when we brought it back. We went through the checklist before return and everything was very clean so we received our full deposit back. The rv did have a little damage but it was in no way our fault so it was not an issue. They have several rv's at this location and all seemed to be in good shape. I would definitely recommend this rental location as we no problems with the owner or rental unit itself.

Please steer clear from the 895 Richardson Rd E Dundee location , I've never had such horrible, horrible service, I've never left a bad review for any business but pray this blesses someone else and steers them clear from the nightmare we had with this owner, as two business owning adults with a family of 5 we rented the largest RV 1) out break light was out , we noticed when we got into Kentucky, 2) the tow haul indicator kept flashing on and off and when going up into the smoky mountains the RV was making a horrible sound almost as if the breaks were about to give out, you can only imagine the feeling of horror , when we called the 1800 number we were provided and gave the number on our keys the number didn't even match the RV we were in and we were told to keep the tow haul off unless going downhill because from description the vehicle could be overheating , when I tried to call the location and left a message after a day the owner called and said "don't you see the sticker on the dash that says to leave the tow haul on!" I said I am in the RV now there is no sticker stating that, the 1800 number told me to turn it off his response was "do whatever you want!" I was in awe and desperate and literally had to plead with him to please tell me what was the safest route what I should do for the safety of my family wasn't about what I wanted to do and he said don't call here call the 1800 number I can't help you! I have never in 43 years left a bad review for any business , no matter the service because gracefully I know there is no perfect business but this, this is unethical and just plain out evil, returning the RV was another mission , like he's just dying to hit people with fees , return is no later than 11am we were outside at 10:30am business never opened we sat there till 11:30 no call, no answer we had to call another location who respectfully told us "your not the only people who call with issues from that location" and helped us return it so his wish to charge us couldn't happen. Please be mindful I wish I looked at the reviews before booking, you will see the repetitiveness in their reviews , don't destroy your vacation, .

This place is still the worst experience of my life it's been a year and nothing has come close in my life to how bad this guy was and I have had a heart attack and a leg amputated !!!!

This had to be the worst ordeal I been through renting anything! !! The owner and his little side kid are crooks !! I cannot believe that the corporation of cruise america let this happen the worst customer service ever !! I knew I was in a jam when the older couple in front of me were getting the shady by this guy he kept there deposit for crumbs in the eating area. He called me out to show me some dried bugs on the bumper of the rv and splash marks on the fender from his shot hole of a parking lot during the rain. I would not recommend this place to anyone and for the condition of his RV'S they shake, rattle and shit for crap. I didn't have heat or a fridge for half the trip I asked him to look at it when we were turning it in and he said he is not a repair man TOTAL GARBAGE !!!!

Rented an 26-foot RV from this location for a 2 week family trip in late August. The RV was in good working order (I believe it had about 60K miles on it), and took us across 1500 miles of the United States and back with no issues. Shower, toilet, sink, stove, water heater, generator, fridge -- all in good working order. The RV was a bit noisy at highway speeds, but since it is basically a box truck hung with cabinets, we weren't really surprised. Very comfortable to sleep in, and we prepared every meal but one in that kitchen, and most in the RVs dining area. I'll confess that the rules for renting and returning the RV are quite onerous when compared to a car rental, but everything was made clear at the outset, so we were sure to dot every "i" before returning (had the exterior professionally cleaned at a truck wash, returned the interior spic and span). We knew we'd be on the hook for a windshield chip we picked up on the way, for which we owed $50 to repair, but again, we knew about that up front and had agreed to the terms. Overall, we were very pleased with the experience of RVing, and with the service we received. Ryan and Lance were both helpful. Lance provided excellent recommendations for local restaurants and places to stock up supplies. Ryan was pleasant on the phone, returned our calls, and answered all questions.
