At the peak of Journey’s career, the world has witnessed their greatness, and the stability of the band’s dynamic boosted their career even more to the highest point. Journey’s seventh album Escape yielded the most unforgettable songs that the band has produced throughout their entire career. the AOR gods blessed us with “Open Arms”, “Who’s Crying Now”, “Still They Ride”, and of course, “Don’t Stop Believin’” inside . The album was the most successful studio album of all time, and perhaps the band’s greatest as well.

But one song, in particular, was left out of dialog when it comes to chart-topping discussions. “Stone of Love” , might’ve been an incredible song for some, but the attention it received was criminally underrated.

“Stone of Love” was born out of Neal Schon’s ability to compose music, with Jonathan Cain and Steve Perry providing lyrics to the song. It was a hallelujah moment for the trio. As Schon worked on the song’s lethal touch of rock, Perry and Cain brought nostalgia to the table, making you reminisce the moment you laid eyes on someone you love during the summertime. The soaring high vocals of Steve and Neal’s fortuitous skill to make any track be remembered as quintessential, together, it’s a win-win.

It was “Stone In Love” that set the mood for Escape’s impact on the audience and the reason why it’s a classic rock staple. It may not be as fancy as the other Journey songs, but forever it will remain as an instant fan favorite.

“Stone In Love” started life at a party in Journey guitarist Neal Schon 's house in San Rafael, California. He came up with the song's signature riff and structure, titling it “Stoned In Love.” It changed after singer Steve Perry and keyboardist-guitarist Jonathan Cain finished the lyrics.

Although never a commercial single, “Stone In Love” was a popular rock radio track for the San Francisco Bay Area band, as well as a staple of its live sets.

The Escape album marked the debut of former Babys member Cain, who joined Journey in April 1981 to replace founding member Gregg Rolie . Perry said his impact on the band was immediate — “Jonathan Cain is such a great lyricist, he helped me go to another place as a writer.”

Escape was Journey's most successful studio album, hitting Number One on the Billboard 200, staying on the charts for 146 weeks, and selling more than five million copies.

During the Escape tour, Journey left its own headlining dates to open the first show of the Rolling Stones ' 1981 North American tour on September 25 in Philadelphia.

Another memorable show on the tour was at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, where the entire roster of the 49ers football team — en route to its first Super Bowl title — joined Journey onstage.

Just three months after Escape was released, Schon released Untold Passion , a collaboration with keyboardist Jan Hammer .

Man, I have the Escape album on Super Audio CD and you don't know what you are missing until you hear it opposed to normal, Ross Valory is amazing in this song, the soundstage is so "visible" and present in this album. The re-mastering is amazing. Anyway, this song is my favorite off this album, it's such a feel good song. The words seem pretty obvious, like most Journey songs, they're about Steve Perry's (or whoever) crazy love and passion for someone. I just like how vivd his descriptions are, and the solo/breakdown gives me goosebumps. This is a great song, and if you have a SACD player, buy this album now. The vocals are so clean the hair will stand up on your arms at high levels.

@l @erall_us IDK if we are talking about the same thing but, I remember riding around in my aunt’s Brand New Camaro (none of that ‘spoiler’ shit on the back either, ruining the car’s beautiful lines), blasting Journey and other stuff that was big at the time, and I remember thinking, “This sounds unlike anything I’ve heard”, and “this must be what they mean by ‘State Of The Art’ “, cuz that’s exactly what that awesome sound seemed like to my pre-teen self lol…it sounded like “The Future” or at least, like the then-Present. <br /> <br /> Hipsters like to talk like groups like Journey and Foreigner et al are and were always hopelessly outdated, like, “corporate rock”, or “yacht rock”, but those people are sheep. If it hits you in the gut, it’s fucking GOOD, period, don’t get all caught up in thinking like critics decide what’s “good”…they may help to decide what’s “cool”, but they don’t know any more about “good music” than you or I do… but then, nobody will ever admit to following, say, Lester Bangs’ record reviews as Gospel, and if they ain’t got enough courage To admit it the truth to themselves, they/it ain’t worth considering…

Great song... when I heard the intro at monsters of rock this year I literally crumbled in excitement... lyrics are amazing and the feeling of reminisence makes me want to cry...

This is one of my favorite songs ever!! Some of the lines represent some things in my life. For example, my "golden girl" is a girl that I've had a crush on for the longest time. And the "old dusty road" is a little road that connects my street to hers.

The "Golden Girl" reference has special meaning to me as my girl in 1980 was a blonde water polo player from California...Sigh. More fuel for Mid-Life crises......

On Monday, June 24, the 25-year-old Packers quarterback proposed to pro volleyball player Ronika Stone while they were on a romantic trip in Italy.

Love announced the news on Instagram , sharing photos of him and Stone, 26, exploring Castello di Celsa , a 13th Century castle in Tuscany, as he proposed on one knee.

"First step to forever💍❤️," the NFL player captioned the post.

A few days later, the couple also shared a video montage from their engagement, which included the moment Love proposed and Stone's stunned reaction.

"A love etched in stone," Love captioned the clip.

The future newlyweds' announcement comes almost four years after they became Instagram official in September 2020. At that time, Stone posted a selfie of them together with the caption, "Have you cleaned your mirror yet?"

Throughout their relationship, Love and Stone have maintained privacy, occasionally sharing glimpses of their life together on Stone's social media.

In November 2023, Stone, who is also the daughter of former NFL star Ron Stone, created a tribute video for Love's 25th birthday.

"25 years around the sun for my guy. I’m so blessed to have you in my life," she wrote. "To see how hard you work while always putting others before yourself is inspiring. You’re the perfect partner for me. A man with such a big heart, it was only right your last name is Love. I love you forever."

To celebrate Valentine's Day this year, Love shared a photo carousel of images of him and Stone over the years.

One photo he included showed the couple riding on horses together. Other images captured the two posing together on a volleyball court.

"Happy Valentine’s Day to this special lady right here you are my ride or die and i love you so much! You are my world 🖤🤞🏽," he wrote.

While on vacation in Italy, Love posted a series of photos on his Instagram page Sunday, capturing the proposal that took place in Tuscany in the province of Siena at Castello di Celsa , a breathtaking castle built in the 13th century according to its website.

Love and Stone have been dating for four years and have used social media to express their feelings toward one another .

The couple has been on a romantic vacation in Italy this month that now appears to be the fantastic voyage of a lifetime.
