About Khajuraho

Khajuraho is a very small town located in the Chhatarpur District of Madhya Pradesh. But centuries ago, it was the capital of the major Rajput kingdom of the region – Chandela Dynasty . And they ruled in the 10th – 12th century. So, that is when they constructed the world famous temples of Khajuraho , which are a UNESCO world heritage now and popular all over the world as the “Erotic Temple Complex”.

Where to stay on your trip to Khajuraho

The Khajuraho main road that one takes on a trip to Khajuraho from NH39 to enter the city has a lot of hotels and resorts on either side. Actually, you can browse and book one here . After all, the advantage of residing on this road is that the temples are very close by. Actually we stayed at The Clarks Khajuraho . The hotel was neat and clean, with big premises, in campus parking and good food. And it was only 5 minutes drive to the western temples complex of Khajuraho from this hotel. Also, it was just 6-7km from the NH. So, overall, we could save time both ways on our trip to Khajuraho, traveling to and from Khajuraho as well as visiting the temples. Even the area right near the Western Temple Complex has a lot of stay options.

Can I do a day trip to Khajuraho

Khajuraho is well connected from most of the major cities of MP and also cities in UP. Definitely it is possible to do a day trip to Khajuraho, visiting the temple complexes and returning by the evening. But, from our own experience, I will highly recommend staying overnight. Because it gives one chance to visit the temples towards the evening and early morning when it is not very hot. And also not very crowded. We visited the main complex – the western Group of Temples the next day morning, after staying overnight. And it was really very pleasant to visit the complex early in the morning. Since, the cool, pleasant weather supported a lot. And we energetically visited all the temples, comfortably covering the grounds between them.

khajuraho city tour

Also, driving and then a lot of walking between the temples will be tiring in my opinion. However, if you are really constrained by time, yes, it is possible to do a day trip to the temples of Khajuraho. But mostly it will be a very long and tiring day.

How to reach Khajuraho

Khajuraho is well connected with the rest of India through both roadway and railways. In fact, on our trip to Khajuraho, we came to Khajuraho from Bandhavgarh after doing a tiger safari in Bandhavgarh . However, one can easily reach here from Agra, Delhi, Gwalior, Bhopal or other parts of India via road. And the NH39 , which will connect Khajuraho to most of these other towns and cities, is being converted in a very nice 6 lane national highway at the time of this writing. And looking at the pace of work that we observed on the roads, in a few months, it will be fully ready. So, this will drastically reduce the travel time between Khajuraho and other towns. Although Khajuraho also has an airport, but there are hardly any commercial planes. So, road and rail are the primary means to reach Khajuraho. However, one can always fly into Gwalior, which has a very commercialised airport with many flights operating from all over India. From Gwalior, it will be a 5 hours road trip to Khajuraho.

General tips on doing a trip to Khajuraho

  • The Western Group of Temples, which is the main temple complex in Khajuraho opens up for public as early as 6:00am and is open till 6:00pm (or sunset, whichever happens earlier).
  • Prefer visiting the Western Group of Temples during your trip to Khajuraho in the early morning hours as the crowd is least and the climate is pleasant even in summers
  • There is a ticket of INR 40/- per head for Indian citizen to enter the western Temple complex
  • There are government designated guides available at the entry of Western Group of Temples in Khajuraho in case you want to hire one. Audio guides are also available.
  • For visiting the Southern and Eastern Group of Temples in Khajuraho, you can either hire a guide or rent a tuk-tuk (autorickshaw) which will take you to the different temples through the lanes of the village.
  • Wear comfortable cotton cloths and comfortable shoes or slippers to walk. When visiting the temple complexes, you will need to often leave your shoes at the stairs. So slip-ons really help.
  • October – February will be the best time to visit the Temple Complexes of Khajuraho as the weather is otherwise too hot.
  • You can carry water bottle inside the main temple complex but carrying food is not allowed. If you have something with you, you can leave it at the entry gate and collect later.
  • Some temples like the Chausath Yogini Temple are located far from the others, so, do designate ample time to visit these. It is one of the oldest temples of Khajuraho. Check our upcoming writeup to know more about the temples of Khajuraho that you shouldn’t miss visiting –

An idle itinerary for a trip to Khajuraho Temple Complexes

Day1 : arrival in khajuraho, visiting eastern & southern temple complexes.

On your trip to Khajuraho, target to arrive in Khajuraho by max noon. Check-in into your hotel. Have lunch. We arrived in Khajuraho by 2:00pm. And after a swift check-in, we had our lunch. After getting refreshed, by 4:00pm, we were ready to go out and explore the temples of Khajuraho.

Honestly, we didn’t know so much about the Group of Temples and in what order to visit them. As we were driving towards the western complex, a guide stopped us. And suggested us to visit the Eastern and Southern Group of Temples today instead. We did the same. And by the time we were done visiting the major temples of the Eastern Temple Complex and Southern Group of Temples in Khajuraho , it was almost 6:00pm. The guide also gave us information on when the Western Temple complex opens the next day in the morning. And then we departed and came back to our rooms. We had an early dinner.

Vamana Temple

Today, some of the major temples that we visited included – Parsvanatha Temple, Brahma Temple, Chaturbhuj Temple, Vamana Temple and Duladeo Temple .

Breakfast was included in our hotel room plan, which means we had already pre paid for it. So, we had two choices for the next day. (1) to wake up early in the morning and visit the temple complexes as early as 6:00am in the morning, come back by 8:30am and then have breakfast and checkout for the next destination – Orchha. Or, (2) to wake up little late, have breakfast early at 7:00am and then start for the temple complex by 8:30am, come back to hotel and check out by 11:30am.

The second option was delaying our checkout and thus our road to the next destination. So, we decided to opt for the first one. You can do the same.

Day2 : Visiting Western Group of Temples at Khajuraho and departure

Morning, 5:30am, we woke up, got fresh and started for the Western Group of Temples at Khajuraho by 6:00am. We parked our vehicle in the parking area right in front of main entrance. Although, you have to access it by turning left twice from the road in front of the temple complex.

We bought our tickets and entered the Western Group of Temple Complex . There was hardly anyone at this time inside the temple. We saw a beautiful sunrise and witnessed the first rays of the sun entering the temples in the complex and fall on the idols. This is the reason, we will highly recommend visiting these temples early in the morning.

khajuraho city tour

We visited all the temples in the complex including the Lakshmana Temple, Vishvanath Temple, Kandariya Mahadev Temple, Parvati Temple, Jagdambi Temple and Chitragupta Temple .

You can comfortably finish visiting the Western Group of Temples Complex at Khajuraho in 2.5 – 3 hrs. We finished visiting all the temples by 8:15am. And we were back to our hotel by 8:30am. Then, we headed straight for breakfast. After finishing breakfast, we comfortably checked out by 10:00 am and started for the next destination – Orchha.

PS: We followed the above itinerary on our road trip to Madhya Pradesh from Bangalore . Wherein, we reached Khajuraho after doing a tiger safari in Bandhavgarh National Park . And later proceeded to the ancient historical city Orchha.

Khajuraho is an ancient city known for its magnificent temples ( Mandir ) and intricate sculptures. The Khajuraho city is located in the Chattarpur district of Madhya Pradesh and holds spellbinding historical tales and architectural grandeurs. As per the historical archives, the Khajuraho temple site had 85 temples during the 12th century spread over 20 square kilometres. Among these, only 25 temples have survived the course of time, spread over six square kilometres.

The History of Khajuraho Group of Temples

Built in the mediaeval century by the Chandela Dynasty, the UNESCO site of 'Khajuraho Group of Monuments' is famous for its Nagara-Style architecture and graceful sculptures of nayikas (Hindu Mythological female protagonists) and deities. The splendour of the intricate statues is one of the reasons that makes it a popular site to visit among tourists. Built between 950-1050 AD by the Chandela Dynasty, these temples represent various forms of meditation, spiritual teachings and relationships through stimulating art. The temples are famous for their craftsmanship that consist of splendid demonstrations of fine sculptures and exceptional architectural skill, making them one of the most stunning UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India.

Places to visit in Khajuraho

Beautiful, detailed and expressive, the sculptures of the Khajuraho temples ( Mandir ) will leave you in awe and wonder. These temples are divided into three groups: Eastern, Western and Southern.

The Western group of temples

The Western group is very close to the archaeological museum and it includes the temples of Lakshmana, Matangeshwara, Varaha, Kandariya Mahadev, Chitragupta, Parvati, Vishwanatha and Nandi. This group of temples has approximately 870 marvellous sculptures engraved on the interior and exterior walls. Just after entering the Western group, the plaque on the right gives a brief introduction to the history of the Khajuraho. The main attraction of this place is a Shivling and the beautiful floral carving in the Sanctum of the temple. The three outer sections of the walls depict the sculptures of gods, goddesses and Hindu mythological creatures.

Kandariya Mahadeva Temple

Built between 1025 to 1050, the temple rises in successive towers like a range of hills. The lintel of the temple has a four- armed Shiva lined by Lord Brahma, the creator and Lord Vishnu, the preserver. Read More

Jagdambi Temple

Jagdambi is another name for Goddess Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva. On a platform inside the sanctum of the temple, a sculpture of Lord Vishnu is beautifully carved. There are also a few sculptures of sura-sundaris (celestial beauty) which are particularly appealing.

Chitragupta Temple

This temple is dedicated to Lord Surya, the Sun. There is also a sculpture of eleven-headed and eight-armed Lord Vishnu in the south of the temple. The sculptures of the divine couple deities Brahma-Brahmani, Shiva- Parvati, Bhairava-Bhairavi, and Lakshmi-Narayana have special artistic features.

This museum has some amazing sculptures and artefacts which are well displayed with their names and prospective age. An 11th - 12th-century statue of Sambhava Nath is placed in the Jain gallery which is situated on the left of the museum. A sculpture of Varaha with six heads and a dancing Ganesh are the exquisite statues to see in the museum. There are many other temples in the Western Group, which have similar architectural significance.

The Eastern Group of Temples

Vamana temple.

Vamana Temple is dedicated to the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is built between 1050-75. This temple has few erotic carvings and a four-armed standing Lord Vishnu on its lintel.

Javari Temple

Built between 1075 and 1100, Javari Temple stands on a high plinth and has a raised Shikhara. Its delicately carved Makara Torana arch is a fine example of the stone carving skills of the people of that era.

Parsvanatha Temple

This temple is one among the couple of old temples that were constructed using honey-coloured sandstone. This Jain temple was built between 950-970 but also holds images of deities of the Vaishnava faith, Lord Vishnu.

Adinatha Temple, Santinatha Temple, Ghantai Temple and  Brahma Temple are a few other Jain temples in this group with significant architectural and historical features.

The Southern Group of Temples

Duladeo temple.

The temple is also known as Kunwar Math, and the term Dula is associated with the notion of the Bridegroom's temple. The flying celestials on the uppermost Shikhara tower are the most impressive features of this temple. An amazing artistic skill can be observed in the carved jewellery of female figures of the temple. It is considered that the temple was built between 1100-1150

Chaturbhuja Temple

This temple is the only temple in Khajuraho that does not have a single erotic sculpture. At the entrance of the temple, the sculpture of Ganga and Jamuna is beautifully carved. There is also a marvellous sculpture of Lord Vishnu that seems as if the god is about to step out and bless his devotees.

Complete guide to visiting Khajuraho: karma sutra temples + tigers

Thinking about adding Khajuraho to your India itinerary? This small town in central India has a lot to offer between the Khajuraho group of temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Panna National Park, full of tigers and other wildlife, as well as other smaller attractions.

This guide has everything you need to know to plan a visit to Khajuraho including how to get there, places to stay and the best Khajuraho activities to do while you’re there.

I visited Abhaneri as part of a 2 week India trip that also included  Varanasi , Abhaneri ,  Orchha  and the Golden Triangle (Delhi, Jaipur and Agra).

If you’re wondering where Khajuraho is, the town is in the state of Madhya Pradesh about 300km south of Lucknow (8 hours’ drive) and 450km southeast of Agra (9-10 hours’ drive).

Visiting Khajuraho temples

The temple complex is the main thing to do in Khajuraho and deservedly so as some of these temples are over a thousand years old and still covered in incredibly ornate carvings.

Those carvings are what’s made these temples extra famous because some of them depict scenes from the karma sutra including tantric sex. Don’t go showing up to Khajuraho expecting to see lots of sex scenes though, the explicit carvings are only a very small proportion of the temple decorations. There are far more carvings of more normal things like animals and plants and the karma sutra ones can be hard to spot.

The temples were built between the 11 th  and 13 th  centuries but when the town was abandoned, they were taken over by jungle and not rediscovered until fairly recently. While there were originally about 85 temples, only around 20 have survived.

There are two parts to the temple complex, the Western and Eastern groups of temples. The western group is larger and more numerous so if you only have time for one, those are the ones to see.

You’ll want at least 2 hours minimum to explore the temple complex. We kept our visit short because the weather was super hot and humid and there is minimal shade but if you bought big hats or sun umbrellas this wouldn’t be an issue.

Khajuraho Temple Entry Fees

You do need to pay a small entry fee for admission into the Khajuraho temple complex. It’s best to buy your tickets from the office onsite. While some websites do offer online bookings, these aren’t reliable. The cost for foreigners is 250 rs per person.

More Things To Do In Khajuraho

Spot wildlife at panna national park.

The next biggest Khajuraho attraction is the panna national park or panna tiger reserve. The park is over 500km2 and is home to not just tigers but leopards, wolves, hyenas and vultures. There are also lots of interesting plants, birds and reptiles if that’s your thing.

Tiger sightings are far from guaranteed, unfortunately it’s more common not to see one, but if you can visit on more than one day and arrive in the early morning or evening then you’ll have the best chance.

Even if you don’t spot any tigers or notable wildlife, there are two beautiful waterfalls in the ark which are worth a visit.

It’s compulsory to have a guide in the park, not a surprise given the dangerous animals wandering around, and it’s located 40km from Khajuraho town so I would definitely recommend booking a day tour (see best options below) to kill two birds with one stone.

The entry fee system is complex because there are er person and per vehicle charges but expect to pay between 800 and 3000 rs depending on the size of your group.

Read more about wildlife spotting in this India safari guide .

How Do You Get To Khajuraho?

While Khajuraho is fairly remote, it’s not at all inaccessible. In fact, you’ll find several options for getting to Khajuraho whether you want to do it under your own steam or have transport arranged for you.

Getting to Khajuraho by Train

Indian Railways are ubiquitous and it’s always the cheapest way to get around the country. You can take trains from Khajuraho Junction all over the country, including to Delhi via Agra.

Khajuraho Junction is not within walking distance from either the temples or any of the accommodations so you will need to hire a taxi or rickshaw to cover the last mile. This is typically fairly cheap if you barter.

Getting to Khajuraho By Plane

Flying into Khajuraho Airport is the quickest most direct way to get to Khajuraho, although far from the cheapest. If you’re short on time you can catch a domestic flight into Khajuraho from major cities and be in and out within the day.

Note: Khajuraho Airport is not currently operational, check for updates here

Getting to Khajuraho on a Day Tour

One of the easiest ways to get to Khajuraho and have all your sightseeing admin organised for you is to book a day tour. There is a decent range of Khajuraho tours available on Viator and all of them include hotel/train station pick-up and drop-off so you don’t have to stress about transport at all.

Best Khajuraho Tours

The best Khajuraho temples tour is UNESCO’s Western Temples at Khajuraho – A Walking Tour . It’s one of the few temple tours that actually includes entrance fees and focuses in depth on the history of the monuments.

The best tiger spotting tour from Khajuraho is the Panna Tiger Reserve Tour from Khajuraho which includes admission fees to Panna National Park and options for morning or afternoon departures.

The best combo tour is the Khajuraho Day Tour: Jungle Safari at Panna National Park and Western and Eastern Temple . This is great value for money including national park and temple admission. It’s an early start but you get to make the most of it with sunrise in the jungle.

Where to stay near Khajuraho

There is a surprisingly good range of accommodation near Khajuraho and the Khajuraho temples. In addition to the smaller homestays and family-run hotels common in India, there is a selection of international chain hotels providing a reliable experience (guaranteed hot showers shouldn’t be taken for granted in India!).

Here are my recommendations for places to stay in Khajuraho for every price range:

Best Luxury accommodation in Khajuraho – Radisson Jass Hotel Khajuraho

If you want the full western hotel experience while visiting Khajuraho then the Radisson Hotel is the best option for you. It’s a beautiful property, deserving of its 5 stars.

Best Mid-range accommodation in Khajuraho – Ramada Khajuraho

The Ramada might be the cheaper of the international hotels in Khajuraho but it doesn’t lack at all in amenities. The hotel has a pool, gym and even a small running track. Breakfast is included with most rooms.

Best Budget accommodation in Khajuraho – Hotel Khajuraho Inn

The Inn is on the nicer end of Indian hotels but still at budget prices, you can easily score a room for only $30 a night. Rooms are spacious and a cheap breakfast is available which is helpful given the lack of supermarkets and high prices in local restaurants.

Frequently asked questions about visiting Khajuraho

When is the best time to visit khajuraho.

While the Khajuraho temples are spectacular at any time of year, to really enjoy your time here you’re going to want to try to hit the sweet spot between Indian summer and monsoon season.

The best time of year to visit Khajuraho is between October and December as temperatures are cool enough to be outside without drowning in sweat. Even then, it’s extremely hot in this part of central India so you’ll want to pack hats, sunscreen and maybe a sun umbrella.

How long do you need to see Khajuraho?

If you are only coming to see the temples, then you can easily spend just a day in Khajuraho or do an overnight trip to avoid long travel times.

However, if you’re interested in visiting the nearby national parks for some wildlife spotting then I would recommend spending 2-3 days in Khajuraho so you get more than one opportunity to spot an elusive tiger.

In Short: Exploring Khajuraho

Khajuraho is the kind of place you don’t hear a lot about outside of India but that definitely doesn’t mean it’s not worth a visit. Khajuraho is easy to get to by train or on a day tour and between the karma sutra temples and the tigers, it’s a must-do on any central India holiday.

Happy travelling!

A comprehensive 2-day itinerary for Khajuraho and around

Photo of Shilpi and Mithun

Khajuraho , a UNESCO World Heritage site in the heart of India, is renowned for its stunning ancient temples. These date back to the Chandela dynasty in the 10th century. Discovered in the 19th century by British army captain T.S. Burt, these temples are celebrated for their intricate and sensuous sculptures. Visitors to Khajuraho can embark on a fascinating journey through time by exploring these marvels. Here’s a suggested Khajuraho itinerary for 2 days to make the most of your visit to the ancient temples and nearby places.

Khajuraho itinerary

Morning : Begin your day at the Western Group of Temples, including the iconic Kandariya Mahadeva Temple.

Afternoon : Explore the Eastern Group of Temples, featuring the Parsvanatha Temple and the Ghantai Temple.

Evening : Witness the Sound and Light Show at the Western Group of Temples, providing a captivating narrative of Khajuraho’s history. (Purchase the tickets to the Light and Sound Show separately). Take a stroll in the marketplace and shop for local handicrafts and souvenirs.

Morning : Head to Panna Tiger Reserve, merely 25km from Khajuraho for a wildlife safari. Also visit the famous Pandav Caves & Falls that lies on the same route. This is a naturally formed cave in the core forest area where the Pandavas stayed during their exile.

Afternoon : Post Panna, visit Raneh Waterfall which lies 21km from Khajuraho. This is an exquisite waterfall on the Ken River that forms a 5 kilometres long, and 30 metres deep canyon made of pure crystalline granite in varying colours.

Evening : Visit the Southern Group of Temples, including the Duladeo Temple and the Chaturbhuj Temple. You can also visit the Matangeshvara Temple in the market place premises, close to the Western Group of Temples.

Getting there

Khajuraho-On the road to development

Photo of A comprehensive 2-day itinerary for Khajuraho and around by Shilpi and Mithun

-Khajuraho has a small but functional airport . Check if your city has air route for this town.

-The city is also has a railway station, well connected to major railway stations of India.

-Interstate Volvo buses are not available as of now. The authorities plan to bring Volvo connectivity soon.

The road condition is great. After the highway construction, road connectivity has improved. P.S- We drove for almost 9 hours from Gurugram to Khajuraho following Maps. Since the roads were newly built, the drive was smooth. However, be ready to see herds of cows grouped on the highways which will eventually slow you down.

One Day Khajuraho Sightseeing Trip by Cab

Khajuraho is known around the world for its stunning temples and the depiction of eroticism through sculptures on the temple walls. It is a small town located in the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh. The temples celebrate marvelous architecture along with intimate forms of love and lust in Hindu and Buddhist cultures, making it a unique place for the one day Khajuraho local tour.

The sculptures of erotic love have been inspired by Vatsyayana’s epic, Kamasutra. All the temples were constructed between 950 to 1050 AD. These ancient temples have defeated the otherwise contemporary and orthodox views of sexual love in Indian culture. Khajuraho is a cultural hotspot that houses remnants of the glorious rule of the Chandela dynasty.

Apart from religious significance, the temples are a testament to religious tolerance, free will, and liberal thinking. For this very reason, the entire town of Khajuraho has also been rewarded with the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Originally, there were eighty-five temples but centuries of invasions and plundering have reduced the number to a mere twenty-five. Khajuraho is a great place to visit for history, architecture and art lovers.

  • Must See / Things to Do: There is a Sound and Light Show that is organized by the temple authorities. The entry fees for Indians are Rs 120 and Rs 400 for foreigners. The timings of the show are 6:30 P.M. to 7:25 P.M. and 7:40 P.M. to 8:35 P.M.

First up on the Khajuraho sightseeing tour is the Kandariya Mahadev Temple, which was built between 1025-1050 AD. The temple’s grand architecture, replete with beautiful sculptures of women in various postures on its wall has made the temple the most important tourist destination of Khajuraho.

The shrine of the temple has been engraved with over eight hundred images of women, some of which are as tall as 3 feet in height. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and also houses a shivalinga, along with idols of Vishnu and Brahma in the sanctum sanctorum.

The temple has been constructed using sandstone, and the foundation is made of granite. No mortar was used in the construction of this temple. The stones are held on top of each other with the help of gravity and perfect symmetry. There are 870 sculptures, all of which are one meter tall.

2. Lakshman Temple

One Day Khajuraho Local Sightseeing Trip by Car Lakshman Temple

  • Must See / Things to Do: The trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva that has been depicted on a horizontal beam over the entrance of the temple.
  • Website: Lakshman Temple

The Lakshmana temple is one of the most well preserved and visited temples in the Khajuraho local sightseeing tour. The temple complex rests on a high platform. It is one of the first temples to have been built in Khajuraho by the Chandela dynasty. The Lakshmana Temple is also the largest temple in the Western group of temples in Khajuraho.

The Lakshmana temple has been built to honor Lord Vishnu and Rama’s brother, Lakshman. The unique feature of the temple is the four smaller shrines located at each corner of its rectangular platform. In the Lakshmana Temple, you will also see a sacred image of Vaikuntha-Vishnu that was brought in from Tibet. The walls of the temple have been adorned with over six hundred sculptures of gods and goddesses.

3. Devi Jagadamba Temple

One Day Khajuraho Local Sightseeing Trip by Car Devi Jagadamba Temple

  • Must See / Things to Do: The most famous sculpture in the temple is that of Varaha depicted with a human body and a boar head. He is shown to be emerging from the primeval waters, carrying the earth goddess Bhudevi on his arm.
  • Website: Devi Jagadamba Temple

Devi Jagadamba Temple, also known as Devi Jagadambi Temple, is another famous temple in the Khajuraho local temple tour. Although today the temple prays to one of Durga’s incarnate, Jagadamba, it was originally dedicated to Vishnu. You will understand this when you notice the prominence given to Vishnu at the entryway to the sanctum of the temple.

The temple stands on a raised platform. The square ceiling of its main prayer hall is much simpler than the octagonal ceiling of the Chitragupta temple, which is unlike the other heavily decorated temples. Like all the other temples in Khajuraho, the walls of Devi Jagadamba Temple depict unimaginably elaborate scenes of sexual activity, daily life, and women doing their chores. Photography is not allowed inside the temple, but you can click photos of the outer walls and these sculptures.

4. Vishwanath Temple

One Day Khajuraho Local Sightseeing Trip by Car Vishwanath Temple

  • Must See / Things to Do: The intricate carvings on the walls of the temple must be photographed!
  • Website: Vishwanath Temple

Vishwanath and Nandi Temple in Khajuraho has been constructed in the similar style of Kandariya Mahadeva Temple. This temple too is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a must visit for everyone on the one day Khajuraho sightseeing package.

The magnificent building was built in the year 1002 A.D. by the Chandela dynasty. While you visit the temple, you will also be able to appreciate the immense artistic skills and hard work of every artisan who was involved with the construction of this great temple.

The Vishwanath and Nandi Temple has a huge statue of Shiva’s vehicle, Nandi. Steps lead up to the high terrace of the temple. The northern side of the temple is flanked by lions and the southern sides with elephants. The sculptures around the Vishwanath and Nandi Temple are mostly of women. They show women nursing babies, writing letters, playing music and in erotic poses.

5. Dulhadev Temple

One Day Khajuraho Local Sightseeing Trip by Car Dulhadev Temple

  • Must See / Things to Do: Like any other temple in Khajuraho, Dulhadev Temple also makes for a great subject of photography. Don’t forget to carry your camera!
  • Website: Dulhadev Temple

Situated on the banks of the Kurau Nala in Khajuraho is the next spot on the one day Khajuraho private sightseeing package, the Dulhadev or Dulhadeo Hindu Temple. The temple belongs to the southern group of Khajuraho temples and is visited in hundreds by tourists. Built in 1130, the temple is a glorious reminder of Chandela art and architecture. The temple is five chambered, comparatively small and has a closed hall.

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the interiors of the temple have been engraved with images of Shiva and his wife, Parvati. The intricate carvings on the walls of the temple display the stupendous craftsmanship of the architects and the laborers. The roof of the temple displays stone carvings of Apsaras, nymphs and other mythical creatures.

The closed halls of the temple have a beautiful Shivalinga. The walls outside the temple show wizards and their consorts flying around. Recreational activities such as swords fighting, playing musical instruments and dance performances have also found a spot on these walls.

6. Lunch at Local Restaurants

One Day Khajuraho Local Sightseeing Trip by Car Lunch

  • Must See / Things to Do: The best time to experience the grandeur of Siddhivinayak Temple is at Vinayaki Chaturthi, Sankashti Chaturthi, Maghi Shree Ganesh Jayanti and Bhadrapad Shree Ganesh Chaturthi. Special prayer services are held during these festivals.

The specialties of Khajuraho cuisine include korma, kebabs, biryani, jalebis, and barfis. You must also try Bafla which is basically whole wheat in ghee. This dish is savored along with laddoos. Famous drinks of Khajuraho are lassi and sugarcane juice. Other than local flavors, restaurants also serve Chinese, South Indian, Rajasthani, and Mughlai cuisines.

You should definitely book the one day Khajuraho local sightseeing tour if you have a special interest in art, architecture, and history. The temples of Khajuraho are also a refreshing break from the otherwise ritual-dependent and modest temples across India!

Stray Kids Will Embark on 40-City Tour, Tommy Hilfiger Reveals at Met Gala 2024

khajuraho city tour

By P. Claire Dodson

Stray Kids at Met Gala 2024

Stray Kids are going on a big 2024 tour, a fact we just learned from Tommy Hilfiger himself at Met Gala 2024 .

“They are as modern as you can get, modern prep and they're global superstars,” Hilfiger said about the eight-member K-pop group. “They're embarking on a 40-city tour…” To which Stays around the world said, “Uhhh what??”

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Listen, it would make sense: Stray Kids have a big 2024 ahead, including playing Lollapalooza in August and BST Hyde Park in London in July. They also have a new single, “Lose My Breath,” with Charlie Puth out May 10. Their Maniac tour wrapped a little over a year ago after 42 dates around the world, and we're definitely ready to see them perform live again. This year marks Stray Kids's sixth anniversary as a group.

Tommy Hilfiger's little spoiler was quite the sneak peek, and we have to hope for more official announcements on the way soon. In the meantime, you can enjoy Stray Kids's coat-to-suit outfit reveal to your heart's content.

“It's our first time , stoked to be here,” leader Bang Chan said on the Met Gala carpet. “I personally really like everyone's fits," he added, referring to the Kids' looks. Happy first Met Gala, Stray Kids!

Review: The Big Bus Tour in New York City

I absolutely loved the Big Bus Tour in New York City. It’s the best way to go sightseeing in an open-top, hop-on hop-off, top-rated tour and explore the best New York attractions !

If this is your first-time visiting New York and you want to see all the top landmarks, this double-decker tour bus will take you there.

The Big Bus Tour in New York

You may be wondering if a hop-on hop-off bus is worth it. Absolutely, yes!

If you consider the time and money spent on transportation costs, waiting for buses, navigating the subway (which can be confusing for visitors), and getting from one point of interest to another, it is worth every dollar!

I had a great visit to New York City on Big Bus Tour. My goal was to show the city to some friends from Italy who were visiting the US for the first time.

Since we only had about two days to spend together, the hop-on hop-off was undoubtedly the best decision.

From our experience, we’ll answer commonly asked questions about the Hop-on Hop-off bus while visiting New York City.

Google Reviews

Why take the big bus tour in new york.

While seeing New York from the open-top deck of the double-decker bus, the city unfolded block by block with panoramic views from every angle.

As we traveled through the streets, the sights were unobstructed and new visual backdrops were revealed.

The towering skyscrapers and colorful billboards filled the air with excitement and as the cityscape continued to change, it gave a grand feeling to the experience.

I especially enjoyed being able to relax from the upper deck of the bus while taking in the energy of city scenes.

Because I also live in a large city, the rhythm felt familiar from the elevated vantage point .

Car horns were honking, crowds traversed through the streets and there was an endless hum of activity.

Best of all, the tour gave me the chance to interact with other travelers who were seeing New York while waiting for the tour to began.

We struck up conversations and exchanged stories, insights, and recommendations during our stay in New York.

How Much is the Big Bus Tour in New York

The regular price of an adult and child ticket is $60.00 and $50.00, respectively. However, you can use the link below for discounted fares.

Get discounts for the Big Bus Tour NYC  here .

How Long is the Big Bus Tour in New York

The round-trip New York City Big Bus Tour takes about two hours from start to finish.

The bus is the perfect solution for visitors worldwide because they offer pre-recorded audio narratives and translations in five languages — French, German, Spanish, Italian, and English.

Are There Toilets on the Big Bus

No. Unlike charter buses, you won’t travel long between stops. So the best thing to do is exit at a stop, find a public restroom, see an attraction, if desired, and then catch the next bus.

If you are not sure where to find one, ask a Big Bus guide on the street. The driver may also have some suggestions.

Charter buses come equipped with a bathroom because travel is expected to be for a much longer period.

How Does the Big Bus Tour Work in New York City

The tour offers three options for purchase — 1-day, 2-day, and 3-day.

When you decide the number of days of your tour and purchase your ticket, the clock starts when your ticket is scanned while boarding the bus for the first time.

The ticket is good for 24, 48, or 72 hours. So, if you have a 1-day ticket and board the bus at 11:00 AM on Monday, it can still be used until 11:00 AM on Tuesday.

We found a ton of touring options for sightseeing in New York.

Aside from the extended period, the 2 and 3-day tickets also offer discounted bike rentals.

The buses run every 20 minutes on average. However, the first stop at the M&M store can be a long wait during peak season.

You can exit or board at any of the designated stops as much as you want.

The only exclusion is the one-loop tour Night Tour which is a panoramic non-stop tour.

Where to Catch the Big Bus Tour in New York City

During the tour, the buses only stop at designated stops.

Your ticket is good for as long as the buses operate during the day and it may be used on both the red and blue routes.

When you board, make sure you get a hop-on hop-off New York bus route map!

Big Bus NYC Red Route

The red route sightseeing tour covers lower Manhattan and you’ll see many landmarks like St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Wall Street, the Chrysler Building, and General Grant’s Tomb.

You can catch a tour at any one of the following bus stops and you can get your tickets in advance of boarding.

1 – M&M’s World – 7th Ave & W 48th St (Outside M&M World & Majestic Deli)

2 – Times Square East – W 42nd St & Broadway (at Knickerbocker Hotel)

3 – Empire State Building / Korea Town – 5th Ave & W 32nd St (at CVS Pharmacy)

4 – Flatiron District – 5th Ave & W 23rd St (at Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop)

5 – SoHo – Broadway and Spring Street (at Nike Store)

6 – Chinatown / Little Italy – 100 Lafayette Street (near the corner at Walker St)

7 – Brooklyn Bridge – Park Row & Beekman St (across from 33 Park Row)

8 – Wall Street / Charging Bull – Broadway & Wall St (Southwest corner near Rector St)

9 – Statue of Liberty / Battery Park – State St and Bridge St (at Subway Entrance)

10 – Circle Line Sightseeing – 12th Ave & 40th St (opposite Pier 81)

11 – Times Square North – 7th Ave & W 50th St (at Majestic Deli)

Big Bus NYC Blue Route

The blue route covers upper Manhattan, and half of the ride is mostly views of Central Park. You can switch to the blue route at red stop #2.

We recommend changing routes at stop #11 (the Majestic Deli) where you can take a break and have a nice lunch.

12 – The Metropolitan Museum of Art – 5th Ave & E 83rd St (near 83rd St)

13 – Central Park Zoo – 5th Ave & E 66th St (opposite 845 5th Ave)

14 – Columbus Circle – Central Park & Columbus Circle (SW corner of Central Park)

Tips and Things to Know Before You Go

The bus has two levels, the upper level offers panoramic views of the city but be careful of overhanging traffic lights and trees. Don’t stand while the bus is in motion.

  • After you find a seat, check the audio to confirm it is working.
  • Snacks are allowed. Bring a frozen bottle of water and protein bites to keep you energized.
  • When on the upper deck, cover up with sunscreen to protect your skin on hot sunny days.
  • If you are a family of 3 or more, take seats across from one another so you’ll have views and photos from both sides of the bus.

Tourists were lined up at stop #1 at least an hour before departure and the line extended the entire block and rounded the corner.

We decided to see other points of interest and returned around 11:00 AM.

The wait to board the bus was about 20 minutes. It was a relaxing ride and there we saw so much!

By the time we reached stop #9, we were pumped and ready to exit the bus so that we could explore the city! And you probably will be too.

Here’s the secret sauce that really made the experience memorable. Exit at stop #9 and take a FREE ferry to Staten Island.

To see the Statue of Liberty, stand on the left side of the boat. When returning, stand on the right side.

Final Thoughts About the Big Bus Tour in New York City

Overall, the tour was a pleasant way to see New York city and when you are on the upper deck, you hardly notice the traffic.

Some other advantages of seeing the city by bus include:

  • Avoiding parking hassles. I mean, who actually drives in New York?!
  • Photo opportunities. With the open-top or large windows, you have excellent photo opportunities as you pass by iconic landmarks and cityscapes.
  • Comprehensive sightseeing of major landmarks and attractions within two hours.
  • You can get local recommendations from the guides who operate the bus.

I usually opt for a hop-on hop-off bus when I am short on time or to get my bearings in the city before deciding what to do.

Either way, when you take the tour bus, it doesn’t appear impossible to take a bite out of the Big Apple.

Happy Travels!

Will travis kelce attend taylor swift's eras tour dates in stockholm, share this article.

khajuraho city tour

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift continue to spend so much time together despite their busy schedules.

They were in Singapore together for her last Eras Tour stops, they went on vacation together in the Bahamas, they were snapped at various places together and they attended Patrick Mahomes’ charity event . Then, Kelce showed up to her 87th Eras Tour show in Paris

Now, Swift continues her international leg of the Eras Tour, so you might wonder: given that Travis has some time off, will he be in Stockholm for three days to see her perform again?

We don’t know officially. But they were reportedly spotted in Lake Como , Italy last week, so maybe he’s traveling with her? We’ll see!

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Nelly Korda won a back nine showdown with Hannah Green of Australia with a par on the 18th hole to capture the Mizuho Americas Open by a stroke Sunday for her sixth win in seven starts on the LPGA Tour this year.

The victory made the 25-year-old American the first player since Inbee Park (2013) to record six wins in a single season.

“Oh, my gosh, six," Korda said. "I can’t even really gather myself right now with that, the head to head that Hannah and I had pretty much all day. Wasn’t my best stuff out there today, but fought really hard on the back nine.

"It was just amazing to share the stage with Hannah.”

Korda also bounced back from seeing her record-tying five-tournament winning streak snapped last week by Rose Zhang at the Cognizant Founders Cup. Zhang withdrew Thursday after three holes with an intestinal issue.

After playing the front nine in 2-over, Korda matched birdies with Green on the 10th, 13th and 15th holes at scenic Liberty National to stay tied with Green, whose two wins this year made her the only other multiple winner on tour this year.

Korda, the third-round leader by two shots, shot a final-round 71 and finished at 14-under 274. Green had a 70 and finished at 275.

After Korda put her drive in the fairway on the the par-4, No. 18, Green pulled her drive into the left rough. Her second to the green was short and left and still in the rough. After Korda hit her approach to 15 feet from the hole, Green's chip over a bunker landed 10 feet in front of the hole and then rolled back a little.

Korda putted to tap-in range and finished out, while Green's putt to extend the tournament to a playoff never touched the hole.

Korda then raised her hands and accepted the cheers from the crowd in this event held with a view of the New York City skyline and Statue of Liberty in the background.

Jennifer Kupcho, who lost this event in a playoff with Zhang last year, finished tied for third with rookie Gabriela Ruffels of Australia and Ariya Jutanugarn and Chanettee Wannasaen, both of Thailand.

Playing hours before the leaders teed off, Wannasaen had the best round of the day with a 7-under 65. Jutanugarn had a 70, Kupcho shot 71 and Ruffels had a 72 in finishing third for the second straight week.

After being tied for the lead by Ayaka Furue of Japan and Kupcho with nine holes to play, Korda and Green turned the tournament into a two-player race with their matching birdies to open a four-shot lead over the rest of the field. When one hit it close, the other followed.

Furue finished in a large group at 9-under.

The win was the 14th for Korda and she joined a list of players who have won six times in a year since 1980: Betsy King (1989), Annika Sorenstam (1997, 2003), Karrie Webb (1999, 2000), Lorena Ochoa (2006, 2008), Park, Beth Daniel (1990) and Yani Tseng (2011).

Korda earned $450,000, bringing her career earnings to $11,880,981 and her season earnings to $2,943,708.

Fans divided over age restriction in Stockholm for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour

khajuraho city tour

STOCKHOLM — Welcome to "Swiftholm!"

The capital city of Sweden changed its name temporarily to honor Taylor Swift and her massively successful Eras Tour . Swift was set to perform three nights in Friends Arena.

"We are from a very small town of 400 in central Illinois," says Jennifer Crane of Paxton. She held up a copy of her hometown newspaper, the "Ford County Chronicle," and took a photo in front of the arena with her sister, niece and friend from Chicago. "We're taking a photo because we'll be the front page."

Crane says the Swedish show was much cheaper than getting a nosebleed ticket in Indianapolis, New Orleans or Miami, the three locations Swift will bring the Eras Tour in America this fall.

The stadium had a few rules Americans adapted to: a 13-year-old age restriction and a no-bag policy.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

"Normally, we do clear bags at all events in America, so we had to get creative," Crane says. "Phones on straps, pockets on pants. So many pockets. Lipstick in our pockets. But we're fine."

No bags are allowed inside the arena for security reasons, including transparent bags, fanny packs, purses, backpacks, etc. The only exception is "for medical reasons and for children's diaper bags," according to the Friends Arena stadium website.

"I've been avoiding spoilers," says Andy Lindsey waiting in line with a vibrant, multi-colored, "Karma"-esque coat. "I really want to see 'The Tortured Poets Department' set since that's the newest stuff."

Lindsey traveled from Champaign, Illinois. The audience of hundreds waiting for the doors to open for VIP did not include kids under 13 years old due to a Swedish restriction.

"In my opinion, some of the music has subject matter and language that might be inappropriate for someone under the age of 13," says Lindsey. "It's a long show. We've already been in line for two hours, and I think young kids could get unruly, so I think the age restriction is probably appropriate."

About 20 people behind Lindsey was Raina Santucci.

"I'm so excited to see the "Tortured Poets Department" new set," Santucci says. "Oh my gosh, I'm excited to see her on the Roomba."

The joke is in reference to Swift singing "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" from a levitating platform. TikTok has turned the performance into hilarious Roomba jokes .

Santucci thought the age restriction was a little harsh.

"I have a 10-year-old and a 6-year-old at home, and I know the 6-year-old could not hang," she says, "but the 10-year-old really wants to see Taylor Swift. So I'm torn on it."

Resale tickets on Stubhub.com showed floor seats going for for a shocking $100-$170, and stadium seats being sold as low as $60. Resale for the three American shows are anywhere from four to five digits to see the show.

Swift will perform three nights in Sweden, before heading to Lisbon, Portugal.
