Do’s and Don’t’s of Instagram Names for Travel
As you seek to become an influencer and brainstorm awesome travel Instagram name ideas, here are some do’s and don’ts to keep in mind:
Do’s:
- Be unique and memorable: Choose a name that stands out and is easy to remember.
- Reflect your niche: Make sure your Instagram name reflects your focus on travel and aligns with your desired niche or audience.
- Be descriptive or creative: Consider using words or phrases that evoke a sense of adventure, wanderlust, or your specific travel style.
- Keep it concise: Shorter names are generally easier to remember and type, so aim for brevity.
- Consider your personal brand: Think about how the name represents your personality, values, and the type of content you plan to share.
- Research for availability: Check if the chosen name is available as an Instagram handle to ensure consistency across all platforms.
- Test it out: Share the name with a few friends or fellow travelers to get their feedback before finalizing it.
Don’ts:
- Don’t limit your future content: Avoid choosing a name that is too specific or restricts your content potential if you plan to diversify your travel experiences in the future.
- Avoid using numbers or special characters: They can make your name harder to remember and may give the impression of spam or unprofessionalism.
- Don’t infringe on trademarks: Research if the name you want to use infringes on any existing trademarks or copyrights to avoid legal issues.
- Steer clear of offensive or controversial terms: Ensure your chosen name does not contain any offensive or controversial language that may alienate potential followers or brands.
- Avoid trends that may become outdated quickly: While it’s good to be trendy, choosing a name based solely on a current fad may limit its longevity.
Your Instagram name is a crucial part of your personal brand, so take your time to choose a name that truly reflects your travel passion and aligns with your goals as an influencer.
Should I include my own name in the Instagram handle?
Including your own name can add a personal touch and help with branding, but it’s not necessary. It depends on your preference and the direction you want to take with your influencer persona.
How important is it to have keywords related to travel in the Instagram name?
Having keywords related to travel in your Instagram name can help potential followers understand your niche and attract the right audience. It can make your account more discoverable and memorable.
Should I use my niche or specific location in the Instagram handle?
Including your niche or specific location in the Instagram handle can help define your target audience and make it clear what type of content you’ll be sharing. However, it’s not mandatory, especially if you want to keep your options open for broader travel experiences.
Can I change my Instagram handle later if I want to rebrand?
Yes, you can change your Instagram handle later, but it’s important to note that changing it frequently may confuse your existing followers. It’s best to choose a name you can stick with for the long term, but if rebranding becomes necessary, you can update it.
Is it better to have a shorter Instagram handle or a longer, more descriptive one?
Generally, shorter Instagram handles are easier to remember and type, so they can be advantageous. However, a longer, more descriptive handle can provide more clarity about your niche and content. Find a balance between being concise and informative.
Should I consider the availability of the corresponding domain name and social media handles?
It’s a good idea to check the availability of the corresponding domain name and social media handles for consistency across platforms. However, it’s not mandatory as long as you can secure your preferred Instagram handle if that is going to be your focus.
Can I use special characters or numbers in my Instagram handle?
While Instagram allows some special characters and numbers in handles, it’s generally recommended to avoid them as they can make your handle harder to remember and type. Stick to letters and, if possible, keep it simple.
Remember, these are just general guidelines, and the answers may vary based on individual preferences and specific circumstances. Ultimately, choose an Instagram name that resonates with you and reflects your travel aspirations as an influencer

2. Sonder (v.)
Origin: Unknown
Definition: The realisation that each passerby is living a life as complex as your own.
The full definition, taken from The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows reads:
[Sonder is] the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries, and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.
I often feel this way when I pass groups of strangers, speaking a language that is completely foreign to me, and realise just how incredibly big the world is. We all have a life that is full of different connections, memories and possibilities. That’s sonder.
The internet suggests this may not be a real word, either way, the concept is beautiful.

Amazing list! One word I’d add is the Dutch word “gezellig” or “gezelligheid” – similarly to hygge, it describes a feeling of warmth/comfort/coziness/quaintness in certain settings or around certain people.
Thank you so much for sharing this Heba. So interesting to learn that Dutch has a similar word 🙂
This is such a fun article! Love these words and phrases!
Glad to hear it! Thank you so much, Eric 🙂
So many of these describe me or my feelings about seeing the world. But, if I had to pick one, the one that best describes how I choose my destinations would be “selcouth”. I so want to be a stranger in a strange land. To have my belief that there is no such thing as “normal” affirmed again and again and over again.
What a beautiful word. Thanks for sharing, Janet 🙂
Thanks Michele what a wonderful list of inspirational words. It nearly made me cry as I realised that I suffer from acute eleutheromania! ha
Thanks Juliana 🙂 I’m so glad you enjoyed this list. Eleutheromania? I know how you feel hehe

Tips to Choose a Catchy and Creative Travel Group Name
Whether you’re planning a trip with your friends or starting a travel company, choosing the right name for your group is crucial. A catchy and creative travel group name not only sets you apart from others but also helps in creating a strong bond within the group. It’s like having an identity that everyone can relate to.
Here are some tips to help you choose a perfect travel group name that will make your adventures even more memorable:
Know Your Purpose
Before you start brainstorming ideas for your travel group name, it’s essential to understand the purpose behind it. Are you and your friends planning a fun vacation? Or is it a serious business trip? The type of trip and the people involved in it will play a significant role in deciding the right name for your group. This will also help you determine the tone and style of your name.
Be Creative
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to naming your travel group. You can take inspiration from inside jokes, and popular travel destinations, or even come up with a unique word or phrase that represents your group. Make sure to keep it short and easily memorable.
Consider Your Audience
If you’re planning a trip with your friends, then your travel group name can be as funny or quirky as you want. However, if you’re starting a travel company, you need to consider the audience and brand image before finalizing a name. A name that might seem funny to your friends might not be appropriate for a business.
Avoid Common Names
It’s always good to avoid using common or overused names for your travel group. Not only do they lack originality, but they also make it difficult for people to remember your group. Do some research and make sure the name you choose is unique and not used by any other travel groups.
Use Travel-Related Terms
Incorporating travel-related terms in your group name is a great way to give it a unique and relevant touch. It can be a play on popular travel phrases or even the name of your favorite destination. This will also make it easier for people to understand what your group is all about.
Get Feedback
Once you have some potential names, ask for feedback from your group members or friends. They might have some great ideas or can help you narrow down the choices. It’s also a good idea to check if the name is easily pronounceable and doesn’t have any negative connotations.
Be Timeless
While it may be tempting to use current trends or references in your travel group name, remember that trends come and go. Choose a name that will stand the test of time and won’t sound outdated in a few years.
Finalize Your Name
After considering all these factors, it’s time to finalize your travel group name. Make sure everyone in the group is happy with the chosen name and it accurately represents your group’s personality and purpose.
Choosing a travel group name is all about having fun, creativity, and unity. It’s an opportunity to showcase your group’s unique identity and create memories that will last a lifetime. Follow these tips, be creative, and have fun coming up with the perfect name for your travel group or team. Happy travels!

Let these travel agency name ideas help spark your creativity
We’ve put together some inspiring and catchy name ideas from our Travel Agency Name Generator to help you along your journey.
What makes a good travel agency name?
A good travel agency name should be memorable, unique and reflect the personality and expertise you bring as a travel agent. To find a name that's perfect for you, start by thinking about the vibe you want to create. For example, do you want your agency to be known for its luxurious, high-end travel experiences or its budget-friendly, accessible vacations? It's also a good idea to pick a travel agency name that isn't too specific. Instead of naming your tour company "Saturday Escapes," you could go for "Escape Expert" or “Mr. Getaway Guide” to give you flexibility around your offerings. Keeping the right adjectives in mind can help create the feeling you want travelers to have when they see your travel agency name. Remember, your agency name is a huge part of your brand identity, so make sure it represents your personality, resonates with your target clients and leaves a lasting impression.
How to come up with your travel agency name
Use the Business Name Generator to come up with creative name ideas. Then, pick the name that’s right for your agency by keeping these best practices in mind.
Decide on your key message
Choosing the right keywords to describe your travel agency on websites and in articles can make it easier for potential clients to find you online and help them decide if your services are what they’re looking for.
Get to know your target audience
Take time to understand how potential clients speak about agencies similar to yours. Make sure the name you choose fits their language and that the content you’re putting out speaks to their needs.
Scope out the competition
See what your competitors are doing in order to stand out in the crowd. The name you come up with should be different, bold and unforgettable. Be sure to run a thorough search to make sure the name you want isn’t already taken.
Plan for the future
If you plan on going global, check that the name you choose has positive connotations in different languages. Mapping out marketing campaigns in advance can also help you decide if the name will stay relevant in the future.
Get feedback on your new name
Once you’ve chosen a name that you like, run it past potential clients or people in your industry to see what they think. Take note of their comments and reactions, and keep in mind any biases they may have.
Brand your agency with a logo
Build a brand that will stay at the forefront of your clients’ minds with a memorable logo and strong website . Creating mockups of your logo is a great way to test if your new name will look good online and in print.

How do I come up with a travel agency name?
To create a travel agency name, consider the agency's specialization, target audience and unique selling points. Incorporate travel-related words, such as "voyage," "explore," or "adventure," and plug them into your Travel Agency Name Generator. Then, experiment with combinations to craft a name that reflects your agency's personality and services.
What are good names for a travel agency?
Good travel agency names often evoke a sense of wanderlust and adventure. Examples include "Wanderlust Voyages," "Global Explorers Travel," or "Dream Destinations Tours." Choose a name that resonates with your agency's vision and the desires of your clientele. A well-chosen name can convey your agency's commitment to memorable journeys.
How can I make my travel agency unique?
To make your travel agency stand out, focus on offering exceptional customer service, personalized travel experiences and exclusive packages to exotic destinations. Craft a brand identity that reflects your agency's commitment to adventure and exploration. Differentiating your agency with exclusive offerings can set you apart in a competitive market.
What are the best words related to travel?
Some of the best words related to travel include "journey," "expedition," "roam," "voyage," "wander," "adventure," "trek," and "excursion." These words evoke the spirit of travel and can be incorporated into your agency's name or marketing materials. Using these words creatively in your name and other marketing language can help potential clients envision their own journeys.
How do I know if my travel agency name is taken?
The fastest way would be to run a Google search. You can also check the availability of the domain you want using the Wix Domain Name Search tool, and look up whether the name is a registered trademark in the USA or internationally by using the USPTO and WIPO databases. Choosing an existing name may result in lawsuits, so we definitely don’t recommend it.
How long should a travel agency name be?
A travel agency’s name can vary in length, but it should be catchy and speak a similar language to your audience. Your clients should know instantly that your business is what they’re looking for, and what kind of services you offer.
Just make sure it’s not too long—you want it to stay in your clients’ minds so they can remember it and share it with their friends.
How do I create a catchy and unique beauty business name?
Think about what your business is about, what services you offer, and what you want people to feel and think when they see your name. Boil it down to two strong keywords that are the most relevant to your company, and insert them into the Travel Agency Name Generator.
Find a name that connects with you the most, and claim a domain for it to solidify your brand online. Check out our free business tools for more ways to build your brand and run your business.
What is the best top-level domain for a travel agency website?
There are several different top-level domains that you can use for your travel agency site, like .com, .net, .org, .co or a country code. Depending on what you’re aiming to achieve and the audience you’re planning to target, your domain will change.
Keep in mind that .com and .net are the most common top-level domains, so make sure that your chosen name is not already taken. With so many companies existing online, it can be hard to find an available domain for your new business. Using a different domain extension (i.e. .shop, .store, .online) can help you find what you’re looking for.

50 Awesome Travel Blog Name Ideas
50 77 Awesome Travel Blog Name Ideas
When I was getting ready to launch my travel blog , I had a really tough time picking a name for the blog. In reality, the name of a travel blog isn’t as important as you might think. It isn’t as important as quality writing, a well-designed site, a good brand, and a lot of content. However, your name is still a big piece of the puzzle, and should be something you like and can live with. To come up with my blog’s name, I did an exercise to come up with as many awesome travel blog names as possible and then slowly narrowed it down to my current name. I thought I would share this list with any future travel bloggers who are currently brainstorming for a name. Not all of these were from my original list, as I have added more since, so go ahead and use this list as a starting point for your own brainstorming. UPDATE: Feel free to use any of these names for your own travel blog. People have been emailing me a lot asking if they can use a name on the list. You don’t need my permission to use any of these names since I don’t own any of them. I also don’t own any of the domain names, so if it’s already taken there isn’t anything I can do. Good luck in your search!
1. Out of the Office – For a former cubicle worker who wants to quit and to put up an indefinite email out of office notification.

Tips for Naming Your Travel Business
Brainstorm a list of keywords related to your business..
Jotting down words that come to mind when you think of your business can help narrow down potential name ideas. If you are based in a certain area or specialize in a certain type of travel, consider including local words or phrases to make your name more specific.
Keep it simple.
When selecting a name for your business, keep it short and sweet. Opt for something that is accessible to all audiences, so you don’t needlessly lose potential customers due to difficulty in pronouncing or spelling the name!
That said, don’t forget to be creative! Having an unforgettable name allows you to make a lasting impression on potential customers, giving you an edge in a competitive industry.
Consider your target audience.
Your chosen name should accurately reflect your target audience, whether that is luxury travelers or budget-conscious backpackers. This will help potential customers identify your company as the perfect fit for their needs.
Make Sure the Domain is Available
Before you settle on a name, make sure the domain is available. This will save time and energy when it comes to setting up your website and other online presences. In addition, you can also secure social media handles with your chosen name before someone else does!
Choose Your Domain!
Once you’ve settled on a name for your travel business, it’s time to choose the perfect domain. This is the web address that customers and potential clients will use to find your website, so an exact match of your selected business name is ideal.

How to Name Your Travel Group Names
A group name can help define the culture of your community in just one word. This post will give you a quick guide to choose the perfect group name.
Start by Defining What Your Community Is About
The first thing you have to decide is what you want your group to accomplish. Are you looking to meet new friends? Do you want to share knowledge? Maybe you want to form a team. Whatever it is, you have to figure out what type of experience you’re trying to offer before choosing a group name.
Here are some examples:
- Pads Vacation
- StayinMotion

- Be Boundless
- Travel Micro
- Joker Destination
- Ultima Destination
- Dream Holiday Makers
- Amigo Getaways
- Travel Touch
- Caring Crossings
- Luxe Life Travel
- Vacation Climate
- Turnkey Trips
Consider the Culture’s Language
Once you know what you’re offering, then you’ll be able to determine what kind of language you want your community members to speak. Do they want to talk about food? Sports? Politics? Technology? All of those topics fit into different cultures. If you want to attract members from different communities, you have to pick a name that fits.

You Can Always Change It Up Later
If you come up with a bunch of ideas and none of them seem to work, there’s no harm in changing the name later. Just be sure to let everyone know so they don’t get confused.

This Is What Happens If You Book Your Plane Ticket Under Your Nickname
Hello, I’m Libby. Libby is on my business cards, email address, every social media account I manage and all of my bylines. But my passport says Elizabeth. And since I’m an idiot on occasion, I booked an international flight under Libby.
This is what happens if you do that.
If you’re me, you don’t notice at first. It wasn’t until my turn in line at the London Heathrow Airport transfer desk, boarding pass in hand, that I realized I might not be allowed onto my flight back home. Some airlines allow for name changes (at a cost, of course); some make you buy an entirely new ticket.
My passport and boarding pass were flagged at the beginning of my trip as I attempted to take advantage of a complimentary bag check on my way from London to Budapest. I was thrilled at the prospect of dropping my heavy pack and carrying nothing until landing. But I was blindsided when the friendly, patient airline representative gently asked me whether I realized my ticket read Libby while my passport did not. My stomach immediately gripped into a boulder-sized knot and my jaw tightened in panic.
A post shared by Libby Ryan (@libbylr) on Jul 31, 2015 at 11:03am PDT
“It doesn’t really matter when you’re flying somewhere like Budapest,” she told me. “But you might have trouble getting back into the U.S.”
The United States has some of the most stringent border control rules of any country, with signs posted in airports around the world warning travelers to expect delays going through American customs or additional screenings before boarding a flight to the States. Even American citizens have been detained in airports for hours, made worse by the Trump administration’s travel ban blocking travelers from eight countries coming to the U.S.
(There’s a lesson somewhere in here about how intense American TSA is upon entering the country , especially for people of color , but how little they care about the twenty-something white girl leaving it. My legal I.D. and ticket also did not match on my flight out of New York.)
A post shared by Libby Ryan (@libbylr) on Jun 18, 2017 at 12:46pm PDT
My helpful new friend handed me a card with a customer service number. Call so-and-so, she told me. But she added, “I’m not sure how much it will cost.”
In July, Travel and Leisure reported that a simple name mixup cost one traveler $1,000. It was an easy mistake: The ticket swapped first and middle names. But because the ticket was booked through a travel agency, it had to be completely canceled and rebooked. We all know how international flight prices creep up as you get closer and closer to your departure date; you do not want to be stuck buying a day-of, long-haul ticket.
A recent story shared by The Points Guy shared a cautionary tale of travelers losing tens of thousands of airline rewards points for the same reason. Their ticket and passports didn’t match precisely. Honeymooners also frequently face this issue. If you choose to take your spouse’s last name, begin the legal process to change your name long before you plan to leave the country (getting a new passport alone takes four to six weeks). It seems super romantic to have tickets under your new shared surname until you’re stopped at passport control. Your passport must match the ticket.
A post shared by Libby Ryan (@libbylr) on Aug 19, 2017 at 9:07am PDT
So after some fervent online research from my phone in the airport and later on the shared desktop computer at my hostel, I was obsessively checking my bank account. A last-minute flight from London to New York would throw my budget into chaos for months. Even some of the fees were mighty inconvenient.
RyanAir charges travelers $130 to change names online and $190 at the airport. Norwegian Air name changes cost $70 for short flights and $130 for across-the-ocean trips, plus a $25 service fee if you do so by phone or in the airport. On an American Airlines flight , you could pay anywhere from $50 to $700 depending on your route and type of ticket. As a general rule, the earlier you can catch the mistake, the less you’ll pay. (Many airlines also have a 24-hour cancellation period after booking. Carefully check all your info during this time and you can cancel and rebook without penalty.)
Or if you appear very forlorn and have some good travel karma on your side, you might be able to make it happen for free.
A post shared by Libby Ryan (@libbylr) on Sep 7, 2017 at 5:36pm PDT
With my vacation over, I returned to the customer service desk in London and told the man at the desk about my predicament. He was about my dad’s age and clearly had no idea what to do with me. He summoned his manager and I crossed my fingers. When the manager appeared, I relaxed just a tad as the other man filled him in.
“I bet only your mum calls you Elizabeth,” the ginger-bearded security manager joked. He was either completely unconcerned about my predicament or displaying some of that dry British humor I’d always heard so much about. “She probably only calls you Elizabeth when she’s mad at you.”
I smiled up at him — you’re just so funny and clever and charming, Mr. TSA Man — and handed him every piece of identification I had on me: passport, driver’s license, credit card, debit card, college student I.D. and library card. My name is Elizabeth — see the proof?
A post shared by Libby Ryan (@libbylr) on Jul 7, 2015 at 10:35am PDT
Always travel with multiple documents saying you are who you say you are, explorer friends. You never know what could go wrong, what could be lost or stolen, or what extra questions you might be asked at a border .
“I have stuff that says Libby, too, if that would help show that I’m both,” I offered, so eager to provide any and all evidence that would get me home. But he told me to keep the business cards to myself so he could report a nice, clean record of only Elizabeth documents.
He scrawled an unreadable note on my boarding pass and that was that. I thanked them both, gushing, beaming. They were my heroes of the day.
“You’re American. We can’t really keep you here,” the airline rep said, popping my burgeoning bubble of pride in my flirting skills. I could no longer say I’d sweet-talked my way onto a plane, super-spy style. I’d just weaseled my way out of a fine . But hey, I’d still take it (with a side note in the form of a giant privilege check).
A post shared by Libby Ryan (@libbylr) on May 8, 2017 at 4:15am PDT
Eight hours later, back in NYC, I smoothed the slightly crumpled LDR to JFK boarding pass and stuck it in my travel journal. My only (hopefully) airplane ticket that will ever say “Libby Ryan” is now its own type of treasured souvenir.

'Conan O'Brien Must Go' is side-splitting evidence of life beyond late night TV
Eric Deggans
Conan O'Brien dresses as a Viking in Norway. Conaco/Max hide caption
Conan O'Brien dresses as a Viking in Norway.
To be honest, when I first heard Conan O'Brien was ending his TV talk show in 2021, I assumed news that he might turn to variety shows and online programs to continue his career was some combination of face-saving and wishful thinking.
But after watching the four episodes of his new Max series Conan O'Brien Must Go , it's now obvious — even to a thickheaded critic like me — that leaving late night TV really was liberating for O'Brien. He's leveraged his unique sensibility into several different podcasts, a deal with Sirius XM , specials featuring other stand-up comics and now this travel series for Max — which resembles jokey specials he did for cable channel TBS back in the day.
And as the late night TV genre crumbles under sagging viewership and the decline of traditional media, O'Brien's renaissance also provides an example for the future — where fertile comedy minds and talented performers can spread their work over a much larger canvas.
Pop Culture Happy Hour
Is conan o'brien the best 'hot ones' guest ever discuss., learning a lesson from 'hot ones'.
O'Brien already made a splash recently with his brilliantly maniacal appearance on the interview-while-eating-hot-wings show Hot Ones , slobbering over hot sauces while claiming, as he was checked over by a fake doctor, that "I'm fine! I'm perfectly f*****g fine!"
This is the place where O'Brien shines — he's called it "this strange phantom intersection between smart and stupid" — and it's on full, freakish, super silly display in every episode of Conan O'Brien Must Go .
The conceit of the show is pretty simple. O'Brien heads overseas to visit average folks in Norway, Argentina, Thailand and Ireland who had once Zoomed in to speak with him on the podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Fan . Sometimes the visits seem like a surprise — he catches one aspiring Norwegian rapper in shorts and Crocs after popping up on his doorstep — and others seem a bit more planned, including his visit to a radio show with about four listeners in Buenos Aires.
Each episode begins with a solemn monologue which sounds like it is delivered by the film world's most eccentric voice, German filmmaker and actor Werner Herzog (he's not credited in the show and when asked, a publicist at Max shared a quote from O'Brien: "I can neither confirm nor deny the voice in question.")
The torturous accent by "Herzog" makes every line sound absurdly hilarious, describing O'Brien as "the defiler ... with dull, tiny eyes ... the eyes of a crudely painted doll ... he scavenges in distant lands, uninvited, fueled by a bottomless hunger for recognition and the occasional selfie."
Now that's smart. And oh so stupid.
A funhouse mirror version of a travel show
O'Brien performs onstage with a fan in Norway Conaco/Max hide caption
O'Brien performs onstage with a fan in Norway
Fans of O'Brien's Conan Without Borders specials on TBS already know what his style is when he tackles a travel show — throwing himself into outrageous reactions and situations while working his quirky brand of improvised conversations with hapless bystanders.
In the Max series Conan O'Brien Must Go , that includes O'Brien offering screechy vocals onstage during a performance of a Norwegian emo/rap band. Or asking provocative questions of a couple therapist/sex expert. Or getting beat up in a "fight" with a 10-year-old boy in a bar.
It's all an excuse for O'Brien to unleash his energetic wit, taste for silly absurdity and skill at drawing laughs from sympathetic — if often befuddled — strangers. Whether you enjoy this special will depend on how you feel about O'Brien's style, which can feel a bit like the world's best class clown doing everything possible to make you crack a smile.
(Rent a family in Norway so they can say goodbye when he gets on a SeaCraft? Check. Get local artists to paint a mural of O'Brien, a soccer star and The Pope on the side of a building in Argentina? Double check.)
'Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend' Is A Joke Name For A Podcast — Sort Of
But what amazes in a larger sense is how O'Brien has turned his sensibility into a comedy brand to fuel work on many different platforms. And, at age 60, with more than 30 years as a comedy star, he's been released from the shackles of any genre to shine wherever he chooses — whether it's an episode of Hot Ones or a streaming service which sometimes looks like a collision between True Detective and 90 Day Fiancé .
Leaving late night TV as late night left him
I'm old enough that I started covering TV not long after O'Brien made his first move from the shadows of life as a comedy writer – he worked on Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons — to succeed David Letterman in 1993 as host of NBC's show Late Night (now hosted by Seth Meyers). Back then, NBC gave O'Brien years to figure out the show, honing his smartly serious comedy in a way that would inspire then-teenage fans like Seth Rogen and Bill Hader .
O'Brien left NBC after a disastrous deal where the network tried to make him host of its venerated late night program The Tonight Show and also keep its former host Jay Leno at the network. He moved to a late night show on TBS in 2010, but even then, there was a sense that his creativity was a bit hemmed in by the format.
After 28 Quirky Years, Conan O'Brien Is Leaving Late Night
By the time he left his TBS show Conan for good, it seemed O'Brien was already caught in a trend which would hobble other late night shows — as young viewers consumed his content online and ratings on cable dropped.
Now, with a podcast and digital media company worth many millions and growing status as a TV comedy legend still willing to do almost anything for a laugh, O'Brien is proving there is a successful life beyond late night.
Particularly, if you have the talent to play the fool while leaving little doubt you're also the smartest person in the room.

WHIAANHPI and SmithsonianAPA Unveil Joint Theme for 2024 Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month: ‘Bridging Histories, Shaping Our Future’
The White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders and the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center issue call for intergenerational connection, action, and reflection.
The White House and WHIAANHPI will convene over 1,000 AA and NHPI leaders on May 13 for a landmark celebration at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium.
Today, the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI) and the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center are proud to present our joint 2024 theme for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) Heritage Month: “Bridging Histories, Shaping Our Future.”
Since the late 1970s, our country has recognized the invaluable contributions of AA and NHPI communities each May. For more than a decade, the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center and WHIAANHPI have collaborated to identify a national theme for AA and NHPI Heritage Month in consultation with the White House and community partners. Previous themes such as "I Am Beyond" (2014) and "Visible Together" (2023) have been warmly embraced, both by federal agencies and community-serving organizations, and have served as catalysts for meaningful dialogue around AA and NHPI identity.
The 2024 theme is an homage to our ancestors and invites all Americans to delve into the legacies, triumphs, and challenges that have shaped AA and NHPI communities. It embodies the spirit of our collective journey – one rooted in resilience and hope – and encourages us to forge intergenerational connections to honor our past and pave a durable path forward.
The White House and WHIAANHPI will use this theme to foster discussions during our May activities, including a landmark celebration on May 13, 2024, at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC. This historic convening, uniting over 1,000 AA and NHPI leaders spanning five presidential administrations, will mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the White House Initiative and the President's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders during the Clinton Administration. Sign up to receive the livestream link here .
About Our 2024 Theme: “Bridging Histories, Shaping Our Future”
As the Nation observes Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) Heritage Month in May, we reflect on our rich heritage and storied past. From Indigenous Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities whose wisdom and knowledge helped to shape this country and continue to guide us today, to the immigrants and refugees who came to our shores in search of better opportunities, to the trailblazers who paved the way for progress across generations – our communities’ journey has been one of tragedy and triumph, adversity, and resilience.
Knowing our histories gives us power. Throughout the month, let us embrace the interconnectedness of our stories and honor the visionaries who came before us. Let us commit to spotlighting the myriad ways diverse AA and NHPI communities have enriched every facet of American life. And let us endeavor to build bridges across generations, experiences, and cultures to forge a future where all of us can thrive.
The White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI), established by President Joe Biden through Executive Order 14031, is charged with coordinating a whole-of-government agenda to advance equity, justice, and opportunity for AA and NHPI communities. Learn more at hhs.gov/whiaanhpi.
The Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center (APAC), established in 1997, strives to ensure the comprehensive representation and inclusion of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in the Smithsonian’s collections, research, exhibitions, and programs. Through education initiatives, publications, and public programs, APAC provides new avenues to document, celebrate, and share the rich and diverse history, art, and culture of AA and NHPI communities. With this card, you can earn rewards — known as Ultimate Rewards® points — in a variety of ways and redeem them strategically for travel, like transferring those points to a variety of loyalty programs, including heavy hitters such as United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Marriott and Hyatt. And it dovetails nicely with some other Chase cards that also earn Ultimate Rewards® points.
Overall, it might not be the easiest card to use — a Swiss Army knife compared with the butter knife that simpler cards are. But it’s a go-to card for travelers who delight in finding ways to reap big value from their rewards.

» MORE: Benefits of the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
How much is a point worth?
Chase Ultimate Rewards® points earned on this card are worth 1.25 cents each when redeemed for travel booked through Chase. Using points this way, or transferring them to travel partners, is key to getting the most value from the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card . Otherwise, it’s not quite as lucrative to use points for less-valuable redemption options, including cash back, gift cards and merchandise.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card offers versatility for travelers that's hard to find at a similar price point.
Solid sign-up bonus
The card features a generous sign-up bonus: Earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That's $750 when you redeem through Chase Travel℠.
Bonus rewards i n multiple categories
You earn extra points in a bunch of spending categories, which is good, but also makes it complicated:
Through March 2025: 5 points per $1 spent on Lyft.
Triple points on dining and streaming services is useful, while online grocery purchases may or may not be, depending on your lifestyle. Travel-related purchases are far more lucrative if you’re willing to book through Chase's travel portal. Even if you’re not, Chase’s definition of "travel" is fortunately broad; in addition to airfare and hotel stays, you can also earn bonus rewards on expenses like parking garage fees, bus fares and campgrounds. And these bonus rewards aren’t just available for travel and dining in the U.S., they can be earned worldwide.
Those earnings rates are, in effect, slightly higher because of the 10% anniversary bonus boost. For example, streaming services rewards effectively have a rewards rate of 3.1%. (The anniversary bonus applies to dollars spent, not points earned.)
And if you’re willing to use points to book travel through the Chase portal, your points will get a 25% boost (points are worth 1.25 cents). All told, a dollar spent at a restaurant or for a streaming service, for example, would earn a total value of 3.75 cents when used for travel through Chase.
This card’s valuable 1:1 transfer partners make it a keeper, especially if you're willing to look for good redemption opportunities. Say you spot a nice deal with one of Chase’s airline transfer partners — maybe a flight that normally costs thousands of dollars going for a mere 50,000 miles plus taxes and fees. With this card, you have the ability to transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards® points into that airline’s loyalty program and pounce on that deal.
Here are the transfer partners:
Aer Lingus (1:1 ratio).
Air Canada (1:1 ratio).
Air France-KLM (1:1 ratio).
British Airways (1:1 ratio).
Emirates (1:1 ratio).
Iberia (1:1 ratio).
JetBlue (1:1 ratio).
Singapore (1:1 ratio).
Southwest (1:1 ratio).
United (1:1 ratio).
Virgin Atlantic (1:1 ratio).
Hyatt (1:1 ratio).
InterContinental Hotels Group (1:1 ratio).
Marriott (1:1 ratio).

Complementary cards
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is an excellent companion to other cards in the Chase Ultimate Rewards® family. That’s because you can move points to this card from your other cards that earn Chase Ultimate Rewards®, potentially opening up more redemption options.
Consider the Chase Freedom Flex℠ . It earns 5% cash back on rotating quarterly categories (on up to the first $1,500 in purchases, upon activation) in addition to rewards for other spending. You could potentially move the rewards you earn on that card to the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card . From there, you could get more value out of your points by transferring points at a 1:1 ratio to other loyalty programs or redeeming them for 1.25 cents apiece when booking travel through Chase. (See our comparison article on Flex versus Sapphire Preferred .)
» MORE: What is the ‘Chase Trifecta’?
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and its more upscale sibling, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® , have had their rewards, perks and bonuses tweaked over the years as the issuer has worked to keep them at the top of travelers' wallets. See our Chase Sapphire cards news page for a rundown.
Sapphire Preferred vs. Sapphire Reserve
If you have your eye on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card , you might also be checking out the pricier Chase Sapphire Reserve® . A premium travel card, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® comes with an annual fee of $550 and several rich perks and benefits, including airline lounge access and an annual $300 travel credit. If you travel enough, going for the more expensive option could be well worth the cost.
Read NerdWallet’s full comparison of these two cards to learn more about the differences.
Here’s a look at how the cards stack up on major features:
It's complicated
All those reward categories with different rates, an anniversary bonus and a 1.25 cents per point redemption for travel through Chase? Dizzying.
Additionally, the best rewards and redemptions are tightly tied to using the Chase portal to book travel or to transferring points to a different loyalty program, which is more to figure out. And to really boost your points, many people will use the card in conjunction with other Chase cards.
In the end, making the most of the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card requires a learning curve and an ongoing juggling act that some consumers simply don’t want to deal with. If you're interested in earning travel rewards, but want something a little easier to use, the $95 -annual-fee Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card has a much simpler rewards structure.
You'll earn 5 miles per dollar on hotels and car rentals booked through Capital One Travel. Other purchases earn 2 miles per dollar. But like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card , there's multiple ways to redeem rewards with this card, including transferring them to travel partners. If you want something even more straightforward, consider a cash-back credit card .
Few premium perks
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is an excellent card for travelers in general. It even has a few travel perks, such as primary rental car insurance , trip cancellation/interruption insurance and lost luggage insurance.
But for those who love to travel in style, the more expensive Chase Sapphire Reserve® could be a better fit.
The Chase Sapphire Reserve® with an annual fee of $550 comes with an annual $300 travel credit and Priority Pass Select access, which gets you into several airport lounges for free and includes meal credits for certain airport eateries. And it comes with a credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry (or NEXUS), worth up to $100 once every four years.
To see how these cards compare to the competition, check out NerdWallet's list of best credit cards to get .
Using the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card for simple rewards — say, earning cash back — would be akin to buying a top-of-the-line multipurpose tool just to use the nail file. The card offers outstanding value, but to fully appreciate it, a traveler needs to take advantage of its versatility. If that appeals to you, this card is an excellent choice.
With no annual fee, this card gives you 1.5 miles for every $1 you spend. It comes with a new-cardmember bonus offer, and points are redeemable for statement credit against many kinds of travel expenses.

Methodology.
NerdWallet reviews credit cards with an eye toward both the quantitative and qualitative features of a card. Quantitative features are those that boil down to dollars and cents, such as fees, interest rates, rewards (including earning rates and redemption values) and the cash value of benefits and perks. Qualitative factors are those that affect how easy or difficult it is for a typical cardholder to get good value from the card. They include such things as the ease of application, simplicity of the rewards structure, the likelihood of using certain features, and whether a card is well-suited to everyday use or is best reserved for specific purchases. Our star ratings serve as a general gauge of how each card compares with others in its class, but star ratings are intended to be just one consideration when a consumer is choosing a credit card. Learn how NerdWallet rates credit cards.
Frequently asked questions
Rewards are: 5 points per $1 spent on all travel booked through Chase, 3 points per $1 spent on dining (including eligible delivery services and takeout), 3 points per $1 spent on select streaming services, 3 points per $1 spent on online grocery purchases (not including Target, Walmart and wholesale clubs), 2 points per $1 spent on travel not booked through Chase and 1 point per $1 spent on other purchases. Occasionally, the issuer may offer bonus rewards in specific categories for a limited time.
That depends on how you redeem them. If you use them to book travel through Chase — such as for airfare, hotels, rental cars or cruises — points are worth 1.25 cents each. If you redeem them for cash, they’ll be worth 1 cent apiece. You can also transfer points to about a dozen airline and hotel loyalty programs; the value you get depends on how you redeem them in those programs.
As long as your account is open, your points won’t expire. There’s no limit to the number of points you can earn.
The Chase Sapphire Reserve® has a much higher annual fee — $550 , compared with $95 for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card — but it offers richer rewards and more perks. Points are worth 1.5 cents apiece when redeemed for travel through Chase (versus 1.25 cents for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card ). Perks include an annual $300 travel credit that offsets a big slice of the annual fee. See our comparison article for more details.
If you have good to excellent credit and you’re in line with Chase’s 5/24 rule , you could be approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card . Good credit is generally defined as a FICO of 690 or higher, although issuers also take into account your income, existing debts and other information.

Woman tried to board flight at Memphis Airport with 56 pounds of marijuana: Reports
Before a 21-year-old Memphis woman could board an United Airlines flight, Memphis International Airport Police found 56 pounds of marijuana in her luggage, according to multiple reports.
The woman was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intention to manufacture, deliver or sell, Shelby County jail records show. This charge is a felony offense that "carries harsh penalties," the Law Office of Bernie McEvoy , an attorney in Nashville, Tennessee, said.
The woman is now free after posting a $5,000 bond, according to Shelby County jail records.
TSA best catches: Naruto throwing knives, weed diaper, projectile and more
Woman allowed airport police to check her luggage, had name tag on bags, according to reports
Memphis airport police caught the woman Sunday after finding her luggage "busted open" on a United Airlines bag cart, WMC-TV reported. The woman's name tag was attached to the bags, the Memphis, Tennessee-based TV station said.
After locating the woman's luggage, she gave airport police permission to search her bags, WMC-TV said. Once the drugs were found, she was subsequently arrested.
USA TODAY contacted Memphis International Airport Police on Thursday and was told the department is working to provide a police report.
How much would 56 pounds of marijuana go for on the street?
When a St. Paul, Minnesota man was arrested for possessing 56 pounds of marijuana in May 2013, now-retired Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom estimated the drugs had a street value between $171,000 and $342,000, WCCO , branded CBS Minnesota, reported.
More recently, the Butler County Sheriff's Office seized 56 pounds of marijuana from a property in El Dorado, Kansas in July 2021 and valued the drugs at $180,000, the Wichita Eagle reported.

Man dies after setting himself on fire near Trump trial courthouse in NYC
By Graham Kates , Pat Milton , Jericka Duncan
Updated on: April 20, 2024 / 8:38 PM EDT / CBS News
A man who set himself on fire outside the New York City courthouse where former President Donald Trump's hush money trial is underway has died, police said.
Witnesses said that they saw the man — identified by the New York Police Department as 37-year-old Max Azzarello — pour liquid over his head and set himself on fire at 1:39 p.m. local time on Friday.
In a briefing immediately after the incident, the NYPD said Azzarello, a Florida resident who had arrived in New York City earlier in the week, walked into Collect Pond Park, opened a book bag, and scattered papers and pamphlets on the ground before setting himself ablaze. Police described the materials as "like a conspiracy-theory type of pamphlet."
Azzarello then fell on a police barrier. Civilians and court officers used coats and extinguishers to try to put out the fire, the NYPD said, and the New York City Fire Department responded, finally extinguishing the fire.
The FDNY said that Azzarello was transported to New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center, which has a burn center, in critical condition.
The NYPD confirmed to CBS News overnight that Azzarello had died on Friday night.
Four officers who responded to the fire suffered minor injuries.
Azzarello had posted a statement on social media, officials said. Although the incident took place close to the court where Trump's trial is taking place, officials said Azzarello did not appear to be targeting any particular person or group and added that he seemed to be a conspiracy theorist.
One witness described pamphlets that Azzarello threw, apparently while making allegations about New York University.
"I heard this clattering, and it was those papers that he had flung up in the air," the witness said. "That caught our attention and — caught my attention, anyway ... then he pulled out a can and he poured it over himself. And at that point, I thought, 'Oh ... this is gonna be awful."
"It happened so fast — what do you do?" another witness said.

Meet Girthmaster, the internet’s new, uh, gifted boyfriend whose name speaks for itself
The internet got a new boyfriend, main character, f*ck buddy, and/or horror-movie monster this week.
He’s a 6’6″, 30-year-old Aussie who goes by the username “Girthmasterr”. And the moniker just about says it all.
While Mr. Girth has been creating OnlyFans content for nearly two years, it wasn’t until he recently got stopped for a viral TikTok video that his, uh, gifts reached the masses.
How about we take this to the next level? Subscribe to our newsletter for a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy. Daily * Weekly *
After being asked what he does for work, he revealed that he’s in “the top 0.1% of creators on the platform worldwide” and earns between “$40,000 and $80,000 a month.” The interview has been viewed over 104 million times.
And reader, let me tell you, he definitely has the goods to back it up.
80K a month on OF?! Damn ?? pic.twitter.com/sjPvmnlrmG — Carlos (@closalvarado) April 21, 2024
While the adorable himbo’s social media account is beyond NSFW and even his PG-friendly Instagram is blocked, he’s been blessed with a reported “eight-inch-long, seven-inch-circumferenced” member. No, but really!
Even Cardi B couldn’t help but weigh in on his mind-shattering size. Though writer Ashley Reese perhaps put it best when she tweeted, “Holy sh*t it is quite literally the size of a bottle of wine.” He also seems to be friends with Lana Del Rey ‘s ex Jack Donoghue?! But that’s beside the point.
According to Pornhub, searches for @girthmasterr “skyrocketed 1255%” after the post. So obviously, Gay Twitter X™ –– and anyone with eyeballs on the internet –– reacted as chaotically as you’d expect.

OK, so this god amongst mortals is heterosexual. Alas, some fruits are not humanly possible to take must remain forbidden.
Nevertheless, he’s made it clear that his meat is made for all to enjoy. (“Everyone is welcome 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️,” his bio reads.) That being said, he’s yet to collaborate with another male creator and told Rolling Stone –– yes, he was interviewed by the Stone ! –– that he doesn’t see it happening anytime soon.
“I only want to create things that I enjoy and that I kind of have a vision for,” he explained. “I kind of feel like [if i shot gay content], I’d be ripping [gay fans] off. It would kind of be a cash grab in a sense. And I just wouldn’t feel ethical.” (Also, who’d hide the bottom’s body after? Kidding!)

Interestingly enough, the Girthmaster(r) revealed that while the majority of his followers are male, only about 15% identify as gay. Although he thinks “there’s some flexibility there [in terms of orientation].” And we’d bet money that his recent viral fame has certainly bolstered his LGBTQ+ following.
As the heavy-shafted knight told Rolling Stone , he got his royal start on –– where else? –– Tumblr, posting a nude selfie and immediately hearing for the first time that his sword was “out of the ordinary.”
Apparently, Girthmaster worked a handful of day jobs like pizza delivery boy and furniture builder (let the fantasies begin!) before someone suggested he hop on the OnlyFans craze.
“They told me to stop giving it away for free, because people would pay for it,” he explained. “Honestly, I thought it’d be just a little bit of beer money. But it kind of snowballed.” Sometimes, when you’ve got a gift, the best thing you can do is share it with the world!

Still, it seems he’s got a good head on his shoulders, as well as down under. Having grown up poor, he’s working to get his pilot’s license and buy his single mother a home.
Plus, he has sympathy for the double standard that female sex workers deal with. “Women should be upset they get treated differently to the way I get treated,” he added. “It’s insecure men who don’t like the idea that women can be independent, and can do all these things themselves and might not need a man in their life.”
And while he’s working hard to not “make my penis my entire personality,” he doesn’t mind if you make it yours.
“My name is the Girthmaster,” he said. “I am there to be objectified in a way. It doesn’t bother me. Feel free to objectify the Girthmaster all you want. He’s there for your entertainment.” And for that, we bow down!
