While this is an entry-level inflatable boat, the Intex Excursion 4 is sturdy and can be quickly inflated and setup by a single person. You have the option of adding a small motor to the Excursion 4, which we recommend. It will be much easier to motor to your favorite fishing spots, and really makes the boat more enjoyable.

Rivers, lakes, estuaries, and dams are all ideal for this little boat. Take the Excursion 4 on downriver cruises, bird and animal spotting adventures, fishing, and picnics.

The Intex Excursion 4 boat is made of heavy duty, puncture resistant PVC vinyl. This durable vinyl is three layers thick, with two heavy gauge PVC outer layers laminated to an inner mesh layer of polyester. Not only is it strong and durable, it’s also comfortable with the inflatable I-beam floor and included back rests.

When fully inflated, the Excursion 4 is 124″ x 65″ and weighs 44 pounds. It can carry 880 pound maximum and is Coast Guard and NMMA certified. Those who are looking for something a bit more spacious should check out the larger Intex Excursion 5 .

This boat has three separate air chambers, including an auxiliary air chamber in the main hull for extra buoyancy and safety. A Boston valve on the two main hull chambers makes it quick and easy to inflate and deflate.

We found the motor mount to be sufficient as-is, and the Excursion 4 did not seem to have as much dip to it with a trolling motor installed.

Our trolling motor is a Newport Vessels 55 lb trust, which runs on a 12V deep cycle marine battery. A size 29 105Ah battery is recommended, which is heavy (about 50-60 lbs), but it has enough power/capacity to run the trolling motor for a full day on the water.

Suitability for Different Water Conditions

The Intex Excursion 4 is not seaworthy and is not recommended for cruising over choppy sea water or rivers with moderate to strong current. However, it is perfect for calm waters like lakes, streams, and ponds.

It’s ideal for 1 or 2 adult bass fishing and can easily support 2-3 young kids along with an adult. Despite its overall weight rating of 1100 lbs, this raft would not provide comfortable seating for four adults.

Customizations

The only drawback to the boat was the soft decking, which felt like walking on a waterbed. To solve this issue, I cut out a piece of 1/2″ plywood in the shape of the deck, coated it with marine paint, and carpeted the upper side with outdoor carpeting. This modification works great and provides a stable platform for movement around the boat.

Transportation and Setup

The boat is easy to transport, as it comes with a carrying bag that also holds both the hand and electric air pumps , as well as two Coast Guard approved life vests . Inflation takes only twelve minutes with the electric pump that plugs into the car’s lighter.

Once inflated, assembling the oars takes only a few minutes. After inserting the modified floor and setting up the motor mount and motor, the boat is ready for the water.

Fun and Convenience

Once in the boat, it’s just pure fun and lounging around, listening to classic rock and soaking in the rays. The boat provides a relaxing and enjoyable boating experience that is unmatched. The convenience of being able to transport and store the boat without a garage or trailer is also a huge plus.

Recommendations

It’s important to never boat drunk or otherwise impaired, always bring a life vest for each passenger, and provide for some kind of night lighting, should the unexpected occur and you end up boating after dark.

An anchor is also recommended, as inflatable boats drift easily in the wind. An anchor that is fold-up and weighs 3.5 pounds, paired with 50 feet of 3/8″ nylon rope, is a suitable choice and can be conveniently stored in the storage bag of the boat.

We love the addition of the backrests to give you some lumbar support. This can make a world of difference, especially if you’re out on the lake for hours at a time.

The reason for adding a trolling motor to your Intex Excursion 4 is so that you have a bit more control of your boat. You can easily adjust your speed and you also have the ability to navigate both saltwater and freshwater environments. Some environments can be more dynamic than others, so having a motor like the one Intex made can be helpful in quickly adjusting to either. The best characteristic of the Intex motor is that it is very quiet. If you’re trying to take a fishing trip, having a motor that is loud will drive the fish away from your boat. The Intex Excursion 4 is excellent for children who are just getting out on the water for their first time! It’s lightweight, easy to paddle, and comes complete with the grab-lines on the sides in case of any accidental falls. There is a massive difference in the price. The Intex Mariner 4 is nearly double the cost of the Intex Excursion 4, nevertheless, it is still very good value for money. We felt that if you are planning to use your inflatable boat on rougher waters and you know you are going to use it a lot, then the Intex Mariner is a brilliant choice.

Overall though, we felt the Intex Excursion was the better inflatable boat. It is a great size for all of the family to enjoy. It is well made with the same great features as the Intex Mariner, but you will save yourself a few dollars. It may not matter to some, but the seats made all the difference for us.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Excursion Notes

• This excursion is a combination of high-speed train round-trip and walking tour (with coach transportation if available) with a duration of 18 hours.
• We suggest you wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes, sun protection and/or light jacket
• Please bring your camera (your guide will tell you where photos are not allowed or if there is an additional federal fee), 
• Have enough cash (Euros) for shopping or extra food/beverages, gratuity for shore excursion guide and driver (customary is 15%), your passport and special visa which will be emailed to you, and a great sense of adventure.
• The actual order of activities may vary slightly depending on venue closures, traffic, etc.
• Do expect traffic and crowds.
• Shoulders and knees must be covered in all religious venues such as cathedrals.
• Shore Excursioneer will need the passport information from each participant, which will be forwarded to the operator to obtain your visas. We will send you a list of all the information needed. The operator will send us your visas and we will forward them to you. Your visa from the operator and your valid passport must be presented to Russian officials and are required in order to get off the ship in St. Petersburg. Also note, your passport needs to have a minimum of 6 months validity left (does not expire within 6 months of your stop in Russia) and a minimum of 2 blank pages for your Russian entry stamps.
• Note that this excursion is only available for ships staying more than one day in St. Petersburg.
• This excursion does not operate on Thursdays as the Kremlin is closed.
• Foreign language guides are available with prior notice when booking and payable directly to the operator the day of the excursion.

• This excursion involves a considerable amount of walking and is not allowed for those with mobility issues.
• Moscow Kremlin is closed on Thursdays.
• The streets of St. Petersburg and Moscow are not suitable for guests in wheelchairs or families with strollers due to uneven surfaces.
• Families with children need to consider the duration and level of activity of this excursion before booking.

• Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
• Your ship skips/misses the port.
• Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
• A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
• Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
